Saarschleife, Mettlach, Germay: The Saarschleife, also known as the Great Bend in the Saar at Mettlach, is a water gap carved by the Saar River through a quartzite layer and today one of the most well-known tourist attractions of the Saarland. The Saarschleife begins near the Besseringen section of the town of Merzig and ends in Mettlach. Although Besseringen and Mettlach are only separated by approximately two kilometers, the Saar follows a winding course of nearly ten kilometers. Wikipedia

the narrows. cumberland, maryland
the narrows is a natural river gorge, cut between two mountains now named wills and haystack- both sides of the mountains ridges have rocky outcroppings that make for some impressive overlooks; these photos were taken late october of this past year from the unofficial “cumberland overlook” on haystack mountain, the cliff face west of the river. just over the gap pictured above is wills mountain, the rocky outcropping named lovers leap, and if you squint hard enough- the abandoned artmor plastic factory.
for several decades now wills mountain has been a controversial topic among locals, this is because the impressive natural landmark has been completely inaccessible to the public as a result of landlocking- all sides of the mountain are pressed by privately owned industrial efforts including a quarry, a railroad, and the artmor factory (despite it being defunct). but i'm the type of person to see a no trespassing sign as a challenge, so when i first moved to cumberland i quickly heard about the factory from locals and was excited to check it out- this was only a few years ago so it was already beyond its prime and had seen several fires, many of the rooms were collapsed or covered in charred debris and every time i've been i was genuinely worried for my safety on some of the floors. this past year i visited it again upon hearing the news that the state purchased the previously private property that artmor (and the road accessing the park) sits on, although no official plans have been announced im assuming they're going to demolish the factory in order to install a parking lot for park visitors- i don't really have any complaints because the building is dangerous asf, but it sucks knowing what use to be the best local bando in its prime is disappearing. anyway, my advice to you is to not try your hand at exploring it yourself- not even because of physical risk but because they have a ranger patrolling the factory regularly while the property is being surveyed, i know because he chased me out last time.

screenshots from the videos i took last time i visited artmor ^^^
western maryland is so slept on, just cumberland itself has a handful of abandoned factories and it’s a busy hub for freight transport- you can actually watch the trains pass through the gorge from either mountains overlook, when they approach you can feel them rumble the mountains before you even see them come around the bend, the view from in a intermodal well looking up at the cliff faces while the sun is just hitting them just right is insane; i’ve included a video i recorded of the wmsr train down at the bottom of the valley on the same day as the overlook photos.

Can we get some sibling bonding between Raph and Donnie? I can imagine Raph trying to influence Donnie to create destructive gadgets but somehow they end up just being cute. Like a firework, but only confetti comes out.

atwow hot take:
if jake had said his "son for a son" shit out loud and spider had heard him, he would have been so beyond pissed, he would be seeing red.
spider loved his little siblings so much, neteyam included, even after they grew apart. he loved them like they were his own blood and protected them like they were too (we see a lot more of them together in the comics, where spider is the big brother without a doubt). neteyam's death most certainly rocked him hard, even if he hasn't really been able to show it (how could he? he's already going through all the shit with his dad and the RDA and their nonsense, he can't grieve around neytiri, he's just so tired after it all. he doesn't have the room or the energy to grieve yet)
so if jake had the audacity to say that to/around spider not even a few hours after he watched his little brother get shot after coming to save him, after he stared at the bullet hole in his back, after he watched him take his last breaths, after he watched the light leave his eyes, after he watched his little brother die for him; if he said that while his little brother's body lay in a pool of his own blood not even ten feet away, not even cold yet, blood still clinging to his chest, the scent of it still filling the air: he would have lost his shit.
because the disrespect for his brother is wild.
jake was an active player in spider's neglect and abuse for the last 16 years, he let it happen, he helped it happen. he tried to send spider with the humans, tried to take him away from his siblings, from the forests, from eywa to live with his foster family that didn't love him (not to mention Nash was an asswipe of epic proportions) and the RDA of all people. he had referred to spider as a stray animal since he was little. he was the reason spiders life was hell.
and after all that, years and years of putting him in shit positions and allowing him to suffer the fate of being forever unloved and uncared for (by an adult authority figure, cause I love the kids, but they don't make up for the gap left by a parent), this is what it took for jake to care about him? his little brother had to die in front of him first? he had to be traded out to fill the space of a corpse, to fill in the gap left by his little brother's death?
in canon, spider was in deep in shock with nothing to break him from it, he wasn't in the place to really think about any of it, and I'm sure we're gonna see this anger in the coming movies, but if jake had said it out loud, that would have been enough to snap spider right out of it, and he would have given jake a piece of his mind, I just know it.
#he loves neteyam too much to let jake do that. to say that. he'd never allow it.#spider is such a good big brother. he loves his siblings too much.#if jake had said that to his face there would have been hell to pay. regardless of how out of it spider was with shock/grief/pure exhaustio#spider doesn't even care about the disrespect being done to him by that statement. he just cares about neteyam.#cause how could a father say that? how could he just move on. fill the gap with a “stray” as he puts it. take him in after all he'd done to#him? it wasn't fair#it wasn't fair to him and it most certainly wasn't fair to neteyam#I love spider. he deserves a family that loves him and wants him. he wants it. but this is not what either of us asked for.#that line has always rubbed me wrong. and it would have rubbed spi wrong too. I just know it.#I really hope we see spider express his rightful anger/disgust to this whole thing next movie#though I worry he will be too busy feeling guilty over everything and feeling like he just has to be grateful. but one can hope.#he deserves to be angry#and his dynamic with neteyam deserves to be explored. cause its a crime that it was ignored in the movie.#avatar 2#avatar the way of water#spider socorro#miles spider socorro#miles socorro#neteyam#neteyam sully#neteyam te suli tsyeyk'itan#jake sully#I wanna punch that man so hard istg. I can't with him. I won't say I hate him. but lord have mercy I can't with him.#my baby boys deserved better#spider was neteyam's big brother. that's my agenda#we need to talk about them more

