This implies that finish fics! 🤣 But I do have a short fic titled "But I Must Admit it, I Would Marry you in an Instant," (SGA) which is from Todd's pov and had a very ambiguous ending!

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Again, endings🤣 I think it would be "All Bets Are Off" (SGA) because it ends with both Todd and John's lives drastically improved

Do you get hate on fics?

No, except for one time I got a comment on mine and my gf's shared Hanninbal fic that basically boiled down to "stop using ellipses, and make sure you tag for 'character bashing'" which we weren't actually doing. We were having Will make Hannibal's life miserable, but that was in the tags AND the summary.

Oh yeah😌 I write a lot of explicit stuff. It's all mlm as of now. I do a lot of light bondage stuff and a lot of blow jobs

My fic "Across the Universe" belongs to an extended universe that exists only in my head. I have plans for at least four other fics that will continue the story, but they are all huge projects. Since it's taken me three years to even come close to finishing the og fic, I doubt I'm ever gonna get it all out.

2019 Fic Retrospective

It’s that time of year again!

I’m still doing the thing where, for word count, I calculate word count both from fics written and pieces of meta over 500 words written. Because I did spend a fair amount of time on those meta, and in certain cases, they were the only thing I wrote that day.

Total Number of Completed Stories: 43 in total, and all of them were posted to my AO3. Of the 43, 41 are finished and 2 are WIPs. As to the WIPs, whether or not they’re going to be finished… that depends on some things.

Total Word Count:

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted? Quite a bit more. I set a yearly goal of 180,000 words (500 words a day over 360 days), and as you can see, I went way over that.

What’s your own favorite story of the year?

As with past years, I am going to do a Top 5 list, instead:

1. Of Rings and Knighthood and Their Associated Misunderstandings: At the time I wrote this, there were less than two pages worth of fic in the Dorothea/Ingrid tag, and I seriously thought this was going to be a reasonably light-hearted fic. Also, short. Ah, how times change.

2. Hungry Ice: Eldritch books cursed by angry Valar? In my office? It’s more likely than you think.

3. a narrative shape concealing the real thing inside: I just really enjoyed writing from Agnes’s perspective.

4. One of the Most Confounding: I finally got to write an aroace character in a non-amatonormative relationship with someone, natch.

5. would have wanted it for myself: This was originally just supposed to be a fic with the premise ‘what if Dorothea and Dimitri got a support chain,’ but then Dorothea took over, then it got really long, and it was super-fun to write.

Did you take any writing risks this year? Beyond the typical risks of writing multi-chapters, writing for small fandoms, and writing for new fandoms, no, I don’t think I did.

Do you have any fanfic or ofic goals for the New Year? Well, I would like to continue working towards my goal of just giving no fucks and writing whatever I want to write, regardless of whether or not I think it will be particularly well-received by the fandom. I’d also like to finish my two WIPs, if I can find the time (And the motivation).

My best story of this year: I’m just gonna pick something that isn’t on my Favorites list (It’s always a little hard to choose). I’m going to say A Blessing Sweet as Gall—it was my first time writing from the perspective of one of the King’s Men, and it went a lot better than I thought it would. I am sympathetic to the King’s Men up to a point, and that point is where they start instituting language bans and disappearing people and conducting forced migrations.

My most popular story of this year: Oh, that’s Of Rings and Knighthood and Their Associated Misunderstandings, hands down. In terms of hits, kudos, comment threads, and bookmarks, it far outstrips the rest. And I’m content with this. There were fics of mine that I wish had gotten more attention than they did, but I poured so much time and effort into this one that I’m glad it was a hit.

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe: At this point, I think it’s Face to Face, which is part of the reason I’m having such a hard time committing to coming back to it. I knew it wasn’t going to get as much traffic as a fic written for a large fandom and a popular ship would have done, but I spent months just plotting this thing out, and then to get so little feedback on it was disheartening.

Most fun story to write: I think that’s probably a tie between a narrative shape concealing the real thing inside, Not My Wheelhouse (I’m Trying Anyways), and Frail Memory.

