The Full Metal Alchemist Live Action Movie Part 8: Watch This Episode Covered in Butts be the Only One Not Flagged by Tumblr
Gonna be risky business and not only upload all of these caps the way I screenshot them--which has just SO MANY poorly CGI’d butts but also gonna do it on the Tumblr Drafts folder, which I have been assured works now.
I’m so worried about so many things, but considering all the fears I have about like...everything else in the world right now...I guess I’ll take a risk on tumblr.
Edit: I cannot believe that I had 8ish episodes of Kaiba’s tall dueling tower get flagged but not this movie. I just....wow I cannot.
So anyway, last we left off, General Hakuro stepped in and was like “Hi guys, you like my wily plans that no one in their right mind would have ever guessed???”
Yo remember this part of the anime? Where the bodies drop from the ceiling and it’s a hunk out of the final arc--it’s here. In this movie. This movie that can’t possibly afford to do that. Lets get some CGI animated bodies in here ASAP.
(see some texture regrets under the cut)
It’s like a Monet, as the Mean Girls say, because far away and shrinked to 500 pixels this looks kinda neat. They sort of look more like those slime ball that grow in the back of your throat rather than human bodies, but they still look pretty gross hanging up there.
But then.....we zoom in. Remember again that this was full screen on my computer, and at one point was on a freakin movie screen. This level of 3d...was on a movie theater screen.
The mind boggles. The mind boggles!
Like as you know, I am an artist, and I’ve dabbled in...basically everything in my pursuit to make a dollar...and I have taken about 2 years of classes in 3D art with Maya and all those. I’m not thaaat great at it--I’m much more an illustrator/painter--but I feel like I have that reference point. Can I just say--the model is...fine...you can do a lot with layers of bump maps so you don’t need a truly detailed model (not like they did that, because they didn’t do that, but I can figure that maybe they had an intention to do that and forgot?)
But, there’s no connection of the wires to bodies. They just kinda float? The bodies are also all the same shiny-ness? To the point that it looks like a copy paste? (I don’t think it is, the wires are slightly different on a few of them) There’s just not much in the way of a texture map or a bump map. It just...there’s also something missing from the skin.
Skin is actually kind of rough to render, so when I did it back in the day, I followed like a checklist to make sure I had all the layers and steps to make someone look...clammy. Some things are kinda translucent, they reflect light a different way...especially white skin like this wouldn’t be just...white like putty. Dunno if you ever saw a white person, but we got so many veins...there was so much potential to make something really gross and fleshy.
Instead we got silly putty. It’s fine. I’m fine.
So General Hakuro decides to just...kill everyone right now.
This makes no sense to me.
That means that the whole thing of Lust killing Hughes was completely unrelated to General Hakuro. All Hakuro needed was Shou Tucker, who has been in prison for...I assume months since Ed shipped him off. And Shou was only released today? Just now? Just now when Hughes was shot?
So this all just happened at the same time by accident?
I mean the General sent us to the wrong lab initially, so he didn’t actually want us to be here, and now that we are here, he’s going to set off an entire army as a reaction to three people walking in and going “oops”?
So, lets get a look at our army.
Oh it was so disappointing, this reveal. Not just the eyeball that has a bounce light coming from below the top lip there (how did that even happen???) but also when it opened it’s mouth, it had a flat animation of skin breaking--it wasn’t actually rendered 3d skin, it was like a jpg wrapped around it or something (or at least that was the illusion I got. That is fine for a video game or a TV show, but this is a movie. This is shot so that it can be displayed in a size bigger than your own house.
What happened to the animation team on this one? Not saying I can do better, cuz no, I can’t, that 3d chapter in my life was a while back, but I’m just one guy. This was an entire animation studio and they just...didn’t render 3d face ripping (which is their entire job, to work in 3d) and then they kinda just turned on the stock physics dynamics and dropped em instead of animating them.
The way they fell was like fish from a bucket--the same amount of speed, too. they all ragdolled like a 3D shooter, their rigs just hanging on for dear life (and yes, you could see the deforming happen on the joints of these models.) I’m fine with having a computer program render something out with a physics engine...but there is a balance.
You do have to still go in there and finangle it back because...real life is hella stupid. Real physics? So stupid. It was hilarious how nonthreatening it was, too because they’re like...the size of shrimps in that zoom out image. The scale is just so wild!
