Aquarium Meet Cute
You were just trying to give your team the day off. And then they disappeared. But atleast you met a cute guy?
Watari x reader
It was a day off for your team.
You don’t remember who even made the suggestion, but you found yourself tracking a team of giants through the Kanagawa Aquarium.
But you somehow managed to lose all of them but Yamamoto.
You cursed yourself under your breath, rubbing at your temples. “Why did I agree to manage this team? I bet the Red Falcons wouldn’t give me this much of a headache, Aran knows how to control his players.”
“You’d leave us?” You turned, seeing Yamamoto’s pouting face and sighed. He was declared your official team simp by the rest of VC Kanagawa, and honestly as much as it surprised his high school captain you found him the easiest to control because of it- but you didn’t know why he was surprised, you had gone to school with them. He always knew you weren’t interested, so he never truly pursued you, but he was also your best friend.
“No.” You sighed again, “I’m not going to leave you guys. Remember, the Sendai Frogs already offered me a position and I turned it down to stay with you.” You had to reach to pat him gently on the head, only to be caught off guard by a voice behind you.
“You may have dodged a bullet in turning that job down.” You spun, almost tripping over Yamamoto’s leg beside you, as you came face to face with a man wearing a uniform for the aquarium. A very cute man wearing a uniform for the aquarium. “An old high school teammate of mine plays for Sendai, he was… I don’t think there is a word to really cover how aggressive he is.”
Yamamoto snorted but tried to cover it up before muttering, “You’ve clearly never seen Y/N when we do things they don’t like.”
“Taketora.” You glared at him, “Watch it.” He nodded frantically, almost looking afraid to disagree, as you turned back to the worker, “I think I’ve met who you’re talking about, Kyotani?”
The man smiled again, nodding as he laughed, “We called him Mad Dog. Iwaizumi- our ace-“
“I know Iwa.” You laughed, “I’ve worked with him training these idiots.”
He nodded his head in understanding, “Iwa was the only one that could get to do anything, Yahaba seemed to learn for our third year though.”
You hummed, but Yamamoto laughed again, “Yeah, no, he tried to get in Y/N’s face because his spike couldn’t make it past their block, and Y/N shut him down and somehow managed to have him clean their gym. And then he came to our gym that weekend and cleaned it. Y/N had to scold the team so we’d stop watching in amazement.”
“Tora-“ you pinched your brow, getting ready to glare him into next week, when the cute guy laughed.
“That’s amazing. Where were you when I had to play with him?”
Yamamoto thumped your shoulder with his, with a big grin on his face, “Going to Nekoma with me.”
The former Seijoh player nodded, seeming to take a step back, “Fair point,” his smile seemed to turn more polite, “Well, I will let you get back to your date.”
“Oh, no-“ you snorted, Taketora looking only mildly hurt since he knew those feelings weren’t reciprocated, “No, we are not- this is not-“
He looked almost relieved, “My bad, I’m Watari, by the way.”
“There’s Y/N!” You turned to see Riseki rapidly approaching with Chigaya and Chita and the rest of the team in tow, “I told you we left them near the clownfish!”
“No surprise Yamamoto is still with them.”
You crossed your arms over your chest, staring them down as their steps slowed on their approach, “Boys-“
“Hey, we’re men! And-“ the words died on his tongue as you raised an eyebrow before you continued.
“Boys.” You repeated, looking into each of their faces, “You were given one warning before you got off the bus. Do not leave my presence. And what did you do?”
“Well we-“ Chigaya started, stepping forward and puffing his chest before your glare shot back to him and stepped back, “…we left your side.”
“And what does that mean now?” You heard snickering behind you, glancing to see Watari looking beyond amused before turning back to your team. And then you waited.
Yamamoto jumped like a puppy who’s owner just came home after a long day, “It means that whoever left your side has to clean the gym without your help, your office without your help, and coach’s office without your help for two weeks every day after practice.”
You patted his head again, “And as the only one that didn’t run away, you get to skip practice once without coach’s approval, seeing as he gave pre approval because he didn’t think anyone would stay with me, and you don’t have to help clean anything for those two weeks.”
“Dammit.” Riseki sighed, “I told you we were gonna be in major trouble.”
“You were the first to branch off!” Chita snapped back, not looking any less ashamed than he had before.
“To the bus.” You pointed toward the exit, “Now. And just for the record, I’ve never seen coach throw anything away. You’ll have your work cut out for you.”
Riseki stubbed his toe against the ground, the other patrons of the aquarium staring as you barked this group of towers out the door, “We aren’t children.”
“If you aren’t children, I guess we don’t need to stop for food on the way back.”
“No- what? We haven’t eaten since lunch!”
“Exactly.” You smirked, turning back to Watari, who looked beyond intrigued in what was happening, “Sorry. It was good to meet you, and I really wish I could stay but- CHITA YOU LEAVE YAMAMOTO ALONE! He is not the reason you’re in trouble!” You smiled apologetically, kicking the players you could reach as you followed them back to the bus. You sighed as you took your seat near the driver, “I can’t believe you jackasses. He was really cute too.”
“Hey, you made us leave.” One of them grumbled, only to shrink in his seat when you stood to look back at him.
You sank back into your own seat, crossing your arms over your chest and pondering the cute guy you could’ve tried and, probably, failed to hit on.
You were busy smirking with Yamamoto, who was too busy FaceTiming with Tanaka, as the rest of the team went about their new extra cleaning duties. Riseki poked his head out of your office, “Is there anything in here that we need to worry about when it comes to trash or like… personal things?”
“I locked all important papers in my desk, and all personal items have been stowed in my bag and at home.” You answered, “You are safe to clean it.”
“… Chita has decided that means trash everything.”
You shrugged, he wasn’t necessarily wrong, but before you could reply there was a knock echoing off the open gym door and you started speaking as you turned, “Hey! This is the official gym for VC Kanagawa, is there something I can do for-“
Your voice faded to nothing as you locked eyes with Watari, who offered an awkward wave but a sweet smile, “Hey, sorry, I got a call to come by here?”
Yamamoto’s head snapped up from his phone, “Hey country boy! Glad you could make it.”
Watari laughed, “Yeah, Tanaka gave me a call, too. Apparently I’m supposed to say ‘didn’t I say I’d be here, city boy?’”
Your best friend grinned, “I’m gonna give these guys a hand, you two talk.”
Watari laughed as Yamamoto shoved his way into your office, “He isn’t subtle, is he?”
“Not even a little bit.” You chuckled, “What made you come here exactly?”
He shrugged, “He called me, told me if I wanted a chance with you then I needed to come by, also told me if you granted me a chance with you he’d kill me before he watched me hurt you.”
“Aw,” you cooed jokingly, “he does care.”
“He does,” Watari grinned, “So how about that chance?”
You glanced back at your office, overstuffed with professional volleyball players that were already too big to fit more than two in there and were now stuck shoulder to shoulder as most of them crammed into the small room, before turning back, “Would you be interested in getting a coffee with me?”
He nodded his head to the players, “You don’t need to stay and watch them?”
You smirked, “You kidding? I told them they had to scrub that room spotless. There’s been a stain on that carpet that even professionals can’t get out that my predecessor put there. They’ll be here all night.”
Watari laughed brightly, “Amazing. Alright, my treat. There’s a great cafe down the street.”
You glanced back on your way out, Yamamoto meeting your gaze and shooting you a thumbs up.

Analysis of the romance in Death Note's Spiraling Trap game.
Tumblr media
EDIT 02/03/2024: minor edits and fixes, added a few imgs and extra content.
A huge thank you to the folks over at agtteam who translated L - the ProLogue to Death Note: Spiraling Trap into English! Now we can all date L become FBI agents after hours.
I've been playing the game recently and one of the features I love the most is the L Communicator, which allows the main character (referred to as MC henceforth) to take a break from adventuring and listen to L talk about whatever is on his mind.
There's around one hundred different lines available as the MC develops a relationship with L and they paint him as such a sweet, attentive and thoroughly unique individual that I was surprised by how detailed it was. If you're thinking about playing, then this part is definitely worth putting effort into.
The mechanics of the dating sim are relatively simple: during the adventure, you'll pick up a number of recipes hidden among traps and tools. Then, Watari will provide the ingredients and you can give L whatever sweets he specifically craves. These recipes and cravings depend on the time of day and can be season specific.
Character analysis
As stated in-game, giving L sweets causes his appreciation for the MC to grow. However, L being L, means that he craves different sweets throughout the day. He's definitely very specific about what he likes and what he wants for his sugar fix.
However, if you give L something he isn't craving at that specific moment, he will sulk. The way he expresses his displeasure varies according to the depth of the budding relationship he has with the MC.
L: To tell you the truth, there are many other things I would have preferred. L: [F/N], I hate to say this, but I really would have preferred something else. L: F/N], you must know that I was hoping for something else, right? L: [F/N]… It’s not my favorite but, it made me really happy.
Note: Given that the books in the expanded universe (Another Note and L: Change the WorLd) came out before this game, I think some of the quotes further ahead might be a subtle nod to how L is perceived by the police forces as the "creepy murder detective". However, references about his piece of mind lead me to believe that L craves some respite from the burdens he carries on his shoulders — burdens so strong that they managed to curve his spine.
