Ok...I finally played VLN for the first time, and what an experience that was! X'D. So many funny parts, and a few annoying parts. QuQ
The second most annoying part, is when you have to climb up that tall tower, with the trash pieces falling down, in the sections. And you have to time it, to progress further.
At one point, the trash, had fell in the same lane, while I only just jumped up. I didn't have any time to react at all, when that happened.
The topmost annoying thing was the BUTLER! Ooooh, I had a lot a trouble with him, it wasn't even fun. That arch back guy, is a big bully.
I rage quit at that near end section, when that pathway mechanics, was tedious to do. Then, just today I finally finished the game.
I already knew the cutscenes, so I know what the final boss is going to be. And with the final cutscene, the puzzle part, was all new to me. To figure everything out, almost. At the end, was an experience.
I am glad either way, that I got into playing it, to catch up with the lore. Sad it's a short game. But satisfied that I played it.

Little Nightmares Concept Art Kids
I’ve resurrected and will return to my Little Nightmares roots.
Starting off with a simple theory in my inbox that I long since accidently deleted, but it went like this:
[Six could be named “Six” because there were five kids before her in the concept art.]
The concept kids are used as photo models and two of them are used to model two random kids in the first game. However, all five of them together make an appearance in VLN:
The concept kid’s framed photos can be found hidden in the Nest.
I’ve seen people theorize that the nomes here could have once been the children in these photos.
But that’s not the case.
We know why these photos exist. Because we know how the Nest works. A child who has had their photo taken and hung has already been captured and turned into a doll for the Pretender to play with. So these nomes are not the five concept kids. If these kids have their own framed photos then that means their corpses are somewhere on the Nest:
And here they are. All five of them. Having tea and cookies with the Pretender.
Turns out the concept kids never even made it to the Maw and most likely had died way before Six had even arrived on the Nest. So they have nothing to do with her or why she’s named “Six”. And I doubt these kids had numerical names to begin with.
Six is the “Sixth” for a whole different reason.

Here's a quick ask:
Are the ladies naturally born witches or are they trained to do witchcraft?
Good question! I see people have different interpretations of it. My personal one is that none of them are naturally born witches.
‼️HEADCANONS‼️
However, I think there are some of them who are more magically inclined than others, either naturally or not. One of the current lines of thought I'm following is that Fox was originally born in the Nowhere (thought came to mind after a conversation with my friend @/kordeliiius about the Nowhere residents and how their populations expanded and/or died out) and, as a result, is more inclined to its call. I think she could learn magic more easily and even have some strong affinity for it, but it's not something her body would do naturally.
Although, it is worth noting that magic is a thing that exists in the Little Nights world and that, apparently, it can be studied and learned in spite of that.
(I guess that could be an explanation as to why the Butler in VLN has such similar powers to the Lady, but not on the same magnitude...)
Even so, I could see her easily being the odd one out and being the only one of the lineage who never learns to use magic.
As for the others, I think the progression was less natural and more of a requirement to adapt to their new conditions. I think most of the other Ladies are like Six; kids from other worlds. And plagued by the Hunger, too. I suppose the Hunger (or, rather, the empty hole that it creates) is what initially brings out the soul sucking ability - as a survival mechanism. It's not a natural thing of the body though, it's induced from outside forces. As said before, I think the others ended up learning magic and perhaps even creating/improving previous spells on their own -- Tengu is vaguely hinted to be prolificent in the creation of Nomes while Rascal/the current Lady has the Shadow Children as well, an enhanced version (more Ladies themed) of the Nomes, for example.
#should i tag this as seafarers. technically it counts there#dont wanna clog the LN tag this is not a serious theory#and this mostly applies to the hcs I use in Seafarers. so?#Seafarers (Lady Mom AU)#six#the lady#fox#tengu#scarecrow#teapot#{bring back the gang}

The Nest and Pale City Scrappypastas
So, a few months back I came up with and proposed an idea of a 'what if' scenario or idea for an AU where the Maw is sinking and Six has a time limit to get through the game (and RK too), and Six uses her suitcase bed as a raft and any Nomes she hugs are taken on as crew-mates. Well, I've thought of 'disastrous' states of the Nest and Pale City that I wanted to share with people that I'm probably not going to make content of, but allow everyone to make content of their own of instead. Saying that, dare I say that people could even use these premises as a follow-up to Six escaping from the Maw in 'Sinking Maw'.
So I got this idea for the 'ruined' state of the Nest from Rain World, this idea is that Six is sailing on the sea, (either on a boat that was bringing Guests to the Maw but she killed them and took it over, or got her own raft somehow, or her suitcase raft from 'Sinking Maw') and she winds up passing by the Nest, or rather where it used to be. This premise is that some time after VLN, the rock formation of the Nest broke and collapsed into the sea. Six doesn't plan to return to the Nest, she just happens to pass by it, and all she can see is the bottom of the rock formation as a stump sticking out of the water, and perhaps some debris of the house itself floating in the water.
(Look at it, the rock formation is pretty much begging to break)
And perhaps when the Nest appears onscreen in this collapsed state, music like this would play:
youtube
This would probably shock people who have played or seen VLN and now see the Nest in this destroyed state, and this music would fit perfectly with it.
And I've also thought of a 'ruined' state of the Pale City, this idea I got from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky. This premise is that post LN2, time in the Pale City has stopped entirely. Previously, time was distorted, but now instead, it's stopped altogether.
Imagine it: being after LN2, the characters that Mono and/or Six killed are still dead, and the city has gone about its business, but at some point after Six left, time just stopped. Debris of the run-down buildings and falling Viewers stuck in midair, characters in the middle of doing something but frozen in action. Like the teacher could be writing something on the chalkboard and the Bullies hurting each other (as they typically do), and Viewers watching TV, but none of them are moving (and not even falling if they were in midair as time stopped). And even the drops of rain in the post-school part of the city are stuck in place in the air and sky.