It was like one bored guy in a sound booth and they multiplied his voice three times. Golden. Absolutely golden.
So these guys stride over, all of them with the same amount of speed (leading me to think it was probably a recorded walk cycle they all share with slight alterations between all of em) and they kinda just...pile on eachother in a weird way.
I will give them this: I was happy to see something that wasn’t physics or procedural. They mo-capped and animated that part for sure. It had the touch of an artist’s hand. It was also a very funny way for Hakuro to die because this guy was on screen for like 5 minutes, and maybe 7 minutes of this whole movie.
Youknow...I think it really says a lot about your nude 3d models if they’re not disturbingly human enough to trigger the tumblr filter, youknow?
Anyway, Envy looks on.
And then Gluttony saves the city.
Meanwhile, they decide to bust out the fire effects and Mustang becomes the most useful person in this entire movie. Like honestly this movie was poorly named, because it should have just been “Mustang saves the FullMetal Alchemist’s Entire Ass.”
The next part seems like I forgot a cap, or maybe missed something. I swear to you, I did not.
First off, Al becomes fullmetal and makes this happen without an alchemy circle. The show doesn’t really care to talk about that though, it’s just a thing he can do now, and you’d only notice it if you were writing a Tumblr post about it.
I swear to you, Winry is just inside of Al and there is no explanation.
There is no explanation for this.
She was on the couch...why is she not on the couch? What?
And then when you think they might have a moment, Ed’s like.
Damn.
For reals what the hell was that entire scene except for a way for Ed to get his arm stitched back on in like 2 minutes?
Outside, Envy and Lust are just strolling around the back-alley of this red brick building we have seen used for this entire movie.
And like...it’s so funny to me because they weren’t trying to run or hide. It makes complete sense why they got shot. This is what happens when you just...walk away when the whole military guard wants to kill you.
Now lets go see how Hawkeye is faring.
Luckily, all of the ambling bodies have decided to walk slowly through this one weird grass section between extremely long buildings.
And Hawkeye tells everyone “You have to shoot their heads off” and I want you to look at that scene and tell me how many of those bodies still have heads.
Oh, all of them. Don’t worry about it.
Kinda hard to see, but Ed shows up to give Mustang a hand, which was fully unnecessary but we’ll get to that in a bit.
This movie is such a gem.
Ed goes big brain and realizes that Envy is still burned up, and thus is about to pass on.
And whatever, I’ll take it. It’s not like the movie has told us that they are made out of 1000000 lives, for all we know, in the movie universe, they really are only 4 lives. Like half a cat. Maybe Father only killed half a cat instead of an entire city.
Yugi Muto would be so freakin proud of Envy for how often this guy gets hit square in the chest with fire balls. It’s basically every scene where Envy and Mustang share screen time.
And don’t worry, I don’t think Envy died? But they sure made it look like he did, which I’m sure everyone everywhere was really happy to see, since Envy’s death was one of the climaxes of the whole series. Like people used to make these lists of “top 10 saddest anime deaths” and how many people had Envy on there? Like everyone? People freakin love Envy and they did him so much dirty in this movie.
Again I have no explanation for Winry.
So Mustang is like, Ed, you make sure Winry doesn’t biff it in that corner, and I’ll do my actual job over here on this side. And yo, he did.
And so then that’s it, Lust is dead, and now we have a Sorcerer’s stone.
Man it looks delicious, right?
I’d eat the hell out of that.
Anyway, we only have one more update and we’re done with this movie!
I know!
I know! They only have 10-15 minutes to resolve pretty much everything, and that’s assuming that the credits don’t take up a heap of that. Hell, I might only have 3 caps next episode if that’s all credits. I honestly don’t remember.
Anyway, hope y’all take it easy this February, here is a link for people who just got here to read these FMA recaps in Chrono order.

I’m back!
Upon my return from China, I noticed there were a lot of things weighing me down... that I can just throw the fuck out.
I could expound upon all of these in great detail, but it really would be pointless. And I wouldn’t be able to cover it all anyway. So instead I’ve decided to make a post of every icon I’ve used for my online persona over the years.
