Noticed that this frame of Go Onizuka's Playmaker has the similar pose as real Playmaker's transformation.
Non-transparent version here:
Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS Episodes:
1, "My Name is Playmaker" (俺の名はPlaymaker Ore no na ha Playmaker) [The real Playmaker]
22, "The Sun Dyed Jet Black" (漆黒に染る日輪 Shikkoku ni Somaru Nichirin) [Go Onizuka's Playmaker]

33, 31, 30 for ygo ask meme :D
33 - Favorite Quote
You're getting a list haha
Yuma's constant attempts to befriend Shark are pretty high on my list
Yuya's speech at the beginning of the Miami Championship Arc, and the speech at the end of the Friendship Cup. Both were just.. so nice to hear
And anything Yugo says, both in sub and dub. I appreciate someone who's just a little dumb, who randomly gets kinda poetic, y'know?
As for a silly quote. From the arcv dub, "How do you sleep at night, Yuya?" "UHM. With pillows??"
31 - Favorite Duel
Another list,, it's hard to choosej ust one
I really like the Shark vs Yuma duel in episode 10 because it's so interesting to see the protagonist lose important duels, I like seeing it a lot even if that duel itself didn't have the consequences it could've
Also!! I just finished the III vs Shark duel. I liked that one too :]
Auh, for ArcV, it's hard to choose, I love too many of the duels to truly just. Pick one. Or even a handful.
So many of the duels are a treat to watch because there's so many visual elements to them, the stakes are usually pretty high, so many different summoning methods helping to add diversity, they're all so interesting in their own way
30 - Favorite Episode
I love so many episodes I don't think I can give you just one
So uh, once more you're getting a list
Zexal Episode 10 - Okay my reasoning for this is kinda funny, I love Shark, and I find Yuma losing such an important duel to be fascinating writing wise. I love it
Zexal Episodes 22 - 24 - Shark risking his life to protect Yuma's key, and subsequently Astral, Kaito and Astrals duel, Yuma joining through the power of zeXal, wah I love these episodes
Zexal Episode 34 - I love both III and Shark very very much so seeing them duel was so much fun
And that ends it for Zexal because I'm not very far into it shdhd
Any early Arc V plot episodes
Arc V Episode 34-35 - I love this duel so much, it has suuuch good writing and it's nice to watch
Arc V Episode 37 - Because of the amount of memes related to the episode still going around
Arc V Episode 47 - Yuzu switching clothes with Serena so she doesn't get brought back to Acedemia. Oooh that was fun
So very many of the Synchro episodes, too many to list here
Both Ruri and Rin's duels against their loved ones in Acedemia. Those hurt, I love them.
I unfortunately didn't get far enough into Vrains for me to uh, remember anything from it. So I can't exactly pick out a specific episode shdhf
#purpleask#purpletag#yugioh#arc v#zexal#can you tell I really. really like shark from zexal?#also if any episode number is wrong#I'm so sorry I tried my hardest to make sure they're accurate

Anyway, S1 of VRAINS is over.
4/46 of the episodes were recaps.
The structure of S1 is:
Episode 1-12, introductory Duels from Knight of Hanoi to Revolver.
Episode 13, recap.
Episode 14-20, Akira mini-arc. (7 Episodes in total)
Episode 21, recap.
Episode 22-28, Another incidents, Three (Lesser) Knights of Hanoi, with LINK-4s for Aoi, and Go's initial Decks. (7 Episodes in total)
Episode 29, recap.
Episode 30-37, Tower of Hanoi part 1, Spectre mini-arc. (8 Episodes in total)
Episode 38, recap.
Episode 39-46, Tower of Hanoi part 2, Revolver Duels. (8 episodes in total).
With the exception of Akira, everyone gets at least 2 Duels, with Go, and Aoi getting three Duels (1 loss against Yusaku, 1 win against Lesser Knights of Hanoi, 1 loss against Revolver/Spectre respectively).
S1 of VRAINS is fairly formulaic, though end Duels, and lesser Knight of Hanoi episodes are entertaining.
Big elephant in the room of the first two arcs of S1, SOL Tech, will not be relevant in later seasons directly, even though they are one of the major factions in S2.
By the end of the S1, all of the Knights of Hanoi are defeated, though they will regroup, they will remain plot-wise minor, but screentime-wise popular antagonists in S2, and antagonistic allies in S3.
Revolver has a rather miserable loss ratio against Yusaku, though his status is preserved with his performance against other characters.
Due to promotion of Links, this season has no other Summoning methods covered, and each major character has one monster type, with occasionally with one Attribute covered. As LINK-5 monsters will not be common until S2's ending (initially existing as unplayable Tournament Prize cards), this season's ending focuses on Extra Linking instead.
We will do an overview of S2 later on.