A character who wasn't in the city when time stopped (maybe Six if she returned there for any reason, which could serve as a follow-up to 'Sinking Maw' and 'Collapsed Nest') would still be able to move and interact with a number of the things frozen in time, like they'd probably need to push the stuck rain drops out of their way, which would make the rain drops obey gravity again, but they'd stay in their rain drop state instead of splatting on the ground. Everything in the Pale City is now nothing but a tableau for the protagonist (possibly Six) to walk around in and gaze (possibly in horror) at.
I can't quite think of a name for this premise but perhaps it could be called something like 'Paralysed Pale City'.
Just like with 'Sinking Maw' these are purely ideas that I probably won't make any content of, but wanted to share and welcome people to make content of their own of these two additional premises that could fit with 'Sinking Maw'. Side note: I have another and far, FAR bigger community AU in the works (and have had for over a year now), of which I do plan on making my own content of and I'll upload the 'initial/introductory content' of after the first 2 sequels of Rewind AU.
Thanks for reading.

I found something probably important.
ACTUAL READABLE WORDS IN LITTLE NIGHTMARES!
In the Pretender’s playroom in VLN, you can find this one book depicting the Maw
And it’s hard to see, but the title actually says “THE MAW” in ENGLISH.
This is a huge find because in the world of Little Nightmares, all writing is unreadable in another language entirely.
For example, the labels found on bottles in Little Nightmares 2 are in another language.
We can see this language better in the Little Nightmares Art Book and concept art.
(I get that this is concept art but the symbols used are identical to in game symbols, just easier to see)
It’s a language that looks similar to languages like Japanese, but is its own, unreadable language (or at least that’s what all my sources are telling me).
Meanwhile, Children (and Nomes) depict things in writing using pictures, without any letters.
But this one Book in the Nest is in English, and that has somewhat big implications.
For one, it proves that children are the ones speaking English or something close to English, while the adults are speaking something else entirely.
How did I come that conclusion?
Well, think about where the book is found.
The Pretender’s Playroom, where you can find countless objects meant to entertain the Pretender. If a book about the Maw is found here, it’s probably there to entertain or teach the Pretender, which explains why it’s in a separate language compared to other adult-created writings. It’s in English so the Pretender, a non-adult, has an easier time reading and understanding it.
Also the book about the Maw draws more connections between the Lady and the Pretender.

Frysta: 1946
My take on the Little Nightmares series. My A.U. takes the direction of combining The Nowhere with real-world history. Expect color-coding as there's often so much stuff that it's the best way to make things easy. One thing to note is that VLN and LN are both yellow: VLN is a lighter yellow but since Tumblr doesn't have that, it'll be the same yellow as LN. And despite TSoN happening before LN3, it will always be listed below LN3 things (so orange goes above purple) because it's a podcast. This A.U. treats it as both the prequel of LN3 and a sequel-DLC/sidequest/addition to LN3, if that makes any sense.
The Details
1946 refers to the year my A.U. takes place, one year after World War ||. The world that it takes place in is a Nowhereified version of our own with vague "countries".
The world is split into 4 locations: The Frozen North (Europe-inspired), The Blazing South (Africa-inspired), The Wild West (N.&.S.-American-inspired) and The Distant East (Asian-inspired & Oceania-inspired). Each of these areas have a very specific country that influences them with the rest of the continents having different pieces of their respective countries added in here and there.
The story is split into several parts:
Part 0: The Nest
Part 1: The Maw
Part 2: The Pale City
Part 2.5: The Nightmares
Part 3: The Spiral
Part 0 is a prolog oneshot that sets the groundwork for what happened to Raincoat and Six and Red-Scarf. The story actually starts with The Maw; since it was written prior to LN2 being a confirmed prequel, The Pale City is the sequel to Six's journey on The Maw during LN1. And because it was finished before Part 3, The Spiral will also be a sequel. Noone's story in Part 2.5 won't be written out either as it's already been told and the characters involved will be part of The Spiral instead.
Lastly, I named about near every single character there is, and I do mean nearly every single one. I have a list topping 70+ named characters, each with meaning and everything. Since the summaries and future posts will use the A.U. names, here's the guide to the main characters right off the bat. The guides with the rest of them will follow soon after
Raincoat - Raina Corinn Alv
Six - Six/Sasha Kazeko Kenshin
Runaway Kid - Sevrino Hjälte Forsstrom
Mono - Mono/Marco Martello Manson
Low - Laurent Corbeau
Alone - Ally McAonar
Noone - Ruth Oona Outis-Modie (in future posts, she will always be called "Oona")
And now, onto the details.
Part 1: The Maw
Deep within The Pale City lies The Maw, a restaurant of child slaves, orphaned and abandoned, working to survive in this cruel world. Rumors fly about workers being slain and eaten by the gluttonous Guests when they outlive their usefulness; others say they were caught and branded a member of the Nome Samhälle and only the most daring of dreamers say they escape their servitude. Regardless of these rumors, Sasha refuses to bow to the will of the Governess and will escape The Maw or die trying.
Part 2: The Pale City
The Maw may be over, but The Pale City still chokes the citizens and leaves a world destitute of morality. Viewers glue themselves to their TVs and radios as they wish to escape and ignore the bombed out buildings and sinkholes from war. While Sasha may dislike Marco, the two will need to work together if they wish to survive and shut down the infernal Signal Tower that mocks them from high above, watching and waiting. Nowhere stands no chance if it stays.
Part 3: The Spiral
Outside, deep in the deserts far out in Nowhere stands The Spiral, a desolate land of eternal energy, efficiency and suffering. Stone buildings crumble as whipping winds of sand stir up across the many cities inside of it. From the Necropolis to the Fun Fair, only evil lurks and lives here, if anything does indeed dare exist in the harsh conditions. Laurent and Ally dare challenge these ideals, scavenging and surviving as they search for a way out. Laurent holds out hope; Ally wants answers.