The reason for this is... at the end of the program I attended, we had an entire week of silent meditation. We weren’t allowed to talk or communicate with anyone in any way, including gestures, eye contact, or physical touch. So, during this time I had the realization that the stories I’ve been interested in have been my main source of comfort over the years. No person, place, or thing has felt more permanent to me than this.
However, permanence is an illusion, as the Buddhists say (I stayed in a Buddhist monastery in China, in case you’re wondering). My interests have changed over the years -- from the first fandoms I got obsessed with, to my interests now. I may still adore the series that I enjoyed as a child, but definitely not in the same way.
Coming home, I realized... I no longer want to attach my identity to one character or series. That’s why I’ve decided to make this post. I want to reflect on all the egos of my past, on what they have meant to me, so that I can let them go. I’ve been clinging to a folder of them for too long.
To anyone who’s been here since the very start of my blog, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. This is an acknowledgement of my transformation from then until now.
And so:
Breadward Elric. My first Internet icon, which I had for 2 and a half years from May 2011 -- 2013. My blog was originally entirely FMAB content, created in January of 2012, and while this format didn’t last the entire time that I had this icon, Breadward saw me through the majority of my early anime and video game obsessions. He jump-started my personality on the Internet as a fanfic author, a blogger, and an artist. I will never forget him... ;~;
Comrade Führer Tamama. I had this icon for 8 months in early 2013 -- early 2014. What can I say? Tamama’s passionate personality resonated with me, especially when he was finally able to be in control (in the episode this particular screenshot is from). Gotta get those cola oceans pronto!
Yokoso waga tainai e [Welcome to my Womb ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)]. I had a phase during the summer of 2014, okay. But I still love this maniacal snake’s crusty ass, fite me. I admire KagePro immensely for the popularity and development it gave characters in song format. Of course, favorite of those characters was Kuroha, a snake whose only desire was to keep granting wishes so that he could survive. Add a touch of murderous intent and you have the complete package -- I won’t deny he appealed(appeals) to my wild side -- okay moving on.
KeroTama hugge 👀. I had this icon for about 4-6 months in 2014 before the Hunter x Hunter phase hit. God, I shipped them so hard *facepalms* It was funny though, it’s like KagePro hit me like a hurricane during this summer and then I went right back to being KeroTama trash. Amazing.
Softly Smiling Pika. I kept this icon for at least 9-10 months at the end of 2014 -- early 2015, until I found Owari no Seraph. Kurapika was definitely my bae at the start of my HxH phase -- and in many ways he still is. The current arc gives me this sense of nostalgia of being a 15-year-old again, deeply in love but too in denial to see it. Watching him as a young adult, I see how far I’ve come, how I could have ended up... since I believed myself to be most closely alike with Kurapika at the time. And now I know that’s not the case... I remember debating between many other Kurapika icons and finally choosing this one because I dearly wanted to believe I too could find my happiness in the friends around me, even if it seemed all was hopeless behind the scenes.
Yuu babe. I had this icon for 4 months in the middle of 2015, I remember. Yuichiro Hyakuya was an underappreciated dorky genius at the time, much like how Gon is in HxH now, except... Now in the series... *deep sighs* *clenches fist* I still love his piercing citrine eyes and the dynamism of this icon/pose though.
Cuties T^T (MikaYuu edition). Mmm I kept this icon for a while, something like most of 2016, at least 6-8 months, probably more like 9 or 10. Looking back, I still wonder how/why the author was a fucking coward and didn’t make MikaYuu happen. We coulda had it aaallllll...... Anyway, this is when I was writing Ebony & Ivory, my most popular fic to date, so I was reveling in the reputation I gained from that. This icon was me accepting that while I was no longer friends with my best friend from middle school to 11th grade, I would still pursue my own happiness in the perfect relationship that I saw in MikaYuu. *nods* It’s fitting.
Caught Child². I shared this and the next couple of icons with a friend that I met online, who used the Gon equivalent. I think we shared this one for about 3 months of 2016. This is when I became re-obsessed with Hunter x Hunter and realized how much I had changed between 2014 and 2016. It’s an obsession that’s more or less carried onto now, and redefined my adulthood, as I see my progression as I refer back to HxH for guidance to this day.