Might as well reply to everything, since I don't ever get asks.
Sorry, I don't really make that kind of association.
YES
Torn between "When the Brush hits the Canvas" and "The OTHER Kid". They're very different fics though.
Um... Six or so? If you count the Infinite Loops stuff as three separate things and include the stuff I never posted.
A few too many of them tbh... I guess the big one would be the YGO Arc-V Superhero AU. That one is doomed to stay in concept one-shots that are little more than abstract scenes. Or the urban fantasy Zelda disabled vet AU (only wrote the prologue)
HOO BOY YES. Though they often change depending on which fandom I'm in at the time. "I'm Nobody", "Witches Wizards Shadows and Souls", "PATCHWORK SOUL", "Cor Autem Aurora", "Beyond the Ocean Beach" series... I could go on.
Lemme check... 23 according to the list. With various degrees of definition.
"When the Brush hits the Canvas" (LoZ LBW novelization), "Eldritch Metropolis of Rumours: Sumaru" (Infinite Loops Project), "DENN" (Infinite Loops Project), "Stand Up and Lead the Way" (KHR/Cardfight Vanguard Xover). But mostly the Sumaru thing. The novelization is on March to May thing and the rest whenever the mood strikes.
No, I don't. I go through LONG spells of not writing a thing.
I WISH I was getting responses...
Not really, but what type of music I go for depends on the genre of what I'm writing.
No.
It really depends on how commited I am. However, I find it far easier to make worldbuilding and characterization notes over actual plot.
In/Sight/Less (the Zelda AU). I would love to see an actual game out of it. Or a comic. Too bad I only posted the prologue on a random SB thread.
I try to find something metaphorical that alludes to the overal concept usually. "When the Brush hits the Canvas" was me altering the phrase "when shit hits the fan" believe it or not.
Usually at the early notes stages, before I start actually writing.
I, uh... usually don't research? I mean, I read up on canon stuff but having to search real topics just never came up.
"Edgy JRPG Disney sword key wizard. Yeah. He was a thing."
"
“Dristhi, you said that it doesn’t look like something an air vacuum could do?” she asked.
“Yeah. Usually breaks go for the path of least resistance, not most resistance. And for a break like that it needs to crash into something. This stuff doesn’t happen mid-air.”
“The weather has been growing increasingly unstable up there though” said Link, who was still paying attention to the broadcast. “Is it really that impossible?”
20. "In/Sight/Less" I had a really hard time coming up with it. I hope I get to write the fic at some point. 21. Yeah, mostly during "WBHC". Either when I wasn't satisfied with the quality or when the scene did not lead me to the result I wanted. 22. No. Definitely not. Except the novelization. 23. Usually at what I deem a sufficient length, (I try to keep word counts more or less uniform). Aside from that I mostly go by gut feeling. 24. Never did moodboards. 25. Yes, yes I have. The VRAINS activation for the Infinite Loops Project. Having to write someone sling accusations to someone who confessed their love to him while in the middle of a PTSD episode was rough. 26. The one porn fic. Though I guess I could show it to my dad, he doesn't know English. 27. Can't say there was... I know I'm a good writer, usually whatever responses I get (if any) are positive. 28. No. I don't write that stuff. 29. I don't have a deleted scene written down anywhere, so I'll go for the "will never write down" option: Mass Effect and Sonic the Hedgehog crossover where Silver is a Biotic, GUN and Cerberus are butting heads under the noses of the Systems Alliance, everyone is trying to hide the existence of the Eclipse Cannon and the whole Citadel thinks that Omega was programmed by Krogan. 30. I'll leave that to anyone who may care to reblog this.
I’m Bored and Anxious So I Slapped Together a List of Fan Fic Writer Asks

What’s one of your favorite lines you’ve written in a fic? 19. Give us a small teaser from one of your WIPs. 20. What’s a favorite title for a fic you’ve written? 21. Have you ever deleted an entire scene after spending hours laboring over it? If so, why? 22. Do you know how your fic will end before you start writing? 23. How do you choose where to end a chapter (if you have multi-chapter works)? 24. Share a moodboard for (one of) your current WIP(s). 25. Have you ever upset yourself with your own writing? 26. Is there something you’ve written that you would never want your family to see? 27. Is there a fic you were nervous to post/share? Why? 28. Have you ever tagged a fic “Dead Dove: Do Not Eat”? 29. Share a bit from a fic you’ll never post OR from a scene that was cut from an already posted fic. (If you don’t have either, just share a random fic idea you have that you don’t plan on getting to.) 30. Ask anything!

Episode 22 - Blackened Sun
I have so many screenshots that I think this post might be long. I had to control myself to not use them all.
For starters, I think this has to be with the new animation director. Now Link Vrains actually looks cool, there are a lot of people dueling, and even kids running around? That is weird but at least it doesn’t look like a gray city anymore.
