Craziest thing happened today while I was out driving, by the way: I saw a puppy cross the road. And then I saw a second puppy. And then a third. And then a FOURTH.
Me: “WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!”
Hopped out of my car.
All out neighborhood chase ensued with other drivers who also stopped. Dogs finally gathered in someone’s yard while I called animal control. But we had a couple near runover situations. Poor doggies had absolutely no survival instincts. 😩

Mighty HONOR X9b 5G tested in a rough Ultra-Tough Challenge in Rizal, to arrive on January 12
Are you ready to meet the toughest phone in the market on January 12? Watch it live on
HONOR Philippines is all set for the arrival of the toughest phone in the market to date, the HONOR X9b 5G. The successor of the viral HONOR X9a 5G will be officially launched on January 12, live on Facebook: https://bit.ly/FB_X9b_Pressrelease at 7PM!
Tumblr media
Prior to its highly anticipated launch, HONOR Philippines dared its esteemed media partners to an Ultra Tough Challenge camp where they put the extremely durable smartphone to a series of tests.
It is seen to endure a car runover with a heavyweight Hummer as well as an intense smash test relay where participants smashed as many thick tiles as they could in 30 seconds. Guests aimed for the ultra-tough display of HONOR X9b 5G in a competitive paintball, sparring and archery contests. Lastly, HONOR X9b 5G was proven to survive a 50-ft Drop Test! And the question remains. Can it survive a 100-ft drop? Tune in on January 12!
“HONOR X9b 5G has been proven durable as the device was carefully studied and has undergone three tempering processes and we are sure that it can surpass the success of its predecessor. Advice for the public though, while we are confident that it will survive intense pressure, intentional dropping and smashing might still cause physical damage to the phone,” said HONOR Philippines Vice President Stephen Cheng.
The HONOR X9b 5G features a 120Hz curved AMOLED screen and a micron-sized gap structure to ensure a 360° drop resistance. It also comes with a 108MP main camera, 5MP ultra-wide camera, and 3x zoom for high-quality zoomed shots. This is boosted by its Ultra-durable Battery that has a capacity of 5800 mAh, promising a worry-free user experience with full-day battery life.
Tumblr media
All these and more will be revealed on January 12, 2024 at 7:00 PM. HONOR fans and tech aficionados can only expect groundbreaking technology with the arrival of the HONOR X9b 5G. Watch the live event here: https://bit.ly/FB_X9b_Pressrelease.

k-drama rec list
Prior to 2020 I’d maybe watched 2 k-dramas in my entire life, but this year I got sucked in, thanks to some great recs, and y’know, *gestures * everything.
I think I’d held off watching kdramas because my impression of them was limited to romances that I didn’t enjoy at all. But this was the year I discovered the equivalent of “gen fic” kdrama- dramas that had wonderful ensemble casts, strong story lines that weren’t entirely romance focused and also a variety in terms of themes and styles. A big plus was that I found so many of these dramas had women leading the writers’ room, and seeing the effect of that in the story telling. (Notable exceptions: a certain “star” writer who should please stop inflicting her badly written, formulaic crap on the world, yes Kim Eun-Sook, I mean you, and whoever wrote that trashfire Flower of Evil)
So here I am with my own rec list! Caveat- these are mostly not the dramas released in 2020, I’m still playing catch up! :)
Under the cut for length
My Mister/ My Ahjussi  (2018, Written by Park Hae-Young, Directed by Kim Won-Seok, starring Lee Sun-kyun and Lee Ji-eun aka IU)
This was definitely my absolute favourite of the shows I watched this year across western/ asian media. It’s a story about the thread that binds us all and the ineffability of human connection. It’s also a story that deconstructs ideas of masculinity and honour and shame in a non-western context, but with an extremely compassionate touch.  It’s a story that doesn’t shy away from showing the consequences of material and spiritual poverty; and how one can so easily feed into the other. It’s a love story that isn’t a romance, except that it’s a Romance. It’s about finding salvation in one another and in the kindness of strangers.  It’s about choosing life, and picking yourself up off the floor to take that one last step and then the next and then the next. The one quibble I have with the series is that it could have been better paced, it does get extremely slow after the half way mark. But god, do they land the ending. Both Lee Sun-kyun and IU turn in absolutely heartbreaking performances, and fair warning, be prepared to go through an entire box of tissues watching this series.