Story with the single sexiest moment: Pfft.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Well, as of having finished The Sacred and Profane, I still consider Rhea a well-written villain, the archetypal “villain with a sympathetic backstory.” That has not changed. What has changed is that I now consider her experiments with creating children so she can kill them later even more screwed up than I originally thought they were, because the thought finally occurred to me late in the writing of this fic: she is eternally preoccupied with the murder and butchery of her mother and most of her siblings for their blood and bones and Crest stones, and she is going to end up butchering this kid’s corpse to get at the Crest stone in the kid’s body. Welp.

Hardest story to write: I’m not really sure. I think Fumbling Towards Understanding gave me a bit of trouble to write.

Biggest Disappointment: Celica vs. Deadbeat Parenting was a lot different in my head, just gotta say.

Biggest Surprise: I’m not sure it’s a surprise, exactly, since I had noticed on my playthrough of Echoes that Kliff is a lot milder around Alm than the only other person we see him talking with (Tobin) and, it’s implied, most everyone else, but I don’t think shippy feelings entered into it until I was actually writing the fic, so your heartstrings are covered in rust.

I happen to have 2 wips right now and a second one outlined enough to promo, so this is good timing!

WIP 1: Cait ended up at the forge with Wade and Harren, cutting leather strips to wrap sword hilts and make straps and lining for armor. It wasn’t especially difficult work, but involved enough to keep her attention and keep her mind in the present. She watched the people in the courtyard as she worked. Once the carts were loaded and on their way, the atmosphere changed to something heavier. Everyone moved purposefully, training or inventorying or carrying things. As the sun was setting and she stepped away from the forge to head inside, she finally figured out what was so familiar about it. 

It felt like Redcliffe after the Landsmeet. The Vigil was preparing for war.

Description: Something Might Be Found follows Warden-Commander Cait Cousland through Awakening as she reunites with her childhood sweetheart Nathaniel Howe and solves Amaranthine's darkspawn problem.

Why you should look forward to it: Big things coming! The war against the Architect and the Mother is coming to a head! Cait finally said 'I love you' in the last chapter! A dramatic reunion with an old friend! I actually have most of the rest of the story written at this point except for a bit of touch up and I'm really excited about the next few chapters, both with the story and with Cait/Nate's relationship developments.

WIP 2: (I don't have a decently-sized paragraph, so have a dialogue snippet instead)

"Since you're here, I would like a word with you." Anora stared at her, inscrutable as always.

Cait grinned to hide her sudden unease. "Am I in trouble? Because it kind of sounds like I'm in trouble."

Anora laced her fingers together on her desk and said calmly, "When I requested you find a healthier way to spend your evenings than getting in bar fights, I did not mean to imply you should start having sex with my father."

Cait studied the queen, trying to read anything in her expression. She didn't seem angry, but beyond that she couldn't tell what she was thinking. Hoping she was reading this right, Cait kept her grin firmly in place and said cheekily, "You didn't explicitly tell me not to have sex with your father."

"I'll endeavor to be more specific in the future," Anora said dryly.

Description: So-far-unnamed sequel to Yield, with actual plot! An alternate universe in which Cait is a Warden but not the Warden-Commander (that would be my mage Carah Amell, I may have some meta in progress for the differences in the universes). Anora gets word of a plot against her and sends Cait and Loghain to investigate. They have to navigate Orlesian politics and their growing feelings for each other to stop the plot before it's too late.

Why you should look forward to it: Fake married! Mutual pining! Court intrigue! What's not to love? I've legit always wanted to write something like this. It's still in the very early stages (which for me means I’ve written about 6k words but it’s super disjointed and none of it fits together yet), but I'm excited about it and having a lot of fun writing it!

WIP 3: Does not yet have a name and is so far just an outline, but it will be a sequel to Something Might Be Found! I was originally going to just make SMBF really, really long, but decided it would be better to split it into 2 parts.

Description: Things never stay quiet for long. Follows Cait, Nate, and co through the events of Dragon Age 2 and Inquisition. Friends go missing, new friends are made, and Cait continues her search for a cure for the taint.

Why you should look forward to it: The mage/templar war and the Breech from an outsider's perspective. You’ll get to meet Evie Hawke and Bran Trevelyan, whom I love (almost) as much as Cait. Perfectly normal drama like trying to start a family set on a backdrop of war and near-armageddon. Plus, more Cait/Nate and that's never a bad thing!

What are the themes of some of your current WIPs?

So you want to know my WIPs huh? Well alright then!

