Added a cut because it got a little long.

Vyrea Moonshield, charr guardian: Ash Legion soldier by birth, still holds loyalty to the Legions despite no longer being affiliated beyond an agreement with Malice. The primary commander, my main, my baby. Middle aged, secretly (until IBS) a single mother, cannot cut herself a break.

Altrevian, sylvari ranger: initially a bright eyed, bushy tailed Valiant following his Wyld Hunt, falls in love with Trahearne, and stops commanding after HoT to process all the trauma and grief he's now burdened with.

Zirre, asura mesmer: spitfire little smarty-pants, a little bit crazy. Accidentally blasted half her face off in Maguuma with a faulty explosive. Took an understandable leave to heal, made a charm with a built-in illusory spell to hide her scars, and returned to help defeat Kralkatorrik. In a fit of desperation, fused a pair of branded griffon wings to her back.

Lyris Belrose, human warrior: Ascalonian noble disillusioned with her family's superiority complex and hatred of charr, served as Warmaster for several years before coming under Zirre's command in the Vigil. Promoted to commander after Zirre's injury, accompanied Vyrea to Elona. Absorbed a fair amount of Balthazar's magic--has the capacity, but not the will to ascend as the new Goddess of War.

And the actual questions:

Who mercy killed Trahearne?

Vyrea. It haunts her.

Which one died to Balthazar?

…Also Vyrea. Lyris heard her die but Balthazar didn’t know she was close by, thankfully. Lyris was the first one to see Vyrea’s body and spent the next few minutes having a very intense panic attack before pulling herself together and alerting the rest of Dragon’s Watch.

How close are they? What do they think of each other?

Vyrea, Al, and Zirre were close as commanders during the Zhaitan campaign. Al's calmer temperament helped smooth out Zirre's rough, risk-taking edges, and both naturally looked to Vyrea as the leader as she was the only one experienced in military environments. Vyrea loves them both dearly, as they were beyond patient with her initial awkwardness--she had never left Ascalon before getting dragged into the Zhaitan mess, and had very limited interactions with other races. Al and Zirre tend to butt heads because their personalities are such polar opposites to each other, but they trust each other wholeheartedly. Zirre was initially resentful of Vyrea, but grew to respect her. Al never had any doubts--Vyrea was such a naturally commanding personality he had no trouble immediately following her lead.

Zirre and Lyris served together in the Vigil. Lyris does not always agree with her, and is one of the few able to reason with some of her more insistent moments. Zirre appreciates that Lyris doesn't back down from her, and privately wishes that Lyris had been picked as commander from the start. Al and Lyris have not met beyond formalities and do not have any particular opinion of the other, but he is thankful that someone skilled and cooperative went to Elona with Vyrea.

Vyrea and Lyris have a rocky sort of friendship. They know the other will always have their back, but Lyris' family history caused some initial friction. Once Vyrea realized Lyris did not subscribe to the prejudices of other Ascalonians she's interacted with, things became much smoother. They have found kinship in the fact that both were snatched from a path they thought was their only option to become something much greater.

Short End of Dragons thoughts

Overall? Loved it. Absolutely vibing with New Kaineng. I big love Rama and his big hat. Enjoyed the plot for the most part, my only gripe being that some of the dialogue, while it made sense, felt a little too perfect. There were a few times I said “what?” out loud in reaction to something the commander said because given their canonical experience, it doesn’t really make sense for them to have said it. Some of the fighting was a little annoying and tedious too, but I’m willing to mostly forgive it because I’m both rusty and also trying to learn willbender.

Also that meta Jesus H Christ. It has the potential to be fun but I really hate it when these things are so highly specialized that you have to have it down to an exact science otherwise it’ll fail. It leaves very little wiggle room for more casual players like myself and makes me think that locking certain things behind it will prevent a lot of players from ever actually obtaining those.

That last little scene made me tear up too. Absolutely amazing way to end the expansion and I hope the asshole gamer bros who have thrown hissy fits about queer rep in this game scream and cry and quit over it. It’ll make it less toxic for the rest of us. I love that EoD showed us so many unapologetically queer characters and I adore that Anet treats them all the same as the rest. After so many games treating queer characters like afterthoughts or punchlines or simply not including them at all, seeing them existing and celebrated onscreen in GW2 is a breath of fresh air and one of the reasons I stick with the game.

Now I’m off to figure out character things. EoD gave me a lot to work with in terms of brain space taken up by ocs and things to do with them, but surprisingly not so much about Vyrea for once! :3c

(Though, I’m not too sure if I will talk about it here. I don’t want to start an exclusively gw2 blog again for reasons, but I also don’t know if I want to ramble on main about my characters. We’ll see.)
