Dirty Monkey (Platonic SWK x Reader)

Summery: A regrettable insult leads Reader to give the Monkey King a bath and a little TLC.  

The Wukong in this story is based on Monkey King Reborn, and heavily inspired by @celestialkiri’s and @sixteenthchapel’s monkey boys. (I love their art and AUs so much, omg!) I also think calling the self-insert character ‘Reader’ is terribly clever, so I used that here.

Warnings / Triggers: None, a brief mention of naked monkey butt.

Reader overhears Wukong and Bajie bickering and throwing insults at each other as per usual. It’s a normal occurrence early in the journey. Most of the time these barbs roll off their backs and the only ones really bothered by their antagonism is Tang Sanzang, who just wants his disciples to get along. But this time Bajie goes a little too far.

“Dirty monkey,” Bajie sneers.

There’s an instant of silence, as if everyone knows he’s crossed a line, even Bajie. He starts to open his mouth to backtrack, even as Wukong’s expression goes frighteningly cold. The monkey’s muscles tense, his lips pulling back from his teeth. He’s ready to maul his fellow disciple.

“THAT’S ENOUGH.” Reader’s voice is rarely so loud. It crashes over them, crushing the tension with the force of a shockwave. There’s even a growl to her voice. The surprise is enough to break Wukong’s momentum; he’s never heard that tone of voice from Reader before.

Wukong will never admit it out loud but he loves these little hints of the steel in Reader’s spine.

“Both of you need to cool it,” Reader continues, fixing Bajie with a glare that makes him shuffle self-consciously before turning it on Wukong. The monkey huffs, refusing to feel reproached. But at least he decides to walk away, rather than continuing to fight or argue.

A few days later the travelers stop for a rest. Wukong has been even more abrasive and distant to the others than usual. While the rest of the little group is making camp, Reader finds the monkey some distance away, glaring at the horizon with his back hunched and the fur on the back of his neck bristled. Wuknong refuses to admit it but clearly Bajie’s crack about his hygiene hurt his pride.

That’s when Reader grabs his arm and pulls him off. Wukong of course tries to shrug her off, snapping at her to leave him alone. (He’s a king after all, he’s not about to be dragged around by his elbow like a child.) But Reader insists that he must come with her somewhere and her persistence gets him curious enough to relent.

She takes him to a secluded natural pool, and that’s when Wukong notices the little wooden bucket Reader brought along. She intends to make him bathe. He clues in really quick and can’t help feeling a little dejected.

“So you think I’m dirty too.”

He’s about to call her an idiot and go back to brooding on his own somewhere when she stops him.

“No. You just stink. You’re covered in dried blood and who knows what else from the last ten demons you fought.”

She’s got a point, as much as he hates to admit it. He tries grabbing the bucket from her, insisting that he wash without her supervision, but she keeps it out of his reach. Once again curiosity - and the not-so-secret fact that Wukong’s going a little soft on Reader - gets the better of him. Even so he grumbles as he allows himself to be ushered into the cool, clear water.

Wukong thinks shucking his clothes will scare the human woman off, and it does embarrass her enough to politely look the other way, but she doesn’t leave. (Don’t worry, Reader doesn’t see anything besides his bare backside for a few seconds. This is a SFW story. Also, LOL, monkey butt.)

To his surprise, Reader wades in after him. He tries not to look too interested in what she’s doing. He even tries objecting again when she takes some soap out of the bucket. But as soon as her gentle hands start working the sweet-smelling soap into his fur the demon monkey practically melts.

Neither of them say anything as Reader slowly and carefully washes Wukong’s back. It reminds him very much of when he was home on Flower Fruit Mountain. All the monkeys in the troop would groom each other, for both hygiene and socialization, and as the highest-ranking monkey of them all he was always given the most attention. There was a reason he was called ‘Handsome Monkey King’ after all. Back home he had been almost meticulous about taking care of his appearance, but since being on the road it had seemed less important.

So Wukong kneels in the water, while Reader stands behind him. The feeling of the human’s fingers gently working the blood and dust off his fur feels really, really good. The cool water is refreshing, and the soap smells a little like jasmine and sandlewood. Having someone groom him makes him feel like a real king again. And more than that it makes him feel a little homesick.

After a while, he can’t help but wonder out loud, “Why are you doing this?”

