Hairy Hob is a blessing I never thought I needed. And this is coming from someone who was kind of meh on the whole body hair thing in sex stuff, it's fine if it's in it, but not my thing usually. Imagine my surprise when I end up going feral, not for someone like the Corinthian who honestly should be more my type, I end up going absolutely bonkers for Hob Gadling. Hob Gadling this absolute Honda Civic of a man, I love him.
Scent kink too, but I digress. More to the point, for someone like Hob, I figured he might be a bit insecure about his body hair when he and Dream first get together. Maybe he noticed one time how much arm hair he has compared to Dream, who took off his coat for some reason. So, the day comes when they finally plan to do the do, and Hob spends the entire morning and afternoon shaving his entire body, cause waxing will hurt too much XD. And then it's time, they're making out. Deam starts to touch his body while kissing and is progressively becoming more confused the more he touches Hob. Until Dream loses patience and rips his shirt to shreds to see his bare chest. And the horror on Dream's face XD, you'd think someone died or something, immediately ripping off Hob's pants and underwear, and he's bare everywhere of course. Dream looked him over twice, even going so far as to make Hob present himself, ie bending over and spreading himself.
Hob's face is beet red, his face is like a tomato, doesn't understand what the fuss is, he thought Dream might like him like this. But the mounting rage on the Dreamlord's face says otherwise. Dream is livid, and I wonder how he'll punish Hob for this. huehuehuehuehuehuehueheuhehuehue
-Love Yan Anon <3
yeSSSS love that my Hairy Hob propaganda is spreading <3 it's funny bc Hob IS so my type it's almost ridiculous. I think body hair really is A Thing for me (on whatever gender) and I can't explain it BUT. I can attempt to spread the gospel about it heehee.
LOVE the idea of Hob being insecure though omg!!! He's really overthinking everything and he's noticed that Dream is very,,, smooth. He's got the tiniest bit of upper lip stubble but aside from that, he's pretty hairless! And Hob is like, "I'm connecting the dots. He was all weird in 1589, when I had facial hair. Obviously he hates body hair and stuff." And Matthew is probably there like "you haven't connected shit my dude" but Hob is already convinced.
And he's a lil sad because ugh, he has a lot of hair, it's kinda part of him?? Also it takes a long time to shave??? But he'd do anything for Dream so. He spends a good 3 hours meticulously making sure he's smooth, even his butthole doesn't escape, it's a fucking nightmare but. Worth it. For Dream.
And yeah Dream is pissed off, ok. He's finally got Hob naked after 600 fucking years of lustful yearning (including a solid half an hour staring at his chest hair in 1689) and he just doesn't get it. But he's incapable of having a normal conversation about it so he pulls a very squirmy (and slightly itchy, fucking shaving burn??? Oww!!) Hob over his lap and demands an explanation.
Hob is humiliated and embarrassingly turned on about it, and he explains his thought process and Dream is just like. "Oh wow. I'm in love with an idiot." Which is objectively not an ideal moment for a love declaration but does clear up a lot of Hob’s self esteem issues.
But Dream is still committed to punishing his lover for his grave sins against all that lovely sexy body hair. He spends a good hour or two smacking Hob’s poor arse (with particular focus on his hole, which is already stinging sooo badly) and his cock. All his shaving implements are immediately banished too, and it's for Dream to decide when he gets his face shaving privileges back. In fact, maybe Dream decides that Hob needs a little more supervision overall. And maybe Hob is unreasonably turned on by the fact that Dream is in charge of his outfit for each day, and his meals, and most importantly, his bedtime <3

( continued. ) ♡ @hcrdknocklife
"how do you know that i’m out of his league if you’ve never met him?” there’s still a small smile on her lips regardless of the finer details because even after all this time, it’s reassuring to hear from people who couldn’t disagree with her ex’s words more; especially when it’s a person she respects so much. the sad truth is that if someone spends enough time telling you that you’re not very smart, you’ll eventually start to believe it, and there are some tougher days at work where riley will start to fall back into that pattern. she swears she’s trying, but learning how to deal with failure without shouldering the full blame has never come naturally for her. “you say you don’t have much experience with it and that might be true, but whatever articles you’ve read seem to be pretty accurate. i can barely remember what not being anxious feels like.” when was the last time they were genuinely entirely carefree, with no nagging thoughts at the back of their mind or something lurking beneath that causes their stomach to twist itself into nervous knots? it must have been around their early school years, back before anybody had managed to figure out just how advanced her little brain could be in comparison to her classmates. once they did, it was all downhill from there. if she asked for assistance with something, what if the adults were disappointed? she was the clever one, after all. surely she shouldn’t need to be talked through the process like everyone else. sadly, she knows not everyone thinks the same way hayes does. not everyone is so willing to help.
“yeah, i know… although i’m starting to think there might be such a thing as caring too much.” imagine how much easier life would be if they could just shut off the limbic system in their brain for a little while and coast through the day without getting caught up on every minor mistake or overthinking every conversation hours after they've already ended. what a dream that would be. “that’s probably the smarter choice in the long run. but for what it's worth, i think you deserve all that praise you don't listen to.” it seems like feeling undeserving of flattery is just another thing they have in common. "i suppose if it was easy, anybody could do it, right? but you're the one in that position for a reason. you said you're doing the best you can and if everyone can already see that when you've barely just begun, i'd take that as a sign that you're moving in the right direction. so don't worry, i don't think you'll disappoint me either." realistically, they aren't even the one he should be afraid of letting down — what does their personal opinion really matter in the long run? "oh, ouch… are you trying to tell me to get a life right now?" being so directly called out would be woefully embarrassing if the initial surprise hadn’t made her laugh. is she that predictable? it's not like she never sees the light of day and spends the time in between shifts at home, staring blankly at the wall until it's time to leave again; she just tends not to do stuff that most people would deem as particularly adventurous or exciting. it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone to learn that she's not much of an extrovert. “hey, if you don't have confidence in your love life, someone has to. whatever form it ends up taking, yes, i'm willing to bet that you’ll get there. is that so hard to believe?" riley of all people giving out any kind of relationship advice is incredibly ironic, but she has a feeling about this one. he's so stereotypically perfect, it's close to frustrating. "yeah, that's what i thought… but then again, how else do you plan on meeting someone if you're exhausting all your other options?" at the mention of dating essentially getting in the way of work however, a knowing smile settles on their lips. ah, that sounds familiar. “i'm sorry, what was that you were saying earlier about me needing to work on my work-life balance? i'm afraid you might need to start taking your own advice." at this point, it should probably be considered a miracle that they aren't both still at the hospital right now.
“oh, i see… i suppose i didn’t think about that part.” she hadn't even thought that a member of staff would be an option for him, but it makes sense in hindsight; it's where he spends most of his time after all. the downside to this information is that now, their mind is running at a rapid pace trying to figure out who exactly has managed to capture his attention. they’re not one to gossip — especially not while at work — but they’d be lying if they said their curiosity wasn’t piqued. “as long as it’s consensual though, i’m sure there’s a way to work around the rules somehow, right? it may technically be frowned upon, but it’s not like you’d be breaking the law… i doubt you’re the first person to ever develop feelings for an employee.” aren’t there hundreds of cliche romance books out there about dating your boss? it must be a pretty common line of thinking for some people. as soon as it becomes clear that he's finally going to tell her why they're really here, riley's spine straightens and she tries not to lean forward in anticipation. she hadn’t the faintest idea what she was actually expecting him to say, but it wasn’t… that. her mouth opens the second the words leave his lips, but no sound comes out yet and she has to quickly shut it again. is he positive he hasn’t gotten her mixed up with someone else? “um, the clinic sounds like a great idea,” she begins, trying to find the best way to voice her confusion. this day has taken so many unexpected turns, she's shocked she's not dizzy. “but… why would you want me? you have plenty of other doctors who are far more experienced and capable than i am. giving me that responsibility... it feels like a risk.”

Gaara reacting to his S/O wearing a lingerie
- Genre: Horny-ish Gaara hours. You're probably just visiting your friend in horny jail with this one. 😝
- Word count:
- Format: Bulleted headcanons
Ah, it's been awhile! I suddenly got into the mood to write something and among the asks I have in my inbox, @rollercoasterofdicks and @anniarchy 's asks regarding lingerie are the first ones I was in the mood to write about. (:
I hope you enjoy!
Warning: R-18+ content below the cut!
---
• Gaara honestly doesn't impose a lot of expectations from you as his significant other, sexy-times wise. His mind is too pre-occupied with a lot of office-work related stuff that the man is just finally happy and content to get away from all of it as he comes home to a house that isn't cold and empty. To have a safe, welcoming space with home-cooked meals and a warm bed to rest on had already moved past his expectations to begin with.
• You could be wearing anything, and he'd still be down for it as long as both of you are in the mood. The visual appeal of his beloved's body might always be a treat, but to Gaara, it's the comforting warmth and the familiar scent of your skin that he finds really enticing. You two could just be cuddling innocently- exhausted giggles and whispered rants, the vibration of your back as you laugh against his chest while he's hugging you from behind... then he pulls you closer towards him, a soft purr of his husky voice as he asks you gently if the two of you could do it.
• "I want you..."
• Settling it once and for all in this house, no amount of ugly-patterned matching pajamas could ever stop Gaara from being in the mood to make love to his significant other. You think the fabric you are wearing at such moment would faze this man if he is horny? Not at all!
• But, that doesn't mean he is not open to such surprises involving a sexy lingerie. You just gotta' plant the idea of it bit by bit into his mind so he at least forms the outline of such racy thoughts. I guess you could say he does have a thing for a buildup of some sort, a stimulating thought process that will leave him in anticipation for the climax of your agenda.
• Why not start with a sneaky slip dress that'll make Gaara feel a little guilty for having his thoughts cross the horny boundary?
• You haven't worn such thing before, and he's not outwardly denying the brewing curiosity. Your chosen garment was at the perfect spot where you have him tiptoeing regarding two thoughts- are you simply just trying a fresh pace for sleeping clothes? Or are you implying something?
• Who was he kidding? Obviously this is not for him. This was nothing but an appropriate sleeping garment. Not everything is about him! Just because he's your husband, doesn't mean he get to spoil himself with such ideas. Right?
• Right?
• Gaara's denial would waver as you tease him innocently by pressing your backside against his crotch while the two of you are spooning together for the night.
• The man is honestly overthinking it too much to even get the clear signal in your first try, but he's trying his best.
• If only he could've have the guts to press his hard-on against your tailbone as he traces your exposed thigh with the palm of his hand...
• It wasn't a failed mission though, because you have just started some very flustering imageries in his thoughts starting from that night on, and it's only bound to get better.
• You'd find yourself wondering what type of lingerie is he into, and you've been tempted more than once to flat out ask him about it. Not wanting to ruin the slow-burn of a surprise that you knew he was aware of but just chooses to deny it, you swallowed back your inquiries.
• You did notice that his gaze was already unsteady in that small stunt you pulled with that pale grey slip the other night, so maybe start with something with softer appeal? Something just appropriately playful and teasing?
• This was a ploy to bring Gaara down to his knees, but you couldn't deny that you were enjoying it as much personally. The confidence it brings as you admire yourself in the mirror was already satisfying to begin with, but to Gaara's reaction just swells up your the pride down to the very brim.
• Pale pink, soft beige, good old neutral colors of white, grey and brown where you can't go wrong. Maybe a burnt sienna to hit the perfect spot? Laces, intricate patterns, garter belts. There was a lot to choose from that you'd find yourself having fun in shopping for the next item to torture him with.
• Torture? Why so?
• Because you softly deny his advances.
• "Ahh... I'm kind of tired, Gaara."
• How unfair could you more be?
• You literally just fucking moaned your denial while your supple thighs being snugly hugged by a sheer stockings rubbed against the crotch of his pajamas.
• You're beyond cruel, really.
• But Gaara is a good sport, and by now, he was more than willing to edge himself for you.
• Do the final show on the weekend, please. That's the tiniest hint of demand from Gaara's behalf. If you were finally going to pull him by the collar of his blouse and bring an end to this week-long tease of yours that has been causing some distractions in his work recently, you have to at least let him savor it.
• If you debut the climax with an intricate piece of a lingerie in his favorite color, he will be at your mercy.
• Gaara is a body-worshipper by default, so if you chose to wear a lingerie to increase his already innate desire to adore and praise every inch of your body, he's more than eager to deliver.
• The lingerie stays on during foreplay. Yes, the straps of your bra would be loosened and fall down the curve of your shoulders- maybe he'd sway the pads to the side a little so he could play and suckle on the hardening nub beneath it, but you will stay partially clothed. He was going to make sure that every cent of money you have poured into such a beautifully-hugging, intimate piece of clothing would be worth it. Gaara is going to admire you in it as long as possible.
• Oh? The lingerie is a little constricting? You want to spread your legs a little wider? Maybe you'd like it he fondled your actual mounds rather than having it be massaged under the pads of your bras?
• "...But you look so beautiful in your lingerie, my love."
• Yeah, needless to say this man is taking his chance right now to bite back. With the faked tone of sympathy that you just realized as you the corner of his lips almost formed a soft smirk, you knew that what he meant to say was...
• "The lingerie stays on and you're going to take everything I'm going to do just like that."
• Sadly, though... he's going to have to remove your underwear.
• Sadly though for him. You on the other hand...
• Well, if you're kind enough to pair it up next time with crotchless panties, Gaara would simply just lose his fucking mind.
• Maybe that's what you wanted in the first place though?
• Now, now. Quit spacing out and thinking about the next opportunity of messing him up.
• Should you be really worrying about such right now when you already came so much and he still hasn't even removed his own clothes yet?

It’s Hard Sometimes
Pairing: Jay Halstead x Reader
Word count: 2,975
Warnings: Yelling, arguing (gets a little physical, really just a little bit!), high risk-pregnancy, slight mentions of fertility issues, mentions of anxiety and overthinking, and a lot of angst.
Summary: Jay and the reader are married, but start having a hard time after they found out that (y/n) is pregnant.
Disclaimer: I don’t own any of the One Chicago shows, or its characters, also not associated with it in any way or know anyone involved with it.
A/N: I made this piece of almost pure angst mostly because I feel like Jay is such a well-built character, who gives us a lot of space to talk about mental health and anxiety (even though I don’t think I developed it very well, lol), so I wanted to use this space to try and add to the conversation with him. Anyways, I hope it doesn’t suck too bad and, please, feel free to give me feedback, cause I’m also here to learn!!
(y/n) = (your name) (y/l/n) = (your last name) (y/n/n) = (your nickname)
| masterlist |
Your Saturday morning just couldn’t get any worse.
Or, at least, that’s what you thought after having been mugged at the subway and then asked to go pick up your stuff at the 21st District, where your husband works. You had to go in because they had apprehended your bag as stolen property. But you were hoping that, maybe, you’d be able to sort it all out without Jay seeing you.
“(y/n), hi! Here to see Chuckles? Cause they’re all out working on a case now.” Trudy said with a small smile on her lips, while you just prayed she wouldn’t notice how relieved you were to hear that.
“No, uh, I’m actually here because there was an incident at the subway and the responding officers told me I had to come in to get my bag back. Also, sign something, I think…” You answered shrugging your shoulders to make it seem like nothing. But, of course, Trudy knew better, she always does.
“Oh my God! I heard about that, just didn’t know you were one of the victims! Are you okay? García, go get (y/n) a glass of water!!!” She quickly shouted at the young officer, not waiting long to turn back to face you with a concerned glare: “Can I get you anything else?”
“Oh, no, Trudy! You don’t need to worry about me! It wasn’t a big deal!” You said, also noticing that she was already going through some evidence bags, looking for the one that contained your things. “But there is one thing that I’d appreciate from you…” Hearing that, she didn’t even let you finish:
“Yes, of course! Anything, just name it!” At that, you shot her your brightest smile. Maybe Jay was right and the tough Sergeant Trudy Platt did have a soft spot for you.
“Well, it’s just that… You know how Jay can get, so maybe you could not mention any of this to him? I just don’t want him worrying, the way I know he will, over something like this…” You would’ve continued but Trudy had the weirdest look on her face and, then, you got it. “He’s standing right behind me, isn’t he?” She didn’t bother to answer as your husband turned you to face him and the other members of the Intelligence Unit.
“So, what is it you don’t want me to worry about, huh?” He had a playful smirk on his lips, but his eyes showed you he was already worried. And now you had no other option but to tell him what happened.
“Well, um, there was a little confusion at the subway today and the officers said I had to come in…” You would gladly stop at that, but you knew that Jay wasn’t gonna let it go until you told him everything, so you just went on: “To retrieve what I, um, lost.” God, you couldn’t even look in his eyes right now.
“What you lost? What kind of confusion are you talking about exactly, babe?” In spite of the pet name, his voice was already showing off a bit of irritation.
“It was a, um, robbery,” at that his eyes almost jumped out of their orbits, so you quickly added, “but it wasn’t a big deal! Nobody got hurt! The officers tackled the guy pretty fast, as soon as he stepped out on the station! And everything is here,” you said raising the bag Trudy handed you a few minutes earlier, “so, really, there’s nothing to worry about!” You told him, not being able to conceal the exasperation in your voice.
“Nothing to worry about? You just got mugged, (y/n)! We heard a call about that over the radio, it was an armed robbery! Or did you happen to miss the gun on your face when he was getting your bag, huh?” He asked and, even though you knew that the only reason why he was lashing out like that was the concern, the way he said what he said made you feel really small and brought tears to your eyes. “Actually, what I’d like to know, to begin with, is why were you even riding the subway alone, after our talk from the other day, huh?” You could feel the eyes from every person in that District on you and, as much as you knew where Jay was coming from, it was starting to really bother you.
“I was just going to the library. Sorry I didn’t think I needed an escort to do that!” You wish you wouldn’t have said it with those exact words, but you were reaching your limit.
“But we talked about it!” He snapped and you jumped back a little. Then he added, more calmly: “You should have called me.” He was pinching the bridge of his nose, like he always did when he was disappointed and upset about something, and you just felt yourself getting smaller and smaller, as the tears started falling. As if all of it hadn’t been enough, he asked: “Are you okay, though? Because, you know, given our circumstances, you’re to avoid going out on your own to prevent this kinda stress from hitting you, babe.” He explained that to you like he was talking to a child. Like he was the only one who heard what the doctor said. And that was it for you. As much as you loved the man, you just didn't have infinite patience towards his overprotective dad-to-be mode.
“Oh, really? Why don’t you just go ahead and say ‘I told you so’, huh? Because I can tell you’re dying to do it!” God damn those pregnancy hormones because you were fuming with anger and the tears just kept going down at full force.
“Babe, that’s not what I-”
“The hell it isn’t!” Part of you really wanted to let it all out. All the hurtful words that were just waiting for a go-ahead at the tip of your tongue. But the other part of you, the rational one, knew that wasn’t gonna do any good for you or Jay. Or your baby. So you decided you’d leave instead. “You know what? It’s probably best if I go home now!”
“Okay, then, I’ll drive you.” You heard Jay saying, with a deep sigh, but you couldn’t even begin to think about an entire drive home with him at that moment.
“No way! I can do that by myself! And don’t worry I’ll get a cab this time!” As you headed towards the exit, you felt a strong grip on your wrist. You turned around and it was Jay. He’d never done that before. “Jay, you’re hurting me!” You breathed out, trying not to be too nervous. When your eyes met his, he let your arm go quickly, looking absolutely stunned by his own behavior.
You knew that the healthiest thing to do right then would be to try and talk to him about it, but you couldn’t. At that point you needed the space more than ever, so you took the opportunity to just leave the District and go home.
After you stormed out crying, every cop in that building laid their eyes on Jay. To say they were completely shocked by the previous scene was an understatement. Almost everyone there knew you and Jay and how you two were great together. But, more importantly, they knew Jay Halstead wasn’t that kinda guy ⎯ or at least they thought so ⎯ and now they were all wondering.
Still, Trudy Platt, who wasn’t about to have any more of that drama at her District, ordered loudly for everyone to get back to their tasks, while shooting Jay a worried look, because, as much as she knew for a fact that he wasn’t that kinda guy, she cared a lot about you and had, obviously, witnessed the whole thing.
After the little gathering of cops had been dissolved, it was Voight’s turn to speak up: “Alright, Intelligence, let’s get back upstairs, we still have a lot of work to do on this case. And, Jay, you should go home now.” He said with a stern look, despite his concern for the detective.
“But, sarge, I-” Jay started to protest, like Hank knew he would.
“I don’t wanna hear it, Halstead. I know your head is not gonna be on the case until you fix whatever that was, so, now, the best thing you can do is just calm down and go home.” This time Jay knew there was no point in arguing, so he accepted the defeat and went upstairs to get changed in the locker room before leaving.
As he got there, he saw his reflection in the mirror and that was when it hit him. All of it. From your incident to your tears, to his aggressiveness. He really messed up. He let his fears get the best of him and he hurt you, he made you cry, fear him, even. So he started crying himself, like a little child whose favorite toy had just broken, like there was no tomorrow. By the time Voight went there to check up on Jay, maybe give him some advice, that’s what he saw: a grown man sitting on the floor crying his eyes out. So he did the one thing he could think about doing, to try and make that man he considered like a son feel better: he sat there by Jay’s side and put a hand over the detective’s shoulder until the crying sufficed.
“So, you and (y/n) been on the odds lately?” Hank asked after a while.
“No, uh, not really.” Jay started whilst sniffling. “It’s just that this week we got some news that messed with our emotions a little, but, Hank, I swear I have no idea why I did that! I would never do anything to hurt her, you gotta believe me! Please?” He pleaded, in desperation, for someone who knew it, who knew him.
“Jay, Jay!” By then the sergeant had to shout to get the frantic young man’s attention back. “Jay, I know you wouldn’t hurt her, you hear me? I know. I know you love her more than you love yourself, hell, everyone here knows it! They were just… A little surprised to see you two arguing, that’s all.” Hank tried to make it sound a lot less bad than it actually was, and Jay appreciated that. “Now, why don’t you tell me what’s really going on between you and (y/n), huh? Maybe I can help you somehow… Or maybe you just need to vent.” Hearing that, Jay decided that he should take Voight’s suggestion and just talk about it already.
“Well, here’s the thing, sarge, (y/n/n) and I, we’ve been trying to get pregnant for a while now. And, um, we were having a bit of a hard time with it. But then last weekend we found out that it worked, she got pregnant, and we were so happy about it!” He almost smiled at the memory. “But then we went to the doctor to check it and all that, and found out that it’s a high-risk pregnancy, meaning she’s gotta take it real easy from now on, otherwise the baby’s life and her own would be in danger! And I’m terrified ever since we left that hospital! Because the simplest thing could take her away from me! My everything, sarge, she is my entire world and I can’t live without her.” He said shaking his head in a way that made even Hank Voight feel a bit of sadness. “So when she said she’d been robbed at gunpoint… I just lost it, you know? What if I’d lost them?”
“Ah, Jay…” Hank knew exactly what the detective was scared of, after all, he had already lost a wife and a son. “Look, I know this can be hard, trust me. Camille and I had our issues before Justin came, as well… But you said it yourself, you’re both happy, aren’t you?” Jay didn’t even need to think before answering that question.
“Yes, of course, sarge! But-”
“No buts! Look, Jay, I know what a big heart you have and I know how much you care, how- how intensely you care, I know, okay? But sometimes, with things like this, you just gotta keep going and hope- just hope that everything is gonna work out. So here’s what you’re gonna do: go home, make up with your wife and start planning a nursery, or whatever else you, parents-to-be, have on your to-do lists these days.” At that, Jay chuckled a little, feeling grateful to have this second father to set him on straight.
“I know you’re right, and I really appreciate you saying this to me… I’m pretty sure that (y/n/n) said something among those lines after we got back from the doctor’s appointment too. The problem is that sometimes it seems like I can’t control my own thoughts. Then, next thing I know, I’m freaking out…” Hank thought that he sounded so frustrated saying that… He really felt for the kid.
“Listen, Jay, you- you just try, okay? You just try your best. And talk to (y/n/n) about it, just let her know what’s going on in there.” He pointed to Jay’s head, as they had already stood up.
“Alright, I will try. Thank you, sarge. Thank you so much, I really needed this.” They half-hugged and the detective went home to you.
The thing he wasn’t prepared for, at all, was finding you: the woman he loved more than anything and anyone in the entire world, sitting on the floor, leaning your back against the bed in the bedroom you two shared, crying and shaking. You were scared of him. That broke him in a way he never thought possible. He wanted to hurt himself, as punishment for hurting you, but he knew it wouldn’t be fair to you. So he gathered some courage to speak through his shame instead. “B- babe?”
You shivered, but you didn’t wanna be afraid of him. That was Jay. Your Jay. The man you loved. The man who loved you. You knew he would never hurt you or your baby. But your body didn’t seem to be listening to your brain. Still, you wanted to say something. But you couldn’t. You wouldn’t know what to say, so you just stayed silent, trying to stop the sobs. He decided to make a move: He sat down on the floor like you, but still giving you some space. “I’m sorry,” he said softly, almost whispering, “I’m so, so, so sorry. You don’t need to say anything, or to forgive me, or do anything, really. I came here willing to talk to you. To do anything to get you back. But now I see just how much I hurt you, so I’ll give you all the space and time you want.” You still couldn’t seem to find your words. It was that same man, you knew it. Why couldn’t you just tell him that? “I’ll sleep in the spare bedroom, or even go to Will’s if it makes you more comfortable?” Just by the sound of his voice, you could tell he meant it. And that was your Jay.
“No,” you spoke so lowly, that you weren’t even sure he’d heard it, “I want you to stay.” And you really did. But you needed to understand, in order to be able to forgive him. “Just- just tell me what happened there? Why?” You tried, a little louder this time.
“Long story short? I was scared to death.” He said with a long and heavy sigh, looking so much older than he’d ever done before; at the same time, you could see the bags under his eyes, from all those sleepless nights he’d been having lately.
“Scared? Because of the robbery? Baby, you’re a cop! You’ve heard of that kind of thing a million times before, and you know it’s not that big of a deal!" You tried to reason with him, even though you were afraid too, at the time.
“I know!” He said, in a tone that made you flinch a little and, then, more calmly: “Look, I know. And I know that you’ve been through tougher stuff. And that you can handle yourself. But that whole thing could’ve gone badly for you, for the baby, for us, in a thousand different ways. Besides, it’s not just that. Ever since we left that exam room, on Monday, I’ve been scared, worried. Because, according to the doctor, the tiniest problem could get you on edge. Because of the tiniest problem, I could lose you. I could lose everything, babe!” You could only stare at him in shock, after hearing that. Of course, you understood his concerns, but you had been so absorbed in your own fears, that you never thought about how much the whole situation was affecting him. Your formerly brave soldier, now tough detective, was also a very anxious man ⎯ who always overthought every single detail of everything when it came to you ⎯ and was, now, crying his eyes out, sobbing like a little kid by your side. So you did the one thing you thought could make him feel better: you pulled him closer to you, letting him break, into your chest, as he listened to your soothing heartbeat.
“It’s alright, my love, it’s alright. Shhh, I’m right here and I’m safe. We both are. You don’t need to be afraid, because we’re not going anywhere, baby.” You promised him with tears already pricking through your eyes, as well.
And, like that, you two stayed, crying in each other’s arms, just holding each other. With a renewed hope that everything was gonna be okay.

