Im so stupidly and horrendously fixated and attracted to noah hugbox it actually sucks. Wdym he rarely makes content??? so i rewatched troy (2004) after like 7 years bc i finished the iliad and wanted to compare.

as someone who just watched the movie: it was amazing. loved it. so fun to watch

as someone who's read the source: WHAT THE FRICK THIS IS SO INACURRATE I COULD LIST THE INACCURACIES WALKSHFKSHFKASHFAKSHD IT SUCKS

things i loved:

-THE CASTING. PERFECTION. (hector, achilles, and odysseus's casting were my favorites. also paris sucks but why is he hot)

-THE EMOTIONAL SCENES (especially hector, andromache, and astyanax scenes) HAD ME BAWLING

things i hated:

-menelaus is NOT THAT MEAN. he's a cinnamon roll 😭

ill get back on it eventually, but my current thoughts on it are neutral, i think. watched the movie in its release, then rewatched it once i had rekindled my love for the franchise.

its good, obviously. but then i went to mym... ive previously educated myself with its reviews (quantum hippologist), so i knew going in that it wasn't gonna hold up the quality although ig that's practically a given for any 3d show

still the first fucking episode took me a lot longer than its runtime for me to finish, i had to pause every now and again to process what i was seeing.

there were a few good moments but the whole is grating that it upsets me HAHSGA I JUST CANT the pacing is nonexistent wdym a couple of days has passed since zipp's little detective work thats crazy i never would of guessed that. the opening is kind of misleading cause it wasn't terrible!

anyway i can't keep yapping otherwise this would be unreasonably long (i dont want that), and its 11pm but like i said, neutral

Okay, now that I'm done with the sarcasm...

Aside from the fact that it was something Jimin wanted to do, why did the company suddenly think of it and agreed to it now. (Unless we eventually find out other details about why and how, but I don't know if I'm even going to be here when that happens, so).

Jungkook and Jimin is a pairing that has always worked in many ways, like with the couple of dance units they've had in BTS stages. Or the couple of songs they've sung together, etc.

Apart from that, yes they are the most popular (read popular as in people OUTSIDE OF THE FANDOM have seen them/interacted with their content or music at some point/etc), so all in all I agree that their individual popularity could be a reason.

That's also related to the reach the content has. I've never been one of those people that cry about jikook not being loved; I never cared about that for several reasons that are not relevant right now. One of the reasons that's relevant tho, is that taekook might get the most likes or retweets on their content... but nobody causes conversation the way Jimin does. Whether it's good or bad, Jungkook or Taehyung each on their own, or together, they don't cause conversation. I'm not gloating or anything about Jimin getting hate because I hate it, and I hate when people are like "oh jimin they're hating on you you'll always be famous", but it's a fact that whenever Jimin is involved in something, people will talk about it. I mean, there's a reason his name can't trend in twitter anymore because of the volume of tweets in which he's mentioned every day.

Another thing, probably unpopular, many probably won't get it, and I think that people just don't realize it's happening: Jimin makes Jungkook look good. He makes Jungkook looked loved and worthy of being loved.

Not too long ago I rewatched the hunger games and in the first movie something happens with Katniss and Peeta, I think it was him saying he was in love with her or something. And Haymitch says it was good that Peeta had said that because he'd made Katniss looked desirable. Now, she was perceived as the object of affection of someone.

It's something I've talked about before, how the narrative about Jungkook and the way people perceived him changed when his ships got bigger attention.

This happens to a large scale with all of BTS members, btw. We're just talking specifically about two right now, but the "X member loves Y member, how could you hate them?!" is probably the biggest example of that.

So, there's that too. Jimin's way of treating Jungkook has A LOT of weight on what people think of Jungkook. It might even be a reason of why some pjms can't even stick to one side and are more or less constantly changing their feelings about him.

That's also why I think that if it was solely and exclusively the company calling Jimin up to do this, it was tailored to happen around Jungkook's debut and not before. Because it is good for Jungkook's image.

Finally, Jimin being Jimin. I think many people do a big disservice to Jimin when they talk about why and don't realize how amazing Jimin's personality is. Jikookers especially overlook how awesome, kind, sweet and great he is. They collectively ignore how every single person who's ever met Jimin has made a point to talk about how sweet and kind he is. To most jikookers It's all about how he is with Jungkook when a large part of that is not even about Jungkook, but just how Jimin was raised and how he treats everyone he loves.

Jungkook gets to be a lovely maknae bla bla bla. To jikookers, Jimin's selflessness and beautiful soul only gets talked about in relation to Jungkook.