Note: I'm unsure how the system here works, as the MC also gets points for gaining L's trust in the actual adventure when they a) agree with his observations and b) find key objects hidden in unsuspecting places. It might affect the available lines through the L Communicator.
L: Today is going to be a better day… Let’s think positive. L: I wonder what kind of morning this will be. L: It seems the air outside is crisp this morning.
L: I want to finish what I need to get done before night falls. L: It’s nearly sunset. Time for children to go back home. L: If you just stare into space, night will be here before you know it.
L: It’s already evening… Time keeps passing me by. L: There’s something different about the air at night. L: Night-time, dusk… It’s the witching hour.
As a naturally introspective individual, L observes the world around him and draws conclusions. To my surprise, the game actually managed to capture how observant L is about small, unsuspecting details of daily life and give him a slightly poetic side laced with a hint of wistfulness that suits his character well.
This is a side of L in his private life that I personally wish we had been able to glimpse during the Kira investigation. Though, at the time, L was busy trying to prove that Light was, indeed, Kira. It left him little to no time to enjoy the world around him. During the brief time that L could have had a semblance of rest right before the Yotsuba arc, he was depressed that his deductions were "wrong" — though I could see him musing about some of the above, equal parts whimsy and sulking.
L: If I start to lose my touch… I guess I’ll retire. L: Another day, another mystery… L: I have a lot of thinking to do. L: I feel like doing some capoeira… L: I haven't played tennis for a while. L: The weather today is… Well, it matters not. L: I, um… No, ignore me. L: Am I reading too much into it…?
As a thinker, L has a lot of unfinished thoughts he says out loud. Some border on cliché, others are musings about things he'd like to do or that he's missing.
I wonder if some of his thoughts end up trailing off because, suddenly, he catches himself and believes they're not important? Or that he doesn't think the MC would be interested in what he has to say beyond work matters?
L: “In spring one sleeps a sleep that knows no dawn.” Though, too much sleep isn’t good for anyone. L: If you think about things persistently, noticing all the sides to them will come naturally. L: Strawberries… Despite the name, they aren’t actually berries. How berry disappointing. L: The one who has thought it through wins. It’s true for chess, and for deduction. But in the case of love… I don't know.
He's also a philosopher at heart, always thinking about the human condition. In these we can also witness his dry humour, silly puns along with a subtle desire to share his thoughts on the world and give helpful advice.
As for love, L is cautious but willing to learn. It's a topic where he's out of his depth.
L: Um, Watari is… L: I wonder if Watari’s asleep? L: What could Watari be up to? L: Today is Thanksgiving Day. I am truly grateful to Watari for his diligence.
I found it interesting how L's thoughts eventually go back to Watari and what he's doing. He's the one person that L relies on and whom he interacts with the most. Other people are passing acquaintances at best, who show little interest in L beyond work.
Notice how he mentions diligence? Although it is a utilitarian consideration, it also reveals a thankfulness for the comforts of familiarity and the peace of mind that trusting someone close brings. This is a topic we'll explore better at a later stage, i.e., how trust and acts of service work as a relationship builder.
Romance
Tumblr media
Neutral stage
One of the first things I've noticed is that, during the early stages of the relationship, L is still very formal and quite a bit dismissive — even borderline rude. As his sugar fix gets sated by the MC's keen suggestions (Watari provides the ingredients, of course), L grows gradually more fond of them and wants to include the MC in his life with an enthusiasm I can only define as endearing.
L: Aren’t you bored? You don’t have to check in on me. L: Don’t you have stuff to do?
At the beginning, L is still wary of the MC on a personal level as they have absolutely no rapport beyond a partnership of circumstance and usefulness in the name of justice. He's quick to get bored and doesn't take it very well when he's given sweets he isn't craving. A bit childish, one could say, the way he sulks when the MC errs by not reading his mind.
L: Did I enjoy it? Let me just say “no comment”. (about sweets that weren't quite to his taste)
It's also very in-character for L to feel both annoyed at someone who is randomly calling him and be suspicious of their motives.
Tumblr media
Growing interest
L: Spending the afternoon with you isn’t so bad. L: Even though it’s late, you’re not going to bed, huh? L: You must be a night owl, [F/N]. L: I’m a little curious about you, [F/N]. L: Are you having a good time? I’m just curious. L: You’re kind of… Ah, no, forget I said anything.
He starts addressing the MC by their first name as he becomes more enamoured. It's very sweet. I was pleasantly surprised at how attentive L becomes as he gradually comes to the conclusion that this is a person who understands him.
Mind, due to game mechanics the MC gains approval by giving L sweets, but from a narrative perspective what's really happening is that L not only feels seen and understood, but also accepted. And when that happens, he starts lowering his walls and relaxing.
As a plot device, I would say these are defining moments within L's thought process here; he's curious about the MC, finds them interesting enough to want to know more them and pursues that curiosity to see what they might have in common. It seems he's both a little baffled and content about this development.
L: [F/N], what do you think of when you see a sunset? L: What are you doing this afternoon? Oh, should I not have asked? L: Are you a night owl? Oh, you don’t have to answer if you don’t want.
It should also be noted that L is very mindful of boundaries. There's a tentative, almost shy attempt to connect. He's determined to indulge in his curiosity since the MC's attentiveness towards him shows an opening for closeness he's unused to (but is happy about) and to tend to his more immediate needs (i.e., food cravings), which in turn shows a genuine concern for him. Aside from Watari, I doubt anyone ever extended L similar kindness.
And it is in this determination to get to know the MC that I also find Mello's words (AA: LABB Murder Cases) that L is actually a very active, aggressive individual with absolutely no interest in social conventions perfectly represent him this game, as he navigates a growing fondness with expectation, curiosity and caution — on his own terms, while minding that he doesn't overstep.
L: Staying up late talking to you… It makes me feel calm.
I find it particularly heartbreaking how this confession of L unknowingly makes it more transparent how burdened he is. The spine curved by burdens unseen, the addiction to mind games and sweets; all of these point to stress factors which isolate him further, increasing the loneliness and lack of affection in his life.
That L feels the need to mention the MC makes him feel calm seems telling.
L: We’re both late workers, huh? That makes me happy. L: [F/N]… You’re pretty formidable. L: It’s reassuring to have a partner like you. You’re someone I can trust. L: Your feelings have been received. (Valentine's Day) L: The fact we’ve become so close was an unexpected development on my part.
And here it is, the acknowledgement just as L enters the highest stages of approval, where he expresses admiration and happiness at the close bond he developed with the MC.
"An unexpected development on my part" is quite the turn of phrase. One can only wonder, but I'd make an educated guess that L didn't see this coming because:
a) no one showed feelings towards him before. In his line of work, hidden behind a screen there is no time to indulge or get attached to anyone (he would mistrust their intentions anyway) and so L keeps everyone at arms length, sharing little more than a professional side of himself and fostering utilitarian relationships that help him win "games". L ultimately carries various burdens the average civilian would never be able to understand, all due to the pressure of his job. When failing at the "game of cat and mouse" means being responsible for the likely deaths of dozens, perhaps even hundreds or thousands, the stakes are up in unimaginable ways. What started as a thrill chase can have catastrophic consequences should L fail. That in itself alienates him from society at large. It's a game that L plays well and absolutely profits from, but it is also an indicative of two major flaws: his addictive personality and how he suppresses his emotions to carry on. Coincidentally, it's the expanded universe, in particular Another Note: LA BB Murder Case and L: Change the WorLd, that give us the best insight into this. This isn't too dissimilar to the struggles policemen face in high risk jobs or technicians who have to flag and delete sensitive content from online platforms. These people end up changed from what they see — and some carry traumas for the rest of their lives. That's not to say that L doesn't feel for others. He respects people whom he considers good or morally upstanding (Soichiro Yagami), who are competent in their line of work (Naomi Misora, Mogi), worthy of a second chance (Aiber and Wedy), who speak their minds, unafraid (Aizawa) or who are reliable, loyal to him as a person and not just his cause, in whom he can place his trust and feel secure won't betray him (Watari). The MC seems to fall mostly in the last category, though the relationship is rather precocious — and there seems to be a fair amount of wishful thinking and even projecting on L's part, since communication happens over a device connecting two people remotely. He falls both for the idea of the individual and their attentiveness towards him. When L mentions that they make him feel calm, I'd argue it comes both as a surprise to him and a confession of a closeness and safety he intimately craved — though I personally view L as someone who feels lonely and wanting healthy human contact, even if his social skills might not be the best (worsened by his distrust of people as a whole). Someone who ultimately is willing to adapt to him but whom he can adapt to, as well. Someone who sees him as a person and not an unfeeling robot. It's a POV that certainly challenges certain aspects of DN: Vol 13. I would further argue that L's portrayal has evolved significantly beyond the manga, and that his subsequent humanising is partially a result of the creative liberties the English translations took, as well as a more empathetic view of the character and hidden struggles. Each medium displays a separate iteration of L, with common variables.
