I love this!! These are all books that I already own that I want to read /finish reading this year. The Ngaio Marsh is a bit of a cheat as it's a 3-in-1 but it's a single volume so I've slipped it in. I was SO excited for Somewhere Beyond the Sea as I LOVED the House in the Cerulean Sea and I started reading it this morning and so far have been SLIGHTLY disappointed because the allegory seems to be laid on a bit thick, but I'm only about a 100 pages in.

Oh btw for any grumbo shippers(I know I reblog a lot of the pairing because! Because they just have chemistry dang it!!), be it platonic or otherwise, I just came up with a little side plot-point that could work if you tweak around some of the timing between the two.

which VC is your favorite !!!

It's got to be IWTV! I do love many of the others of course, but nothing compares to Interview for me. I love the way it explores so many themes, like grief, guilt and in a way, self discovery.

I love the darkness and the rawness of the overall vibe, how it was written from a place of grief and pain, and how that shows through quite prominently. After Interview it's almost like getting whiplash going into the rest of the series with the tonal change. Now I don't personally mind that, I adore most of the books that follow, but to me there's something special about IWTV because of it's gothic vibes and its personal origins.

It's a very character driven story, as opposed to a plot driven one, and I get that that doesn't always do it for some people. Not to mention it's quite slow in pace, but I love that because it gives us the opportunity to really get to know that character. I have a clear understanding as to what they're like, especially Louis as the titular character. I feel like that's maybe at least part of the reason why he's my favourite. Because he's the first character you meet in the whole series, and I had this chance to really connect with him, and get to know him as a character.

There are honestly so many reasons why IWTV is my favourite, but I feel like this sums it up quite nicely for me, without me going on a mile long ramble 😅

I wish I could also traumatise creepy mfs who feel people up in clubs and at parties by showing them cosmic horrors beyond human comprehension

the story about the NYE terrorist attack has the exact energy of traumadumping on your friends thinking they'll laugh it off and then going back to whatever you were talking about before while they all stare at you in deep concern

the whole story being stream of consciousness where he goes 3 tangents deep about nothing before returning to the main story is so on brand like. it really is just "what is blud wafflin about": the book

@officialmood tagged me to show my favourite books I read in 2024! Funny old year for reading last year, I did a lot of re-reading and struggled to get into/through some of the stuff I was excited about reading. But anyway, a mixture of old favourites and new discoveries. David Bowie made me Gay included not because it was a best book of the year (the scope was huge!!! it was a whistlestop tour through music) but because it gave me a massive list of musicians to go away and listen to. Lord Perfect wins the prize for best cover of the year.
