the wattpad author is very special because they create stories with heartfelt intent, have an excellent line-by-line comment system, and occasionally a wattpad reader can disappear with complete radio silence for two years before coming back as a writer, just like how a caterpillar turns into another type of caterpillar. While the ao3 authors have comparative immortality and the ability to somehow update a fanfiction after rising from the dead, the wattpad author merely grubs on, working, locked in the misty hedge maze of wattpad in which someone's blasted holes through the bushes for greater ease of travel, someone has made a home beneath a tiny little bush that only hides their head, and they write little messages on their message boards that have a 2000 character limit. sometimes the last message on the board is from 2017 and they haven't updated a fic since 2018 but wattpad readers are resilient and still hope to this day. the search function is also complete and utter shit and you have better luck using quotation marks, the character names, and the word wattpad via google search. but the community is great. wattpad possesses a broken charm. sometimes you aren't there for the clout or the votes or the algorithm, which is also broken. it's not the point. it's about having a fun time and ignoring all the white girl x rich hot handsome man one night stand original fiction stories that wattpad keeps recommending you. wattpad is like hiding within a rough stick fort while occasionally putting fic there. or just being a really awesome reader. you can be anything on wattpad.

Hello! I've been a fan of your works for almost a year now since I happened to come across your Wattpad account.
Can you do a Yandere Kenma x Reader?
Wherein Kenma pretends to be sick or have a poor health just so reader will prioritize him over others? They're childhood friends and no matter how nice Reader is to others, no one seem to last by her side for long. She doesn't have any other choice but to stick with Kenma. Who knows the truth he is hiding?
A Wattpadian! This concept is so mysterious, I love it!
Title: Drift
Pairings: Kozume Kenma x Reader
WARNINGS: Yandere themes
Summary: You keep trying to branch out, but everyone seems to drift away. All you have left is your sickly friend.
drift
/verb/
move passively, aimlessly, or involuntarily into a certain situation or condition:
Some days, it felt like you were lost at sea. Like you were on a raft floating on the ocean, no land in sight. Sometimes it soothed you to think of the gentle waves and endless water. Other times, you felt the crushing loneliness and helplessness as though you were really there.
Right now, you felt the latter.
“Sorry, (Y/n), I just don’t have time to hang out with you anymore.” Your friend said before they practically ran away from you.
At least this friend had the decency to give you an excuse. The others had all ghosted you- not returning your texts or calls. Either avoiding you in real life or disappearing off the map entirely.
What was weirder, they always acted almost afraid of you.
You weren’t a scary person, if anything you were too nice for your own good. You were a doormat, used to people taking advantage of your kindness. Yet your friends and acquaintances would suddenly avoid you like you had caught the plague.
Where had they all gone? And why?
As if on cue, your phone began to ring. You picked it up and answered the call, holding the cell phone close to your ear to hear whoever was on the other end. The voice belonged to the exact person you suspected it did.
“(Y/n),” your friend, Kenma, sighed into the phone, “I’m not doing well today. You’ll visit me after your classes, won’t you?”
“Of course, Kenma!” You replied immediately, “I’ll be there as soon as possible. I hope you feel better.”
“Thank you,” he said softly, a little cough ringing out through the phone’s speakers before he hung up.
You stifled a sigh as you placed your phone in your pocket. Kenma was your only remaining friend now, the only person that had stayed by your side all this time, but he was very needy. It didn’t help that he’d gotten badly sick with something that just wouldn’t go away.
You were the type to dote on the ill, but it was sometimes exhausting caring for Kenma. His symptoms never went away, no matter what you did. He insisted that only you could help him, that only you could make him feel better, but it felt like too big of a responsibility for you.
Still, it was the least you could do when he didn’t leave you behind like everyone else, right?
When it was nothing but you and the ocean, sharing a raft could be more tiring than being alone on one.
—-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You pushed Kenma’s blond hair up so you could mop his forehead with a wet washcloth. The cool cloth wiped the sweat from his brow and cooled his warm face. His cheeks were flushed slightly, but that symptom only started when you started attending to him.
“Have you taken your temperature yet?” You asked.
Kenma picked up a thermometer from the nightstand and showed it to you. A fever, like always, even though he never felt feverish to the touch. You frowned pityingly down at him.
“I’ll change your sheets out, okay? Then we can watch something together.”
Kenma gave you a smile and allowed you to remove the blankets from his bed, replacing them with clean sheets and tucking him into them. To anyone else, this smile looked like a pained one, one to show that he was thankful even though he was so sick.
If only Kenma was actually sick.
The truth was, he had been sick, for a little while. The way you had cared for him while he was sick awakened something in him. Your soft little hands touching his heated skin? Your kind face smiling down at him with pity and care?
How could you expect him to let go of that?
And dropping out of college had its advantages. That way, he had plenty of time to get ahold of your “friends” without you knowing.
He’d never let you find out that he was faking his illness. Nor that he was the one scaring away everyone you knew.
Right now, all you had was him and him alone.
He just had to keep it that way.