But man, having multiple WIPS is a both good and bad cause I don’t know which to finish and I have to really rely on my brain and willpower to write at least one sentence! I should really keep a notepad of my plans for these WIPS...but anyways here are some of the fics I have been working on!

1. With Feeling

My first HanMei smut fic. This is basically their first time, and there’s going to be a bunch of feelings involved as the two seal their eternal love and step into tomorrow as a lovely couple. (I’m having trouble trying to write the buildup though, and don’t know if I should just skip to the part where they do it...some suggestions/help would be appreciated!)

2. Demonic Bond

I’m probably gonna change the title, but it’s an HanMei AU featuring Demon Hanzo and Jiangshi Mei as they meet one night and survive together while being hunted by demon hunters. Once they escape, they meet each other again on that same night a year later, and bond some more. With this I’m exploring more ways that the two can give love and affection to each other than kissing.

3. Jacket

A 2 part HanMei fic in how Hanzo and Mei got their first official date, thanks to Hana and Lúcio. Hanzo buys new clothes (see Casual Hanzo) and wants to show Mei as he has a secret crush on her, but Mei is too flustered to talk to him because she’s too shy and also she has a crush on him too. Bothered by their fears to talk to each other, Hana and Lúcio steal Hanzo’s black jacket and puts it in Mei’s lab, forcing them to talk to each other and well...the rest is history.

4. An Azure Star In The Night Sky

A HanMei Soulmate(?) and Monster Hunter World AU(slightly) that features the Tale Of The Five in Monster Hunter World. Set a month after Dragons, Hanzo is injured badly, but remembers the Tale Of The Five his father had told Genji and him about, and survives long enough for a stranger to find him and tend to him. When he awakens and learns more about his rescuer, they begin to bond, and learn of each other’s struggles in their lives. When he finds out that she also follows the same tale that Hanzo had remembered, he and the stranger decide to travel together, guided by the Sapphire Star that gives them the strength to carry onward. This fic was simply a cool idea I had, thanks to me grinding the hell out of Monster Hunter World and learning of this tale in the game.

5. What He Would Have Done

A title that I’m probably going to change soon but it’s a McSombra fic where McCree is already dead and Sombra is the only one that knows about it and how he died. On top of that, Sombra is still wreathed in guilt and sadness from his death so with this fic her behavior is majorly tuned/changed from the constant teaser to a serious but depressed and sensitive girl, always carrying McCree’s Peacekeeper, hat, and red serape around, except on missions. When on a mission with Talon, Reaper finds out about the death of McCree and well...I’ll leave it there for you guys to think.

6. Fingers In The Moonlight

A platonic WidowHanzo fic where Widowmaker is no longer, but the reverted Amélie Lacroix still holds the memories of her life as the assassin and seeks comfort, and who to seek comfort than none other than the man who went through the same (sort of) event that changed his life. This is more of a platonic fic where Amélie and Hanzo at the moment are not interested in a romantic relationship, but realize they can be good friends.

Themes: PTSD, Blood, Comfort, Emotional Breakdown

7. Rise Up

The inspiration for this Gency fic came from @ribbons-halos’s Sentai and Pink Mercy AU where Angela is diagnosed with an unknown strain of breast cancer and dies after months of fighting alongside Sentai Genji, loving him, and taking medicine to help slow the progress of the unfortunate disease. Genji, in distraught and grief of her death, is visited by Hanzo, who urges him to continue on fighting as Sentai, as that is what Angela would have wanted.

The fic will mostly be told in flashbacks, highlighting keypoints in Genji and Angela’s superhero life, from their first meetings, to their love confessions to each other, up to the point where Angela dies from her breast cancer. There will also be a slight/implied HanMei in there, just because.

Themes: Depression, Flashbacks, Brotherly Comfort, Moving On

Okay, so.... I’ve got four things in progress right now.   And they’re all kind of a mess, so I’m not sure seven lines would even be consecutive. 

I’m gonna use the Bardock fic, since that’s got the strongest start, and the seven lines actually seem reasonably coherent.

"Don't listen to 'em, Toteppo," said Seripa as she patted him on the arm.   "Your cooking's fine.  Better than anything the rest of us could manage, or we'd be doing it ourselves."