Raincoat: Technical and smart with a side of kindness, caring and a maturity a few years beyond her age, Raincoat is legend among the orphans. A determined survivalist, inventor, builder and escapist, she left the orphanage in a hot air balloon years ago, but was caught and enslaved by the Pretender. Her enslavement hasn’t put out her escapist fire though and people know she’s still cooking up the perfect escape plan. Now if only she could get rid of the Pretender.
Six: A lonely orphan, determined to survive, Sasha is a cheerful but jaded and brainy survivalist. She’s resolute in escaping the servitude and death in The Maw and never stops moving forward in her plans. As an orphan, she learned she had to depend on or trust only herself and she isn’t one to make friends or help others. Never one for teamwork, Sasha prefers to be a lone wolf and is capable of surviving her world just fine without anyone else. The hunger pains she gets do hinder her but she refuses to let them cripple her attempts and will satiate them with anything she can regardless of what it is. While she has no fighting skills at her disposal, her lighter and brains are more than enough for her.
RK: Never one for being confined, Sevrino made a name for himself for his hundreds of attempted escapes from servitude in The Maw and the orphanage itself. Time after time, he would escape; a determined fire in his soul fueled by cleverness and deviousness with a dash of trickery and stealth aiding him each time. Even his ankle shackle didn’t kill his spirit for escape and adventure. Eventually, he was caught by the Lady and branded a Nome; but Sevrino took it in stride, priding himself in his new status with the Nomes and now, he acts as their ambassador between the world and them.
Mono: A perceptive, hardened survivalist steadfast and resolute in surviving the horrors of Pale City, Marco isn’t one to ever give up, becoming uncommonly single-minded when he sets himself a task. Having lived his life in perpetual prosecution and forever on the run for a sin that is not his, he’s detached himself from his emotions and personality, numbing himself completely and becoming a sociopath out of survival. Purposeful and headstrong with a mysterious power in his blood, Marco is a tough and determined soul who’s always prepared to fight off any threat that comes his way. The bag on his head is worn to ensure his personality and emotions are forever hidden and to offer him traces of escapist respite in forgetting that the world hates him and wishes he fails but he knows it won’t hide him forever.
Low: The optimist to Ally’s realist, Laurent is able to hold his masked head high as he treks through a world that cannot tolerate his presence. Out in The Spiral, he’s glad to have company although some company is less wished for than others. Unlike many, his hope remains eternal as he searches for the way home, obsessive in nature and relentless in finding salvation and peace.
Alone: The incurably curious tinkerer, Ally is the realist of her friendship and keeps her head level. She’s not here to leave or simply survive, she’s here to live and find out what’s wrong with the endlessly-running underground that is The Spiral. She’s Laurent’s best friend (even nicknamed him) and she’s proud of herself, accomplishments and friendship without fail. Sometimes cocky and aggressive, she’s far from insane like those that wish her dead.
Noone: Oona is a haunted soul, plagued by nightmares and sickness of unknown origins for all. With a lot on her plate, she tries her best but the things she sees, hears and feels are less than pleased with her unwanted appearances and overstayed welcomes. Though her residency with doctors doesn’t do much for her, she’s determined to rid herself of these horrors before she dies trying or worse happens.

opinion on raincoat girl?
oh, hi!!! this is both a very fun and somewhat bewildering ask! mostly because raincoat girl does not, as far as i am aware, commit any notable acts that might be seen in a negative light! (her locking six out of that shed doesn't count due to the fact that six was down and she was still being hunted. it was a smart decision, and i don't fault her for her fear.) my opinion of her is Neutral Positive, overall. HOWEVER: i do have Thoughts, and i will delightedly share them!
RCG will henceforth be referred to as Ricky by me, which is the name i gave her because the "rc" in rcg translated to ricky in my head and i felt that "raine" was way too on the nose. this is silly, because rk is probably way more likely to get that kind of name logically? but i've been calling rk Una for since i learned about them, pretty much, so. rk is una, rcg is ricky.
DISCLAIMER: i havent played vln and i havent watched a complete playthru. i've read all of ricky's wiki.
anyway. since i haven't seem (much) gameplay, im not particularly familiar with ricky's body language or conduct. most of what i understand about her is based around the fact that the nomes of the maw have apparently drawn her, and that she helps other kids and nomes multiple times throughout her escape from the nest. so i personally think ricky is (or was, rather) helpful and compassionate. she seems survival-oriented in a way that makes her inclined to help others, likely because she recognizes that thats how u Get help.
she goes out of her way a few times to help the kid in the red scarf and six, and iirc she does seem to follow them, or at least her path consistently heads in the same directions they've gone. this can be, of course, limitations set by the environment; only so many climables, only so many vents. she likes nomes and toys (evidence for toys: the vln collectible spring toy thingies). however, the general vibe i get from her is that she's a pretty independent person most of the time. she knows her skills and limits and is good at thinking several steps ahead, and does well with little. she has no qualms asking for help—all the nome-focused puzzles—but she's focused and determined enough to manage on her own as she needs.
i also get the general vibe that ricky's kind of playful and silly? i bet she likes little jokes and practical pranks, or she would if those were plausible in the ln reality. i bet she'd use humor to cope with things and it'd seem pretty lighthearted, at least hypothetically. this aspect mostly comes from (1) the general atmosphere of vln is lighter and way less spooky due to game style and limitations; (2) something about her hot air balloon or blimp, man, idk, it just speaks to me; (3) her collectibles are playful and relatively lighthearted compated to mono's remnants and six's statues. kinda. sorta.
random hcs are that she's a year or two older than six, maybe. she'd be the second tallest (usurped only by mono), and she would have a hard time getting along with mono. she and una would be fine, and i think six would be okay with her but they wouldn't be super close or anything.
hm. there you have it! not rly sure what else to say—i don't really care about ricky all that much, unfortunately. i don't NOT care about her, it's just that she's dead and an important piece of six's background, so my interest in ricky is mainly in that and not really in herself as a character. sorry if that's disappointing!
thank you for the ask i had fun putting my thoughts into words :]. lemme know what you think, maybe, nonnie?

