The funniest original Star Trek scene to date is from The Thalion Web where Spock and Bones think Kirk has been killed and are arguing over the incredibly dangerous situation the Enterprise is currently in and Bones is thiiiiiis close to saying Spock is unfit for duty out of spite and Spock just dared him to do it and then they put in a little recorded message of Kirk's last order that he told them to watch if he ever dies and in it Kirk says "Since you're watching this I assume I'm dead and Enterprise is in terrible danger. And that you two are locked in mortal combat."
Kirk using the words MORTAL COMBAT and then saying EXACTLY the right words to make those two stop fighting is hilarious in and of itself.
But then THEY LIE ABOUT LISTENING TO THE MESSAGE. Once he's back they're like "what message, oh that, we didn't have time for that". These dorks.

I really wish that more pre-reform/pre-surak fics leaned into cyberpunk instead of going for "shirtless men with spears". Like if I'm being honest, it feels like people sometimes turn vulcans into the "noble savage" trope. Which is, I cannot stress this enough, very weird. You're writing about spacemen and you're somehow managing to be racist against native people. And like. I don't think it's deliberate, and I'm aware that this conception of vulcans has been around for decades and that many people have just kind of picked it up by osmosis, but. Like. It's not great. It is, dare I say, a little bit problematic. It also isn't at all accurate to canon? People just made that up. Because Surak died in the 4th century, just about 2000 years before canon, and do you know what his cause of death was? Radiation poisoning. When they say, "vulcans were extremely violent pre-reform, and nearly wiped themselves out," they don't mean they were having tribal battles on the backs of sehlats or whatever. They mean they were having nuclear warfare.

slightly fucked up moment in voy s7 'shattered' where they show adult icheb and naomi working on voyager. YOU'RE STILL HERE??? You genuinely spent up to your mid 30s and maybe beyond on this ship presumably still traveling to the alpha quadrant? Are you operating this ship by yourself? Is this a generation ship? Is everyone dead except for you and the people with the extended lifespans?? Will you get home in 40 years with noone left alive from the original crew with only people who've never even seen 'home'???

Tuvok Pon Farr episode deleted scene where Janeway sadly goes to her quarters and puts her Vulcan strap away (there's a calendar behind her with the day circled three times in red. exclamation marks.)

The question is not "why do Vulcans kiss with their fingers?"
The question is, why do humans NOT?
The human fingertip—EACH fingertip—has over three thousand nerve endings. It has more touch receptors per millimeter than any other part of the body, including lips, tongue, and genitals.
Obviously the type of sensation we get from our fingers isn't typically a sexual one. But this is also true of lips and tongues. We just think of our lips as romantic and sexual but we don't put finger touching into the same context. We probably could though.
The real reason Vulcans kiss with their hands? It's because they don't touch with their hands very often. Something you don't do with everyone becomes significant and intimate. Like (switching universes for a minute) when the Radchaai take off their gloves. You wear gloves 24/7 around everyone you know, pretty soon taking them off will feel like stripping. Same concept.
Context is everything. Sure, it's no big deal for Vulcans to type with their fingers, just like it's no big deal for you to put chapstick on or lick an ice cream cone. But when a person you've never touched before very carefully brushes your pinkie with their pinkie while your hands are under the table.....you gonna tell me that's not first base? It could be.

imagine being Tuvok. you're 98 years old. you're being ferried from the Cardassian border wars to the center of the Alpha Quadrant. a rookie Ensign with a square jaw and bright eyes greets you on the new starship. you frown, looking down at her with an arched brow. she has not obeyed protocol. you dress her down. she grits her teeth. but she bears it, if not with a proud glint in her eye.
to a Vulcan, she is both highly emotional and impossibly young. but these, after all, are humans.
she catches your attention. you serve together. you take her under your wing.
at some point, she becomes captain. you cannot say so, but you are unbearably proud. you are in security. there is a war. you go undercover. you part ways. you fight side-by-side with insurgents, submerging yourself into death and surveillance.
there is a battle. there is an accident. many die. you survive. you end up by her side again. you serve under her. now, she is your captain.
you are 212 now. you used to be a young man. once, you chafed against starfleet. now, you've been an officer almost all your life. now, these protocols are in your bones.
you are impossibly far from home. you believe that you will return. that young ensign is a woman now, in her middle age. you have a wife and children. they are far away.
you look up from your station, to the place where you are always looking up. that is where she sits. she has defied all your logic. she has become your logic.
she stands on the bridge. you stand behind her.
you are reminded, in small moments, of a court transcript of another vulcan officer, with another human captain.
If I let a hammer fall, I do not need to see it to know that it has fallen.
Kathryn Janeway is the Captain. You are her Officer.

i feel like Spock would be easy to overwhelm (intentionally and unintentionally) during intimate moments bc of how unused he’d be to feeling so much love and affection for him being projected via his touch telepathy

I do think it would be very funny if, instead of sonic showers, vulcans cleaned themselves via sandblasting. every starship shower has two modes: "water" and "get pelted with rocks," and woe betide poor ensign who doesn't notice that someone changed the settings in their shared bathroom.

Shore Leave of the Enterprise on Vulcan
Two vulcans looking in the distance:
"Who do you think that is", the first one says, pointing at another Vulcan standing near another humanoid figure in a Starfleet uniform.
"Hard to tell from this distance", the second one responds, just as the Vulcan they were observing grabs the hand of the figure they now could tell was a human man.
"Ah, Spock son of Sarek." They both conclude at the overly open PDA.