Confessions pt2 - Reader x Driver
So here we have part two of Confessions . I had a hard time to understand how much I wanted to actually write. But it ended with some hard makeout session at the end. So if you ain't comfortable to read it to (--), it's nothing graphic more than naked skin. BUT ENJOY!
You ended up meeting him for the date night he promised you
Words: 2700 (ish)
Warning: Mention of alcohol and smut-ish
To overthink was nothing new, somedays you had better days, but lately it has been a constant thing for your to-do-list, everything started when you realize that he was the only one with a new phone number. You couldn’t contact him, if you didn’t send a direct message on Instagram. But thanks to him being a famous racing car driver you knew that he wouldn't be contactable on the app.
After that night you had been waiting for a text, a phone call or just something to ease your racing mind. To make you know that he thought about you just as much that you thought about him. He had confessed his love to you. If he wasn’t just drunkenly babbling stuff. But drunk sayings are sober thoughts as they say.
One thing that really made you uneasy is his reputation, what was so special about you that made him want to change? It was an open secret around the sport that he was a player. He always liked the attention, the girls flocking around him. Or so it appeared in interviews and videos. He would give a lucky girl a night to remember, but for him, it was only a challenge to get a girl the fastest and take her home. And you, you weren’t a one night stand kind of person, never been and never will be.
So here you are now, one and a half weeks later, in total radio silence. Waiting for him to reach out. In the heat of the moment you didn’t think about getting his number as well when he asked you about yours. And it felt wrong to send him a message on Instagram of all places. And who knews, he probably never checks his direct messengers on the named app. If it was you, you wouldn’t even bother to check the thousands of messengers they probably get sent everyday.
With phone in hand you scrolled through Instagram, trying to smooth the nagging feeling in your chest by looking at his profile. The whole circus was in the Netherlands this weekend to race. The new posts from this week were only pictures on his car from practise sessions. Which in say might not be so bad, the car’s livery is amazing this seson and you couldn’t say that it wasn’t kind of hot to see him drive on track. But just in this moment, you missed his face. Just to see in his eyes that he maybe did just as bad as you did to be countries apart.
You sight and put away your phone, it doesn’t make anything better to be here, late at night, looking at pictures of a man who probably only thought about racing this weekend. It was late, midnight was soon about to pass and you were working tomorrow. Bedtime it is, you decided.
After brushing your teeth and getting ready for bed you heard your phone go off. Vibrating like it’s life depended on it in the silence of your apartment. You picked it up and faced the display, unknown number it said. Who would be calling you at this time? A small part in you hoped that it would be him. That he had been laying awake, thinking about you, not being able to sleep and just needed to call you, hear your voice. You answered the call with hope in your chest. What if it wasn’t him?
“Hi,” you let out a breath you didn’t know you held when a familiar voice came through the line. “I’m sorry that I haven’t called earlier. It’s been a stressful couple of days.” You could hear it in his voice how tired and apologetic he sounded.
“It’s alright. I understand, It’s been a lot for me too,” you lied. It had been calm at work the past couple of days and it stressed you out. You needed customers to keep your pub going and the few regulars wasn't enough anymore when the business premises rent increased.
“So, I’ve been thinking about that date we talked about.” He said and your heartbeat started to race. Was he actually serious about that date after all?
“Yeah, what did you realise from that?” You let yourself ask.
“That I miss you, dearly,” you melted. He was actually serious! Or so you hoped that he was. “And we have two weeks till the next race after this one. So I thought about paying you a visit. If that’s not a problem. And like, I don’t know, make that drink I now owe you.”
“I would love that,” you smiled to yourself.
“Perfect, I really need to sleep now. But I call you and we make up the day and time!” You let out a small giggle and agreed, wishing him good luck on the weekend and a good night’s sleep before ending the call. The anxiety you had felt the last couple of days disappeared in an instant, making you fall asleep with a smile stuck on your face.
***
It was five days after the phone call that you decided to meet up, he was supposed to pick you up at five to invite you to dinner at his place, at his place! You were elated and had been trying to pick out something to wear for the last hour. What was the meaning for this date? Get to know each other? You had been talking at your pub for months. Sure, you didn’t know who he was alone, between the four walls he called home. But you could say that you knew who he was quite well when he was out. But five different dresses, two pairs of jeans and a skirt later you decided for something casual. A dress would be fine, it was quite sexuall in you should be honest but you felt yourself tonight. It was him, you had seen him drunk more times that when you had seen him sober at this time.
Five past five you got a text messenger that told you that he was outside, waiting. Putting on a jacket and your shoes, you made your way outside. His sports car stuck out along the sidewalk, making you feel small and out of place. He was rich, you knew that, but did he have to flex it on you?
You open the car door and slink into the soft seat. It was an amazing car, the outline of it made it easy to look at and the inside was screamingly expensive.
“Hi, you look beautiful tonight,” he said quietly. It made you feel better that he acted as nervous as you felt.
“Thank you,” you gave him a smile as he put a hand on your bare thigh. As a reflex you put your hand on his. Everything felt so natural, like the two of you had done this thousands of times before.
“I’m going to say this now so you are aware. But I got a spare room! But I promised you drinks and I’ve been to the shop just now, and I’m going to drink as well so I won’t be able to drive you home later.” You appreciated his honesty. But if you should be honest, you had been secretly wishing for a night at his place.
“I’m fine about that. Kind of had it coming when you talked about alcohol involved.” You watched the city move past the windows off the car as he drove you two, music on low volym and his hand still on you. Your chest is warm with so many feelings that you couldn’t name.
The car ride wasn’t long, the both of you had made smalltalk about the previous race weekend and his result. How he felt about it and what he expected for the next one. It was easy, almost too easy, you couldn't shake it off how everything felt so right.
“So, this is me.” He had said when you later had parked the car and made your way up to his apartment. He opened the door and the first thing you noticed was the view. It was a beautiful city you lived in and his apartment had the best view. The sun was setting and the pink and orange colors colored the white walls with a livingness you otherwise only saw in your dreams.
“It’s beautiful,” you say when you could tear your eyes away from the view to look around his home. It wasn’t big but it was really cossy. The kitchen was neat and the living room was framing the big windows that caught the beautiful city outside.
“Thanks, I thought about making you dinner first, don’t want you to get alcohol poisoning from my amazing drinks,” he said as he was on his way to the kitchen.
“Oh, please. I don’t think it’s something positive to kill someone on the first date you know?” He flashed you a challenging smile.
“If you say so.” The two of you started the dinner he had preplanned. You prepared the potatoes as he got the meat ready. Set the table and lit candles. It was melting your heart to get to do all this with him. To set the atmosphere together.
The food soon was placed on the table and you both enjoyed the meal. Talking about how both of your jobs went and what the plans were in twenty years, what you had for goals in life.
***
“Okay, I’ve been practicing. I’m not gonna lie.” He said as he started to take out a couple of bottles. “And because everyone likes Moscow Mule, I'm going to make one for you as a starter.” You nod in agreement as you watch him mix Smirnoff and Ginger beer.
A couple of minutes later he poured up two glasses, one each, and made his way over to the soffa where you had seated yourself with a pillow you found in your lap. You take the drink from him when he takes a seat next to you, an arm behind you on the backrest. You take a sip from the drink, trying it, seeing if it’s as good as the one you make daily.
“This is really good,” you say. And you can hear it in your own voice how the surprise came out.
“I said it before, I only go to your pub to get to see and talk to you, I usually make my own drinks if I feel like drinking.” He says and you feel how he lays his arm around you, it’s hesitated but he hugs your shoulder and you can’t help yourself as you lay your head against his shoulder. Taking another sip on your drink.
The candles now on the coffee table in front of you make it perfect. The two of you, a drink each and the small tune of some romance playlist he absolutely should have playing in the background. You had been arguing about the music before you started to cook the food, but now, he was right. It was an amazing playlist and fit the mood.
You finished your drink when you saw that he was already done with his. You had decided that you should be taking turns on mixing drinks. You gesticulated for his empty glass and made your way over to the table he had put all the bottles on.
“One or two?” You ask.
“Hmm, which one is the strongest?” He asks with a smile on his lips.
“They are quite equal in that, but I think you would love this one,” you said and started to blend the ingredients. You bring the finished drinks back and give him his glass back. Watching him take a sip, trying it out.
“Oh, my God. This is amazing.” He says and takes another sip. You laugh.
That’s the name of it. Isn’t it amazing. The Oh, My God drink.” You laugh and take a sip of your own.
“It’s an amazing name for it.” He places his arm behind you again, playing with the ends of your hair. Drinking the drink and watching the candle dance in front of you.
His hand found his way into your hair, feeling how it stops and how he starts drawing circles behind your ear. How he gently turns your head so the two of you face each other. You get eye contact before you turn your gaze away, the nervousness starts to creep up on you. Your heart sped up and you can’t help but let your gaze linger on his lips. Wishing for the plump lips to be on yours. But what you didn’t know was that he was thinking the exact same thing. You could see how his lips came closer to your face as you let your eyes meet him. You can see the question in his eyes, licking his lips. And without overthinking about it, you press your lips to his, placing your drink on the table and then place your hand in his hair. Oh, what you had fantasised to drag your fingers through his hair.
He had placed his own glass at the table and soon had his hands on your hips, guiding your leg over his so you straddle his hips. Deepening the kiss as you feel his hands roaming your body as he tries to remember every inch of every curve that makes your body yours. You both high on each other, his hands not still on one place longer than a second and your hands in his hair, trying to get a grip on the situation. You feel how his tongue tries to get past your lips, and with no resistance at all, you part your lips. Both your tongues fight for dominance as you continue. But soon the air in your lungs ends and you need to break the kiss.
“If we continue this, I’m not sure I can end it.” He says breathlessly. His face is buried in your neck and you feel how he leaves kisses from your ear down to your collarbone.
“I don’t know if I want you to stop,” you let out a moan as he placed a kiss behind your ear on your sweet spot.
“You sure?” He asks, leaning back to look into your eyes. You meet his eyes and for a second you only sit like that. Letting the situation sink in, you in his lap, his kiss swollen lips and a desire for the both of you ecually strong for each other. You let your eyes close as you lean into his touch, breathing in his scent and feeling how he guides you to a new kiss.
--
“Then let's take this to the bedroom instead.” He grabs your lover back with one hand and carefully stands up by pushing himself up with the other hand. You lock your legs around his hips as his free hand finds its place under your bum, squeeze it as he connects your lips once again.
He guided the both of you to his bedroom, never breaking the kiss more than to breathe. He stops walking and you break the kiss to ask why he stops, but the only thing that leaves your lips is a small surprise sound as he drops you onto a soft fabrik, the bed.
“I’ve been thinking about this for so long, you have no idea what you do to me,” he says and buries his head in the crock of your neck, leaving kisses downwards.
“So have I, and I hope all your rumors are more than talk.” He looks into your eyes before pushing your dress up, letting his hands explore your naked legs, but his eyes never leave yours.
“Oh, baby, you have no idea what I can do to you,” and you hadn't, the evening had ended with the both of you, high of the orgasm and a new feeling he had named that day in your pub when he had first told you about his feelings. He was the love of your life as well. And you hoped that your story had only started.

~ Yandere Jaemin - The jester ~
[hi babies, this is one part of my nct fairytale series this one based on Alice in wonderland with jaemin <3, it had influence from both the original book and the book by marissa meyer centred in the universe + a lil of my own stuff]
I love alice in wonderland and jaemin so I’m so sorry how long this is lmao also yes I did write all of this on the same day ;-;
wc: 3.6k
summary : you live in wonderland, and everything is normal until a stranger shows up - a jester who says he’s looking for you, he seems innocent and sweet but is he really?
TW / trigger warning: yandere themes, mentions of - violence, murder, swearing, blood/gore, 18+ (suggestive), etc
The yearly mock festival was coming to an end. Humans and creatures alike were slowly making their way to the stairs and to the comfort of their homes. A stranger was also making their way over but not to his home, to the crowd. He slipped through it unnoticed and stopped, bowing in front of the queen.
She looked at him in curiosity but also in fascination. He was very much used to this, having people stare at his beauty and the way he presented himself - elegant and cocky.
‘‘ My majesty. I come to seek refuge in your town ‘‘ the stranger said.
The queen raised her eyebrow at him and waved at the deck of cards close by, almost stumbling over their own feet in fear of displeasing the queen.
‘‘ Show this gorgeous stranger that empty house ‘‘ the queen demanded to the cards in a shrill voice.
‘‘ Yes ma’am. Come this way! ‘‘ they answered in union.
The stranger followed them in silence but kept his distance. They went far and near, up and down the crossroads and curvy paths until they reached a small cottage. It was far from the other houses and the village but he liked it immediately.
‘‘ Here we are sir! ‘‘ the cards exclaimed in union again and turned like robots ready to go back the way they came and serve the queen, it was all they knew after all.
‘‘ Excuse me ‘‘ the stranger had had one thing and one thing only on his mind throughout the whole trip there.
The reason he was here in the first place
You
‘‘ Do you happen to know where...y/n is? ‘‘
The deck of cards looked baffled, one of them even chuckled.
‘‘ y/n? Why would you want to see her sir, she’s so very eh- ‘‘ one said
‘‘ -mad ‘‘ another filled in.
‘‘ Who are you anyway? ‘‘ said another
‘‘ Jaemin, I’m a jester from far far away ‘‘ he said with clenched teeth, growing impatient at the lack of answer he was getting.
‘‘ Why would you like to see her? ‘‘ said one
‘‘ She’s not special ‘‘ said yet another
‘‘ I have to ‘‘ he said firmly and was now clenching his fist.
‘‘ She’s not far from here sir. She lives in the cottage opposite this forest ‘‘ said one card with cloves on his front.
‘‘ Thank you ‘‘ Jaemin exclaimed in relief and watched as the deck of cards turned and walked down the path.
On the outside it looked like an old cottage like any other, with broken windows and an overgrown garden. The jester wasn’t surprised, they must’ve given him the most ugly and worn out house since he was still a stranger but with a few snaps of his fingers, the inside would look a lot better than the outside.
As he had finished snapping his fingers three times he saw the familiar white cloud in the window but before he walked in he had to check around the area. He thought he heard the rustling of leaves and twigs being broken.
Looking to his right, he saw in the distance how a girl was walking towards him. Instinctively his heart started to beat faster because what if it was you? The girl was wearing a dress which was blue and she had a white apron tightly wrapped around her which was full of flour. In her right hand she was holding a basket filled with something and her hair shone bright in the sunlight that was peeking through the thick trees above.
// YOUR POV //
You were just about to walk past your favourite abandoned cabin when you noticed, it was no longer abandoned. A handsome young man, about the same age as yourself was standing outside it. You being all alone though, this far out from other people made you scared so you kept your head down right when you passed by him.
‘‘ Hey! ‘‘ you sighed in disappointment, all too often creepy men or creatures would try to stop you and flirt which made you very uncomfortable.
You tried to put on a fake smile before you turned to face him.
‘‘ Hi! ‘‘
‘‘ You’re y/n ‘‘ he stated.
You probably looked very confused to the stranger. How did he know your name? In this wide land, you were a nobody and this random man you just stumbled upon seems to know who you are - by the look of his curious brown eyes studying you - maybe he even knew everything about you.
‘‘ Yes..sir. Can I help you? ‘‘ you asked hesitantly and wanted to punch yourself for sounding so small and helpless.
The boy took some time to answer, suddenly looking a bit nervous the way he fumbled with his hands.
‘‘ Oh, I just. I’m your new neighbour, Jaemin. The cards said I might meet a young woman here who lived close by ‘‘
Shit, you were really too paranoid sometimes, this was just a harmless boy who had moved in right next to you.
‘‘ Oh! Yes of course ‘‘ you smiled at him with more genuine warmth now
‘‘ Welcome to the neighbourhood then I suppose ‘‘
They boy nodded and chuckled. He was very attractive, and you were pretty sure he knew it. Tall, dark and handsome with puppy like brown eyes and fluffy hair. He had a defined nose and rosy lips that matched his smooth and beautiful skin. But the most attractive thing about him, to you, was the way he carried himself.
That smile could just about make any girl fall for him, maybe even worship him. As he stood there looking at you become entranced with his beauty you began to wonder if he was using magic on you so you put your guard up again slightly.
‘‘ Thank you. I hope to see you around, where do you work? ‘‘ he asked and you almost bit your lip at the look he was giving you, it was very intense and his smile yet again so charming.
‘‘ Oh! ‘‘ you exclaimed suddenly, you had forgotten to answer and had just stared at him getting completely lost. You saw him smirking at this.
‘‘ I-I work at the bakery in town, hence- ‘‘ you gestured to your flour dusted apron and dress with a sad smile.
He laughed heartily but assured you,
‘‘ You look fine, trust me ‘‘
You smiled shyly in response. It felt like he was kind of flirting, he was giving you that look again that both turned you on and made you creeped out, it said
I know everything about you
Nevertheless if that was the case, you felt very much intrigued with this new stranger and you didn’t want him to be a stranger for long.
‘‘ I suppose I’ll see you around then ‘‘ you said suddenly when the tension had built up even more and you started remembering all the responsibilities you had at your work.
It felt like you had been here for about an hour and you had muffins to bake and customers to please.
‘‘ I suppose you will ‘‘ he answered with an amused glint in his eyes.
You decided to turn even though your body and heart really wanted to stay. Your intuition and head however won over the battle inside you and told you to get the fuck away from him.
You kept your back turned as you made you way past the mysterious boy. You had a feeling that he was still watching you as you went, eyes never leaving you and it freaked you out a little, making you shudder.
The rest of the day went on as if it was like any other day. Tons of baking and getting your hands dirty, chatty customers and delicious desserts. By the end of the long workday your muscles were aching. You cleaned up and did your usual routine of locking up the store when everyone had left.
Usually you wouldn’t think twice about walking home in the dark, your bakery closed at midnight so it was way past sunset. It was practically pitch black outside and no one was on the streets, they were all at home probably sound asleep. For some reason the queen had decided that all houses be soundproof in the village. So the fear was increasing when you thought about the stranger, the dark and walking home alone because if something happened no one would help you - they wouldn’t hear you scream or hear you cry out for help.
You turned the key that locked the bakery with shaky hands but tried to compose yourself. You had a very odd and naive thought in your head,
If I don’t get attacked tonight I can trust Jaemin
It truly didn’t make any sense but just about every cell in your body wanted to trust him, and wanted him to like you, like the way you were so attracted to him.
‘‘ y/n? ‘‘ a voice behind you said interrupting your thoughts.
You shrieked and jumped in surprise, throwing your arms up in some pathetic attempt at defence in case you’d need it.
‘‘ It’s just me, your neighbour ‘‘
You lowered your arms and smiled at him apologetically.
‘‘ Sorry ‘‘
‘‘ Don’t be I get it. It’s dark, no one’s around and I just startled you like that, I should be the one to apologise ‘‘
‘‘ No no, it’s just that I don’t like walking home in the dark ‘‘ you assured him, now feeling really guilty.
‘‘ I can walk you home ‘‘ he offered with a friendly smile.
You were silent for a bit, thinking to yourself before making up your mind.
‘‘ Yeah, I’d like that. Thank you ‘‘ you returned back the smile even though you still felt a bit uncomfortable.
Jaemin joined your side and waited for you to step away from the shop and decide the pace.
You walked in silence beside each other. You felt a bit nervous, not really being sure if you were supposed to start a conversation or not but then it dawned upon you, why the fuck was he alone there in the village anyway?
You glanced at him quickly to see if it would give you a clue to this mystery but he looked as he always did, nothing was different. So you decided to drop it and thankfully you didn’t have much more time to overthink about it because your house had now appeared in sight.
He still had a chance to take you if he wanted to, it was dark, quiet and no neighbours were close except for well...conveniently enough, him. But he didn’t. He kept his distance all the way up to the house and stepped back when you got up on the porch.
‘‘ Thank you ‘‘
‘‘ My pleasure miss ‘‘ he said with the same amused glint in his eyes.
You turned around and walked in, closing the door and locking it. Well inside you leaned on the door allowing yourself to calm down a bit.
He didn’t do anything
You shrugged and went upstairs, getting ready for bed and falling asleep not long after your head touched the pillow.
-
The next day he was the first thing you thought about in the morning before you jumped to your feet and rushed to put on your clothes and get to work.
You broke into a sprint constantly mumbling fuck to yourself and basically bursting in the bakery. The few customers inside and the cashier you had hired looked at you in shock.
You stopped for a bit to catch your breath before explaining, still out of breath to the cashier.
‘‘ The-Ball-I-Have-To-Bake ‘‘ you managed to press out between every breath.
The cashier gasped and immediately left the desk.
‘‘ I’ll bring you the ingredients ‘‘
You swallowed and nodded to the customers when you walked past them disappearing into the back room where you did your magic.
You put down your stuff and put on your apron already in action when the cashier came in, put the ingredients on the table and hurried out again.
You ended up making several pastries and cakes to the queen’s liking and by the end - about six hours of straight baking, you were so exhausted you decided not to go to the ball.
The cashier peeked her head in about an hour before it was to start.
‘‘ I’ll send these up? ‘‘ she walked up to the finished products and you just nodded at her, drying off the sweat that had formed on your forehead.
After that you spent the rest of the hour leading up to the ball cleaning up all the mess you had created.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK
You sighed, it was already closed but you have had to deal with customers knocking anyway wanting treats when you weren’t open. You put down your cleaning supplies and hurried to the door. Through the glass door you saw the outline of your neighbour.
‘‘ Jaemin? ‘‘
He shook his head and tutted at your state when you opened the door.
‘‘ Do I really look that bad? ‘‘ you said and glanced down quickly.
‘‘ For a ball, yes. Otherwise, no you look exceptional ‘‘ he said
You snorted at his flirty comment.
‘‘ I’m not going, too busy ‘‘
‘‘ What? No way. I won’t let that happen ‘‘
You turned to face him again, having walked up behind the desk to count today’s money. He leaned over the desk and tried to give you his puppy eyes.
‘‘ I can’t go like this Jaemin, sorry ‘‘ you said and shrugged your shoulders.
He scrunched his nose and stopped trying to use his puppy eyes on you now.
‘‘ I have magic ‘‘ he tilted his head when he saw this caught your attention.
‘‘ Really? You’re a jester? ‘‘ you rolled your eyes.
‘‘ What, is it not cool enough for miss or something? ‘‘ he jumped over the counter effortlessly and was now standing very close to you, closer than he’d ever been before.
They way he was towering over you basically looking down on you made you chuckle unexpectedly.
‘‘ Yeah sure it’s cool enough I guess ‘‘ you answered playfully attempting to push him out the way so you could walk past.
He put his arm out, not letting you.
‘‘ Do you use it a lot on the ladies? ‘‘ you added and held the eye-contact
He snickered and made a very cute expression which made your heart melt.
‘‘ Of course. Every time ‘‘ he said sarcastically ‘‘ Now, will you let me ‘‘ he waved to your messy state.
‘‘ I guess why not ‘‘ you said and closed your eyes.
When it was silent for a few seconds you opened them again and you saw white clouds surrounding you all around, when it had cleared and disappeared completely you could finally see his work.
You were wearing a champagne coloured silk dress that was quite tight at the top with spaghetti straps and flowed out at the bottom, highlighting your curves. Looking at you hands, they as well were polished and clean and you hair was in a sleek ponytail, feeling as if it had been washed.
‘‘ I’m impressed ‘‘ you said at last when you noticed his worried expression, anxiously waiting for your opinion.
He exhaled deeply.
‘‘ Thank god ‘‘
You giggled at his cuteness.
‘‘ Shall we go? ‘‘
‘‘ Certainly ‘‘ he answered and extended his arm for you to take.
The walk this time was also pretty quiet, the castle wasn’t too far away you could already see it from here but you just couldn’t help yourself,
‘‘ Hey Jaemin? ‘‘
‘‘ Yeah ‘‘
‘‘ What were you doing so late at night in the village yesterday? ‘‘
Although you didn’t look at him, you could feel him get a bit uncomfortable.
‘‘ Browsing I guess ‘‘ it was your turn to feel uncomfortable now, all the stores closed a lot earlier than your bakery and everyone in town knew that but he hastily added, ‘‘ The villagers told me your bakery closed very late so I thought I’d go by and buy something. Unfortunately it was closed though ‘‘ he laughed and looked down shyly when you looked at him in surprise.
‘‘ Why’s that, horrible sweet-tooth? ‘‘ you said
‘‘ No, just wanted to support my neighbour. That’s all ‘‘
You nodded and felt a bit guilty for being suspicious of him. If your guards hadn’t been down before they sure were now, basically in hell. You felt incredibly comfortable and at ease with Jaemin and you did for a moment think you were starting to fall in love with him.
This feeling would arise again when you had finally reached the castle and were greeted by the white rabbit.
‘‘ Invitations and names please ‘‘ he said in a stressed voice, his eyes all the time looking back and forth, darting between guests.
The jester gave the rabbit one of his charming smiles and you watched as he interacted with other people, even that was attractive, god what was wrong with you?
He fixed everything for the two of you, showing both of your invitations and names and you leant back letting someone else do the work for the first time in your life. It was nice, this weird feeling of being taken cared of.
He took your hand when the rabbit let you through and he lead you towards the dessert table. You raised your eyebrow at him when he started basically inhaling entire pastries of yours.
‘‘ I have to see how talented you are ‘‘ he defended himself when he saw your judging look.
You rolled your eyes and waited for him to finish, eyeing the other guests as you did. When he finally was done - after eating half the table you noticed - he dragged you out on the dance floor.
It was a slow song. You gave him a shy look, not sure if you wanted him to see how much you liked loved him or for onlookers to see that either for that matter. But he insisted, pulling you close to him and starting to rock slowly to the beat of the music. He gave you a big childish grin and you laughed, starting to move as well and letting you be drowned in this feeling.
It felt like it truly was just you and him in this world, and he would protect you and love you forever. He could do you no harm, he was amazing.
You probably radiated these feelings through the lovingly eyes you were giving him and he looked at you the same way. Everyone else faded away and it felt like you were in a fairytale, just how magical it all felt...until it didn’t,
The music was abruptly stopped and murmuring filled the hall. You didn’t have the energy to worry about it so you leaned your head again Jaemin’s chest feeling sleepy. In the distance through your dazed eyes you saw the white rabbit approach you, until he wasn’t very blurry anymore, he was clear and right in front of you clearing his throat.
‘‘ Miss you need to come with me right now ‘‘ the rabbit said in a shaky voice.
‘’ Hm? ‘‘ you said sleepily not yet leaving Jaemin’s arms.
‘‘ What’s going on? ‘‘ Jaemin said in a worriedly.
‘‘ It’s uh, something very terrible has happened to her parents sir ‘‘ the rabbit looked down on the ground under the intense stare of the jester.
‘‘ Let’s go, y/n ‘‘ he whispered to you gently and took your hand.
You had no idea what was going on but followed like a lost puppy. The rabbit lead you to a carriage which you were put in and sent off. It stopped outside your parents house, a mansion closer to Jaemin’s house than it was your own - on the outskirts of town.
‘‘ Wait here. I’ll see what’s wrong ‘‘ he said and stepped out.
Your head felt heavy, like you’d fall into eternal sleep any minute now - that’s how tired you felt, like you hadn’t slept for decades.
‘‘ y/n dear? ‘‘ the carriage door opened again and two hands extended to take your weight. You walked up to it, staggering and let yourself be lifted down.
Everything was a bit blurry but you could make out the familiar outline of your parents on the ground. They were in front of their front door and they didn’t seem to be moving. Blood was flowing out from their necks and their limbs were twisted in weird, unnatural angles.
Oh
This must’ve been the terrible thing the rabbit had been talking about...
You tried to walk towards your parents but your foot hit something. You looked down and jumped back in surprise. It was another body, no - you looked around, it was several bodies of the guards.
‘‘ What happened to them? ‘‘ you asked Jaemin in a horrified voice.
‘‘ I don’t know ‘‘ he said and bit his lip, lowering his raised right hand and entwining his left one with yours.
‘‘ Look at me y/n ‘‘
You turned to look at him, starting to feel a bit overwhelmed and scared of everything going on. You felt crazy, like you had no idea what was real and what wasn’t.
‘‘ You and I, we’re gonna live together. Far far away from here and we will be happy forever because you love me right? Say it! ‘‘ he roared the last words but you weren’t scared. You just looked at him with loving eyes.
‘‘ I love you ‘‘ you said like a robot,
completely entranced
you were his
forever