1 You know, I completely respect that people are jumping ships from websites that are doing dumb shit. Folks from twitter and tiktok going to tumblr, and Wattpadians to AO3. BUT! If those folks can't even try to learn the basic fucking rules of the new sites they are joining, I wish they'd just fuck off and never come back. Wattpad folks being currently the worst doing "place holder" fics, and fucking around with updates/non-updates because they try to "cheese the algorithm" AO3 doesn't have a
fucking algorithm. Don't get me started on bullshit tagging, I tag tags on occasion that are supposed to be memorable so that people can easily find or block my specific fic if they want to. But I don't do the "sexytime with Wangxian" that new users are doing, where they just use every fucking tag even when they don't or barely apply. It gets even worse with their refusal to use age-tagging, and ship tagging. "UwU I use both & and / bc Idc abt the difference." I hope you get kidneystones.
The fuck is a 'placeholder fic'? The worst I've seen an uptick of is people posting 'fics' that are really just 'Does anyone remember a fic that had *insert ship*, *insert tropes*, and *insert kink*? Please and thank you~'
But, yes, tag-spamming is obnoxious. Just because you tag your, I don't know, rarepair Squid Game/Harry Potter crossover fic with every tag under the sun (that you're able to, at least; I think the mod team made it so that we don't get cases as bad as "Sexytime with Wangxian" anymore) doesn't mean that people will want to read it!
In fact, it'll just make people go on autopilot and scroll past your fic faster.
And the people constantly trying to turn other sites into an algorithm game, my God. If you want to chase an algorithm, stick to TikTok and Twitter! Tumblr and AO3 are their own beasts that don't run that way... Why is this so hard to get?

If you need a book/series to review that won’t totally melt your brain, have you heard of The Foxhole Court/All for the Game? It’s YA from 2013 about a college sports team made up of troubled youth. It kinda feels like a sports anime at times and has some absolutely wild parts, but I read it recently and it was the most fun I’ve had with a book series in a long time. The characters are really the core of it and as much as it made me laugh at certain dramatics or doubt some of the more improbable scenarios I also totally adored everyone I spent time with on the page. It has a lot of trigger warnings (that are easy to look up), despite being about a college sports team. (This doesn’t play a big role at all, but it was also my first time reading from the pov of a demisexual character as an asexual person, and it really felt amazing for me to get that)
Oh I know it from the time it was first out and hugely popular. I cannot imagine willingly reading a sports story, but thanks for the recommendation. I've only ever seen it recc'd as "very gay sports books all the tumblr girlies adore", though I did recently hear it... actually is very buckwild in plot developments and there's huge... like mafia plotlines....? and heavy tw stuff........?? It sounds extremely wattpadian when put like that. But it is hugely popular and usually well regarded, I just don't think it's at all for me.

