This is a first for me - a vape commission. First problem was needing some material to attach all the embellishments. I wrapped the thin magnetic side panels with brass strips and then sealed the brass and titanium panel with a thin resin pour. I then crafted two layers of balsa wood to fit snuggly in the form. If I had to do it over, I would have picked a stronger material - like a 3D print. Next time.

I wanted a window to add depth and reveal a gear train mechanism. That alone took hours of layering vintage brass gears in the ring. I want it to look like a real machine so I try to avoid "orphan" gears. I've used glow in the dark pigment in resin under the mesh grills, brass panels and in the glass tube. Easy to charge using a UV torch. The rest is a cacophony of vintage crowns, brass tubing, miscellaneous beads, screws, pins, wire, struts and textured elements. There is even a little glass mercury switch.

I've had to take time off this year so this was a real challenge to start building again. I'm happy to answer any questions about the project. My client is happy with the result but I warned him that it is fragile.

I had a client recently ask me to make a steampunk mechanical bee for her and gave me a photo of a tattoo for reference. This is the result. The wings were a problem as I wanted them light. I ended up cutting down two brass pendant bases and filling them with UV resin. They then had to be sanded back to the brass and finally polished. I was aiming on transparent but the frosting works. Her body is an old brass electrical terminal cut to fit. Her wire legs are threaded through the body for security. The crimps are for effect and to stop the feet scratching if worn as a pendant.

She also contains an assortment of gears, pinions, screws, bolts, rivets, an electrical probe is her "stinger" and her wire antenna do rotate. I hope the client likes her but if not I'll try again. I've already had interest so she will sell either way.

For just $18.00 A silver pendant with an odd assortment of mechanical parts: steampunk gears, springs, and little wings on this dog tag pendant. It began life as a blank and I filled it with bits from my collection of tiny things and recycled bits. There are 8 springs, several gears, and knobs, screws and a few other things you have to look closely to see. While it looks like a standard dog tag, it catches the light and shows off the unique composition. It is made by filling the blank with two-part epoxy resin and then adding the carefully selected small design items. Then it is brushed all over with permanent iridescent silver powder. There is even a tiny brass key in there somewhere! The pendant is hung from a wolven black cord and finished off with a little heart clasp. Can be made shorter if you like. Another one of my miniature worlds! This time a microscopic painter's studio inside a gold-plated vintage women's watch case. I have added quite a lot of details such as an easel, canvases, drawings, paint tubes, palette, paint brushes as well as much more. All the tiny paintings have been hand-painted and the front has been closed with a piece of glass which I have cut to size. The scale of the scene is about 1:200. The final piece has been complemented with a gold chain so it can worn as a necklace. Enjoy!