Tumblr media
Life  (2018,  written by Lee Soo-yeon  and directed by Hong Jong-chan, starring Lee Dong-wook, Cho Seung-woo, Won Jin-ah, Lee Kyu-hyung, Yoo Jae-myung and Moon So-ri.)
Medical dramas are very much not my thing, and I wouldn’t have taken a chance on it except that @michyeosseo said I should, and she was right! It’s a medical drama in the sense that it’s set in a hospital, but rather than a “case-fic” format, this is actually a sharp commentary on the corporatization of health care, and the business of mixing, well, money and what should be a fundamental human right. Writer Lee Soo-yeon was coming off the global success of Stranger/Secret Forest S1 when this aired, so I understand that expectations were probably sky-high, and people were disappointed when this show didn’t give them the adrenaline rush that they wanted. On the other hand, I thought that this outing was really much more nuanced in terms of the politics and also how the ending doesn’t allow you the luxury of easy-fixes. This show has a great ensemble cast, and while it took me a while to get used to Lee Dong-wook’s woodenness (i ended up calling him mr.cadaver after watching this and was surprised to learn that he’s very popular?), in the end I was quite sold on his version of angry angst-bucket elder-sibling Dr.Ye Jin-woo. His best scenes were with Lee Kyu-hyung who turns in a lovely, achy performance as the paraplegic Dr. Ye Seon-woo who just wants to live a normal life. The love story between the two brothers is actually the emotional backbone of the story, and I think they landed that perfectly.
My one quibble with writer-nim is that she ended up writing in a forgettable and somewhat (for me at least) uncomfortable romance between the characters played by Won Jin-ah and Cho Seung-Woo. I think part of my uncomfortable-feeling was that I got the strong sense that the writer herself didn’t want to write this romance, it was as if she was being made to shoe-horn it in for Studio Reasons, and she basically grit her teeth and did the worst possible job of it.  I do wish we could have absolutely had the OT3 of my dreams: Moon So-ri/Cho Seung-woo/Yoo Jae-myung like, c’mon TV gods MAKE IT HAPPEN, just...look at them!!!!
Anyway, that apart, I think this was a very engaging series, and by engaging, I also mean thirst-enabling, see below.
Tumblr media
Stranger (aka Secret Forest  or Forest of Secrets) S1 & 2 : (2017-, Written by Lee Soo-yeon, directed by
2017′s smash hit aired a much anticipated second season in 2020, and I managed to catch up just in time to watch that live, so that was thrilling :D . Writer Lee Soo-yeon  mixes up thriller/office comedy/political commentary in an ambitious series. I think S1 is more “exciting” than S2 in terms of the mystery and pacing,  but S2 is far more dense and interesting in terms of political commentary because it takes a long hard look at institutional corruption and in true writer-nim fashion doesn’t prescribe any easy solutions. Anyway, please enjoy public prosecutor Cho Seung-woo and police officer Bae Doona as partners/soulmates kicking ass and taking names in pursuit of Truth, Justice and just a goddamn peaceful meal, along with a stunningly competent ensemble cast. Also yes, Han Yeo Jin is a lesbian, sorry, I don’t make the rules.
Tumblr media
Search: WWW  (2019, Written by Kwon Do-Eun, directed by Jung Ji-hyun & Kwon Young-il, starring  Im Soo-jung, Lee Da-hee, Jeon Hye-jin)
GOD. Where do I start? +1000 for writer Kwon Do-Eun saying “fuck the patriarchy” in the most grandiose way possible, i.e. absolutely refusing to acknowledge that it exists. Yes, this is that power fantasy, and it’s also a fun, slice-of-life  tale about three women navigating their way through work, romance, national politics and everything in between. It’s true that I wasn’t entirely sold on the amount of time spent on the romance, and I really wish they’d actually had a textual wlw romance, though the subtext through the entire series is PRACTICALLY TEXT. But still, it maintains that veneer of plausible deniability and I think queer fans who are sick of that kind of treatment in media have a very valid grouse against the show. On the other hand, personally I felt that the queer-platonic vibe of the show is very wonderful and true to real life, and it was only reinforced by the ending. This is a show written by a woman for women (like me), and it shows.
