Hello everyone!

One of my childhood best friends, and author of the WebToon Waterstrider, is currently fighting a really hard battle for her life. Last Thursday she had a brain aneurysm rupture and had to go through two different brain surgeries. Her family is currently trying to raise money for her time in the hospital as well as the procedures she is still undergoing. If you could, please donate to her gofundme, and if you cannot donate please share this information. I would really appreciate it and so would her family.

I am also planning on taking drawing/writing commissions in the near future to raise money for her as well, so keep an eye out for that information. I will probably post that info here and on my @primary-visions account as well.

are there insects that live in the sea or at least on its surface? as in not insect-equivalent arthropods like crustaceans and stuff but as in legit insects of the six legged variety

if you count mangroves and brackish environments, as well as seashores, there’s quite a few insects that live there. but there are very few that live on or in the ocean!

the most successful are the sea skaters (Halobates) and even only a few of these live on the open ocean, most being coastal. they are hemipterans in the same family as waterstriders, but smaller and differently shaped than their freshwater relatives. they hunt plankton and scavenge, laying eggs on floating debris.

another really bizarre one is a genus of flightless fly, Pontomyia. males have elongated appendages and swim by rowing their shrunken wings, while females are legless and larviform. they’re still fairly tied to shore I think but their larvae have been found living on sea turtle shells, hinting at their ability to spread across oceans this way!

Summer is wading through creeks, dense woods where the light glows green through the leaves, lemon balm, crawfish and waterstriders, the sweet scent of butterfly bush, the sound of crickets in the evening, and soft, velvety, dark nights filled with firefly darkness.

I wasn’t originally going to do a Spiderverse for Bruce (I already have some many verses for him already)—

But I got some requests for the idea, and I found that there’s actually an AQUATIC SPIDER in AUSTRALIA that has colonized the Great Barrier Reef!

How cool and fitting is THAT!?

Members of the genus Desis can stay underwater for hours at a time. I based Bruce’s new palette on Desis marina!

So… meet Waterstrider aka Bruce!

Admittedly, Bruce is a faster underwater than swinging— which he’s admittedly still getting used to.

OCkiss24 day one: almost

The sun lazily drifted through the green canopy of the garden. The insects hummed and somewhere a frog called. White flowers were scattered amongst the leaves. Felix followed Anipe across the shady pavilion, marveling at the lush plant life despite the oppressive Egyptian heat. 

“This is my little slice of paradise,” Anipe said, gesturing around her. “When the court and Pharaoh responsibilities get too much, I hide out here.”

Felix knelt down next to a clear pond and looked at his reflection. His curly blond hair and scuffed armor rippled in the gentle wake of a waterstrider. And next to him stood Anipe, her shimmering dress and long braids gently swaying in the wind. 

“It’s beautiful,” he murmured. 

“Thank you.” Anipe suddenly realized how intimate it felt, showing him her personal garden, a place only she was allowed to go, and her cheeks flushed as she turned away. 

The conversation came to an awkward pause, neither of them sure how to continue this careful dance. 

Felix stood, dusting his knees off, and attempted a causal tone. “What kind of flower is that? They smell really good.”

“Oh, that’s a lotus. They’re pretty right?”

Anipe grinned and Felix felt his heart jump into his throat. He hadn’t noticed the little gap between her teeth before. 

“Here.” Before he knew what was happening, Anipe picked one and tucked it behind his ear, nestling it in his curls. She suddenly seemed to realize what she was doing and froze, fingers still brushing the shell of his ear. She cleared her throat and looked down. “Lotuses remind us that everything grows and changes. At night they close but once the sun returns, they’re full of life again. They are created and reborn just like the gods are. Like people are.”

“Yeah,” Felix breathed. 

Anipe glanced back up at him. Felix heard the blood rushing through his ears and before he could stop himself, he slowly leaned forward. It felt like he was being drawn towards her like the sun was drawn towards the horizon. Breathtaking and inevitable. Her eyes fluttered closed as she turned her head. Felix felt her breath dancing across his cheek. 

“Opto…” she whispered. 

“Yes?”

She opened her mouth to say something but stopped herself. The air between them was charged with the anticipation of her unsaid words. Slowly, she put her hands on his shoulders then slid them down to his chest, gently pushing him away. “We should get back. Every moment we waste is a moment my people suffer.”

She stepped around him and briskly started back towards the palace. Felix frowned at the absence of her warmth but nodded, gripping the hilt of his sword. 

“Yes, your majesty.”

Waterstrider's playin' some tunes, maybe they're a bit melancolic, but he's still enjoing himself and that's what really matters :3

Fun fact: he's my only (semi)main character who canonically skilled in music! He was taught to sing and play the guitar by his stepfather Katran, who grew up in a seaside seawing village and subsequently lived for a long time in the Possibility, where he met a bunch of musically gifted dragons - thus eventually becoming interested in music himself.

At the beginning of day, rubythroat and trill of a tree frog. Cicadas blade songs of immortality as on an ancient Chinese scroll, and sun through fog burns a promise of warmth. Steps on a path are straight as we angle into light, hearing leaf-whisper of verses to be hymned.

When darkness swallows light, a bat rises lofting his delicate, webbed prison. Waterstriders skim, and a rising bass fins circles on the surface of a lake. Wrapped in the blanket of evening, we watch the circles, listen as they lap to infinity. Stay. Keep watch with us.
