Everything Great About a Match: Austin Cooper v Z-Man (bgeast.com)
Everything Great About a Match: +7
Austin Cooper v Z-Man (bgeast.com)
SPOILER ALERT: I highly recommend viewing this match in its entirety before reading this post.
So let's begin: +1: For the flex fight. Now at times these types of matches can seem gimmicky but not this - this is pure masculine energy channeled into flexing. Both men have something to prove and both men want to prove it by showing off how they can dismantle the other via forced flexing - I mean who are we to complain, am I right? Hell this deserves a bonus point [+1] for enlightening me on the ways of the flex match.
Z-Man: You see these? Austin: They're small.
Austin: Do it. Flex your biceps for me!
Austin: No... *AHHHH* Alright, alright I'll flex
Austin: Flex, I want more flexing.
I love how smug and proud Z-man is to show off his handiwork here.
+1: Along with that, can we talk about the shear athleticism at work here? Austin is a beast plain and simple.
I mean how many guys can pull this off?
Austin showing off on his terms
+1: For all the ab beat downs. Why is it I love some good ab work? I may never know but there's something about a tanned chiseled six-pack on a cocky guy getting worked over that definitely deserves a point.
Z-man slumped over and flexing those abs gives Austin an idea. Pummel the man and show him those abs mean nothing.
Just an upside ab bash to really show off how much he owns you.
+1: For the close up camera angles. Throughout this match, we are constantly treated to our two muscle studs groaning and flexing within an inch of the action.
Every muscle twitch is captured in this match, Every ab is clearly visible.
You can almost feel Z-man's breath as he cries out
+1: All those damn pec claws! Austin shows off how he can dominate Z-man with this move only to have the tables turned on him. Both wrestlers' drool-worthy pecs make tempting targets here and I can't fault them for wanting to take a piece of that chest home with them.
Z-man fights back to get free only to get caught once again.
Z-man gets his turn on those impressive things.
+1: Humiliating your helpless opponent on the turnbuckle. I recently have come to appreciate this move ever since I saw a helpless Chace LaChance laid on the turnbuckle while Donnie Drake had at it on him. Austin and Z-man have their own variation and really make this move work. You can feel the helplessness on Austin's face along with the thrill coming off of Z-man to have his man laid out and ready to take whatever he can throw.
Z-man: Dammit, flex for me! Austin: *Groan* No... *Groan* I won't flex...
Austin using up all his willpower and hoping to hang on
------- Everything Great About this Match: +7
So there you have it. This is a solid match showcasing Austin and Z-man in their prime. I initially had my reservations about a flex match but these two really sell. The beatdowns, the anguish over having to flex, all come together to make this work. I can feel Austin's breath as he cries out in submission or Z-man having to debase himself with a flex. Thank you Austin and Z-man for showing me the light - a flex match is all about showing your beaten opponent off as your latest trophy.

Moonbeam Dick
I probably had too much fun with this one, but Dick's had so many iterations & costumes over the years, so much cool lore, and is one of the heroes we can actually track real-world influence on his designs! (Whoever came up with the idea to take the Doyalist reasoning of superhero costumes being based on circus performers & wrestlers, and retconning it into Dick's backstory to make the Robin costume based on the Flying Graysons' performance outfits: I see you, and I love you.) So this has been a wild, whirlwind trip through the real-world evolution of gymnastics outfits, acrobatic costuming, and comic history (paying special attention to the different costumes we've actually seen in the various flashbacks/retellings of Dick's origin over the years,) while getting way too many design ideas along the way.)
Now here's a hurdle, because Dick's not going to start with a past Moonbeam costume as his base and alter it to reflect himself. Dick Grayson is going to start with his acrobat costume, and alter it to become Moonbeam. So we're starting with a bodysuit. Skin-tight, full-sleeve, the type that loops around your middle finger to stay in place. Neckline like this fucking fantastic redesign by mabychan.
(Gods, every time I see this picture, I need to stop & stare for like... at least 3min.)
Next: the colors. Dick likes bright colors & high contrast; you barely need to glance at even one of his costumes to realize that. I, personally, really love the version where the Robin suit was a tribute to his family, but red & green really aren't "Moonbeam" colors. Fortunately, the Flying Grayson's costumes have also been shown as potential inspiration for Dick's Nightwing suit, which seems to me like a great way to keep that tidbit in without defaulting to the Robin colors! So the new color scheme is sky blue, dark blue, and white-gold (which would probably be either more silver or gold, depending on the artist.)
So the suit is predominantly light blue, with a larger the dark blue triangle like his Lost Carnival costume on the upper chest, the shoulder-points of which partially run down his upper arms. While some artists might have them go all the way to his elbows or even the finger-loops on his hands personally I don't see them going further than about halfway down Dick's biceps (at first), where the very tips of them disappear behind golden arm-bands which can be used to store gadgets. Matching bands around his thighs, too, though those are larger, for bigger pockets.
(While I am trying to evoke how some people draw the 90s Nightwing gold stripe as separate bands lower down the arm, it's probably easiest to imagine Steph's leg-bands to explain this. Also, the bands on this absolutely delightful bedazzled Nightwing by rinpin that I cannot get out of my head are a good reference for placement.)
The triangle also does a great job of framing Dick's Moonbeam symbol: a crescent moon that covers most of his upper chest, filling the triangle from side to side.
(It's another subtle tribute to his parents. Also, the green & gold "All-Star Batman and Robin" costumes are the best look the Flying Graysons have ever worn, don't @ me.)
Like with Cass, I actually found my inspiration for this when I realized what Dick would use to hide his identity: a "colombina" masquerade mask.
(These two specifically inspired me while I was doing research.)
The legs are dark blue, cut at an angle where they meet Dick's torso to evoke Tim's original Robin costume (and, to a lesser extent, the Earth 2 grown-up Robin costume) and make the bodysuit look even more like a classic leotard. Dark blue or black gloves underneath the finger-loops to protect Dick's hands & keep his fingerprints off of things. Black boots with a lighter hem on top (either the light blue or white-gold, I don't really care which) with the V top we see on the Earth-2 Robin's boots, echoing the triangle on his chest. The soles of the boot are light blue.
(The boots will, almost certainly, end up being drawn as just part of the leg, colored the same dark blue as the legs and just having a lighter stripe around his shins as well as the band around his thighs. This is not at all the intended design, but I've been looking at comic costumes for months now, and I know how details get fudged.)
So. That's the acrobat angle with enough details to make it at least passable as Moonbeam. I feel like it needs some more armor. Looking at what I've got so far, how about something like these gauntlets I used as a reference for Shadow!Steph and some simple pauldrons, both in white-gold?
Finally, while Dick's "utility belt" is more of a waist sash with hidden pockets inside, I keep going back & forth on whether or not to give him a scale-mail skirt for the extra protection & flair. It makes sense, but I worry it might be a bit much...
(Styled much like the one on the left, but closer in length to the one on the right. Color could be either light blue to extend the line of his torso & keep the colors balanced or white-gold to keep all the metallic bits consistent.)
This one has been, despite how much fun I had brainstorming, the biggest pain pinning anything down on. I'm so glad I'm done with it now.

Ricky Starks
This MAN would be enamored with a woman who is bold. I’m talking about bold personality, bold makeup, bold outfits, etc. This man steps out all the time with bold outfits and pics (have you seen his ass? Literally, have you seen his ass?) He would need a partner who can match his style, just simply for aesthetic reasons. For personality, again I would see him being attracted to someone who is fierce and who goes head to head in a battle of words (or flirty banter).
Hook
Do I need to explain? (We all saw the man at a strip club) I think because of the fact he is quiet (intimidating-ly quiet), he would love someone who speaks their mind more frequently than him. She would need to have the baddie mentality; for appearance, I’m sure he wouldn’t care, but I think he would lean towards baddie style/appearance. But I think that only because he would like for her to have the same style (like streetwear) as him.
Daniel Garcia
HAVE YALL SEEN THE MAN IN ISIAH’S VLOGS?? MANS BE GOING CRAZY. He would easily be attracted to someone with the Baddie aesthetic (crop tops, tight jeans, etc.). I think, like Ricky, something about a woman being very fierce and outgoing would just turn him on. I would also think they would need to go out as much as he does (to clubs and social gatherings) cause those are some of the things he considers to be fun. I would also think he would try to match outfits with you kind of like Ricky.
Eddie Kingston
This is one is a no-brainer (in my mind). I believe that Eddie is that person who wants his partner to have a “Baddie” mentality (independent, tough yet caring, comfortable with their skin, unapologetically themselves, and has a range of humor). Like he would have no problem with you being a “softie,” but I feel like he would bond better with someone who has a similar mindset as him. Bottom line, he just wants you to be comfortable.
Darius Martin/Dante Martin (Top Flight)
To me, they are the true neutrals for this request (please look at my diagram for a visual representation). I think they genuinely would not care about personality or appearances, their significant other’s comfort would be their primary concern/worry. But I see them being attracted to sweethearts because they are sweethearts (especially my man Darius). But again, I truly think they would be drawn to anybody (as long as the vibes are there mannnnn).
Kenny Omega
Two words; Kota Ibushi (That’s Kenny’s soulmate and I will not take any criticisms). That man looks so cute, yet has a killer mentality (and I think that is what Kota embodies) but also Kota is a big sweetheart. So to be honest, I see Kenny being a neutral person but with more favoritism on the softie side. Also, the man is a softie himself; Kenny is very kind and sweet.
Wardlow
THAT MAN IS TOO DAMN TALL- Hear me out, the man has a corruption kink (or omegaverse as he has compared himself to wolves….ARGUE WITH YOUR MOMMA). I genuinely see Wardlow being attracted to a person who is a sweetheart so that way he can experience a very nurturing and caring person. I think he is one of those people where it’s like opposites attract. Now, for appearance idk, it can go either way; he would just want the person to definitely be a soft person.
