A good friend got me a fancy new quill and ink set, so I'm testing it out!!
the ink really doesn't like watercolor (which was expected but I'm a stubborn fool) but I made it work :)
#the quill has better line weight control so I don't have to keep switching pen sizes#but my fine liners are actually waterproof so I'll keep using those for watercolor projects#the quill is definitely more fun though!#id in alt text#quillnart#dr stone#dcst#saionji ukyo#ukyo saionji

maybe wrangling this new pen for pages and pages is what finally gets me to finish this sketchbook
#art#ink#sketch#i got a pen with a supposed flex nib and it's nothing like a flexy dip pen nib#i think ive got it working smoothly now. im accepting the lack of line variation haha#i hope it will work okay with the waterproof black ink ive got at home (platinum carbon black) but we will See#ive almost used up the entire ink sample i got with this gjslbfkd#anyway ive had this sketchbook since 2018 which is bonkers#up to that point ive filled up probably 30-40 sketchbooks total#but this one i got as a gift and it's like. big hardcover chonky boy#really good quality!!!!!!#and i think i started using it and then filled out a different sketchbook before coming back to it#and it's also around that time when i was done with university and didn't have much Sketch Time as before which is sad#combined with the fact that it's big and heavy and i do not bring it everywhere#it's slow going!!!!! there's so much doodles in it but ive still got like a quarter left of it??? maybe a fifth#but now i have like eight pages of fountain pen wrangling hahaha#i should add that any Thin Lines are not because this pen flexing but me drawing with the nib upside down#for extra fine lines u_u

ur art is crunchy /pos !!! how do you have the confidence to use stuff that isnt pencil and cant rlly be erased if mistakes are made?
make more mistakes
ACTUAL ANSWER BELOW because it got too long. oops lol
anyway. i wrote “DO IT ON PURPOSE” because when it comes to doing a whole drawing with ONLY a pen- you gotta force your brain get creative- at least practice. in other words- work with what you have. it’s basically like solving a problem every few seconds-
because sometimes my hand eye coordination glitches for a split second. or maybe my hand shook or maybe the line is actually shit looking. but instead of scrapping the thing entirely i gotta to try and make it work. ok so if my line looks like crap here maybe i can make it a Part of the drawing by making everything look messier. OR maybe i can even just. hide it!! by coloring a thicker line along it too!!
you can actually HIDE a LOT of mistakes with a pen without erasing anything. and sometimes the mistakes are part of the art- like when i see the most beautiful art online and i see an uncolored pixel. what matters is your final output not the things you cant change now or mean nothing in the big picture
honestly going from sketch to lines and rendering with a pen is about weight control (like with a pencil- sketching yk) and not beating yourself up. in order to gain the “confidence” you gotta absolutely ANNIHILATE the need for 200% perfection. because theres beauty in a mess.
anyway so. when you get the basic stuff down like “in order to to make less mistakes with pen stuff- make sure youre used to what youre drawing already!!!” or “draw/doodle stupid shit with your pen and make it (pen) a PART of you and not some scary beast (pen)
i think it all stems down to forgiving yourself and just having fun. having fun is always my motto. if you ever go “oh no i made a mistake!!!” imagine me yelling “WHO CAAARRESSS!!!!!!!! (#love #positive)” in your EAR
#deltarune#susie deltarune#myself#ask#susart#GAHH SORRY ITS SO LONG OR SOMETHING#we have chronic ‘if you ask any of us a question ill literally take 5 paragraphs to answer it bc idk detail and context or shit’#ok bye how this helps????#mintyblitz#i would include more of our pen stuff but idk whats worth showing lol#bc we sketch with pens a lot. actually fucking hate sketching with pencils sometimes because ughh#when youre studying fine arts and have 500 black drawings ???? um. yeah. no. i dont want to touch a pencil everr AGAIN!!!!#GOD GRAPHITE EVERYWHERE!!! on my shirt on my FACE!!!#of course we still do painting and drawings with pencils and then line them after#but if im gonna doodle?? yeah. pen#also not to be a pen apologist but when a sketchbook ages the pencils fade#but pens are fucking awesome because water and air wont let it fade away#we actually use waterproof BALLPOINT pens (our fountain pen oviously is not waterproof)#(Not aponsored but buy panda oens theyre so cheap and you can paint watercolor on them girls)#anyway so the worst our penned sketches get is like. a lottle bleeding but thats cool ask in a sketchbook#pencils?? gone. blank canvas.#pencils are great but i need people to understand how convenient oen is#also pen for filling in form?? but can be used to draw? versatile. she can do anything