Tower 2 EP 6-66 Entire Chapter
EP 6-66-1
S.T.Y.X. Tartarus
JAMIL: It’s so deep I can’t see the bottom. JAMIL: The staff called this place “Tartarus,” correct? I wonder how many stairs it has.
LEONA: They mentioned it’s got twelve floors, but the map doesn’t say how many stairs there are between each floor. LEONA: Hey, gimme one of those tinkling things in your hair.
JAMIL: Huh? Oh, um, here.
Toss
Fyuuuuuuu…
LEONA: … No sound of it hitting the bottom. Looks like it’s safe to say there’s way over thirty, no, fifty staircases heading down.
JAMIL: Did you really have to use something of mine to test that?
LEONA: Then don’t hand it over in the first place. Quit sweating the small stuff.
JAMIL: … I’m not “sweating the small stuff.” It’s an honor to be of assistance.
LEONA: That ain’t what your smile says.
JAMIL: We should probably start by obtaining the anti-Phantom weapon “Thunder Spear.”
LEONA: It’s in the sixth floor storeroom, right?
JAMIL: According to the map, there’s an elevator nearby- there it is.
LEONA: No doubt it’s locked up to keep us from heading further down.
Whirrrrrr
Whoosh
JAMIL+LEONA: …
LEONA: And the moment we get to it, the doors open all on their own. LEONA: Those damn brothers are goading us on.
JAMIL: This entire facility’s under Ortho’s control, after all. JAMIL: I’m sure this is a trap. As it may be dangerous, I’ll go first-
LEONA: Let’s get a move on.
JAMIL: Wai- hold on- Leona! Please don’t barge ahead by yourself!
ORTHO: Hello! Welcome, Tower 2 participants, to the haunted asylum “Tartarus!”
JAMIL: Aaaand there he is.
ORTHO: Aw come on, why the lackluster response? I hoped you’d be a bit more surprised.
LEONA: We pitiful humans can’t possibly fathom the depths of a robot’s mind, now can we?
ORTHO: … Hehe. A “robot’s,” huh? ORTHO: Guess I’ll have to work a little harder for a bigger surprise next time! Of course… ORTHO: That’s if there’s a next time.
JAMIL: What?
ORTHO: I wonder if the two of you will be able to overcome the trials we’ve got planned?
LEONA: Trials?
JAMIL: Just what are you planning…!? Please stand back, Leona!
LEONA: How’s anyone supposed to “stand back” in a tiny little elevator like this? Geez, you’re annoying.
ORTHO: Tadaaa!
JAMIL: Hm? “Hydra’s Counterattack” is shining on the wall?
LEONA: You mean that ridiculous game we killed time with earlier?
ORTHO: That’s right! Your first trial is to clear “Hydra’s Counterattack!” ORTHO: If you can clear this game, I’ll grant you both the right to challenge us!
JAMIL: A video game? Now? What is he planning? JAMIL: Leona, I’ll play it.
LEONA: You will?
JAMIL: Challenging this recklessly is too dangerous when we have no idea what kind of traps there might be.
LEONA: It’s seriously just a TV video game.
JAMIL: We can’t be to careful. For example, we could get shocked the moment we grip the controller-
ORTHO: Come oooon, you’re overthinking this. I wouldn’t do something that violent.
LEONA: Hahhh… whatever. If you’re that hyped then have at it.
ORTHO: Our player this time is Jamil Viper! I can’t wait to see how he’ll do! ORTHO: Ready? Start!
Game Start
LOSE!
EP 6-66-2
S.T.Y.X. Tartarus
LEONA: Ahahaha! A game over in seconds? Laaaame.
JAMIL: Hold on a moment!! JAMIL: What was that!? The difficulty level so much higher than when Leona played!!
ORTHO: Of course it was! There’s no fun in playing a game the same way twice!
LEONA: Pretty lame show from someone who talked so big.
JAMIL: Who’s side are you on!? JAMIL: Still, I’ll take responsibility for my own loss. If it comes to it, I’ll sacrifice myself to-
ORTHO: Don’t take it so seriously! Games are for having fun, after all. ORTHO: All right, I’ll lower the difficulty for you! ORTHO: Grab that controller and get ready to try again!
Game Start
WIN!
EP 6-66-3
S.T.Y.X. Tartarus
JAMIL: All right! How’s that!?
ORTHO: This time you scored pretty high! Experience matters for sure. ORTHO: I hope you keep up that momentum and blast through the next few missions of Tartarus!
JAMIL: “Missions?”
ORTHO: Yep! From here on is an ultra hard dungeon chock-full of Phantoms. ORTHO: Better be careful so you don’t get ambushed by any monsters too high above your current level!
LEONA: Doesn’t matter to me what pops out on us. I’m gonna make it all the way down there and blow out both your hair. LEONA: Better look forward to it.
ORTHO: … Got it. I’ll wait right here with my big brother. ORTHO: I’m really, reaaaally and truly looking forward to seeing you!
S.T.Y.X. Tartarus- Emergency Exit
LEONA: The hell’s that supposed to mean? “Looking forward to seeing you?”
JAMIL: I agree. JAMIL: Calling Tartarus an “ultra hard dungeon” and treating this like a game…
LEONA: What, would that make all of us characters they’re controlling? Don’t make me laugh.
JAMIL: It seems this elevator won’t go any further. Let’s proceed down these stairs with caution instead. JAMIL: As we have no idea what could happen form here on out, please stay close to me.
LEONA: Hahh…
Ep 6-66-4 Tower 2
S.T.Y.X. Tartarus- Emergency Exit
JAMIL: All this walking and I’m still cold. JAMIL: This place is unexpectedly chilly.
LEONA: Tartarus is supposed to be a giant Phantom freezer. LEONA: If they started building this place back in the era of the gods, that’d explain why it’s set into the freezing depths of the ocean.
JAMIL: It’s not a good match-up for us, who are from the Sunset Savannah and the Scalding Sands.
LEONA: For sure. I can’t call this place comfy even with our temperature-regulating dorm uniforms.
JAMIL: Oh, do you need an extra layer? You’re welcome to borrow my sweater and adjust it with magic-
LEONA: Who asked for that? Besides, that’d defeat the purpose- you’d be slowing down from cold instead. LEONA: I’d rather hurry up and rip the leaves off that Radish Sprout so I can vacate this place and get some sleep.
JAMIL: Right. I’m worried about our school too.
LEONA: … Worried? About that place?
JAMIL: As of now the only housewardens remaining at Nightraven College are Malleus and Kalim. JAMIL: The entire school, Scarabia included, are no doubt chaotic right now.
LEONA: Hmmm LEONA: You’re saying you’re worried about leaving your housewarden in charge by his lonesome, is that right?
JAMIL: No, that’s not what I meant. Aren’t you concerned about the students of your dorm as well? JAMIL: Savanaclaw has no vice housewarden. Surely they’re in a panic with your absence.
LEONA: As if I care. They can do what they want.
JAMIL: How can you irresponsibly pass this off with “as if I care?” - Hm? JAMIL: I didn’t notice it before thanks to the draft coming from below, but… there’s another breeze.
LEONA: Yep. A light wind’s been blow at us from the side for the past few minutes.
JAMIL: Ah! Just ahead there’s a small side path from the wall!
LEONA: Too dark to see into it, and it’s a perfect place for anything to hide. LEONA: I’d say there’s a good chance a Phantom that’s thawed out already is hiding in there.
JAMIL: Please stand back. I’ll check it out alone.
LEONA: Huh? LEONA: Say what?
JAMIL: Hm? JAMIL: You’re the second prince of the Sunset Savannah as well as the housewarden of Savanaclaw. It’s only natural I go first. JAMIL: On top of that, I’m lighter on my feet. Oh, of course I’m not calling you slow or anything.
LEONA: ………
JAMIL: Simply put, I’m worried about you. Nothing I could do would make up for it if anything happened to you.
LEONA: Hah! Worried? “Make up for it?” LEONA: You actually think that you need to- hold up.
???: Screeee!!
LEONA: Looks like we’re too late. Something’s heading our way.
JAMIL: Of course it is… We’ll just have to face it!
Battle
Victory
EP 6-66-5
S.T.Y.X. Tartarus- Emergency Exit
PHANTOM: Screeeeee!!
Fshhhhh…
JAMIL: The Phantom dissolved into… a black sludge? It’s Blot! JAMIL: Ack, Leona, please don’t get too close to it! It might affect you!
LEONA: Tch. You don’t gotta keep warning me about the dangers of Blot or getting too close to enemies- I already know! LEONA: … Now that I get a good look at it that stuff’s disgusting. Makes my skin crawl.
JAMIL: The way it oozes like spilt ink, staining whatever it touches, then dries and vanishes- JAMIL: … Had we been stuck in Overblot, we might’ve ended up like that too.
LEONA: Hmm. LEONA: All mages are affected by Blot, no exceptions. The weaker and more untrained the mage, the worse the effect. LEONA: “I’ll check it out alone”? Well don’t you sound confident.
JAMIL: I simply chose the most efficient course of action. Since this is an emergency, we need to be extra cautious. JAMIL: According to the map, there’s an asylum where Phantoms are stored up ahead. JAMIL: The one from a few minutes ago might have escaped from there. JAMIL: From here on out we’ll doubtless be met with more and stronger Phantoms. JAMIL: I’d really prefer if we don’t intentionally seek out extra danger.
LEONA: Hahhh… what’re you, a herbivore cowering in the grass?
JAMIL: Wha- I’m not cowering from anything! I’m trying to make up for your lack of caution!
LEONA: That so? Whatever. Do what you want.
JAMIL: Then I’ll do exactly that.
EP 6-66-6
S.T.Y.X. Tartarus- Asylum
LEONA: I’m gonna wager a guess that all these tough-looking crates are cages.
JAMIL: The entire wall is made up of them. Are there Phantoms in every one of these?
ORTHO: That’s right!
JAMIL+LEONA: !!
ORTHO: You get to enjoy popping them open to find out what kind of surprise Phantom’s inside! ORTHO: It’s like opening a birthday present! Exciting, right?
LEONA: Ortho… how about showing yourself already? I missed you.
ORTHO: Oops! Hi there! ORTHO: It’s great to see the both of you are in tip top shape.
JAMIL: No thanks to you.
ORTHO: I thought loooong and hard after Leona Kingscholar said “We can’t possibly fathom the depths of a robot’s mind.” ORTHO: We’re finally all playing a game together, so it’s got to be an extra fun one! ORTHO: If “being human” means doing things that no person or machine expected… then I’ll pull it off too! ORTHO: Take a look at the top of the cage to your right.
LEONA: To the right… A paper? The hell? LEONA: D, O, U, R- “dour?” What’s this supposed to be, an introductory letter from your home?
ORTHO: Wroooong! That’s a password you’re going to need to get through here.
JAMIL: A password? JAMIL: Does that mean to “pass through here” the ID card we’ve used until now will be-?
ORTHO: You got it! I’ve already deleted the ID card you have on hand from the security system. It won’t work anymore. ORTHO: If you want to open this asylum’s door and move to the next stage you’ll need either a matching ID card or the correct password. ORTHO: What Leona Kingscholar has is only half of the password you need to open that door. ORTHO: The other half iiiis… hidden in one of these cages! ORTHO: Your next trial is to find the right password, open the door and continue on your quest! ORTHO: Best of luck to you!
LEONA: Damn, can’t punch a hologram.
JAMIL: By “hidden in one of the cages,” does he mean we have to open them ourselves?
???: Grahhh!!
LEONA: Looks like our jack-in-the-box is all ready to pop out on its own.
JAMIL: The caged Phantoms are starting to wake up. The longer we take, the worse our situation gets.
LEONA: Yeah, little though I wanna trust that midget’s words, it doesn’t look like we’re getting that door open or leaving from where we came anytime soon otherwise. LEONA: This is a total headache, but we’d better get started cracking open those cages and checking out the contents.
EP 6-66-7
S.T.Y.X. Tartarus- Asylum
PTM- 18776
JAMIL: I’m opening the cage. Please stand behind me.
LEONA: Tch, don’t order me around.
JAMIL: Then please do so before I have to say anything.
LEONA: Hahhh…
JAMIL: Judging by where the latch is on the cages that are already open, this cage’s latch is… there! Take that!
???: Graahhhhh!
JAMIL: It’s a Phantom!
LEONA: I can see that. We’re taking it out.
Battle
Victory!
LEONA: What’s the password?
JAMIL: Hmm. It seems to be “lion.”
LEONA: Lion?
JAMIL: In other words, “dour lion.” Or, “a grumpy lion.”
LEONA: Quit screwing with me-!
JAMIL: That password seems to be incorrect. I do think the contents were correct, at least.
LEONA: Your lip’s the one thing you’ve got going for you, huh?
PTM- 28155
LEONA: Next up’s that cage.
JAMIL: I’ll open this one too.
LEONA: I see Scarabia’s vice housewarden is still a child at heart. Can’t wait to crack open a present box, can we?
JAMIL: Wha- I just want to- JAMIL: Hahhh, talking to this person is pointless. I just have to put up with him until I’ve done what I need to.
???: Gyahhhh!
LEONA: And here comes our enemy. Let’s take it down.
Battle
Victory!
LEONA: Looks like there’s a password here.
JAMIL: “Fin present?” What does that mean?
LEONA: … “Fin ‘d our’ present.” They want us to find their present ourselves.
JAMIL: They sure are having fun mocking us, aren’t they?
LEONA: And on top of that it’s the wrong password.
JAMIL: Tch. That makes it even more irritating.
PTM- 11913
JAMIL: Please stand back while I open this cage.
LEONA: Well aren’t you all fired up. LEONA: Now that you’re done with your oh-so-helpful warning, can you get to it already?
Bang!
???: Screeeeeeeech!!
Battle
Victory!
PHANTOM: Gyaaaaahh!!
JAMIL: That takes care of that cage’s Phantom.
LEONA: Any password note?
JAMIL: Let me see… here it is!
LEONA: What’s it say?
JAMIL: It says… JAMIL: … We should head for the door. JAMIL: It opened! So those words were correct.
LEONA: I’d figured that midget coulda been spilling nothing but lies, but looks like he wasn’t. LEONA: So? What was the password?
JAMIL: … You’re better off not knowing. It’s ticked me off, at least.
LEONA: Just spill it.
JAMIL: Hahh. JAMIL: The only thing on that note was the word “best.”
LEONA: “Best?” If we connect that with the first word were given, we get… LEONA: “Do UR best!” LEONA: Those little- mocking us like this-!!
JAMIL: And that is exactly why I didn’t want to tell you- it would infuriate anyone.
EP 6-66-8
S.T.Y.X. Tartarus- Emergency Exit
JAMIL: The stairs continue down from here.
JAMIL: There’s a good chance that any Phantoms that escaped are hiding up ahead like the those we came across earlier. JAMIL: On top of that we have no idea what else Ortho left in wait for us. Please proceed with care.
LEONA: Phantoms aside, I doubt we’ve gotta worry about that Radish Sprout and his little brother for the time being. LEONA: As fixated as those two are on calling this whole deal a “game,” LEONA: There’s only so much they can do to mess with us all the way from that bottom floor. LEONA: My guess is the most we can expect while on these stairs is a Phantom or five getting in our way. LEONA: Though now that I think about it, they’re going about this in a real roundabout way. Hmmm…
JAMIL: You’re right. JAMIL: I did notice something regarding Ortho, to be honest. JAMIL: If you may recall, when you were fascinated by the game screen while we were passing time earlier today-
LEONA: You looking to become sand?
JAMIL: I’m not the one who described it that way. JAMIL: As I was saying, when you were “batting at the screen,” as Vil and Idia put it…
LEONA: ……
JAMIL: None of us felt the slightest hint of malice from Ortho.
LEONA: Of course not. He’s a robot. They don’t feel emotions in the first place. LEONA: The most they can do is display reactions according to their programming. LEONA: They’re neither good nor evil.
JAMIL: I’m aware. JAMIL: However, when you mocked him for being a robot earlier, Ortho was visibly annoyed. JAMIL: And when he fired back that he would have a “surprise” waiting for us, there was clear malice in his words. JAMIL: Almost as if he were a real human.
LEONA: A human, huh. LEONA: I’d buy it if Idia programmed him to act like an annoying little brat.
???: Screeeech!
JAMIL: Look out!
LEONA: Wha-!?
JAMIL: The Phantom climbed up from below!
PHANTOM: Screee, screeee!!
JAMIL: I’ll clean this one up in a heartbeat!
EP 6-66-9
JAMIL: Phew. Are you all right, Leona?
LEONA: Am I “all right”…? LEONA: What the hell were you thinking?
JAMIL: Huh? What do you mean-
LEONA: I’m not so pathetic I need you jumping in front of every little thing to protect me.
JAMIL: That wasn’t my intention at all-
LEONA: Deflecting an attack like that’s child’s play. You think I didn’t notice that Phantom was there? LEONA: The plan was to lure it to a wider area and take it out all at once, not to flail around on this narrow staircase. LEONA: Impressive how badly you managed to screw that up by needlessly “protecting” me.
JAMIL: Then why didn’t you tell me what you were planning ahead of time instead of complaining after the fact when I interfere because I didn’t know? JAMIL: Besides, I took what I judged to be the best course of action after you told me “to what I want.”
LEONA: Sure, that’s what I said. What I didn’t say was to drag me down with you.
JAMIL: Drag you down?
LEONA: You got hurt “protecting” me, didn’t you? Don’t bother pretending you didn’t. LEONA: We’re marching through enemy territory and they’re all gonna come flooding at us now that one of us has shown weakness. LEONA: If I’d have known you’d , I’d have gone with that eight-faced octo-creep instead. LEONA: Instead I’m saddled with dead weight.
JAMIL: … “Dead weight?” As if. Unlike Azul, I’ve been trained as an escort. JAMIL: Clearly that makes me a better choice to protect you than someone with no stamina. JAMIL: As intelligent as you are, I’m sure you can see that much.
LEONA: You seriously haven’t noticed a thing, have you? I’m starting to pity you.
JAMIL: Say what?
LEONA: Now’s not the time- there’s the door to the next asylum.
JAMIL: Wait- I’m not done- JAMIL: … Hmph. You’ll find yourself in trouble soon enough. JAMIL: And when you do, you’ll regret that you didn’t listen when I said to be careful.
EP 6-66-10
S.T.Y.X. Tartarus- Asylum
ORTHO: Welcome to the third trial!
JAMIL+LEONA: ……
ORTHO: Is something wrong? Did you get into a fight?
JAMIL: None of your business.
ORTHO: Ooooh, scaryyyy! Don’t lash out at me just because you’re sulking! ORTHO: I’m worried whether you’ll be able to complete your next trial at this rate, that’s all. ORTHO: And the next mission iiiis… “He who controls the water controls all!” ORTHO: A real hero keeps fighting even when he’s up to his knees, after all!
LEONA: Water? Are you talking about those pools of water?
ORTHO: Exactly! Those puddles are a coolant to keep everything here nice and cold.
???: Is anyone there!? Help me!!
JAMIL: Was that a voice!?
LEONA: It’s coming from by that toppled cage!
RESEARCHER: Please, help me- cough cough!
JAMIL: Is that a S.T.Y.X. employee? Did he get caught in the coolant and miss his chance to escape? JAMIL: It’s dangerous here! Please get out of there and-
RESEARCHER: I can’t!
LEONA: Tch… Real fine hobbies you got there Ortho, tying people by the ankle to cages so they’re stuck in coolant.
JAMIL: I’ll use magic to sever the rope.
ORTHO: Hmmm, are you sure it’ll be that easy? What if it’s not a normal rope?
LEONA: Say what?
ORTHO: That’s one of the cables controlling everything in this asylum. Cut that cable and ALL the cages in here will pop open! ORTHO: The only way to rescue the researcher without that happening is to unlock the shackle around his ankle! ORTHO: And those cages are real heavy- the longer you wait, the deeper he sinks. Heehee! ORTHO: Can you find the key before the researcher drowns? ORTHO: Best of luck to you!
RESEARCHER: Save me!! My foot’s tied to this cage-!
JAMIL: At this rate he’s going to drown!
LEONA: Tch… Looks like for this “trial” we’ve gotta save that researcher if we wanna keep going.
JAMIL: … Clearly this isn’t the place or time to be bickering with one another.
LEONA: Got that right. Let’s hurry up and find that key. LEONA: Hey you, where’d Ortho hide the key?
RESEARCHER: Sa- save meeee!! I don’t want- to drown-!!!
JAMIL: He’s panicking too much to hear us. We’re better off breaking into those cages ourselves.
EP 6-66-11
S.T.Y.X. Tartarus- Aylum
PTM- 3187
Rattle rattle!
LEONA: Looks like we’ve found ourselves an extra lively Phantom.
JAMIL: Indeed. It may burst out as soon as we open the door. JAMIL: Perhaps we should distance ourselves from the cage before using any magic. Leona, you should step back as well- JAMIL: Le- Leona!?
LEONA: Quit dawdling, here it comes!
Battle
Victory!
LEONA: … No key, huh. What a waste of time.
JAMIL: What were you thinking?
LEONA: Hmmm? Is there perhaps something bothering you?
JAMIL: The one to open the cage should have been me, if you’d read the room instead of blasting the cage from behind me.
LEONA: Oh, were you looking forward to opening the cage that much? So sorry for stealing your fun. LEONA: And here I thought you were getting cold feet, backing up like that.
JAMIL: Absolutely not! I was moving back in case the Phantom were to attack straight away-
LEONA: I got it, I got it. Now drop it so we can move on to the next cage.
PTM- 2510
JAMIL: I’ll open this cage next. JAMIL: (Or so I say, but it’s dangerous to keep using magic so carelessly.) JAMIL: (I’d rather not run out of energy before we get to our goal. Best to hold back any way I can.) JAMIL: Le- Leona!? Please don’t blast open the cage out of nowhere!
LEONA: You sit there and watch. I’ll have this cleaned up in a heartbeat.
JAMIL: Huh? Leona!? Hold up! JAMIL: Who do you think I chose to be the one to open the cage for!? Dammit, why does he keep doing everything out of nowhere-!
Battle
Victory!
LEONA: … No key here.
JAMIL: Unfortunately. JAMIL: About earlier…
LEONA: Earlier? … Oh, that. LEONA: Why’d you join in after I told you to sit back and watch?
JAMIL: As if I could listen to that when we have no idea what could happen here! JAMIL: How many times must I ask you to not go off and do things by yourself? JAMIL: Hahhh… This is wearing me out. Please, please don’t do that again.
PTM- 5044
LEONA: Next up’s this one.
JAMIL: All right. I’m ready to open it. Hah! JAMIL: … Nothing’s coming out. Is this cage empty? JAMIL: I’ll take a closer look, and you can-
LEONA: Stay back, you idiot!
???: Gugyaaaahhhh!
JAMIL: Ngh-!!
LEONA: Damn, you’re such a handful.
JAMIL: Leona…!
LEONA: Save the thanks for later!
Battle
Victory!
LEONA: This one’s got nothing.
JAMIL: … Thank you for helping me. JAMIL: I’ll be sure to return the favor as soon as possible.
LEONA: Too bad I’m not expecting much. C’mon, let’s head for the next one.
JAMIL: Ghh… JAMIL: … All this trouble doesn’t change the fact that working together with Leona has worked well for me. JAMIL: For now I need to be patient.
PTM- 8812
LEONA: Think it’s this cage?
RESEARCHER: Whatever it takes- I don’t care- please- save meeee!!
LEONA: This guy’s freaking out so bad he’s not hearing a word we say.
JAMIL: He’s actually making it harder to help him. This just goes to show how important it is to retain one’s calm at all times. JAMIL: … Whether or not there’s a key in there, the Phantom in that cage has definitely woken up.
LEONA: Time to take it out and see if it’s got a key.
Battle
Victory!
Clink!
JAMIL: There’s the key! This was the right cage after all. Now to free the S.T.Y.X. employee.
RESEARCHER: Hurry… ugh… I can’t- breathe…!
JAMIL: Please calm down and stop flailing about! I’m trying to help you!
LEONA: Hold on a sec. LEONA: You. Stand up.
RESEARCHER: Huh? Stand?
EVERYONE: ……
JAMIL: For the love of- JAMIL: The coolant barely reaches your chest!
RESEARCHER: I guess I was freaking out so much I never noticed…
LEONA: Is everyone here at S.T.Y.X. a complete idiot?
RESEARCHER: Urk… now I’m being mocked by students… RESEARCHER: I got too scared to think straight, sorry.
LEONA: If you’ve got time to get depressed you’ve got time to hand over any password or ID card we can use to keep going down. LEONA: You’ve work here, you’ve got one, right
RESEARCHER: Yeah. I’ll be in your way if I come with, but I want to say- RESEARCHER: Please, save this Isle of Woe- no, save the world!
JAMIL: I can’t make any promises, but we’ll do everything we can.