Content Chompy Boye. I love this icon. I kept this icon for a long time, something like 5-6 months in December 2016 -- mid-2017. The colors of the background contrast with Killua’s white hair, pale skin, and dark muscle shirt... I still used this icon on other websites until just a few days ago (when I most recently changed my icon) because I thought it looked the best backdropped against the format of other websites. I love this scene in the series, though; while (human) Palm is chattering on about her worry that Gon and Killua will be able to defeat Knuckle and Shoot in time, Killua continues to eat without a care in the world. It’s a mood I feel at least once a day, whether while eating or getting a back massage -- as if that ever happens -- 11/10.
Pizza Devil Brat. I like this icon a lot and kept it on a few websites for longer too, but with the way I edited it, the green background becomes a little too headache-inducing if you stare at it too long, so 8/10 -- okay no more out of 10 ratings, this isn’t that kind of post. I believe I kept this icon for about 3-4 months in 2017 and possibly early 2018 as well. From the same scene the previous Kurapika icon came from, this remains one of my favorite scenes in the entire series for its serious undertones over the light happiness that underlies Gon’s, Killua’s, and Kurapika’s (and Leorio’s -- but he’s not in this scene) interactions with each other throughout the series.
Grumpy Gem Gremlin. I was sharing the last three icons with that friend, including this one, with the Phos equivalent (more or less). I think we only kept it for about a month or month and a half in 2017 or beginning of 2018 before switching to the next one. Cinnabar’s desire for a purpose and closeness to others despite her poisonous nature... is definitely something I can understand and relate to.
Sad Gem Child. Damn, I think we’re all still waiting for the day Gormie realizes Aechmea’s a creepy sugar daddy and dropkicks his ass into the ocean where the Admirabilis can decompose his cloudy body like he doesn’t deserve. When will Land of the Lustrous return from the war? I’m still waiting, Ichikawa. Anyway I think we kept this icon for about a month or maybe two in 2018, not long at all.
Gay Childe™. Look, this is one of the gayest scenes in the entire series and it’s right after my favorite episode(s)/scene(s) in the entire series (so far) and it’s not even acknowledged by anyone. Just. Holy Fuck. Anyway I think I kept this icon for about 6-8 months to cap off 2018. And this is where the Big Breakup happened, where my friend decided to choose an icon that deviated from mine, but I kept this icon for a lot longer due to what this scene means to me, placed after/during my favorite episode. ;v;
And finally, BoMH (Blood on My Hands) Pika. I used this icon for 8 months from the start of 2019 until just a few days ago (approx. 8 months). This icon was originally the cover for a Kurapika fic that I started back in 2015 and ended up discontinuing because it was pretty slow-paced, and thus unpopular, which made it become difficult for me to write. But I got all the way up to 97k words before I quit, simply because of the freedom and joy I felt in creating all the OCs that I fit into Kurapika’s journey as he searched for the Kurta eyes after the Yorknew City Arc. Looking back, I’m proud of the planning and commitment that I succeeded in undertaking with this fic -- it was about halfway done by the time I stopped writing it -- and I feel I want to return to this concept one day. Even if the arcs were pretty formulaic at times and, well, boring, I wanted this icon at the start of 2019 to be a new person separate from my recent past matching icons; a representation of my ability to reconnect with my past, but to no longer be afraid of it; to be proud of it, but still recognizing the not-so-good parts, laying it to rest by no longer avoiding it.
My icon now, as I’m sure you can see... is nothing like those I’ve used thus far. I definitely have no intention of moving away from anime or my past. I simply wish to redefine who I am in relation to them, rather than being defined by them.
...I’ve discovered a lot about myself over the past 2 years since college started, more than I ever thought possible. I discovered a lot while in China, too. And I need my online persona to reflect that in every form, as I’ve done every time there was a change.
Thank you all for being with me on this journey: for following me, for reading my posts, for liking my art, for talking with me and blowing up my notifications on every platform...
I’ll be pursuing the next chapter(s) of Human, TIDU, and other works soon. ^.^

Memory Dump
I’ve been super busy looking for work, prepping for uni, then my secondary and tertiary HDDs died and I thought I’d lost everything form the past 20 years of my digital life, so that was fun. (I got it all back, thank Odin).
Currently cleaning out all my old screenie folders and found some gems...