b) L fosters distant relationships with others as a safety measure. Aside from Watari, L's contact with other people had always been distant, work-focused, perhaps even tainted by notions of his supposed creepiness as a kinky detective "who relished bizarre murders" (L:CtW). He's useful to the police because he achieves favourable results, though L is still viewed as "a human computer, capable only of measuring mass murders in terms of cold numbers, a reclusive sociopath" (L:CtW). He isn't necessarily liked; in fact, I would argue he rubs people the wrong way most of the time — as we can see during his interactions with the Task Force, during the events of Death Note. L is tolerated, a useful asset who is both mysterious and a pain to deal with. However, he's also put on a pedestal due to his status (i.e., Relight, the children at Wammy's). For the latter, he purposely shatters their idea of L as this unbeatable, paragon of justice by defining himself as a monster (anime), a dishonest cheating human being who hates losing (manga). I do share in lux-mea-lex's perspective on L doubting his own humanity and how it fuels a certain self-hatred for distrusting everyone around him. As lux mentions, "love comes with trust" and L is an excellent detective precisely because he questions everything and everyone — but it comes at a cost: his own loneliness. To draw a parallel, L's ultimate flaw — and that which makes him great at his job — is not unlike what we see during the moments of extreme anguish that Veronica Mars goes through in her personal relationships and which draw people away from her when she oversteps boundaries to prove she's not being lied to. That mistrust comes from experience, for people burdened with having seen too much and it's not unlike a kind of paranoia acquired when one has to deal with the worst of humanity on a daily basis.
Tumblr media
Full reciprocity
L: [F/N] you’re the light that illuminates the dark night. That’s an exaggeration of course, but… L: What I need to live is glucose… and to talk to you. Nourishment for my brain and heart. L: When we’re together, I feel like there’s no problem we can’t solve. L: The afternoons I get to spend with you are precious to me.
When the MC achieves the stage of full reciprocity with L, he's very open to showing vulnerability and lowering his emotional defenses. I found this to be particularly sweet, as L is such a secretive man with so many hidden layers that him being willing to show such honesty with that one person he holds dear is incredible character development.
Beyond the game, I would say that achieving this stage with L would be much more difficult and, naturally, would involve going beyond picking the best sweets for him.
Something important to keep in mind is that L seems to value acts of service, as the people who interact with him more closely have some utility value and aid his work. However, L's life revolves around his work; he lives and breathes his detective work, which is why having a partner who brings him peace would be so important.
L: The time I spend with you is as important to me as the sweets. L: Good morning. It makes me really happy to see you here. L: For your sake… I’d think of a way to get through anything. We share a bond. L: When you have time, I’d like to take you to a shop that makes the best sweets. L: When you’re free, how about we play tennis together? I will have Watari reserve a court. L: If something were to happen to me… I want you, as the person I hold dearest, to carry on the L moniker. L: When my thoughts hit a dead end late at night, I feel like I’m stuck in a maze. But, having you here makes me feel reassured.
I also found it very sweet how L takes the initiative to plan for activities to do together with the MC. And how their presence, their reassuring words make him feel at ease. It seems that a loving relationship would give L a goal in life beyond his work.
Carrying on the L moniker... this quote might be the result of L's trust in the MC growing during the events of the game, or a sentiment L nurtures due to the MC being attentive enough to understand his specific cravings. But being able to read L and having the mental dexterity to become him are different things, as the latter involves a lifestyle that few would want and a complete focus on work. Even FBI agents have lives beyond work.
L: I learned from you that sweets are the bond that brings people together. L: You give me true peace of mind. No one could ever replace you. L: The way I am now, I… I can’t think straight when you’re not around. L: Being able to share this sunset with you, I couldn’t ask for anything more. L: You understand, don’t you [F/N]? What my heart so strongly desires is something more… L: When I talk to you, I feel like my senses are sharpened. Thanks to that, my radar has become more sensitive.
What a sweet guy. I love how L focuses on the little things and just wants to spend time together with the person he holds dearest. It's almost as if he daydreams a close, loving relationship — a trait that clashes with L's logical side.
This game and the expanded universe of Death Note have convinced me that there are many more layers to L than what we can see in the main story.
As Fu Takahashi, who plays L in the 2020 Japanese version of the musical, said:
“(...) A common thing about L among these versions is that, despite his superficial image as a smart guy who hates losing, he actually feels lonely and needs affection, I imagine. Perhaps he is an orphan – his character suggests so. He tries to control his emotions, like the feelings towards his parents, or romantic feelings; that’s why he is sort of dependent on games or battles of the mind. So I want to play L while thinking about the foundations on which his personality has been formed.”
I think this quote and the game are actually very telling of L's core personality and how it moves beyond that cold, calculating persona that defines him in the manga. It's also more in line with the characterisation that we see in the anime and the books, which help humanise L.
As I mentioned elsewhere, learning how to trust and be comfortable around someone else would do L wonders. Though that person would have to accept him for who he is and help him learn how to navigate a healthy relationship.
Perhaps the true test of love, for L, would even be for him to be confronted with someone who knows who he really is and, is not only kind to him, but also sees the best in him — regardless of his flaws. I think that we've had a glimpse of it in this game and it's a breath of fresh air.

Open up - Tsukishima x reader
Requested by @shoulmate - kind of part two to "Friends"
Tumblr media
He had not known how bad he was at opening up to people until he left Karasuno.
The comfort of being a third year, of being familiar with the habits and quirks of his classmates and, especially, the people in the Volleyball Club, had tricked him into thinking he’d be just fine in College.
But he wasn’t fine. He was far from being fine.
-
Where it was relatively easy to explain to himself that what he was feeling was only natural, he couldn’t bring himself to tell Yamaguchi that he missed him.
His constant presence had become a comfort he’d taken for granted.
He missed Yachi, her bubbly personality, and even her almost predictable bouts of over-worrying. But he supposed that Yamaguchi missed her even more, now that she was studying in Tokyo.
He even missed - and that was something he’d never tell anyone - he even missed the monster duo. Training was too quiet without their constant fights and with no one there to challenge him like those two had, he felt himself falling into a rut.
-
Three months into College he caved and called Kuroo, nibbling on the nail of his right thumb as he waited for the Call to connect, the habit he’d picked up from Yamaguchi a sick kind of comfort.
“You’re lonely.” Kuroo summarized the moment he finished his explanation. “That’s not surprising.”
He wanted to argue against it, but even he knew that it would make him sound even more childish. He’d been the one calling after all.
“It’s hard for everyone. To be a first-year again. To lose so many friends.”
His voice sounded a bit hoarse for a moment and Tsukishima remembered with a start that while he and Yamaguchi had always been in the same year, Kenma and Kuroo had always been one year apart.
College must have been especially hard for him if he still felt like that about it.
“As nice as it is to know that I’m not alone, I didn’t call for that, you know.”
“Yeah, yeah.” Kuroo laughed. “But do you really need my advice for that? You know what you got to do, right?”
He scowled at the thought.
“Right. Yeah. I was just hoping-”
“You were just hoping I had something else up my sleeve? Sorry. You still need to talk to people. Open up a bit, Tsukki.”
“Don’t call me that.”
-
1. Find someone on your team. Maybe there’s someone you already know. Or someone you could look up to.
“Kyoutani, right?” He asked the older boy, despite knowing perfectly well that this was his name. God, he so wanted to be somewhere else right now.
“Yeah, so?”
“I was wondering if you’d be up to train.”
“Why would I?”
“We’re on the same team?”
“So?”
He fought against the urge to pinch his nose. This guy was even worse than Kageyama.
Wait. Kageyama.
“Well, I wanted to train my blocking technique. But if you think I’m too strong for you, I’ll find someone else.”
“The fuck you just said?” Kyoutani is right up in his face now, baring his teeth. “I’ll wipe the floor with you!”
“Great. Tonight after practice?”
“You bet.”
Kyoutani did, in fact, wipe the floor with him.
But he pulled him up at the end of it, looked him over like he contemplated throwing him into the dumpster outside, and nodded.
“I can’t train on Mondays or Fridays. We can do all the other days. Just don’t talk too much.”
-
2. Find someone in one of your courses. Someone who needs help studying or someone who can help you study. Yes, Tsukki, such people exist.
“Watari, right?" He asked the boy, vaguely remembering the name from some assignments.
“Ah, yes. And you’re Tsukishima?”
“Yes. We’re in the same Biology Class.”
“Yes, I’ve noticed. You went to Karasuno, right?”
“Yes?” He narrowed his eyes at the other boy. Where was this going?
Watari’s smile did not waver under Tsukishima’s glare. It was unnerving to talk to someone so calm. It reminded him of Sugawara and he’d learned long ago that that calm demeanor could be flipped like a coin.
“I went to Aoba Johsai. I remember playing against you.”
“Oh. But you’re not in the Volleyball Team anymore?”
“No. It felt like the time for me to try something new. Besides, I’d flunk all my Classes if I tried to focus on anything else besides the Course material.”
“About that…” Tsukishima started, already cringing at himself. “I think I could help with that.”