Tumblr media
Hyena  (2020, Written by Kim Roo-Ri, directed by Jang Tae-yoo & Lee Chang Woo, starring  Kim Hye-soo and Ju Ji-hoon )
Those of you who’ve been watching hit zombie epic Kingdom are probably familiar with Ju Ji-hoon’s brand of sexiness already. I had not watched Kingdom and got hit in the face by Mr.Sexy McSexyPants’ turn as a brash, privileged-by-birth, up and coming lawyer who gets completely runover by the smoking hot and incredibly dangerous fellow lawyer/competitor from the other side of the tracks in the person of Kim Hye-Soo. When I say they set the room on fire, I mean it, ok. Every single scene between these two is an actual bonfire of sexual attraction and emotional hand grenades, and they’re both absolutely riveting to watch. “Flower of Evil” wishes they had what this show has- an actual grown up romance as opposed to a thirteen year old twilight fan’s idea of an adult romance.
The “lawyer” shenanigans and the “cases” are hit or miss, and I think the occasional comedy fell flat for me. But that’s not why I mainlined like 6 episodes of this series overnight like a coke addict, and that’s not why you’re going to do it either. It’s so RARE, even in these enlightened days to find a female character like Jung Geum-ja: hard as nails, unapologetic about it, and not punished by the narrative for it. The best part for me is that she feels like a woman’s woman, not a man’s idea of what a Strong Female Character should be. Anyways, when I grow up I want to have what Kim Hye-soo has ok?
Tumblr media
Other dramas that I watched this year, quickly rated:
The King: Eternal Monarch (3/10 and those 3 points are only for the combined goodness of second leads who deserved better- Jung Eun Chae, Woo Do Hwan and Kim Kyung Nam. Please head over to my AO3 and read my attempts to fix this garbage fire and rescue their characters from canon)
Flower of Evil (-10/100, dont @ me)
Tale of the Nine Tailed (5/10, I think it succeeds at what it set out to do, which is a light hearted, sweet fantasy-romance-melodrama, plus “second lead” Kim Beom will make you cry as the hot mess of a half human/ half fox spirit ALL TEARS character. I think if you’re into kdrama romances as a genre, this is probably a good bet?)
Signal  (7/10,  This was the first full kdrama I watched this year and would definitely recommend. It’s a police procedural with time travel shenanigans and has an engaging plot, good pacing, texture and compelling performances. My one disappointment with it was the way they wrote Kim Hye-soo’s character. As literally the only female character to survive in any way, she was given short shrift, and toward the end it really began to grate on me.)
Six Flying Dragons - (7/10, also would recommend if you’re interested in Korean historicals. It definitely already feels a bit dated in terms of styling and production values, and even scripting and acting choices. But it has a good balance of fantasy and history and political commentary. I was not a fan of Yoo In-Ah’s performance in this series, but it’s not anything that would make you want to nope out of the series. It’s GoT , if GoT was thoughtful about politics and characters and not the misogynist, racist trashfire that it became.)
My Country: The New Age - (3.5/10, and that’s 3 points to Jang Hyuk’s fan and 0.5.points to Woo Do Hwan’s heaving bosom. If you like your historical drama/fantasy with very pretty men, very gay subtext -seriously RIP to show makers who thought they could hetero it but didn’t account for Woo Do Hwan’s Tragic Face- lots of blood and tears and very nonsense plot, this is right up your alley. I probably would have enjoyed it more in other circumstances, I think? But this one just annoyed me too much at the time!
I have a couple of more dramas to watch on my list, that’ll probably carry me over into 2021, so see ya on the other side! :D

So how is historical fiction books about real people any different than dramatized TV shows and movies about real people? You say you don’t read historical fiction books but you watch historical fiction TV shows???
they’re different forms of media. i can consume media in any which way i like. my brain has this habit of memorizing things i read but not always where i read them. as well, i tend to prefer reading nonfiction on the whole; that doesn’t mean the only television i watch are documentaries. even modern  contemporary fiction takes up less than a quarter of one shelf on my bookshelf (compared to historical nonfiction [whole shelf], classics/poetry [whole shelf and more], modern royalty [half a shelf, went through a Phase in highschool and is mostly vintage magazines w a few biographies that survived me moving out bc my mom threw out all my belongings while I was attending uni], fantasy [almost one shelf but is really just two series, filled in with runover classics], and an entire shelf of other nonfiction and old textbooks and dictionaries). I believe I own more cookbooks than fiction written in the past 75 years.
