I didn’t set out to post two Spanish labels in a row, but here I am.  Guerssen Records is out of Catalonia.  I posted a short blurb about the amazing Voigt/365 LP in early June.
Paul Martin was a musician from the late 60s and there is definitely a garage/pop 60s sound here.  To me, it reminds me of early Love the most.  The Optic Nerve is a later touchstone as well.
Perhaps the best thing about this post is the fact that Forced Exposure carries so much of the Guerssen catalogue.  This label specializes in amazing/obscure reissues.

Voigt/465 -- “State” -- from Slights Still Unspoken, the Mental Experience reissue of 1978′s Slights Unspoken.
Voigt/465 was an avant-garde Australian post-punk band active between 1976 and 1979, whose frantic style also had a noticeable krautrock influence.  Slights Unspoken was their only LP.

Slights Still Unspoken (Selected Recordings 1978-1979) by Voigt/465
Voight/465 - Slights Still Unspoken
Wiry, angular, late 70′s post-punk from Sydney, reissued on Spain’s Guerssen Records. Inventive, raw and just straight awesome. -Kris

1979: Post-Punk
Ian’s Musicophilia blog delivers a prequel of sorts to the legendary 1981 post-punk mix: “seven all-new mixes, featuring 112 artists and groups, totaling about eight hours of the wide-reaching, barrier-breaking, future-shaping sounds.” Praise the lord.

Erika Elizabeth spends the end of another decade by digging into the margins of post-punk, no wave, and weirdo DIY from the last forty or so years.

Voigt/465 (Sydney, Australia) is a band far ahead of its time.  First, look at the name.  What kind of name is that...honestly?  Then listen to the music.  To me, this sounds like something current - it is hard to believe that this is 1978-79.
That said, I can hear the influence of Talking Heads, Rush, and Roxy Music.  I can also hear the influence this band had on the likes of The Dentists, Marine Girls, and Ted Leo and his ilk.
This is a reissue on Guerssen Records (Spain).

recommended digital releases, june 30th
a large majority of the music i listen to these days is done at work through a premium spotify subscription. the hardest part seems to be trying to remember when an album i’ve been anticipating finally comes out on whatever random friday.
i figure i’m not the only one so every friday i’m aiming to post five new releases from the past week (or so) as well as five recent releases from the past couple months that are available through spotify (and presumably the other streaming platforms).
new releases from the past week (or so):
the beach boys "1967- sunshine tomorrow" on capitol [spotify] the new 2xcd beach boys compilation focuses on 1967 and the sessions surrounding the fantastic "wild honey" album. in addition to the first full stereo mix of the album it adds a bunch of outtakes, alternate versions and session/tracking highlights. it also includes the unreleased (mostly) live album "lei'd in hawaii" and other live tracks. sentimental moment #1 of the day- after getting married my wife and i walked back down the aisle to darlin' off "wild honey".
jesse "hard sky" on uniform group [spotify, bandcamp] jesse jenkins of pure x/pure ecstasy drops his first solo album "hard sky". it calls to mind yacht rock and eighties synths without the ironic detachment of destroyer's "kaputt".
needles//pins "goodnight, tomorrow" on dirt cult [spotify, bandcamp] needles//pins are a punk band from vancouver that give power pop songs a punk sheen with gruff vocals. i definitely get a replacements vibe too.
peter perrett "how the west was won" on domino [spotify, bandcamp] peter perrett fronted the only ones, a late seventies british band that wasn't quite punk but snarled more than those in the power pop scene. fans of the velvet underground, luna and yo la tengo should definitely tune in (sentimental moment #2-my wife chose yo la tengo's cover of the only ones "the whole of the law" for us to walk down the aisle when we got married). this is perrett's first solo album in twenty years and it sounds like no time has passed until he sings "just like everyone else i'm in love with kim karshdasian. she's taken over from jlo as my number one."
v/a "matinée idols" on matinée [spotify] matinée celebrates its twentieth anniversary with a compilation of exclusive tracks from the bands on its label covering indie pop, twee pop and synth pop. includes the first track from last leaves- a band comprised of three quarters of the lucksmiths (everyone except tali white) who have a new album out this fall.
slightly older stuff:
lynn castle "rose colored corner" on light in the attic [spotify] lynn castle released one single on lee hazlewood industries in 1967. a full album never materialized but she recorded a handful of acoustic demos with jack nitzsche. her lone single is tacked on the end to give you an idea of what might have been.
joe mcphee, damon smith and alvin fielder "six situations" on not two [spotify, bandcamp] damon smith and alvin fielder have frequently paired together on bass and drums over the past few years but this is their first recording with saxophonist joe mcphee. it was recorded live last fall in new york.
sea pinks "watercourse" on cass/flick [spotify, bandcamp] sea pinks fifth album continues riding the dreamy surf rock wave that i always enjoy so much.
suss cunts "suss cunts" ep on emotional response [spotify, bandcamp] the australian post-pop trio released their debut ep last summer and it now hits the states (and vinyl) courtesy of emotional response. five feministic pop songs that aren't afraid of expressing what they want or calling others on their shit.
voigt/465 "slights still unspoken 1978-1979" on mental experience [spotify, bandcamp] the new voigt/465 anthology combines the lone album and single of the australian post-punk band who falls into the same "late seventies weirdo" camp as family fodder and the homosexuals. in typical guerssen records fashion the spotify version is just a sampler from the whole thing.