it was awfully difficult for you to hide your swooning for dad jake. the way he held tuk in his arms until she feel asleep and how he watched her lovingly as she wrapped her tiny hand around his big thumb. or how he made sure nobody went to sleep angry, and that any problem you ran into was resolved before the sun went down.
you, kiri and tuk were sitting around the fire, kiri braiding her hair and tuk in your arms looking up at you as you cooked the fish you had caught that same morning. the boys were gone, out hunting and jake had left a while later to fetch them. it didn't dawn on you that they were gone for a while until you heard jake's voice in the distance.
"you hungry, tuktuk?" she cooed before giggling playfully. her eyes squinted and you admired her adorable expression. you enjoyed moments like these were you took care of jake's children. your children. it made you feel whole. you wished you savored this moment as you heard your husband's voice from afar.
"jesus, you must be some real geniuses to not know how to follow direct orders," he grunted as he walked towards where you three were sitting. your town sons were following him, heads down as they knew what they did and what was coming. Jake stood in front of the fire, hands balled up into fists as he stared at his two sons that were now standing behind you.
you held tuk closer to your chest as to not scare her and looked between jake and your sons. kiri was alarmed too, staring at her two brothers.
"what happened?" your legs remained crosses in front of you as you awaited for an answer. jake laughed sarcastically and pointed at his two sons.
"these two knuckleheads thought I would be a good idea to sneak up on a Thanator. Practically got killed." jake said looking away from his guilty sons. at this, you stood up. still rocking tuk in your arms, you faced your sons, scanning to make sure they weren't wounded.
"are you hurt?" you went to both of them, caressing their cheeks as they gave you those saddened eyes, those eyes filled with guilt and fear.
"we're fine, mother" neteyam said, assuring you with a smile. jake walked towards them, pointing a finger at them while doing so.
"I told you to stay away from obvious threats, you are not trained for that yet. why do you not listen?" he hissed at them and their faces contorted at their father's screaming. lo'ak opened his mouth to speak but neteyam beat him to it.
"dad, we thought we had it. we wanted to-"
"wanted what, huh? wanted to get yourselves killed? jesus, one of these days you are gonna give me a heart attack. go to your rooms. go!" he yelled and gestured them to go to their hut. you sighed and nodded at them as they walked towards their rooms.
you turned around towards your husband who had his hand on his forehead, sighing heavily.
"I'll go help them" she stood up, fixing her newly braided hair.
"thank you, kiri" you told her and kissed her forehead before she followed her brothers. you stared at your husband who was huffing and puffing, fuming at his son's behavior.
"what am I gonna do? no matter what I say, no matter how I scold them, they always step in harm's way" he threw his arms up as a gesture of "giving up". a bad thing about being a father was the worry he constantly felt for his children. lo'ak and neteyam took from his father. they had his ambition and his curiosity. his warrior like mentality. it was certainly a challenge to keep them at bay, but it was much more difficult for jake to handle that, than it was for you.
you were feisty enough to keep him at his feet when you first met. always going about things in an aggressive manner. but you had been pregnant for so long that your body's condition calmed jake, made him less worried. but his sons sparked a worry in him that he had only felt with you. the worry of losing someone. thankfully, he had you to relieve him of his worries.
"Jake.." you walked towards him, placing your hand on his shoulder.
"they are ambitious, like you. hard-headed but they are warriors like you. you can't blame them for that. they have your nature." he looked at you with pain in his eyes. you knew he was scared. as proud as he was to admit it, you knew as soon as you looked into his eyes.
"thought we lost them," he laid his head on your shoulder, staring down at your daughter in your arms. you put your hand on the back of his head, caressing his hair.
"I know, hun. but they're fine, they're alive. we are all alive," he sighed, looking back up at you. he rested his forehead on yours, breathing in your air.
"just wanna keep em' safe, you know?"
"they're safe here jake, you can stop worrying now." he leaned in to kiss you and you let him, caressing his cheek. the baby in between you was making gargling sounds to express disgust. you both pulled away and looked at her, letting out a synchronized giggle.
"you don't worry about that now, go to sleep, honey" he planted kisses on her cheeks, prompting her to giggle loudly. he tickled her sides and you admired his change in attitude. you stared into his eyes that were filled with admiration. the young child under him, opened her eyes wide as she stared up at her father, grabbing at the air and reaching out for her father.
"oh, this is what you want? hm?" he reached at the back of his head, pulling the hair tie that held his hair in a ponytail. he let his dreads fall loose for his daughter to grab, as he knew she loved to play with them. you placed your hand on his cheek, pulling his face up to look at you.
"I love you," you whispered through a smile. his eyes softened and he intertwined his fingers with yours.
"I love you too, kid"