The Real Reason Why Six Dropped Mono
First we need to discuss the ending of Very Little Nightmares and compare it to the endings of the other games.
The Pretender and RCG (Ori) both “fell to their deaths”
Now let’s look at the other endings.
Six escapes the Maw in Little Nightmares 1.
Rk (Sunday) gets turned into a Nome in Secrets of the Maw.
Six drops Mono and he turns into Thin Man.
Now you might be wondering; “What’s the problem with these endings? Also they’re all completely different. What’s there to compare?”
What the last three have in common is that all the protags transformed;
While Six didn’t literally transformed in a physical sense, in a way, she went from a child tyring to escape the maw to becoming part of it’s system. Without the context of Secrets of The Maw, Six became a cannibal by eating the cannibals.
So if Six, Rk (Sunday) and Mono got transformed, what does make of RCG (Ori)? Well if we follow by this logic, it’s safe to assume that she might still be alive and got transformed as well. And I have proof-
The Pretender and RCG (Ori) may have fell but their puddles were still separate. Yet, if you watched the ending carefully, only one bubbling will show up, implying that one of them survived. And then this shows up.
While we may not see RCG’s (Ori’s) human body, we can still see her as her own raincoat.
Do I have your attention now? Okay, let’s continue.
Now we need to discuss about Six’s behavior in Little Nightmares 2 and look for what’s similar to her behavior in VLN.
In Chapter 1, Six is understandibly weary of Mono but is slowly warming up to him. Chapter 2, is Six trying her best to help Mono. There is no feral signs of Six in these two chapters, even after getting into danger a lot of times. Also since Six is basically the youngest out of the protags, I’m pretty sure that her beating up that bully was just her trying to copy and impress Mono.
Chapter 3 is when she starts acting different. She still acts the same as before but she always look surprised at Mono’s actions and wary of him. Not only that, there are cases where she seems downright bored and extremely agressive. Mono’s feral personality may have been rubbing off Six, but she shouldn’t have changed so drastically.
So which of these are similar to Six’s behavior in VLN?
Chapters 1 and 2.
What Mono and RCG (Ori) have in common is that they have both done something that put Six’s life in danger, it could have been betrayal to her eyes, yet she still tries to help them.
So where did the agressiveness came from? Well there was someone who wouldn’t hesitate to hurt others yet are still helpful.
RCG (Ori) did not hesitate to pour steam on the butler and didn’t open the door for Six. Mono may be a “violence first” kid, RCG (Ori) will not hesitate to hurt anyone that goes in the way of her safety, she only does this when it comes to strategy.
And Six acted like this after Chapter 2.
Don’t forget, the moment that Six putted on that Raincoat, she started acting differently.
So combining this observations; I can say that Six is being possessed by RCG (Ori).
So how does this relate to Six dropping Mono?
Let’s just say that even after getting turned into a raincoat, RCG (Ori) is still aware of her surroundings. Even if she can’t move anymore.
Then Six finds her, and she recognizes the 9 year old as the girl that tries to help her.
If you watch the scene where Six puts on the coat, the lights will flicker. Yet it isn’t agressive like the 1st game, it’s almost like someone just saw a kid that they recognize.
Maybe she wanted to thank Six or maybe it’s overprotective big sister vibes; but RCG (Ori) wants to help Six on any way she can and keep her safe.
Now all RCG (Ori) could do is just watch Six getting into danger over and over again because this random kid can’t control himself.
And this was the final straw.
While I doubt that she can feel the pain, I’m sure that RCG (Ori) can hear how much smashing the music box actually hurts Six, both physically and mentally.
And despite seeing this, Mono doesn’t stop.
And it made her mad.
RCG (Ori) doesn’t understand why Six would still try to help Mono after hurting her so badly to the point of what sounded like torture.
But there is no way she wants this innocent little kid getting hurt that badly again.
So she tries her best to posses Six and...
Let go.
#arrow rambles#little nightmares#ln#ln six#ln mono#ln rcg#okay this might sound stupid#but that raincoat scene kept bothering me#and then i saw six's behavior changed after she got it#then this came to my head like nothing#theory

I think a part of it is the fact that she’s a child being taken care of in a world where children are viewed as pests to be killed on sight at BEST.
Then you combine that with the fact that both The Nest and The Pretender herself have heavy connections to the Lady, one of the most powerful adults we know of who’s main thing is eating children and turning them into nomes. There’s even children in cages in the attic, a place as far away from the Pretender’s living area as physically possible. And then there she is, being taken care of in a world where that should be impossible.
Her entire situation is just very suspicious and I worry for her safety even before the events of VLN.
pretty’s character is so interesting to me i just don’t know how to word it
#could also be the fact that unlike every other antagonist in LN#the Pretender is able to be redeemed#because unlike every other monster and monstrous adult#that we see kills for fun and food and we KNOW will never stop#The Pretender is a child. just like every other child. a child with issues and uncontrollable powers. but still a child.#if you took her out of the nest and gave her enough time she could feasibly go through a redemption arc and join the protagonists#which is a trait unique to her#little nightmares#the pretender#at least I think that’s who you’re talking about#sorry if you’re talking about an OC or something and I immediately started talking about The Little Nightmares Pretender#it’s just you know the Pretender’s fanon-assigned name and all#so I assumed

I not know if you still post about your family au but who would be pretenders sibling or family member if in the nest
*INHALE*
THE DISASTER FAMILY AU ISN’T DEAD I SWEAR
Anyway-
For anyone who needs more context about this AU: here is the very first post about it
And the answer to your question is:
Runaway Kid!
After Six, Mono and Spoon Girl were sent to the hospital by accident (because of te Flesh Monster), the children who remained in the Tower were upset.