Adam Page
THIS MAN IS A SOUTHERN SWEETHEART, ALL THE WAY DOWN THE COWBOY BOOTS! I think he would definitely be attracted to a Southern belle. Adam would love to have a softie significant other because of the sheer aesthetic and he needs some genuine pure love and care (for all the shit he has been through). I would see him looking at his significant other as if they’re his escape from everything and just adore the shit outta them. (Pls protect this man)

Thoughts on AEW: Revolution (2024)
There will be spoilers. There will also be a cut, as a courtesy.
Zero Hour:
The Bang Bang Scissor Gang (Max Caster, Anthony Bowens, Billy Gunn, Austin Gunn, Colten Gunn, Jay White) vs Jeff Jarrett, Stanam Singh, Jay Lethal, Willie Mack, and Private Part
This consistent thing of Max flubbing on the rap is interesting. My current assumption is that they're potentially having Max break away from the group. Which is an interesting choice, because Bowens is significantly more popular.
The match itself was totally fine. It was a Jarrett match. I didn't go into it expecting it to be some sort of masterpiece of technical wrestling. I expected a fun, goofy little thing with a bunch of silly shit happening that also happened to have some decent-to-good wrestling. And that's exactly what this was. No complaints.
I have no idea if White's post-match promo was intended to be interpreted as a smarmy, insincere thing filled with deliberately cheap pops for the audience, but that's how I heard it. It somehow made it so much better.
Willow Nightingale & Kris Statlander vs Julia Hart & Skye Blue
Julia Hart's character going from a cheerleader to "What if The Undertaker was a spooky girl instead?" is such an amazing transformation. I can't get over how well she's committed to the presentation of the gimmick, and how good this is. Skye going from blue-themed girl from Chicago to a Dark Kingdom cosplayer has also been an interesting development. I like how these two also seem to be enjoying the changeup.
Stokely Hathaway is hilarious. I love him on commentary. His inclusion of the dynamic with Willow and Kris is just fantastic.
If I've said it once, I've said it 100 times-- I love Willow. She's one of my favorite women on the roster. The combination of the happy/bubbly personality that also contains someone who, if pressed, will rip you in half? Wonderful stuff. And Statlander is also consistently great. Watching these two throw Skye around was fantastic.
I was a little surprised to see Willow and Kris win without any major fuckery. Julia's moonsault looked significantly better compared the one with her match against Abadon.
It was a fun little match.
Revolution
Christian Cage vs Daniel Garcia, AEW TNT Championship
Christian Cage continues to be one of the best heels in professional wrestling today. A gimmick composed entirely of "lmao L + Ratio + Dead Dad" and "I will be your father"-- all while he wrestles in a goddamn sleeveless turtleneck? Everything about that is just somebody whose face you want to see punched.
Really happy to see Garcia get the match. I mentioned before that I had wanted DG to win. That didn't happen, but I thought everything about the match was great. Menard combing out there to beat the hell out of Luchasaurus/Killswitch in defense of Danny was great.
I thought Garcia looked good in this, and I don't think him losing to Christian (especially with all the interference) will cause any significant issues.
Ultimately, I enjoyed the match. I thought it was a good opener and kept me pretty invested the whole time. Although I'm wondering who is going to be the one to actually take the title off Christian.
Eddie Kingston vs Bryan Danielson, Continental Crown Championship (AEW Continental, ROH World, NJPW Strong Openweight Championships)
Bryan Danielson is without question one of the greatest technical pro wrestlers of all time. Also, he and Eddie both are fantastic in-ring storytellers.
Bryan Danielson, in his current iteration, is also a condescending piece of shit, and he's great at doing that, too.
Like Willow, I love Eddie. Eddie is up there with Hiroshi Tanahashi in that I will literally always cheer for him. I don't care who he's up against, I'm cheering for Eddie the whole time.
This match was amazing. Eddie and Bryan are so great at getting you emotionally invested in their matches. They both know what things they need to do for the audience to get hooked in, and they play those perfectly. The narrative of this match was perfect.
I went into this genuinely uncertain just who would win. The majority of the match didn't help matters. Eddie hitting the ring post with a chop, instead of Danielson, was a nice piece of drama to incorporate into things. I also liked how Danielson really made it a point to emphasize just how strong Eddie's chops are-- with commentary even pointing out Bryan things Eddie is better with chopping/upper body attacks.
A big narrative line through these Eddie Kingston Addresses the Blackpool Combat Club matches has been that BCC generally seems to think Eddie has the potential to be a lot better than he is, and they're trying to get that out of him. Except for Mox, they don't respect Eddie until he shows up and chops the fuck out of them. Eddie has always been on their level, but he doesn't believe in himself enough to really get there.
Great match. Just a great fucking match.
I know Eddie eventually is going to have to lose the belts. It's an inevitability unless just retire all of them simultaneously, but that seems unlikely. That said, I don't have to like it.
Wardlow vs Chris Jericho vs Powerhouse Hobbs vs Lance Archer vs Hook vs Brian Cage vs Magnus vs Dante Martin
Originally the Meat match, got changed up due to Reasons. I'll be honest, I didn't really care much about this match. I assumed Wardlow was going to win, because it didn't really make sense to do this repackaged presentation of him with Undisputed Kingdom, set up a match essentially to be like "Look at Wardlow slap all this meat" and then have him lose. The inclusion of the smaller guys was, like, fine. Dante Martin is great. Hook is fun. Magnus was also great. Chris Jericho was there.
I thought it was contrived and silly, but I also enjoyed when the smaller dudes all got knocked out of the ring so the bigger dudes could do a little pose off and have slap meat. But that's because the "MEAT" chants are hilarious to me.
My preferred ending to this match would have been if Wardlow had powerbombed Jericho for the win. But you can't get everything you want. Also, Wardlow using the Last Ride as his finisher is great. I wasn't the biggest fan of Bikertaker (and I believe he had only recently transitioned into Bikertaker whenever I fell off of watching WWF/E the first time) but Last Ride is such a great powerbomb.
A silly and fun match. It was a nice cooldown from Eddie/Bryan.
Roderick Strong vs Orange Cassidy, AEW International Championship
AEW's doctor said that OC wouldn't be cleared to wrestle unless they taped up his ribs and back. So the match starts with OC wearing a comical amount of kinesio tape. In a match against a man who is literally called "The Messiah of the Backbreaker".
Strong came to the ring wearing a white hooded cape and a skull-themed, like, paintball mask. I didn't recognize it at first, but I think it was intended to be something like Taskmaster from Marvel Comics. Which is kinda cool. I'm not as familiar with Taskmaster as much as other villains-- mostly because I just haven't read a lot of Marvel stuff.
Anyway, this was a good match. Roddy, as one would expect, beat the hell out of OC's back. I think OC did great at showing that he's just a beat down dude who has barely let himself take time to recover from any injuries. And having him go up against someone who basically specializes in hurting the area that OC was already injured was just perfect.
Roddy is great. The number of ways that man can spin something into a backbreaker is always impressive. I'm glad he won. I maintain that getting this win will absolutely help the legitimacy of Undisputed Kingdom.
Blackpool Combat Club (Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli) vs FTR
I think that FTR is one of the greatest tag teams around today. I've said this before. I was a fan of theirs when they were in NXT as The Revival, and I loved their little Belt Collector run with AEW. In terms of non-WWE tag teams, they're usually right up there with The Young Bucks, and whether you're a fan of the Bucks or FTR really seems to boil down to the style you like to watch. The no-flips-just-fists of FTR is a great callback to the older era of wrestling, and the two of them do it well.
Mox and Claudio also do that very well.
This was a great match. These four dudes beat the shit out of each other, and I genuinely wasn't sure how the match would go.
BCC doing a Doomsday Device with a goddamn European uppercut was wild.
I think having Mox and Jon win was perfectly fine. FTR isn't going to be hurt by losing to these two dudes. They're fucking FTR. I could easily watch these four have several more matches together. There's a kind of respectful brutality with them.
That all being said, I do wish the meme of Mox bleeding every match-- or people being surprised when he isn't bleeding-- would finally die. He hasn't done it in a while.
Of course, half of Mox's character is basically some sort of blood freak with a violence fetish, so I still expect blood somewhere in his bigger matches.
"Timeless" Toni Storm vs Deonna Purrazzo, AEW Women's Championship
Mariah May coming out to Toni's old theme, with her old gear was a great touch.
Deonna is great. I'm happy to see her here. I'm glad that there's solid technical wrestling the women's division with her and Deeb being there. This was a solid match. I didn't really have a lot in terms of expectations-- I haven't seen a lot of Deonna's other stuff, but I knew she was good.
While I think it would have been fine if Deonna had one, I also think it may have been a bit too soon for that. Also, if Mercedes is debuting soon, that sets up a bit of a lose/lose if Deonna is the champion and they try to hook those two into a feud.
I definitely want to see more from Deonna. I think she would be a good person to take the TBS belt from Julia. I don't want her down in ROH-- but that's because ROH is a subscription service, and I don't currently have it (although I do want it, because Athena is one of my favorites).
I thought this was a solid match for both of them. Toni is always fun to watch in the ring. I'm curious to see where things go with both of them after this.
Will Ospreay vs Konosuke Takeshita
1 Like = 1 Bruv.
My expectation for this match was, quite literally, just that it was going to be a fucking fantastic match. Ospreay is one of the greats. Takeshita is steadily (and rapidly) approaching into the ranks of the greats.
I fucking loved this match. The crowd at the arena fucking loved this match. Every time Ospreay and Takeshita started in on each other, you could eat the people just get so into it.
Was this a dirty spotfest? Yeah. Of course. It's a Will Ospreay match. That's what he does. But you know what? I don't fucking care. I can enjoy watching ZSJ and Bryan Danielson spend an hour in the middle of the ring, trying to break each other's fingers and I can enjoy watching Ospreay and Takeshita jump around and flip and smash each other with elbows before jumping and flipping some more.
Spanish Fly is also one of my favorite moves to watch.
The match fucked. It humped. It was great. I loved it. It was A Spectacle if there ever was one. The kind of match you can eat popcorn to, although you're going to throw it everywhere because you jerking the bag around out of excitement. So much fun.