After one Monday and one Friday spent with Watari, Tsukishima was ready to admit he’d never become a teacher.
But the other boy was a lot less annoying as a student than the Monster Duo.
He could see himself keeping this up and it was kind of nice to talk about Volleyball in between studying.
-
3. Find someone else. Be a bit creative. You might learn something new about yourself.
This is the hardest part.
He didn’t want to talk to the people he meets in the cafeteria. Or the people watching his Volleyball Matches, even now that he’s got to actually play on the court.
He didn’t want to think about the internship he’d going to have to suffer through next semester.
Weren’t two new friends enough, he asked himself when he’s alone in his room, studying, reading, listening to music. When he endures Watari struggling with memorizing things, or Kyoutani’s way of talking during their training.
Aren’t two new friends enough, he asks himself when he walks through the library one day only to find… you.
He’s neither quick nor small enough to duck behind a cart or another person and you spot him almost the instant he recognizes you.
And the way your face lights up cuts a piece straight out of his heart.
“Tsukishima.” You walk up to him where he’s frozen on the spot. “What a coincidence to meet you here. How are you?”
“Hrrm.” He makes, his tongue unable to unknot himself. You nod.
“I don’t want to keep you, but if you want, we could go for a coffee and catch up?”
He’s unable to say no. And not in the way that his mouth won’t open, because that too, but even if he could speak, he couldn’t say no to you.
But he can and will protect himself. He’s promised himself that.
Back as a first-year at Karasuno, when he had a crush on you and realized it was never going to be reciprocated.
Back in his second year at Karasuno, when you stopped coming to their games, and he only ever saw you in passing or heard you mentioned in conversations.
Back in his third year at Karasuno, when the hallways were void of you and he didn’t even have Ennoshita around to hear about you. When even the pain of not having you sounded better than the void you left behind.
“How’s Ennoshita?” He asks as soon as you take a seat.
“Good, I guess.” You puff out your cheeks and blow at your coffee and he wonders if you know how adorable that makes you look. “Haven’t talked to him in a while. Didn’t think he’d forget about me so easily now that he has a girlfriend.”
He chokes on his drink.
You hit him on the back, but it does nothing to ease his mind.
“He- girlfriend- Ennoshita- you?” He chokes out and you pull your hand back to muster him.
“Yes. He has a girlfriend. Is that surprising? I did think he was rather popular with the girls in Karasuno but no one ever confessed to him.”
“Yeah, because everyone thought the two of you were a couple.” He can’t help his snark and regrets it the moment your eyes widen.
“They did? Why?”
“Because you two were so close. Why wouldn’t we think that?”
He bites his tongue the moment the words are out of his mouth.
You’re frozen in motion, eyes wide, mouth open until you close it with an audible click.
There’s something like understanding in your eyes and he’s ready to grab his drink and leave when you put your hand on his arm.
“Did you think I was dating Ennoshita?”
“Again, why wouldn’t I think that?” He asks but it’s lacking the usual cut of his tone. He just sounds tired now.
You heave a sigh, so deep it seems to come from the bottom of your soul.
“Ennoshita was right after all. I should have confessed to you.”
Now it’s his turn to freeze in his seat and he’s a bit ashamed to say that he forgets to breathe for a moment.
“What?” Is that really his voice speaking?
“Everyone of my girlfriends said that I should wait until the boy makes the first move and looking back, especially after what you’ve told me, they probably had Ennoshita in mind when I was always talking about you. I just… I thought you were interested in me and I was interested in you and I was just hoping you’d confess.”
“I’m sorry.” He says and you shrug.
“We can’t change the past, right?” Something changes in your eyes and he holds his breath, realizing it will probably shake his core again, whatever you’re going to say next.
He’s right.
“So, what do you say?” You cock your head and grin. “Are you free tomorrow? For a date? Just to make sure there are no more misunderstandings?”
-
Kuroo calls him on Saturday and he barely makes it out of his room to accept the call.
“Bad timing?” The older boy asks and TSukishima huffs. “We’re having a watch party, but I’m not missing much. I’ve seen Jurassic Park a million times.”
“Oh, a watch party? So you made some friends?”
“Yeah.”
He leans against the wall next to his door, thinking of the people inside.
Yamaguchi, who’d called to let him know he was done missing him in silence and that he was coming over Saturday, no matter how he felt about it. He was very much okay with that.
Watari, who’d jumped at the idea of a watch party, especially after he heard the name of the chosen movie. “We can point out all the inaccuracies and review at the same time.”
Kyoutani, who’d needed a bit more convincing.
“You know, they say it’s good for team building, but if you’re above that-”
“Yeah, yeah, I’m coming. But I don’t want any mediocre snacks, alright?”
You.
The door opened next to him as he was talking and you squinted at him.
“Everything alright?”
“Yeah, just talking to Kuroo.”
“Oh, alright. Tell him I said hi.” You blow him a kiss and step back inside, leaving him flustered in the halfway.
“Kuroo.” He said, voice hoarse yet again. “You don’t happen to have some advice  for communication in a relationship?”
“Ohohoh?”
“Don’t laugh. I just don’t want to mess this up.” Again, he adds in his mind.
My Kofi if you want to tip me

Being Seijoh’s Manager
Bookworm Manager
Tumblr media
Seijoh x GN! Manager (they/them pronouns)
Warnings: swearing (probably, actually idk)
AN: this is an anon request.
Honestly I think this team is a perfect fit for a manager who loves to read!
They give a certain vibe of class and distinction 😌
And idk if you read romance, action, manga, smut, fantasy, non-fiction, etc
Readers have a certain amount of grace to me
And of course, our precious Yn is the number #1 most graceful 💅
You attend Seijoh and you just happen to be a first year
You never really bothered anyone, never really stood out but you had friends and were a typical student
Perks of being a wallflower 😏
Prepare for book puns and I won’t apologize!
Anyways, you were a typical student who just happened to have class with our favorite aloof wing spiker, Kunimi
Kunimi actually really enjoyed you because you were nice, sweet and pleasant
You never caused drama and while you did have you noise in a book a lot, he’d rather have that than someone gushing over his Senpai 🙄
I totally feel like Kunimi would like reading too so he would probably ask you about your reads, which you happily share
You probably were constantly tired, like him, only you were tired because you stayed up all night reading 😅
During a normal practice, Mattsun and Makki were again teasing Oikawa for being the reason they couldn’t have nice things
Aka a manager
“I can’t help that everyone likes me!” Oikawa whines
“Shut up Shittykawa nobody likes you!” Iwaizumi shouts
Suddenly Kunimi looks over and you appear in the doorway of the gym, eyes locked in a book and holding his math book
He looks at you questionably, which prompts Kindaichi, Yahaba, Watari and Kyotani to do the same thing
He runs past his arguing seniors towards you and greets you kindly
“Hello Yn, did you bring this for me?” He asks as you snap from you book, a wide, adorable smile greeting him
“Yes! I was headed out and I noticed you forgot it so I figured I’d swing by!”
By now, the seniors have noticed you and annoyingkawa is on the move 🙄
“Well hello there and who might you be?” He says but you say nothing
Oikawa clears his throat and tries again, “hello there cutie-chan!”
Again, nothing
Kunimi is holding it together by a thread, Makki and Mattsun are too stunned to speak and Iwaizumi is hella impressed!
“You know it’s rude to ignore you seniors!” Oikawa growled
You snap from your book, eyes locking with his, “oh I’m sorry, this is just a really interesting part, nothing against you personally but it’s kind of important so I’ll be on my way.”
Makki and Mattsun BUST out laughing
Kindaichi, Yahaba, and Watari just stare
Kyotani and Iwa are in awe of your ability to ignore THE Oikawa
“I’ll see you in class tomorrow Akira,” you say, waving at him and walking away
Immediately, Iwa runs up to Kunimi and asks, “does Yn need a club??”
And that, my dear, is how you became the Seijoh’s new manager 🥰
Now at first, you weren’t really super excited about volleyball
I mean, you originally said yes because you needed a club and well, Kunimi was your friend
However you found one perk to the sport
In the form of reading Sports Mangas 😍
Surprisingly it was an excellent way to learn the sport as well as combine it with your love of reading
Even if Manga wasn’t your first choice, you definitely found it easier to learn thought reading gs alternative means
Mainly loserkawa 🙄 who took it upon himself to try and educate you on the sport
It’s literally Lord of the Flies up in here!
“Shittykawa leave Yn alone!!” Iwa shouts as you stand next to Kunimi and Kindaichi
“I’m teaching Yn-Chan the fine art of serving!” Oikawa shouted back
“Umm thanks Oikawa but I think I got it. I read a manga last night and I got the basics down,” you says as Oikawa puts up his hand
“Why read Yn-Chan when you can learn from the greatest?!” He says, tossing up the balls
And slamming it right into the net
You 👉🏻😐
Kunimi and Kindaichi 👉🏻🙄
Makki and Mattsun 👉🏻🤣🤣
Iwaizumi 👉🏻🧑🏻‍🦱🤛🏻
Oikawa 👉🏻 💀
Thankfully your knowledge of volleyball, from reading, you were able to help the boys come up with new skills and tactics to win!