Thin Man managed to explain the situation and calm them down… Except for Runaway Kid. He never trusted Thin Man and was really uncomfortable living in the Tower of Transmission, especially without his Nome friends.
So after learning about this accident, he decides to escape the Tower.
He wanted to go out, he wanted to find a shelter, a new home, a cozy place where he could live with Nomes something like… a nest?
The Flesh Monster, inspired by those complains, decides to take advantage of the panic for teleporting the child in the Nest.
Runaway Kid was happy to see Nomes again but didn’t expect to be found by someone else…
So yes, the Pretender and Seven are bffs.
They drink tea together with their army of Nomes and go bullying the Craftsman and the Butler everyday.

Mirror monster thoughts wha t do you have
Crawls on the cielinh so I can grab your head and shake out all the thought
MASTERPOST
Randy you know better than to give me such freedom... I'm gonna be talking for a whole longass post now because I do have so many thoughts about the Mirror Monster.
The thing about the comic characters in this franchise is that they stick with you once you find out they exist. This is because they are so unique when compared to the rest that it's almost hard to believe they could even co-exist. Less so the Ferryman, with Mirror Monster being an in-between to his "normalcy" and North Wind's complete shattering of the unspoken rules that usually build a LN antagonist. Congrats to your babygirl for being a wildcard I suppose
The Mirror Man Lore Dump
As discussed previously, the canonicity of Mirror Man is up to debate: however, because of his presence as a jack-in-the-box in VLN, we'll assume he still exists (or has existed) in the universe.
Considering all other rooms have some semblance of imagery leading back to the character residing in them, this one probably follows the same principle.
Taking into account what Mirror Man does, it becomes clear that the paper planes are meant to rappresent his victims. Frail and easy to maneuver, they easily fall into his trap. What's interesting to note is the fact that those who end up falling over on the other side are not crumpled or ruined: they seem to be stored somewhere. Intact, but still trapped on the other side.
It's also important to note that the net doesn't necessarely move or do anything to attract its preys: it stands still, awaiting, knowing that someone will eventually come and get stuck. There are a few exceptions, such as the planes that ended up flying in other directions, and even a piece of paper who, in spite of being stranded away from its place, is not folded as a paper plane. This may rappresent those people who come in contact with the Mirror Monster but have no interest in what he has to offer - such as the Humpback Girl.
(Funnily enough, this is not the first time people are rappresented as pieces of paper in the jack-in-the-boxes rooms. There would be another very enlightening room that follows the same principle --)
(-- But I digress.)
With a Nome standing on the pile of paper, I believe it may not be a stretch to assume that Mirror Man, like many others, would primarily target children. They're easy prey for a reason. However, it's clear that he may not necessarely have limitations considering... the Lady ordeal... though she still doesn't seem to fit the (hypothetic) criteria to be considered part of his hunting grounds.
Going back to the room before moving onward: after combining my braincells to the ones of the peeps in the Box server, we figured out that the piece of machinery in the room could be an old boat engine.
They do share some similarities, but we haven't been able to figure it out for certain... so we'll leave it at that.
However I will say that Mirror Man's fit here greatly resembles the one the man in this painting is wearing, along with the pose being the exact same.
This always struck me as odd because his design in the comic has a completely different colour palette, as you can see on the picture on the right, so I'm wondering if the comics got his coloring wrong somehow... or if they simply changed it overtime.
Here's two pictures for comparison.
Moving on to his comic appearences, Mirror Man is implied to be regarded as some sort of an urban legend in the Humback Girl's hometown -- unlike the previous issue's antagonist, the North Wind, who is instead said to be more of a malevolent spirit. You could say the Mirror Man is... a boogie man of sorts. It is also worth mentioning that none of the children in the Humpback's girl group seem to know who the Mirror Man is before entering the building - only that the place itself is dangerous.
(Thinking about it now, this creates a very interesting parallel with Thin Man as he also operates in a near identical way. Mh. Moving on.)
As mentioned earlier, the Mirror Man waits for his prey to wander in. He doesn't make his presence known immediately, choosing to wait until his victims are instead relaxed and content with their new appearence. He's able to give them what they want and does so only to catch them by surprise afterwards. Cruel.
His powers are tied to the ability of changing people's outward appearences - be it in a way they like or dislike. This happens respectively to the friends of the Humpback Girl, and to the girl herself after she looks into the shattered mirror.
A plausible theory regarding his origin is that he was summoned by the arrival of Humpback Girl, and while I think that is a possibility, I don,'t necessarely think that's the case. I believe that, because her only wish was to leave - something that has nothing to do with what's in the Mirror Man's power capabilities - she was able to see him coming before the others. You can see him lurk behind her shoulder, preparing to attack -- but then he moves quickly behind a different mirror.
I do think her shift in appearence was his direct doing, because it only happens after she looks at the shards of the mirror.
This is what has me believe that Mirror Man did not perish here and simply moved (forcibly?) to another mirror, with Humpback's girl transformation being his petty farewell.
(Diverting from the original point a second, I find it especially cruel how the entire Humpback Girl's situation was nearly a set up if you think about the story's progression. She starts off as being ridiculed and called a coward by her peers, she proves her bravery by fighting to save them only to have this backfire horribly as the others abandon her there. It's terribly upsetting.)
Canonical Mirror Man lore unfortunately ends here... and it genuinely saddens me that such an interesting concept for a character was never brought back again for something. He, the Ferryman and the North Wind were truly done a disservice. I want them back.
Now, when it comes to hypothesis... you know I am a huge enjoyer of the Mirror Man/Lady enemyship. I have many thoughts on the two of them, but because it's something purely hypothetical backed up by nearly nothing, I will not be expanding on it as of now.
Thank you a lot for the ask :]

So how'd you get into the Little Nightmares franchise? What made Six your favorite character?
That’s a bit of a tough question, since it’ll test my memory.
