Shadowlands au where instead of dissolving, Arthas's soul just sorta merged with Anduin and now the poor guy has this grim specter of death that only he can see following him around everywhere he goes, encouraging him to pick up every cursed item he finds and talking in cryptic riddles about horses and unforgivable crimes

Originally a Ranger of Silvermoon, Nixxie died the first time in Arthas's attack on her people, being raised as a Banshee with her sisters in their last stand near Fairbreeze; one of the original Dark Rangers of the Forsaken, she was a devoted follower of the Banshee-Queen and a skilled soldier and assassin--ultimately driven by duty and loyalty, when she died for the second time as a result of the Fall of Dalaran over Dornogal, she first found herself in Revendreth for her crimes, but later in Bastion, where she became a Kyrian Watcher-of-Souls, able to provide comfort and companionship in the final moments of the dead in a way she never had.

Which is extremely sweet and a good high note for her arc I feel. She's in a really good place, and her devotion is now being applied to helping others, instead of just her superiors in the Forsaken. She has a task, and a way to help people through that task.

...but that doesn't stop her from being very horny in her free time. Have you ever done it in mid-air with a ten foot tall buff blue woman with wings? She has.

I know she's divisive, but Jaina Proudmoore is truly The Most Character of all time. She had sexist magic rules changed in her early teens. Her boyfriend broke up with her twice and the second time was because she wouldn't commit genocide with him. She built a city of refugees when she was like 25. She was exiled from her home country for helping kill her own father so that he wouldn't commit genocide. She loves to make sarcastic jokes and is the living embodiment of 'not to worry i have a permit' 'this just says i can do what i want'. She and one of her best friends hated each other half the time until he died. She once tried to kill her other best friend. People were upset with her for being angry and traumatized when the city she built was annihilated. She fucked a dragon. She almost committed genocide and her allies were more angry about the fact that she once gave some money to her adoptive nephew's friend. She's switched back and forth between political sides three different times. Her mother nearly executed her for treason. She was handed the leadership of her home country that she hadn't lived in since she was a young child. She now spends all her free time with her work husband from like 25 years ago even though he has a wife and two kids. Who is doing it like her

forever and always bitter about how anduin got magically cured from his arthasfication in shadowlands ... i mean yeah the mental issues & trauma are there (somehow...shoutout to tww) but i mean physically!!

what if he lost his heartbeat and it didn't come back after his boss fight. no matter what he does his pulse isn't there, he doesn't know how he's standing and that's scary. what is he now? is he alive? is he dead? will he age? or will he rot on his own two feet like a forsaken? if that's the case, how much time does he have left? is he a ticking time bomb or will he be here long after his other shorter-life-span friends & adopted family die (assuming he even manages to make it that far)

granted, his mawsworn design in shadowlands was more a visual shorthand to the players that he was Evil Now than anything, he was just as alive as before, just possessed. he could seemingly be swapped between his original looking self and mawsworn self in the kyrestria cutscene? but i digress, the pale skin & hair? the blank eyes? Surely something had to have gone wrong with the amount of time he was stuck like that

The Bolvar and Sylv fight really is so insane simply because the job of the Lich King is to mind control the undead and Bolvar just patently never tried doing that and then impaling her on saronite.

honestly shadowlands is just one of those things where i'm not sure non-WoW players will ever understand just how fucking catastrophic it was without like. at minimum 10 hours of in-depth analysis summarizing its effect on the playerbase at every possible level. shadowlands was a work of art in the genre of how not to make an MMO expansion. shadowlands was an evil nefarious fucked up and twisted awful miracle. anyone who ever compares any FFXIV expansion to shadowlands just straight-up wasn't around for shadowlands