While they may rely on many of the same tropes, I enjoy watching them more. The costumes, the writing, acting, set design. These are all things that I pay attention to in a historical drama. They can be intricate and fun.
I’m also more critical of historical fiction in itself; they don’t have to struggle with budget when describing clothing or locations, it’s words not material goods. I’m also highly critical of historical dramas; if you’ve been paying any attention to this blog you would see that/
All in all, watching is a purely entertainment form of consuming media to me; while I prefer reading to be a more learned experience. They’re two different forms of media, therefore I will consume them differently and separately.

Me: Look at this character! I can shove so much suffering into this badboy. For a matter of fact, I made him immortal just so I could saw him in half and have him survive!
Mal: -sighs- I hate you.
DellaSanta: Aaaah! I got runover by a train.
Mal: Shut up, you're basically me in an AU.

I sometimes find myself astounded by the fact I'm alive.
Like, once I just fell and smashed my head onto a toilet, and the amount of times I have nearly drowned or gotten runover is astounding.
Once I nearly walked off a cliff at Hammershus, where the cliffs, in case you were curious, look like this:

A Legend Finds His Master Backstory: I like collecting enamel pins and this was one of the first @pokemon pins I got. It happens to be one of my favorite Mega Pokémon, Mega Tyranitar. A few weeks ago, the pin fell off of my backpack. I tried to retrace my steps and searched everywhere; no luck. I was super bummed out that I lost it. There was this empty spot on the middle of my backpack that I just couldn't get past. Fast forward to today. I was walking down the street from work and I happened to look down for no apparent reason. That's where I spotted it! I couldn't believe it was real! My Mega Tyranitar held up through a few rain storms, getting runover by cars and survived the elements. A true testament to this amazing Pokémon, in the games. He's a little banged up, as you see here, but I couldn't be happier to have him back. The pin is broken in the back, so I guess I will have to retire this true champion to the Hall of Fame. #pokemon #mega #evolution #tyranitar #megatyranitar #pokemonmaster #champion #enamelpin #pin #pins #collector #picoftheday #photooftheday #happy #gottacatchemall

The Girl Who Can't Go Home
That particular afternoon was raining. The window panes breathed mist blurring the view outside and a loud thunder could be heard minute by minute. Mud splattered across the painted brick walls from the heavy rain. It was one of those rare times that we, the students, were looking past outside the windows wondering when we are allowed to go home. Our teacher, who was also glancing outside, had stopped earlier in his discussion while awaiting the directive of our principal. I reckoned it was the typhoon from yesterday’s weather broadcast that was brewing outside that day. Heavy rainfall has started since that morning and I bet the rainwater had now begun gushing from the canal all over the sides of the pavement.
We were just listening to the pelting whips and whaps of the furious wind towards the trees that danced blurrily above the ground through the windows. Everytime a lightning struck, silence befell upon our lips and our hands quickly to cover our ears for the loud and echoing thunder that followed suit. The whole class was rather silent, observing keenly the weather outside. You could make out some faces etched with worry. Some were busy tapping their phones in frenzy like their lives have depended on it. Some were almost bawling their eyes out with the fear of possibly being stranded overnight in school and a million scenarios you couldn’t help but overthink.
I never peg myself to be a keenly observer. But that particular time, I was, and maybe the weather has urged me on. I noticed this girl from the same class at the back row. I never noticed her before, which was odd. Or maybe I was, I don’t know. Her head was carefully side-positioned above her folded arms which lay right on her desk. She was sleeping. She looked so peaceful amid the chaotic weather outside and the bothersome faces of my classmates.
The long silence stretched on as seconds ticked by and the palpable concern to get home has only increased tenfold. As though hearing our silent plights, the intercom spoke our principal’s voice mouthing the very words we wanted to hear. Everybody got up to their seats and immediately swung their backpacks around and through the door they went thronging among themselves. I stayed behind not wanting to get into a possible stampede. Our teacher scurried his way to the door as well in longer strides. Left alone by the door, I decided to just turn off the lights before I go. But my hands got suspended when I noticed a figure still slouching in her desk in the far corner of the room.