Samoa Joe vs Swerve Strickland vs HangMAD Hangman Adam Page
Did I want Swerve to win? Yes.
Did I want Hangman to win? Yes.
Did I want Samoa Joe to win? Yes.
Did I want Hangman to completely lose his mind and deliberately fuck over Swerve? Oh god, yes.
Swerve Strickland the most over wrestler who is not named "Sting" in AEW. There is nobody who comes close to this man. He literally broke into Hangman's home, and threated Hangman's infant child, and the crowd still loves him, because he's that fucking cool. And he's that good. Swerve's popularity is so strong that anyone who goes against him is going to be booed on some level.
Hangman has, as the upper-third of his name plate said, completely lost it. Wide-eyed, driven, and completely unhinged. Does he want the championship? Or does he just want Swerve to not have it?
Samoa Joe is Samoa Joe. We all love him. He's great on the mic. He's great in the ring. He feels credible and legitimate as a champion and a challenger. Having him be the champion for this feud is great.
A fantastic match. A ton of fun to watch. There was a perfect amount of drama for this thing. I loved it.
This match also cemented the double-turn for Swerve and Hangman.
Hangman, in an attempt to prevent Swerve from winning, beat up two different referees. The only way that's a babyface move is if your name is Bobby Heenan. Hangman's obsession with screwing over Swerve has caused him to start doing this stuff. I can't wait to see where they go with him now. Are they gonna change the music? Will they keep the goofy comments in the nameplate?
Swerve, by extension, refused to use Prince Nana's crown when it was offered, saying that he didn't need it. A thing that had been used before in matches against Hangman. There is an attempt here to have Swerve redeem himself for the deplorable things he's done.
In the end, Hangman tapped to Samoa Joe. Excalibur, help to sow the seeds that many people were wondering, posed the question if Hangman was tapping because he actually gave up, or if he was tapping to spite Swerve. I think it was the latter, because he's that much of a (justified) hater.
I am still 100% in favor of Hangman and Swerve fighting forever.
Sting and Darby Allin vs The Young Bucks, AEW Tag Team Championship
Sting's last match. Going out on his terms. This was a big deal for a lot of people. Even people who weren't in AEW. I knew this was going to be special.
Before the match starts, Ric Flair made his way down to the ring to take up space. Then, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat came down as the guest timekeeper. They also showed various other wrestlers in the audience.
The Young Bucks come out in robes and have cannons shoot out business cards. It felt like a corporate Okada entrance. I liked it.
Darby came out as he does.
Then we got a little video package of Sting in an empty theater as they show various career highlights. In the end, he says, "It's showtime. It's showtime for the last time. Let's do this."
Sting's entrance starts with one of his sons dressed as a red, white, and blue-themed Surfer Sting, complete with the blonde hair. Another son is dressed as Wolfpac Sting. Then we have Sting show up.
While Tony Schiavone's voice isn't as strong as it was in WCW, you can tell during his initial commentary during the match that's definitely trying not to get emotional.
Watching Sting, and his two sons, do Stinger Splashes to the Bucks was great.
Tables, chairs, a ladder, and panes of glass were brought out. Panes. Multiple. A series of chairs were set up, and one or two sheets of the glass were placed on top, like a table.
Sting and Darby went through tables.
Darby jumped from the ladder (which was quite tall) and landed back first into Chekov's Glass-and-Chair Table. He laid on the ground for quite some time, his back just absolutely shredded.
Sting, also, went through glass. However, he had clothes on, and looked unscathed.
The match was chaos in the best way. I had no idea who would win-- I expected The Bucks to do something fucky to screw over Sting. They threw everything at him. He withstood multiple superkicks and BTE/EVP Triggers.
Eventually, Darby came back to life, and managed to keep Nicholas Jackson at bay long enough for Sting to throw on the Scorpion Deathlock. Matthew taps. Sting and Darby retain.
Sting's last wrestling match, and he goes out on top. I didn't expect that. I don't know why I didn't expect that. Tony Khan is a billionaire wrestling nerd, and Sting was/is probably a favorite of his. If there was ever a wrestler who deserved to go out as the winner, it's Sting.
If AEW is around long enough to have a "Hall of Fame", Sting needs to be one of the first people inducted (the first person has to be Brodie Lee, or I will personally fight Tony Khan). I hope they are around long enough for that.
Miscellaneous non-match things
PAC IS COMING BACK. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. I've missed that bastard.
KOR IS BACK. YESSSSSSSSSSSSS. I missed that goofy son of a bitch. I was so worried he wouldn't be coming back. I can't watch to see how he's going to be interacting with Undisputed Kingdom, since he seemingly rejected Roddy's offer to join.
Apparently Toni Storm called out Wendy Richter again in the post-show media scrum. Which I just find consistently hilarious.
In Summary
This shit was fucking fun as hell, dude. AEW is very consistent in having good quality PPVs. World's End was probably the weakest one I've seen, and even then, it wasn't bad. I can't wait to see the fallout of things on Wednesday.

Dick Togo (c) vs. Kota Ibushi (DDT Judgement 2011)
Real graps, sister.
When pro wrestling finds itself at its best, there's nothing like it. The same can be said about DDT Pro Wrestling as a whole. Such a divisive company is not to everyone's taste, but when you can get something that all people can enjoy equally, you start to think there's something more than just greatness hidden in these matches you can occasionally find looking at the resume of such a prestigious belt as the KO-D Openweight Championship. Maybe there's something else than just good matches and a happy vibe. This match is one of those experiences that changes your perception of a wrestling company as a whole, and I'm sure it changed mine when I first watched this.
Re-watching this match felt like going back to being a little girl, not because this match awakened something inside of me, but because I remembered I was naive and foolish. I didn't know about this match and neither did I know about the quality DDT can achieve when put to test. Such as his match against HARASHIMA, Dick Togo excels in his performance, but I want to focus on the other wrestler standing on the other side of the ring.
Contrary to what people think, singles match Kota Ibushi is a mixed bag for me. I'm more into tag wrestler Ibushi because I think he's better at being the one with the hot tag. Some of his matches (especially in modern-day NJPW) have got me to sleep, literally. I couldn't finish watching any Jay White vs. Kota Ibushi 45-minute match because I couldn't believe a wrestler that can be as good as he is in tag competition just plainly sucks at doing something else. I found myself praising singles match Ibushi when he wrestles OUTSIDE of Shin Nihon's formulaic approach to such delicate craft, and of course, the matches that I like the most are the ones that he did in DDT.
I don't know, maybe KO-D Openweight Ibushi feels more like a really great wrestler than IWGP Heavyweight Ibushi because he's not forced to wrestle a long match. This match is incredible not only because Ibushi gets to do some of the best counters I have seen a wrestler do, but also because, unlike his match against HARASHIMA, Togo finds himself in a hurry while wrestling the Golden Star. Ibushi's drive and passion connect with the Korakuen faithful, and his fighting spirit shines through his own pain. People now call Ibushi a god but in this match, he's a mere mortal, but one that has enough heart and determination to keep standing against a wrestler that is putting everyone to notice in DDT, and I think he's better like that.
I'm a sucker for fiery babyfaces, and in this match, Ibushi goes out of his way to evoke such emotions in fans that REALLY want him to win, because he's just that good. Togo is a party pooper, but he's the best party pooper you could think of because not only does he have the experience to back up such a precious piece of his craft, but because he's considerably less handsome than baby boy Ibushi here. The hopes of the girls screaming for Ibushi's name become just shattered illusions when Togo shows them he does not have 15 years of career for nothing.
What I love about this match is that Togo does not feel superior. He upsets Ibushi but he doesn't dominate him at all because he's facing the second-best wrestler in the company. I like how Togo's game plan gets thrown into the trash when he realizes Ibushi is just not going to fall that easily. And Kota here is insane too, because he's willing to do anything to win the KO-D title. Togo knows this and counters Ibushi's counters who then become Ibushi's counters to Togo's offense...if you've seen the match you get what I'm saying.
Anyhow, this match rules and you should definitely watch it.

talk about your favourite or several favourite hob matches :> pls
oh dear. u mean i can't say all of them?
in all seriousness:
double or nothing 2022 versus death triangle is always one i come back to. it's such a fun mix of styles and approaches to wrestling and i think it's a really great showcase of everyone's skills both as athletes and as performers. i think i'll probably always enjoy when house of black wrestles against the more light, flowy lucha style. smaller more compact guys like rey and pac throwing brody around is so fun as well - i love the intent and deliberate collaboration between wrestlers that goes into making those moves not only work but look convincing. penta's willingness to go all fucking in on the penta oscuro character is something i'll miss, too.
revolution 2023 versus the elite is also great - there's so much storytelling involved in that match in terms of the trios title changing hands and what that meant for both factions as well as some really fun collaborative spots on both sides, and it's kind of crazy that i live in a time where my favourite guys won over some of the best tag wrestlers in the world for a championship belt. funny bonus for matt being a goofy goober and trying to bait brody only to chicken out. i kind of wish they'd had the trios belts longer, or been able to defend them more often, but who knows - maybe they'll win them again some time.
for julia, i'd have to say full gear 2023. she's always incredible but to not only hold her own but win for a title against stat when she's so young is really impressive, and i loved the way that the storyline with "corrupting" skye added to the tension of how that match played out. when she's really given the room to show it, julia has developed a real savvy and an awareness for how to make her opponents look good as well as to play to her own strengths, and she's just always a delight to watch.
cope vs malakai was so fun for me because i think a lot of people haven't seen malakai perform in that kind of extreme rules environment, so it was fun to see him in a very different element than we usually do. i'll probably be sad forever about the way that match ended, but there were lots of fun spots prior to it and they both seemed like they were having a great time with both the storyline and the match itself. i hope they get to run it back some time or at least be involved in each other's stories - there was something really special about their individual creativities coming together and i'd love to see it again.
honourable mention for mxm collection because it was both a really great chance for mxm to showcase what they can do against some high-calibre wrestlers - they're already great on their own, and house of black are consistently quite good at really trying to highlight and support the strengths of their opponents; it's something i've always liked about them - as well as just being extremely fun and silly in a way that was very welcome when i start taking wrestling too seriously.