Reader pauses for a moment. She’s behind him so Wukong can’t see her smile, but he can hear it in her voice as she explains, “A dirty monkey is a monkey that’s unwanted and unloved. You are neither of those things, and I don’t want you to forget that.” Her arms encircle him from behind, and he feels her cheek press against the top of his head while she hugs him.

Wukong can’t remember the last time he was told he was loved and wanted so directly. Or the last time someone dared to embrace him! Certainly, it was long before he was imprisoned under a mountain for 500 years. For a moment he’s stunned into uncharacteristic speechlessness. Then he scoffs to cover the awkward moment of sentimentality. “Tch. Don’t be stupid. I know what I am.” The usual edge to Wukong’s voice isn’t as sharp, and the hand that he places over Reader’s gives the smallest, softest squeeze. Quietly he admits, “…It’s nice to be reminded though.”

The Monkey King won’t say the words, but Reader knows that he means ‘thank you’. And she’s glad to have lifted Wukong’s spirit a little.

Before the moment can get any more awkward, Reader steps back and grabs the bucket to rinse Wukong off - by dumping the bucket of water over his head!

“Hey!!” The demon sputters, shaking water from his eyes as he turns to glare at Reader. But she’s laughing so much it’s hard to stay angry and he starts chuckling too. He gets her back as they’re moving toward the shore by shaking the water off his fur and soaking her in the process.

They stay by the pool for the rest of the afternoon. While they dry off Reader washes Wukong’s clothes too. (And discovers the Monkey King never bothered to learn how to wash them himself. ‘That was what servants are for.’ No wonder they were so gross!) By the time they rejoin the others, Sun Wukong looks like a brand new demon.

Bajie immediately protests that it isn’t fair that Brother Monkey got a glow up, which strokes Wukong’s ego even more. The whole ‘dirty monkey’ slight is well behind him now.

After that, the Monkey King became a lot more mindful about the state of his fur and clothes while on the road. Every so often Wukong would plop himself down in front of Reader with his back to her. He wouldn’t say anything, but they both knew it was a silent request / demand for some grooming. Sometimes Reader found it a little annoying, especially if she was in the middle of something, but she always indulged him, combing her fingers through his fur until it was silky soft.

He never forgot what Reader said. He would make sure that no one ever had the chance to imply he was dirty. Sun Wukong was loved and wanted, and everyone should know it just by looking at him.

-it's one of those "i can clearly see he's still not a good guy, why aren't you believing me, what do you mean our circumstances are basically the same" type of monologues for swk. bro doesn't understand why this guy who tried to kill them a lil while ago is all buddy-buddy with his human now

-this is kinda an excuse to have a white-furred version of mac who's less of a snarky bastard and more....nice is NOT the right word, but he wants to help. like, help reader and the monk exclusively. he doesn't really care about the other four but can play nice if he has to

-reader vouched for him after the impersonation incident, which, along with the buddha's assistance, saved him from swk's wrath. reader's argument was something along the lines of, "he's endangered, AND we just so happen to be on a quest for redemption so he'll fit right in!"

-as lonely and grateful to be alive as he was, the six-eared macaque begged to join his savior on the quest. the pilgrims could do with another powerful demon companion, couldn't they? (and just to save some grief, im gonna say they catch him before he can cannibalize any of the ffm monkeys. i ain't messing with that.)

-all the pilgrims but sun have accepted him into the group

-mac latches onto reader pretty hard. she's nice, she doesn't judge him too hard (but she still judges him, like he deserves), she helps remind him to be kind, she remembers to keep her voice down when speaking to him...he's getting gradually more and more smitten.

-of course, swk HATES this. that's his human!! this is his journey!! why does this asshole get to tag along and continue his attempts to steal both!? wukong knows six-ears is just trying to get a rise out of him, just trying to get him to attack so he can play the victim.

- macaque is only sorta trying to do that. what he wants is reader's attention. and an easy way to get it is by being hurt or upset. he clocked reader as the bleeding heart type the moment he laid ears on her, so any chance he gets; he's hurt~ monkey king's being mean to him~ he's only trying to help~

That is Requiem AU SWK — the same SWK from my fanfic “Boy Savior” on AO3 — and the mask is of SWK’s own design. He carved and painted it himself. It moves when he speaks sometimes and the eyes glow depending on his mood (red = intense; gold = calm)

Heaven thinks it’s a muzzle but it’s really just a neat way of making himself intimidating without having to… physically attack or prey on someone. Like he doesn’t have to kill someone to prove to you she’s intimidating because the mask does a good job of that.