Unfortunately, the skills and tactics didn’t match up against Karasuno, who apparently had developed their own skills
The third years were broken, the second years so upset and the first years disappointed
You couldn’t help but feel awful, like you failed them
On the bus ride home, everyone was quiet as you sat
You wanted to cheer them up but you didn’t know how
Then it came to you, you pulled out your book from your bag
Let’s just say it was one of your new favorites and you began to read out loud to the bus
The boys slowly looked up, listening to your soothing voice as you recited lines perfectly
The entire bus seemed to calm down, the tension disappearing as you continued to read
Once back at school, you stopped reading and prepared to get off the bus
“Wait Yn what happens next?” Kindaichi asks as Kunimi nods
“Come on YN, you can’t really just leave us hanging with that!” Yahaba groaned
“Anyone can see the hero is going to end up victorious as always!” Oikawa chimes in as Iwa smacks him in the back of the head
“Shittykawa shit up!” Iwa said as Mattsun and Makki helped you unload the gear
“You’ll finish reading the story right Yn?” Makki asks as you smile
Of course you will 🥰

Hey I'd like to ask you something. Could you do some Aoba Johsai x reader head canons of how they'd meet her in person and what they'd think of her?
Why yes! Sure thing. I'll give you headcanons of how Aoba Johsai meets y/n! But there'll be some happy and wholesome timeskip moments and some will be very upsetting!
Oikawa Tooru
Oikawa thought you were really bitchy towards him at the first meeting he had.
But at some stage he later on thought about you in a different way that made him think you aren't that bad.
When on Valentine's day you got a river of letters and cards flowers and chocolates.
He didn't like it very much that you were popular amongst the guys at Aoba Johsai.
Especially with you being a third year both third year guys and second years would confess their love to you.
On the day that he remembered when you and Oikawa met he felt ashamed that he was so rude towards you.
He still blames himself.
Timeskip: You stood there next to your husband. Oikawa now thinks back to the sweet memories the two of you have made before you got engaged.
Iwaizumi Hajime
When you met Iwaizumi things just changed. How did you meet Iwaizumi?
Well it was through Oikawa that you met his childhood friend Iwaizumi Hajime.
It was really sweet of Oikawa to do something like that but later through the months you and him spent together.
You never thought you'd fall for Oikawa.. which broke Iwaizumi's heart.
When you announced that you and Oikawa are now dating, things took a real bad turn for Iwaizumi.
Timeskip: At the end you and Iwaizumi were married for four years and three months, you were pregnant by three months when he was in Japan as the Athletic Trainer of Japan's team.
While you were in Argentina at Tooru's apartment, you were four months pregnant.
Matsukawa Issei
When you met Mattsun, well let's just say you fell in love with him and his brown eyes.
You knew you just had a type of guy with black curly hair and brown eyes.
But how did you meet him?
It was during your second year of middle school your school and his had a camping trip.
You got lost at some point in the middle of the forest, how did that happen?
Well… you were chasing a butterfly and not looking if your friends were with you or if you'd gotten yourself lost.
And you did. You panicked but a guy about a bit taller than you with brown eyes came to find you.
Both Iwaizumi and Oikawa were relieved that he found you.
That was your best memory of him when you both were 12 years old. He still remembers that day you cried in their arms after your mind said you're lost!
Timeskip: You and Issei got married at 22 years old. You were 22 while he was 24 years old, they still joke about how he's two years older than you are.
Hanamaki Takahiro
You just graduated middle school when you both met, your mothers were best friends since elementary school.
How? You both never knew how they were friends at a young age like that.
But you remembered asking your mother and she just smiled at you saying figure it out yourself, love and just left you like ???? Which you still don't know.
Then you both got close when you were introduced to him at 3 years old.
You both don't really remember meeting at the age of 3 your mothers do.
Timeskip: Still to this day you both are now the most laughable married couple ever. Everyone thinks when they see you both around that you're the one who's joking with your husband.
When it's Hanamaki all along since you're about five months pregnant with your first child with him.
Yahaba Shigeru
How did you and Yahaba meet?
Well.. at a training camp you both met there.
It's a long story.. Aoba Johsai's setters in training went to this second year setter only training camp and you were there.
Later on, Yahaba had occasional private conversations with you when you weren't busy filling water bottles up for them.
But there is one thing that you do remember about Yahaba Shigeru and that is when you found him talking to a girl.
A girl that he might be dating soon… turns out you misunderstood the situation that had you crying in his arms.
Timeskip: You and Yahaba have been married for a year now, you're only seven months pregnant with your second child, a girl..
Kyoutani Kentarou
When you met Kyoutani it was an entirely different story to be told. He didn't like it when other second year guys talked to you!
No, no, no! They aren't allowed to talk to his GIRLFRIEND! The two of you have been dating in secret for a year and four months now.
None of his teammates knows about him and their manager dating in secret.
It's only been about three months that they still haven't found out yet.
Timeskip: You and Kyoutani have now a healthy happy marriage, your parents first thought of arranging a marriage for you.
But when he jumped in and said why do you want to do that to your beloved sweet daughter? I love her! Even if she knows that I don't show it through emotions but I show it with actions!
Watari Shinji
Really simple actually! You both met during class time, how though?
Well… you were in your second year and you somehow or not really got in the same class as Watari.
But when you started dating Watari things changed for the both of you.
You and him were always so casual with each other soft touches and sweet kisses were always between you both.
Timeskip: Watari knew that this would happen.. you laid there in bed asleep with another man that wasn't him you're married to another.
Kindaichi Yuutarou
With Kindaichi it wasn't all special. You thought meeting him was good news.
But you did bump into Kageyama during the meet up and got ready to see the match between Karasuno vs. Date Tech.
After the match Kageyama called you over to him to talk, he apologized to you after what he said to you in middle school.
You forgave him and he said about some rumuors of Kidaichi which you were shocked about.
Timeskip: When you confronted Kindaichi he said he doesn't know anything about such rumuors and doesn't know what you're babbling about.
Kunimi Akira
Kunimi knew that between you and him things would go the different way around.
Timeskip: When he saw Kindaichi cheating on you he was baffled and didn't want to tell you that your husband is cheating.
You were only six months pregnant with your daughter but the thing is you didn't tell Kindaichi that your daughter isn't his.
But your daughter has Kunimi's eyes and the color of his eyes.
The day that your daughter Aiko was born, Kindaichi was still cheating.
Kunimi was there through and through from when you announced that you're pregnant up until the changes in your pregnancy until she was born.
Right when you found your husband cheating with two women in your bed with him.
You yelled at him to get out and threw his stuff out with him and the women.
In about a month.. Kunimi got married to you and you let him move in with you.
You're now the happiest woman alive to have such a wonderful caring husband who wouldn't cheat on you ever.
There you go! If you have any other hcs you'd want please send some more to me!!

'Love' confession
Manager Miniseries
─Aoba Josai x fem!reader
─Summary: you were just trying to help and the team seems to be at the wrong time to hear something stupid
─Warnings: none
11 < 12 > 13
Tumblr media
"I'm serious! (Nn) is in love with me."
"What makes you think that, shittikawa?"
The captain acted offended, no one on his team believed that their manager was secretly madly in love with him, they had never seen you express any kind of romantic interest in someone before.
"Who wouldn't fall in love with me?"
"Surely a lot of people..."
Kunimi whispered, vaguely wiping the sweat from his forehead, grabbing his gym bag, glancing sideways as Kindaichi finished changing.
"Besides, remember that she didn't even know you before entering the club."
"Matsukawa is right."
"Of course... but since I'm irresistible, it was inevitable that she fell in love with me."
Iwaizumi punch him again and he complained, insisting that you were crazy in love for him. He was so persistent that ended up convincing them to secretly spy on you, since today was Monday they wouldn't have trainning before lunch, so they would have that time to keep an eye on you.
Tumblr media
You always tried to keep a low profile, you were always late, trying not to let anyone notice you enough, you didn't have many friends considered close, but at least you had some trust with your classmates. Since you were very carefree, you didn't mind helping someone who asked, that's why your classmates constantly ask you for some favors, of course they knew when would ask for these, because if you weren't in the mood or were too tired you would politely deny them. And that was exactly what you were doing right now; a favor to a classmate.
"(N) you say it as if it were easy."
"It is?"
You shrugged, stretching out your arms, letting out a yawn, lunchtime was always your nap time to catch up on the sleep you missed at night.
"Could you do it again?"
"Whatever..." you sighed to get into the role of a crazy lover, changing your expression to a more animated one as well as the tone of your voice to a softer one "Oikawa, I love you! would you go out with me?"
There were a few seconds of silence, the girl seemed to analyze the tone of voice, the expression and the gestures that you had made.
"It's just a silly confession of love, don't break your head too much about it."
"It still looks so easy! Surely when you are in front of him you will freeze."
The team who were listening to the conversation from behind the scenes went blank when they heard you two talk about confessing to Oikawa.
"Was that idiot right?"