I think I heard of LN and learned a bunch of stuff about it from a video called 107 facts about Little Nightmares, and that video included the 2017 comics, so I was able to know about their existence fairly quickly. Plus I misremembered a part of the video and thought that Six’s name was something like Eliza, lol. The video also included pointing out Shadow Six though I didn’t remember it at the time and when someone pointed out “look on top of the table” of the Nome hunger scene, I thought it was the silhouette of the Lady’s head, so I thought that the Lady was there, knowing what was happening in the room and possibly made Six eat the Nome. Especially since she is seen entering the elevator a moment afterwards. And when I saw the secret ending of LN2, I was like “What? Why is there a shadowy copy of Six now?”. I saw Tericho’s “is Six a villain or victim?” Video and he showed one of the moments where Shadow Six appeared in LN1 and I was like “What?! She was in the first game too?!”. Rewatching the 107 facts video, it confirmed the existence of Shadow Six in the first game.
And I don’t remember who, maybe GamingBeaver, I learned some more about the events of the game, and I saw play throughs of LN1 and got to know the events of the game. And when I watched a video on the events of LN1, it of course was the classic “Six is the Lady’s daughter” conclusion (before the devs debunked it). Though I do like AUs where the Lady and Six are mother and daughter. And it was TheLeaderboard's videos of what happens in each part of the DLCs that informed me of what happened in RK's journey.
I think my interest in LN fizzled out a little until GamingBeaver made his video on the ending of VLN, so I thankfully was able to learn of RCG and a piece of Six’s story that a bunch of the fandom doesn’t know about even to this day. So I got to know a little more about Six.
Then some time passed and I somehow heard of LN2 being in development and was excited about it. And I didn’t find out of when it was released until a couple months after its release. I saw and watched GamingBeaver’s video about the story of LN2 and that’s where I learned of the “Six is the Lady” theory that I despise so much. And I watched CoryKenshi’s play through of it to learn more about the events of that game, and I’m still bitter about how he so easily dumped Sasha Six in favour of Baggy and that he denied that Six is a kid just trying to survive and even reprimanded her for “doing this to all of these people”, you know, the people who tried to kill or eat her. I’m still bitter at CoryKenshi for that.
I’ve been really into LN since the release of the second game and I’m still into it currently.
As for the girl in question, I think she’s my favourite protagonist mostly because she was the one I was introduced to first.
It took a bit to realise that Six doesn’t have anything visible on her legs, so I got scared that she might not be wearing anything underneath the raincoat, but then I watched Crazy Cowboy’s video “Funny Chef Six” and it contained this official PNG of Six:
I spotted the white shorts (though I thought they were yellow at first) and felt relieved that she does have other clothes on under the raincoat. And VLN and LN2 reinforced that fact.
Then VLN and LN2 added more to her story and character, which made me like her even more.
And after LN2 came out and time passed after that, I myself went through character development with judging Mono and Six. At first I didn’t want to believe that Six was selfish and sadistic (which Beaver said she was in his video) and I blamed everything on Mono, but later GamerSault made his “Who is Six?” video (which is private now 😞) where he talked about Six’s selfish side but he didn’t demonize her for it, and I also saw a long but great comment on that video where they compared the sh*tty treatment Six gets from the fandom to the sh*tty treatment Chara gets from the Undertale fandom. These two things helped me accept that Six does have a selfish side, though I still don’t believe that she’s sadistic, especially considering the hypocrisy from the fans when Mono does similar things that gets Six labeled as sadistic for, but he does them to a bigger extent and often did them first.
I don’t place all the blame on Mono anymore, but I still do vehemently sympathize with Six. One because I spent my teen years watching Mr Enter’s Animated Atrocities - where I got my strong sense of justice from, and two, I think I slightly see myself in Six. Call me petty or childish but I relate to Six in the way that her efforts are swept under the rug. Back in school, in P.E we were doing a little exercise where we repeatedly go into the starting position that athletes go into for sprinting, and for some reason we were put into pairs for this. I was paired with someone who apparently had something wrong with her legs so she couldn’t go into the ‘sprint start’ position (understandable), so she decided that I had to do it for her turns as well as mine (not understandable). And when I tried to refuse (I couldn't stand up for myself back then, plus the pose is uncomfortable for me) she just whined "BuT yOu HaVe To". And another time in college, we had to design a magazine front cover for a bricklaying competition and I think I misheard the lecturer because everyone made 6 different covers, while ended up making 12, because I thought that’s how many we had to make. Both of these instances I did literally twice as much work as everyone else, but my efforts were not acknowledged or compensated at all. It's a loose and very specific connection between me and Six, but it's still a connection, so I think I feel some resentment when the fandom does the same thing but far, far worse to Six.
So yeah. Sorry for the long read, but this is how I got into Little Nightmares and why I'm a really strong defender of Six.

A short thing on both current possible theories:
Both of the most possible theories (My Prophecy Theory and Dream Theory) have massive holes in them.
Prophecy Theory: Noone’s dreams are prophetic, just like the other dreams in the LN franchise, and they show what the world will become once the Eye shows up and corrupts everything. The Ferryman is essentially the herald of the Eye.
Dream Theory: Little Nightmares is a world that children get pulled into when they sleep, essentially being comatose in the real world as they wander a nightmarish wasteland ruled by the Eye. The Ferryman is trying to pull kids into the dream so they never wake up.
For Prophecy Theory, you have the question of how it all works.
Why is the Ferryman here and aware of everything?
Why is he trying to get Noone to “Give in to this world”?
How do Noone’s dreams work?
Why?
There’s probably more but I’m biased because I made the theory.
For Dream Theory, you have a couple different questions that are significantly harder to answer.
Why is Noone still waking up (is it because they haven’t given in?)?
Why don’t children die of thirst, hunger, old age, illness or anything while they’re presumably comatose in the real world? Mono aged like 80 years at the bottom of some tower and Six has been running around for so long that they presumably grew to fit RCG’s raincoat in between VLN and LN2.
