Sorry for the political spam, guys. I'm just terrified; and reminding people to vote is the only microscopic semblance of control I've got. 😎

Oh look, it seems like there's a Republican-led movement to purge voter rolls in the lead-up to the election! It's almost as if your vote matters and they don't want you to vote! Anyway, I whipped up a quick map (based on this) that shows when the voter registration deadline is in each state. There are a few deadlines coming up in the next week or so.
If you live in a state that regularly purges voter rolls for infrequent voters (the orange ones in the first map), or if you moved recently, it's good to check if you're still registered to vote.
Vote.org makes it super easy to check your registration: https://www.vote.org/am-i-registered-to-vote/
Just put in your address and DOB and they'll tell you whether you're registered. (And they give you a quick link to register online if it turns out that you're not! Only the 9 states in white on my map don't have online registration, and for those they provide instructions on how to do it via mail or in person.) If you want an extra verification, find your state's election website and double-check there.
So yeah, give yourself peace of mind -- do a quick check. :)

Today in 🍂✨October surprises✨🍂
Tumblr media
• Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg and Secretary of Labor Julie Su quietly assisted in winning labor rights for dockworkers, ending a strike that could have had catastrophic economic consequences. (10-4-24)
• In Springfield, Ohio, where Haitian migrants have been blamed for the disappearance of local animals with Trump claiming “‘migrants are walking off’ with geese in the town” and “they’re eating the dogs” - a lie also promoted by JD Vance, Ohio’s own sitting Senator, with no evidence - it turns out that the missing geese were actually the victims of a 64-year-old white man who was hunting illegally. (10-3-24)
• A Trump-appointed federal judge blocked Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan again after another judge reinstated it earlier this week. (10-3-24)
• Republicans and crazy Facebook uncles everywhere have spent this week spreading disinformation about the FEMA response to Hurricane Helene, including AI photos of Trump standing in floodwater and wild claims that Biden is sending money to undocumented immigrants. In reality, the Biden-Harris administration has provided substantial emergency assistance and both Biden and Harris have visited the region. Meanwhile, it turns out that Trump was the one who redirected money from disaster relief to send to ICE during his presidency. Shocker. (10-4-24)
• Seriously, though, Trump is not who you want to call in an emergency. Before allowing disaster relief to reach victims of wildfires in California, then-president Trump forced aides to show him an electoral map to see if he had voters there. He evidently intended to withhold the aid if he found out it was going to mostly Democratic voters. This would be a career-ending scandal in any other political era but alas, we are living in this one. (10-3-24)
• Finally, far-right extremist and Oklahoma superintendent of schools Ryan Walters intends to put Bibles in public schools, which is already disturbing, but in a stunning display of corruption, the only ones that meet his specifications are the so-called “Trump Bibles” that include the Constitution and Declaration of Independence. They go for $60 apiece and Trump gets fees from each one. (10-4-24)
No, wait, I’m going to say that one again:
In Oklahoma, taxpayers’ money will be used to put Trump Bibles in public schools. Their money will go directly to Trump. Not a joke!!! Not an exaggeration!!!
…Surely the voters who are still undecided are lying, right?? Right?!
30 days until Election Day.

Go to vote.org for a sample ballot, early voting dates, and more. Seriously, we have to win.

Hey, just so you know, USA today is predicting that Trump is going to win the election in the United States that’s happening less than a month away. So if you don’t want a second Trump term, you might want to make sure that you’re registered at vote.org and to find out where your polling place is and all that other good stuff. It is a very big gamble to assume Harris has this in the bag. Even if she’s not your ideal candidate, the possibility that we may have Donald Trump is very real. Thus, this is the time that you need to really take stock of, if you’re not already definitely voting for Harris, are her negatives worth risking a second Donald Trump term because someone is going to become president and it very well might not be Kamala. Please vote.

I've been thinking about voter suppression since yesterday. Specifically about ID requirements to vote, because I got a notification in the mail yesterday that my license expires on my birthday and it's going to cost $129 to renew. And according to the DOL I can get a reduced fee card for $25 but it's unclear if this is a license or just an ID card. When I look around the DOL website it refers you to the department of social and health services but a search of their website turns up NOTHING about this program so I can't figure out if I can get a license for a reduced fee.
Not only that, but there's two types of ID cards in Washington, regular IDs and "enhanced" IDs. An enhanced ID is required for re-entry into the US at land and sea border crossings. Starting in 2025 it'll also be required for domestic air travel. Even if I were to get this discounted card, which may or may not be a license, if I want it to be an enhanced ID I'd have to pay an extra $7 for each year it's valid. Washington does 6 and 8 year ID cards. So if I want to be able to go anywhere by plane, I am paying at least $67 for an ID card that, again, I cannot tell if it's actually a license or just an ID.
I really wish a percentage of that $129 went towards a fee waiver for enhanced driver's licenses. I would gladly pay for that. Because this is outrageous. I could get a passport for that much money.
And you know, to me, if I just needed an ID to vote and nothing else, $25 is doable. But to some people it's not. The most vulnerable people in society shouldn't have to choose between eating and being able to vote.
Requiring ID for voting is a form of voter suppression that affects the most vulnerable in our society. The people who need the most help. Not to mention the fact that voter ID laws disproportionately affect people of color.
Expand voting access! Enable voting by mail! And while we're at it, incorporate ranked choice voting!
If you want to support efforts to expand voting access, vote.org is a bipartisan independent charity organization working on that front. They score highly on charity navigator. They also have an easy tool to double check that you are still registered to vote because there's a history of people's registrations being purged. So it's good to check and I recommend you do.