I’m not sure how to express what I’m going for here so I might fumble around a bit, but I’m learning more and more how few divisions there are between different forms of entertainment and artistic expression, how a fundamental sense of story unites them, and how much I love that.
I do impro, and not long ago I and some other people I do that with took a clowning workshop. (I hate clowns in the creepy makeup sense, but clowning as a practice is a lot of fun.) The teacher was great and gave me a lot to think about, but my favourite lesson was that a clown approaches a character by breaking it down to its barest essentials. So if you’re in a scene pretending to be a businessman, how do you do it? Well, what are three things about a businessman? He has a suitcase, he wears a suit, he’s very busy. That’s all you need, those three things, and the audience will understand who you are.
Not long after that, I was at a beer and barbecue festival where they had some wrestling as entertainment. I’d never really been into wrestling, but my friend (another improviser) was so we watched it. And not only did I have a great time, I realised how familiar the show felt. The wrestlers had personae that were like a clown’s. One guy’s gimmick was that he was a vice-principal, and immediately I could see the three things: he wore a sweater vest, he handed out detention slips, and he had a ruler. And even though there are some ways a wrestling match is different to impro - the moves are thoroughly choreographed where our stuff is made up on the spot - I saw the similarities too: the focus on quickly establishing characters, the importance of the relationship between players, the sense of trust. It felt so good to see a different take on the same impulse to entertain.
I always thought I was in a different category to the wrestling fans, or the performers, but we’re all coming from the same place. Singers, actors, comedians, artists, dancers, wrestlers, writers, and the fans of all of them, we’re all embracing story and fun and the unknown together.

zsj or io shirai for the wrestler ask?
I don't follow Stardom so I'll answer this for ZSJ!
Zack is one of my favorite wrestlers. I was introduced to him early in my NJPW viewing, and the first match of his that I ever saw was his match against Shibata when he turned heel and joined Suzuki Gun.
His matches are unique and fun to watch, his promos are unique and very good, he has great chemistry with a lot of other wrestlers who I love, and he's very engaging with both allies and opponents. He held such a special place within Suzuki Gun and truly expanded the range of the faction in a way that I don't think any other wrestler could have.
I have to admit though, that as he's rounded out his style and filled in some of the gaps in his wrestling approach, I've found his matches less engaging. I liked him better when he was a very unbalanced wrestler who could end a match at any time, but who could also get easily overwhelmed by strikes. It's not a bad thing that he's evolved as a wrestler over time, and I like the character growth he's gone through, but there was something uniquely engaging about his older work that I think has been lost in the process.
Zack makes me think of a quote from Suzuki that I think about a lot, from this article.
Suzuki: Why is Lance Archer popular? Why does Zack Sabre Junior have the support he does? Because there’s stuff they can’t do. Nobody in this goddamn business understands that. Wrestlers don’t understand that. Trainers, people teaching these kids don’t understand that for crying out loud!
–The system wants to create all rounders.
Suzuki: So the kids go in, and they train, and their trainers find what the gaps are in their games, and they try to fill those gaps right up. So you have this perfectly smooth, grey lump of boring trash. Fill in those holes on a wrestler and there’s no way in hell he’s filling seats with asses.
I think Suzuki's right, and I feel like as Zack has rounded out his style, he's lost some of what made his wrestling compelling to me personally as a result. I still really enjoy his work though, and he's still one of my favorite wrestlers. But if you haven't watched any of his earlier work from around when he first joined Suzuki Gun, I urge you to check it out.

Bones, Body, Soul.
(A Jeff Hardy Story. Ch.4)
WWF was great. In the six months Lemmy had been there, they had made so many friends and couldn’t be prouder of the success their boys had on the tag-team side of the roster. Most days they wandered around backstage and waited for cameras to go off, happy to have a match even if it wasn’t aired. But recently, they hadn’t even had dark matches.
Lots of new talent was slowly filling in from WCW who were already classified as great wrestlers with great careers, so they went straight to the top of the roster, immediately making it on the card every time and shoving those who were finally getting a push way to the end of the long line of superstars hoping to get their in. Plus, no matter how much Lemmy tried to fight with the executives, they refused to let them wrestle anyone but the Women’s roster which hardly got pushed on a normal basis let alone with all the WCW stuff.
But it didn’t matter. They were having a great time, and Jeff and Matt were just doing so good- they had even held the titles already! They would seem ungrateful if they said anything about it. Right?
Today, just like any other day, Lemmy sat backstage with the Hardys, waiting for the night to be over so they could go to the next city, or the next state, or wherever the hell they were going next and watch their friends perform in front of crowds of thousands, drawing even more to watch from their TV, just so the crowds could file out and the TV’s would turn off, and Lemmy was performing in front of no one- again. If they even got to.
What was the point of signing a year-long contract with a multi-million dollar media company if it refuses to share the millions or the media time?
Jeff breaks them from their hateful thoughts as he laughs at one of Matt's bad jokes. The sound echoed against the almost empty hallway, bar from the trio and E&C. Lemmy looked away from the brick and mortar they had been glaring down at as if the wall was the one that put them in this position. Christian and Adam were laughing too. They were all talking about their upcoming match at SummerSlam, four days before Jeff’s birthday.
“Enough about that, you got anything going on Lemm?” Christian spoke up, trying to bring them back into the conversation when they stopped death-staring the concrete. Lemmy’s eyebrows shot up at the sudden attention, eyes glancing around the other four.
“Oh! Uhm, no, not really. They might put me in dark matches again next week.” They looked down to the floor as they spoke, almost embarrassed about how little they had come compared to the two tag-teams besides them main eventing SummerSlam.
Jeff nudged their feet with his wrestling boots, shooting a small smile their way. Lemmy didn’t look up to see it. They just stared at his wrestling boots, the shiny white and black of the leather and their sneakers. DC’s. The big, chunky ones meant for skating. Impossible to wrestle in, and Lemmy knew so, once they had forgotten their wrestling boots back in OMEGA’s gymnasium days and had to wrestle with no shoes. But they still retained their championship, and the crowd loved Karma and their ally Willow as much as they usually did. Now here they were- no Willow, no partner, and no wrestling. They were trying so hard to not be negative about the situation, but sometimes you can’t help but feel jealousy. In Lemmy’s case, it followed with guilt.
“I don’t get why they don’t give you time on the screen, people loved your debut! I’m really sorry, it must suck not wrestling with how much you put into this.” Christian had always been good at comforting people, but it didn’t seem to be working right now. Lemmy only offered him a shrug and a shaking smile, a hand coming up to scratch the underside of their face- another one of their nervous habits Jeff was quick to catch onto.
“Well, y’know, at least I’ll get to wrestle next week.”
“Hey, how come they don’t put you on anyways? You’re a great wrestler.” Adam asked, finally gearing a bigger response from Lemm. Shaking hands moved furiously, picking, itching, anything for a distraction. A watery laugh left them, and they looked Adam in the eyes.
“I’m on the women's roster.”
Nobody had heard from Lemmy all night after their interaction with The Hardyz and E&C. Matt and Jeff searched every corner of the arena, asked every single staff member and superstar, hell even random people just walking around outside, and nothing.
Jeff had never been more worried, but Lemmy had left their bag in the locker room which consoled him a little. Nonetheless, the distraction the Hardyz faced caused them to lose their match, which sure, was frustrating, but their best friend was missing so they had bigger things to worry about.
“Has anyone seen them?” Matt asked the first staff member he saw the second he walked backstage, eyebrows crinkled with worry and his breath heavy. The man stuttered over his words before quickly giving up and shaking his head at both of the boys who rushed past him and to their locker room, E&C shortly behind them. Christian and Adam had become great friends of the trio, and were pretty worried for Lemm too.
“Guys, I think we should just take a minute and breathe. I mean you’ve known them for so long, maybe if you just sat down for a sec you could think of where they might be?” Christian, always the smartest in any group, spoke to both of the Hardyz, but his reasoning only seemed to reach Matt, who took a quick breather as his hand moved to his forehead, rubbing back and forth.
“Okay. Okay, where the hell would Lemmy be?” Matt stressed from his place on the wooden locker seat, Jeff throwing himself onto the bench as well. The room filled with silence, E&C with no answer, and Jeff too worried to even think of one. Matt quickly noticed his brother's growing anxiety and spoke up again.
“Jeff.” He only sighed, leg bouncing and hands wringing together as his eyes burned holes into the floor underneath him. “Jeff, buddy, Lemm’s gonna be okay. We’ll be able to find them faster if you’re able to help us.”
Jeff gave his brother no response, and instead his head shot up, his body following shortly as he dove for Lemmy’s duffel bag and quickly started going through that.
“Should..should you really be going through that?” Christian asked, still standing next to the bench, Adam trying to peak at whatever Jeff was doing from beside his best friend. When Jeff didn’t answer, Christian looked over to Matt and pointed his hand in Jeff's general direction with an exasperated look. As close as E&C are, they’ve always fought like the brothers they are when one of the touches the others things.
“Oh, it’s fine, half of it’s probably his anyway.” Matt waved off, but his attention quickly returned to his brother stumbling up and towards the door. “Jeff? Jeff!”
The arena was right next to a boardwalk, covered in creaky wood, here and there a patch of new concrete and colorful sidewalk chalk of visiting children’s artwork, almost impossible to see but the moon shined brightly that night. The tides were high and the wind was strong, pushing the waves and the smell of freshwater onto the rickety benches, as old as the dead wood lifting up from under the feet of tourists in the daylight.
But there were no tourists, not this far into the night. Now, it was only Lemmy who sat with the cold metal outline of one of the wooden benches digging into their back, shaking hands holding a small blue book in one and a cigarette in the other. A sigh matching the stature of their hands leaves Lemmy.
