It actually makes a fair amount of sense—if the Great Intelligence entered the Doctor’s timestream wearing the face of Walter Simeon, then the Doctor would end up seeing Walter Simeon’s face a LOT. Who’s to say he didn’t pick it up along the way?

Dumb Doctor Who Theory

We know that the Doctor frequently borrows faces from people he has met. For instance:

Obviously, Lobus Caecilius became the basis for Twelve

That one random Time Lord who became the basis for Six

The Victorian-Era Mancini’s Patron who got turned into a droid and was apparently the basis for Eleven (Twelve pulls off a Matt Smith mask during Deep Breath, which clearly came from a human)

So, with that in mind, as we now know that the Shalka Doctor is canon (somehow), I’d like to propose an idea: Shalka Nine got his face from the Great Intelligence.

Thinking of the general feeling towards Shirley Blythe, and how it is basically one of injustice or a perceived lack of familial closeness (with Anne, especially), as demonstrated in his neglected narrative and etc, but… I find that I can just never really agree with that. Besides fully believing that Shirley and his brothers all are meant to illustrate/embody different types of servicemen’s attitudes towards war (Jem leaves as the optimistic hero, Walter as a white flame of sacrifice, and Shirley… as rep of the silent [which we are meant to feel] duty of the masses, that are cared about by more than just their mothers [see: Susan]), there’s also this passage in Rilla of Ingleside where the text aligns Anne’s reluctance to let him go to that of Benjamin from the Bible:

The age-old cry—"Joseph is not and Simeon is not; and ye will take Benjamin away."

Understanding the obvious and driving implication of much being asked for and taken from mothers by War, Benjamin was a known favourite son (second to Joseph ofc, but the Biblical text implies that high favour falling on Benjamin too). For anyone unfamiliar, really briefly, Benjamin was the brother of Joseph, and the last son of Jacob and his much beloved wife Rachel (there were 13 children and 2 wives in this family btw). Rachel had a difficult labour, and died shortly after bringing Benjamin into the world. Similarly, Anne nearly died bringing Shirley, her own last son, into the world. For me, I guess I just feel this cannot be a coincidental, especially since LMM, a lifelong Christian and a Ministers wife, surely knew this story well, and also wasn’t exactly one to throw in a reference to scripture without first looking both ways. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

gay drama between simeon solomon and swinburne and the only reason i found out was because fucking walter pater (great prose, terrible Source) was in the rage inducing habit of describing a painting but not naming it OR THE ARTIST 》 but i knew which painting i meant anyways because he said exhibition 1868 "hebrew painter" which i immediately recognised as talking about simeon solomon's bacchus due to crazy insane, and then i got distracted looking as his paintings, saw swinburne commentary on one, thought the description fucked severly so i tried to find the source, it was some lit mag from 18something called Dark Blue on archive org. Couldn't find his review in it, went to the sineon solomon org site, found out about the gay drama which it seems was started because of the very review by Swinburne which I thought fucjed. So, I imagine in some OC stories, Rogue will not be kissing the Doctor. In Alex's story, however, I think he will. And, well . . . let's just say, with the Doctor and Alex's jealous tendencies, a scene will be made, possibly a bigger one than poor Rogue bargained for, lol. I almost want to go for a kind of River situation there, with Rogue clearly being attracted to the Doctor within five seconds of them meeting, but the Doctor continually going, "Uh, I'm happily married, thank you" while Alex glares daggers in the background, lol.

As for the Shalka Doctor, I can definitely see several OCs going, "Uh, when the hell did you look like Richard E. Grant?" or, in some cases, "Why is Walter Simeon/the Great Intelligence in there?" I think some of them will chalk it up to the Timeless Child or, possibly, the Toymaker messing with the Doctor's reality (as there are currently theories that that is why the Shalka Doctor appears in the hologram lineup).

Ben inteso: questi giovanotti non mancano d'impegno ma sembrano solo un vago ricordo di coloro che giusto un anno fa ipotecavano lo scudetto vinto poi con 15 punti di distacco . Forse tra impegni delle nazionali e Coppe hanno speso tutto mentalmente? Certo, un calciatore come Gaetano che arriva a Cagliari e fa due grandi partite fa pensare.
