“Regulus Black where the fuck is my lipstick??” James’s sappy rambling was cut off by a rather loud Dorcas, who proceeded to slam the door open.

“Because I know you took it you little— oh… hello.” Dorcas cut herself off this time, as she took in a very naked James next to a similarly naked Regulus. Luckily, the sheet was covering their bottom halves, though in James’s case it was only just.

“Howdy.” James replied with a grin, grabbing his hat off the nightstand and tipping it.

“Are who are you?” Dorcas asked, now smirking at a rather proud Regulus. I mean, who would be embarrassed to have that in their bed?

“I’m James, lovely t’ meet you.” James answered, and made to get out from under the covers to shake her hand.

“Ah, no!” The very lesbian Dorcas stopped him abruptly. “You do not need to get up, thank you very much. You can shake my hand later… after you’ve washed yours.” She added, sending a pointed look at the both of them. James chuckled.

“Alright then. An’ might ah ask who you ‘re?”

“I’m Dorcas. Regulus’s best friend and roommate.” She replied, arms crossed firmly over her chest.

“You didn’ tell me y’ had a roommate.” James murmured, and Regulus scoffed.

“I most certainly did, and there’s two of them. You didn’t hear because you were too busy…” Regulus trailed off with a wary look at Dorcas, who rolled her eyes.

“You two can discuss that later. James, I have only one thing to tell you,” she stated, and James directed his full attention to her. “Treat him right, because his group of friends —myself included— are both not afraid of and good at hiding a body.” Dorcas said firmly, staring the cowboy down.

“Yes ma’am.” He replied, casting a wide-eyed glance at Regulus, who giggled.

“And Reggie, I’m proud of you, love.” Dorcas added with a smirk and a wink, before stepping out, closing the door behind her.

“Well that was… in’erestin’.” James commented, turning on his side to face Regulus again. The younger man chuckled, reaching up and playing with one of the cowboy’s curls.

“Indeed. That’s Dorcas, for you. And she’s the most sane one, aside from Pandora. I’m just glad she didn’t come in about 10 minutes sooner.” Regulus murmured, and James bit his lip, his eyes darkening.

“Or ‘bout a minute later.” He rumbled, pulling Regulus close again.

“James!” He scolded, but it was a laugh. “She’s just in the kitchen! Haven’t you had enough this morning, anyways?” James scoffed.

“Can nev’r get enough o’ you, sweetheart.” He growled, pulling the sheet off. Regulus rolled his eyes, but he had to force himself to hide his smile.

“Fucking insatiable, I swear, you’re a… you’re…” Regulus’s own hitched breath cut him off as James hummed and began trailing his lips downward. James had said cowboys always kept their promises, and he intended to show it.

And, Regulus had stolen Dorcas’ lipstick. Later, he would show James why.

Desde o ataque que sofreram no Witchella, Amelia estava mais quieta do que que costume, para além das palavras que pareciam se guardar, seu semblante também parecia mais sério e atento. Por mais que soubesse desde as últimas férias sobre a força que os bruxos puristas haviam conseguido, sobretudo no ministério, a lufana ainda estava tentando se segurar na esperança de que tudo seria controlado antes de algo explodir. Com o ataque, estava claro que sua esperança não passava de ingenuidade, o que abriu espaço para uma raiva e frustração que Amelia jamais havia sentido.

Não estava acostumada a cumprir tantas detenções, mas o corujal sempre foi um dos lugares que mais frequentou no castelo, então começar por ali não parecia uma ideia tão ruim. Preenchia os bebedouros das corujas a medida que terminava de reunir as cartas e limpar o andar, quando ouviu a voz de Dorcas sobre o profeta diário. "O que você esperava, Doe? Falar sobre isso seria confessar que as coisas estão fugindo do controle... O que gera mais desespero para uns e mais confiança para outros" suas palavras foram proferidas em um tom ameno e um tom amigável, ainda que também estivesse incomodada com a forma que as autoridades estavam lidando com o último ataque, assim como no caso da ameaça que os Bones sofreram no final do último ano, as coisas pareciam apenas se repetir. "O Ben mandou alguma noticia sobre o ministério? Não recebi nada dos meus pais até agora..."

Dorcas Meadowes não sabia o que era pior: estar afastada de suas atividades extracurriculares, precisar cumprir detenção por um tempo praticamente interminável, a suspensão dos passeios em Hogsmeade ou precisar limpar a sujeira do corujal. Pelo menos a bruxa não estava sozinha naquela última tarefa, uma vez que muse também estava lhe ajudando. “Vamos ver o que o Profeta Diário andou publicando…”, comentou ao ver uma coruja chegando trazendo uma edição nova do jornal. Assim que pegou o pedaço de papel se deparou com uma manchete que questionava a segurança e a qualidade de Hogwarts, e a coluna de Rita Skeeter conseguia ser pior ainda. Tomada pela raiva, a grifana amassou o jornal e jogou no chão. “Chega a ser revoltante a quantidade de mentiras que estão publicando nesse jornal, será que as pessoas não querem enxergar a verdade do que está acontecendo?! Ou elas estão pensando em ignorar o problema achando que isso vai se resolver num piscas de olhos?”

i just realized until this moment i didn't think about them w together ever damn bad on my part but now that i think abt it i can say that dorcas relies on regulus a lot. she knows he can handle anything, that he has enough strength to pull himself back when he is lost in the gloom and for regulus dorcas is like ugly truths bcuz she is always 100 percent honest w him and never afraid of telling the ugly truths

i'm in the middle of reading thtf and i really love the way you wrote the relationship between regulus and dorcas. since them being friends is a somewhat popular headcanon, i'd like to know your thoughts on it and how you think it would play out?

hi thank u glad ur liking it!! 💕 not sure how far u are but. thtf basically is my take on a regulus + dorcas friendship so u will see as u read on. but overall/more broadly -

i am personally not a fan of the "slytherin skittles" thing (other people are and that's fine like what u like this is just my opinion disclaimer disclaimer etc etc) in general but especially not in canon-compliant/canon-adjacent fics. personally i think the canonical death eaters were not a fun funky little friend group + i prefer portrayals where they are shitty people. so when the only canon info abt dorcas is that she was in the order, and the only canon info abt characters like barty + evan is that they were death eaters, i'm like....get my girl AWAY from them!!!

however regulus turning on voldemort at the end does, for me, allow more complexity in possible interpretations of his character. so when it comes to regulus + dorcas there are basically 2 ways of interpreting their relationship that i, personally (PERSONAL OPINION DISCLAIMER!!), like, which are:

1. basically what happens in thtf -> they're not really friends but both characters are very morally gray + willing to work together for shared interests; this leads to a tenuous sort of amicable relationship. not so much a solid friendship as an "under other circumstances maybe we could have actually been friends"

2. they are not friends + dorcas thinks regulus is a spoiled fascist <3

so those are my thoughts on the matter lol. of course in an au all bets are off bc both characters have so little canon characterization that u can just do whatever u want with them, but i personally am usually not that interested in characterizations where canon is entirely stripped away, so even in aus i have very little interest in reading abt like. a slytherin friend group centered around the death eaters tbh.