The eclipse looks really cool, and it seems it caused glitches in the system, back in SOL with Kitamura (who surprisingly hasn’t been fired ye) they are trying to see what is happening. It has been a while since we last saw the chess pieces, I wonder, why have they been absent for so long, especially after what happened in the data bank.
Ghost Girl makes a very brief appearance. That is pretty much what she says. Which may have been to make us think there was a new enemy of sorts.
Then we have Playmaker and Ai, also watching the eclipse. They say some interesting things on here. Humanity as a whole doesn’t matter how much technology advances, have always been the same.
After the opening, we see a flashback of Yusaku and that voice, just then Naoki starts talking about “Athnoer”.
This part was funny, he let Naoki tell him everything, even when he already knew.
All the victims share three (really?) traits: #1 They have exceptional dueling talent. #2 They use the old-type Duel Disk #3 They are all hackers
It seems there are a lot more hackers around than what I thought, also, there are much more people with Yusaku’s Duel Disk model, which may be the reason why nobody suspects him, anyone can have the same Duel Disk, so anyone could be Playmaker.
And by the previews and summaries, I thought the new target would be Go, that could actually have been a good way to take him back to the story. But all along the target was Playmaker.
Kusanagi has made a list of potential victims and, exactly the first one on his list is the new victim. An orphaned kid (what is it with so many orphans around) that happened to be Go’s childhood friend.
Hanoi is using the same virus they used with Aoi to no one surprise, it just seemed oh so similar that it couldn’t have been another way. Then, if Aoi was the first one they used it on, it was some kind of test to do this later on?
Revolver wants to know Playmaker’s identity (obviously) and duel with him again, which is obvious will happen sometime soon. It seems, after their duel he genuinely is intrigued as to who Playmaker is. Maybe they even met 10 years ago. Was Revolver the voice Yusaku heard?
Go goes to the hospital and we see a flashback of the moment he met Makoto. I have to ask... what is it with Go’s kid design? It looks so wrong like he was born with the same face. Just awful.
So, there are tournaments (not surprising), we may even get a tournament arc at some point (DM, Gx and 5Ds all had tournaments never watched zexal or arc v so I don’t know) it is more than likely we will get one.
Go spots Yusaku as he was leaving and asks for his name, I noticed that when he said “Fujiki” Go’s eyes start to make this anime thing which I don’t remember the word for flickering?, maybe he knows/knew Yusaku from before and Yusaku doesn’t remember? did he remember something? OR maybe I’m looking too much into it.
The new Hanoi Knights are on a rampage while Revolver only watches them. Now there are over a thousand member in the Knights, that is quite a lot, considering we had only seen like 3.
Here we have our new characters in their really brief appearance. Faust and Vyra seem to be in the higher ranks of the Knights, they may have even taken part in the “Hanoi project”, who knows, this time they were just presented as new characters, we will have to wait to see what their role will be.
Although I think we have seen Vyra before, it is the same hair, the same colors, and even the same eyes (and color for that matter), I don’t think for a second this is just a coincidence. I mean, if Ghost Girl barely tried to be anonymous, this Vyra just went ahead and used her real face just like Go.
Fast forwarding to the end of the episode, Go pretends to be Playmaker, while literally throwing the Knights guys off their boards to lure Genome, he appears he knows it is not Playmaker. So Go offers an exchange, Playmaker’s identity if he loses and the virus removal program if he wins. Did Go figured out Yusaku is Playmaker in that small encounter they had? OR is he just bluffing? Based on the summaries, we don’t know if he is going to win or lose, so let’s wait and see.
Yusaku looks GENUINELY, concerned at the possibility that Go isn’t lying at all. I personally think he doesn’t know, their interaction was barely like 5 seconds long, Go shouldn’t be able to figure that out THAT fast. I still think it will be Aoi that will find it out first, that is if they interact both in the VR and in real life.
All in all a really good episode, there was so much happening at the same time I had to watch it 2 times to collect all the screenshots I wanted, I hope from now on the episodes will be like this one. Let’s see what will happen next.

It’s probably pretty obvious at this point but my interest in VRAINS has wavered. I’m not as enthusiastic about it as I used to be and that sucks, honestly. The latest episodes, namely Akira vs. Yusaku and episodes 21 and 22, have failed to capture my attention. Recently, however, I rewatched episode 7 - Blue Angel’s duel against Playmaker - and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time grinning like an idiot even if I knew the results of the battle.