Lemmy had found water calming for quite a while. They didn’t have to necessarily be in it, they just liked to appreciate the beauty of it. As a teenager, they had spent most of their days at the “Hardy Compound” as the boys like to call it for whatever odd reason, and late nights filled with campfires and dirt bikes always ended with someone being tossed in the mud filled pond. Or even if it was just Lemm and Jeff, they sat with their feet in the water and watched the stars, murmuring silly thoughts and questions as the frogs croaked.
Maybe that’s why Lemmy liked the water. They never did as a kid. They didn’t like much before North Carolina, except wrestling. The heat of their cigarette grew closer to their fingers and drew them from their daydreams. They took another drag before stubbing it out on the bench and placing it next to them, refusing to litter as if they hadn’t just blackened their lungs.
The crowd cheered from inside the arena.
Lemmy sighed, bitter in a way they wish they weren’t. Their neck fell back against the prickly, curved wood and their eyes fell upon the stars before closing with another sigh, wishing Jeff was there to watch the stars with them one more time. The hand that once held the cigarette grabbed the other end of the blue book, more of a journal really, trembling hands flipping scratchy pages in search for a specific page.
Lemmy pushed up from the bench and stalked towards the old pay phone, grabbing cold quarters from their jean pocket, trembling fingers pushing them into the machine with a clank and dialing the numbers in their little journal.
The phone rang for a couple times before rustling was heard on the other end along with a rough, muffled voice mumbling a questioned greeting.
“Uncle Scott?” Lemmy sounded desperate, voice raised in the way it gets before tears start pouring. The man on the other side answered quickly, clearly concerned.
“No, no, I’m okay, I promise.” They paused again, listening to the other end. A quiet, short laughter left them. “The boys are okay too, promise. I just, um, I just need your thoughts on some stuff.”
Jeff frantically pushed the arena’s metal door open, quickly being greeted by the cold breeze and the loud clanking of the door locking behind him. Still in his ring gear, the leather on his feet shined bright under the glare of the moon as they led his body to the brink of the boardwalk.
He stared down at the start of the wood and the contrasting concrete under his aching soles before he looked up to the darkened sky and let out a sigh. The stars were out- Lemmy probably was too. The stars were always theirs, the two of them. He scanned the edge of the boardwalk- with nothing but darkness in his view he spun, a silhouette outlined on a park bench now in sight, thighs to chest and chin to knees. The posture gave it away, his Lemm sat cuddled up by themselves with nothing but the blue book that had been missing from their duffel sat next to them.
“Oh, Jesus, Dallas.” Jeff cursed under his breath, already jogging his way over.
“Dallas!”
Lemmy’s head left their knees and whipped towards his voice as it quickly grew closer, rushing to their feet as he lewers in on them. Jeff's hand reaches for the back of their head, roughly pulling them to his body and causing Lemm to stumble back, Jeff moving with them.
“Oh, God, man, you scared the hell straight out of me, Dallas Austin.” His words were shakey as he held them tightly, afraid they would disappear if he even thought of letting go. Lemmy breathed in, enjoying the comfort of the washing waves and Jeff’s embrace, and the dark sky with its beautiful stars, and wrapped their arms around him, holding him just as tight as he did to them.
“Don’t ever do that again. Please.” He whispered into the harsh wind as Lemm shoved their face further into his neck.
“M’sorry. Know I shouldn’ta left like that, just had to-had to get outta there.” Their voice was muffled against his skin, growing tighter as they stuttered through an apology. Jeff loosened his grip, hands moving to gently grasp their upper arms, all of his worry obvious on his face.
‘Is this about whatever that was earlier? You wanna talk about what's goin’ on now?” His voice was gentler than it seemed like it ever could be. Lemmy’s eyelids crinkled shut, head frantically shaking. They refused to look him in the eyes and lie like that.
“I’m fine, promise. I’ve been upset ‘cause of booking, I just needed a cool down.” Not necessarily a lie, just not all of the truth.
“You sure, Lemm?” Jeff dipped his head down, now at their level as his concern grew at their refusal to look him in the eyes.
“Really, I’m fine, Jeff. It’s just a little upsetting not getting booked and I’ve just been missing home n’ Uncle Scott so I thought I'd give him a call.” Again, not the truth but also not a lie.
“Alright, I guess.” Jeff finally relented but was obviously still skeptical. He brought them back into a hug with a deep, worried breath. “Y’know, you scared all of us pretty bad. You’re important, Dallas. Don’t forget that.”
Lemmy’s eyes held a glint of something he couldn’t recognize, conflict hidden beneath their resolve.
“I know. I know, I just needed to call Uncle Scott.” Lemmy repeated their alibi but their words were shaky, hinting at the emotion lingering behind. Jeff only hums in response, pulling Lemmy closer as he shivers in the wind.
Noticing his tenseness Lemmy pushed their hands under his shirt- not that it was much, he had run out in his ring gear which had only consisted of one of the mesh shirts that night- and pressed their palms to his lower back. Their attempts to make Jeff warmer clearly didn’t work very well, he only arched away from their unknowingly cold hands and screeched their name.
“Sorry! Sorry, I thought my hands were warm, sorry, Jeffro.” Lemmy laughs, genuine happiness for the first time in much longer they would’ve liked to admit. “Maybe we should go back inside before one of us catches a cold.” They muttered into the harsh fabric of the bright yellow mesh covering his shoulder.
Before Jeff could even consider moving inside, the metal door clinkered open. Matt with E&C following shortly behind him shuffled out from it in much more comfortable clothes than what Jeff still wore, his shirt making it very easy for the duo to find Jeff and Lemm.
“You guys suck.” Neither could tell if Matt’s exclamation was sarcastic or not.
“We asked just about every single person if they’d seen either of you leave! We even asked Mankind, do you know how weird that guy is?” Adam playfully scolded the two with his usual grin.
“Hey! Mick might be a little…unusual, but he’s real nice!” Lemmy stuck up for their old friend, playfully yelling back. Matt and Jeff’s confusion was obvious, eyebrows furrowing.
“How do you know that guy, Lemm?” Jeff asked.
“Oh, uh, my dad wrestled with him for a bit in ECW. I’ve met him a couple times.” Lemmy brushed it off with a shrug.
“They were in ECW at the same time? I thought your dad left to come over to WWF just a couple months before Mick returned back to ECW.” Matt and his all-knowing wrestling knowledge questioned.
“Oh, really? I must have confused him for someone else then.” Lemmy spoke almost frantically with a nervous laughter attached. An awkward silence blanketed over the five as Lemmy looked down to their hands, picking at the already chipping nail polish Jeff had haphazardly painted on (so they could be matching). The others stared over at them, still confused.
“Um, anyways, we should probably get heading to the hotel. We brought your guys’ stuff so we wouldn’t have to go back inside.” Christian spoke up, taking Lemmy’s duffel off of his shoulder, Adam doing the same with Jeff’s. Jeff and Lemmy said their thanks while grabbing their bags. Jeff took Lemm’s from them before they had the chance to put it over their shoulder and held it with his own.
“I can carry my bag, dude.”
“I don’t want you runnin’ off on me again, Lemm. Now come on, I’m tired, man.” Jeff threw the bags over his shoulder and started walking to their car. Lemmy rolled their eyes from behind him before stumbling to catch up and bumped their shoulders together, sending both of them wobbling in opposite directions. Jeff grabbed their arm closest to him and pulled Lemm back to his side. The three men watched from behind them as Lemmy cackled while they tripped over their own feet and fell straight into Jeff, his own laughter quickly adding to the mix.
“Y’know, I thought they liked each other but I didn’t know it was this bad!” Adam looked at Matt with an exasperated smile, Christian agreeing from his side with laughter.
“Oh, yeah. You’ll get used to that too. They've been like this since Lemmy got to junior year, I think.”
Finally arriving at the hotel, Jeff and Lemm- who are both very bad drivers, Lemmy out of recklessness and Jeff out of blindness- pile out of the back with everyone’s bag while Matt goes to check in with the receptionist and E&C roughhoused out beside the car. They had played a game of rock paper scissors earlier to see who had to be shoved in the back, back seat and Edge lost, like he always does.
Jeff stared up at the sky, admiring the stars with Lemmy’s hand carelessly in his, every once in a while pointing out a constellation to them with a tug to their hand. Lemmy stared down at the ground with sleepy eyes, head leaning against Jeff’s shoulder- much more comfortable now against his thin, black sweatshirt than before. As much as they loved the stars, having Jeff was enough at the moment.
“Matt booked the rooms right?” Christian asked through a yawn and a sleepy grin, gaining the two’s attention. Jeff nodded at him, confusion once again finding its way to his face. “He mentioned something about two rooms and I figured that it would be you three and us that would get roomed together ‘cause, I don’t know, that’s just how it is. I just wanted to make sure that’s what’s happening” Christian explained, Adam snickering at his rambling from besides him.
“Yeah, that’s all good. That’s what we usually do anyway.” Lemmy spoke with a smile, happy with the arrangement. “Actually, usually we only get one room and we all shove into it with a couple other guys but I guess it’s a special occasion. Or Matt just wanted his own bed for a night.” Jeff and Lemmy always shared, they’d just been doing it for so long it became weird not to. At first Lemmy got shoved into both of the boys’ beds and they switched every week, but Matt had grown sick of their endless moving and sickled them on Jeff. E&C clearly didn’t think it was as normal as they did, Adams eyebrows raising at their casualness of the subject while Jeff shoved Lemm under his arm as they spoke, the cold reaching him again.
Matt walked back to the car with two keys, throwing E&C one, who are quick to scatter to their room after a quick goodbye, the trio doing the same.
Lemmy opened the door and practically fell on one of the beds, Jeff shortly doing the same right on top of them. Matt tossed his backpack onto the other bed and announced, though probably unheard through Lemmy’s groans under Jeff, that he was going to take a shower.
“Jeffro, there’s a whole ‘nother bed, you ain’t gotta be on top of me.” Lemmy muffled into the bed under them. Jeff groaned but moved over, leaving the both of them squished on the twin bed meant for one.