That girl! I thought. Did she have no friends? Why did nobody bother to wake her up? I thought.
I had no choice.  If it hadn’t been raining outside, I’d never EVER walk towards her to wake her up. It’s particularly hard getting a ride outside going home with this kind of weather, so I’m basically doing her a favor.
I stood behind her watching the corners of her mouth heaved in a faint snore. I shook her shoulders lightly, “Miss,” I said. “Manguli na.” She only blabbered some incoherent words at first as though indirectly telling me to go away. I shook her again, this time with a bit of force until her eyelids slowly opened and blinked, closed, opened and blinked again. After realizing what had just happened, she sat upright the back of her hand wiping the invisible drool on the corners of her mouth. She stood and straightened the crease on her faded blue blouse down to her dark blue skirt. Her head panned from left to right like she had been wondering where the others went. She begun stuffing her things inside her bag in haste.
“Asa na man sila?” She finally wondered out loud. Now that she’s awake, my work is done and I can go home peacefully. I walked through the door and rummaged my bag at the side pocket for the foldable umbrella that has always been with me. The rain still hadn’t stopped completely so it really did come in handy.
The long pathway from outside our building stretching to the next and unto the exit of the gate was exceptionally slippery with thick green mosses scattered across the elevated pavement. And just as I suspected, the rainwater has almost caught up with the elevation.
“Shit wala ko’y payong,” I heard a voice from behind. “Pasunua ko ha taman lang sa gate,” she said almost confidently as though I’d let her. Before I could say no, she already swung her arm around my left shoulder as I held the umbrella in my right hand, pulling me awkwardly close to her side. I looked at her incredulously but said nothing. She puckered her lips at the sight ahead of us. Afterwards, the corners of her mouth stretched into a small smile. Silence then ensued between me and her as we walked side by side towards the exit of the gate, the pelting raindrops against my umbrella as the only background. I just don’t know what to say. And I reckon that was the longest walk of my life.
The guard opened the gate and smiled faintly at me. “Salamat. Uli sa me ya.” I told him sincerely. His smile faded and his eyes squinted curiously at my direction. His next words hit me like a thunderbolt, “Unsay me, naa ba day kay kauban?”
After a while that I have been dumbstruck, he went on, “Gisabayan ka ni Lala?” he joked in half disbelief and bewilderment.
That seemed to have waked me up in a trance.
Lala was and is still an infamous name. Of course, I knew her. Everyone did. But never did I know how she looked like. When I glanced back beside myself, the beautiful girl was gone. All I see is a faint white figure donned in faded blue blouse and dark blue skirt which, the longer I observed, looked as though drenched in a faintest hue of red. She looked grotesque, one eye almost falling out of its socket. Her head disfigured and her hands clutched at her heart. She smiled and mouthed ‘thank you’ before she disappeared into the thick fog just across the cemented highway.
Two years ago, a senior student named Lala and her classmate met an untoward accident just across the school gate. The weather was as bad as today’s weather. Just as they were about to cross, they did not notice a car speeding up their way concealed by haze and fog from that afternoon’s endless rain. Her classmate was thrown with quite a force while Lala was runovered beneath the screeching tires, her head almost unrecognizable from the sudden impact. She ended up with several broken ribs, one eventually punctured her heart. Lala did not survive.
Until now, she still shares umbrella with any random student towards the gate during rainy days, hoping she could get home dry, safe, and ALIVE.

On the idea of Kosaku surviving after the final fight, maybe Josuke finds a way to insert Hamon inside ParaKira through one final punch and it simultaneously heals Kosaku's innards while causing Parasite Kira to shrivel up and weaken? The punch could throw him onto the street, leading to the ambulance scene with parasite Kira leaving Kosaku and getting runover. I dunno, I just want Kosaku to live through this somehow LOL, he deserves better
HE DOES DESERVE BETTER, but unfortunately, not everyone who deserves better gets better. Though I can definitely make an alternate happy ending because why the hell not. I feel like if Josuke’s gonna save Kosaku, though, he’s going to need hamon way more powerful than he already has, or else find another way of restoring Kosaku.