With the current episodes, however, I can’t react like that. I don’t hold any excitement to the upcoming episodes - it doesn’t feel like we’re getting anywhere with the plot. And, sure, we’ve learned a bit about Yusaku’s past but it’s honestly not much past what we already knew or had speculated about beforehand. The only thing that leapt out to me personally was the weird eye-like being that appeared and, even then, the knowledge that it won’t get addressed for quite some time weighs down on me. The whole Akira vs. Yusaku fight had potential to push the show somewhere new - to start talking about the six lost kids or to start thinking about real life Revolver or even Kusanagi’s brother some more. Instead, we’re still going over the whole “I must find answers” spiel that’s been started since episode 1 and…I honestly don’t feel like we’ve progressed any further.
There are still five children left to identify. There are still five AIs trapped in a world. There are still mysteries the show has left to touch upon if only briefly instead of bringing them up for one second and then dropping them like an anchor into a sea. It feels like, since episode 1, we have this giant wall of a gazillion horizontal layers looming over us. And, as it stands now, out of those gazillion layers maybe only a handful or so have been taken off. That leaves a whole gazillion minus five layers to delve through. We’re at episode 22. There should be more layers destroyed at this point - not a handful.
Not only that, but I’m losing my attachment to our protagonist. I can’t place it into words, exactly, but someone on my dash once pointed out something about him that caught my eye: the show worships Yusaku. He’s made out to be an eternal hero, the savior of Link VRAINS and the only threat that matters in the world to Hanoi or otherwise. And, while there’s a basis to this - Yusaku holds a creation of eternal value - the show seems to focus less on the fact that every one and their cousin wants Ai and more on that Yusaku is a “hero” who needs to be taught a lesson by the bad guys because he’s that good guy that everyone needs to love.
What makes the show’s hero worship of Yusaku/Playmaker the most annoying thing to me is that everyone seems to agree that the guy is respectable and “awe-inspiring”. Revolver respects him, Blue Angel respects him, Go Onizuka respects him, Aoi Zaizen respects him, Akira Zaizen respects him, Ema Bessho respects him, Shoichi Kusanagi - do you see where I’m going here? The only characters who don’t seem to respect Yusaku (Specter, Dr. Kogami, virtually everyone who’s never seen him or met him yet) are inspired by him. He touches the lives of every single damn person he meets. Every. Single. One. And, lemme tell you, that’s almost characteristic of the Gary Stu trait - to have everyone think of the protagonist in a favorable light just because he’s cool/good at dueling/a savior/mysterious and so on and so forth.
There has to be someone who could care less about Playmaker - whose life doesn’t consist of either chasing after him (Blue Angel, Revolver, etc.) or fawning over him (Naoki, Ema to some extent), someone who sits in the shadows and lets Playmaker play distraction while a greater plot unfolds behind the scenes. At the very least - can’t we have someone who genuinely hates Playmaker and refuses to change their views of him even after one little duel (and, no, Revolver doesn’t count. This latest episode has proven that Revolver thinks highly enough of Playmaker to at least want to duel him one more time - if not out of fun than out of a craving for dominance over someone who “bested” him and thus who he respects).
Part of what I love about all the adults so far (sans, obviously, Shoichi) is that their lives don’t necessarily revolve around Yusaku. Go’s manager seeks to tend to Go and encourage him to do what Go believes is best. Akira thinks always of his sister and when he’s not chasing after a lost AI (and *grumbles* Playmaker himself) he’s working hard for his sister’s sake to make her happy. Dr. Kogami is working to destroy one of his own creations to right a wrong. Ema Bessho, though heavily involved with Playmaker in her duel against him, very much walks her own path. She’s more involved with Akira than she is anyone else and, when she’s not working with Akira she’s off trying to make a profit.
Both Ema and Dr. Kogami seem to have the least “worship” to Playmaker as a whole and act almost independent of what Playmaker wants (although, with Ema, I’m hoping she won’t become the type to bend to Playmaker’s will just because of her current “crush” on him). They’re also the two remaining characters I’m interested in (with my initial infatuation with Aoi falling the longer we see her either by Playmaker’s side or off-screen entirely without a chance to shine) specifically because they have a focus that doesn’t center solely on him - Ema wants a profit (for reasons unknown or because she really likes money even though she doesn’t really live too luxuriously) and Dr. Kogami wants to destroy his creations even if he was to destroy Link VRAINS (and maybe even himself) to do so.
…So, in summary, I dunno. I’m hoping if I wait this current arc out that I’ll get rewarded but, having slogged through the last Hanoi arc (which did little to pique my interest, honestly, aside from Ghost Girl’s bits), I’m not sure about that. Ema’s honestly one of the few reasons why I keep watching - if only to see bits and pieces of her here and there. Aoi’s also another reason but considering how rarely we see Aoi (and, I’m not including her online persona bc her online persona has kind of become a bit saturated in the plot rn) she’s not really a doable reason to keep watching. I’m also hoping that maybe we get somewhere - that maybe we try another route, something that doesn’t involve fighting Hanoi or claiming a need to “seek for the truth of the past”. Both of those rhetorics are getting real old now and, I feel like, if the show doesn’t step on a new path soon enough, it’ll get pretty stale to me quickly…
Put another way - I’m guess you can say I am infatuated with the beginning of VRAINS but I am also losing interest in the modern era of VRAINS.