I’d been meaning to clear and sort these folders for ages, but it’s been difficult. Those were some hard years of my life, and I tried to process a lot of that pain and trauma through RP, which had... varying results.
I can comb through this stuff with a bit more fondness now though, and there’s heaps here. A lot of it I don’t even remember, because my memory is pretty shot. But here’s some snippets; nice stuff, funny stuff, sad stuff.
Listening recommendation: The First Layer
This was my first main from long ago, Reithan, following some cosmic horror trail down some dark path...
I will never capture a moment that perfect ever again.
That’s racist, man :|
There are a lot of shots of Reithan like this. I really wanted to capture the solitary nature of his journey, despite all the connections he was making along the way.
The Miralukan was Ralakan, played by one of my favourite people to RP with.
That friendship kinda crashed and burned, but we did some killer writing together.
Everyone else had a fourth-wall-breaking character... right?
Has to be one of my favourite throwaway NPC lines in the game.
Another old friend who was an amazing writer, who I still touch base with every now and then.
“If you don’t start toeing the line, you’re going to die here.”
Master and apprentice for a short while.
A story that was never meant to end well.
This was an in-game sidequest on Belsavis, but i screenshotted it heavily because it seemed to hold extra weight and context for this particular character. They were both Mirialan, and Feyda had flunked out of Jedi-school before joining the Sith. It really added a whole different emotional aspect to the mission.
How to start an awkward conversation.

The Photo Management App You Need for Your Next Trip
My camera roll is a polluted ocean. For one, it’s a deep abyss full of too much garbage—accidental screenshots of my alarm clock when I mean to hit snooze, one too many selfies of sunburns and a heap of unsolicited Air Drop bombs from bored strangers on long-haul bus rides.
But deep in the rolling tides of my photo albums are also some hidden gems—the precious pearls and brilliant corals and iridescent seashells that are my cherished memories.
I typically save these photos in my Favorites album so I can find them without doing too much digging through years of travel.
It’s the album I whip out when I meet a new friend in a hostel discussing our shared experience running from rogue monkeys in Ubud, Bali. And it’s the album I open up when my friends back home refuse to believe that I really did eat a scorpion that one time in Cambodia and went scuba diving with menacing, toothy eels in Honduras.
But even my Favorites album is a disorderly muddle of photos from years of traveling all over the world. The last 10 items in that album make just about zero sense:
A blurry photo of me dancing with a mosh of strangers at Nos Alive music festival in Lisbon, Portugal.
A screenshot of my license that was in my stolen wallet in Barcelona.
A portrait of me sitting on a sailboat on Lake Titicaca in Bolivia.
An action shot of me sand-boarding down the dunes at sunset in Huacachina, Peru.
An exciting sighting of a blue-footed booby in the Galápagos.
An incredibly awkward photo of me nervously feeding a llama in the middle of the world along Ecuador’s equator.
An admittedly deceptive shot of me surfing in Costa Rica.
A favorite snap summiting Volcán Acatenango in Guatemala.
A selfie showing off my totally phallic-shaped henna tattoo in Udaipur, India.
An aerial view of Cappadocia, Turkey’s fairy chimneys from a hot air balloon.
What I need to better organize my travel memories is an app that can do it all for me.
Enter: Mylio.
Mylio is the free photo organizer every traveler needs. It works for Mac, Windows, iOS and Android, and it manages all of your photos and files from all of your devices and online services like Facebook and Flickr.
It’s more than just an organizational tool, however. The app boasts a number of impressive features that help me to organize, edit and access my safely stored photos.
Mylio works on all devices.
1. Organize Your Photos in Various Ways
I’m the kind of person who remembers my life in terms of countries perhaps more than dates. You’ll often hear me saying something along the lines of, “The last time I got a vaccine was Thailand,” instead of “The last time I got a vaccine was in January.” Or, “I haven’t talked to that friend since Colombia, so maybe I should reach out,” instead of “I haven’t talked to that friend in six months, so maybe I should reach out.”
Since I started traveling full time, my brain just operates in country-chunked memories rather than chronological time. As such, being able to organize my photos on a map makes it a lot easier to find specific ones.