People think the mask makes his voice very deep and rumbly but it’s a side effect from being thrown in the brazen/boiler during Havoc in Heaven y’know.

Hi @fansids! Long time no talk! I did see you putting up some sketches of your lmk au, and and such I had to ask if you were thinking of having Sun Wukong's friends from jttw (the Macaque Demon King, the Snub-Nosed Monkey King, the Lion Camel King, etc.) make an appearance?

I'm so glad you ask, because yes!

They appear in the Reverse Prince Au. The only one who I got anywhere presentable in designing was the Macaque Demon King because monke. Ignore her weird proportions:

I can't usually imagine voices for characters all that well, but I feel strongly that she sounds like Shohreh Aghdashloo. She's been old since she and SWK met. The Demon Kings part of the story takes place in her territory of the LEGO equivalent of the Himalayas since thats where the Demon Kings congregated to meet about the whole LBD thing.

As for the story:

Plot-wise the Demon Kings were there to help against LBD, but I can't for the life of me remember the specifics of that plan since I never wrote it down. I am definitely regretting it...

Thematically they were part of Red Son's continuous journey of accepting all the parts of his less than stellar past, making peace with it, and moving on. More specifically about how he'll always be Princess Iron Fan and the Demon Bull King's son, and that's not something he can ignore as it comes to play hard in that part. They also worsen part of Qi Xiaotian's issues of constantly feeling like a placeholder for other people.

Also, minor thing, but Red Son is constantly referred to as the Demon Bull Prince in that arc, as he is the son of DBK. While Qi Xiaotian is the son of the false Sun Wukong, hence his original au being called the "False Prince AU." And both are treated accordingly, so that's fun.

Unless somebody's asked this before, what's would the swk's (minus 2023/netflix) react to Lin?

They probably think she's a really cool kid! Netflix/Cherry brings Lin around to a Wukongverse meeting (somehow), and the others SWK's are like "Oh thank Buddha, it's his one braincell besides the Stick."

Lin is rather confused, but figures that she should be used to it by now. Her monkey has dragged her along to different Realms before, whats a different dimrnsion compared to Hell?

She ends up hanging out with the other kids like MK, Mei, and HiB!Liuer, with the younger SWKs and LEMs chilling with her too.

Revelations occur when the other monkeys have questions...

Peach: "How do you know Lin exactly? Is she your tudi, or are you guys just good friends?" Cherry: "We're friends but its... complicated." Other SWKs: *sounds of interest/encouragement* Cherry: "So like... she's the first person to show me geniune empathy and kindness, buuuut she also sentenced me under the mountain. Soooo bummer." *cricket noises* Smokey: "What." Cherry: "Yeah it was kinda weird. I think I was power-drunk or something cus all I remember is that she became the voice of Buddha and did the Leap from my Palm trick. Then cue the mountain. She said bye though, so that was cool." *more shocked silence* Dasheng: "...thats not normal." Starfruit: "YEAH. Mortals don't just do that." Peach: "Wait... is Lin your monk?" Cherry: "No, I have a Tripitaka. He showed up like 500 years later." All the SWK who understand reincarnation: *deep inhales* Ace: "Your friend is a Golden Cicada. " Cherry: "A what now?" Smokey: "Seriously!? Don't you know any Buddhist lore?!" Cherry: "No. I was never taught it." Sugar: "Didn't your Master Subodhi ever teach you inbetween lessons on the Dao?" Cherry: "...my who teaching me what now?"

This is how the rest of the monkeys indirectly find out that Netflix!SWK/Cherry; 1: Was never trained for his power, 2: Has no idea about the chinese pantheon, and 3: Was never in the furnance?? Like??? Those are big details in a lot of their stories!

The SWKs who went through these trials feel really frustrated that Cherry hasn't felt the same pain they have, but also recognise his tale as being an equally tragic story of hubris/innocent ambition. Also this monkey had zero friends - no stalwarts, no brotherhood, no LEM likely, so he had no support system/something to fight for beyond himself.