#vrains#Azure rants a little#I'm just sorting out my thoughts don't mind me#ignore if you want#I'm still into VRAINS just...not as much as I was#and that sucks bc I recently rewatched episode 7 and I was thrilled by it#the latest episodes don't give me that same feeling however#the same emotions I felt at the beginning of the show are gone now#we're trudging along a aimless plot#we're not progressing any further#what have we learned of Yusaku's past since episode 1?#honestly not much aside from his three reasons and him being tortured as a lab experiment as a kid#rn the show feels stale and stagnant#i'm hoping once we get past this current arc it improves but#can we please focus somewhere else other than Hanoi and Yusaku's past for once#I know the show revolves around it but PLEASE give us a breather somewhere too#Go's involvement with the Anothers is a start#and so is the solar eclipse#but the solar eclipse is a whole bitter ballgame that I'm still upset over in episode 22#Ema continues to intrigue me however#so I keep watching for her because she's one of the few reasons I admittedly keep watching VRAINS for

Yu-gi-oh! SR! (short for sidereal)
I’ve been talking about wanting to make a ygo fan series for a while on my main and I finally did 🤟 here’s the protagonist and her rival! I’m putting their profiles and the info about the series under the cut because it’s kinda long, even tho I tried to stick to just the basics 💀
⏳ Yunori Aokawa ⏳
⏳Age 22
⏳Deck theme: Wind attributes, lots of winged beasts. Her ace is ‘grand meridian quaver’, an angelic looking monster with a scythe and eight wings. (At some point I’ll come back and design these girls ace monsters for real…)
⏳ Our protagonist! She’s wanted to be a horologist forever and is deeply interested in history; in the future she’s from, a horologist isn’t just someone who studies time, but is someone who directly can observe set points on the timelines.
⏳They do this at a company called ChronoCorp (which is lowkey kinda shady…Yunori doesn’t work there long enough to notice…there’s 20 miles of contracts and NDAs, and you have to pass several hard tests to even be considered to be a new hire, so needless to say, Yunori studied Very Hard) it’s basically just people assigned historical events that were poorly documented to go and transcribe what actually happened, using tech that lets them watch it on hologram screens and pause it (basically a fancy TV…) they aren’t supposed to be able to interact with the events in any way and time travel is not a (publicly) known thing…
⏳On her first week on the job she finds a mysterious ring on her desk with a note with her name on it and assumes it’s a company gift, and while observing, she gets so into watching the duel she leans forward to the screen…and falls in! the ring seems to give her this ability and to have a lot of mystery around it, including it’s origin, and it has a recharge time, so once she’s in a certain time, she’s stuck for a while (not to mention, at the start she has no idea how it works or how to control it…) it’s called the sidereal ring! Yes this is a time travel plot. It’s very self indulgent of me.
⏳I’m not including stuff from arc v, vrains or sevens because I haven’t watched them, so they’re non canon here I guess for now? The series is a 200-300 yrs after zexal!
⏳ Yunori is a very cautious, nervous girl at the start of her adventure, determined she shouldn’t be interfering with history. She’s genre savvy and is convinced she’ll mess up the timeline if she does anything major, but over the course of the series becomes more confident and realizes she’s meant to be at the places she arrives at. She’s a huge history nerd and geeks out over famous duelists also despite having stage fright herself, she loves to see other people duel and loves to duel herself!
🎃Majo Kuromiya 🎃
🎃Age 24
🎃Deck theme: Halloween! Her ace card is a jack-o-lantern dragon called ‘boosilisk the hallowyvern’
🎃The rival character! She started entering duel tournaments in middle school to help her family because they were impoverished at the time, and by high school she was touring on professional duel circuits and had serious money. She very carefully developed and maintained her persona of being a spooky queen who puts on a show of being creepy while dueling, though she does earnestly love creepy cute things!
🎃She used her winnings to start her own company, Hallowed-Evolution. It’s the largest duel monsters costume and cosplay retailer! She’s pretty calculating because she’s been managing the company since she turned 18 to further support her family and handles a lot of PR herself. Although she threw herself into it so wholeheartedly that she never had time to make friends, which her family worries about. She’s so used to putting her persona up that it’s hard for her to make friends because she’s always got her mask up.