Speaking of death, Noone has died twice now in her dreams, being killed by the Lady In Chains and a chemical spill. How is she still alive and able to just come back again to the same world another night? Why can’t any other child do that? RCG and RK would have benefited from that significantly.
Why is the Ferryman the only thing attempting to keep Noone asleep? Shouldn’t other, equally powerful entities like the North Wind, Lady, Broadcaster or literally just the fucking EYE be trying to keep her asleep as well?
And most importantly: Why is everything Noone describes so far symbolism about the Lady and Maw? Episode 1’s dream shows the Maw (The Stone Giant), Nomes (The workers that keep the Stone Giant running), The Lady (The Lady who stretches their face to remove signs of age with control over chains) and Souls that the Lady has consumed (The thousands of people chained up inside the stone giant by the Lady’s chains) through symbolism and representation. Episode 2’s dream shows Guests (Literally just Guests) heading towards the Maw (The Bathhouse) through the same methods. Unless this dream world has 3 legally distinct versions of the Lady, Maw and Guests, it just doesn’t make any sense.
So I have no idea which theory is true, but I’m pivoting towards Prophecy Theory because those questions can probably be answered in time.
My thoughts and theories on the LN Podcast: Episodes 1 and 2:
Putting all this under a readmore because spoilers for Episode 1 and 2 of The Sounds Of Nightmares:
General Stuff.
The way people talk and the way things sound make me think that the story is talking place in the past, I’d date it to somewhere around the Late 40s or Early 50s, so that’s another point to Little Nightmares taking place in 1948 specifically.
This whole thing is very interesting. The world isn’t corrupted. Children and Adults don’t hate each other. Otto acts like a human being. The corrupted stuff is in Noone’s head, but I don’t think it’s all a dream.
I think the dreams Noone is having, showing the actual world of Little Nightmares, are either visions of another world, or are visions of something that’s going to happen. Either this non-corrupted world is a separate one from Little Nightmares’ world (which I will call Nowhere for now thanks to the Little Nightmares 3 Description) or my personal theory that I will be going with until it’s disproved: The Non-Corrupted world IS Nowhere, but before everything goes to hell. Noone’s dreams are prophetic.
My reasoning for the Prophecy Theory was started because of 3 things, and there’s more evidence to come in specific episodes.
Names for people and places follow a very similar pattern to in The Nowhere. The Place the story takes place in is simply called: The Counties, similar to places like The Nest, The Maw, or the Pale City. Otto (an Adult) is supposed to be referred to as “The Counsellor”, but doesn’t mind being called by his real name, and Noone (pronounced Noon) is mentioned to have chosen her own name, which is implied to be the origin of most child names.
In Little Nightmares, many of the dreams that children have are prophetic, showing events that will eventually happen or vaguely warning of future events. Six has a dream of the Lady the same day she encounters her, Mono dreams of the door before he ever starts seeing it and begins heading towards it, RK has a nightmare related to The Granny and RCG has a nightmare about barricading a shed door with something banging on the other side, which happens later exactly as she dreamt it.
The dreams Noone has are rather symbolic. The first episode is the better example of the two, but both aren’t really real locations in Nowhere. They’re symbolic representations of The Maw and Guests specifically.
Ep 1:
In this, Noone ends up inside a massive stone giant, and encounters the Ferryman for a brief moment. Like literally just the Ferryman. Fully described in the coat, hat and melted face and later referred to as the Ferryman (and the Candleman, a reference to the cut Wax Bellman from LN 1, who was initially cut from the game and then was remade Into The Ferryman and got put back in).
After that she goes deeper inside the giant to find a giant clockwork structure that keeps the giant alive and maskless shadow children working on it, keeping all the gears moving. After that she finds a starved, rotting man chained inside a bedroom and then she encounters A Tall Lady wearing chains with a face that’s been purposefully stretched out to remove any wrinkles or signs of age.
After that is more travelling before Noone and a Child she encounters in her dream find a courtyard where thousands of screams can be heard from other people, chained up and starved in their own rooms like the one Noone saw before. Then the Lady in Chains shows up again, kills the other kid and Noone wakes up.
Like I said before, this dream is heavily symbolic, but it’s obviously about the Maw and The Lady.
First off, the Ferryman is here. No symbolism, no speculation, he’s here and that immediately draws connections to the Lady.
Then there’s the Shadow Children, or the Workers, who I don’t actually think represent Shadow Kids found in the Maw. The workers represent Nomes, who keep the Maw (or in this case the Stone Giant) running. Despite being seen as antagonists, the Workers don’t actually do anything to Noone in the dream. They head towards her when she draws attention to herself, which scares her, but they never actually attempt to harm her. They just want a closer look at Noone in all of their appearances and they immediately back off once Noone’s dress tears and a piece gets stuck in the gears.
The Lady in Chains is very, very, VERY obviously the Lady. They’re a tall woman who is desperately trying to appear younger, stretching their skin to remove wrinkles. The chains that the Lady can seemingly manipulate may also represent her powers, and I’ll get into that in a moment.
Then there’s the chained man and the thousands of others just like them. They may represent Guests or something like that, but I think they represent something else: The souls of both Guests and Children alike that the lady has consumed after countless Maw Feasts.
My logic for this is that both the chained people and the Lady’s representation in the dream specifically involve chains. The Chained People are chained to walls in specific rooms, rotting and starving, and the Lady In Chains is constantly surrounded by chains, with chains literally coming off of her clothing and flowing underneath her dress. The Lady In Chains can also control those chains, manipulating them however she wants to, and using them to ensnare a child and pulling them away to kill them. Now if the Lady In Chains is The Lady, then the Lady In Chains’ ability to control chains probably represent the Lady’s own ability to control her unique soul stealing shadow magic. And if chains in this dream represent the Lady’s Soul Stealing Magic, then it makes sense that the rotting, starving, tortured souls all chained up throughout the Giant in the dream are people that the Lady consumed. That’s what the Lady stealing your soul feels like. You are chained up by magic, starved and tortured by the Lady slowly breaking down your consumed soul until you no longer exist.