S.T.Y.X. Tartarus- Emergency Exit
JAMIL: … The sixth level, at last. According to the map, the “Thunder Spear” should be in a storeroom on this floor.
LEONA: Hey.
JAMIL: What now? More complaints?
LEONA: No. LEONA: It’s way too damn cold.
JAMIL: Huh? Yes, it’s cold, but it’s been cold for a while now.
LEONA: That’s from the chill coming from below. I’m talking about the breeze that’s been getting stronger the past few minutes. … Something’s coming.
JAMIL: “Something?” JAMIL: Whoa!? Now it’s gusting!? JAMIL: It’s like a blizzard, ice in the wind and all!
Rooooooaaaarrrrrr…
LEONA: Ngh, the wind just keeps getting worse. Not to mention that wail… LEONA: !! Here it comes!!

S.T.Y.X. Tartarus- Emergency Exit
JAMIL: It’s ridiculously strong! Could this be the “Phantom Titan Crystal?”
TITAN: JUUUUPITEEEEERRR! WHEEEERE ARE YOUUUU!? LET ME FREEEEEZE YOUUUU!!
LEONA: Tch, this is going nowhere. We’re backing off and regrouping! LEONA: King’s Roar!
JAMIL: A- amazing… the ice is all turning to sand!
LEONA: Yeah, yeah, I’m amazing, but now’s not the time to stop and stare! LEONA: This way!
JAMIL: R- right!
S.T.Y.X. Tartarus- Storeroom
LEONA: We made it to the storeroom, at least. LEONA: This facility’s so fancy I’d like to think they built all the doors sturdy enough to handle that thing, but…
TITAN: COOOOME OUUUUT!!
JAMIL: Ice is forming over the door, massive as it is! At this rate it’s only a matter of time before the Titan breaks it down and forces its way in here!
LEONA: We’ve got no chance facing a monster like that head on without any help. LEONA: I’ll hold it off for the moment- you better hurry and find that Thunder Spear!
JAMIL: All right! JAMIL: Shelf B-16… there it is! JAMIL: Wait, this is supposed to be a spear!? It’s longer than I am tall! JAMIL: How are we even supposed to use something this big? JAMIL: No, hold on, we should be able to if we activate the control system. Insert the start-up key here, like the staff members said…
SYSTEM: Code: Titanomachy. Authorizing Level A Emergency Plan. SYSTEM: Magic battery charging complete. Power level 100%. SYSTEM: Activating Thunder Spear. SYSTEM: To activate, touch the panel to register the user.
JAMIL: Touch… the panel- JAMIL: … No, wait. If I register myself as the user… JAMIL: There’s no way I’d be able to control this spear’s crazy amount of power.
SYSTEM: To activate, touch the panel to register the user. SYSTEM: To activate, touch the panel to register the user.
JAMIL: … Darn it all! I’d better call over Leona!
TITAN: FREEZE… FREEZE IT ALLLLL…!! GRAAAHHHH!!
LEONA: Quit whining, you damn bedhead!
JAMIL: I found the Thunder Spear!
LEONA: Took you long enough to get back here. LEONA: Lead the way. I’ll cover your back, so head for that Thunder Spear and don’t turn around!
JAMIL: R- right! JAMIL: Over there, that glowing thing’s the Thunder Spear!
SYSTEM: To activate, touch the panel to register the user. To activate, touch the panel to register the user.
LEONA: Heh, looks like you waited like a good boy this time.
JAMIL: … Well, all you told me to do was “find that Thunder Spear.”
LEONA: Good.
SYSTEM: To activate, touch the panel to register the user. To activate, touch the panel to register the user.
LEONA: I got it, I got it, quit kicking up a ruckus like a rhinoceros. LEONA: So all I gotta do is touch this panel…
SYSTEM: User registration complete. Safety lock released. Activating support mode.
LEONA: This thing’s so heavy and crammed with magic I can barely levitate it! LEONA: Why’d they have to make this thing such a handful? LEONA: Are you telling me those S.T.Y.X. lot can lift this thing like a feather?
JAMIL: (Even Leona’s having a tough time with it! If I had registered myself instead of leading him to it…)
TITAN: GRAAHHHHHH!! WHEEEEERE AAAARE YOUUUUUU!!!
LEONA: … It’s almost here. LEONA: Listen up. We’re gonna break that thing’s nonexistant nose right off its face. LEONA: Problem is, this loose cannon’s gonna take a minute to aim. I need you to smack that Titan with magic and buy me some time.
JAMIL: All right!

S.T.Y.X. Tower 2- Storeroom
TITAN: RAAAAAGHHHH!!
JAMIL: All right! The Titan fell back into the pit of Tartarus!
LEONA: Ughh… talk about an unpleasant opponent. Now my tail’s all frosted.
SYSTEM: Thunder Spear battery level low. Remaining power: 10%. SYSTEM: Please return to charging station.
LEONA: What, it’s down already?
JAMIL: Considering how much power its one shot had, it’s not surprising.
LEONA: Tch, what a pain. Best plan’s to charge it, I guess- there’s no telling what we’ll run into after this. LEONA: Let’s go. LEONA: Three hours to full charge. LEONA: Sounds good to me. This place is stocked with emergency rations somewhere, so let’s rest here for now.
JAMIL: … Understood.
EP 6-66-15
S.T.Y.X. Tower 2- Storeroom
Three hours later…
SYSTEM: Thunder Spear charging complete. All systems functioning normally.
JAMIL: Leona, the Thunder Spear’s finished charging. JAMIL: … Hm? Leona?
LEONA: ZZZZZ…
JAMIL: He’s asleep!? Seriously!? At a time like this!? JAMIL: Leona, please wake up!
LEONA: … Fwaahhhh… Is it done charging?
JAMIL: It is. I’ve collected some food and first aid supplies from around the storeroom; we can leave anytime.
LEONA: … Hey. Did you not hear me say “let’s rest here?”
JAMIL: What if we run into another enemy like that thing? We can’t let our guards down. JAMIL: The next place we can resupply is two levels down at the eighth level. If we’re not careful we won’t make it that far-
LEONA: Ahhh sure, fine, I get it. If that’s how you wanna do things, go right ahead. LEONA: Let’s just get going.

This is my 2nd time I'm sending a request I'm sorry this'll be my last ansjsj
Can you do a Hanji x reader where the reader and Hanji are best friends in the scouts and the reader has feelings for Hanji so they tend to act a little flirty? But the reader is actually Levi's sister and Levi finds it so obvious how much the reader loves Hanji so he just teases for her it? Hanji then overhears the reader talking about her feelings and boom! Confession! ^^
“Confessions,” Hange x Reader
Girrrrl send as many requests as you like, I don’t mind at allllllllll. Hanji Hanji, I love her and I know I spell it how it is in the dub its a habit. my apologiesssssss.
Summary: Levi’s younger sister has a crush on Hange and he finds it real obvious, teasing you until you end up confessing.
Warnings: none
.
.
.
Growing up wasnt easy. You and Levi were left to starve and then trained to be full on machines, learning how to fight and defend before you were even ten years old.
Levi had tried his best to protect you, he still does to this day as the both of you worked in the scout regiment and were each made Captains.
The more time went on and days were spent all together in the room, drinking and eating. You found yourself having a big crush on Hange, you liked her confidence and the way she’s driven to the Titans and wanting to learn about them. It was crazy but you liked it.
You would even admit that you were in love with her. You would spend your days off with her, learning about her discoveries, her theories and even spent time with her when she had caught two Titans and did research on them up close.
The way she was in love with her work, the way she dedicated herself to the two Titans and was absolutely fascinated with them, even if it almost killed her on numerous occasions- it just all made you fall in love with her more.
You were in deep.
It wasn’t long till Levi had caught on, he knew you better than anyone and the way you stared at her from across the room or the way you listened to every word she said as she rambled on about pointless stuff that you knew nothing about.
He knew you had a big crush on her and he teased you about it for months on end. He made sure to be the annoying big brother that bullies his sister with jokes about how you’re soft for her, how you practically drool over her when she speaks to you.
“Just shut up, Levi.” You groaned, sitting inside his office as he laughed, shooting more playful jokes your way.
It had made you grow frustrated with your brother, he was a pain in the ass to deal with and now that he knew that you liked your fellow comrade, he couldn’t help but bug you about it.
It was entertaining to him, this was the only time he got a good laugh during the awful times of working and risking your lives to protect others.
“C’mon, it’s funny.” He rolled his eyes at your attitude but laughed about it shortly afterwards.
“It’s only funny to you, dumb ass. Why don’t you stop being a lonely old man and go find someone.” You said sarcastically, making his eyebrows furrow and shoot you a dirty look.
“I don’t need anyone. All I need is myself and you, remember that.” He simply said but you knew why he was never interested in finding someone for himself.
Levi holds up this giant wall that is three times bigger than him. He acts cold, he acts like he isn’t phased by anything but deep down, everything hits him like bricks. He convinced himself that being alone was a better option as a Scout instead of setting himself up for heartbreak and risk loving someone just to lose them to Titans.
He convinced himself that nothing was more important than family. Than you, as his little sister. He didn’t need anything else but you, losing you would be losing himself entirely.
“I’m grown, I can watch myself.” You scoffed, crossing your arms over your chest and he shrugged his shoulders.
“Eh, you still remind me of the five year who cried all the time.. You still cry all the time.” He joked, making you roll your eyes.
“So, are you going to tell Hange or should I?” Levi spoke up again, bringing the topic right back on the table and you groaned dramatically.
You didn’t want to talk about it any longer, the fact that a simple crush was being held over your head was annoying enough especially it being done by Levi. You wanted to punch him in the face and you were tempted to do it at this very moment.
You knew you couldn’t bring yourself to tell Hange your feelings, in the back of your head you were convinced she didn’t go in that direction, that she didn’t like women but some times it was questionable but the paranoia had lingered over you which prevented you from even thinking about telling her.
While you argued with your brother, Hange had walked down the hallway to actually look for you to help her with some theories she had in mind. She wanted to run them by you because you were the only person that showed interest and actually gave her good advice.
As she walked by Levi’s office, she overheard your voice and stopped in her tracks when her name was brought up in the conversation.
“Are you going to tell Hange or should I?”
She raised her eyebrow, tell her what? She was confused as she stood by the door, her ear up to the crack to listen to more. She hated to be nosey but she couldn’t help it when she was brought up.
“How am I supposed to tell her? It’s not as easy as you make it sound, Levi. This could either ruin our friendship or not.” You hated this, you hated the topic and you wanted to move on.
But Levi being the annoying asshole he was, he edged on and on just to watch the pure irritation on your face just for his amusement.
“C’mon, it’s not that hard. Just open your mouth up and speak.” He smirked, resting his arms on the desk as he leaned forward.
“You’re just a scary chicken.” He teased, making Hange almost giggle under her breath at the childish nickname he gave you.
But the more she stood there, the more she was intrigued with the conversation and wanting to listen to more. She had glanced down each side of the hallway to make sure no one was near or walking down to blow her cover as she continued the sneaky act.
“God, you’re so irritating. It’s not that easy for me to walk up to her and say I’m in love with you. Keep teasing me about it and I’ll kick your short ass.” You threatened him, making his laugh only grow louder.
Her eyes widen at the confession you let out. You were in love with her? She couldn’t process it or think clearly but it had definitely made her heart pound inside her chest and adrenaline run through her veins.
As you got up from the other side of the desk, telling your brother that you were leaving as he continued to giggle like a school girl. Once she heard your footsteps come closer to the door, she had practically ran down the hallway and go around the corner.
She didn’t really know what to do, should she bring this up to you? Should she just get this over with and confront you? She didn’t know and all that thinking she did, she didn’t realize you walking down the hallway in her direction until you startled her by turning the corner.
“Oh shit!” You jumped, making her jump and drop the files she was holding in her hands.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t see you.” You admitted shyly, your cheeks growing hot as you kneeled down to scatter up the files and hand them back to her.
“It’s okay, actually- I was looking for you.” Hange abruptly said then quickly shut her mouth, that’s not what she wanted to say- now the topic was at the front of her mind.
“Oh? What about?”
“Uh, I had some theories but first I kind of wanted to get something off my chest.” She said, fixing her glasses and met your gaze with a almost worried look that made you become paranoid.
“I didn’t mean to um, listen in but I heard you and Levi talking.” She finished, making your eyes go wide and suddenly your cheeks were as red as a tomato.
“Ahh, um.” You didn’t know what to say, you started to stutter and started to look around the empty hallway to avoid her stare.
This is not what you had in mind about confessing to Hange. You couldn’t help but think if Levi was behind this sick plan, it wouldn’t be surprising if he did- he’s a selfish asshole after all.
As you stood there quietly, Hange had began to worry and clung tighter onto the files in her hands. She didn’t really know what to say and that’s coming from someone who is always talking and rambling about something.
But as she stood in front of you, watching you get all flustered up, it gave her a bit of a confidence boost to lean down and press her lips on yours, catching you by surprise completely.
You weren’t expecting this, your anxiety made you think of the worst in every situation but here she was, kissing your lips and it made your heart skip a beat at the small kiss.
When she pulled back, both of your faces flustered up and red- she had given you a cute smile and gestured you to follow her.
“C’mon, I have some theories to tell you.”
You were confused, thrown back but you followed her back to her office and she noticed how you were still quiet, probably even overthinking the small kiss you two shared.
“I hope you know that me kissing you meant that I like you too.”

Can’t Fight This Feeling -- A Destination Fear One Shot (Alex Schroeder/Reader)
Requested by @gpiggy98 | Also found on AO3
It was the start of the second road trip of the new season. Excitement and a bit of anxiousness filled the RV. Dakota decided to investigate the Bowman Estate in Cuttingsville, Vermont. It is said that the ghost of Jennie Bowman moved a painting off the wall to hit a misbehaving person on the head. The fact that objects are known to move and specifically hit people made the crew being a bit anxious as to what may happen to them since no official paranormal investigation has been done.
You were the most anxious out of the crew. Although you were signed to be a part of the season, a scheduling conflict made it so you could only do the second road trip and not the first. This made the Bowman Estate the first location you have ever investigated with Destination Fear, though you had had a chance to urban investigate a couple times before. You had been close friends with the crew for many years, especially with Alex. Through the years, you started to fall in love with your best friend, yet you never said anything. Why possibly ruin your friendship when feelings can be fleeting and/or unreciprocated?
You and Chelsea went to the front of the RV to see the location while Alex was sitting across from Tanner and Dakota who were at the table.
“Wait, is this it?” Chelsea asks.
“This is it,” Dakota responds with a smirk on his face.
“Dude, this is so cool!” you exclaim, excitement taking the wheel from anxiety for just a moment.
“Wait, let me see!” Tanner proclaims as he bumps in between Chelsea and you causing the three of you to laugh.
“Get out of here, it was our turn in the front to see the location,” Chelsea giggles out while pushing Tanner back to where he was originally seated.
“Fine,” Tanner says in a disappointed tone, causing everyone to chuckle.
The RV quickly comes to a stop. Everyone gets out with equipment in hand and scopes out the location while figuring out a gear room. Once everything is set up, it is time for the investigation.
“For tonight’s investigation, I would like to start us off in small groups. Tanner, Chelsea, and I will be one group while you two will be paired together,” Dakota states with a smirk on his face and a subtle wink at you.
Tanner and Chelsea both had the same type of smirk on their face as Dakota. Your guess is your crush on Alex had not been subtle to them. If that were the case, did that mean that Alex already knew? If he knew, why has he not said anything about it? Maybe he is just as oblivious as a typical guy is. Your nerves were already getting to the better of you knowing that you would be alone with Alex. Normally, everyone would hang out together, so you have not been alone with him since you developed more than platonic feelings.
“Alright, see you guys,” you say, wanting to get this done and over with.
They nod in response before heading the opposite direction.
You were already nervous about the location. Add being alone with your crush and you are an anxious ball of nerves. You kept looking everywhere on the way to and even in the mausoleum but at him, partially because you wanted to see the location and the other part just trying to avoid possible embarrassment.
“Hey, are you alright?” Alex asks you after a while of walking in what must have been silence.
“Uh...yeah. I’m fine,” you respond probably a bit too quickly.
He gives you a knowing look. It does not help that he is your best friend and can tell something is off.
“Really, I’m fine. Just nervous about what we might find,” you reply.
“I think there’s more to it. You’ve seemed kind of distant from me for a bit,” he mentions, a slight hurt expression on his face.
“You’ve done nothing wrong. I’m just stuck in my own head about things right now,” you assure him as best as you can without letting slip that your feelings for him have been consuming your mind since you split off from the others.
“You can tell me what’s wrong. I can and want to help you,” Alex says.
“It’s nothing, don’t worry about it,” you dismiss.
“It’s obviously something if it’s making you overthink and almost nervous,” he states this time with concern in his tone.
“Just forget about it. Let’s focus on exploring this place,” you try dismissing again. You really did not want to talk about this, especially with the one causing your nerves.
“It’ll be easier if we talk about this. Please, tell me what’s wrong and why you’re this nervous. I want to help,” Alex pleads.
“We’re separated from the group and it’s because I have feelings for you, you dingus” you admit.
You quickly cover your mouth after that; your brain-to-mouth filter failing you in a crucial moment. You could feel your cheeks flushing as you stood their embarrassed while Alex just blinked at you wordlessly. Your instincts told you to leave and leave now to avoid any further humiliation.
While patting your pockets you say, “I think I left something behind. Let me just…” before running back the way you came to get out of the situation. You started running through the mausoleum to its exit before running outside in search for the RV. You could hear footsteps running behind you as you went.
Before you got far, you felt a hand grab your wrist and, with the gentlest of tugs, turned you. You were now face to face with Alex.
“Why did you take off running? Also, don’t give me the excuse that you forgot something, I can already tell that that is a lie,” he asks.
“Because I just made a complete fool of myself. We’ve been best friends for years and I had to go and ruin it all because I have feelings for you that obviously are not reciprocated since you just stared at me in silence,” you respond.
He lets out a chuckle before saying, “I like you too, you dingus. Your statement just took me by surprise is all.”
Now you were speechless, only being able to let out an “Oh.”
There were a couple beats of silence before Alex asks, “Is it okay if I kiss you right now?” while turning a slight shade of pink.
Instead of a verbal response, you simply nod your head with a huge smile spreading across your face.
He cups your cheek in his left hand and leans in. You meet him in the middle, both of your eyes closing as you kiss each other. It feels surreal that this is happening. You did not feel the fireworks that all those stories say when you meet “the one,” but it just felt right and what was meant to happen. The kiss was not a simple peck, but it was not a make out session either. It was just the right amount needed, especially since you guys were supposed to be filming a TV show instead of kissing.
Slowly pulling away and opening your eyes, you saw a huge grin on Alex’s face which you were already mimicking.
“Come on, we have a job to do,” you say while bumping into his side.
Alex lets out a chuckle before agreeing with you as you make your way back into the building. While investigating, the two of you did hear some disembodied voices coming from a woman and a man. Happy baby sounds were also heard at one point. Nothing was decipherable, but it was shocking, nonetheless. After some time, the two of you stopped by the gear room, which just so happened to coincide with the others being there.
“So…how’d it go?” Tanner asks while wiggling his eyebrows.
“Oh, you know, the usual paranormal stuff. We heard some disembodied voices. Hopefully the cameras caught them,” you answer, blatantly ignoring the implications Tanner was insinuating.
“And? Anything else?” Dakota asks in a tone suggesting there is more he is not saying.
“And what? Investigating is our priority here,” Alex answers, taking your hint as to not revealing more just to toy with your friends.
Chelsea seemed to cave from the suspense and blurts out, “Well, have the two of you finally realized your feelings for each other or not?”
You and Alex look at each other with mock expressions of surprise. Dakota, Chelsea, and Tanner go wide-eyed, thinking they ruined the possibility before Alex breaks the surprise to start laughing. Shortly after he starts laughing, you join.
“You should see the looks on your faces, holy hell,” you guffaw out, hands on your knees from laughing so hard.
“You guys were not subtle in the slightest in what you were trying to do, you know,” Alex chuckles out.
Your three friends all remained silent while you two took the time to catch your breaths. When you finally stood back up, you give Alex a kiss on the cheek.
While looking at Chelsea, Dakota, and Tanner, you say, “It did end up working though. You could say my brain-to-mouth filter decided to stop fighting this feeling and speak its mind.”
You hear Tanner let out a whoop, which caused everyone to chuckle.
“For once, one of your ideas was actually good,” Alex says to Dakota, which caused the group to laugh again.
“Now this is an interesting start to a new road trip,” Chelsea says with a smile on her face.
“Alright, let’s get back to work,” you say, wanting to explore more of this location.
With a quick nod, the five of you took off into the Bowman House, also known as Laurel Hall. With your 3 best friends and an amazing partner by your side, you knew you could take on anything.