🎃Her and Yunori meet because Yunori lands in her time (sometime between 5Ds and zexal?) first, and because she owns her costume company and works with fabrics, she’s like What Is Your Outfit Made of. That’s not a fabric ive seen!!! (It’s Future Fabric™️) and Yunori is miserable at lying. Majo then let’s her stay at her estate trying to pry out details about the future (honestly, her first motives are to get details about the future to try and use that to grow her company…)
🎃 Yunori is a kind of awkward girl thought of as a history otaku back home so she didn’t have friends, and Majo doesn’t have any friends either, so they make a fun duo of Weird Girls and eventually grow together as people and have a full group of friends by the end. But at the start they’re both the same kind of too-focused on work types and learn to relax together 😌
🎃They butt heads a lot because Majo believes if Yunori is here, it means she was meant to be and shouldn’t be so afraid to mess up the timelines. (Majo is right, and smug about it later) Majo is also fascinated by superstitions and the occult and will casually say super morbid things which freaks Yunori out. Also, Majo is desperate to duel Yunori and beat her, because if she can beat someone who has the advantage of future cards and has studied duels as much as Yunori has, she’s convinced that’s the best victory that could be had. She also wants it to be a big showy match, but Yunori is like NO I HAVE TO STAY A SECRET IM NOT EVEN BORN IN THIS TIME YET!!! (They duel several times and yes, eventually on a big stage! Majo helps Yunori get over her stage-fright!)
🎃Majo also supplies Yunori with time-accurate outfits to help her blend in even though she doesn’t think Yunori actually needs to, and comes with her for pretty much all the adventures (Yunori accidentally brings her at first and while Majo is kind of excited to be involved, she’s more worried about her family and who will run her company, but when she gets back she realizes she doesn’t have to do everything alone because her family was reliably running it in her absence!) Her family includes her mother, her grandfather and two younger brothers (one 14 and one 10) and her mother was the one helping run the company for the most part.
If u read all of that thank you 🥺💗 I’m going to try and come back to these girls and develop more of a Plot and some VILLAINS and stuff, along with their ace monster designs…:3c I just thought it’d be fun to have a series that could go from filling in gaps of plot between the already established series, and being historical dramas the next ‘episode’ pfft. Also since vampires were established As Canon in GX I want to include them somehow. Scream Queen Majo VS A Real Vampire. I just wanted to add that 😌

Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal Animation Directors
This is a compilation based on information found in here and cross-checked in the anime (not all episodes, sorry), also using information from ANN and the Wiki. These 6 directors are the ones featured in more episodes than others.
Commentaries and a comprehensible list of all animation directors in Yugioh Zexal under the cut.
EDIT: apparently the original blog where I found the list was hacked and the page erased, I’ll add the cached version at the end of this post!
Edit 2: FOUND THE BLOG AGAIN! They changed names but the list is still up!
Akemi Yokota is who I think of when picturing an animation director that gives personality and uniqueness to this show, and is one of my favorite animation directors in Yugioh Zexal. Some of my favorite episodes by this director are #20- Number 96 debut; #38- Number 96 sealed again and #111- Astral vs 96; #119- Yuma vs Eliphas.
Kenichi Hara is another particularly amazing (and favorite of mine) animation director who worked in very important episodes (and some personal favorites) such as #17- first CNo; #24- Zexal I debut; #49- Yuma loses his Kattobingu; #67- Astral eats for the first time; #98- Zexal II (and Dark Zexal) debut and #121- Yuma's shining draw.
Momoko Makiuchi has a very nice style, with plump noses and lips, and very expressive faces. This director is also responsible for some of my favorite episodes such as #86- Yuma vs Alito; #101- Astral vs 96 first duel; #123- that one now kiss scene; #140 and #145- series finale.
Honorable mentions: Shuuji Maruyama for that amazing sequence on #143 (which was made by Hironori Tanaka actually, but not credited. Tanaka is a very famous animation director in Japan thanks to how action scenes are done). Takahiro Kagami because he is the hand god of Yugioh and we were blessed with his scenes in episode #144. Hidekazu Ebina’s style is very cool even though only 3 episodes were credited to this director. Hiroki Harada did not work in the series itself but was the animation director for most openings, such a nice style.
Not much to talk about the following directors because they either don’t stand out for me, or I’m not particularly interested in their style but added anyway because of the number of episodes they directed in the series: Noh Gil-Bo is praised and with a reason, this director’s style is very peculiar, also the one who directed episodes the most. Keita Saito has a generic anime style and the characters look more childlike. Kazunori Takahashi has a more cartoonish feel and directed some of the funny/gag episodes.
Now for the list of animation directors. In brackets, the episode number; in square brackets, the other YGO series the director was featured. They are listed in order of appearance.

otp meme: datastorm, and I'm an indecisive trashcan so I say... all? or at least as many as you want/can?