"I don't believe that (N) is in love with you."
"Yeah, she doesn't deserve that shit."
"You all are so mean"
He complained but everyone fell silent when they saw how you left the classroom, they hid better to continue listening.
"What? I wouldn't freeze confessing."
"Then try to do it."
"What's the point of that? It's you who is in love."
"Aw come on, you can't deny that you like him a little, plus you can always say it was a joke or something… I don't even have the confidence to get close to him."
You sighed, rubbing the bridge of your nose, you didn't want to be the one to break her illusion, but if she needed you to do it first to give her courage, it wasn't a big deal for you.
The boys were totally speechless, of everyone who could fall in love with Oikawa, did it have to be you? They had grown fond of you and appreciated your small gestures even though you were carefree most of the time, and Oikawa's streak of breakups didn't leave him in a good light.
They wouldn't want a crush to spoil your team relationship because of the captain, even Oikawa was stunned, he had suspicions but this was beyond what he thought and he didn't know how to feel about it.
At lunchtime, minutes later when everyone was in the dining room, you arrived as usual later after a little nap, everyone tensed up when you sat down at the table, you seemed unaware of the environment, too focused on your food, only looked up when you finished eating. You narrowed your eyes to see how everyone was looking at you, then remembered that you had to 'confess', yes you had forgotten.
"Ah, Oikawa I have to tell you something." now the looks were more intense, but you paid attention to the fact that the girl from before was stunned to see how you said it casually as if you were greeting someone "I love you, would you go out with me?"
The team seemed to have died, almost as if their spirits flew above their bodies, before anyone could react, you raised your thumbs in the direction where your classmate.
"(Nn) I-I don't want to hurt your feelings, but I think we're not ready for a relationship, I'm not sure about my feelings right now..."
He dramatically placed one hand on his chest and the other on his forehead, blinking several times, you put on a flat face, erasing all false acting expression.
"Yeah... about that I don't really love you, it was only to teach her how she should confess, a silly dare too."
You pointed out to the second year girl that had asked the favor, that now she was a little embarrassed. When they listened to you, the spirits of the team returned to their bodies, relieved, it already sounded very strange that you were in love with Oikawa.
"So you don't like Oikawa?"
"But we heard-!"
"You should listen better or analyze the context of conversations and not spy on people in the first place."
Their souls came out of their bodies again, embarrassed because despite their attempts, they were caught red-handed, although you didn't care much, seeing their horrified faces at they thought that you liked their captain was incredible besides the complaints from Oikawa for being 'rejected' in a certain way.

very un-fire emblem, but since ao3 is down here's some L death note headcanons I was debating posting, hopefully they will benefit the masses in this time of hardship
L and how he thinks about romance:
(tw for slight sexual references and short icky behavior from an unnamed non-canon character but no non con, could be dub con)
- he had a couple puppy loves when he was a kid that he fell way too deep into and had break his heart. he just had trouble understanding the natural flow of relationships, and his standing with others who expected him to keep up with them, so he kept getting left behind
- he's obviously bisexual
- and i think he had a brief thing with another boy when he was an early teen and living at the orphanage
- probably the kind of thing where he felt like he had found his soul mate, and they spent lots of time together trying to make up for how starved for love their lives had been at Whammy's, and then eventually the other boy started to become disgusted with the system, and with L because he was so integral to it the older he got, and neither of them understood any of that, and the other boy broke up with him very unkindly and vanished all in the span of about a week
- L is a little wiser to what was going on behind the scenes now, but even if he had the full explanation, the pain was just so acute, and echoed his recurring experience with abandonment so that thinking about it just solidifies a belief that he's unlovable
- i think when he got into his later teens at the orphanage and started to have a bit of freedom to wander around unsupervised, he also had a brief relationship with an American girl who was on vacation in the area
- and by brief i mean the literal one week that she was in Britain
- she was a bit older than him, almost enough to be icky and certainly old enough to know better than to play with an obviously vulnerable young boy
- she was bored and on vacation so she decided to use him, and again he was totally smitten, poor thing was still just so desperate for companionship that he didn't question a good thing
- he is a genius, but his emotional intelligence just developed slowly cause of trauma:/
- she manipulated him into being physical with her the day before she went home in an alley near the orphanage. they didn't have penetrative sex but they got pretty well acquainted
- she left him immediately after and didn't come back to say goodbye.
- that experience was where his trust allowance ran out, and a few years later after he and Watari began moving around the world, the time and the physical separation from where he grew up helped him understand not to blame himself
- it's actually really lucky that he became a career law enforcer, because it gave him the needed exposure to how much other people straight up suck, and saved him from a lifetime of self-hatred
- his theme is really being self sustainable
- he doesn't have any qualms about his personal worth
- but he also doesn't think he's good enough for other people, so he's learned to live totally without them
- Watari is the exception, because L knows that their relationship is based on Watari needing him for his talent, and he can know quantifiably that he's good enough for that
- i think romance is something he craves even if the lack of it doesn't torture him, but he is truly and literally waiting for the stars to align in the person he chooses; it's something he will never take a risk on again (cough why I'm anti-Lawlight although no disrespect to the ship or it's shippers at all it's just not for me!)
- attraction is easy! he just doesn't trust it a bit.
- his end-game would have to be someone who's known him and Watari for quite a while, who Watari likes, and who has stayed around long enough that their only possible motivation for wanting him can be- well, wanting him
- but once he's found the right one, and he's safe with them, I think he'd be eager to participate in surprisingly traditional romantic gestures, and a good communicator.
- he's awkward as we know, but when comfortable with the person he loves, i think that awkwardness turns into endearing, just non-current mannerisms. like, he's a big kiss his partner's hand kinda guy, which isn't that weird or outdated really but he does it with the intent and reverence with which a knight kisses the hand of a court lady, and he does it because he's gathered his most complete pictures of romance from books and from old movies that i'm sure Watari has made him watch
- 10/10, perfect baby angel of a man, the geneva war crimes are a part of him and I'VE decided they're funny

hello, i hope ur alright. i was wondering what u think Ls relationship to watari is, like how does he view him/how does he feel about him? thank u
I’m alive so that’s a plus.
Sometimes colleges do this thing where they pay kids to take drugs for money or sit in rooms to do social experiments for money. Sometimes those go on overnight, and they’ll be provided a place to sleep and some food so that the scientists running the experiment can see how the subject reacts to different stimuli. If you asked one of these subjects if they trusted the doctors to any meaningful extent, the reaction you would get would probably be one of confusion; they may trust the doctor in the sense that they believe that they will feed them throughout the experiment and in the sense that they probably won’t let them die while they are there, but there would still be a great deal of dissonance on a personal level. Their well-being is only as important to the doctors as its impact on their experiment.
So too with Watari. Watari runs his orphanage mainly to try and 100% the child-rearing thing, to raise the best and most accomplished kid possible and recreate it. His success is based on how successful his charges end up being, and L happens to be a charge so successful that his name is known the world over. L trusts him to the extent that he believes Wammy will stick around to see the experiment through. He trusts him to provide him with food and a computer and help with organizing, but if he was going through any sort of emotional turmoil he would never think to go to Watari about it. He’s a strange man who took him when he was seven and let him eat cake in his room with an unmonitored computer for days at a time, who allowed him to isolate himself from everyone else and spend weeks awake in a blank white room with no bed. Even if it weren’t for the backstory I have thought up for him, he would be able to identify that as neglectful the minute he started looking into laws pertaining to children. Watari does not care about him. Watari would like to see how far L can go on before something happens and wants everything he did on record so that he can recreate his happy accident. Watari believes him to be so expendable that he has two other Ls lined up in the event that he dies; to consider him a father would be exceptionally naive.
In all fairness L minds much. He had a father. His father was okay. He knew it was strange to go with Watari when he did. He would be a bit more weirded out if he was not as cold as he is towards him. He cares about Watari to the extent he cares about him, so it works out.

If Rouge was being honest, he didn't know if dressing up as a prisoner for Halloween was the brightest idea considering the fact that he's knee-deep in debt. The black and white clothes earned him a few comments along the lines of: trying out your new outfit already?
To which he would respond with: "Does it look good on me?"
Still, he thought it was a convenient outfit that he threw together last minute—turning one of his collars into a chained one was easy enough with the help of a little magic. The other chains wrapped around his wrists, however, he decided to borrow from former drinking buddies.
"Sooo… What do you think?" He stuck out his tongue, contorting his expression to mimic a rough criminal. It didn't last long though, he quickly crumbled into a fit of laughter as he threw his hair over his shoulder while shooting you a wink. "Will you give me a treat or do you want me to trick you?"
You laughed at his playful demeanor and his unserious question. He was as carefree as ever, acting as fickle as the wind. You couldn't help but want to paint his expression with something else instead—criminals often have blood on their hands or faces, right?
You thought that red might suit him in this costume. So you took a piece of unwrapped candy, tugged on the chain attached to his collar to pull him down. He looked at you wide-eyed, about to speak as he opened his mouth but you quickly put the candy in his mouth before he could. Your finger lingering on his lips for longer than it should.
