To be entirely weird about a kids' book series for a minute

is it just me or is the ending to The Prochecies Begin (Warriors, Erin Hunter).... like.... strange as hell.

Tigerstar was an effective villain, especially for a fucking cat. He was smart, he planned well, he knew how to use the trust Bluestar had in him, and the trust the rest of everyone in his Clan had of him to get what he wanted.

But like... I think back on TPB, and think not really of how truly threatening and dangerous Tigerstar was, but of the weird shit that happened in book six.

Scourge really felt like he came out of nowhere, and then just... killed Tigerstar. The Villain, who had been endlessly terrorizing our hero, the forest, and almost gotten away with it, was just...... killed. Not even climactically. Slashed, left to bleed each of his nine lives onto the dirt while all watched in horror, so a new, badder villain could take over the final fight, and one we had literally been introduced to in that book.

I think Scourge could have been a more effective twist villain if ha had been set up more form the beginning- if there had been some hint that there was this cat.

who.... also wasn't really that dangerous I feel like? Scourge was a normal cat in most every way. He wasn't as threatening to me as Tigerstar, and I really didn't feel motivated to watch him be defeated, especially when the villain that had been build up for five books was just unceremoniously killed off for him. We had no connection to Scourge, we hadn't been seeing his misdeeds through the hero's eyes the whole series, knowing that he had to be stopped.

Scourge felt very nothing.

i’m very baffled by the logistics of how lucanis’ early act 2 companion quest bloodbath ended. he was unconscious, right? and we’ve all just been fighting waist deep in blood? did we carry him back to the cantori diamond eluvian through the streets covered in that much blood. because i have to believe you’re not getting an unconscious man across those ziplines. did anyone say anything or do people in treviso just live like this. was everyone at the diamond just like yeah another working day at crow hq nothing to see here

imogen fumbling shit is just eternally good fodder for memes, alright. and its at least partly BECAUSE of how powerful she is. someone tripping while using a nerf gun? funny. someone dramatically hoisting up an outfit matchin heavy death laser gun and then immediately tripping and landing on their face? phenom. sometimes she goes "GROVEL" and the enemies grovel and we all go "oooooh" and "aaaahhh" and sometimes she just gets fully ignored and gets so huffy and petulant and ineffectually burns a cantrip just to be petty about it. sometimes she smites her enemies into dust with one move and renders a tree in half after threatening and other times she fucking. falls down a flight of stairs and accidentally sets everything on fire. fires a gun at her own team. loses all her hair. turns blue. etc.

Imogen lifts a humongous sand squid into the sky with her mind powers. Imogen is also falling out of a sky ship and landing on the desert sand far below and just. lying there. while her friend plays the flute in the background. epic hot failgirls NEED the HEIGHT to FAIL FROM. u gotta swing and miss sometimes!!! AND you gotta be REAL petty about it when u miss!!!! fucking fantastic.

do i have any sort of positive hope for changing skies and moonpaw's story? nnno. do i fucking love the idea of the chimera embryo absorbed in the womb becoming another voice/consciousness/spirit in moonpaw's life? yyyes. if her story doesn't pan out in a well-written makes-sense way will i be 100% stealing the idea? aaalso yes.

Do you think Hydaelyn kept track of Azem’s soul as it got reincarnated over the eons, searching for the face she knew from Elpis, growing weary as the centuries and millennia passed? That each time she gave them her blessing she got slowly weaker and weaker, until your Wol was born and she knew her time would soon be over but yours was just beginning.

I just think it’s nice that not only are we her favorite because we’re Azem, but because we’re this particular reincarnation of Azem that she knows and has been looking forward to.