Lin, meanwhile is hanging out with the LMK gang (canon and/or au) like;

MK, telling his origin story: "...So I lifted the Staff and boom! I have the Monkey King's powers!" *poses dramatically on table with his staff* Lin, clapping: "Thats pretty cool! Does your staff talk like Stick does, or it that an oddity just of my world?" Tang: "Your world, sadly. Imagine the tales those Staffs could tell..." Pigsy: "You have the monkeys, Tang." Tang: "The monkeys like to exaggerate and bend details." Lin: "Stick is not really that much better..." MK: *staff falls out of hand onto floor* "Dang it." Lin: "Don't worry! I'll get it!" MK: "Uh yeah, thats not possible-" Lin: *lifts the staff with some effort* The LMK Crew: (ʘᗩʘ’) Hib!Liuer: (◕▿◕) Lin: "...what?"

Lin has her own freak-out moment when the gang tell her that the Ruyi Jingu Bang/Staff is supposed to be over 17,550 lbs/7,960 kg(!!). Aka "girl how are you lifting a whole ass flat-bed truck with your hands"-heavy.

Cus I need to remind yall that Lin *can lift the Staff*, so either Stick deliberately makes itself lighter so she can move it, OR Lin has a major divine Strength buff.

Tang declares Lin his 2nd favorite Monk (first place taken by Liuer). Lin starts freaking out cus Netflix!Tripitaka basically tells her that she's dead in his time/one of his previous lifes as well.

Like everytime when Macaque saw swk with his girl getting lovey dovey he goes "ew love and affection🤮" and he hate it, at least that's what he thought until he met someone he head over heels for liek another reader! Or a person, idk up to you like working in a cafe or a bakery or something up to you and how they became friends is maybe when Macaque visit the bakery or cafe to take some foods from swk order or anything and then the reader just greets him nicely and smh they spark up a conversation and then they share the same interest(theater show, shadow play thing) and now Macaque can't stop his heart beating rapidly

And then he ask swk for advice and then swk goes "what wrong BUD? I thought you hate love and affection😏" and tease the hell out of him and Macaque grumbles but gets the most helpful(hopefully) advice from swk and ask the traffic light trios(MK, Mei and Red son) for advice too and regret it cuz they start teasing him too

What if Macaque was one day sent on a mission to find the hacker that's been shutting them down and leaking plans for weeks now. He tracks this person all the way to a rival gang where he finds... a young woman... in a locked room. 

The room was just barely large enough to hold a small mattress and a desk with at least five monitors crammed into it. The girl was currently typing anyway at her keyboard at a pace that would put even him to shame. She appeared to be upset and tired based on her scowl and eyebags. 

She clearly didn't want to be here. 

"My, my. What have we here~?" 

You whipped around to find the source of the voice within the dark room but found nothing. 

"A little bird stuck in a cage~?" 

The voice was suddenly right next to you, and you snapped your head around to find none other than The Six Eared Macaque from the triad you had been forced to target. 

You gulped as you tried to keep your composure. You knew this would happen. You tried to warn them, but they wouldn't listen. Sun Wukong doesn't take kindly to people getting in his way. 

And now you were going to pay the price. 

"Are you... are you going to kill me?" You asked. 

"Hmmm..." The demon tilted his head unsettlingly slow as he seemed to think over your fate. 

You jumped back in your chair as the monkey slammed his hands down onto either arm rest. His nose was nearly touching yours now as he bared his fangs in a menacing grin. However, despite feeling like you would break down into tears at any moment, you managed to keep your nervousness from showing. 

Interesting, he thought. 

"That depends~... Did you do this of your own free will, or were you forced too? Oh, and. Don't bother lying. I can hear your sweet little heartbeat~."

SWK DAD AU

Chapter one: The Mystery Criminal

It was another peaceful day on Flower Fruit Mountain, the monkeys swung from tree to tree, the sound of the waterfall rushing down, the coo and chips of the monkeys, echoing around the mountain forest, sun wukong is resting with his fellow monkeys, the little monkies resting on his chest, some clinging on his arm, resting on his shoulder all curly up,wukong hands behind his head, his eyes closed, enjoying the sunlight warmth in early morning sun, in his wonderful kingdom.