omg friends to lovers modern au with porco ?? soft porco just gets me in my Feels™
two idiots
note: woof woof. you know just the kind of softness i love 😩🤚 coming right up, darling! this turned out to be one of my favorite things i’ve written. i hope you all enjoy!! here’s some modern friends to lovers with porco x gn!reader!
wc: 2,154
modern!porco x gn!reader
warnings: language, porco being a dork.
porco had been your best friend ever since he adopted you in his social circle in high school. your “friends” at the time were pretty shitty and he convinced you to drop them and join his friend group instead. best decision ever because now you had actual friends who lasted beyond school as well as not feeling like shit 24/7 anymore.
you’ve been friends for what felt like forever, and you even got a job at the same little café. currently, you two had the closing shift. that just spells chaos with porco’s silly antics he always pulls. it was a surprise he hasn’t gotten you two fired yet.
so now, with the “open” sign flipped to “closed,” porco takes it upon himself to fuck around and give himself a whipped cream mustache. which is very irresponsible because you could get in so much trouble if the higher ups find out.
you did nothing to stop him, just laughing to the point you were afraid your lungs would give out from the force of your laughter.
“porco, you’ve got to stop doing that, that’s so unsanitary. plus we have twenty minutes to finish and lock up.” you giggled, making your way over to the sink where all the dishes were waiting to be cleaned.
“can’t be fired if we’re not caught,” he sent a playful wink to you “and it’s fun to make you laugh all the time.” you just rolled your eyes at him.
“you’re absolutely no help, you bafoon. go mop the floors or something.”
“fine, mom. whatever you say.” he groaned and licked the whipped cream off his face. however, on his way to grab the mop, he made sure to splash you with the water running from the faucet.
“you dick! you’ll pay for this!” you shout as you cup your hands under the water, gathering as much as you could, before flinging it in his direction.
“see? there you go. now you’re having fun!” he cackled.
“you’re cleaning that up, dipshit.” he nodded frantically, giving you a salute.
“of course, mom. planned on it.” you couldn’t hold back your laugh after seeing the serious look on his face. you smacked him on the arm.
“stop calling me mom, it’s weird.” with a roll of your eyes, you got back to cleaning the dishes, set on getting out of work on time. you knew messing around wouldn’t exactly get you guys in trouble, but if you didn’t clock out and close up in time, you would be reprimanded.
“i would never stop saying something that makes you so annoyed, so no, mom.” he had the biggest shit eating grin on his face as he went about cleaning the floors. you decided to refrain from giving him the satisfaction of your response, instead focusing on your work.
of course, the peaceful silence would only last so long as porco decided to fill it with his idiotic chatter.
“hey, (y/n), do you remember senior year when zeke made you laugh so hard that you pissed yourself? that’s what this is reminding me of.” his boisterous laugh bounced around all the walls of the small building as your face flushed.
“you said you would never bring that up again! we agreed on that. how would you like if i brought up you pissing the bed when you were a sophomore in high school? you were like fifteen or sixteen and you still peed the bed.” now it was your turn to laugh at him.
“uncool! that was a one time thing! and i chugged a whole bottle of water before bed, okay? not my fault.” now it was his turn to go completely red in the face, the tips of his ears also tinted red. you mocked him, repeating his last sentence under your breath in a dumb voice.
he scoffed at you and then everything was silent again, minus the running water and clanking of dishes. your thoughts kind of took over as you mindlessly worked. you two had been friends for what feels like half of your life, and for a majority of that time, you had a crush on him as well. you still do.
whenever you guys had free time, you would spend it together, as best friends do. there was no doubt that you would catch feelings eventually. sometimes you wish you could do something about it, but you’re content just being his best friend instead of ruining what you have to take a chance on a relationship that probably wouldn’t happen.
porco just had this dorky, boyish charm to him that drew you in immediately. it seemed to attract all kinds of others, too, because he had numerous partners growing up. his relationships never lasted too long though, earning him the title of “heartbreaker.” another reason you didn’t wanna try your luck. you didn’t know if he would break up with you after a month of being together.
being totally absorbed by your thoughts, you hadn’t noticed porco trying to get your attention.
“hellooo? earth to (y/n)?” he waved a hand in front of your face. you startled and ended up splashing water on both of you.
“huh? sorry, i spaced out.” you said sheepishly, turning off the running water. you had finished your task and noticed porco had as well.
“i’ve finished mopping and wiping tables down and shit. you wanna clock out if that’s all?”
“oh, uh, yeah. i think we’ve already gotten to everything. i already sorted out everything in the back so we should be okay. lemme finish up here.” you made sure the sink was cleaned up and porco got to putting the rest of the cleaning supplies away, and worked on shutting the lights off. you snagged your bag from the back and met up with him by the door.
“you need a ride home?” he inquired as you locked the doors and headed out. that got you to stop, remembering that the last bus was around an hour ago, so that left you with walking home as your only option. luckily for you though, porco was always paying attention to your habits, knowing that you wouldn’t have a way home.
“yeah, actually, that would be great. i’m too tired to walk home tonight.” you smiled at him appreciatively, earning a smile back. climbing into his car, you stole the aux cord immediately. you always got control of the tunes when he was driving you somewhere.
you both got to making idle prattle as you scrolled through your playlists to find something to play. you settled on one of your favorite songs, humming along here and there as he drove.
as you neared your apartment, he turned down the music to a low volume and spoke up.
“so, i’ve wanted to talk to you about something for a while and i feel like now is a good a time as any.” you gave an agreeing ‘hm,’ prompting him to continue.
“i uh, think you’re really cool and all, and i’ve kind of sort of had a crush on you since high school which i know is like a long time or whatever, but i got tired of just keeping it to myself for so long and i just wanted to tell you.” you were shocked to say the least. your heart rate picked up, filled with hope and anticipation.
he pulled into your apartment complex and put the car in park before turning to you and continuing to speak.
“i don’t expect it to go anywhere, you don’t even have to feel the same but, i just wanted to kinda lay out my feelings, maybe see if you feel the same?” he phrased it as more of a question. when he began speaking, he was pretty confident, but that slowly wore down the more he said until it was just his nerves left. insecurities rubbing together and creating a spark.
“of course, you don’t have to feel the same. that would be silly to expect that from you. we’re best friends and we always have been. actually, the more i think, that was really stupid to say because you like see me as a brother and stuff and like incest is gross so honestly you ca-” you had to cut him off, as cute as his rambling was, you didn’t want him to start overthinking. a sad porco is a not fun porco.
“shut up and kiss me, dumbass.” you shot out before your nerves got to you.
“-n ignore- what?” he looked at you incredulously, not expecting you to say anything like that. hey, same porco.
“i said kiss me, or i’ll kiss you first, then how would you feel? you’re the one confessing to me.” and the confidence you have just keeps building up. you honestly had no idea what was getting into you anymore, but knowing that your long time crush has liked you back for around the same amount of time you liked him? score.
“oh, yeah i’ll kiss you.” and with that, he leaned over the console and crashed your lips together. your heart was dancing in your chest, crashing into your ribs. you almost worried that he could hear it, but you got lost in the kiss, forgetting and not bothering to care.
his hands came up to cradle your jaw, pulling your face impossibly closer to him as he kissed you even deeper than before. you pulled away, deciding to give him more of a response than telling him to just kiss you.
“i’ve liked you just as long, pock. i never thought you would ever feel the same, i mean, you always dated so many people and stuff so i just assumed that you weren’t interested in me.” you confessed, flushing slightly.
“yeah, but, you know how long each of those lasted. it was because of you. they took up time i wanted to spend with you and i only really wanted you. i was just trying to get over my feelings. i never knew i could have this with you.” he began stroking your cheek with one of his thumbs, the other hand searching for yours to interlock your fingers together.
“i guess this car just has two idiots looking into each other’s eyes then, huh?” you laughed, leaning into his hand on your face. “i never thought i could have this with you, either.”
“yeah, i guess we are kind of dumb, then.” he went in for another kiss, giving it his all before pulling away again. “can i take you out? we work the same shifts usually so we’ll have a day off together soon.”
“yeah, i think i’d like that a lot.” you couldn’t help yourself, you had to kiss him again. now that you could do that, you don’t think you’ll stop anytime soon. you just felt so right when you kissed him, the entire world fell away leaving the two of you melded together, just sharing how much you felt for the other.
pulling away from the kiss, porco pulled you into a crushing hug. he didn’t want to let you go, but realized he probably should. you’d been sitting in his car for a few minutes and he knew you needed your rest. it had been a long day.
“okay, now get out of my car please.” he smiled at you lovingly.
“so sweet, so romantic, my little pock.” he groaned but let out a snort soon after.
“ugh, you ruined the moment.” he rolled his eyes and you stared at him, bewildered.
“me? you’re the one kicking me out of your car.” he laughed at this.
“only because i know you’ll complain if you don’t get enough sleep. i’ll see you at work tomorrow though, babe, don’t worry,” he paused for a second, “i can call you that, right?”
“yeah, and you better keep calling me that or i’ll tell everyone at work about your whipped cream escapades.” he gasped, mocking offense.
“you wouldn’t dare.” his eyes narrowed at you. you let out a loud laugh, pressing a kiss to his cheek.
“oh, i would. try me.” he rolled his eyes and gave you a kiss on your nose.
“yeah, yeah, i believe you. but you really should get going. i promise i’ll keep calling you babe, and that i’ll see you tomorrow. babe.” you smiled and reached out to give his hand a squeeze.
“yeah, i’ll see you tomorrow. bye, pock.” and with that you made your way out of his car, giving him a wave and blowing him a kiss before you turned to head inside. he pretended to grab your kiss and pressed it to his lips before waving back.
you giggled to yourself giddily as you walked into the building, not believing the events that unfolded today, or happy they made you. yeah, today was a good day.

Not Your Aunt
Chapter 7: Huey [ao3 link]
It’d been two days since her chat with Dewey and Goldie found herself still in Scrooge’s home. Normally she would’ve left the morning after her little visit, but he’d been so busy with all of his family’s craziness that they hadn’t really had a chance to talk yet. Donald had apparently just left on a trip with his girlfriend and some clone children and everyone was adjusting to all the news and everything they’d been through.
So Goldie figured she would just...wait around. She’d informed the necessary people that she was alive, shockingly, after being missing for a few weeks, so she could take a few more days to herself. And it wasn’t like Scrooge didn’t know she was there; she’d still spent both nights in his bed, but he’d been falling asleep pretty quickly and getting up early and this whole situation they were in felt disturbingly domestic. She’d probably need to leave sooner or later, before anyone started to think she was moving in.
At that particular moment, Goldie was situated on the living room couch, wearing a tank top and sweatpants and flipping through the channels on the TV without much thought. Scrooge was at another meeting at the Money Bin and if she didn’t know any better she’d almost think he was avoiding her with all of his late night meetings. Actually, she didn’t really know better, since this was kind of a new situation for them, but...well...what was she supposed to do about it? Go with him? That sounded terribly boring.
A home redecorating show she liked came on and Goldie decided to forget everything else and just sit back and try to enjoy it. Overthinking things with Scrooge never worked out well for her. It was one of many reasons why after over a hundred years, she felt out of place just sitting in his home without him.
The pitter patter of tiny feet coming her way didn’t ease that feeling at all, either.
She glanced to the right as the other triplet - Huey, she was confident she had that right - picked himself up and plopped himself on the couch next to her. She’d never had a single conversation with this child, but she’d stolen from him and knew he kept a ridiculous number of things hidden under his tiny little hat. It was fascinating. But otherwise she didn’t know much about him or why he would be attempting to interact with her.
“I’d like to go over some scheduling issues,” he said suddenly, pulling a notebook and a pen out from under his hat.
Goldie glanced around the room briefly and then back at him. “...with me?”
“Yes,” Huey responded matter-of-factly. “If you’re going to be staying here for a while or living here or whatever’s happening with you, ideally I’d love to add you to the shared family calendar.”
“...what?”
“...but assuming you’re just here for a few days and then coming and going at your leisure, just knowing ahead of time when you and Uncle Scrooge are having your date nights would be perfect.” He took notes while he was talking, as if Goldie had given him even a single answer. “I like to know where he is in case we need him for anything. I’m sure you understand.”
“I, uh…” Goldie took a moment to go over everything he said and quickly shook her head. “Your uncle and I do not have ‘date nights’.”
“Well maybe not this time around since he’s been so busy, but isn’t that the plan?” Huey asked genuinely, still taking notes on who-knew-what. “Once he’s free I assume you’ll get dinner and have a talk about your relationship and our family. And other adult date stuff.”
Goldie responded to that with the most neutral, unemotional stare that Huey had ever received. She took the remote and muted the television before turning her whole body towards the nosy child next to her, lifting her feet up onto the couch. “And why exactly do you assume that?”
Huey tilted his head at her. “Oh...sorry, isn’t that right? Dewey said you’d been wandering around waiting to talk to Uncle Scrooge so that’s just the conclusion I drew. Plus you’re...y’know, still here even though he’s not. And you’re not stealing anything.”
“I have other hobbies.”
He pointed to the TV with his pen. “Like the Property Brothers?”
Goldie glanced at the screen and then back at the kid. “Even if, hypothetically, you were right about all of that, I am absolutely not ever joining your family calendar.”
Huey shook his head. “I don’t know why you’d say that like it’s a bad thing. Don’t you want to be organized?”
“I’m plenty organized by myself.”
“But if you were synced with us, then you’d know when Uncle Scrooge or Louie is available to spend time with.”
Goldie paused for a moment and stared at him. She’d barely spoken to her favorite of Della’s kids since arriving at the house and having him brought up felt like some kind of dig. She wasn’t sure how to respond to it without getting defensive and she wasn’t even sure what she’d be getting defensive about. “...I prefer the element of surprise. Keeps the boys on their toes.”
Huey shook his head and shrugged. “So how long are you staying here? Can I at least know that?”
“I’m not really sure,” Goldie answered, leaning fully against the back of the couch. It was pretty comfy. “Not too long. I’ve got other places to be.”
“...extremely vague and unhelpful,” Huey mumbled, jotting something down in his notebook. “You and Uncle Scrooge are quite the pair.”
Goldie only responded to that with a short hum, grabbing the remote to get back to her show.
“Can I ask you something else?”
She sighed and put the remote back down. “It’s not like I can stop you.”
Huey turned his body fully towards her, one leg up on the couch and one still dangling. “Well...if I’m making you really uncomfortable or anything, I can stop.”
Goldie raised an eyebrow at him, surprised by the suggestion, but quickly waved it off. “What’s your question?”
“Are you planning on marrying Uncle Scrooge?”
If she’d been drinking anything, she would’ve spit it out at that moment. Goldie could say with absolute certainty that she did not see that question coming. “What could I have possibly said to make you think that?”
“Not you,” Huey said earnestly. “I just noticed that everyone seems to call you Aunt Goldie and I remember in one of Uncle Scrooge’s journals he wrote about marriage when he wrote about you so I assumed you two have had a conversation about it at least once or twice. Right?”
Goldie’s eyes widened and she felt heat rising in her chest that she couldn’t explain away as simple heartburn. She hoped her face wasn’t red to match, because this kid was clearly observant and blunt and she didn’t need the whole family thinking she wanted to get married and move in. “I, uh…” Goldie cleared her throat awkwardly. “...no, it’s not something we’ve really talked about.”
Huey looked at her in confusion. “Not really or not at all?”
She grimaced and sighed and moved her hands around her face as she tried to put her thoughts together. “It’s not...I mean, it’s not never come up, it’s just...it’s complicated. It’d be hard to explain.”
“Try me.”
Goldie frowned and barely stopped herself from glaring at him. “...y’know what, if your uncle is the one writing Goldie McDuck in little hearts all over his workbooks, maybe you should talk to him about it, hm?”
Huey blinked up at her. “I guess I can do that. He’s just always very secretive when it comes to you.”
That got her attention a little more than it should’ve. Goldie sighed internally and didn’t bother trying to stop herself. “...what do you mean by that?”
“Well, like…” Huey moved so both of his legs were dangling again and he could swing them around. “I love romance a lot. I love to read about it and watch romantic movies...my friend Fenton and his girlfriend Gandra are so sweet together and Uncle Donald and his girlfriend are also really sweet together and I really love that for both of them. But then you and Uncle Scrooge seem like you’re happy sometimes but then when I ask him about you he gets all grumbly and doesn’t answer my questions, so that’s not a good sign. But I’m really curious about it because I know there’s all different types of romance out there and I don’t even know how the two of you met.”
Goldie hummed quietly and stared at the wall over the TV, considering her response. She definitely wouldn’t describe her and Scrooge’s relationship as ‘sweet,’ but she’d never tried to sum it up into one word before. “...the way we met is also very...complicated.”
“It seems like everything about you two is complicated.”
“That’s putting it lightly,” she said with a short, quiet laugh. “I do love your uncle, but it’s just-...!”
Huey gasped, and Goldie froze at the realization of what she’d just said. She stared directly at Huey who looked more excited than he’d been for any of the rest of their conversation. He was suddenly fully engaged thanks to her accidental use of the l-word. She glanced away from him and hoped she could stumble over that, but she’d paused for too long for them to simply move past it.
It wasn’t like she’d never said it before, but absolutely never to someone in his family. That would be...too much.
“You do?!” Huey asked - his notepad down and leaning towards her and putting his hands on his cheeks. “Does Uncle Scrooge know? Has he said it too? That’s so romantic!”
Goldie groaned and looked back at the TV, only to see the couple fixing up their house snuggling on the camera. “I mean, look. We’ve been...well, it’s been over a hundred years, so yeah these things are bound to be said at some point-”
Huey let out a tiny, adorable little squeal that Goldie refused to find endearing.
“Alright, I’ve changed my mind!” Huey announced, grabbing his pen and notepad again. “I’m completely fine to call you Aunt Goldie!”
“Wait, what?” Goldie stared at him, feeling very confused like she’d missed a whole big part of their conversation. “You know we’re still not getting married, right?”
“Well, Aunt Goldie,” Huey said with a smirk. “I now know that you’re mutually in love and probably have been for a very long time, so whether you want to be or not, that means you’re part of the family!”
She sighed and lightly scratched her neck.
“Do you have any other family?”
Goldie looked surprised at the sudden question, not expecting this child to suddenly change conversation topics like his brother. “...no, I don’t.”
“Oh,” Huey responded, looking a little sad. “Did they...I mean, you’re as old as Uncle Scrooge, right? So they’re...uh…”
“Dead, yeah,” Goldie said with a shrug.
“I’m sorry!” Huey looked down at his hands. “I shouldn’t have asked.”
She watched him look like he was about to go into some shame spiral and Goldie quickly reached out a hand and plopped it on his head. “Don’t worry about it, it was a long time ago. And we were never close to begin with,” she added with another shrug.
Huey glanced back up at her, blushing a bit from the unexpected physical affection. “Does that mean you never introduced them to Uncle Scrooge?”
Goldie couldn’t stop herself and let out a short laugh, moving her hand from Huey’s head to cover her beak. “Sorry, sorry,” she mumbled as she collected herself. “No, God no, absolutely not.”
He moved his hat back to the position he preferred it in. “Have you met Uncle Scrooge’s parents?”
“Ah...sort of-” Goldie started, but suddenly she froze. She thought about his line of questioning for a second before turning to glare at Huey completely. “What are you writing?”
Huey looked up from his notebook and let out a small chirp as he noticed Goldie’s expression. “Um...I’m just taking notes…”
“Taking notes about what?” Goldie asked as she reached out and grabbed the notebook away from him. Huey struggled to grab it back but Goldie held him down with her other hand.
She scanned over the open page and saw that he’d written notes on all the information she’d given him (about herself, about her and Scrooge’s relationship) and her tone of voice and expression when talking about them. She flipped to another page to see similar notes and rolled her eyes before throwing the notepad back at Huey.
Huey caught it and did his best to avoid her gaze.
“Should I even ask?”
He shoved the notepad and pen under his hat again and rubbed the back of his neck. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to upset you.”
Goldie pinched the bridge of her beak. “I’m not upset, I’m just confused. Did Scrooge tell you to come talk to me?”
“Huh?” Huey mirrored her confusion. “No, of course not! It was nothing like that!”
“Then…?”
He sighed awkwardly. “Dewey said he got an interview with you and I didn’t believe him and then we got into an argument about it and he said he had the best interviewing skills in the family, but I’m the one with the Interviewing Badge which I’ve had for several years so I wanted to...prove him wrong, I guess.” Huey covered his eyes with his hands and sighed. “Ugh, this is so stupid. I’m really sorry.”
Goldie raised an eyebrow and reached over to tug his hands away from his eyes. “Kid, it’s fine. I can always understand the urge to prove you’re better than someone else,” she said with a smirk.
Huey looked at her for a few moments before smiling. “So it’s okay if I show this to Dewey?”
She glanced at his hat and then back down at his eyes, which were sparkling and genuine and he was just a very cute kid and Goldie hated how that seemed to be something that affected her these days. She held back a sigh and let go of his arms. “Yeah, it’s fine. It’s not like I said anything that’s a secret.”
“Thank you, Aunt Goldie!” Huey said happily right before he jumped forward and wrapped his arms around her neck.
Goldie let out a surprised OOF! and didn’t hug back, just stared off towards the wall on the other side of the room.
Huey moved back away from her and kept smiling. “Louie’s right, you’re a lot nicer than Uncle Scrooge says you are!” he said as he hopped off the couch. “Thanks for talking to me! I hope you didn’t miss anything important on your show.”
“...nothing important ever happens on this show,” Goldie mumbled as Huey waddled away - probably towards the boys’ shared bedroom. She frowned and tried to will away the blush on her cheeks from the light physical affection. It was disturbing to her how much a little hand-hold or a hug made her feel like she had butterflies in her stomach. It was more than disturbing! She was practically going soft.
She sighed and thought about what Huey said before he left. Maybe she needed to have a chat with Sharpie.