Out-of-kink reminder:
If you're in the US - and especially if you live or vote in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, or Wisconsin - vote for Kamala Harris on Tuesday, November 5th. (Or before!)
If you're not registered to vote yet, you can still register in Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, and Wisconsin - check out vote.org to find out how.
I love writing fiction about forced breeding, but unfortunately, Republicans actually exist, and really do want to bring about unfathomable depths of horror in the name of being "pro-life". Roe v. Wade was overturned because Trump got to appoint three Supreme Court justices, and that won't be the end of it if he gets another shot.
I know many people reading this are sickened by the idea of voting for Harris because of the Biden administration's failure to restrain Netanyahu and his cronies from committing atrocities in Gaza and Lebanon, and I sympathize - but unfortunately, one of two people is going to be president in 2025, and on this issue as with every other, Trump is far worse. (Netanyahu himself clearly wants Trump to win.) In my view, voting is always tactical - a little bit of power to push towards the world you want, even if you'll end up far from it. There's no power in throwing up your hands and declaring that both candidates are too terrible to touch.
And finally, as a practical note: if you like my writing, consider that I and many other kinksters will probably be in absolutely no mood for it for quite a while if the election goes badly. Vote, in the name of perversion!

Hey, Amtrack!
I hope this isn't a weird ask but you have a large following and I was wondering if you wouldn't mind reminding folks who can vote in the US electon this November to check their registration and voter deadlines. I know several states like Ohio has unregistered thousands of people on technicallity rules the goverments seemingly pulled out of their asses.
I'm watching my NYS registration like a hawk on Vote.org but others can go to this website
https://www.usa.gov/voter-registration-deadlines
To know when their state closes registration.
People who have moved this year or had a name change or basicically any minor legal change to their legal IDs like a driver's licence seem to be affected and of course their old fashioned changing up districts particularly for neighborhoods that are made up in majority by folks of color.
Thanks!
Voting is always important to do, even if you have issues with the presidential canidates, you should vote in the local, state, and Congressional elections
So make sure you're registered to vote

Hey there! I wanted to put together a post for people here in the USA to give you some tangible steps for supporting Palestine including links to resources for them.
If you're not registered to vote or you're not sure whether or not you are, you can go here to vote.org. You can check whether or not you're registered AND register on there. You have the right and power to vote, and you should use it!
Here you can find out who your state representatives are at house.gov using your zip code. This website will include a link to your representatives' website, and I highly recommend going there as well to see what their stances are, especially right now on Palestine. Their website should also include contact information. You should check your senators' sites and stances as well.
You should call your state representatives and senators and voice your support for Palestine.
You should condemn the violence against Palestinians perpetrated by Israel and state your disgust and anger with the USA allowing and supporting Israel in carrying out these atrocities.
You should specifically state you will not vote for candidates that will not support Palestine through legislation.
You can choose which companies you give your money to! Please check here for what brands BDS is encouraging consumers to boycott for supporting Israel. And participate in the boycott!
Here is a post providing a simple to do email campaign to voice your support for Palestine it only takes a minute.
Here are trusted organizations that you can donate to.
And importantly, please stay as informed as you can. Listen to activists. It is from multiple activists I follow and check their pages regularly that I learned these steps to making an impact. Voice your support for Palestine. Call your reps. Boycott brands. Keep up with the people who are informed and can inform you on your best course of action to support Palestine.
I greatly appreciate people adding additional resources to this post if they're so inclined and additional tips or criticism of my advice as well is welcome if there's something I missed or should change.

How do I find out about local elections? I only ever hear about them when they're done? Also do I have to fill out the whole ballot for it to he counted, like if the only person to vote for in 1 category i don't agree with can I not vote for that guy and have the rest of the ballot be? counted?
So when they are is going to depend on where you live. Like Ballotpedia might have some information but Vote.org has a notification thing you can sign up for. Your state may have more specific resources too (like Wisconsin has MyVote).
Honestly what you really want to do is use your local resources. Check your city and county websites, as well as pay attention to your local news. Everywhere is different, so I can't give you a single solution -- but none of this is really hiding once you know where to start looking.