Until one of his monkey troops chips

"Look, it nezha! my king."

wukong his opens eyes and their was Nezha flying over to Wukong,nezha landed near Wukong, where the great monkey king rested, surrounded by his subjects, little ones, elder ones alike.

he speaks firmly "The jade emperor wants to talk, you have been requested to go to heaven for your crimes against heaven."

wukong never felt so insulted. How could Nezha say that! was the journey to the West for nothing!?, he felt offended by those words, he then got up and took off the monkeys on his body, and placed them on the ground, some stayed on Wukong shoulder.

he replied in a firm angry tone

"You dare say such a thing! That was eons ago. Have I not been forgiven for my crimes by Buddha himself!" he scoffed, he crossed his arms in displeasure, he wanted to know why the heavenly court accused him of such a thing, it wouldn't have been him, he had been staying with his subjects on flower fruit mountain, doing his kingly duties, taking care of his little ones, he has not done such a crimes since his youth.

Wukong continues before Nezha can utter a word "What crimes have I committed? since I have been accused by the heavenly court?, for I have been taking care of my kingdom and haven't laid a foot down on the heavenly Plane for Thousands of years" he then put his hands on his hips, he frowns at nezha wanting answers Immediately.

Nezha replied that the firm as a warrior spoke, Listing the crimes that the heavens thought the great sage had done, pulled out a stroll, and underrolled it. " 1. stealing from the heavenly armory

2. Stealing the book of life and death from the underworld

3. Stealing half the Immortal peaches from the heavenly garden

4. stealing heavenly wine

5. Immortal Elixir"

The great sage was more offended than before! he hasn't done any of those crimes!what proof did they have to incriminate him!, he became enraged by this, wukong reply voice thundering across the mountain "What evidence do you have against Me!, look through my house if you suspect me of such crimes!for I am not the one that it!"

Nezha replied, "We know what you are capable of simian, and your impulsive nature has led you to do rasher things in the past.” The Lotus Prince draws his weapon. “It’ll be better for all of us if you surrendered and followed. If you’re right, the Jade Emperor will clear you of these crimes, and we’ll find the true culprit.”

Sun Wukong signed and grumbled to himself, he pitched his nose in frustration, he put his hands up, he replied "Fine, fine, I will follow and surrender" The monkey king somersault, summoned his Nimbus cloud.

after saying goodbye to his fellow monkeys,the little ones and the elders we're sad about his leaving.

he fellow Nezha to the gates of heaven, as they approached the gate

Nezha called out loudly "Guardians of Heaven gate, lieutenant great and small, I have been assigned to take sun wukong in for his crimes against Heaven, I have been summoned by the imperial decree of the jade emperor"

The deva raja virudhaka and the various divine heroes immediately lowered their weapons and stepped aside,

Both Nezha and Wukong enter through the gates, going to the treasure hall of the divine mists.

Nezha and Wukong enter,nezha announced their present, "I nezha the thired lotus prince,have bring sun wukong, the great sage,equal to heaven,to your majesty,at you're command"

The jabe emperor glare at wukong with disdain,as he sat on his throne,in cloudy mist around it,Jade Emperor show him seated in imperial robes, embroidery featuring dragons,with strings of pearls from his crown.

wukong bow to the jabe emperor, the Jade Emperor speaks in a Firm,just tone,as he put his hand up "wukong,i have called you here,because of the crimes you have committed against heaven" and continues "Nezha has already told you"

Wukong reply "I know but it wasn't me,how could you accessed of such crimes without Evidence of me doing so?"

The jabe emperor glare at wukong,he risen one eyebrow,his arms on the side of his throne,he replied "we know what you're capable of sun wukong" he keep speaking "remember havco in heaven,the many crimes you did before"

Wukong reply in frustration "I know,you're highness,that was aeons ago,I haven't I proved that I am not that person anymore by Completing my journey to the west,with my old champions to get the holy scripture to India"

Jabe emperor signed,he put his hand on his forehead,he pitched his nose,he replied "you may have prove that you changed to Buddha but not to me,I will tell you are evidence,the kings of the underworld saw a monkey in the underworld,causing trouble about it,that monkey found the book of life an death and taken it,that monkey has the same fur color as you,then the monkey come to heaven and stole the Immortal peaches and wine,right under our noses" he moved his hand from his forehead to his throne side,it resting back on the throne chair side,he glanced at wukong with sense of anger,annoyance and disdain.

“The same fur as me? Is that all you have as ‘evidence’” finger-quoting as he remarked, “so youve assume it was me then?,let me investigate this that way we can find the real culprit."

He leaned forward unimpressed with the ccourt.