i’d love you to stay but that’s simply insane // JJK (9)
jungkook is an uncontrollable lead vocalist of the campus band, and you’re a goal-oriented top student that’s known his rich and complicated family since childhood. you don’t want anything to do with each other, until each other is exactly what you want to do.
pairing: jeon jungkook x reader
genre: college au
warnings: none, just the frustration of knowing that their plan to fake-date is 100% going to fail
words: 5.2k
chapter nine
That Sunday night, Jungkook picked you up from your dormitory, having no idea that you’d just had a breakdown over what to wear when going to visit the parents of your childhood-best-friend-turned-fake-boyfriend.
You walked out of the building trying to look like you did this every night and Jungkook – who had a breakdown as soon as he saw the way you looked and realized that speaking was most likely going to be a problem for him tonight – tried to act like this wasn’t anything unusual, either.
“You look really good,” he told you politely – like a fake-boyfriend was supposed to – and even opened the passenger door of his car for you.
“You don’t have to do that,” you told him as he helped you inside even though you were perfectly capable of climbing into a car yourself – you’d opted out of heels and a dress out of fear of looking too formal, so your outfit wasn’t an obstacle. “We’re not actually dating.”
“I’m just helping you get into a car,” Jungkook said nonchalantly but he thanked God you didn’t feel how clammy his hands were. “That’s what friends do.”
You snorted. “Right. Okay.”
“Don’t overthink this,” he added before closing your door and jogging around the front of the car to the driver’s side. He climbed in and his eyes settled on you right away. “I… thank you. I didn’t get to say that before.”
You exhaled slowly. “Thank me after. We don’t even know if this is going to work.”
“What do you mean? How could it not?” he asked, truly thinking that his plan was fool-proof. He saw the doubt in your eyes, though, and felt the need to reassure you with a scoff and a lie, “I’m not going to catch feelings and blow the whole thing, if that’s what you’re afraid of.”
“Famous last words,” you told him with a serious look—that was more of a glance, really, because any talk about feelings made your head spin.
Jungkook only snickered at this. “I mean it. I’m very determined.”
“T-that’s not it, though,” you said then. “That’s not the part I’m, uh, worried about.”
“Well, tell me, then,” he encouraged. “Let’s get the doubts out of the way before we do this.”
“What if your parents don’t believe us?” you asked, turning your head towards him but not daring to raise your eyes above his waist. Which wasn’t that good of an idea as you came to learn as soon as your eyes captured the glistening buckle of his belt and his white dress shirt tucked inside of his pants. It’s been a while since you’d seen him dressed in something that wasn’t all-black and ripped.
“Why wouldn’t they?” he asked. “We’ve lied to them before, remember?”
“Yeah but that was, like, lying about not eating all the ice cream in the fridge. Kid stuff,” you said. “Now you’re straight-up going to fool your parents into thinking you’re dating someone.”
His features morphed in offense but, of course, you didn’t see that – his belt looked completely unfazed.
“And that’s so hard to believe, isn’t it?” Jungkook asked.
His voice gave away his emotions and you raised your eyes, somewhat surprised to learn that your words may have been insulting.
“I didn’t mean it like—” you started to say but found it pointless all of a sudden and changed the direction, “well, actually, I don’t know. I don’t know how many relationships you’ve been in for the past however-many-years that it’s been since we’ve last talked.”
You knew very well how many years it’s been and he knew you knew. Calling you out wasn’t something he even considered, however, because there were far more important matters to clear up now.
“Do you want an approximate number,” he asked, his face stoic now, “or should I break it all down in detail?”
You pursed your lips involuntarily, looking away again as your fingers toyed with the edge of your handbag. “Approximate is fine. But that’s not the point—”
“Zero,” he said. “I’ve never dated.”
Your eyes shot to his. “No. That’s—alright, no. Let’s establish something first, okay? Honesty is important if we’re doing this. We’re already going to be lying to our parents so let’s not lie to each other.”
“I’m not lying to you. I’ve seriously never dated.”
You didn’t believe that for a single second. “You’ve never been on one date?”
“Well, I went on that date with your cousin when we were nine,” he said, “but she threw a rock at me after I held her hand, and I don’t remember how it ended. Does that count?”
You snorted, unable to help yourself. “I remember that. Everyone thought she gave you a concussion.”
“Yeah. So, I just decided to stop dating from then on.”
“Be serious,” you warned.
“I am serious,” he insisted. “Well, not about that part, but I really didn’t date. Relationships are a lot of work, you need time for that. Dedication. Maturity.”
“The three things you don’t have.”
“Exactly,” he grinned, his ego too big to allow this little bruise to sting.
“Alright, well, if that’s really true—”
“It is.”
“—then your parents are definitely going to have a hard time believing you’re in a serious relationship. They’ll see right though this,” you said and he looked away, thinking. “I mean, the day before your car accident you were enjoying your single life, and now you’re in a serious relationship all of a sudden?”
“We’ll tell them we’ve been dating since before the accident,” he said. “My mom saw you at the hospital when you came to visit me, so it all adds up.”
You swallowed. “Okay. Let’s say we do that. But still – you’ve never been in a serious relationship before. Why would they believe that you’ve changed your mind? Maybe they’ll think you’re mocking them by bringing some random girl over—”
“You’re not a random girl, though,” he disagreed. “You’re you. That’s why they have to believe us.”
“I don’t—but why does it have to be me? Because we were friends once upon a time?”
“Well… yeah,” Jungkook said, not finding a better way to tell you that, even if you hadn’t been friends before, he wouldn’t have wanted to do this with anyone else. “Because of that.”
Exhaling and releasing some of your doubts, you closed your eyes. “I don’t know…”
He sighed, knowing that your uncertainty was going to suffocate you before the night was over but not knowing how to ease it. The truth was, he wasn’t absolutely sure what awaited you two in the future, but he really did believe that the dinner tonight was going to be a success.
“Look,” he started, “I get where you’re coming from, really. I do. And, if I did this with someone else, then my parents would definitely kick us both to the curb as soon as we showed up at their house. It wouldn’t make sense, like you said,” he paused, accidentally adding a dramatic flair to his speech, “but it’s you. Y-you… you make sense. Even if I’ve never dated before, dating you would make sense.”
If you would have been capable of any rational thought at that moment, you would've probably given in and admitted that he did have a point. The two of you had grown up together, it wouldn’t be so hard to believe that you eventually found your way back to each other and started a relationship. However, you were most positively not in your right mind as every organ inside of you was suddenly shutting down and making it very hard to sit still and not suffocate, so you chose not to say anything.
“Hmm,” you only managed, afraid to open your mouth in case you’d sound like a cat giving birth.
Dating you would make sense. Dating you would make sense. Dating you would
“So, can we go now?” Jungkook asked after checking the time on the dashboard of the car. “We’ve been sitting here for over ten minutes, talking about this. I’m afraid I’ll lose all of my cold appeal if we keep going.”
Startled to hear that, you started to say, “it hasn’t been ten minutes…” only to check the clock and learn that, “oh, wow, it has.”
“Yes,” he said. “Time sure flies when you’re overthinking things.”
You glared at him – earning an endearing grin from him in return – and shook your head.
“Fine, let’s go,” you said then. “You’re the one who suggested clearing all doubts anyway.”
“Well, did it work?” he asked, starting his car.
“Not really,” you admitted. It actually made it worse since your heart seemed to have started to beat in many different places all throughout your body, no longer content with just your chest. “But it will be fine. If your parents don’t immediately kick me out of the house, of course.”
“They won’t. Don’t worry.”
“I’m trying not to,” you said. “But on top of everything else, I’m also naturally anxious when it comes to dinners with adults.”
He gave you a confused look. “You’re an adult.”
“No, but you know what I mean,” you groaned. “Parents are a different kind of adults.”
“Okay,” he chuckled, not trying to mock you because he really did understand. Then, in a yet another attempt to make you feel better, he awarded you with his million-dollar smile that he must have stolen from Prince Charming himself as he said, “if it helps, I’ll hold your hand through it. And I promise the dinner will go by smoothly.”
Jungkook started to keep his promise of holding your hand as soon as you stepped out of the car outside of his parents’ house. You didn’t say anything – choosing to give him a grateful smile instead – and followed him to the front porch.
In the few seconds that it took for his mother to open the door of this larger-than-necessary mansion, your heart dropped to your stomach several times and, if Jungkook hadn’t been squeezing your hand every now and then, you probably would have bolted and returned back to campus. What you were about to do was insane—
But there was no time to reconsider because, all of a sudden, Jungkook’s mother was in front of you, her pleasant smile turning into a surprised one as soon as she spotted you next to her son.
“Oh! Hi!” she said to you, turning to Jungkook with wide eyes, “I wasn’t aware you were going to—”
“Yeah, I wanted us to come together tonight,” Jungkook said and lifted your intertwined hands until it attracted his mother’s attention. She seemed even more surprised now. “I’d say I’d introduce you but you know each other, of course.”
“I—we do, of course. It’s always a pleasure to see you,” his mother pulled you into a hug – while Jungkook kept on holding your hand – never once making it seem like you weren’t welcome here. “Well, come inside, both of you! I was just setting up the table.”
She did make her surprise obvious as her eyes remained glued to your hands but, in her defense, she played her shock off very casually as she ushered you both into the dining room.
“Your father will be down shortly,” she told Jungkook. “I’ll go get the plates.”
“Could I help?” you offered. It came naturally – just like shaking her head came naturally for Jungkook’s mother.
“Not at all, love, you two get comfortable,” she said. “Dinner will be ready in a moment.”
His mother walked back towards the kitchen, leaving you and Jungkook alone but, with an involuntary glance over her shoulder – because she truly couldn’t help her surprise – she still managed witness the two of you continue your act as Jungkook pulled back your chair, helping you into it.
She smiled after catching this brief moment and went to check the oven, hoping that her husband – who was already climbing down the stairs – wasn’t going to make this dinner awkward.
You had to admit, Jungkook’s father didn’t react to you being here in the way you’d expected.
“What a wonderful surprise,” was the first thing he said once he saw you. You stood up to say hello but he was quick to dismiss you with a homely smile, “no, no, sit, sit! We’re about to have dinner.”
It was a funny sort of miracle how neither of his parents seemed to find the courage to outright ask what you were doing here. You had a feeling they didn’t want to offend you by asking – you did help them locate their son when he momentarily went off the grid last Sunday – but you and Jungkook couldn’t build his reputation as a trustworthy son without making the—fake—status of your relationship clear.
“I hope it’s okay that we came together,” Jungkook said when his mother brought the main course to the table.
“Of course!” she said, playing the role of a flawless hostess. “There’s plenty of food for all. And it’s nice to see you two here together again.”
You swallowed with a nervous glance at the boy next to you – who was clutching your hand under the table – but Jungkook never lost his composure. He seemed to have really planned this out. Or maybe he was just good at improvising.
“Yeah, we, um… we’ve been talking for a while now,” he said. Your stomach clenched uncomfortably but you hoped no one noticed you cringe. “Not in the way we used to, though.”
“No?” his mother took a seat next to his father, opposite the two of you. “Well, I suppose that makes sense, it’s been a while, after all. You’re all grown up now.”
Still no question to clarify the state of your relationship. Jungkook could feel himself start to grow agitated. But perhaps he should have seen this coming – his parents’ way of dealing with unexpected problems was pretending that they weren’t problems at all.
“We are grown up,” Jungkook said, throwing his father a sideways glance – which he ignored by not even lifting his head from the still-empty plate in front of him – and then looking back at his mother. “Which is why, I felt like it was important to let you know that we are back together now. Really, together this time.”
That got his father to raise his eyes. “Hm?”
“Yeah, we’re—we caught up with each other and decided to give a relationship a try,” he said, lying with relative ease even under his father’s stern gaze. You sure were glad both of his parents had their eyes glued to him and didn’t catch the unpleasant expression on your face. “We’ve been dating for a while now.”
“That is great news, my love!” his mother exclaimed and you weren’t sure which one of you she was addressing as she looked at you both. You barely had enough time to put on your best smile before, a moment later, her eyes returned to you again, “oh! Were the two of you already together when you came to see him the hospital?”
“I—” you looked at Jungkook for help. “We—”
“Yes,” he said with a warning squeeze of your hand under the table.
“Yes!” you repeated. “Yes, we were. I just—I didn’t think it was the right time to announce our relationship, you know? Since we were at the hospital, and all.”
“Oh, of course, of course,” his mother nodded, understanding. “Well, regardless, I’m very glad you decided to tell us tonight. A toast?”
She lifted her glass of wine – how typical of the Jeon household to turn every surprising turn of events into something to celebrate – and the rest of you followed.
The dinner went by surprisingly smoothly after that – just like Jungkook had told you it would – and, thanks to your past, his parents never made you two go through the story of “how you two met.” Instead, they asked you how you were doing at school and what you planned to do in the future. They seemed impressed to hear about your achievements – and even more impressed to hear about your ambitions – and Jungkook couldn’t help the proud smile on his face because he knew his parents were going to fall in love with you all over again.
“I must say, I was surprised when you two showed up together tonight,” his mother told you once your plates were clear, gracefully holding her third glass of wine in her hand. This woman could get blind-drunk and still remain one of the most elegant people you’ve ever met. “But I really shouldn’t have been, should I? It’s been a long time coming.”
“It really has,” his father agreed. You couldn’t decipher his tone and weren’t quite sure if there was supposed to be a hidden meaning behind his words.
His gaze was so intense, however, that you feared it was going to penetrate your mind and catch you in a lie. Lowering your eyes, you smiled and chose to sit here quietly because that reduced your chances of saying the wrong thing and ruining this.
“We’re glad to welcome you back into our family, though,” Jungkook’s mother added. “I always felt like we were missing something by the table at our Sunday night dinners.”
“Well, our son was what was missing most of the time,” his father interjected and you could feel the jolt that went through Jungkook’s body as his hold on your hand tightened. “But it seems like we’ll see a lot more of you now, yes?”
“Yes,” Jungkook said and then cleared his throat. He thought he sounded like a child every time he spoke to his father. “You know I’m trying to be more responsible.”
“That’s good,” his father said. “I hope this motivation isn’t short-lived.”
You couldn’t help your curiosity as you lifted your gaze to look at the man who’d fathered the boy next to you because, more and more, it was starting to sound like he was talking to a random neighborhood kid who’d misbehaved instead of his own child.
And yet, the look in Jungkook’s father’s eyes was warm. He wished well. He may have acted like he was thinking of the future of his company but, really, he seemed to have been genuinely worried about his son. He’s always been worried about Jungkook but the way he chose to express this worry – by neglecting instead of nurturing, by scolding instead of helping – wasn’t the most effective and his mother had been the one who tried to make up for it.
Just like right now, as she coughed coolly, diverting your attention from his father and giving her son a supportive smile.
“I’m sure it’s not,” she said. “He’s got a determined face. He’s not giving up.”
“I’m not,” Jungkook confirmed and looked at you with such care in his eyes that, for a moment, you forgot that this was all an act. “She’s helping me remain motivated.”
“Well, good,” his father said – and, for what seemed like the first time in his life, Jungkook didn’t immediately turn his head in the direction of his voice, choosing to look at you for a moment longer instead – as he straightened in his chair. “Don’t lose her.”
“Don’t worry,” Jungkook said, following the request you’d made in the car – he was going to be lying to his parents, but he was going to be honest with you, “I won’t.”
Even though the dinner turned out to be unexpectedly bearable and even pleasant, you still hoped you’d get to leave as soon as your plates were empty but Jungkook’s mother proved that she wasn’t just treating you nicely because you were a guest in her house – she was treating you nicely because she genuinely loved having you around again. So, instead of letting you leave, she insisted on serving dessert and then, much to your and Jungkook’s horror, taking the old photo-albums out.
You were certain that these pictures were going to trigger some sort of long-suppressed traumas as you and Jungkook stared at each other with wide eyes, alarms going off in both of your heads.
“Oh, this is a good one!” his mother said, coming back with a pale yellow album. “It’s from when you two were toddlers, so you probably don’t even remember these.”
“We might remember the pictures,” Jungkook pointed out carefully, not wanting to hurt her feelings, “we’ve seen them before.”
“Well, I should hope you did. Pictures were made to be looked at,” she said in an oddly profound way and then patted the couch on each side of herself, indicating for you and him to sit. “I know you two kids must have plans of your own, so I’m not going to bring the entirety of our photo library out. But, bear with me here, okay? It’s been so long since I’ve had you both in the same room.”
You swallowed thickly, realizing now that, in your suffering over your lost friendship with Jungkook, you hadn’t even considered the pain your fall-out brought upon your families who treated you both like you were their children.
“We, um—we have time for one photo-album,” you said and his mother’s face lit up. “It’s been a while since we’ve seen the pictures anyway.”
And it really has as you found yourself struggling to remember the context of the pictures – even though you had heard the stories about your early years so many times before – as Jungkook’s mother flipped through them, chuckling and cooing at how cute you looked when you were getting your diaper changed. Or how ridiculously easy it was to get you or Jungkook to stop screaming for no reason and photograph you.
“We just had to put you both in the same crib,” his mother said. “Ever since you were born, you were both fussy babies. You’d eat, you’d rest, you’d interact, and you would still keep crying. But your mom and I figured out a solution one night when we were tired. We moved Jungkook to your crib and the crying stopped almost immediately.”
You recalled hearing about this now that she mentioned it, but the story seemed to gain a new meaning now.
“We weren’t sure what would happen if we did this,” she continued, flipping to a new page where several pictures of you and Jungkook laying next to each other in the crib were taken, “but you seemed to calm down around each other. So, whenever we would come over to your house or vice versa, we’d leave you two to yourselves and, us, adults, would actually be able to have a night-in like in the old days.”
“And you weren’t afraid we would get into a fight when left alone?” Jungkook asked, always one to wreck a sweet moment as he mimicked tiny baby fists and the boxing fight he had in mind.
His mother laughed, shaking her head.
“You’d never. You didn’t even cry when you had to share toys with each other. It surprised us, actually,” she said and then she looked at you with the same warm gaze that Jungkook possessed, “your mom and I thought that this was because we had been best friends for years before you two were born, you know? We kept joking how our kids were naturally made to be best friends as well.”
You smiled but, once again, it was Jungkook who made a comment, “huh. Who knew friendships were hereditary.”
“No, no, I think there was something more than just an inherited friendship,” his mother disagreed with a soft shake of her head, “you two couldn’t even talk – you could scarcely sit unsupported – and yet you shared this calming effect on each other. There seemed to be this connection between you from the very beginning. It was almost bizarre at times,” she looked at you again as she continued, “one time, you dropped your favorite plushie through the gap in the crib and it landed on the floor. Jungkook, sitting on my lap as your mother and I talked in the kitchen, started to cry. Just like that. Completely out of the blue.”
“Maybe he heard me crying over the lost toy?” you suggested.
“No, that’s just the thing – you weren’t crying. He was,” she said. “But he couldn’t have known that you dropped the toy because your room wasn’t visible from where we were sitting. It was like he could somehow feel your distress. It was most peculiar and yet so sweet. It charmed everyone’s hearts whenever we told them. They, of course, thought we were exaggerating this, but—”
“I can see why they’d think that,” Jungkook interjected with a smile for his mother – as a response to the glare she gave him after he’d said this.
“—but that’s what happened,” she finished. “You two always had a special bond. It’s what brought you back together after so long, I think.”
She continued to flip through the pictures but she didn’t share any more stories. And, when you looked up at her face, you were surprised to see tears in her eyes. Unsure what to say, you waited for Jungkook to notice that you were looking at her – and he did, almost right away – and then allowed him to take control of the situation.
He didn’t know what the right thing to say was, either – asking why she was tearing up seemed impolite somehow, even if she was his mother – and, to be honest, he feared that she might have expressed her joy about your relationship if he asked her anything right now, and that would have made him feel guilty because he was, technically, faking it all.
So, placing his hand on his mother’s and, consequently, stopping her from opening the next page, he said softly, “this has been really nice, mom. But it’s getting late. We should probably get going.”
Sniffling, she looked up at the clock on the opposite wall of the room and then nodded, chuckling in a useless attempt to hide her teary eyes.
“Of course,” she said. “I was a bit much, wasn’t I?”
“Not at all,” you cut in quickly. “I’ve always loved your stories.”
“Yeah,” Jungkook echoed. “But we better get going before you reveal anything else about our childhoods and we learn that we’re long-lost X-Men with telepathic abilities.”
This got his mother to laugh finally.
“Oh, shut it,” she said with a good-natured smile. “I was just saying how you two are special.”
“Thanks for that, mom,” he said, kissing her temple. “But, still, we have to get going.”
“Thank you very much for dinner,” you said as his mother stood up to walk you to the door. “It was lovely.”
“Having you here was lovely as well,” she replied, giving you a hug – this time, without Jungkook holding your hand and pulling you back – and then, whispering in your ear so her son wouldn’t hear, she said, “thank you for taking care of him.”
And, meaning every word, you whispered back, “it’s my pleasure.”
When Jungkook stopped the car outside of your dormitory, neither of you was sure what to do next.
The story of a mysterious but powerful connection that his mother had told you still echoed in your head and it was this story that prompted you to say the first thing that popped into your mind, all so you wouldn’t have to wallow in the silence of the car and make yourself suffer, thinking about your possible destiny to be close to each other.
“Hey,” you said, “I didn’t get to ask before. Why does your whole car smell like strawberries?”
“Oh,” he seemed relieved to hear you speak, “that’s strawberries and mint,” he clarified and pulled a plastic bottle of Orbit chewing gum from the glove compartment, “it’s my favorite gum. Want one?”
“Ah. No, thanks.”
“Suit yourself,” he said, popping a few pieces of gum into his mouth. Suddenly, you regretted not taking one as well just to have something to do because the sight of his jaw moving was near hypnotizing. “So. Same time next week?”
You laughed, glad that the exit out of this unusual situation turned out to be far less awkward than you’d expected -- there was no guide-book on how to end fake-dates, after all.
It must have been the aforementioned connection doing its magic again.
“Sure,” you said, opening the door of the car. “See you then.”
“See you until then,” he corrected, leaning down so he’d be able to see you as you stepped out of the car and paused, peering inside. “We have class together and I’m an exemplary student now, remember?”
“Oh, right,” you played along. “Well, I’ll catch you at our Marketing test then.”
Jungkook was putting the chewing gum back into the glove department but he did a double-take after you said that. “We have—you’re fucking with me, right?”
“No,” you resisted the urge to grin. “The professor told us last week.”
He was confused. “Where was I?”
You shrugged. “I don’t know. Getting drunk? Starting fights? Crashing your car into—”
“Alright, got it,” he cut you off. “Can I meet you before the test? So we can compare notes?”
You scoffed. “Lots of good that’ll do me when you didn’t attend a single class this semester.”
“I’m a charity case,” he tried. “You’ll feel very fulfilled after having helped me.”
You weren’t sure if it was your natural inability to say no to him or his sparkling eyes that got you to roll your eyes and abandon any form of protesting you may have resolved to if you’d been talking to someone else.
“Fine,” you said. “See you before the test.”
Jungkook smiled, very pleased with himself. “Thank you again.”
“For the test?”
He looked down before answering, not wanting to spent the rest of the night thanking you for everything you’d ever done for him, but also not being able to find the words that would express his gratitude properly because, no, he wasn’t thanking you just for the test. Or just for tonight.
“For being my friend,” he ended up saying. “I couldn’t have asked someone else to do this.”
Your chest seemed to expand to fit all the butterflies, and, because you didn’t know how to deal with so many fluttering wings inside of you, you ended up replying teasingly, “why not? I think Taehyung would have done wonders fake-dating you.”
Jungkook snorted, shaking his head. “He might have. But I’d still rather do this with you. So, thank you.”
That was twice he’d thanked you now. If he’d have done it again, your chest would have most likely exploded.
“Anytime,” you said, your gaze lingering on his as you took this moment in. “That’s what friends are for, apparently, right?”
“I wouldn’t know,” he replied with an awkward chuckle. “Turns out, I don’t have a lot of them.”
“Well,” you said, not sure if saying this would make the situation better and yet not being able to not say it, “you have me.”
The thoughts in his head all stopped running and left his heart in charge of processing your words.
“R-right...” he said weakly and you gave him one last smile and a wave, and then finally closed the door of his car before walking away to your dormitory.
Jungkook watched you go, his head empty but his chest full. His breath hitching but his eyes alive. His body numb but his blood pumping.
He had you. He had you. He had you.