By humanoid standards, a woman of Seripa's shape and features might have been considered conventionally attractive.   Like the others, she wore form-fitting armor that flattered their powerful physiques, and she had an earring on her right ear that implied a sense of aesthetics to balance her warrior's attire.   At first glance, an onlooker might have found such an aesthetic to be exotic or adventurous, but such an illusion would be shattered up close.    To meet Seripa in person was to smell the stench of dried blood in her hair, and the odor of viscera on her breath.  There was nothing mysterious or captivating about the steely gaze in her dark eyes; her expression was merely a warning to any who would dare to cross her.  

Toteppo grumbled at her compliment and made a half-hearted shrug.  

"It's not about the cooking," Toma insisted.   The others regarded him skeptically until he added: "Okay, I miss her cooking, but it's not just that.   She was good for morale."

"That's true enough," Panbukin said.  "Right about now she'd be telling us how great we did in the battle last night."

"Or going on about her brats," Seripa said.   "I wouldn't mind hearing how Raditz is doing."

"I can tell you how he's doing," Toma said.   "The little guy's eating better than we are."

I’m reluctant to post seven lines from my Caulifla/Kale story, because with any luck I aim the post the whole thing very soon, but this excerpt is mostly abour Dr. Rota, so let’s run with it.

Still, despite their miraculous reprieve, Universe 6 had still lost the game.   The team had fought hard, but they simply lacked the power to cope with their opponents.  Dr. Rota was especially frustrated, since he was eliminated from the tournament by Vegeta before he had gotten a chance to show off his true abilities.    This was what had brought him to Parnassan III.

"After we were brought back from erasure, your fellow Saiyans expressed a desire to continue training," Rota went on.    "This got me to thinking.    Perhaps the gods will hold other tournaments in the future."

"Maybe," Cabba said.   His dark eyes kept darting around, as if he were waiting for something to happen.   Rota paid no attention.    So great was Rota's love for his own voice that he cared little if anyone else heard him.  

"Naturally, you three would want to catch up to your Universe 7 counterparts," Rota said.    "That odd fellow, Son Goku, and Vegeta.    I have a score to settle with him.    Well, I don't mean to make it sound like a grudge.   More of a friendly rivalry, if you will.    Perhaps not exactly friendly.   I'd like to humiliate him, if at all possible."

"Yeah," Cabba said.  

"So I contacted the Sadala Defense Force to look you up, and they told me you were here.   I must say, this is an ideal training spot you've chosen.   No sapient life forms, plenty of open space, a wide variety of environments and climates to challenge both mind and body.   Nothing but me and three Super Saiyans.    A fine place to hone my skills."

"Uh-huh," Cabba said.  

This other thing I’ve got is an X-Men bit that probably needs a lot more work.   Mostly, it’s just dialogue that I was going to flesh out later.   But here ya go.

"Nope.    Sorry to worry you."

"No it's okay.   I'm actually kind of... Did you just apologize for something?"

"Yeah, so?"

"Well, I guess you really have changed," Cecilia said.    

"Life is change, healer," Sarah said.  "I really didn't mean to surprise you."   She pointed at one of the lengths of bone on her back.   "I didn't think dropping by during the day would be a good idea."

"I understand," Cecelia said.   "But you never asked for medical help before.    From what I can tell you heal almost as quickly as Logan."

"Relax, doc," Sarah said.   "It's just a social call.    Thought I'd be friendly like all the respectable X-Men."

Basically, I learned that Dr. Reyes never quite left the X-Men’s neighborhood, so it might be cute to have Marrow drop by her place unannounced.  But I’m not sure if I want to set this before or after Marrow got zapped by the Alan Davis Ray. 

Just as a bonus, I’ll toss in paragraphs seven and eight from Luffa #87, since they’re ominous and perhaps the only two paragraphs that don’t spoil a bunch of stuff.

As she chewed on a ration bar, she glanced up at the main viewer occasionally.   It was set to display a continuous readout on the sensor sweeps and life sign readings she had requested.   She had an hour before she would fire her pistol on the bridge again, and she hoped that she could knock out two more chapters of the novel she was working on.  

She was not alone.