"A treat from me."
The blood that rushed to his face in that moment was enough to make you think that it completed his whole look.
— ADEL!
He can't fathom how he let himself get roped into an event completely unrelated to him and his work by Merryrose, no less. He always mentioned that most costumes he would see around this time were terrible attempts that they flaunted around. He told his guild that if he cared a little bit more, he'd make costumes that would outshine everything else.
Unfortunately for him, he didn't have the chance to say anything when he got dragged into the square dressed up like a wolf. Clad in orange and fur—he thought that it was absolutely ridiculous that he let himself wear something like this. The fact that he was wearing ears, too, made it worse.
"What? You're not gonna ask for a treat?" You tilted your head, fighting the urge to tease him endlessly. He threw his head back, sighing and looked at you with tired eyes. No words left his lips but you knew that he was annoyed with you. After all, you were the one who suggested the costume.
"Do you have any idea how ridiculous I look?" He complained, "If I had my way, I'd be looking much more regal than this. Actually, I wouldn't be here in the first place."
You placed your hands on his shoulders, donning a smile as you gave him a light squeeze as a way to soothe his irritable state. "Now, now. You're here so you should make the most out of it! I'd love it if you got into your role and acted like a big bad wolf."
Surely, you said that to tease him but he was feeling spiteful.
He grabbed your wrist—earning a gasp from you—and brought it closer to his mouth. It was fake but he bared his fangs and pressed it gently against your skin as he looked at you with narrowed eyes. It wasn't sharp, it didn't hurt, but it made your heart beat faster than ever.
"If I were to act like a big bad wolf, as you say, then should I gobble you up right here right now?"
He wasn't enjoying himself much but after seeing the expression you made after his little display, he thought to himself that maybe coming down here was worthwhile after all.
— MERRYROSE!
Knowing Merry, he wouldn't pass up the opportunity to go down to the square and extort free candy from the people in town just by dressing up as a wicked witch who loved to curse people who passed by. He got into the role too much with the way he was acting but he enjoyed himself, especially since he managed to get all the candy he wanted.
Finally, it was your turn to fall victim to his favorite question for the night. He cocked his head to the side, shooting you a wink and held up his wicker basket. "Trick or treat?"
"You clearly have enough candy for tonight as is." You shook your head, refusing to give him any candy after seeing how full his basket was. "You should leave more room for the others, you've had your fill."
He frowned, raising an eyebrow in question to your rejection. He was acting like a bratty witch who was denied of something he really wanted—he was getting too into the role when he asked you, "so you're fine with this witch giving you a little trick then?"
"A trick? You really want candy that badly?" You laughed at his question but Merryrose was already taking a few steps towards you with a small mischievous smile decorating his face. You took a few steps back for every step he took until he grabbed your wrist and pulled you closer to him.
"I'll place a curse on you." He leaned in to whisper to your ear, his lips ghosting over your ear. "A curse that'll make you hopelessly in love with me."
Out of embarrassment, you pushed him away and shook your head as you tried to hide your flustered expression. "Stop that! You already know that your curse doesn't work on me."
Merryrose broke character and let out a giggle, shooting you a wide grin before replying. "Yeah, and it should stay that way. I'll make you fall in love with me without the help of stupid curses."

♡ When you two first met, you took the initiative and approached him. L of course, did not trust you right away. Having his parents abandon him as a small child gave him severe trust issues and the only person he trusts is Watari. However, as time goes on, and this will take a very long time, he will reveal things about himself to you little by little. It is his way of testing the waters and loosening up in your presence. Once he decides he can trust you though, his faith in you will be unshakable. When you're finally in a relationship, you'll know who he really is. (By this I mean the fact he's the world's top detective)
♡In terms of showing/giving you affection, L is probably not going to be passionate and horny right away. In fact, he'll probably only hug or kiss you if he's absolute 100% sure you want or need it. More likely, he'll try to show he likes you by making you a priority in example, he'll make time to see you (this probably goes without saying but the no. 1 detective is a busy person who can't go hangout very often). In unexpected times, he'll admit how important you are to him and/or the qualities he adores about you. He doesn't necessarily do this to surprise you, it's just how he is. Most of your dates will take place indoors because L likes it better that way. If you're ever having a problem, he's going to solve that no matter what it takes, and sacrifices he would have to make.
♡When he takes you to Wammy's House, you are able to be like a big sister to the children there. L will entrust you to take care and guide them. He would do this with the perspective of having you be able to help him decide on the one to be successor as well.
♡Something that changes when you two are in a relationship is that your cooking (be it good, mediocre, or even if it's bad) will become L's favorite food.
(That's about it for now, I'm having a sleepless night and I needed to get this down. I might create a part 2 if I come up with other ideas)
I hope you liked it. ◕⩊◕✨

If L ever had a lover/soulmate and was discovered by Light, what countermeasures might L do?
Thank you for the question, dear anon!
This one's a really interesting one and I had to do some research in order to give you a well rounded response based on canon (mostly the manga, but also with a dash of extended DN lore). I'll add my own conclusions on the specific lover/soulmate case as we go.
I'll preface this analysis by saying that, if we take Spiraling Trap into account, then L's lover would be of extreme importance to them, if not the most important person in L's life — perhaps even above Watari. One of his sweetest quotes from the dating sim actually alludes to this state of mind:
For your sake… I’d think of a way to get through anything. We share a bond.
If L had a lover, he would very much be smitten. Despite all his flaws, his sometimes complicated, hyper-focused behaviour, he would dearly cherish this bond and do everything to keep it.
It's important that we look at L's thought process here as the opposite of what he did with Kira. While L gradually de-anonymizes Light before the world, he would progressively anonymize his lover so as to keep them safe. It might not be to the degree that he made himself to be a ghost, a letter on a screen, but it would be a pretty thorough process to minimise any fallout.
Now, L would take his lover's safety as a constant, high priority task. I imagine he'd be paranoid to the point that he would often run hypothetical scenarios where he'd assume the role of a criminal and try to find information about his lover.
These would range from medical records to high school grades, primary school pictures, etc. He would know exactly what kind of data about his lover was available to the public — and where to find it, in digital or physical form. Do they have family? Pets? Friends that could be tracked or paid to talk? He'd be on top of all this and investigate it through the several angles of cryptography and computer security.
When the Kira case starts gaining prominence, I imagine he would take the utmost care to delete all sensitive information pertaining to his lover from public records, though he might keep actual medical records safely encrypted somewhere only he could access. As for records stored at, say, school, in physical form — like a CD — he would likely have Watari steal them so they could be destroyed. I don't believe he would ask anyone other than Watari for this task, as that could raise unwelcome questions from a third party.
L's greatest fear would be that Kira might kill his lover. Given how secretive he is, perhaps the only way that Light might gain access to such information would be if L allowed his lover to accompany him during the case. Just like L protects Watari, Aiber and Wedy's identity, he would likely never introduce his lover as his actual lover; rather, he would make up a fake name for them and a role. I also imagine he would struggle with the decision of bringing them along and might've acquiesced because a) he wants them nearby or b) they've left him no choice because they want to keep L safe (and be supportive in whatever way they can, depending on their background and profession).
So, in this scenario (manga, again), Light would need to meet L's lover sometime between the months April-November 2004 and figure out who they really are. It would almost give L a heart attack (pun intended); he would blame himself for his recklessness, backtrack every move, run scenarios to make sure Light couldn't find anything to kill them. After Rem appears, L would absolutely forbid them from being near Misa.
Beyond this, there isn't much that L could do at this point. Short of bringing Kira to justice, the most he can do is prevent his lover's personal information from being handed to Light on a silver platter. He may remove his lover from the case entirely if they were discovered, though. But he would definitely plot to cut any loose ends that'd bring Light straight to their lover's private sphere.
There's also a chance that Light would kidnap L's lover and torture them for information, but it's highly unlikely.
However, I'd like to ask the following question: what does L do to protect himself and those closest to him in canon?
01: There are no photos or images of L anywhere, especially at To-Ho
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From: Chapter 28 - Judgment
One of the things that immediately jumps to attention is how secretive (and well prepared) L is under any scenario. During this particular moment in the main story, we witness L's caution when it comes to allowing others to keep any photos or video records related to him, going as far as instructing the Task Force to destroy all photos of themselves. In essence, he wants them to erase any and all images that can lead to the Second Kira identifying them to avoid their murders. Their digital footprint or social media (what was even Japan's version of MySpace in 2004?) should be gone as a security measure.
We also discover that L goes to the trouble of deactivating the security cameras at the hotels he's at so they don't capture his image. It's a huge stretch, but a necessary evil when you're L, the world's greatest detective, always one step away from being killed by criminals.
What about L's love interest/soulmate?
As mentioned before, L would make sure that his lover's information would be hidden or removed from public access. This would give him a head start to protect them from Light (and Misa), as the only way they'd be able to get the lover's name would be through the Shinigami Eyes or by parting with the information voluntarily (like Naomi Misora did).
Like L, they would also not have their image recorded when moving around hotels. I can imagine that they would also leave through the hotel garage or back door in order to avoid bumping into undesirable individuals.