So another factor of the whole thing is that Jimin's got a GREAT personality. Jin, Hoseok, Jimin, they've always been the one lighting up the mood and making people laugh and taking care of everyone. They're the life of the party, literally. And the company must realize this, too. They're not stupid. They know what works for entertainment and what doesn't. Didn't Jungkook say in that preview that as soon as Jimin arrived it was chaos? Jimin is genuinely so much fun.

It works because Jimin is who he is. It's not even about Taehyung and Jungkook, but it wouldn't work with Yoongi and Jungkook, either. It would be boring simply because they're not Jimin. You can watch any live with Jimin + other member and it's almost always interesting and funny because Jimin makes up for a lot of the mood between two people.

Poor Sabo will get real answers one day. Hopefully. He was so damn much fun to write I just love him. Him and Ed are the two smartest people you know who also happen to be the most unstable and likely to cause an international incident by being a lil silly and goofy.

That plan... oh that plan. Writing that plan was fun and I got very carried away. I was terribly proud of myself for remembering half the shit in there before I had to pull up the wiki, and the Enies Lobby bit will be my smartest move until the next time I do something remotely smart.

Baby I'm going to hold your hand as I say this because I am being so for real, at this point if you are still having this dream every night you need to genuinely consider seeking professional help. That's not normal or healthy. Talk to a therapist or guidance councilor or something.

I hope to god you mean before the movie started or when it was done because if you had your phone out while that movie was playing I will be very disappointed. I wanted to go see it this week with my mom but it didn't end up happening ✊😔 I did rewatch both Top Gun movies though. Love those.

TATMR Rewatch

Saw this post appear on my dash again and felt like rewatching the movie again. Thoughts while rewatching a twenty-four year old film about magic talking trains included below.

Starting off and- hey it's Diesel 10! You remember Diesel 10, right? What a "blast from the past," right? Right?

I miss the hammy, over-the-top New Jersey accent they gave Diesel in this movie. The slimy, manipulative voice they gave him later on is fine, but c'mon, the guy's got a giant claw coming out of his back. There's nothing subtle about him. Give us our big dumb tantruming baby back!

Interesting to see Gordon shake w/ fear after seeing Diesel, considering how much flak people gave the last couple seasons of the show over the engines 'gesturing' w/ their bodies (same w/ Thomas sneezing later on).

The two ends of the universe: Anytown, USA and a remote island off the coast of England (I know its implied that Sodor is part of a separate magical dimension in this movie, hush).

That said, filming in the rustic British countryside really doesn't scream America:

Also what's that line about Shining Time being separated from Sodor by "oceans of time"? Dym like time zones (crossing the Atlantic) or time travel? The show is canonically set in the 50s-70s, afterall.

It's a shame that they didn't use the original Shining Time theme for the introductory shot. Not sure if it'd fit, but it's still a shame. Include it during the credits at least.

Diesel 10 is going to dominate you... sorry.

I know they recut this movie after audience testing, but it is odd having the mystery of the lost engine w/ Burnett's backstory revealed to the audience right at the beginning of the movie, only for it to continue being treated as a mystery by the rest of the cast until the climax.

That said, they still did an admirable job w/ it, considering they cut out one of the main antagonists. There's a few repeated story beats (Burnett and Diesel giving Lady's backstory back to back) and lines that don't quite work (Burnett telling Diesel, the magic talking train, he'll fail bc he "doesn't believe in magic"), but nothing too distracting.

Jumping from that slow, melancholic scene w/ Burnett to Diesel w/ his fucking goofy theme playing is fantastic.

Mr. C Humming the OG theme tune is a really cute touch.

"Stacy, where did you find this painting?" Mr. C, I'm pretty sure that's a drawing.

I can't get over Baldwin chewing the scenery in this movie, he's just constantly goofing off in front of the camera, picking up and talking to random props. I know all of it is prob in the script, it is a kid's film after all, but its just so silly that I love it.

I like the implication that Burnett was just a kid that Mr. C talked to and chose to entrust w/ Lady's secret, just like all the kids he'd (well, another Mr. Conductor), interact w/ on Shining Time.

The scene w/ the angry painting of Topham calming down each time they cut back to it after Mr. C puts back the hat was and still is the best one in the movie imo.

Lady Hatt's portrait is still just one of the wooden figures lmao.

I have a deep-seated memory of constantly repeating the scene of Mr. C reflexively batting the ball he was just roleplaying w/ out of his hand and scolding it.

Nvm the scene of Diesel busting through the shed wall still goes hard as hell, esp. when Mr. C's magic starts failing (same for all of Diesel's action scenes tbh).

Jesus, why did they put this scene into the movie?

Hearing Stacy say that and start sobbing is genuinely upsetting.

I didn't even notice the railway (sorry, railroad) got replaced w/ a road in this scene.