Build Me Up Buttercup *Epilogue*
Note: And that’s that, ladies and gents! I have been debating whether to write a sequel, because I found another Taylor Swift song that is perfect for them. [I’m sorry I love the song tie ins, OKAY?]
But I also promised someone I’d write more on my “Return To Sender” one shot, and I’m thinking of a story where the reader is a waitress at Fazzoli’s and has a crush on the ADA that’s always eating there....
What do ya’ll think?
.....Aaaaand almost forgot @wanniiieeee @chasingeverybreakingwave

~*Epilogue: One Year Later*~
“Thank you very much detective, we’ll see you next week!”
You waved goodbye to the group of young ladies at your old campus. You had just started a program there that helped girls who had been assaulted get help physically, legally and mentally. It was your passion project that you had been working with Olivia and Rafael over the past year, and it was finally up and running. It was the greatest present for the day of you being promoted to full fledged detective at SVU.
You were heading towards the edge of campus when your phone began going off, playing a customized ringtone:
Build me buttercup baby….
“Well hey there counselor, thought you’d be in court all day,” you grinned.
“They ended up taking a plea deal. What can I say, I’m a master negotiator,” you could hear the smirk on your boyfriend’s face through the phone.
“That’s not all you're the master of,” You lowered your voice suggestively, biting your lip with a smile.
“Speaking of that, what are you doing right now, carino?”
“I’m leaving campus, but I’ve gotta go back to the office papi, no time for tontear,” You giggled, hearing him growl in allure.
“God I love it when you speak Española, mi vida,”
“Well now you know how I feel all the time, mi amor,”
“It just makes me wanna….” He started to speak but a grab from behind startled you, and you punched the assailant with your free hand-- only to see that it was Rafael.
“Oh my god!! Baby!! I am so sorry!!!” You dropped your phone and helped him up, checking every bit of his body making sure you hadn’t done any damage.
“It’s fine carino, I should know better than to sneak up on you,” He assured you, rubbing his neck. “Been working on that right hook, have you?”
“I should come with a warning label I swear to God… are you sure you’re ok?” You smoothed out his clothes, adjusting his tie and what not until he took your hands and made you look at him.
“I am better than okay, mi vida. And I have a surprise for you,” He smiled, taking an envelope out of his jacket pocket and handing it to you. You took it with curiosity, and when you pulled out the two pieces of paper your face lit up.
“TAYLOR SWIFT?!!! AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN?!!!! TONIGHT?!?!?!?!?!” You squealed, jumping into his arms. He spun you around with a laugh--
“Happy Anniversary, my love,”
You pulled back a moment, stunned. Did you actually forget your anniversary?
“You mean, a year ago we….”
“You slashed your tires so that we could have sex, yeah that was a year ago,” He chuckled, then flat out started laughing when you hit him in embarrassment, looking at the people walking by.
“I so did NOT--” You protested, but he shut you up with a kiss.
“Oh you so DID,” he stuck his tongue out playfully while escorting you to the curb you had finally reached, where a town car was waiting.
“Fancy!” You giggled, holding Rafa’s hand while you got in the car. Champagne and roses were there to greet you in the seat.
“Rafa! Baby…” You pulled him into another kiss, the two of you smiling like idiots.
“...Somebody wants some of the good stuff tonight,” You whispered, biting your lip and tugging at his belt.
“Well I won’t say no to that-- but it might have to wait for a while, seeing as we’re going to have drinks with Taylor after the show,” Rafa couldn’t help but laugh at the size of your eyeballs.
“SHUT UP NO WAY REALLY?!?!?!?!” You couldn’t help but scream at this news, quickly noticing the driver wince in pain, you apologized but returned to freaking out at an acceptable decibel.
“Rafa are you serious? How did you even pull that off?!”
“....I told you, I’m a master negotiator,” he winked. A million thoughts started racing through your head as to just what that meant. What kind of negotiating? With whom did he negotiate? Was it money? Did he black mail Taylor Swift?!
Rafael recognized that distant look in your eyes when your mind took off on a trail, he turned your face to look him in the eyes.
“Hey, don’t overthink it baby. Just say ‘thank you papi’, and drink your champagne before it gets warm,” He took a glass and filled it up, handing it to you.
“Thank you papi,” you rolled your eyes with a smile. You sipped your champagne when your eyes travelled to your less than elegant pantsuit pants.
“Oh my god wait, Rafa I can’t meet Taylor Swift like THIS--” You started to resume freaking out but before you had a chance, Rafael pulled out a bag from the front seat.
“What the--?” You grabbed it and looked inside; A cocktail dress in your favorite color and new Jimmy Choos to match.
“I know I ruined the last ones you had when you chased after me in the woods,” He chuckled.
“Outside that gas station in BFE? I was SO mad, oh my god I thought I was going to kill you!” You exclaimed, remembering that day vividly. You couldn’t believe that it had been an entire year since then, it felt like it flew by.
“Well, you’re sure lucky you didn’t,” He smirked, kissing your cheek as you tried on the shoes.
“I know right, I wouldn’t be meeting TAYLOR SWIFT!” You giggled at his grumpy cat response, his little pout was more adorable than intimidating, you couldn’t remember how you ever thought otherwise.
“Hey-- In all seriousness,” You took his hand. “I am so grateful for that road trip. I don’t know what I would have done if we hadn’t taken it,”
“I’d like to think one of us would have eventually said something,” Rafael smiled.
“Probably me,” “Probably you” -- you both spoke at the same time, then laughed at the fact that you were both definitely right. God knows what scheme you would have concocted in the office just to get him alone.
“But seriously, Y/N--- I think that road trip was destiny,” He looked into your eyes.
“I love you, more than any woman I’ve ever known. Except my abuela,”
“And your mom,”
Rafael made a face and shrugged. “Rafael!!” You hit him with a shocked giggle.
“I love you, and I’m never letting you go,” He said with so much sincerity and love, it was killing you not to start crying; But your makeup was on point today!
“I love you Rafael Barba, more than anyone and anything. EVER,” You enunciated the last word, trying to convey just how far other people were down the list next to him.
He could only smile back, because tears were choking up his own throat. He pulled you in for a deep, passionate kiss and afterwards just held you, as you two rode in that car on that perfect night.
That night, Taylor Swift herself dedicated “Sparks Fly” to ‘Mr. Barba and his Buttercup,” and you two danced in the crowd as her voice rang out in the New York air:
Get me with those green eyes
Baby, as the lights go down
Give me something that'll haunt me
When you're not around
'Cause I see sparks fly
Whenever you smile

𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧' | 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐨𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐢 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨
➺ summary: of course it had to be the cool and aloof shoto who you fell for, out of all the boys in class a. for now, you’re content admiring him from afar—but one thing leads to another and now it’s time for you to confess.
➺ pairing: todoroki shōto x reader
➺ word count: 2.7k
➺ warnings: stress/overthinking, general insecurity is mentioned, one bad word (also i briefly mention your quirk & there’s a suggestive comment)
➺ genre: fluff, pining (?)
➺ gender-neutral and racially inclusive reader
➺ a/n: this is just cute cliché fluff that i hope can cheer ya up if needed :) please enjoy as i abuse italics and ellipses...
You were surprised there weren’t rose petals floating in the air and angels singing, to top off just how ethereal Shoto looked in fourth period. Well, fourth period and every day.
Present Mic was talking but his ear-piercing voice might as well have been crickets with how distant you were from the classroom. You were in a Shoto kind of mood today, and just by reassuring yourself that you were a relatively hardworking student, you let school take a backseat to your uncontrollable heart.
It hadn’t even been that long since you finally admitted to yourself that you were most definitely crushing on Todoroki but that didn’t even matter, because it was becoming increasingly more difficult to keep your thoughts clear of him.
Shoto wasn’t even really your type. He was a bit too quiet and came off a little detached but somehow that just added to your fascination with him. He scared you at first, but now you admired him for his cool nature and genuinely impressive skills. That was really where your problems lay.
Shoto was much too cool and remarkable to like someone like you.
You usually didn’t compare yourself to others (you had a pretty nice Quirk and were good at using it) but of course you couldn’t help but realize you paled in comparison to Todoroki Shoto and it made you unbelievably insecure.
But that didn’t stop you from finding him attractive.
Your right cheek was squished against the palm of your hand, propped up by your elbow on the desk. From your optimal desk placement, it was too easy to watch Shoto out of the corner of your eye, and even turn your head to stare at him when he looked down.
It was definitely creepy, but he was yet to catch you so it was fine.
Shoto brushed his half-red-half-white hair out of his eyes and copied something down, squinting a little bit as he bent over slightly to write. You wanted to squeal but bit your lip to keep it in—he just looked so cute and it was making your heart race.
In the back of your mind, you could hear and process that you were supposed to be paying attention to the directions for something but you couldn’t seem to tear your eyes away from Shoto’s serene expression even as he looked up at the board.
Stop it, look away! You were trying to urge yourself but it didn’t seem to work.
Sure enough, Shoto’s bi-colored eyes locked onto yours in a heartbeat and you flinched, jolting out of your comfortable rest and into an upright position pointed straight at the board, trying to ignore the heat that rushed to your face.
✾ ✾ ✾ ✾ ✾
You tapped your fingers on the smooth surface of a clean notebook page, biting the end of your pen as you looked out the window. Most of the Class 1-A students had retreated to their rooms, but you and a handful of others milled around the first floor.
Your legs were tucked under you in your spot on the couch, and you swayed your head slightly to the quiet music playing in your earbuds. There was only one assignment left for you to complete but you were absolutely exhausted already; it had been a long day and you were ready to go to bed. Maybe even think about Shoto before falling asleep.
“Y/N! I was about to go up—wanna come with me?”
You swiftly ripped out your earbuds to see Ochaco, who appeared pretty much out of nowhere, with a bright smile and pink cheeks like always. You smiled involuntarily at the sight of her and nodded, but quickly remembered you weren’t actually finished.
“Oh, um, maybe later? I still have one more thing to do,” you replied, pointing to the blank notebook page.
Ochaco looked disappointed for a split-second but went back to her usual cute grin, leaning over the back of the couch towards you.
“It’s okay! You don’t mind if I sit with you, right?”
“Go ahead,” you said quietly, pausing your music and setting the mess of cords aside while she sat down beside you. You gripped your blue pen tightly and started writing faster, but felt Ochaco staring. You finished up a sentence and finally turned to her. She was still smiling, but in a different way. You had a sinking feeling that you knew where this was going.
“Are you gonna ask about Shoto?” You questioned her timidly, already beginning to sweat in anticipation of the upcoming conversation.
She looked into her lap shyly, her smile slightly fading.
“Well, I just noticed you looking at him today and I wanted to talk to you about it. Of course, if you don’t want to, you don’t have to!” Ochaco’s brown eyes sparkled under the lamps as she looked at you, hopefully.
“It’s fine,” you said, cheeks warm and homework forgotten. “If you really want to know, I like him.”
Not even a moment after the words left your lips, there were hurried footsteps approaching the two of you and a bright pink ball of joy was sitting on the next couch over.
“Really?! Y/N, I think he likes you, too!” Mina contained her excitement to the best of her ability.
You shook your head, barely bothered by the fact that another person knew your secret and more concerned with Mina’s unforeseen confession.
“No way! If he likes anyone, it’s probably not me,” you said, looking over at the table Shoto had been sitting at before going up to his room almost an hour ago.
“I’m telling you! I was watching him this past week and he was looking at you, like, a lot. Oh my gosh, you guys would look so cute together! I almost forgot to tell you that, by the way, thankfully I was eavesdropping,” Mina said. She and Ochaco were both smiling as they stared at you, looking convinced that there was no reason to question the validity of this new “information.”
“But there’s no… no way! I don’t really care if he doesn’t like me back, anyway,” you played around with your fingers, uselessly trying to brush off the false hope that Mina’s words had secretly given you.
“Y/N?”
You looked up at Ochaco, who wore a soft expression on her face.
“I think you should tell him how you feel, after class tomorrow. I trust Mina and after thinking about it, it looks like she could be right! I know you don’t believe us but it couldn’t hurt to go after him, right? I’ll even tell him for you, if you want.”
You had been so sure that Shoto barely noticed you that there was a large possibility that you missed some hints. Of course, the other side of you was completely unmovable. But Mina looked so happy, and Ochaco was so excited too…
“I mean, I’ll think about it,” you said. You couldn’t help but smile as the two girls’ faces lit up.
Mina laughed a bit as she squealed excitedly. “Can I watch the whole thing? I’ll hide behind a wall or something!”
Your face felt hot again as your mind lingered on what you actually got roped into. Confessing to Shoto… alone… with no true confirmation that he even reciprocated your feelings.
The idea of doing such a thing was so unlike you that you wanted to cry out of fear. There was a lot that could go wrong.
“Y/N, you’re gonna be fine. There’s no doubt in my mind,” Ochaco added, sensing your unease.
You nodded, half-terrified and half-excited as you started stacking your books in your arms to go upstairs. Mina hugged you, still giddy over your answer but you could only feel anxious. You hadn’t even considered confessing to Shoto and now you practically didn’t have a choice?
It seemed like you wouldn’t be sleeping a wink that night.
✾ ✾ ✾ ✾ ✾
Red and white.
Your brain was so preoccupied with imagining all the different ways Shoto could react that those two colors were practically etched on the inside of your eyelids.
Of course, the happy-ending scenarios were your favorite to imagine. You don’t stumble over your words or start sweating profusely, and Shoto says he’s been in love with you since the day you first met.
It’s a little too good to be true.
You recognized that and as a result, filled your head with the possibility of rejection and humiliation at the hands of Todoroki. Each time the clock ticks, you prepare yourself for it. You might have been optimistic in most situations, but your love life was really just uncharted territory and you couldn’t afford to think like that.
The sudden scraping of chairs against the floor and chorus of loud voices alerted you that the last class of the day had finished.
And for someone who had just spent hours panicking, you felt oddly ready.
“Psst,” a small voice whispered and you felt a tap on your shoulder. You turned around to see Mina and Ochaco’s smiles of encouragement. You nervously sent one back before standing up from your seat.
“Go, go, go! We’ll take your stuff with us!”
You picked up your pace towards the back of the classroom as Mina’s fingers poked you in the back.
You can do it, you told yourself, slowly easing your nerves. A small smile formed on your lips but it went away almost instantly when you looked at Shoto and your insecurities began to surface.
Shit, he was just too good-looking.
You took a deep breath and walked the last few spaces until you were right beside Shoto’s desk.
Don’t cry don’t cry don’t cry don’t cry don’t-
“Hi.”
Your fingers instinctively reached for the back of your neck and you scratched awkwardly, much too shy to look Shoto in the eyes.
“Hi! I was, um, wondering if you could step outside with me for a second? I… I want to tell you something,” you said. See, that wasn’t so bad.
“Oh, sure.”
Why doesn’t he emote?! Maybe he doesn’t care about me at all…
Shoto stood up from his seat, leaving his supplies behind. He was obviously taller standing up but that didn’t make him any less intimidating. It didn’t help that his resting face was handsome, too. You tried to keep your cool but it all felt so different—you went from fantasizing day after day about him to this.
Once you two found a quiet spot further down the hall, you took another deep breath and looked up at Shoto.
He was looking back at you, but not in a way that scared you; in fact, there was something in his gaze that made heat rush to your cheeks and brought your hand back up behind your neck again.
“Um, I know we don’t talk that much but I think you’re really cool,” you began, taking another look at Shoto to see that he had tilted his head to the side, eyeing you as if you were a curious little thing that he simply didn’t understand.
“And… and even if you might not feel the same, I-”
A flash of pink moved somewhere in your field of view.
You looked for it momentarily, causing Shoto to look away from you and in the direction of your line of sight. You tapped his arm lightly, giggling a bit as he looked back down at you, slightly puzzled.
“It’s nothing, sorry,” you said, feeling a little less nervous.
“But I was saying that I think you’re really cool a-and I might have been staring at you a lot for the past few weeks because you’re cute and-” Your eyes widened at the words leaving your mouth and you sneaked a look at Shoto, who seemed equally shocked.
“I mean, y-you are cute but that’s not why- wait, sorry… geez. I, um, like you. As more than a friend.”
Damn, you must have done something pretty remarkable in one of your lifetimes to be able to experience the beauty of Todoroki Shoto.
You bit your lip nervously as you awaited a response, but Shoto’s reaction was somehow much better than anything he could have said.
His relaxed stance tensed up in surprise at your words. You could see his hands shift around inside his pockets and you heard him intake air so cutely it cut through the wall of fear that was built around you since you first approached him. But his face was what made your heart flutter with joy. Even if it was just a light blush, you made his cheeks turn pink.
A hopeful smile stretched across your face as you admired him, waiting patiently as he thought out what to say (and you wished frantically that it turned out in your favor).
“Y/N,” you hopped cheerily at the way he said your name, “I… I didn’t know you felt that way.”
“I made sure you didn’t notice but I was also watching you. I… think that I like you, too.” Shoto ended his little confession, still pink-cheeked but looking satisfied with himself.
“Really? I mean, wow! I-I can’t believe- but, what do we do now?” You weren’t really looking for an answer; you wanted to jump for joy, maybe even scream. It was like lifting your hood to see the sunlight after weeks of having it drawn shut. You couldn’t tell whether you wanted to kiss Shoto (considering the context of the situation) or just hug him out of blissful relief.
“Well, would you like to go out with me sometime?” Shoto offered, looking down at you, amused at your delight with a hint of adoration in his eyes.
“Yes, of course!” You were done with this awkward conversation: all you wanted to do was feel Shoto’s arms around you. But you knew him well enough to understand he wouldn’t hug you right then.
Shoto wore a small grin as he watched you and after a moment’s contemplation, you beckoned him a bit closer. He obliged, bending slightly.
High off of the rush of the moment, you leaned in and pressed a little kiss to his cheek, right below his scar.
Shoto pulled back slowly, looking thoroughly shocked. You bit your lip again, hoping you hadn’t gone too far.
“W-Wow, thanks,” he managed to say, his face a few shades redder than before. He couldn’t make eye contact with you, instead choosing to stare out the window shyly.
“No problem, I’ve wanted to do that for a while now,” you replied, the smile returning to your face. “I guess I’d better get going then.”
You straightened out your blazer and took a step out of the little corner you had been occupying. With a look over your shoulder, your heart fluttered again at the sight of him, flustered and frozen.
“Well, bye Shoto.” You waved at him—he waved back, the rosy blush still prominent on his beautiful face—and turned back around, with a slight bounce in your step.
“Wait, Y/N!”
You spun around eagerly.
“Would you like to walk with me?”
✾ ✾ ✾ ✾ ✾
“I’ll just say it: I knew you could do it, Y/N!” Ochaco was grinning from ear to ear again as the three of you lounged around in Mina’s room, still in your uniforms because you were far too excited to talk about the afternoon’s events.
“And I’ll just say it: I wasn’t watching Todoroki at all before!” Mina chimed in but the smile fell off your face in an instant.
“So I just went into that with nothing even kind of ensuring that he liked me back? Oh my god, that could have gone so wrong,” you sighed in relief, your head in your hands as you looked down at the floor.
“Well, I was just trying to give you a little confidence. I think this just proves that you can pull any guy you want, Y/N.” Mina smirked.
Heat rushed to your face. “I don’t think I’d go as far as to say that.”
Mina ignored you, opting to lean back in her chair and eye you curiously. “Okay, now we have to start talking about the future for you two—this is just the beginning. When do you think you’ll take your relationship to the next level?”
“What?! I-I didn’t realize we’d have to-”
“Y/N! Get your mind out of the gutter! She did not mean it like that!”