The jade emperor replied, “you will investigate on one condition, nezha will accompany you. We don’t want trouble.”

Wukong and Nezha when to investigate in heaven....to be Continued

What’s host Macaque’s relationships with the monkey crew going to be like once he’s saved?

i was going to try to draw something for this a while ago but i never got around to it

in the host au its interesting bc mk never got to see shadowplay so he didnt have quite the same emotional connection to maqs reasons for hating swk as he does in the show. but i also dont think macaque cant keep his mouth shut for even one second, so he was probably ranting about stuff as soon as he got back.

also, while he was possessed, lbd was straining maq future hearing to breaking point trying to hear her destiny, so when he got his body back his hearing was pretty busted so he had to deal with that too (any voices from the past or future now being very muffled)

i think overall he probably ended up fairly agitated with everyone for a while, but bonded with several of the mk crew over various stuff, and im also pretty sure he mostly stays on ffm (he says its to annoy swk, and thats true, but its mostly for safety)

I literally just went "Hee hoo sirens"

So MK's a fisherman turned Siren and is referred to as an Heir tho Wukong still calls him a successor.

Both Sun Wukong and Macaque are Sirens as well.

Monkey King remains a king however being a King makes him extra fancy.

Macaque isn't as strong as Wukong because he's a Subject not a Ruler. He's a high ranking Dubject

Mk is complete immune to most forms of hypnosis including Monkey King's songs (which makes teaching him so much easier)

Macaque is immune to most Siren songs however stronger ones like Monkey King's and Lady Bone Demon's he's only resistant to.

Originally Macaque was going to be completely immune too because of his hearing but angst >:]

So then I almost made him susceptible to all Sirens (again because of his hearing) but the wouldn't make sense with his rank as he'd be a liability.

I don't know if Wukong killed Mac in this AU or not because on one hand

Two angry monkeys screeching at each other in increasingly high frequencies is hilarious. It would also mean Wukong killed his best friend/bodyguard as well as lost his translator and assistant.

On the other that means he wouldn't have been as isolated and Macaque most likely wouldn't attack MK at some point .

They have alternate underwater forms and Macaque got bonked with the axolotl stick.

MK is an electric eel :}

weakening or completely canceling another's spells.

Sun Wukong's voice is hypnotic to non Sirens and Hunters

so in Fruit Twins we have this thing going on where we imagine that Six Ear's voice is the mandarin one while Sun Wukong's is the english one (per grollow's request) (with the mandarin mannerisms tho) so i tried editin one of their interactions so i could hear how the voices play off each other n just...

Hi! I just want to say I love your two little monkeys AU so much!!!

Imagine in her time knowing the two monkeys, she was attacked by a random demon and had her sight taken away. How would our two boys react to that? Will they find a way to heal her? Or would they take advantage of it and take her to the Flower Fruit Mountain?

I think even if she was healed, the villagers would grow suspicious of her. I mean it is not common in the time to gain back your eyes after a couple of days unless there are some handsome monkey demons helping you :)))

oh you know swk is taking this opportunity to say "i told you so"

because of course she got attacked by a demon while they weren't there! this is exactly why she needs to live on the mountain with them! and now that she can't see, she's an even bigger target. wukong makes the executive decision to bring reader to the mountain, and nothing mac says can change his mind. he'll find something to heal her eyes, and then she'll be so grateful she'll want to stay forever, he's sure.

macaque takes it upon himself to try and acclimate reader to her new situation as gently as possible. he guides her around the mountain, helping her feel her way around and explaining what everything is. he can't say he isn't a little happy that he gets to be alone and hands-on with his favorite human...he likes that she's relying on him and him alone.

reader's understandably afraid (she was blinded, kidnapped, and is now miles from home), but even she has to admit to really enjoying listening to one of her...captors? s-she just thinks he has a nice voice, that's all! and he's very gentle when he guides her around...she's gotten very familiar with his hands. 👀

(of course swk sees how close reader and macaque have gotten in his absence and is suitably pissed about it 🙄)

Swk blames himself for Mei and mk losing their families

(I didn't say it in the big post but the reason the demon was there and why swk took Mk away to ffm was bc demons could sense the little guys growing power to match swks and wanted to kill it b4 it became a threat)

and while he would never abandon and will always love them as his children no matter what he wishes the incidents never happened. Sometimes he even thinks they would be better off without him and with their original families but would never voice this concern.