*sob* I’m so glad the first two Anons for this meme want me to give Stardust Boi so much love I’m appreciative. 👏😭 (listen I love making fun of Ryoken, but also. he needs hugs.)
also giving me the opportunity to gush about Datastorm that much.... Giving me too much power here, Anon. >:3c
(I omitted #19-21 and #26-27 tho mostly b/c I didn’t think those questions would apply to them dlkafjalksdjf)
(also this REALLY got lengthy and tumblr won’t save the read more cut for whatever reason so sorry y’all aSDLKFASLFKASJF)
For the OTP Question Meme!!
1. Who is the most affectionate?
def Yusaku. like he would drown Ryoken in affection ok. (after the initial “do I really want to be that physically close” + finding out Ryoken’s boundaries phase lmao)
2. Big spoon/Little spoon?
good thing I just looked this up ‘cause I was like “I have no hecking idea what this means.” lmao
anyway, Yusaku’s big spoon, Ryoken’s little spoon don’t change my mind.
3. Most common argument?
Going on the “Ryoken has severe mental health problems thanks to his asshole dad + once he realizes his dad was indeed an asshole” train, Stardust Boi has a tendency to be super self-deprecating, and this freaks Yusaku out a bit, so he just. Unleashes a tirade of compliments on the guy.
And Stardust Boi’s like “No I’m not. No. No. That’s not true.” until Yusaku hugs him to get him to stop. Usually works for the time-being. :3c
4. Favorite non-sexual activity?
BESIDES CARD GAMES? Taking naps. Particularly naps on the floor. Particularly with Yusaku sleeping on top of Ryoken. Actually it’s more like Yusaku sleeping on top of him and Ryoken just staring at him while smiling the entire time.
5. Who is most likely to carry the other?
I mean, not that Yusaku ever does it, but he probably could carry Ryoken if he ever wanted to.
6. What is their favorite feature of their partner’s?
*sharp inhale* AAAAAAAA -
Ryoken about Yusaku: the rare (to him) and elusive Super Soft Yusaku Egao(tm). Gives him butterflies every damn time.
Yusaku about Ryoken: oddly specific, but Ryoken’s hair when it’s just washed (which is.... not everyday lets say. b/c he doesn’t need to. he’s a thick-hair boi) and conditioned. it’s like Supreme Soft(tm) at that point and Yusaku likes running his fingers through it (after Ryoken’s like “YOUR HANDS BETTER BE CLEAN I S2G” + Yusaku’s like “what do you take me for.”)
7. What’s the first thing that changes when they realize they have feelings for the other?
uh about Yusaku, just watch VRAINS like right when he realizes Revolver-sama’s That Person(tm) i’m pretty sure the answer’s there. //punted
I’M KIDDING.
Definitely the way they refer to each other IRL. RIP calling each other Playmaker + Revolver in real life. But then they’d just stick to surnames @ first b/c calling each other by first names? woah there.
But then, Ryoken’s actually the one who says Yusaku’s name first (probably right before he confesses his feelings) + Yusaku’s like “did u just.”
8. Nicknames? & if so, how did they originate?
I...really don’t see them as the “giving each other disgustingly cute nicknames” couple lmao.
now them doing that is a different story but
9. Who worries the most?
Yusaku. Poor guy. With a guy like Ryoken tho, I don’t blame him lmao.
10. Who remembers what the other one always orders at a restaurant?
Omg Ryoken hands down. Like he’s probably got Yusaku’s orders memorized to the condiment preferences for different meals of the day at different restaurants 😂 And Yusaku gets so embarrassed about it asdlkfalkjdf.
11. Who tops?
SADLFKJSALKFJ WAIT WASN’T THERE DISCOURSE ABOUT THIS FOR DATASTORM A WHILE AGO IN THE VRAINS FANDOM? Glad I didn’t get asked this then.... 😂😂😂 heckin’ rip.
Ok, this is gonna get super specific but uh, the gist of it is.... it depends, really? (as it should)
So like, if Ryoken + Yusaku are both in a good mood and are just like “hey we haven’t done this in a while” kind of thing, it’s Ryoken.
If Yusaku’s kinda down but still up for it, also Ryoken.
But if Ryoken’s the one who’s down, it’s Yusaku.
And then that once in a blue moon moment where both somehow get horny af . . . Yusaku. 😂👏👏
and those are my two cents *drops mic*
12. Who initiates kisses?
Ryoken! I mean, I think Yusaku’s affectionate (*gestures @ #1 answer lmao*), but he’d let Stardust Boi take the lead in the kissing department b/c.... well he never knows what he’s gonna get there, so..... 😂
13. Who reaches for the other’s hand first?
ok I know this probably goes against episode 105 when Yusaku just looked at Aoi’s hand like “tf am I supposed to do with that”, but I’m sure Yusaku would reach for Ryoken’s hand first. It wouldn’t be like a gradual “reaching toward the hand” thing either. Yusaku would just. Speed-grab it like “it’s mine now”. 😂
bonus: so like if Yusaku does that while they’re sitting or something, Ryoken will massage his hand by rubbing little circles into his palm. CUTE DATASTORM AMIRITE?!?!?!
