What are the benefits of curtains over blinds?
Tumblr media
Curtains and blinds are both popular window treatments, each with its own set of advantages. The choice between curtains and blinds often depends on individual preferences, the style of the space, and specific functional requirements. Here are some benefits of curtains over blinds:
Versatility in Style: Curtains come in a wide variety of fabrics, patterns, and styles, offering a high level of customization. This versatility allows homeowners to choose curtains that complement the overall design of the room, ranging from classic and elegant to modern and eclectic.
Enhanced Aesthetics: Curtains have a softer and more flowing appearance compared to blinds, which can contribute to a cozier and more inviting atmosphere. The fabric and design of curtains can be used to create a focal point or add a touch of luxury to a room.
Better Light Control: While blinds offer precise control over the angle of incoming light, curtains provide more options for adjusting the overall ambiance. With curtains, you can easily block out or filter light, allowing for a greater range of lighting effects to suit different moods and occasions.
Improved Insulation: Curtains made from heavier fabrics or with added lining can provide better insulation compared to blinds. This insulation helps in regulating room temperature by preventing heat loss during colder months and minimizing heat gain in warmer weather, contributing to energy efficiency.
Sound Absorption: Soft and thick curtain fabrics have natural sound-absorbing properties, helping to reduce noise levels inside a room. This is particularly advantageous in spaces with hard surfaces, where sound tends to bounce and echo.
Easier Maintenance: Curtains are generally easier to clean and maintain compared to blinds. Most curtains can be removed and washed, making it simpler to keep them fresh and free from dust and allergens.
Cost-Effectiveness: In many cases, curtains can be a more cost-effective option than blinds, especially when considering custom-made window treatments. Ready-made curtains are widely available and can be a budget-friendly choice for those looking to enhance their home decor without a significant investment.
Child and Pet Safety: Curtains pose fewer safety hazards for children and pets compared to some types of blinds with cords. Cordless curtain options or curtains with tiebacks are safer alternatives, eliminating the risk of entanglement.
Ease of Installation: Installing curtains is often simpler than installing blinds, making them a more accessible option for DIY enthusiasts. There's no need for complex mechanisms or precise measurements, and curtains can be easily hung from a curtain rod.

my family is fucking addicted to macgyvering and it's becoming a problem. every time something in this house breaks, instead of doing the sensible thing of replacing it or calling someone qualified to fix it, we all group around the offending object with a manic look in our eyes and everyone gets a try at fixing it while being cheered on or ridiculed by the rest.
it's a beautiful bonding activity, but the "creative" fixes have turned our house into a quasihaunted escape room like contraption where everything works, but only in the wonkiest of ways. you need a huge block of iron to turn on the stove. the oven only works if a specific clock is plugged in. the bread machine has a huge wood block just stapled to it that has become foundational to its function. sometimes when you use the toaster the doorbell rings. and that's just the kitchen.
it's all fun and games until you have guests over and you have to lay out the rules of the house like it's a fucking board game. welcome to the beautiful guest room. don't pull out the couch yourself you need a screwdriver for that, and that metal rod makes the lamp work so don't move it. it also made me a terrifying roommate in college, because it makes me think i can fix anything with enough hubris and a drill. you want to call the landlord about a leaky faucet? as if. one time my dad made me install a new power socket because we ran our of extension cords

this pride, i learnt about the Palestinian trans woman Oscar Al-Halabiye, dancer and resistance fighter against the israeli occupation in Southern Lebanon. she named herself Oscar after Lady Oscar from the "The Rose of Versailles", a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Riyoko Ikeda.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
her story is documented in Cinema Fouad(1993). zionists use pink washing to reinforce their genocidal terrorist narrative when queer Palestinians have been fighting against the occupation since the very beginning. you can watch it here with english subtitles. long live the intifada!