“S’too cold for that, man.” He pouted over at Lemm, who only laughed at his brattyness.
“You’d think all of those North Carolinian winters would make you a little more warm blooded. C’mere, quit bein’ a baby.”
“M’not bein’ a baby, it’s cold, man!” Jeff pouted some more, but did as Lemmy said and moved back on top of them but this time with Lemmy not being suffocated. Jeff searched for their hand under the blankets, fingers locking in between fingers. His hand was as warm as they always were, but Lemmy didn’t say anything about his claims of being cold.
“Night, Jeffro. Love you, buddy.” Their free hand traveled up his back, trailing back up and down in a soothing pattern.
“Night, Lemm. Love you, too.”
Jeff fell asleep quickly, just as quickly as he always managed after a long day. Light snores left his lips from his seemingly comfortable spot, resting on their shoulder. Though Jeff slept seamlessly, Lemmy didn't at all. Instead, they thought. They thought of their career, and of The Hardyz. Of the new girl joining Matt and Jeff next week, Amy. Of WWF, and E&C. Of Karma, and Willow, and the nights in gymnasiums with no shoes. Mostly, they thought of Jeff.
They thought of what would happen when Jeff and Matt’s career continued to soar and they were left behind, far, far behind. Maybe Jeff would replace them with someone more…normal. More attractive, sweeter. Less complicated. But when Jeff took a deep breath in his sleep and the hand held in theirs grabbed just a little tighter, the future didn’t seem to matter much anymore. Lemmy watched the stars out of the window for the rest of the night.
I know this took me forever but I also have some of chapter eight done and the body of chapter nine figured out. I feel like I’ve definitely grown as a writer since the last time i wrote for bbs but idk might just be feelin stuff. Anyways, ignore the whole mick foley and stone cold not being in ECW together they were but shhhh its for the plottt. Also very tempted to start an mjf series but i have this and a Nikki sixx series already that I’m bad enough at keeping up with so i think I’ll unfortunately stick to one shots for now. Might keep my inbox closed for just a lil bit longer so i can breathe for a sec lol i hate school
So Y’know how sometimes when you write something and it comes out completely diff than what you wanted? That’s kinda what happened for Lemm’s backstory at first, so I did go back and change some things that didn’t really make sense or just things that I wanted to change loll for instance, uncle Scott is now a thing and if you dont wanna go back and reread this shit that’s ok cuz i also wouldn’t want to it shouldn’t be that different. Should i write more about Lemm’s back story? Or just give y’all like a basic run down? Get in my inbox rn and talk to me 😡 idc ab what just talkkkk to meeeeeeeeee
I actually hate the ending but i am tired and over this y’all

ive never actually watched a stardom match and im really bad at learning new things, so how would you recommend watching matches? and do you have recs for what matches to watch first?
AHH I'm so so happy to hear you're even thinking about checking them out I love getting asks like this!
Okay so idk what your familiarity is with pro wrestling but if you've like never watched wrestling at all my friend wrote a guide to starting with Japanese pro wrestling here. It's targetted towards people also learning Japanese and much more comprehensive promotion wise than just Stardom so the part you'd want to read is the one labeled "How プロレス storytelling works".
As for how to watch Stardom like the literal steps of how to find Stardom matches, I answered that in my sort-of beginner's guide here. (I talked about a couple other companies as well but me being me it's mostly Stardom.) tl;dr kind of the only way to watch Stardom matches in full and in decent quality is just paying for a sub to Stardom World. There are pirate sites but they tend to only have big shows and top out at 15 year old cellphone quality, and there are highlights (though I think those have become more rare?) and the weekly show on youtube if you're really not sure about the like $8, but World has everything.
As far as specific matches I have sort of two answers for this. I did, pretty recently, recommend a bunch of random matches in this post right here, and stand by those as matches I really enjoyed. Also I have since watched the QQ vs OT cagematch I mentioned there and can confirm it owns and I think the emotions will still come through even if you didn't follow the whole story.
However. That is where the second answer comes in - following stories. To be quite frank I think watching old wrestling matches is overrated, I think most of the fun is in following along with wrestling; wrestling is something happening right now. This is probably an ironic answer from someone who is like chronically a month behind bc I can't stand to ever skip a show but I am who I am. Maybe it's more accurate to say I think rewatching matches is overrated.
But anyway the simplest way to put it is my rec for matches to watch first is matches that you think look interesting that have happened pretty recently. Natsupoi and Saori Anou had a strap match on July 2nd, which is just as gay as it sounds but not in the way it sounds, I haven't watched it yet but I've heard good things. The 5 Star Grand Prix, Stardom's yearly big singles tournament, just began last weekend on the 23rd, and is a great way to get introduced to most of the wrestlers. I know the time commitment of a wrestling show can be daunting, I'm very familiar on a personal level with the way it eats time, but I think you can still get a lot from just watching a little if you can't get through everything. If you pick one person in each block and only follow their matches, you'll still get a little snippet of every other competitor to see if they hook you, y'know? Caveat if you do begin with that show though that the main event ended with a real injury, which obviously isn't fun to see happen.
If you decide you're enjoying it and want to try and start following along, my translation blog is here (it's not exhaustive and I'm behind with some stuff but I do what I can) and my asks and DMs are always open if you have questions about any stories or characters or anything.

W H O A M I ?
FULL NAME: Wyatt Kane Finley OCCUPATION: Currently unemployed and half-heartedly job hunting AGE: 31 PRONOUNS: He/him SPECIES: Werewolf PACK: Warwick HOMETOWN: Hammersmith, London — speaks with an rp (received pronunciation) accent and often drops his 'g's because it's comfortable and he's lazy. RELATIONSHIP STATUS: Single, but he's not really one for labels. SEXUALITY: Frequently internalising romantic fantasies of beautiful men.
(tw: violence, mentions of injuries, mentions of blood)
P E R S O N A L I T Y
AGGRESSIVE. Swing first, ask questions later; Wyatt is the kind to resolve most disagreements through a few bloodied knuckles, bruised cheeks, and broken ribs. CHEEKY. He is always pushing his luck. He has one of those smiles that pulls the sun out of hiding and fills the hole he'd been metaphorically digging himself back up with dirt. You can count on him to turn a sentimental moment into a joke because it'll kill him if he doesn't make light of something serious. FLAKEY. Do not trust him with time-sensitive tasks. Don't even trust him to show up on time. He'll show, because he doesn't make empty promises, but you can bet he'll be late. IMPULSIVE. No, he didn't think through the consequences of that run-and-gun decision. Everything seems like a good idea when you're incapable of thinking more than a few seconds ahead on any given day and are prone to making decisions with your heart, rather than your head. LOYAL. He's not great at expressing meaningful feelings, but he can certainly show you. If you've earned his trust, his loyalty is undying and trumps all of his flakey traits — if you need him, he will drop everything to be there for you. Any time, any place, by any means. RECKLESS. He's a fire guy. He's a booze guy. He's a five-finger-discount guy. He doesn't have any intention to hurt anyone, or anything, in the process, but damn is he charming when he apologises. WITTY. Loves a punchline, and a little attention as a result. Also loves poking fun at those he loves. Gentle bullying is one of his love languages at this point (as is biting, but that's a conversation for a different trait).
B I O G R A P H Y
Wyatt is the youngest of two Finley boys and grew up in a single-parent household. His father is mystery that he doesn't care to solve beyond knowing that's where his werewolf gene had come from. He's hellishly protective of his biological and chosen families and has a tendency to devote his blind loyalty to those he loves. So maybe he's got a few daddy issues sprinkled in there. Maybe. He is a born-werewolf, much to his dismay, and grew up in London. He found 'home' in a little pack that adopted the Finleys right in after catching word of their dynamic and of boys that would need a safe space to come into who, and what, they were. Raised by his own kind, he learned to play hard, work hard, and fight harder. Something of an athlete and a scrappy wrestler, Wyatt made a living out of it during his adolescent and young-adult life. Mostly because he'd been talked into it by packmates as a means of redirecting restless energy. It kept his knuckles clean and steered the boy away from petty fights. He travelled away from home often — for matches and championships that eventually spurred on an endless cycle of temporary friendships. Ones that blossomed into situationships, and eventually fizzled into early-morning fantasies when he needed to travel again. Learning to deal with the wet cracking of bones and shredding of flesh every time the moon turned full was, in his words, fuckin' grim. It prevented him from joining teams and stoked the isolation that his genetics brought on with a hot poker, which only made his wolf mind froth at the chance to rip and tear, limb from limb. He tried to keep contact with his loved ones as best he could, but Wyatt had always been more of a physical than digital communicator. Sprinkled with a little self-sabotage and self-loathing, he was used to being alone by the time he struck his mid-twenties. Walked through towns with a sour expression, busted knuckles, and his head down. Where no one knew his name, or his werewolf affliction. Life brought him to Port Leiry after a second tear to his MCL in three years and far too many concussions to continue a high-contact sport. He spent most of his recovery befriending a member of the Warwick pack, who quickly introduced him to the rest of the loyalists. God did Wyatt fit right in with most of their core beliefs, and learned new ways to appreciate the brutality the moon granted him. Four years in Port Leiry built him the routines of a new life, and a new outlook. He still travelled for work — commentating sparring and wrestling matches rather than participating in them — but always found his way back to Warwick. Eventually a rift in the pack saw a blowout of snapping jaws and bloodied claws until Wyatt was following his friend away from home blindly. It made perfect sense to him in that moment; Wyatt owed his life in Port Leiry to them. So he left with them. But it became clear it was yet an impulsive decision made with his heart, rather than his head. And one that left him alone when they, too, walked out on him. Returning to Port Leiry, and at odds with the Warwick pack, is probably a mistake. But Wyatt misses home. Misses being part of something bigger than himself. Misses that something, or someone, that could take his mind off the weight of the wolf on his shoulders. The kind hand at the back of his neck and the warm voice that told him everything'd be okay. He misses home.
