Here's a quick ask:
Are the ladies naturally born witches or are they trained to do witchcraft?
Good question! I see people have different interpretations of it. My personal one is that none of them are naturally born witches.
‼️HEADCANONS‼️
However, I think there are some of them who are more magically inclined than others, either naturally or not. One of the current lines of thought I'm following is that Fox was originally born in the Nowhere (thought came to mind after a conversation with my friend @/kordeliiius about the Nowhere residents and how their populations expanded and/or died out) and, as a result, is more inclined to its call. I think she could learn magic more easily and even have some strong affinity for it, but it's not something her body would do naturally.
Although, it is worth noting that magic is a thing that exists in the Little Nights world and that, apparently, it can be studied and learned in spite of that.
(I guess that could be an explanation as to why the Butler in VLN has such similar powers to the Lady, but not on the same magnitude...)
Even so, I could see her easily being the odd one out and being the only one of the lineage who never learns to use magic.
As for the others, I think the progression was less natural and more of a requirement to adapt to their new conditions. I think most of the other Ladies are like Six; kids from other worlds. And plagued by the Hunger, too. I suppose the Hunger (or, rather, the empty hole that it creates) is what initially brings out the soul sucking ability - as a survival mechanism. It's not a natural thing of the body though, it's induced from outside forces. As said before, I think the others ended up learning magic and perhaps even creating/improving previous spells on their own -- Tengu is vaguely hinted to be prolificent in the creation of Nomes while Rascal/the current Lady has the Shadow Children as well, an enhanced version (more Ladies themed) of the Nomes, for example.
#should i tag this as seafarers. technically it counts there#dont wanna clog the LN tag this is not a serious theory#and this mostly applies to the hcs I use in Seafarers. so?#Seafarers (Lady Mom AU)#six#the lady#fox#tengu#scarecrow#teapot#{bring back the gang}

◤❀Cнαrαcтer'ѕ Sтυdy: ✿◢
➤ Some personal HCs that I have for the Nauts, especially given I think they make sense.
Seasons / Weather / Location: I am grouping these three in one, given they can relate to one another. I always am a firm believer that there are areas where there is winter going on or some sort of cold weather. This requires the Nauts to have an additional attire to their wardrobe to keep themselves warm while they are sailing. This also applies to their supplies and ways to keep the coldness from intervening with their technology or sailing. They ensure nothing bad falls to them because of the coldness. This also applies to when summer hits as well where storms can get pretty bad in specific areas. Or even knowing which location of a continent has certain things going on. Whirlpools, reefs, awful storms, iceberg in the water, the list goes on. Maybe they try not to go in specific times of the year because they know how bad the sea can get, especially depending on the location and where they have to navigate to. So, all I can say is imagine Vasco in clothes that is meant for keeping him warm while he sails in the cold weather.
Journals / Secrets: Again, grouping this up into one. The Nauts are known to be pretty secretive. So, I imagine any secrets they wish to keep are stored where the admiral is or somewhere that one can't easily get access to, unless they know the knowledge of where to go or what they are looking for. I've mentioned this before but I like to think on professional and business terms of keeping journals, they have their own journals to not mix up with anyone else. Of course, from the outside, it may look like an ordinary journal, but I am sure there is something to set them apart. The symbol the Nauts has stamped in the journal or a slightly unique design that one can take notice.
Types of ships: This isn't exactly a personal HC that I think, but more so based off of what the game given us. We know there are warships in the game. In meaning, there must be various of ships the Nauts has. All being designed for a specific purpose in mind, given each type of ship has a purpose. Such as the fluyt ship being designed to carry out cargo more than being a combat ship or the galleon, which is a type of warship. I like to think it is common to see those cargo ships more than the other types. Not only to avoid anyone trying to figure out how the Nauts fight but also because the Nauts are mostly the type to carry cargo and passenger from one place to another.
Superstitions: Much like any other seafaring person sailing the seas, there is bound to be superstitions within the ranks of the Nauts. There are some that isn't featured while other are. The specific superstitions can be found in another post that I may or may not want to write up.
Items: I like to think the Nauts do most if not all of what they have. Obviously they build their own ships as well as having someone within the ranks do their tattoos. I also like to think they sometimes make their own weapons, but they can be seen making business with other people to make certain items. Weapons, outfits, journals, those kind of things. Definitely have those go-to people they built up a lot of trust to turn to and aren't going to betray them.
