We had heard about conspiracies against hemp and now we are in the middle of experiencing it. Banks VS Hemp Businesses: The saga continues with banks giving us trouble about being a hemp business. And NOT just us; in the last 3 weeks, we have heard from so many hemp businesses all over the country, big and small, that their bank accounts and insurance policies have been terminated. What’s going on? The latest for us is Washington Federal Credit Union. After our bank closed our account and US Bank said they couldn’t provide service to us, many people suggested credit unions as the solution and gave us referrals, etc. (which we are extremely thankful for). We talked to several and finally set up an account with Washington Federal Credit Union on October 16, 2017. We had told them of our banking challenges; they assured us that they welcomed our hemp business and there was absolutely no problem with us selling organic hemp clothing and food products as far as they are concerned. Well, on Halloween (October 31, 2017), barely two weeks after we had opened an account with them, we received this terse letter from Washington Federal staying that our account is being terminated as of November 15, 2017. ???? Talk about a complete turnaround! Look at the nice notes they sent us after opening our account with them for reference. Washington Federal betraying their own slogan of “Invested Here”? Of course, we called them right away to ask what was going on. Nothing. They would not give us any info as to why our account was suddenly closed. If somebody knows something, please share! We are reaching out to the industry and government officials to find out why this is happening. In 2018 farmers grew more than 78,000 acres of industrial Hemp, which is three times as many acres of the crop compared to the previous year,  the advocacy group VoteHemp reported. In 2016 the total was under 10,000 acres. We can expect another massive surge in 2019 thanks to the new Farm Bill and Hemp's legalization. Now that more and more people are starting to understand the potential benefits of CBD and Hemp has been removed from the Controlled Substances Act, the demand for Hemp is expected to increase and it is projected that at least 125,000 acres of Hemp will be planted in 2019! 🌱