W A N T E D
Hear the dogs howling out of key - Chosen family, for the most part, rather than just pack mates. Someone(s) that will run with him, fight with him, and stand by him the same way he'd stand by them. In the night we'll wish this never ends - Past loves, FWBs, hookups, crushes; He's got a big heart and a cheeky charm that disguises how he loves wholly, deeply, and fiercely. Whether or not he's told you, or himself, that he loves you is another discussion entirely. Or maybe it's just not that deep. He's not much for labels. Now it seems I'm out there on my own - He's probably met you in passing before. Maybe at a championship, or a bar or pub afterwards. Or maybe you crossed paths with him in the middle of his self-inflicted ostracism. Either way, he could use a few friendly faces that accept a different version of him than they might've known before. Could be any frontier, any hemisphere - Was it you he followed away from Port Leiry?** Or you he promised he'd never leave? I said I was the cops and your husband's in jail - Practical joker extraordinaire. Maybe you thought it was funny. Maybe you wanted to beat the shit out of him for remotely flipping the breaker in your house for a week straight. Might want to check those downlights on the fritz.
** part of a more complex WC.

Rebbie's Wrestling Show Reviews - RevPro: Live in Southampton 28 (11/2/2024)
For the first time since I started this whole blog, I went to a live wrestling show! So I thought, why not give a brief review. This was one of RevPro’s weekly shows, and the go-home before High Stakes in Crystal Palace (which I am also attending!!!), so for those unfamiliar with these bigger indies, it's essentially their version of a tv taping. These shows and their big shows are all available on RevPro OnDemand. The company is known for a strong relationship with New Japan Pro Wrestling, being where they send trainees on excursion and in the past frequently seeing major NJPW stars hold the British Heavyweight Title.
Pre-Show
These shows are a breeze for me to reach down at The 1865 in Southampton, and always feature a pretty lairy crowd. It's a music venue, with the stage featuring some chairs with a few more on most sides of the ring. Wrestlers enter through a small walkway in the far corner of the building with a projected screen on the stage. It's an intimate and ever so slightly awkward venue, but I absolutely love it, and it's so easy to attend. Without further ado, let's get into the show, as the ever wonderful Francesca introduced the action.
Robbie X def. Joshua James by pinfall in 11:54
This was a really hot match to start things off. Robbie X is really popular with this RevPro crowd, and he earns it by always putting on a show. He’s facing Mustafa Ali in Crystal Palace, which is sure to be a highlight. On this night though, he was up against Joshua James, one of the Contenders. These are essentially the RevPro own guys. Something I love about RevPro crowds is how much they get behind the Contenders. They’re one of our own! Both men got a great reaction, and this was an awesome big vs small match. Josh James had a great power game on display, and Robbie is an awesome seller, so this went really well. It was never slow, just all action, and maybe my favourite match of the night in the end. Robbie is able to get the win when he hits the Handspring Cutter out of a James pounce, which was a counter of a previous handspring cutter attempt. That was pretty fun! The night is off to a great start!
3.5 STARS OUT OF 5
I feel it pertinent to mention it here as James sported the memorial armband and t-shirt, but this is the first show I’ve seen since Mad Kurt sadly passed away late last year. Mad Kurt was on the first few shows I saw in The 1865, and made an immediate impression. I’d known him from Twitter and had no idea what to expect from his wrestling, and I was charmed by his mixture of silly comedy and serious wrestling acumen. I was heartbroken by the news, and I’m so sorry to all those who knew him for their loss. There were multiple tributes to him throughout, and he is extremely missed. Mad Kurt Forever. If you want to support his family monetarily for the various costs in this trying time, you can do so via the GoFundMe here.
“Flash” Morgan Webster def. Will Kaven via pinfall in 10:12
The Modfather, one half of the British Tag Team Champions with Mark Andrews/Dani Luna, takes on Will Kaven of… PORTSMOUTH?! For those unaware, Portsmouth is the next city over from Southampton, so Kaven always gets a strong reaction from us Southampton fans… Portsmouth is actually more local to me originally than Southampton but shhh don't tell anyone!! This is another good match, a pair of guys who can mix high flying with a more grounded game, and we see all sides of that in this one. Webster is highly popular, and Kaven is highly unpopular, and it makes for a fun match. I think the crowd may have been a smidge tired here, but they still had plenty of energy! Webster gets the win with the Shadows Over Malice swanton bomb.
3 STARS OUT OF 5
Anthony Ogogo def. David Francisco by TKO in 14:52
Speaking of loving the Contenders, here’s David Francisco! We love David in RevPro, and the big man from Portugal was just as popular on this night. There was even a great chant I don't think I’d heard before of “Francisco” replacing “You are gold” in Spandau Ballet’s Gold. That’s inspired! His opponent was AEW’s Anthony Ogogo, the former Olympic bronze medallist boxer. For some reason, he still has The Factory’s logo on his jacket despite the group disbanding almost a year ago. This one was all about Ogogo, and he worked well as a heel, jibing back and forth with the crowd who had lots of banter for the “Pound Shop David Haye” as they chanted. He had a pretty good match with Francisco, who was predictably over like rover, and had a few nearfalls that could have been an upset. In the end though, despite showing resilient including a subtle rope break that fooled Ogogo, Francisco was knocked out, with the Union Jack being draped on him by the olympian. Fun if unremarkable match.
3 STARS OUT OF 5
Post-match, Ogogo got on the mic, bragging about his big American house, fighting with the crowd (including a passing fan and his middle finger), and most importantly, deriding Ricky Knight Jr. for being “cocky”. However, RKJ was actually here, and he met Ogogo in the ring! They had a war of words, with RKJ again challenging Ogogo for High Stakes. He promises to take all the vision in Ogogo’s damaged eye. Both men invoke the names of each other's families, and it’s when Ogogo says RKJ’s newborn daughter takes after him in being “butters, mate” as he put it that we get a big brawl. The backstage area clears out to seperate them, with great difficulty, but they are eventually split, with Ogogo seemingly going out the wrong door. I say this because during the next match, he quietly trots from there to the entrance way and heads to the back.
Luke Jacobs def. Yuto Nakashima by pinfall in 12:17
Beef! This is a clash of two big men, and the crowd were excited. We have here the first wrestler on the card that I’ve never seen in any capacity, that being Yuto Nakashima! One half of Young Blood passed me a few times pre-show and he is a big guy! Off the bat, love his vibe! A lot of personality and aura from him, as he enters with a big chain and wild hair. Jacobs also heads to the ring and looks in great shape! These two started a little slow in my opinion, but they ramped up and this one got pretty good by the end! Big strikes, and the highlights were some gnarly headbutts as these two had a colossal tussle. This also saw one of my favourite spots they do at these RevPro shows, as they cleared the chairs in front of me for Yuto to throw Jacobs clattering through them. Jacobs is able to secure the win in the end though, hitting Yuto with a great lariat. I was even further sold on Yuto with his post match sell, as he stumbled wildly all the way to the back, falling into the crowd and ring multiple times. He was also prone to a dance any chance he got the whole show long, and I love him for that.
3.5 STARS OUT OF 5
Intermission
This brought an end to the first half of the show, bringing a short intermission. Ogogo made conversation near the bar and took a few photos with fans, and Sha Samuels & Morgan Webster joined the merch table, taking photos and selling their wares. I was able to meet them both, and bought a shirt and print from Webster, despite some hassle with my card! I forgot to get a photo though, so I’ll have to see them again at another show! Both were lovely and shortly after that, our second half began.
Oskar Leube vs. JJ Gale ended in a no contest in 9:57
We came back with the other half of Young Blood taking on the other half of the High Stakes match between Luke Jacobs and JJ Gale. This match was really fun! This was my first time seeing Leube, and I was extremely impressed with his work. The man walked past me a couple times during the show and he is TALL. He uses that size well in the ring but is really smooth with everything he does. JJ Gale was a great opponent for him too, using his quickness to build a pretty cool match. Sadly, this one ended pretty quickly with a no contest, as Mark Trew & Kieron Lacey attacked both men, even wielding chairs. Yuto returns to help his partner, but he’s overwhelmed by the tag team. In the end, it’s Luke Jacobs who clears the way, wanting Gale at his best for the big show the following week. They end up brawling anyway though, as Young Blood stand off with Trew & Lacey.
3 STARS OUT OF 5
Mark Trew & Kieron Lacey def. Harry Milligan & Michael Oku (w/ Amira) by pinfall in 13:42
Trew & Lacey are already in the ring as the following match gets announced, with their opponents meeting them for their match. There’s a big “Mad Kurt” chant to start this one, which was touching. This was a decently fun match, with the champion and his younger ally contesting with the nefarious Trew & Lacey. Trew losing his beanie also elicits a big reaction from this crowd. This one is moving along decently enough, until Trew & Lacey bring Amira into the path of Oku’s shooting star press over the top rope to the outside. Amira’s down, and a distraught Oku carries her to the back for attention… Bit of an odd move to choose for that spot if you ask me, but who am I to judge? But Trew & Lacey capitalised off this numbers advantage to get the win over Milligan. Post-match, Young Blood take their chance to strike as Trew & Lacey continue to beat up Milligan. This brings out Oku, who’s keeping an eye on Young Blood. Leube gets on the mic and demands a tag team match at High Stakes! Exciting stuff.
3 STARS OUT OF 5
Cameron Khai def. Richard Holliday by pinfall in 12:59
We were breathing rarefied air next, when Richard Holliday from Connecticut, America came to the ring. He grabbed the mic from Francesca and began to introduce himself. He says he’s familiar with our game as a UK crowd, and said if we want to get ourselves over, we have to make a chant for him. He isn’t pleased with the crowd’s chants of “Dick”, saying he thought we were more original than that, as he finds one fan willing to sing his praises in song form. Sadly, I can’t for the life of me recall what the song is called, so you’ll just have to imagine the tune. It’s here that Holliday’s foe comes out: Cameron Khai! Khai is a really talented young wrestler who I’ve seen a couple times now, and he has had some absolutely great matches. One to watch for the future as he develops further! This is a decent match, but I think it’s pretty heavily overrun by fan chants. They were certainly entertaining though! Chants of “Dick Vacation” anger Holliday, as well as “You’ve got one fan, and he’s shit!” chants. There’s a fun moment as Holliday does some corner strikes, each punctuated by a call of “You’re not shit” directed at his loyal fan. What a heel! Not all of the chants were great though, you can imagine some of the humour derived from Richard’s first name. The chants really did distract from the in-ring action though, which I can’t imagine was desired. The finish comes when Khai is able to roll up Holliday with a small package pin for the win. Holliday sulks in the ring post-match, refusing to leave, which is a thread we’ll come back to shortly.