And the Lady In Chains has THOUSANDS of people chained up. Think about that in relation to the REAL Lady. Horrifying.
Also with the revelation that the Chained up people are souls that the Lady consumed and is slowly digesting/using up, you can make the claim that the Giant in the dream may ALSO be a representation of the Lady. After all, those people are chained up and imprisoned INSIDE the Giant, and Nomes may keep the Maw running, but by doing so they also keep the Lady running just as much.
Ep 2:
Here we hear a tiny bit about Otto’s beloved Cici (Sici? Sissi? It’s pronounced See-See), who could honestly be a lot of things right now. A lost lover, a lost child, a lost friend, a lost family member, but the important part right now is that Cici had similar dreams, or at least encountered the Ferryman in some them. Definitely going to be important later.
This dream is a lot more straightforward. Noone finds themselves in a town with another Child she’s never seen before named Jester. They wander for a short while before Noone sees the Ferryman again, exactly as he was before, and runs, separating from Jester in the process.
Also while in this town, Noone sees “Contraptions that resemble fish carrying large, extremely fat people wearing wooden masks and brown robes towards a Market and Bathhouse” (Seems familiar, right?)
When Noone enters the Bathhouse, she finds dozens of monstrous people washing themselves, and finds one of them using Jester to scrub themselves. When that monster sees her, it immediately forgoes cleaning and goes straight for her, chasing Noone until she accidentally brings a bottle of cleaning chemicals down onto both of them, killing them both and waking Noone up.
If it wasn’t immediately obvious, those are Guests. Extremely fat, Masked people wearing brown robes. The masks are wooden instead of whatever the hell actual Guest masks are made of, but everything else matches. Even the fish shaped contraptions moving the Guests towards the Market and Bathhouse make sense once you realize that the Bathhouse represents the Maw.
In this dream, Guests are brought to the Maw to feast, but some things are slightly off. Instead of food and gluttony, the Guests we see are obsessed with cleaning and cleanliness, but they’re still very clearly guests, endlessly heading towards a place that claims to be able to fulfill their endless needs.
Even their behaviour when seeing Noone matches with real Guests. When a Guest sees, Noone it immediately forgets about cleaning itself or the child it’s carrying and goes straight for Noone, just like how real Guests always go for the freshest meat they can see, forgetting about the 5 star meal right in front of them when they can see meat that’s even fresher and harder to come by (a live child).
Prophecy Theory:
But then, why is everything slightly different and more symbolic than any other child dreams we see. Most of them are pretty straightforward? And what’s with the Ferryman? If these are all prophetic dreams, why does the Ferryman seem to be aware of it all?
Well, first I want to point something out.
In all Child Dreams in the games, the most powerful entities seem to have have some sort of awareness or control of some sort over the dream. In Six’s dream, the Lady turns towards her before she wakes up, seemingly aware that Six is looking in her direction, and when Mono dreams of the Door in LN2, the TV next to him turns on, possibly because either the Thin Man or Broadcaster (two separate, yet similar entities) was aware of what Mono was dreaming about.
Now with that in mind, The Ferryman IS as powerful as the North Wind, another extremely powerful entity, so it makes sense that in a prophetic dream, the Ferryman could be still aware of things.
As for why these dreams are so symbolic and hard to understand when most prophetic dreams are pictures and images of what’s to come, it’s because these events are VERY far away from happening. The Lady doesn’t appear as THE LADY despite possibly having awareness because The Lady doesn’t exist yet. The world hasn’t fallen under the influence of the Eye, and we KNOW that the Lady and the Maw only start everything they do AFTER things like the Signal Tower are built, which happens presumably AFTER or RIGHT AS the world goes to shit.
Noone’s dreams are all symbolic because her dreams don’t even know how to process or comprehend what’s coming. It can’t show the Lady or the Maw because Noone’s dreams can’t look that far and that accurately into the future, so they create the Lady In Chains, The Stone Giant, The Workers, and a dozen other representations of what’s coming because it can’t say for certain what things are going to look like. Only a rough guess at the eldritch horror that’s coming. Vague representations of The Lady and The Maw and the Nomes that keep it running. Somewhat accurate but still slightly off depictions of Guests heading towards the Maw in droves, etc.
But the thing is, the Ferryman is there. And the Ferryman is unchanged. And the Ferryman is aware that Noone is dreaming. That means that Noone’s prophetic child dreams are depicting the actual Ferryman.
And that means that the Ferryman actually exists somewhere out there in either Noone’s world or whatever dark corner of the universe that the Eye resides in.
We know next to nothing about the Ferryman besides the fact that he’s as powerful as the North Wind and chooses to work for the Lady (mean that the Lady is probably just as powerful). And now we know one more thing about him: He’s existed longer than any of the other monsters besides maybe the North Wind. Probably created by the Eye itself.
And keep in mind, in the actual games, There’s evidence that a world was here before us. Viewers couldn’t exactly have built the Pale City after all. And in those buildings, all over the place, you can find evidence that the Eye has been here for a VERY long time, it’s symbol found on many things from before the world presumably went to shit. The Eye has always been here, it’s just that relatively recently it went from “passive influence of various types” to “Plunge the world in chaos and darkness”. So the Eye definitely exists at the time that the podcast takes place, and so does the Ferryman and presumably the North Wind.
Also: The Ferryman has apparently been in ALL of Noone’s recent nightmares, and he wants her to “give in to this world”. Does he want Noone to give in so he can drag her further into it and probably claim her soul for the Eye, or does he want her to give in so he can escape THROUGH her, possibly bringing the Eye out along with him?
Anyways that’s my somewhat coherent rambling. Enjoy.
#little nightmares#I do not like dream theory#too many questions and it makes everything seem pointless because it’s all just a dream
