Mines is Witch Ann she's so ADORABLE, also she has brown hair which is pretty odd but I like it
BUT THE CAT PRINT IS SOOO FUNNY THEY LOOK LIKE GOOBERS OMG!!!!
The brown hair isn't strange at all, Raggedy Ann started out with brown hair!
These are Volland dolls, the first mass-manufactured ones.
As far as my favorite alternate costume, I don't know if this counts since it was never made into a doll, but I am in LOVE with the Sweetheart Sluggers concept and I wish it had become a doll design.
And honorable mention to the Dolls of the Month series, they have very cute outfits:
Took a trip to Turn of the Century Antiques! This was Raggedy heaven for me because there were SO MANY volland dolls!! I even got to hold the store display dolls!

So I have a bit of an announcement for you Raggedy Ann fans :)
I've decided that I'm going to make a complete rough draft storyboard for an animated version of RagDolly!! :D
This is mostly for myself cause I want to prove to myself that I can stay committed to a project but I also want to make the story more accessible to people!
I understand that there are more fans for the animated movie so I thought that it would bring even more attention to the Broadway musical if there was a semi-animated version. That and there's a few story details that aren't clear enough in the ESIPA recording either because of weird directing or lighting or just the fact that they were limited to a stage and could push the point across because of that.
Here's some concepts I've made :)
I wanted to give Raggedy Ann and Andy a design that looks like the Volland dolls so it's more believable that they were homemade. Also according to the people of RARE, no one draws the Vollands like... ever. So I did!
So yeah! This WILL take a LOOOONG time. So don't expect to see this anytime soon. I'll definitely post progress and teasers though. Anyway, wish me luck! I've got a lot of work to do!
mod antique doll may be better equipped to answer this question (she’s a bit of a raggedy history aficionado), but the simple answer is that after the volland company went out of business, the license to produce raggedy ann and andy dolls was essentially up for grabs. while johnny gruelle was busy negotiating a contract with the exposition company, a woman named molly-e goldman began marketing and selling her own raggedy ann and andy dolls without johnny’s permission. this led to a pretty intense legal battle between gruelle and goldman that actually resulted in gruelle’s death from a stress-induced heart attack in 1938. ultimately, though, the court case won in the gruelles’ favor, and while johnny’s widow myrtle went on to license the raggedy dolls to georgene (the exposition raggedy ann didn’t last very long, sadly), some aspects of the molly-e dolls carried over into later dolls, most notably the “i love you” heart on the dolls’ chest.
A new addition to my doll collection! I decided that I wanted two pairs of Raggedys, the Revival pair and a pair that match the original illustrations. This is the start of storybook Ann. She is made using the same pattern as scarecrow Ann. She has brown acrylic hair, glass eyes, and her legs are a thinner stripe and her feet are black to match the book cover. Her clothes will also match the book, and I have ordered vintage fabric for her dress. Her heart is made of wood, and is inserted into her body like what is described in the story, as well as being the same method as the volland dolls. It will be able to be felt under her clothing.
hello! hi! here's a nice ask for y'all. what's the most unique raggedy ann/andy doll you've seen? i know there are a lot of different companies like volland and aurora that have made them and lots of outfits and themes over the years, so there's quite a bit of variety!
People have been talking about the Dankin witch Ann a lot, which I think is cute! But I have more fun ones that people haven't seen.
Not a doll exactly but these 70's ventriloquist dummies for sure. I just need to curse more people with them.
Speaking of Volland, love these 1920's Uncle Clem and Percy the Policeman dolls from back when they actually made other characters from the books!
Using this as Exposition Raggedy Ann propaganda. Probably the most literally unique Raggedy Ann doll out there, they were manufactured for less than a year in the 30's. Doll appraisal books can't even put a price on them, they are that rare!
Thank you for the lovely ask! Maybe some of the other mods will want to chime in too.
