Right now, it's Putin vs Wagner Chief Yevgeny Prigozhin.

Wagner was "Putin's chef".

Let me tell you in short how much more dangerous Wagner is to Putin. Besides hacking every civilian TV in Russia, Wagner's mercenaries began attacking Putin's military and they have successfully taken over two bases. Some of Putin's military are surrendering. Nobody had any warning and usually there is one just like when Putin's started attacking Ukraine. They knew he was going to attack even though he said he wasn't. (Hell, we had warning about 9/11.) But this tells you how loyal Wagner's men are to him. Wagner is telling Russian civilians:

"Stay inside your homes. This is between us and Putin."

But he's also telling Russian civilians they can join him. Russian citizens are asking Wagner's men to leave before their cities are destroyed like what happened with Ukraine. Putin is pissed and calling Wagner out for "Mutiny". Putin has ordered his military to destroy Wagner. Now you maybe wondering, how the hell did Wagner pull this shit off. This man had office power before Putin. He had billions to spend on a whole ass army. He knows where every bunker is too. Putin can't hide. Wagner's mercenaries are marching toward Moscow.

Wagner is taking no deal with Putin. I hope NATO is taking notes.

Wagner Group founder Yevgeny Prigozhin has vowed to defy an order from Russia’s Defense Ministry to fall under the regular army’s command—and he now says he’ll take other defectors under his wing to build the mercenary group’s ranks.

His comments, perhaps the biggest indication yet of a potential military coup, come after Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu signed a decree mandating all volunteer fighters to sign a contract with the ministry by July 1. The move is widely seen as a bid to centralize military control and limit Prigozhin’s influence in the war after he spent months airing the dirty laundry of Russian infighting and, most recently, was accused of having his fighters routinely abduct and torture regular Russian troops.

But according to Prigozhin, it all boils down to jealousy. Shoigu, he said, “can’t stand anybody who does something better than he does. And that’s why everyone is supposed to lick his boots. Wagner has never done that.”

He went on to say the mercenary group was already taking in volunteers who don’t want to answer directly to the Defense Ministry.

“Volunteer units are contacting us. We are taking them into our ranks as separate assault detachments and building them into our general command and control system, in which we cover them with artillery, aviation, provide intelligence and everything that is necessary,” he said via his press service.

Separately, he accused the country’s Defense Ministry of repeatedly attempting to “destroy” the mercenary group.

“We’re not just talking about some kind of interference, but about deliberate, physical destruction. Both then and now,” he said, claiming top military brass intentionally failed to inform Wagner of an impending U.S. airstrike in Syria in 2018 that killed several of the group’s mercenaries.

More recently, he said, the Defense Ministry “tried to close [Wagner mercenaries in Bakhmut] without any ammunition.”

Prigozhin claimed he confronted Shoigu about the first incident at an event in the Kremlin in 2018. “I approached him and asked: ‘Can I talk to you about the situation that occurred on February 8 near Deir ez-Zor?’ He turned, calmly and arrogantly replied: ‘You wanted to be a hero? You played the hero. All the heroes are here now, in this hall,’ he said, casting his hand over those in expensive suits. “And you were just out of line.’”

Of Russia’s top military brass, he said, “They wore beautiful epaulets, but Wagner won in all countries of the world. This is where the jealousy comes from.”

The latest phase in the Prigozhin vs. Shoigu feud comes as ordinary Russians have reportedly shown more interest in the mercenary boss than President Vladimir Putin. The independent outlet Verstka reported Tuesday that in May, Russians searched the internet for information on Prigozhin twice as much as they did for Putin.

So 5th edition (the current one, Legend of the Five Ring seems to run Parallel to D&D) makes a bunch of major changes to the lore and mechanics so its not bad just diifferent . Its much simplier and easier to get into and it trims the setting back to more basic low fantasy fare. Its the easiest edition to start

4th edition is my favorite though because I think it more than any other builds on the editions and delivers what I think is Legend of the Five rings at its best.

WoD is very Gen X in both the good and bad ways. IT actually wants to talk about important issues but its very...hit and miss on them (stares unlikely at the edition named after a slur). I have played OWoD Mage the magi vs. technology stuff is dumb but the mechanics are...they are broken as shit but holy shit they are so fucking fun, like an absolutely blast to play with that magic system, absolute hell to GM for though cause its so hard to balance, but if you get a chance go for it.

Going back to Tucker Carlson though, its not having a vague opinions that is different on the details. communists and fascists might say "I hate liberals" but a five min conversation with them will reveal that they hate liberals' for totally different reasons. That isn't the case here, Putin, Tucker Carlson and mr Cultured Marxist here have the exact same talking points

Oh I just saw such a collection of bad takes on the Russia-Ukraine war.

"It's a proxy for NATO vs Russia" obviously NATO will opportunistically move to its own interests, but also no NATO does not mean the USA and does not represent the USA's interests the way "NATO imperialism" always suggests (as when Putin says "the West" yenno), and also in this case NATO did not start shit, only Putin started shit on a non-NATO country so it takes some creative thinking to place NATO as an actual source of the conflict.

"Ukrainian nazis" come the fuck on. If you can understand that Putin has to rely on Wagner surely you can understand that Zelenskyy has to rely on already-formed and already-armed groups that would turn on him at a time he can't afford it? That's not tacit acceptance of nazism by Ukraine or NATO, that's the reality of "an armed battalion occupies this territory and they can hold on to it for me against the invader or shoot at me too". Stop falling for Putin's own propaganda for like, five minutes. No NATO is not "the good guys", but also no there's no "we'll side with nazis!!!!1!!" going on. It's just the fucking reality of war.

"it is the duty of every communist to block production that allows this war to continue" is the worst one yet, because if one side is paralysed everything stops plus or minus Putin and a few military leaders being taken out and/or tried for war crimes, but if the "other side" (supposing it's only NATO-led, which, lol, Ukraine is a real country remember?) is paralysed Ukraine gets destroyed, there's more fun stuff like ethnic cleansing and concentration camps because that's Putin's MO... and there is literally no way that both sides get paralysed (hint: the one most likely to suffer from efforts at sabotage by communists is not the one that wants to quite literally annihilate the neighbouring country)

Yes it is important to call out the world powers that do wrong, yes it will remain important to pay attention to the glaring evils of capitalism and liberalism, but fuck it the moral position is not "point at everything that's bad as if it's equally bad". Some stuff is bad but has to be tolerated. Some stuff is worse than other stuff.
