Today's experimentation with my synth and drum machine:

eh sod it, think i'll put my weird musical experiments here too. made these a while ago, all of it is loosely inspired by Cruelty Squad (that being, i binged the game and was possessed by some entity and couldn't stop until i produced these). it's all very experimental (read: not very good at all), but may be curious to some. link to my soundcloud album above, spoilered the rest as the embedding looks wack on here

New cover! Fight Against an Armed Boss, from Super Mario RPG! One of my all-time favorite soundtracks, so i hope I did it justice 😁

this is a really short piece, so I played three loops and drastically changed the instrumentation each time:

first pass: synths! So many synths. I think… four? Ish? I had my Minilogue, my Artium Swarm, my Volca, and my Mega Synthesis (that one is specifically supposed to emulate the sound card from a Sega Genesis, so I found it amusing to have that be some of the leads on a piece from the SNES), and honestly I forget if I had any others or if I used any of those more than once.

second pass is when I brought in the weird stuff. That’s when I brought in the harp, a couple xylophones (it’s a Yoko Shimomura song so of course I had to do some mallet percussion!), the melodica, my bass taishogoto, and the Chompi (I sampled my voice and then mangled it until it turned into that ghostly choir).

third pass is the electric guitars!!

and of course there were a couple other instruments too (drums and such) but that’s the bulk of it. All in all, a lot more work than I originally expected, but I’m proud of the results!
