5 THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE WALL-MOUNTING A TV
The great thing about wall-mounted TV is that you can save an amazing amount of floor space and they can be easily positioned at a comfortable viewing level. Now read on and consider these 5 points for a hassle-free installation process:
1. PINPOINTING THE RIGHT LOCATION:
The first thing to consider is the location of the wall-mounted TV.
The convenient position for a TV is directly opposite the sofa or opposite a bed in the bedroom. In fact, it’s hard to imagine any other position. But make sure you pick a wall that does not receive sunlight. When sunlight on the screen creates glare, watching TV can be a real pain. Picking the right location also goes for the power outlet, so that the TV can be plugged in with ease.
2. THE RIGHT HEIGHT OF A WALL-MOUNTED TV:
The height of a TV is determined by three things:
* Size of the TV.
* Eye level of the viewer
* Viewing distance
Remember, the diagonal measurement of the screen determines the TV's size.
The general rule to follow is this: The center of the TV should be mounted at a height of 42 inches from floor level.
Often, a TV is viewed from more than one direction. In that case, a pivoting wall-mount is perfect.
3. SURVEY THE STRENGTH OF THE WALL:
You should be absolutely sure that the wall is strong enough to take the load of the wall-mounted TV. Some TVs come with a mount and screws which can be efficiently used to wall-mount the TV. The wall mount can also be purchased separately from brands that are approved by the TV manufacturer. Failing to ensure the wall will be disastrous for both the wall and the TV.
4. CONCEAL THE WIRING FOR A NEATER LOOK:
Exposed Television cords can stick out like a sore thumb amongst the rest of the decor. So keep a clutter-free look by concealing the wiring.
If you live in a rented apartment, it's quite possible that you won't be allowed to tamper with the walls. In that case, you can cover the exposed wires with paintable conduits.
Otherwise, a great option for a homeowner is to have the brick wall chipped to accommodate the concealed wiring and be finished with plaster and paint.
Another option for you is to design a wall cabinet or a built-in wall unit made of plywood or MDF.
5. Organized STORAGE MAKES FOR A HASSLE-FREE VIEWING EXPERIENCE:
A Television set comes with many other things like a set-top box, remote controls, DVD player and a stack of DVDs of course. So, organizing a good storage space around the TV is really important. If you do a clever job with the organizing, you'll end up with a storage space that will not just be functional but will integrate really well with the room decor.
Keep in mind that the set-top box emits heat, which is why it should be placed in an open shelf, or within a closed cabinet that has provision for ventilation. This will prevent electronic stuff from overheating.

These are the scrap pieces of metal that I am using. Left to right, 2"x1/8" channel, old piece of 3/4" metal gas pipe, standing up together are two pieces of 2"x3/16" flat bar, and old 7/8" solid axle, and finally some 1.5"x.5"x1/4" angle.