Mylio’s map is intuitive and elegant; photos are grouped by location with a pin that shows how many photos were taken in each place. You can zoom into the map using pinch-in and pinch-out on touchscreens or use the plus and minus signs in the bottom right corner of the map. As you zoom in, Mylio separates your photos into more defined pins, allowing you to better see where each set of photos was taken.
You can also utilize Mylio’s search from within Map view to find a specific location. For instance, you can type “Bermuda” in Mylio’s search bar to automatically be taken to the island of Bermuda and shown the photos taken there.
Mylio’s map view
Of course, in Mylio, you can also organize your photos by date, so if you do think in terms of months or years, you’ll be able to go back to specific times and find your photos.
Likewise, Mylio allows you to organize by faces/people, folders/events and tags/flags/stars. When you want to see all your photos of a friend or family member, simply type in that person’s name, and Mylio will show a custom album of that person.
You also have the option of organizing photos into folders or events, which is another way Mylio makes it easy to find a particular photo.
And of course you can use the search filter to find specific photos, as well. Overall, if you’ve ever felt like you’re drowning in photos, Mylio is a ready-made and free lifesaver!
Another huge Mylio bonus is that migration is seamless. If you’ve spent a fair chunk of time organizing your photos, the thought of moving to a new photo management system can be daunting. Luckily, Mylio migrates not only your photos but also the folder structure you have them in. That way, all the sorting you’ve already done comes with you!
2. Edit Your Travel Photos without Being a Professional Content Creator
Mylio makes any traveler look like a content creator. And if you want to show off the best of your travels, you know the importance of editing photos before uploading or sharing. Using Mylio’s editing tools, you can crop, rotate and straighten your photos to highlight what matters.
And what’s more, the edits you make to a photo on one device are automatically made on all your other devices! So if you crop a photo on your phone, the same crop will already have been made when you next get on your tablet or computer.
You can also apply and/or change presets, as well as use editing controls. You can even batch edit multiple photos at once to give them some uniformity. The tools range from one-tap filters to precision treatment sliders.
Editing photos with Mylio
Mylio also makes rating a fun and fast process with its auto-advance feature, which automatically moves on to the next picture after you rate each photo so you can rate as efficiently as possible!
And, if you ever need a specific tool that Mylio doesn’t offer, you can send your images to another editor to make those changes for you. And once they’re saved back to Mylio, Mylio will automatically pick up those edits and sync them between all of your devices.
As you’re probably starting to see, Mylio makes photo management easy across multiple platforms and devices.
3. Access Your Photos Any Time, Anywhere
As a traveler, I’m busy wiping out on electric scooters down cobblestoned alleyways and navigating rivers snaking through jungles by canoe. I spend my time living in the moment, and seldom have time to be editing photos from my past.
That said, I’ve been on enough long-haul buses and overnight trains to know that the WiFi never works like it’s advertised. And when I’m not journaling during those journeys, it’s an ideal time for me to catch up on editing photos. Except that too many of my photos are stuck in the cloud, and I usually need WiFi to access and sync them.
With Mylio, you can access and sync your photos any time, anywhere. Unlike cloud-based services, all your pictures are on all your machines, so they are always with you. You can view them on any device, with or without internet. That means you can efficiently use your travel time and make the most of your adventure time!
In the background, Mylio’s smart software frees up space on your phone by distributing your photo originals across your devices (like laptops and tablets) that have more storage space.
Access Mylio anywhere, anytime.
4. Rest Assured That Your Photos are Safe
Mylio is not a cloud service. Rather, Mylio utilizes the storage on the devices that you already own to keep copies of your files. You can also designate a device with a lot of storage space as a Vault; a Vault (ideally a computer or external drive) will automatically store your original, full-sized files so you can free up even more space on your smaller devices.
For added protection, Mylio can also integrate with some cloud providers to use their storage as Vaults, too. This ensures an offsite copy of your files that you can use to restore your library in case something happens to one of your travel devices.
If you do indeed choose to use the cloud as an added layer of protection, you can encrypt your images. This will ensure that your data is not available to anyone with unauthorized access to your cloud service.
So whether you’re planning to island hop around Laos’ 4,000 Islands or taking a food tour across Italy, Mylio is there to help you at every stage of your photo journey. And you can rest assured that you’ll be able to easily edit, organize, and share those cannoli pics like a seasoned foodie.