Searching for a fully padded collar and every time I find something decent the smallest size starts at 13 inches.
*cries in 'my dog has a tiny neck'*😭😭😭
13 inches is probably a good maximum length. But the boy has an 11 inch neck.
#they don't make functional and comfortable small dog collars??#You can pick ONE of those options maybe#But not both#EzyDOG seemed perfect but the smallest size is too big for Arthur#Same with Black Rhino#Same with a few other major brands#Booooo#I might try to find some neoprene and make one myself#I've done fleece lined collars but tbh neoprene is better because less warm and waterproof

I'm not ungrateful if I don't use a gift...
This is a hard message to accept personally. I was raised to accept gifts and keep them and use them whether you like them or not. It's been incredibly difficult to go against this, especially when the person who raised me to be this way is the one gifting.
Anyway, this is to say that I donated a brand new red jacket that I my mother gave to me for my birthday. Last year, she gave it to me in the spring for my summer birthday, and by autumn when it was cold enough to wear it, it was too big. It was supposed to be a gift for a family friend and the gift for me was different red jacket, but I didn't like the original so my mother did a switcheroo.
But I held onto it for another 5 months unsure whether to offer it back to my mother. It had been ages so she couldn't exactly return it and get a refund. And if it was too big for me it would have been waaaay to big for the original recipient. So I finally plucked it from the cupboard the morning of a charity shop run and got rid of it.
I'm still hoping my mother doesn't ask after it, like she's been known to do about some gifts because the residual guilt is definitely still there but I value my space more than a jacket that wasn't useful to me (do I value myself more than the fear of upsetting people though?)
#my declutter journey#declutter#decluttering#my post#Tbh it wasn't waterproof and was lined with white fleece which were already turning me off of it#So the size was the factor I felt justified me enough to get rid of it

@loumauve gave me watercolours and I don't know the first thing on how to properly work with them but what better to try them out on than a pun taken too far
#we were discussing a cryptid au#and landed on selkie for ikrie#so have a sealkrie now and please don't ask how long it took me to get that red mixed#it's embarrassing#the ideal base colours were right there the entire time#my printer's ink is also not very waterproof which proved problematic in places#but i also didn't want to transfer the sketch by hand if i could just print it out#especially since i already spent way too long on it#i think i need to update my tablet's driver#the lines kept lagging behind a little#ikrie#hzd

um. hello 0.0
uhhh i just wanted to say im a huge fan of how you use watercolour it looks very pretty and ur art is so wonderful to see
do you have any tips with watercolour? like how to layer the colours to look nicer. or just getting neat lines when lining, my hands are a little shaky so its kind of hard sometimes
ty for ur time ur very very cool >~<
ty !!!!! :DDDD
for watercolor tips my best bet would be to wait for it to mostly dry before you layer and if you're extremely impatient like me then skip around areas that aren't touching so you don't have colors bleed into another . also base colors will most likely look bad but once you add more you'll be fine- and if you have a hairdryer then use it , use a higher heat but less power so you don't blow it across the whole paper sjkdfhgkljdgf (and also more pigment is easier for layering because you can blot it away with a paper towel if there's too much)
for lining i struggle with the same thing- typically for lining anything i make really fast strokes or i do a sketchy-type thing just really clean . going fast with little lines usually is the way to go with shaky hands
i use tube watercolors but they're very similar to pan ones imo !!!! i use master's touch ones which are p generic brand (i think) but any works . also make sure to use actual watercolor paper (or at the very least multimedia) it works better
thank you for the ask :DDDD
#and with the shakiness issue#you can also combat the shakiness if you know how#although that requires knowing where it comes from#but for me it usually means that i'm out of the house or that i haven't had enough water or food#so keep a snack and water next to you if that's the case with you#that doesn't completely stall my shaky hands though but it brings them to a point where it's mostly not noticable#and also test your pens to see if they're waterproof before you paint something#and remember you don't have to watercolor with lines i do lineless a lot#greatdetectivesaturn#asked box