Inevitable
Pairing: NishinoyaX(OC)-Kaede Mizuki
Words:6.2K
Summary: Kaede and Nishinoya get along great, but when it comes to dating she’d consider them the least compatible people on the entire planet. So, when her heart starts acting up around him she figures it’s best to ignore it for as long as possible
A/N: This is my favorite thing I’ve written so far and honestly I think it's my highest quality work. I’m very proud of this one, so enjoy :) *artwork commissioned @Kurushima_Kaito on Twitter*
Masterlist
“I’m starving.”
Kaede tried her best to ignore the boy obnoxiously leaning his entire body weight on her as she finalized the week’s task list. She ticked off the final box of ‘wash practice jerseys’ she and Yachi spent half the afternoon on saying, “you’re always hungry. I told you to start bringing snacks.”
“But that’s so much work,” Nishinoya whined, resting his chin on her shoulder. He began twirling her half-ponytail around his finger while wiggling his eyebrows. “Hey, what if you started-”
“I don’t have enough time to start babying you, Noya.” She said, ignoring his pout while securing the pen at the top of the clipboard. “I have to give this Kiyoko so you should-.”
He hummed happily, “Kiyoko.”
She gave him a quick glare before shaking him off her shoulder, “can you go bother someone else?”
“Nah, everyone’s busy,” he said, skipping after her. She glanced around to the team of boys standing around and very clearly not busy. Kiyoko stood beside a flushed Yachi as they flipped through pages of a small notebook, going over a few minor details before tomorrow’s match against Shiratorizawa.
“Hey Kiyoko, I’m finished with the-”
“Don’t worry, I got this.” Nishinoya plucked the clipboard out of her hands. “Hello, beautiful. We completed stuff. Obviously, I offered my assistance because of how thoughtful and handsome I am.”
“Sure,” Kiyoko accepted it, flipping through the pages before nodding to Kaede. “Thank you.”
Kaede opened her mouth, but Nishinoya cut her off. “You’re welcome, gorgeous.” He placed his elbow on Kaede’s shoulder. “Anyway, Kiyoko. You come here often?”
“She’s a manager.” Kaede deadpanned.
“It wasn’t literal, Mizuki. It’s a conversation starter.”
“That’s what you went with?” Kaede pinched the bridge of her nose. “‘Kiyoko, how’s your day?’, ‘Kiyoko, are you ready for tomorrow?’, ‘Kiyoko, I like your hair.’”
Nishinoya cocked his head to the side. “Hair?”
“She got a haircut.”
“Oh shit, really?” Nishinoya looked back to where Kiyoko was and his shoulders slumped. “She’s gone.”
“This is why you’ll die alone,” Kaede brushed his arm off her so she could walk to her backpack.
“You’re so mean to me.” His pout turned into a sly smirk. “I kind of like it.”
Kaede rolled her eyes, ignoring everything else that came out of his mouth as she switched out of her gym shoes to finally go home. The sound of volleyballs smacking the court drew her attention and she was hardly surprised to see Hinata and Kageyama still practicing with Yachi’s assistance.
“How come they never ask me to help?” Kaede wondered aloud, swinging on her worn backpack.
“‘Cause you’re really bad at volleyball.” Nishinoya snorted.
“That was rhetorical.”
“I don’t know what that means.”
She purposely bumped his shoulder as she walked past him to the gym doors and he over exaggeratedly grabbed it with a hiss, “are you trying to injure me before finals?”
“Shut up,” She snorted.
“You think you can just replace me as libero?”
“I think I can roll around on the floor, yeah.” Kaede slid on her outdoor shoes and jumped onto the sidewalk. He narrowed his eyes at her, but before he could rant about Rolling Thunder Ennoshita called out a few yards away.
“The second years are all going out to eat. Are you both coming or what?” He shouted while Tanaka waved both his arms in a ‘get over here’ motion.
“You should come,” Nishinoya hurriedly shoved his feet into his outdoor shoes and leapt beside her. His smile softened as he nudged her hand hanging loosely by her side. “It’ll be fun.”
Her mouth twisted while she contemplated. It would be fun, sure, but with how early they were meeting at the school she wasn’t sure she could manage. Kaede bumped his hand back before giving a half-smile that made his expression drop.
“I have an exam to study for and we’re getting up too early.” She shrugged loosely, “Next time, okay?”
“Nerd.” He pouted.
“Probably,” she poked him in the forehead. “You better not send me a stupid video at three in the morning. You need to sleep too.”
“Yes, mom.” He rolled his eyes, but his lips were curved into a smile. He grabbed her hand off his forehead and squeezed it once before pivoting around to the waiting group. “Now go be lame somewhere else before you wear off on me.”
Kaede rolled her eyes. She waved goodbye to the other boys who booed at her unwillingness to attend. She glanced down at the hand that Nishinoya had squeezed before leaving, wondering why it was still so warm regardless of the chilled night.
She figured she was overthinking and waited for her racing heart to calm down. She just needed some sleep.
*******************************************************************************************
Kaede yawned, rubbing her sleep-filled eyes and snuggling against Kiyoko’s shoulder. Her eyelids hung heavy as she watched rather than listened to Coach Ukai and Coach Takeda give instructions before allowing them on the warm bus.
“It’s too early to be alive,” she whined when they finally finished, wrapping her arms around Kiyoko for protection against the morning’s frigid air.
Kiyoko patted her head, “it’s already seven, Kaede.”
Kaede whined pitifully again at the mere mention of the time. Sure, it had been seven at that moment, but they’d met at six-thirty which meant by herself she’d woken up before the sun had risen. Nobody should have to wake up before the sun.
Her eyes scanned the boys lined up along the bus to find most of them were in a similar state as her-leaning against each other and half-asleep. She locked eyes with Tanaka and Nishinoya who were glaring and she lifted a lazy brow before realizing her arms were still wrapped around Kiyoko.
Like the bigger person Kaede was, she nuzzled her cheek on Kiyoko and tightened the hug. They looked like they were about to pop a blood vessel until Daichi dragged them away by the back of their shirts.
Kaede snickered evilly until a shadow loomed over her.
“Are you seriously still tired?” Tsukishima asked condescendingly. “Is that going to be your new excuse for doing nothing?”
Kaede straightened up with her fists clenched. “Well, you’re-you look-you’re dumb.”
She cringed as Tsukishima cackled, walking triumphantly back to the bus. Yamaguchi trailed after him giving an apologetic smile that didn’t make her feel any better.
“I thought it was good.” Yachi smiled cheerfully.
Kaede patted her head half-smiling. “That’s all that matters then.” She lied, the burning sense of revenge coursing through her veins.
Kiyoko lightly pushed the small of Kaede’s back when they were letting people on the bus because managers got special privileges, such as, firsts. She hurriedly plopped down beside Yachi, excited to tune out the noisy team and hopefully fall back asleep.
She unzipped her jacket pocket and shoved her hand inside, digging for her headphones. She furrowed her brow and swiped her fingers around in a panic when she felt nothing but fabric. They had been there when she left her house...
“Is something wrong?” Yachi asked with a concerned crease in her brow.
“No, I…” Kaede slumped back in defeat. “I think I lost my headphones.”
“Oh no,” Yachi’s eyes widened. “Do you want to use mine?”
“No,” Kaede waved her off. “You were talking about that book you wanted to finish listening to. I don’t want to-”
There was a quick bop on her head and she whipped around to find Nishinoya smirking mischievously. Kaede’s sneer must have been more vicious than usual because the way his eyes widened in fear made her feel slight guilt. She leaned back in her seat and closed her eyes, hoping that she could tune out the obnoxiousness on her own.
Not even five minutes after the bus left Kaede felt a nervous tapping on her shoulder. She opened her eyes to Nishinoya leaning beside her backrest smiling apologetically.
She sighed, “what.”
He held out his palm to show a pair of tangled earbuds. She looked between them and his hesitant expression before just raising a brow. “They’re very nice, Noya. I’m not sure what you-”
“You lost yours, right?” He dropped them onto her lap. “I’m giving them to you.”
“What?” She picked them up and flipped them over in her palm. “Why?”
“I’m not using them and you looked upset,” his nose wrinkled. “You get really cranky when you’re upset.”
“Thanks,” she said monotone, beginning to untangle the pair. “Are you sure this is-”
“Do you want my jacket, too?”
She blinked a few times before turning to him. “Why would I need that?”
He rested his head against the side of her seat. “Well, aren’t you tired? It could be a pillow or something.”
“Oh,” she paused, furrowing her brow in thought. “I guess, but I’m not sure that’s necessar-”
He dropped the material on her head and created a static mess of her hair.
“Okay, feel better,” he said before hopping his way to the back of the bus. She sat in disbelief before turning to Yachi who was hiding a smile behind her hand.
“Don’t,” Kaede said, bundling the jacket and placing it behind her head. “He’s just an idiot with no concept of personal space.”
Kaede could finally tune out the rambunctious guys and leaned comfortably against her makeshift pillow, finding herself drifting to much needed sleep. She definitely didn’t find the way Nishinoya’s jacket smelled comforting-it just happened to be nicer than the musty bus. And if she snuggled up to it a few times that was purely because it was softer than the bus seat.
When she woke up it was for the bus pulling into the parking lot and everyone pushing their faces against the windows in awe of the stadium before them.
“Holy shit,” Tanaka breathed. “It’s even bigger in person.”
They piled out of the bus, shoving and pulling each other in a rush to get out of the cramped space. The boys stared at the building with their jaws slack.
“I feel sick again,” Hinata covered his mouth and Kageyama shoved him toward Tanaka who side-stepped him, leaving Hinata to fall flat on the concrete.
“Alright, everyone,” Coach Ukai clapped to garner attention. “I want best behavior. There’s a lot of people here, so don’t go embarrassing-”
“I bet I can get there first.” Hinata said, taking off for the front doors.
“You got a head start idiot. This doesn’t count.” Kageyama said, sprinting after him.
“Do you think they have food vendors?” Nishinoya tugged Tanaka’s sleeve and they both took off. Everyone stood there watching them before glancing awkwardly at the coaches.
“-me. Oh my god.” Coach Ukai palmed his eyes.
“Yeah, good luck with that.” Tsukishima snorted as he and Yamaguchi left the group. Kaede shrugged because this was Karasuno; chaotic as hell, but somehow they made it work.
The arena was as massive inside as it was outside, but it didn’t talk long to track down their missing morons. Hinata and Kageyama hadn’t left the main vestibule, and although Nishinoya and Tanaka had found food stands neither had actually brought money. Kaede wasn’t interested in donations either, regardless how good Nishinoya’s puppy-dog eyes were.
Since the court was reserved for the teams, coaches, and a single manager Kaede and Yachi would be watching the game from the stands. They said their goodbyes outside the locker room-ruffling Hinata’s hair, patting Asahi’s back, fist bumping Tanaka, and even forcing a good luck to Tsukishima-when she turned to Nishinoya she was thrown off by his lifted hands.
“You won’t be there when my name is called,” he pushed them forward. “So I need you to high-five me now.”
“That’s adorable,” Daichi said slyly behind him.
“It’s not adorable,” Nishinoya sneered at him, and a snickering Tanaka, with a red tint to his cheeks. “It’s just for luck. That’s all.”
“It’s a little adorable,” Kaede tried to force down her smile.
“Just high-five me, okay?” He mumbled, tensely pushing his hands further out. Kaede rolled her eyes before lightly patting her hands against his. He furrowed his brow and looked down at his palms. “That high-five sucked.”
“Beggars can’t be choosers,” she shrugged, grabbing Yachi’s hand to pull her toward the bleacher doors. “You can have a better one after you win the game.”
Kaede left him there pouting as her and Yachi pushed their way through metal doors that took them to Karasuno’s cheer section. Kaede was in awe at how many people were in attendance. They had somehow managed to go from a few people to a packed stand in only a few months.
“There’s our girls,” Saeko cheered, waving Kaede and Yachi toward the front of the bleachers. “Does this mean the boys are coming out soon?”
“Yes, ma’am.” Yachi nodded.
“Ugh, please don’t say that. Ma’am makes me feel ancient.” Saeko grimaced, leaning her forearms against the railing.
Yachi apologized profusely and Kaede laughed lightly at her meekness. That’s when Karasuno came out of the locker room for warm-ups-Saeko immediately dialing in on Tanaka, hollering her praises the moment he was in sight. While he was covering his face in embarrassment Hinata and Nishinoya were waving like madmen in hopes of gaining her attention.
Hinata cheerfully waved to Kaede and Yachi when he spotted them while Nishinoya smirked mischievously, making a heart shape at Kaede with his hands. She groaned, creating one herself before snapping it half to which Nishinoya dramatically dropped his jaw, flinging a hand against his chest in mock horror.
She giggled at his ridiculous performance which seemingly was enough to please him because he went back to focusing on warm-ups.
“So you and Noya got a little something-something going on?” Saeko gave her a once-over and nodded approvingly. “I never imagined he could bag a cutie like you, but I’ll give credit where credit is due.”
“What? No, that’s-” Kaede felt a shudder run down her spine. “I would never date, Noya. My standards aren’t that low.”
Saeko hummed, thrumming her fingers along the railing. “Noya’s a good kid with a lot of love to give, but I think you’ll figure that out.” Saeko ruffled Kaede’s hair, effectively messing up her half-ponytail.
Kaede narrowed her eyes suspiciously, but for her safety didn’t press the matter further. She leaned on the railing, watching Nishinoya carefully as he received with his classic Rolling Thunder-the team erupting in laughter around him.
If Kaede could describe Nishinoya in two words it would be simple-minded and clingy. The exact opposite of anyone she ever pictured herself in a relationship with. Did she think he was attractive? Sometimes. When he was smiling or laughing or focusing really hard on something or zoning out or pouting or… Well that wasn’t the point. The point was they weren’t compatible at all and Saeko had no clue what she was talking about.
Kaede felt a warmth creep up her neck as Nishinoya wrapped his arm around Hinata’s shoulders, a bright smile spread across his lips. She shrank into her shoulders. Right, no clue what she was talking about.
When the match finally began she found her confident facade fading as she clutched Yachi’s hand tightly, her heart pounding at the fast pace of the game. Kaede’s heart swelled with pride when Nishinoya adjusted to their powerful spiker, and ignored Saeko’s knowing glances when she bounced with excitement. The same feeling coursed through her as Hinata’s bright smile overtook his face and as she leaned over to celebrate with the convenience store guy for Yamaguchi’s service ace-she even hugged Yachi with all her might when Tsukishima made an amazing block.
As the ball took its final fall there was a lull in the air before the crowd erupted into cheer. Kaede and Yachi clutched each other tightly, jumping and shouting at their team’s well deserved victory. She felt tears pricking her eyes as she watched the boys dogpile in the center of the court-the third years a tearful mess in disbelief, unable to process they were actually going to nationals.
Kaede grabbed Yachi’s wrist with a final wistful look at the guys before tugging her into the hall so they could congratulate their team. She waited impatiently, bouncing on the balls of her feet, for the doors of the gym to swing open. At the first sign of them opening her and Yachi immediately jumped onto the still smiling team.
“You guys were amazing,” she turned to Hinata, waving her fist in the air. “Your spikes were insane Hinata!”
“Did you see my last one?” He swung his arm downward. “It was totally ‘shabam’, right?”
She nodded her head without a clue what he meant, turning to Yamaguchi to ruffle his hair, “and let’s not forget about you mr. service ace.”
“Stop,” he whined, swatting her hands away with a blush lighting up his freckled cheeks.
Kaede’s excitement grew as everyone raved about each other’s performances and began talking about nationals. Her emotions were near bursting when she spotted Nishinoya wearing a lopsided grin with both hands raised for the high-five she’d promised him.
Kaede rolled her eyes, completely bypassing his hands and wrapping her arms around his shoulders. He tensed up momentarily before encircling his arms around her waist.
She squeezed him before pulling back. “You were insane,” she smiled excitedly. “The setting thingy worked and your receives were amazing even though he was left-handed or whatever and everything was great-you were great!”
He stared at her seemingly frozen and she looked around awkwardly at his lengthy pause. Suddenly a cocky smirk made its way onto his lips and Kaede regretted her every decision.
“Setting thingy?” His eyes scanned her face. “Left-handed or whatever?”
“You try to compliment a guy and this is the thanks you-”
“I’m kidding. I’m kidding.” He smiled fondly before pulling her back to his chest, burying his face into the crook of her neck. “Thank you.”
Kaede blinked, loosely replacing her arms around his neck. Saeko’s teasing comments popped into her mind and her heart started beating at an irregular pace. She leaned her head against Nishinoya’s for a brief moment as her chest filled with an unfamiliar warmth.
She supposed Nishinoya wasn’t always terrible. He made her laugh sometimes and he genuinely cared about people and he never seemed to get nervous… she could admit those were decent qualities in a person. Kaede chewed the inside of her cheek as she let herself relax in his hold.
“Are you guys almost finished?” Suga called over,” we’re trying to pick a place to eat. Coaches are paying which means-”
“It’s free?” Nishinoya released her, nearly shoving her aside to get to the group. “We need to find the most expensive meat in the area guys. I’m starving, so maybe a buffet actually.”
Kaede glared at him as he attempted to use Asahi to assist him in bouncing high enough to see the center of the circle. She took a calming breath before joining Kiyoko on the far wall, slouching back with crossed arms. Kaede couldn’t fathom how she almost believed Nishinoya could be anything but obnoxious.
She knew she was right. Saeko had no clue what she was talking about.
*******************************************************************************************
Kaede grumbled as she slumped into the gymnasium after a grueling day of school. She toed off her shoes with an exaggerated sigh, lazily tossing her bag against the wall and sliding down beside it like a ton of bricks rested on her shoulders.
“What’s wrong with you?” Tanaka stood over her while she sluggishly dug out her gym shoes.
“I failed my exam,” she pouted, “couldn’t even answer all the questions.”
Tanaka snorted, “that sucks.”
She groaned, letting her head hang forward and hearing another unwanted set of footsteps approach.
“What’s wrong with her?” Nishinoya asked after a quick once-over.
“She failed an exam.”
“The Calc one?” Nishinoya crouched in front of her, pinching her cheeks to lift her face. “I thought you studied all weekend?”
“I did,” she deadpanned.
He grimaced, “well, if it makes you feel better I fail all the time.”
“Well, you’re an idiot.”
Nishinoya rolled his eyes, switching the pinch to a gentle cradle and leaning forward. “It’s only one exam.”
She started to argue, but he lightly bumped his forehead against hers.
“You’ll be fine,” he smirked. “You’re annoyingly smart, and there’s ways for you to make up the points, right?”
Kaede’s heart was in a frenzy as she nodded.
“See? Nothing to stress about then.”
“Whatever,” she mumbled, avoiding his eyes.
Nishinoya snorted, standing up and turning to the court. “Kinnoshita, send your practice serves to me, okay?”
She watched him run off before turning to Tanaka. “That was weird, right?”
“I honestly can’t tell with you two.”
She narrowed her gaze at Nishinoya, carefully fixing the bangs he’d messed up. She was probably just overanalyzing things because Saeko was still lurking somewhere in her mind and it was best not to think about it. Kaede finished putting her gym shoes on and decided she’d confidently continue on like nothing had happened.
A few days later Kaede was sitting cross-legged against the wall, searching for the phone numbers of coaches for possible practice matches-her first legit manager assignment. Nishinoya had joined her during the team’s allotted break, sitting down and tugging her non-dominant hand in his lap. He played with her fingers and languidly drew patterns against her palm, leaving a tingle blazing up her forearm.
“What are you doing?” She eventually asked when the goose bumps were too strong to ignore.
“It’s too bad you suck at volleyball,” he said, lifting her hand, “cause you have really nice hands.”
She pulled her hand back. “That was the weirdest backhanded compliment I’ve ever gotten.”
“What? I don’t even know what that is.” he whined, reaching for her hand.
She tucked her under her butt and he pouted. “It’s like a hidden insult.” She put the end of her pen on her lip in thought, ignoring how he tugged her arm in an attempt to free her hand from her butt. “It’s like if I told you, ‘too bad you’re so annoying because otherwise you’d be really cute’ or something.”
“You think I’m cute?” He asked with a sly smirk.
Her face flushed red. “What? No, it was an example. I said if I-”
“That’s okay,” he flicked the orange ribbon she used to keep her hair half-up. “I think you’re cute too.”
“I’m not cute.”
“You are,” he stated, standing and stretching to prepare for Daichi calling everyone back to the court. “Now if you’ll excuse me. The most attractive person you’ve ever seen has to get back to practice.”
“That’s not even close to what I-,” she started, but he was already waving her off. Kaede sneered, writing the phone numbers with more force than necessary.
That boy had a death wish and one day she would grant it...
Kaede paced around the next practice staring down at her notebook she’d been studying. She furrowed her brow as she tried to remember terms that Kiyoko had given her, but something felt off.
“I’m starving.”
Her muscles tensed as a familiar whine reached her ears, but unlike usual arms wrapped around her midsection and a chin rested on her shoulder. Kaede side-eyed Nishinoya who was observing the notebook in her hands with a raised brow.
“You’ve been pretty clingy lately,” she pointed out.
“In a good mood,” he reached forward to grab her notebook. “What’s this?”
“None of your business.” She said, moving it out of reach. “Aren’t you worried Kiyoko’s going to get the wrong idea?”
“Nah, I’m stepping down. Giving Tanaka a better chance, ya know?” Nishinoya made a grabbing motion. “I wanna see the book.”
She grumbled, but opened it back up, revealing volleyball terms and definitions along with really poorly drawn stick figures. Nishinoya straightened up, tugging it from her hands. “What is it?”
“I’m trying to learn everything for when Kiyoko leaves.” Kaede mumbled while her face grew red.
He fought back a smile while flipping through pages, “is there a section for liberos?”
Her eyes widened and she reached for the book, “no.”
“So, there is!”
“Stop. Give it back.”
His eyes scanned the pages while she attempted to reach over his shoulder. Eventually he landed on one before turning around with a wicked grin.
“Noya, I swear if you don’t-”
“‘Libero-my favorite position!’,” he read as he dodged her swipes. He flipped it around with an amused smirk, pointing to a stick figure with spiky hair. “Is this supposed to be me?”
“Obviously,” she crossed her arms. “It looks just like you.”
“What’s wrong with my legs?”
“Those are your knee pads!”
He cocked his head to the side, mulling that over. “I guess… I see it?” He scanned both his pages with a furrowed brow before holding out his hand. “A lot of stuff is missing. Do you have a pencil or something?”
Kaede offered him the pen from her track pants and he began writing notes all over the pages. She tried peeking over his shoulder, but he turned away.
“Noya, what are you-”
“Done!” Nishinoya snapped the notebook shut with the pen tucked between the pages. He bopped her on the forehead with it, wearing a fond smile. “Now you can really nerd out.”
Kaede’s cheeks warmed as she took the book back, but before she could thank him Coach Ukai was calling everyone to the court. He ruffled her hair before running off, which annoyingly sent a thrum through her heart.
Kaede chewed the inside of her cheek, opening her notebook to the section that Nishinoya had helped fill out before her expression immediately dropped. He had written majority useful notes, but most noticeable were comments about how libero was the best position and how ‘only attractive people play it’. He even gave his stick figure muscles and encased it in a giant heart.
No matter how hard Kaede tried to muster her usual frustration-nothing came. Instead she smiled fondly, her fingers trailing across the stupid words, ‘love of my life’ he’d written in the bottom corner with an arrow pointed to his stick figure. She closed her eyes as her stomach rolled with an unfamiliar feeling she didn’t know what to do with.
But Kaede knew one thing… She was screwed.
*******************************************************************************************
Kaede attempted to get through the rest of the week as if nothing had changed. She pretended her eyes weren’t lingering on Nishinoya longer than usual, that her heart wasn’t an uncontrollable mess when he laughed, or that she didn’t light up when he clung to her. Unfortunately, pretending wasn’t good enough and people were beginning to notice-even Nishinoya was giving her weird looks.
Honestly, she was just looking forward to their break since holidays were finally here. She needed time away from everyone to overthink her life choices.
Coach Ukai’s abrupt clap brought her back to reality where Nishinoya had been running his fingers through her hair while they stood in an end of practice huddle. Everyone was dispersing and Kaede looked around panicked, having zoned out and missing everything he said.
“He assigned daily work-outs for over break,” she heard Nishinoya begin, turning around confused, “he said Kiyoko should’ve given you tasks if you had any, and Kinnoshita, Suga, and Yamaguchi were assigned cleaning tonight.” Nishinoya smiled affectionately.
“Oh-I-uh-thank you.” She cringed at herself, but Nishinoya just saluted and left for his duffel bag.
“Th-th-thank you, Nishinoya…” Tanaka came up beside her with his hands clasped. “You’re so cute and funny and I loooooovvve-ow!”
She punched his arm as warmth crept up her neck. “I don’t sound like that!”
“You definitely do.”
She glanced at Nishinoya, then covered her mouth from his sight before saying, “do I really?”
“Don’t worry. Nishinoya’s as dumb as you.” Tanaka rolled his eyes before walking toward the other’s. “You could wear an ‘I love Nishinoya’ t-shirt and he still wouldn’t get it.”
She pouted at the insult, but was reassured by Nishinoya’s apparent obliviousness. Kaede followed Tanaka to the benches and plopped down beside Nishinoya who’d put his stuff by hers at the start of practice. It took all of her focus to not look at him, especially when she could see him sneaking peeks at her.
“Does anyone have plans for Christmas?” Daichi questioned further down the bench.
“Saeko’s forcing me to look at lights with her,” Tanaka’s shoulders slumped. “If I could just get a date I wouldn’t have to deal with her dragging me around.”
“I’m taking Natsu to see lights, too.” Hinata said, tossing a volleyball between his hands. “I don’t mind hanging out with her though.”
“That’s because the only thing you think about is volleyball, Hinata.” Ennoshita ruffled his hair and Hinata’s face turned red.
“Not true!”
“Nishinoya and Kaede are probably the only ones with actual plans.” Asahi chuckled, causing Nishinoya to choke on the water he’d been guzzling.
“Yeah, what are you guys doing?” Daichi asked.
Kaede looked over, surprised that so many of them were curious about her plans. “Um, I haven’t really thought about it yet. Lights are cool. Maybe food, who knows.”
“Seriously? You haven’t planned anything?” Asahi crossed his arms. “That doesn’t sound like Noya.”
Nishinoya looked between everyone panicked while Kaede’s eyes flickered toward a snickering Tanaka. “I mean, I don’t know what Noya’s doing. So, maybe he has plans?”
“I’m confused,” Hinata frowned. “Are you guys not hanging out on Christmas?”
“No,” Kaede felt warmth spreading across her cheeks. “Why would we-”
“Heh, good jokes guys.” Nishinoya grabbed her hand and pulled her off the bench. “We gotta go though, so I think that’s-”
“You’re dating though...” Hinata looked at Kageyama. “People hang out on Christmas when they’re dating, right?”
“Obviously, idiot.” He turned to Daichi and whispered. “They do, right?”
Daichi nodded.
Kaede’s jaw went slack at the accusation as Nishinoya continued to yank her toward the exit. “What? We’re not dating!” She tried to remain in place, but Nishinoya tugged harder. “Why would you think that?”
“Well, Nishinoya said you guys were in-”
“Wow, this has been a great time,” Nishinoya cut him off as they reached the door. “I really appreciate this guys. Unfortunately, we’re leaving. Have a good break or something...”
After he dragged her a good distance from the gymnasium she tugged her hand out of his strong grasp. “What the hell was that?”
“Not sure what you're talking about…”
“That!” She gestured wildly in the direction of the gym behind them. “They’re going to think we’re dating.”
Nishinoya facepalmed, “I promise you that doesn’t bother me.”
“What do you mean it doesn’t-” Kaede’s fists clenched as he continued walking without her. “Get back here!”
She caught up quickly and grabbed his hand, pulling him around to face her. He observed her scowl and furrowed his brow in frustration, attempting to pull his hand out of her grip.
“It doesn’t matter,” he claimed, avoiding her eyes, but Kaede knew that was bull shit. She tried to take a step closer, but he kept awkwardly stepping back until he hit a wall and a blush spread to his cheeks.
Kaede’s heart was in a frenzy at their position, but she wasn’t going to flake out now. She dropped his hand to place her’s beside his head so he couldn’t walk away from her anymore.
“Explain.” She demanded.
“Mizuki, it’s really hard to think when you’re pinning me against-”
“Try,” she narrowed her eyes at him. “You’re being weird.”
“I’m being weird?” His eyebrows rose in disbelief. “You've been acting weird all week!”
Kaede felt her cheeks warming as her confident facade wavered. “Well, that’s not what this is about. We’re talking about you here.”
He dragged a hand down his face before giving her a once-over, “do you actually not know?”
“Not know what?”
He glanced down nervously, “I like you, Mizuki.”
She blinked once. Twice. Then her arm fell limp to her side. “Oh,” she breathed out.
“Yeah, like, I really really really like you.”
“I-uh-heard the first time, Noya.” She said, staring at his feet. She supposed this had been what Tanaka meant by Noya was as stupid as she was.
“Right, sorry, it just felt really good to say.”
Kaede’s heart was pounding and she was surprised Nishinoya hadn’t pointed out the noise. It was so loud she couldn’t focus. Her stomach was rolling in that weird way again that she couldn’t tell was nausea or butterflies-maybe both.
“When did-”
“Shiratorizawa I guess...” His face scrunched in thought. “I mean, maybe before that. I don’t know, it feels so weird... “ He rubbed his chest. “A good weird. Just a different weird.”
She nodded understandingly. Nishinoya also made her feel all sorts of weird. He lifted his hand toward her face, but hesitated when he neared her cheek, dropping it back to his side.
Kaede frowned, staring longingly at the hand that normally wouldn’t have hesitated to hold her. She chewed the inside of her cheek before mustering up the courage to lace her fingers with his. Nishinoya’s eyes had watched her gaze carefully, tracking her intense stare with hopeful eyes.
He lightly swung their hands with a dopey smile. “You’re cute.”
“I’m not,” she furrowed her brow, a light blush painting her cheeks.
He pressed his forehead against hers with a mischievous glint in his eyes. “You are.”
Kaede pouted at how out of control her heart was at him simply squeezing her hand and from the almost cocky look in his eyes he could probably tell. Her eyes flickered down briefly and she raised her brow contemplatively.
“I feel like someone who wears a ribbon everyday has no right to claim that they aren’t-”
“Noya, I’m going to kiss you,” she interrupted.
His jaw went slack and he froze in disbelief. Kaede smirked slyly at the reaction she’d been hoping for as she guided his face closer, holding him a breath away.
He blinked back to reality, “are you sure? I mean I would love that so much, but are you absolutely sure? Because that’s like an actual thing that-”
Kaede closed the gap, pressing her lips against his to stop his rambling-whatever he’d been saying getting lost in their kiss. They had an awkward position at first, but once realization struck Nishinoya he quickly adjusted, sliding his hand up and tangling his fingers in her hair. She tried to remain focused, but as Nishinoya wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her close she couldn’t help the bubble of laughter that escaped her.
Nishinoya pulled back, embarrassment striking his face as he searched her eyes.
“You’re laughing,” he stated, slightly out of breath. “Was it bad? I’ve never kissed someone. It was bad, wasn’t it?
“No, it wasn’t-I just-,” she giggled, leaning forward hiding her face in his chest. It hadn’t been bad. The kiss had just been so Nishinoya-diving head first, putting everything into it with no experience. Kaede couldn’t help it.
Nishinoya cradled the side of her face and lifted her to face him, smiling at her with more affection than she’d ever thought capable. He ran his thumb along her bottom lip before leaning forward to capture her lips again. This time he went slowly, from pulling her close to the press of his lips everything felt thought out.
When he pulled back, rubbing his nose against hers he whispered, “better?”
“Uh-huh,” she squeaked, face a brilliant shade of pink.
“This is good, right?” He furrowed his brow in question. “Kissing is usually a good sign.”
Kaede’s lips quirked into a small smile as she pressed her forehead against his, eyes soft as they scoured his face. “Yeah,” she rubbed her thumb along his cheek. “It’s a really good sign.”
“Cool,” he smiled dopily, leaning against her touch. “So, wanna go out this weekend?”
Kaede rolled her eyes, giving him a quick peck.
“Is that a yes?”
“Nope,” she said, stepping back and walking away backward. He blinked a few times before following her.
“What do you mean no?” Nishinoya pouted.
She stuck her tongue out and pivoted around a smile forcing its way on her face when Nishinoya caught up, interlocking their hands together. “I guess I’ll think about it.”
“Think about it!?”
Kaede swung their hands happily as Nishinoya ranted to her about her audacity while she unknowingly walked him to the nearest ramen shop. She was hungry, so why wait for the weekend when they could just go out now?
She glanced over to Nishinoya’s pouting face as he listed off reasons he should be allowed a date and rolled her eyes. Kaede relished in the warmth consuming her chest as she listened to him, allowing herself the happiness she’d been pushing back for so long. This was nice.
Being with him like this… She liked this. She liked him.
And she was happy she had finally figured that out.