I got tagged by @clotpolesonly, thank you so much, Jessica! I looooove talking about my things (because it’s so much easier than actually writing them haaa), so here we go:

1) the first Pigtails sequel: yesss, this is actually happening!!! It’s what I started working on this week, let’s see how far this current bout of motivation carries me^^° I’ve got plans for this fic, but the first scene already derailed them a bit, so we’ll see how it actually ends up in the end (and how long!) also, Pigtails is close to 1k kudos on AO3, yay :DD (current length: 1.410 words)

2) I started a Simon & Garfunkel Sterek AU at the beginning of the year and then got stuck and didn’t write anything for two weeks oops, but I’m hoping that after a bit of Stackson I’ll be able to come back to that one, because I think it could end up being a really nice fic^^ (current length: 2.286 words)

3) the Resurrection fic!!!! It is so far what it says on the tin - Stiles figures out how to resurrect werewolves, and well, canon does give us a few candidates to try this out, doesn’t it? So resurrection shenanigans is the focus of what I have so far, with some hints at slow burn Sterek, and somehow sneakily, an accidental soul bond accidentally worked its way into the story, so that’s probably what the next part of the fic is going to focus on (current length: 21.805 words)

these are the ones that can actually be called WIP’s as in there’s actual words on a page and I’ve got firm plans to add more^^° But I’ve got a few more projects that I’m just gonna list here as well, because perhaps telling you guys about them is going to make me actually write/finish them!

First, the WIP’s that are just about abandoned:

1) Stormy Waters, to be free: I got a nice comment on this fic at the beginning of this year and it actually made me want to go back and finish this fic - my issue is just that it’s been so long since I started writing this that I feel as though my writing’s developed so much, that I’d actually prefer to edit the whole thing. Only I started (once I found the original file^^°) on that and I only made it one paragraph because it felt so cringey?! So now I don’t know whether I should just write the last few chapters and ignore the first ones or whether I should bite the bullet and actually rewrite it?! But while I try to decide that it’s still lying there sad and abandoned... (current length: 16.804 words)

2) the Sciles fic: honestly, pretty much everything that I said about Stormy waters is true for this fic, too. It’s been a long time since I first started writing it, so my style of writing is different now, which means editing which I haaate, which means I’m not writing anything^^° plus another issue, but I don’t want to have the stans yelling in my inbox before I even post the fic, so let’s just leave it at another issue *sighs* (current length: 19.822 words)

There’s also a few “false start” fics, ones which I started which never went anywhere, but which don’t really count as WIP’s as I’m not sure I’ll ever continue working on them, so I’ll not list those.

And last, but not least are my WIP’s that don’t have actual words on a page yet, but lots of ideas and love. These are the fics that “I’M GOING TO WRITE ONE DAY” and hopefully that day is sooner rather than later!^^°

1) the sequels: I finally got started on the first Pigtails sequel, which is great, but as “first” implies, there’s plans for another installment after that one, so we’ll see how that progresses after the fic I’m currently writing. The other sequel that’s definitely happening is the sequel to Fully Grown - I’m still working on fully plotting that out, and then I’ll hopefully actually get writing! There’s a few more fics people have asked me to continue, but there’s no clear cut plans for those sequels yet

2) the giveaway fics: shame on me, I still owe two giveaway fics and honestly, I do keep forgetting about them, which makes me a very bad writer and giveawayer, but I haven’t completely forgotten about them yet, so I promise they’ll come into existence eventually!! *hides*

3) the twerking Derek alternate universe fic: as ridiculous as that working title goes, this fic will probably actually end up quite angsty!^^° It is based on a prompt by jerakeenc and ficlets inspired by that prompt (all posted looooooooong ago), and I do actually have a few scenes for that one written! It’s going to be an alternate universe, Hales are alive, the Sheriff is not, Stallison adopted siblings trained as hunters, Derek/Kira bffs, and of course Sterek fic and seriously, if that doesn’t sound awesome, then we obviously have very different ideas of awesome!! Either way, I think it’s going to be awesome when I actually get around to writing it :p

4) and last, but not least, one fic I’ve been promising Clara for aaaages, the “Stiles is Cassandra” fic, that is Stiles tells the truth, but no one believes him, as with Cassandra of Troy. It’s probably going to be more fairy tale than epic myth style, though, not least because I vastly prefer the “and they lived happily ever after” ending to the “and now let’s kiiiiiiill” stuff in my fic!^^°