14. Who kisses the hardest?
DEFINITELY Ryoken. hot damn lmao.
15. Who wakes up first?
Ryoken. He wakes up at super weird hours too like boi do u even sleep.
16. Who wants to stay in bed just a little longer?
Yusaku~ <3 also he definitely tries to keep Ryoken in bed with him too lmao.
17. Who says I love you first?
ok this is kind of a tough call, but Yusaku, I’d think.
18. Who leaves little notes in the other’s one lunch? (Bonus: what does it usually say?)
Yusaku definitely leaves notes for Ryoken <3 Just a simple “have a great day ^w^” usually suffices lmao.
....yes Yusaku would def write ^w^ don’t change my mind.
22. Who cooks more/who is better at cooking?
ok so originally I was gonna put Yusaku and leave it at that, but then I realized that it’s possible BOTH of them are hopeless in the cooking department. But, I guess Yusaku would still be my answer b/c at least he knows how to read the instructions on microwavable stuff.
23. Who comes up with cheesy pick up lines?
RYOKEN.....AND HIS PICK UP LINES ARE LITERALLY SO BAD.....LMAO. But of course Yusaku loves them + falls for them every time b/c of course he does.
24. Who whispers inappropriate things in the other’s ear during inappropriate times?
Yeah still Ryoken dlsafaklsfja. Followed by Yusaku blushing like mad.
25. Who needs more assurance?
Ryoken...... Good thing Yusaku is an understanding cotton candy boi 💖
28. What do they do when they’re away from each other?
they’re like. super big into FaceTime (or whatever the VRAINS universe equivalent app would be) whenever both of them are up to talking a lot that way (which isn’t often b/c lmao introverts.) But they both know they need their alone time, so.
29. one headcanon about this OTP that breaks your heart
......hello darkness my old friend..... (EVEN THO I TECHNICALLY DON’T HAVE TO ANSWER THIS BUT. alas. I am a fic writer.)
anyway y’all remember how VRAINS used to emphasize that Yusaku had nightmares for a decade about the Lost Incident?
well, considering Dr. Kogami (fuck him) let his own son listen to the sounds of screaming children as they’re electrocuted, I’m damn sure Ryoken has nightmares about that and has problems sleeping b/c of it, even having a few panic attacks. Yusaku can help him with those (b/c he’s been there), but he’s not sure what else to do other than be like “Ryoken pls go to therapy I beg you.”
(but Ryoken refuses to go b/c he really thinks talking about it w/ a complete stranger makes it worse)
anyway super unrelated to this entire meme, but wow, fuck you Dr. Kogami.
30. one headcanon about this OTP that mends it
ok but relating to the above, imagining Ryoken finally decides to go to therapy b/c Yusaku keeps insisting. And with the first few sessions, Ryoken gets worn out with every session b/c “wow emotions I didn’t know I had.” But Yusaku, being the real sweet boi that he is, always waits for him and always gives him a long hug. \ .D. / YAY HUGS.

It seems as though this team assembling is a lot slower paced than I thought since so far, Go JUST got involved in this whole thing and the relations between all three are based on shared goals and rivalry rather than straight up friendship(though i hope it will develop into it). How do you feel about this direction? Personally I am interested in this team dynamic and how it can go so far.
I like it! I think this makes sense given the sorts of characters we’re talking about.
We know that Yusaku is distant and doesn’t have many social skills to speak of; his interactions with Aoi in episode 6 and Naoki throughout have shown us that he sort of sucks at making friends, even when he needs to for reconnaissance reasons. He kinda blew it with Aoi for the foreseeable future; we have no indication that Akira told her Yusaku was the one who found her and took her to the hospital, so I don’t think she’d entertain talking to him again unless he gave her the whole truth. But that would require outing himself as Playmaker, which we know he absolutely would not do (at least not at this stage). So Yusaku and Aoi’s potential friendship is on hold for now, at least until the KoH is defeated.
And because Yusaku doesn’t want to out himself, he has no excuse use to reach out to Go. You could also say the same for Aoi. And my balls-to-the-walls theory aside, Go doesnt knew who Playmaker and Blue Angel are; he has no reason to approach these two random highschoolers.
So it looks like they’re gonna build ties with each other in Link Vrains first. They’re facing the Knights “together” now, but split up to do so; still, this is a step in the right direction. Things are really high stakes now so unless they’re somehow able to fight the final boss together, they’re not really going to be able to build up any personal relationships for the time being. That’s probably going to be reserved for after the KoH goes down; what triggers it at that point is anyone’s guess.
