Okay, so has anyone else done the math RE Ozpin? :(

It's very much canon that he's the youngest of the headmasters, which would seem to include Ironwood. So, taking that and doing the math, he died at about 38-39. Team STRQ were at Beacon circa 20 years ago, and he was head then. That implies he was headmaster at eighteen at the oldest.

Now, nobody in their right mind would give an academy to a teenager unless there were some very heavy extenuating circumstances, and only Ozma would count as extenuating enough, IMO.

The problem with that is that it's established canon that the melds usually take years and years to come to fruition. I don't think 'this teenager who the last king of vale speaks through sometimes' would be enough, which in turn means that Oz was... very, very young. As young as Oscar? Maybe. Or maybe younger.

And everybody waiting for the next incarnation would be expecting another warrior, a leader, a hero right from the get go. And so, of course, when tiny little Ozpin shows up, probably with a limp, they blame him for *being* young, inexperienced. Useless. Which he internalises, truly believing it's all his fault.

Ironwood tried to kill Oscar to get a different Oz... how many tried to do the same to Ozpin, I wonder? Wouldn't help with the trust issues in the slightest.

So here you have young Oz, with the weight of all of Remnant on his too slender shoulders, being told 'you need to do this' 'The king would have done that' 'Why aren't you more like our friend?'

He doesn't break, yet, but that causes fractures. Team STRQ helps slightly, in that for all intents and purposes it was probably a five man team. Oz uses magic enough to seem older, [the hair, those glasses...] but I suspect only Qrow was actually fooled.

(My suspicion is that young Oz had a heavy crush on Summer, but that's incidental right now beyond the fact that that doesn't really help his mental state when Oscar crushes on Ruby.)

He turns Raven and Qrow into birds as much to give them the freedom of flight as to have spies, and the choice of bird seems too hilarious for a magical teenager to pass up. He's very close friends with all four of them, and tells them a lot. Not everything, but a lot. And then Summer dies/disappears, Raven leaves, Tai retires... Qrow starts drinking... the closest thing he actually had to a team, to friends, shatters.

Salem continues not to make a move, he buries himself in his work, locks himself away. Then Beacon falls, he dies in a way that's still not fully known, but probably in exchange for Cinder Fall not going after anyone else, because, again, Oz thinks the state of Remnant rests solely on his shoulders.

Do you blame him, really? For not sharing everything, for trying to keep a little bit of hope alive? Because I don't.

Also, the image of a tiny Ozpin, about ten at most with a ratty teddy tucked under one arm and Long Memory in the other is heartbreaking. 'Oz? I don't wanna lose ME.'

Genuinely, what happened to “feminism is for everyone”?

That’s the feminism I grew up with: encouraging people to recognize that fighting sexism and restrictive gender roles helps folks of every gender. We’d push back on the idea that feminists hate men, pointing to inclusive feminist literature and how many men are feminists.

Now, there are so many people insisting that the solution to patriarchy is to openly hate and ostracize men no matter what. Why? What is the benefit? It’s certainly not effective in fighting oppressive structures to exclude half the population from your cause on the basis of immutable traits. It may feel cathartic to say horrible things about men and try to punish them for your frustrations with patriarchy. But the only actual effect I see is the increasing right-wing radicalization of young men, who are being told that the left hates them for the way they were born and presented with an abundance of proof that it’s true.

Why are we going back to treating men and women as different species? It doesn’t fix things to say “well women are the good gender and men are the bad one” this time. If you sincerely want to dismantle sexism, you’re going to have to unpack and let go of all sex and gender essentialism—even that which considers women inherently pure and men inherently immoral.

SO. I WATCHED YOUNG JUSTICE. Red Hooded Ninja I need you so bad...... did some more scribbling to cope o(-( Very upset that they did not further elaborate on him / Jason Todd before cancelling the show?? At least. that's what I read everywhere. When Senshi was young in the dungeon the majority of the adults he were with ostracized him. All except Gillin, who died to make sure Senshi had something to eat: unseasoned boiled meat that may or may not have been one of their comrades.

It really puts into perspective why he was so nurturing towards Chilchuck. When Chil reveals he’s 28 to the party, Senshi responds by telling him that he thought he was older. Senshi was in his 30s when he and his comrades got trapped in the dungeon, so it’s safe to assume that he thought Chil was at a similar age.

He met a young boy who was, from his perspective, forced to do dangerous work in the dungeon just like he was, and so, Senshi made an effort to look after Chilchuck in the same way Gillin looked after him.

Mind you, when Senshi was young in the dungeon he had to starve for weeks, eat the horse he loved, and finish it off spending the next i don’t know how many years wondering if he committed cannibalism.

Senshi understands first hand the value of nutrition and proper eating, so when he’s with the party he makes an effort to make sure they’re all eating a full and balanced diet. Not only that, but Senshi INVOLVES them in the process of getting food to eat, always preparing it in front of them and narrating every ingredient in the process so that there’s no doubt about what they’re eating.

my mom was saying that I'm pretty unlucky when it comes to cat health, but I was saying that a lot of folk have issues like mine, it's just that they don't deal with them and then the cat dies.

she said "that's not true at all," and I had to list how many cats my aunt and uncle have burnt through in the same time I've had Pangur and Grim. and then I talked about an old friend who would never even name her kittens, because they always died within the first year. and of friends who've watched their cats deteriorate without going to the vet, while saying "there's nothing I can do." in mainstream culture, cat death is normal and invisible. it's just that a lot of time the cat dies outside of the house (whether through illness, accident, or predation) so people get to maintain deniability.