Ok but guys if bts is connected to no vacancy then I’m pretty sure the short films come after this upcoming MV because 1. Yoongi gets runover in first love He also sets the hotel on fire and if the other theory is correct Yoongi doesn’t want to end his friendship with V so burning down the motel so that V could be set free would make sense 2. Jin’s dead, represented by the shoes And in his short film he was all alone with pictures of everyone else and he had an ear piece almost as if he was taking care of them this is also very similar to i need u Ugh there’s so much going on in my head but basically the theory is that BTS is running from whoever killed Jin and ran over Yoongi I mean why else would Namjoom write ‘you need to survive’ on the mirror? Also I’m pretty sure that hobi and Jimin were so paranoid or had so much trauma that they got sent to a mental institution as for jungkook hes the one that walked away hence the match going out indicating that he walked into the darkness anyway they’re all running from a killer since in no vacancy is a horror film

I’m narrating ideas here because i’m kinda desperate lol
seein my peers poking their thesis with startup topics, i almost thought of doing the same with that but because i am so afraid of being attacked i chose a suicide topic
computer vision image matching  navigation aid for the visually impaired
-i really dont know what project should i do ,
do i have to went through with computer vision , correct rephrasing : CAN I build things with opencv, with potato PC right and equally potato laptop , i havent code anything meaningful like in almost 2 years ?
tried to build a simple contour detection program in c# but the emgu library cannot wrap from opencv dll, so they cannot initialize anything
i lost my sleep setting up lib, i gave up upon realizing that my 64 bit machine apparently HATES C# external libraries
i really dont understand if is it because of the visual studio ,because vc# is 32 bit tho ,i have set project properties to any cpu , and the libraries are also ?!! i ended up moving on to build this in java and i just realized today that my potato pc/laptop cant really handle android studio + opencv heavyweight
-i’m totes noob in java and this opencv, i will definitely cry
im upgrading my ram to 16 gb in saturday hoping that would be okay
regarding open cv itself , i am most afraid with memory allocation because no specific field’s of the navigation gonna stand the sorting like log n2 (as my lecturer said) my mathematical comprehension is weak
i can’t even handle the simplest one ,in 1-2nd semester  i used to malloc all the time because i dont care about its survival as long its working lmao
SURF algorithm is mathematically depressing
want to do cool data mining research and digging but mathematical game isnt strong , and i aint talking to another company to beg for big data which i know , they gonn be “whattt is this inexperienced brat wants to do with our junk
regarding building applications ,there was an unwanted trauma
A project that was supposed to be presented to high school students went downhill because windows went bsod and all arrays went null in a solution , 4 hours before it has to go
WHY IDIDNT LEARN GIT UGHH
here is some back up plan if that visual impaired app scenario didnt work ,the idea’s came from complaining in my head lol ?
i thought of making volunteer application
for poor b**** students who have to BEG for SAT points in order to graduate , like why do you tell me that i have to do 30 social hours RIGHT BEFORE i;m finishing my last semester,do you want me to extend my stay here that much until 9th semester just to fulfill that  quota for no reason (other than screwing me over? paying another 800 $?  for goddamn nothing son), i’d want to call indorelawan or something, like building applications that makes them easier to recruit volunteers ,and for us to acknowledge these ‘job’ opportunities and have a decent countdown of our requirements
i hope i can redeem these 30 social hours by doing this, we kinda have no aid in joining social activities , some of us have jobs to do and it;s not like we dont care for the causes , but really we prefer to do it without being forced. dont be surprised if in the end it’s not the empathy you’re reaping from this system but blatant resentment in me instead
Empathy for myself ideas:
I wanna track the outlaws who tried to run me over when i’m walking in pedestrian line; why abang abang motor nyawa saya cuma 1
I still want to build a pretentious a e s t h e t i c profile of my self on the internet with fancy ass parallax because inside i am just a pretentious artist wannabe that is somehow walked in this questionable path
I want to detect busy hours for traffic schedule , specifically public transportation because i don’t like being pushed around by these ibu2s who wants me dead every time :)
please correct the traffic lights , i almost died when crossing the greenlight because ANOTHER green light from that other side is also shining
build paintchat boards , i swear i miss these, the emergence of online boards for drawing together, even not optimized after 12 years r u kidding me
runover those outlaws