Macaque is hesitant at first, to be a part of this growing family but eventually becomes attached like....he can't go back to the way he was living b4 bc honestly it was a sad lonely and depressive life. I'll make a post about macs mentality later but I like to think macaque lives solely to survive, nothing more. So when he finally gets something or someone to live for he's no longer dragging himself by the leg but practically skipping through life as if he was young again

Would be a shame if someone took that away

Red, MK and Mei all have their strengths and weaknesses in terms of subjects

MK I find would have the most trouble out of the three of them with his classes, but mainly struggles with Math and history

Red and Mei help him with what they can, Red is definitely the better one for help than Mei though she understands emotional cues a lot better than he does

It's a team effort to tutor Mk!

However they all suck at English

Tang tutors them for English and later on maq would come in to also help with it too

Mac would also help Mei and Red with any sort of artistic type of class, mk doesn't need his help there

Also also - I am currently living for Mac's and Bai He's dynamic in this au!

Bai He was apart of LBD plot in this au

But since y'know no magic system, she wasn't LBD vessel Bai He was someone she used to get control of the law firm

Mac had planted false evidence in the owner's office and Bai He was used as a way to make everything seem more legitimate basically

Mac after everything with LBD actually went out of town because he needed to get things in order to live a more stable life and kinda just needed to think things out without damaging the main crew

He meets up with Bai He after he settles back down in the city

Mk has been the one to let him know she wanted to see him, he felt too guilty to visit her on his own merit

It just started off with him taking Bai He to the park occasionally, buying her things when they went out or her visiting the theatre he runs

Eventually Mac started getting more and more attached, though he wouldn't admit it

Bai He would ask to stay at his apartment sometimes for the night, with permission from her caretaker and it evolved into her coming over after school for a couple of hours

And after mac found out her caretaker didn't pick her up from school or when she stayed a little longer at his after school, he began talking the initiative to do that instead (grumbling to himself about how incompetent the caretaker was)

He slowly began noticing that Bai He was staying longer and longer at his place after school or how the caretaker's contact was never in his call logs when he had given Bai He the phone to call them so they knew where she was(he was at least semi-responsible)

Or how he wouldn't hear Bai He's voice talking to them even with his sensitive hearing

He didn't take note of it at first, he didn't really think it was anything out of the ordinary when she was only staying an extra hour or two

He used to stay out late when her was around her age

Plus she wasn't hanging outside like kid him was, she was inside his place and he interacted with her caregiver enough when he brought her home for them to have his number incase they didn't know

But then she started asking to stay the night more often, like it turn from once a week to three times

and her short stays afterschool that used to be an hour so he could help her with homework turned to staying closer to supper time

And then it started to slowly turn to be her staying until it was closer to seven, which made the alarm bells start really going off in his head

But he didn't ask Bai He right away about it, Mac wanted to give her the chance to tell him without him prompting the convo(also he was a coward-)

He would ask her questions like "are you sure your caretaker is alright with you coming over so often?" And "did you make sure to notify them that you're staying the night?" Bai He would answer rather quickly which made it even more suspicious but he held his tongue the best he could

Soon enough though he was getting fed up with it all, like he wasn't upset at her but he was becoming increasingly worried about her since Bai He's actions were reminding of what he used to do with SWK when they were younger

(he used to do the same thing to avoid going home and he's worried that Bai He is in the same situation)

One day he gives her his home phone to call them to ask if she could stay over, he went into another room and peeked in to see her pretend to put in the numbers before putting the phone down and going to the couch

When Mac joins her he asks what they said and Bai He replies quickly as usual

Eventually though, after he tells her he saw her pretend to call and a lot of tears, she comes clean

Mac talks with the caretaker the next morning and, after getting a verbal okay from Bai He, discuss him becoming her caretaker instead (she was basically living in his apartment anyway so why not make it official)

He signs the papers and she moves in officially

Mac doesn't tell the others, especially not SWK, that he adopted Bai He at first; he doesn't tell them until he's sure she's settled in and comfortable with him being her guardian yk incase she changed her mind about him

He would've been sad if Bai He didn't want him as a caretaker anymore but he would've accepted her decision

Anyway I think Mac and Bai He would pull some pretty awesome pranks together! Helped by the fact mac has access to a plethora of stage costumes to really do something

Halloween is their favorite time to do this