3 STARS OUT OF 5
Seeing Holliday for the first time, I was pretty impressed with his charisma. You can definitely see the comparisons to his former tag partner MJF in his promo skills. He was solid in the ring too, definitely doing his part for the match. Sadly, his promo riling up got out of hand. Excited to see what more he can do though!
Spike Trivet def. Sha Samuels by pinfall in 14:17
Richard Holliday is still in the ring as Francesca announces our main event, which comes with a small video package and everything! How fancy! It’s Sha Samuels intervention that ousts Holliday, with the East End Butcher clearing him from the ring with his entrance. Holliday lingers outside, seeming unhappy with this from Samuels. Trivet is out next, being understandably booed for being Spike Trivet. This grudge match, built from Trivet’s general attitude and attacking Samuels at Uprising, is a decent match! A fun spot is Samuels going to use his scarf, which the referee takes away, but Samuels using this chance to use his braces on Trivet. He gets as good as he gives! There’s some back and forth decent stuff, until Holliday returns to the ring side area. Samuels takes exception to this, as does the referee, which allows Trivet the chance to grab a weapon from the earlier discovered toolbox, and get the win over Samuels.
3 STARS OUT OF 5
Post match, Holliday and Trivet argue over beating up Samuels, before they decide to both do it. This brings out Cameron Khai and Flash Morgan Webster to even the odds, with all 5 men brawling all over the place! Right in front of me, Webster and Trivet went flying into the merch section! I couldn’t follow it all! It was a pretty fun ending after a few matches with a little less pizazz. Samuels ends the show on the mic cursing out his enemies.
Post-Show
With our show over, I went over to the merch table once again, this time getting a signed print from JJ Gale, where I had to get his PayPal for payment as I had no cash, as well as meeting Young Blood. The pair of them were lovely, and I actually remembered to get a selfie with them! I also bought a signed print of Yuto, as they only took cash and I only had £5. They better come back to Southampton so I can get a signed print with Oskar!
Final Thoughts
Overall, this was a pretty fun show. I’ve certainly seen bigger barnburners on these Southampton live shows, but this was good fun ahead of High Stakes. There wasn’t too much build to the big show, but look, I had fun. What more do you want from me? I think this show gets a high 3 STARS OUT OF 5 from me!

I think I've narrowed down my issues with Darby's booking to like. Two major points,
First of all: Unfocused story direction. Darby's character is super unique and has a TON of potential depth, but that depth only comes out when he's put into a good storyline that leads him in the right direction. His booking as of late has lead to some really great Matches, but I feel like the story element has been kinda weak.
One thing I noticed is a few times, especially with the Jay Lethal/Jeff Jarrett shit, it Felt like they were building up to something cool, but then in the end it was just like. Nah they win and everything's good now :)
The only explanation I can think of for it- and let me preface this by saying I don't mean for this to deride Sting at all I love that man- is that Sting has said before that he hates playing a heel and doesn't want to. A lot of those potential story buildups seemed to be leading to a Sting turn, so my thought is that maybe they were Trying to push that but he didn't go for it. Which, fine, but it's kinda weird that it made it on TV anyway if that's the case?
Regardless, I'm hoping that since Sting is retiring soon, once that's finished they start trying some new stuff with him in terms of story.
My second thing is more technical, in that. I feel like Darby, unfortunately, ends up wrestling the same match a lot of the time?
Dont get me wrong his past few have been Stellar, especially that match with Kushida. But in between those, there was a stretch of time where I felt like we were just getting a really surface level version of his in-ring shit. Like the thing is, Darby style is primarily focused on high-flying and taking intense bumps, yeah, but what a lot of people forget is that he is a VERY skilled technical wrestler! One of my favorite parts about him is when he gets to pull that out. It's an entire upside to his character, the fact that he can be so incredibly quick and agile in his actual wrestling, that I feel AEW has been under-utilizing.
My theory for that one is that AEW has been mostly using him against bigger opponents with the same fighting-from-underneath story, which is fine, he does that well; but I think if you don't mix that up with more opponents like Kushida, who don't have too much of a power advantage so they can focus on other skills, it starts to get a little stale and his risk-taking feels less exciting.
Anyway, like I said, with Sting's retiring soon it seems like we're gonna get a new chapter for Darby's character, and I hope they tighten up his booking for that.

Prompt# 5: Barbarous
"For Ala Mhigo!"
The Highlander across that dusty pit clashed sword against shield as he shouted, had it not been wrapped in skins it would have raised an unholy clatter. Stripped bare to the waist, muscle glistening from the oils he had applied before the match, he proudly displayed the tattoos he was far too young to have earned rightfully. Marks of the Fist. Symbols of clans and warriors long since passed generations before either of them walked the star. Katja had seen many such wrestlers in her time, anointing themselves before a match to send lunging hands slipping away. And more than her share of young Ala Mhigans covering themselves in that lost pride.
A daughter of Gyr Abania, but not of the city-state, she offered nothing in reply to that. No echoed cry back as the crowd would have undoubtedly loved to hear. In their eyes one Highlander was much the same as another, seeing just what her opponent chose to put on display. The spectators hardly noticed, much less cared, but the man did. Boy, really. He snarled at her, pointing his blade even as he adopted a stance full of empty confidence. Body turned toward her with that weapon-arm leading. Worthless for either attack or defense with the way he turned hips and shoulders in that exaggerated motion.
The boy was a performer. But not like her.
"Come now, sister! Will you not praise our motherland before we fight?"
Their wagons had always been the acrobat's territory for the Revel do not own land. A proud declaration set forth by her great-great-many great-grandsire who had spat in the face of Anshelm when he once sought to unify the clans. 'I don't much fancy kneeling to you as a king!' "And I don't much fancy you claiming the land of my kingdom!"
At least so far as the story was told to her.
True or not, the reality was clear since she first drew breath. Travel. Perform. Travel. Perform. Free of the monotony of tilling or mining, seeing the same stretch of sky amongst the same peaks that the villagers they visited were shackled to. To be tied down to one place was the fate of stone or tree, not a Revel. Sacrificing the chance to travel with the winds in exchange for dubious safety and security? Who could ever stomach such a decision?
It would have been inevitable, with war ended and life returning to some modicum of normalcy for a good deal of her fellow Gyr Abanians - Ala Mhigans included - to turn back to those existences she would never be able to. The call of the road was too strong, especially without anything left to tie Katja to the land. Not that any would visit the Grand Revel for a single performer, even were the tents and wagons not long since burned to ash. The clan had always been the show.
And the Garleans had drawn the final curtain.
That continued silence incensed her opponent, who came on swinging even before the woman could take advantage of his foolishness. It was all the crowd wanted anyway, and at least their coin would be good even if her opponent was far from it. Seeing a vicious battle between two 'Ala Mhigans' was what they had paid money to see, completely unable to grasp the differences between the two. On some level, Katja understood. The boy before her was just as alien to her as they were to the gathered observers.
She would give them the show they wanted. Bloody and violent, showcasing the sort of grit and brutality that the allied countries had whispered of ever since the ill-fated Autumn War brought them into direct conflict. It was simple enough to give them exactly what they wanted to see. Lucrative as well.

I completely forgot that Best of Super Jrs started today and I’m trying to catch up. I’m only halfway through today’s card and not much has been spoiled for me, so here are some heavily-dated thoughts on what I saw so far:
- Seeing Clark Connors join Bullet Club and go full heel was a bit of a shocker to me, but he pulls off the bad guy look very well (that hot pink he’s sporting is lookin good too, ngl). I think this move was just a way to get rid of that “wild rhino” schtick he got into when he graduated from Young Lions, which I wholeheartedly support. “Big horn energy”…lol. Lmao, even.
- It’s cool to see Ryusuke Taguchi do some “serious” wrestling against Taiji Ishimori. He’s great as a comedy wrestler and had lots of fun moments teaming up with Clark Connors last year (especially since I ALMOST got to see Connor’s bare ass…maybe next time), but it’s great to see that he can hold his own in an actual wrestling performance. Interested in seeing more from him.
- I didn’t expect much going into the KUSHIDA vs DOUKI match. I don’t know much about KUSHIDA, and I do kinda like DOUKI (he’s the only one out of Just 5 Guys I like…yeah, not even SANADA). But I see why KUSHIDA is a fan favorite now. This match was great, seeing these two do reversal after reversal after reversal. Definitely the most exciting match I’ve seen so far.
- As much as I wanted Francesco Akira to win against Master Wato (mostly because Akira is a precious little man and he’s just so goddamn cute and I love looking at his precious face jfc), I’m actually glad Wato is off to a strong start at BoSJ. I feel he was sorta pushed into the background all last year, being mostly featured as a tag partner to some…*ahem* “bigger names.” Wato is a great wrestler and I really want to see him in more singles action going forward. At the very least, he’ll have some time to shine during Super Jrs.
- So I haven’t seen Speedball Mike Bailey in action on BoSJ yet, but I’m looking forward to seeing how he does in New Japan. I’ve been watching some of his stuff in the indie scene; he’s a bit of a dork IMO, but he’s got charisma and talent. Maybe he’ll become a wrestling darling out there much like Alex Zayne was last year. That’d be neat.
And…that’s all I saw at the moment. Like I said, I’m trying to catch up, and with a new card starting in basically a few hours as of this post, I’ll be even further behind. Keep those gifs coming.