It's interesting to think about how in the workprint, an older Lily was the narrator, meanwhile Mr. C would still out here constantly breaking the fourth wall by talking straight to the audience.

Very interesting low self-esteem James moment b/w him and Mr. C. It's a shame that isn't explored more in the actual series. James is usually portrayed as vain, not insecure.

Mr. C, you're on a railway. Why are you hiking in the woods to get to a windmill?

Bertie saying "vroom vroom vroom" after every one of his lines is the best decision they ever made.

James: "Mr. C's not at the Windmill. I looked!" Point proven.

Even though they lean into the sick Henry angle, it's nice to see he still has that edge to his personality, at least for two out of three scenes.

Why does Junior have a Scottish accent? Is he from Ringo's side of the family?

Mr. C is in charge of this entire railway rn and he's just sleeping outside on the fucking ground having an existential crisis.

Hey Lily can play the harmonica! I need to break out mine again and harass people w/ my inability to play.

There he is! P.T. Boomer! I remember reading SiF all the time going over all the scenes left in after they axed that entire plotline like that freeze-frame of Stacy w/ the picture of Burnett, Boomer, and Tasha.

Lady's ghost whistling still works as is, but just imagine hearing it thru out the film w/o that knowledge. Much more haunting.

They did Toby so much justice in this film. Consistently a wise voice of reason that gets his own spotlight moment vs Diesel.

I... I forgot this movie included a version of "Really Useful Engine" in the middle of it.

I know the film was criticized for how much focus it put on its all new human cast, but I actually really enjoy these scenes. Maybe bc they're part of the quintessential Magic Railroad experience.

That said, w/o the inclusion of Boomer, the human plot lacks tension or stakes for much of the runtime. The Sodor plot (thru the character of Mr. C) is doing all of the tension-building for the whole movie. As it stands, there's little reason for an audience to actually get invested in that part of the story as is outside of just liking the characters.

Man, this film's special effects have not aged well.

Oh yeah, Annie and Clarabel only get a single line in the entire movie. :/

Oh Alec finally gets to start acting serious towards the end of the film. It really helps the tension building.

Mr. C: "No he is not a dog. Let's just say he's a puppy in need of a good trainer," while Junior is kneeling in front of him w/ his tongue out panting. I get that it's meant to be a short little gag but wtf is this movie?

It's my favorite character! Tumbleweed!!!

OMG TUMBLEWEED APPEARS IN A SECOND SCENE! I FORGOT ABOUT THAT!

CGI Thomas just out here chilling on top of a cliff in the real world.

Thomas falls down and almost dies and Lily doesn't notice at all.

The smelter's yard continues to be the best set in this entire series. With the lighting turning the steam red it looks genuinely hellish.

Burnett: "Well Lady, this is your shining time too." Hey they said it!

The viaduct collapse scene is so good! It feels so real and weighty. Props to the props department.

Burnett: "Now we'll always remember our shining time together." 🌈🌈🌈

God, this movie is so cute! Really fun watching it again in full some all these years later.

Don't worry about Halit not seeing Casablanca yet. Esra is going to show him the movie and he's going to flex about how he ended up getting a happy ending unlike Humphrey Bogart. 😎

Also, under no circumstances, do not imagine Esra forcing him to watch Robin William's entire filmography and Halit has the biggest smile the whole time because Esra's happy 🥰🥰🥰

Isn't it interesting that Halit doesn't like Meliha because she always pokes her nose into places she shouldn't but he loves Esra for the EXACT same reason?!

I've also been wondering how their kids are going to deal with the fact that their Dad shot their asshole grandfather. And he wasn't particularly fond of their grandmother but he did carry her corpse out of that train compartment. But she's also not dead right now. And Ahmet thought he had dad problems!

It's also been bugging me since the first time I saw S02E01, but who on earth told Halit that fake Peride's actual name was Esra? The only person in 1919 who knew her name was Ahmet and he didn't tell anyone. So who told Halit? I have to know!

IT’S DRIVING ME NUTS! i think we might have a plot hole with that, tbh. because before i started rewatching season 2, i thought. okay, maybe when halit is stealing from dimitri he made dimitri tell him (now i’m not even sure if dimitri even knew esra’s name, but i believe he did) but it can’t be that!!!! because he knows esra’s name in 2022 and he hadn’t met dimitri yet. then, i was thinking the only other person that knows the name esra is leyla through the tale esra told her. but how on earth would halit and leyla speak when she’s just a little kid?

i just wish they’d shown us how halit knows. because when they’re at his place in s2e2 he says ‘esra’ in such a… i now know your real name. OKAY BUT HOW!!! please someone dm emre sahin and ask him because i’m going bonkers with this