02: Watari, Aiber and Wedy are anonymized — until L's death (and Watari's)
Tumblr media
From: Chapter 59 - Zero
Arguably, one of L's biggest mistakes towards Aiber and Wedy was leaving their personal information available for the Task Force in case he died. I assume that the "All data deletion" protocol was solely regarding the case itself, and that there were branches of information that Light acquired after L's death which were not meant to be seen aside from himself.
There might've been other criminals whom associated with L that Light killed. My educated guess is that L would've been more careful with his lover's personal information and had it deleted along with crucial data about the case. In case he died and they lived, he would've taken that precaution. Both Near and Mello also have no photographs of themselves available at Wammy's (or in any record).
03: And as a small bonus of L caring about his associates...
Tumblr media
From: Chapter 43 - Black
Utilitarian L may be, but he's not a robot devoid of feelings. He does care about his associates and seems to be on good terms with Aiber. With how careful he is those who work for him, I'm positive he would climb mountains to keep his lover safe from harm — especially if danger came in the shape of Light.
Hope this answered your question somewhat!

Kotaro Watari
^°•^°•^°•^°•^°•^°•^°•^°•^°•^°•^°•^°•^°
Definitely does face mask with you and if someone ( especially if it's Onagawa ) were to walk in he would start an argument about how they are manly
He bought you a headband like his but in your favorite color
If your also a manager for the team he will send you a wink before the performance but if you aren't then he will make sure to always buy you a ticket. And whenever you do he gives you his green jacket
And if your ears are pierced then he buys you both matching earrings
If he ever sees anyone looking at you for to long or hitting on you he's gonna start screaming and throwing hands 🤦
If your ever sick he's 100% going to cook for you and be the best boyfriend ever.
On the topic of cooking he would ask you to try it.
Even though he has that short tempered attitude and his intimidating look he is extremely kind to those he cares about including you
Occasionally takes you to his family's ramen shop
Kotaro goes red like redder then a fucking tomato when ever you kiss him or hold his hand
Not a day goes by that you have to hold back Watari from Onagawa because he teased Watari
He's really like really loyal to you.
He loves it if you were to watch the random fighting movies he rents or just randomly has

Kidnapped
Manager Miniseries
─ Aoba Josai x fem!reader + Shiratorizawa
─ Summary: your friend insists that they have a practice match with your team and Oikawa is exaggerating
─ Warnings: none
5 < 6 > 7
Tumblr media
The Shiratorizawa men's volleyball team was at the house of their beloved great ace, apart from doing a study session they decided to meet to talk about new techniques to win the tournament and go to Tokyo. Everyone was concentrated until the doorbell rang, the mother of the family opened by happily greeting the newcomer.
"What a surprise to see you here! I haven't seen you in a long time. What brings you here, honey?"
"Well..." you scratched the back of your neck, averting your gaze "my parents wanted me to come by, also to see if Toshi could help me with some issues."
"I was just going to leave, but Wakatoshi is in his room studying, he will gladly help you."
"Thank you, have a good day Mrs. Ushi"
"You too sweetie."
You entered the house saying goodbye to the owner, knowing that you would be alone before going to the room, you went to the kitchen to get a package of cookies. Your parents had forced to go so that Ushijima could help you study mathematics —a subject in which you were disgusting— knowing that he was a good student as well as that their families were very close. You walked unhurriedly to the well-known room, you entered as if were your own house, throwing on the bed without realizing that you practically crushed a boy. A boy who was clearly not your friend.
"Hey Tosh-"
You choked on the cookies when saw how there were more boys in the room, and to top it off, one of them was trying to get you off of him.
"Uh, sorry about that."
The poor black-haired man shook his head nervously and frantically as you backed away from him, muttering more apologies for putting him in such a situation.
"I-It's okay!"
Thunderous laughter filled the room, a redhead laughing tearfully as he watched the bowl cut boy grow more agitated by the second.
"(N) what are you doing here?"
“I need help with math, you know..." you played down the importance, brushing the crumbs off your shirt "but if you're busy I can come back another day."
"Wait, wait, Ushiwaka knows a cute girl?"
"Tendou, don't make those comments as if she wasn't here."
A boy with gray hair and darker tips scolded the redhead who teased him calling him 'semisemi mom' for scolding him, you ignored the small verbal fight in the background focusing on your friend.
"No problem, we are also studying, I will help you with your homework."
"Thanks Toshi, I promise to make it up to you."
While you were studying, everyone introduced themselves, the red-haired Tendou was undoubtedly the opposite of Wakatoshi, which you found funny, plus Goshiki was too adorable but just as intense as your friend, there was a mother here too, Semi, and they even had a sarcastic named Shirabu.
It was a curious group without a doubt. When the team finished their homework they started talking about volleyball, leaving you to concentrate on making derivatives and matrices. You sighed pulling some strands back, you couldn't concentrate so stopped for a while to look at your phone, it had been vibrating for a while, they were just messages from your team, you just left them on read to look at Ushijima who had his eyes on your figure for a few seconds ago.
"Is something wrong Toshi?"
"Yes." the whole team paid attention to their captain "I want a practice match against Seijoh."
Everyone seemed confused —even you— but of course, the others didn't know that you were the manager of the volleyball club, because you had only talked a little and about studies, but you thought that Ushijima wouldn't want to have a practice with your team when they always had won.
"You are their manager, right?"
"Yes, but today they don't have practice."
"Hey, hey, the cute girl also knows about volleyball, now I understand why you like her!"
"I... I don't like (N)." he cleared his throat. "So when could we have a match?"
"Well, if you want I can talk to them now, maybe they don't care."
"It will be good for us to try new things."
"Yes, we will defeat them!"
"Don't get so excited about that bowl boy, it's just a practice game."
Tendou laughed at Shirabu's comment, no doubt Goshiki and he didn't have the best relationship, but it was fun to hear the second year's sarcastic comments while the first year tried to return the comments to no avail.
"Huh? But I like his hair..."
You approached to be able to remove the black locks, noticing how he became rigid as a rock and his face exploded with pink tones, you decided to stop for his health, you would swear you could hear Goshiki's heart about to explode.
"I also want caresses!"
"Hmm if you insist…" you shrugged your shoulders to caress the redhead's head "wow why is your hair so soft?"
Tumblr media
"(Nn)!"
Oikawa desperately ran towards you when he saw how you entered the gym together with Shiratorizawa's team —specifically, you were talking animatedly with Semi and Yamagata— quickly grabbing you to take along with your team.
"Are you okay? Have they done something to you? I won't let them kidnap you again."
"They have not kidnapped me, besides they are nice."
"It can't be, surely they are extorting you! Blink if you are in danger." He whimpered moving you from one side to the other, then you blinked but not because of your captain's request "Iwa-chan, they are harassing our pretty (Nn)!"
"Shut up Shittykawa, you need to blink to live, idiot."
"Ow, that hurts Iwa-chan."
You walked away ignoring the small argument between friends, leading the rival team to the locker room so they could change into their sports clothes.
"Hey (N) are they always like this?"
"Yeah, but I guess it's okay, it's funny."
Tendou laughed taking you by the shoulders as you walked back to the court, this action did not go unnoticed in the eyes of the Seijoh boys who glared at the interaction their manager had with the middle blocker, that only made Tendou become more attached to you.
"You could stop irritating the rival team."
Semi looked at how his partner had fun seeing the faces that the others made, rolling his eyes, he went to warm up without wanting to be part of the scene, he wouldn't be part of the redhead's game.
"(N) can you hug me? It sure brings me luck in the match!"
He spread his arms with a catlike smile, narrowing his eyes in amusement at seeing his attentive rivals like owls, causing him to chuckle as he robbed their manager in a thinly veiled manner.
"Sure, why not?"
You shrugged your shoulders without giving it much importance —for you all kinds of hugs were well received— Tendou also took the opportunity to quickly kiss your cheek as a farewell, that's when he completely angered the Aoba Jōsai team, he couldn't hug you as if nothing had happened you were their manager. Unintentionally someone —Kunimi— threw a ball towards the head of a certain blocker, although the ball landed on your head because you were just separating from the hug.
"Oww…" you touched the affected part with a grimace, searching for the culprit, everyone gasped looking at Kunimi, who seemed to want to disappear at that very moment "Kunimi, if you wanted a hug, just tell me."
Tumblr media
Bonus
You had insisted on cleaning the gym by yourself for making them train on a day they shouldn't have, they reluctantly agreed, leaving you alone, or so you thought, because a certain imperturbable boy was waiting for you to accompany you home like a true hunk.
"Toshi, I thought you had already left."
He denied watching you keep the key to the place, arms folded, patiently waiting for his friend to finish closing the gym.
"I'll walk you home."
"It wasn't necessary, but thanks."
You two were silent for a few minutes until Ushijima cut it off, looking at you with a certain sparkle in his eyes, he stopped causing you to stop walking as well.
"(N)" you looked at him with a raised eyebrow "I want a hug too."
You laugh internally observing the serious face of your friend to wrap him in a warm hug, he was a big baby.
