The Everilles had been a recent client of the midwives. Odilie liked to follow up on her mothers, however this checkup was more for enjoyment. Sybil and Avis were peas in a pod, and Della and Odilie had soothed the rockiness in their relationship. Both families quite liked one another. The matriarch, Mary, of course, inquired on "What sort of witchcraft are ya using now a'days?" Her son let out a sigh of embarrassment, but Odilie wasn't bothered and instead laughed.

Once the woodcutters went home, Odilie poured her and her daughter a warm glass of ale.
Odilie: "It is a dear shame Peter Everille is so young. You'd make an excellent match."
Avis: "It is a great relief, than, that you are immune to commitment." Avis returned in jest. It was no secret in the village that Mr. Fairburne had mysteriously disappeared after threatening his wife. Odilie had rejected several marriage proposals after that.
Odilie: "You'd be correct I suppose." She mused. "The guild has recognized me as a senior journeyman, it will only be a few more years before they recognize me as a master. Once that occurs, Mari Everille shall become my apprentice alongside you. Her parents believe that is best for her. She's very intelligent."
Avis: "That will be different."

The women went to bed. Odilie had sent a tidy sum of $1828 coin to the treasury. The matriarch slept well knowing her family was afloat and surviving for another season.

Summer had come to an end that evening. A chill had settled in the air, so Della prepared an extra hot supper. Only the older family members were still awake to enjoy it, as the children hade crawled into bed.

A sudden knock interrupted Supper. The Lord Steward had arrived the season's taxes. However, Lord Cecil was in extra foul mood. He gave strong retribution to Thorley regarding Mari's aggression earlier in the season. No fine would be issued, but severe punishment would follow further missteps. Lord Cecil collected the tidy sum of $3227 coin and departed.

Mari had heard the shouts from the other room. She began to sniffle quietly. She'd brought her father back home but she was still just the problem child.

Like mother like daughter, both women know how to schmooze customers. Sybil was still hoping the yeoman beekeeper would ask her a more personal question than, "How long does willow wood burn for?"
The rest of the family returned home and took to relaxing pursuits. Their work had been finished that morning in the Wood.

Exhausted, Della handed her newborn over to her father. Lilly was a replica of her father. Her hair held that beautiful red tint and her eyes were like silver coins. Thorley's smile was contagious. Sybil couldn't help but grin too when she met her newest sister. Grandmother Mary was the last to hold Lilly. Mary whispered a story about a brave forest man as she went to put the infant to bed.

Thorley: "Is this really my Billie? You look as beautiful as your mother."

Thorley: "You've not aged a day since our wedding my sweet wife."
Della: "We've missed you more than you could ever imagine"

Sybil found herself always confused and short of temper lately. Her mind was constantly troubled. Marriage, death, Mari, Cecil, society, why was status important again? Oh yeah limits- WATCHER WHY WAS SHE SO FILTHY ALL THE TIME? Why did being 14 have to be so taxing?

A party was held to celebrate Peter's birthday, but it also served a strategic purpose. The woodcutters were a necessary staple of the community, Veonia relied on the Everilles to be a strong family. Showcasing a returned Thorley, a growing brood of well rounded children, and presenting a very well stocked store front were just a few of the benefits.

Many of the village's citizens were content enough to just be fed Della's delicious cooking.

It was a miracle of its own for the two Everille girls to be getting along. They acted like night and day most of the time, but it seemed they'd compromised for the sake of the family. The girls father was alive, why fight over what woodland flowers were prettiest?

Peter Everille was growing quickly. Whether it was his grandmother, sister, or mother watching him, Peter was constantly surrounded by love and care. While everyone else in the household had their own ghosts haunting them, Peter's biggest dilemma was deciding if he wanted to take his first steps.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As of late, Sybil had taken over much of Peter's care. Mary was beginning to refine her logs and Della had reopened the firewood stand.

On occasion, the matriarch would take a break from her strenuous wood chopping to spend some time with her grandchildren. It was much easier now for Mary to retire earlier in the day. Thorley was slowly beginning to take over his duties as head of the family. However, his workaholic wife Della wasn't quite ready to give up her title as the "saleswoman."

Mallory Linden had been a close companion of Mary's for several years, decades even. It wasn't unusual to see the spinster drop by Everille hut. Only nowadays she often came with Mary's granddaughter, Sybil. Mallory had been the longtime servant for the Landvik House. She was long overdue to have an apprentice working with her.
Tumblr media
Mary: "What does that stuffy Squire's Mistress tell you nowadays Mal? I'm sure she's still complaining about her lazy sister."
Mallory: "Widow Astur is still pursuing her... sciences. However Lady Erika's talk is directed toward the Cecils lately. She's heard rumors young Helene was... assaulted in the forest recently."
Tumblr media
Sybil: "Miss Landvik has spoken of similar rumors. Her brother, the young heir Landvik, told her a fiery ginger is stirring up trouble.... Your fame is spreading quickly little sister."
Mary could only glare at her oldest hot-headed granddaughter. The Matriarch had yet to tell Della of the situation. Della already had so much to deal with.
Tumblr media
Della: "Mari! You've gotten into a fight?"
Mari: "Mama she was saying such terrible things-"
Della: "It does not matter what was said! What mattered is what you did. Oh Watcher, why must you act so rashly. May the Royal Steward have some mercy for a mourning girl."

Della Everille loved cats. Whenever the widow looked at a stray's big eyes, oh how her heart melted. Felines could do no wrong in her eyes.
It wasn't long before Della began to feed the strays, and one of those strays stuck around. Willow Everille was the newest addition to the family. The molly was warmly welcomed by the non-cat people of the home.

Avis is too young to enter the Midwifery guild in St. Clair, so for now she is under the direction of her mother. At home, Avis hones her herbology skills as she tends the garden. the garden hosts a wide variety of plants; some will make your problems disappear while others may worsen your problems. Jynx Fairburne protects the garden at night, scaring away even wolves from the herbs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Avis keeps few friends, but the ones she does entertain are very close to her. Sybil Everille, another teenager in the settlement of Veonia, visits often after work. The girls share gossip about the gentry that Sybil is employed by. Avis whispers how her Ladyship Landvik takes Moon Tea.

Sybil was caught of guard when she felt herself pulled into a tight hug. She relaxed upon seeing the familiar ginger. Sybil and Avis Fairburne had grown up together, although the girls had barely spoken since they'd grown older.
Tumblr media
"Avis! You scared me for a moment! I barely recognized you, I used to tower over you."
"Ha, not anymore Sybbie!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The girls caught up with one another. Avis invited the raven-head to a playful game of kicky bag. Sybil found herself smiling for the first time all day. For a moment, she forgot about the sadness.

The Everille women rose early on the 1st of Summer. There was more than enough work to be done, and Sybil knew she was expected to start assisting her family more now. She attempted to put on a strong face as she followed her grandmother out of the woodcutter's home, but soon the tears washed away any resemblance of a strong girl.
Mary hugged her eldest grandchild closely. The old woman cried too. Both of the women knew nothing would ever fill the bleeding gnash in their hearts, only time would sew it into a scar. Mary cried also for the new wound her friend Norde Nyberg had left.
Eventually the two were able to dry each others eyes and continue to the forest.