Last message for the election:
- If you have any issues, you can call or text the voter protection + assistance hotline 24/7 and after-hour messages will be returned as soon as it reopens: 8666878683 (866 OUR VOTE)
- Sites like http://vote.org may help you navigate all of this.
- If you mailed a ballot, please check to make sure it was received: http://ballottrax.com
If it wasn't or it was rejected, most places will let you cast a provisional ballot at your polling place. I recommend bringing ID.
If you haven't mailed it yet, please drop it off instead or hand it in at your polling place to vote traditionally, and if you do still want to vote with the mail-in, please follow its instructions carefully.
- Each county has different rules about voting, and red states keep introducing all sorts of legislation that makes it difficult to keep track of, so please check in advance in case your state now requires ID, the polling place has relocated, its hours changed, you can't wear or do certain things, etc. A decent polling place will let everyone who is in line by closing time vote.
- There will be judge races and amendments (many for protecting/restoring queer + repro rights) in some areas- you can look up a sample ballot beforehand or just "[your county name] 2024 primary candidates and propositions" and then see who endorses them (or message me and I'll look it up).
- VoteRiders provides free rides to everywhere involved in voting, and they'll pay any fees. There's others, too, like http://rideshare2vote.com for blue voters and http://ridetothepoll.com (The Lyft code LWV2024 is a last resort because they're limited.)
- You can find virtual and in-person volunteer opportunities for blue campaigns across the country at http://mobilize.us and https://volunteerblue.org/take-action-ballot-cure that continue after 11/5 in some states!
- Lastly, if you're planning on abstaining or writing "uncommitted," please check out VoteSwap as an alternative- someone in a fully red state will trade with you so that you don't hazard ushering in Project 2025.
Please feel free to repost anywhere.

Since a lot of us have recently been trying to raise awareness about registering to vote/checking to make sure your registration was processed/checking to make sure you haven't been erroneously purged from the voter rolls, I figured I'd tell you all the saga that is Lin Tries To Register To Vote.
To set the scene: I recently moved to a new state. I don't have an ID issued by my new state yet (and I probably won't get one, since I'm planning on moving back to my home state within a year). In the state I currently live in, you can do online voter registration if you have an ID issued by this state, but not if you have an ID from somewhere else. If you have an ID from somewhere else, you can still register to vote, but only in person at the county clerk's office, and you have to provide proof of address, such as a utility bill for your current address.
So, two and a half weeks ago, I went in person to the county clerk's office and submitted voter registration paperwork. It took longer than I expected because I hadn't been able to find the requirements for registering anywhere online, so I didn't bring proof of address with me and spent a while trying to remember my password for my car insurance app, but whatever. I eventually filled everything out to the clerk's satisfaction, and she said she'd get it filed.
I figured I should give it a week or two before I checked whether I was actually registered, because I know that transferring physical paperwork to an online database is not an immediate thing. But I checked today on both my state's voter registration site and on vote.org, and neither place could find me as a registered voter.
After seeing I wasn't registered, I called the county clerk's office and asked when I should expect my registration to be processed. The person I spoke with said two and a half weeks was more than long enough, so something had probably gone wrong. Over the course of multiple phone calls (the clerk had to check on some things and call me back), here's what I found out:
I had missed the mandatory space on the form to fill out my birthplace, and no one had noticed when I filed the paperwork, so my paperwork had been marked incomplete and had been set aside. No one had been planning on contacting me about the omission; I was just not going to get to vote because I missed a line on the form.
Additionally, there is someone else with my same first and last name who also recently registered to vote in this county, and we have very similar signatures. Despite the fact that we have different social security numbers, different birth dates, and different addresses, the resemblance between our signatures (I literally just write my name in cursive, so it's not hard to imagine how someone else with the same name could sign the same way) was enough to convince the county clerk's office that we were probably the same person. They had been planning on consolidating both voter registration applications into one voter record, so for voting purposes only one of us would exist--probably the other person, since I missed the birthplace line on the form.
Despite having filled out the voter registration form to the satisfaction of the clerk I spoke with two and a half weeks ago, I was not ever going to wind up on the voter rolls of my new state if I hadn't checked whether I was registered and called my county clerk's office when I saw that I wasn't registered. No one was going to tell me that I had messed up my form, or ask whether I was the same person as the one who had filed a voter registration form with the same name but a different address, social security number, and birth date. It was up to me to contact the county clerk and check what was wrong.
Moral of the story: USAmericans who should be eligible to vote, register to vote, check whether you're registered, and contact your local elections officials (county clerk or whoever) if it looks like you're not registered even though you should be. Something may have gone wrong with your voter registration form, or you may have been intentionally purged from the rolls, and no one will tell you if you don't ask. So make sure you're registered. And then VOTE.