A Crack Ship 🥴
M'Baku x Ross x Namor
Disclaimer: Don't go taking this idea to heart. I don't want any chaos. 💀 I ship people based off of potential chemistry and existing chemistry. So keep it cute and don't be rude. I know how some people like to tussle. 👀
Tumblr media
Y'all. Back in my Wattpadian days, I was notorious for thinking up crazy ass ships. Like, I managed to write Sirius x Voldemort. And it worked.
Anyways. 🤣 I keep having the most bizarre ideas whenever I write Ross in my The Sun and The Sky AU.
Like he's this small, intelligent man who has somehow managed to befriend Aj K'uk'ulkan and King M'Baku, and they're all to the point that they make bets and mock/joke with each other. Although sometimes those two beefy kings enjoy scaring him when he gets too relaxed.
Is this canon in my series? No. But I cannot sleep until I share this chaos.
Y'all probably got the paramedics on speed dial.
Tumblr media
"Hello? Yes. Our good sis needs sleep and to be treated for dehydration because she's seeing things." 🤣
But hear me out.
Y'all don't ever think about how Ross must feel sitting between those two beefy men? 😮‍💨 Y'all don't think they wouldn't slut him out for the one time, just to say they conquered a colonizer? And maybe it never gets voiced to others. It just stays between them. And maybe they never say it to him, but Ross knows. It was a good time, and he's not going to let that one time thing prevent him from doing his best at advising the council.
It's just a fling.
For fun.
And they all move on.
Y'all looking at me, still unconvinced by my crazy ass idea:
Tumblr media
And then on the other hand, what if it actually holds weight. Like what if they all enjoyed it, but don't wish to go screaming it from the rooftops. It's just something between them, and everyone knows not to be rude to Ross because he's got two kings towering over him at all times.
🥴 My tired brain is spiraling at this, because I can imagine them gifting him scented oils and salves and nice clothes so that he's always looking and smelling good.
M'Baku is always escorting him around because Ross keeps getting lost. And while he's busy, K'uk'ulkan keeps an eye on him.
He's just well taken care for and he's their emotional support after long meetings and the daily tires of ruling.
Yes? No?
Imma go to sleep. 🤣
p.s.
This idea was spurred while writing, but I can't help but cackle after seeing how much M'Baku used to antagonize Ross in the first movie. It would definitely be a very drunk one-time thing if it ever happened.
ESPECIALLY with Namor. That man respects Ross, but I think 500 years of hating the surface world and colonizers would definitely keep things platonic.
I couldn't imagine how Ross would even get in that situation sober. They'd all be drunkenly discussing dick sizes and fuck around and find out. 💀
Okay. Now I'm actually going to sleep.

I know that we all admire and celebrate ao3 authors who manage to recover from 6 month comas, got thrown into jail and came out, got severe food poisoning, got married, and came back from the dead, but I'm putting my own wattpadian take on this. It has been almost six months and I have almost not touched my fanfiction for an entire month, not because I died or anything, but because I had a little homework to do and really didn't feel like doing any writing. To keep everyone on the positive side, expect a fanfiction before 2030 CE.

you may be thinking to yourself, "rilla this is entirely uncharacteristic of your tastes" and you would be absolutely right. first and foremost, this was an experiment cuz i wanted to see how Popular Published historical romance compared to um a wattpad book. so let's break it down shall we?
claim:  this was no better than a wattpad historical romance.
evidence:
i canNOT take this seriously. this was hilarious in ways ms. julia quinn never intended. i literally laughed out loud at parts because they were so ludicrous/ridiculous/what have you. there were times when i thought, "there is no way any sane person would be doing [this] when [that] is happening" and then they DID! comedy at its finest.
there were no details to place this story in 1813. this could've taken place in any era with moderately archaic social practices. with the liberties ms. julia quinn took (e.g. calling someone by their first name on the day you met them - emma woodhouse throws a fit about mrs. elton calling MR. knightly just "knightly" because not even SHE does that), i would've placed the story way later in the century.
let's just say I've read wattpad books with more historical accuracy than this. there were certain scenes (usually paragraphs before i skipped a whole bunch...) where i question whether miss daphne bridgerton was wearing a stays. or simon basset was wearing a coat and waistcoat and a cravat etc. at least she was consistent on the glove front.
julia quinn has a fascination with the word "acerbic" which I've never seen used before. it was used six times in the first 40%. SIX!
--almost the same number of times ms. julia quinn mentions the bridgerton boys' height and hair color!
one thing the netflix show did better is the whole whistledown element. she was a wasted element here. she could've been absent from the plot and i wouldn't've missed her.
ok the elephant in the room: the sex scenes. i did a LOT of skipping there at the end, but luckily I'm a wattpad veteran and have years of skipping experience. lemme let you in on a little secret though....... most of the historical romance on wattpad fades to black, if that. the authoresses on the Orange Site are more tasteful than anything beyond pg-13 ty very much.
content was boring. I've read some wattpadian historical romance that touched on difficult topics - including the Having Of Children - and handled it much better than whatever this was.
which leads me to my next point: they are an awful couple. when they aren't lusting after each other, they are just horrible to each other. there is a rape scene in here that no one ever addresses??? What? nO??
if this WAS a wattpad book, I'd probably rate is 3 stars, but as this is an edited, published, 456 physical pages...
conclusion: go read a wattpad historical romance instead of this hot garbage because 1) they're free and 2) don't take 3 months for the loan to come in from the library.
now, a sane person would look at this two-star review and say, "i'm discontinuing this series!" but in light of this fitting right in on the Orange Site, i will be giving it the Orange Site treatment: the first book in any historical fiction series is always the worst - worst written, worst plot, worst historical details, etc. - but by the third book, it's often something worth reading. similarly, i have been told that this series improves with the books. i will, therefore, give the bridgertons the same three chances before i toss it for good.
