#watching fmab

Okay. I'm going to watch Brotherhood. I'm going to be so brave about watching this new show. I'll try it out and form my own opinions.

(I have to talk to myself like a parent trying to get their toddler to eat vegetables... Or drink milk, perhaps.)

I'll try to keep all my thoughts in this reblog chain so I don't clog the FMA tag with my reactions to each episode, but they'll still be tagged on my blog, so followers who filter out the tags don't have to see them. (Though, if you've filtered the tag, how are you seeing this? Oh, well.) Because it's an RB chain, though, I won't be able to ramble in tags like usual, so there will be a lot of text in these.

With like the FMAB Watching Thing: are Hughes and Gracia also Ed and Al's parents?

No they are not. That's not to say the two didn't go: OUR SONS about the two, but they aren't bounded to the kids like Roy.

Hughes doesn't have soul children, while Gracia does but hers is a teenage girl who crashes at their place once in a while. She's like Ed in that she travels around and the such. She got kicked out of her house due to her mom remarrying another man, and neither wanting her, and her bio dad not wanting her either. She isn't interested in staying in one place, but she is family.

She and the Elrics meet up from time to time. Her name is Sarah.

As I begin my umpteenth rewatch of fullmetal alchemist brotherhood I am once again reminded about how amazing it is that this show actually exists in the form that it does like can you imagine if a show like fmab was released today an almost 100% faithful adaptation of the source material not squeezed into 8 or 10 or 12 episode blocks so it can fit a season but given just the right amount of episodes needed to tell the complete story start to end

Hello there! Do you plan to watch fmab too? Because I'd be really curious to see what you like or dislike from it after watching 03<3

Hi!! :D

I will almost certainly watch FMAB, but I think I'm going to rewatch 03 first, which shouldn't take too long with the pace I'm going at! I might start in the middle of my rewatch, too--it could be fun to compare the shows side-by-side while they're still on the same plots and see how they both handle them.

I've already heard a lot about FMAB and generally know how it ends/in which ways it diverges, and while I've heard loads of praise as well as critique, I'm going to go into it with an open yet perceptive mind. I've been taking detailed notes on 03 with my rewatch, so hopefully I'll take a similarly attentive attitude when watching FMAB, though maybe to a less obsessive extent!

My gut feeling tells me I won't like it nearly as much as 03, but I sincerely hope it's an enjoyable watch! Most of the ways it's different from 03 are not ones I was happy to hear, but there are SOME I really wish we got to see sometime in 03. I've heard (FMAB SPOILER?) Tucker dies, which should be enough to motivate me into watching up to that point.

I am weirdly curious about the whole Kimblee thing in the watching FMAB stuff. Like... how?

Okay so: Kimblee in this AU is canon Kimblee. He's a sociopath who enjoys killing and mayhem. He's got a weird code of honour/belief system.

And he's possessive of what he deems his which was Amelia and Elaine. Amelia, for being his romantic, Elaine for being his soul child.

He and Amelia were engaged but she broke it off after his sociopathic tendencies were fully revealed. (Amelia struggled with Ishval despite being a good soldier and was horrified by how callous he was about it) He lets her, because it's her choice but he's possessive over her.

Amelia visits him once a year because she misses the man she thought he was and due to a sense of obligation to her soulmate. She only once mentioned Elaine to him, but that was it as Elaine does't want to talk to him. He respected that, but to him Elaine was his.

At the funeral, Elaine confronts him about Ishval and is pretty messed up by how he talks. He himself fixates a lot on Elaine, and struggles a bit thanks to his wish to 'finish his duty' killing all Ishvalans.

Doesn't mean he isn't working with the Homunculi, but he is a little conflicted about maybe having to kill HIS soul child.

All in all, Kimblee is still canon, the subplot with him is like Elaine struggling, her connection to Winry and thus the Elrics and the idea that sometimes a soul match is just fucked up, and doesn't actually mean anything more then what you put into it.
