in the ghost hunters vld au, how do they discover keith is part alien? or how he is perceived by their audience? what gives him away as Not Normal? what is just keith being a cryptid and what is keith being half alien?
Keith is so weird from the viewer's perspective.
He barely shows up on camera for one thing. Even Pidge shows up more than he does. He's only ever in the frame by accident, so their viewers kind of lose it whenever he does show up. Timestamps litter the comments. They treat him like the channel's own personal cryptid, which is funny, because it's a channel about cryptids.
(Also why do his eyes always seem to be glowing? Special contacts for The Bit?)
He's also the only member without any kind of social media presence. He might as well be a ghost. Someone sees him use a flip phone in one frame and everyone loses it. A flip phone?? In this year of 2024??? My god, who is this man.
Anyways, the gang finds out that Keith is part alien when Coran casually greats him because they already know each other from Keith's childhood. When they express confusion, Keith just kind of tilts his head and is like... "oh yeah. I guess I never told you guys. I was born in space".
#asks#he says it so casually. like he forgot to tell them his birthday#'oh yeah btw I'm part alien.'#the three of them suddenly having an extended flashback to all the times they covered alien rumors

Ghost Hunting Gone Sexual. NOT CLICKBAIT!
Pairing: Keith Kogane x Lance McClain
Genre: crack?, suggestive materials
Warnings: ghost boners LMAO
Summary: Keith, Pidge, and Hunk are ghost hunters that go investigating an abandoned frat house where they come across ghost!Lance. Is it really a surprise when the ghost takes a certain liking to Keith?
WC: 3.2k words
want to read it on AO3?
“Are you sure this is going to work?”
“Why are you always doubting me? I’m a genius, you know.”
Keith huffs and rolls his eyes, parking their white van a little ways down the road in case they need to make a break for it. It’s happened before and he’s sure it won’t be the last. “A genius has an IQ of 160 or higher. You only have one of 140,” Keith reminds, turning the car off and unbuckling himself.
“You’ll never let that go, will you?” the shorter of the two grumbles.
“Nope,” he replies cheekily, popping the end of the word. He had googled it a while back when she kept bragging about being a genius and having a high IQ. Now when she mentions it, he makes sure to rub it in her face.
“She’s still smarter than you,” Hunk pipes up from the back, giving Keith a cheeky grin when the driver glares at him through the rearview mirror.
“Gee, thanks, Hunk,” Keith sarcastically replies.
“Either way, this time the device will work. We already tested it,” she replies as she hops out of the passenger seat.
“No, we tested it on ourselves, not ghosts,” he chastises, sounding as if he’s talking to a child. Well, she might as well be to him. That five-year age gap is something he always loves to rub in her face. She, of course, always reminds him that though she might be younger and shorter than him (*cough* everyone *cough*), she’s still smarter than him and their friends combined.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. Don’t get your panties in a twist. I made some modifications since last time and I think–no, I know it’ll work this time,” she announces. She opens up the back and grins evilly at Hunk. “Ready big guy?”
“I don’t know about this place, guys…” he starts, slowly getting out of the car and holding his sound mic to his chest. “What if this place really is haunted?”
“That’s the plan, Hunk,” she replies in monotone and wears an expressionless face.
“Don’t worry, I’ll protect you,” Keith reassures, patting his bigger friend on the back. Hunk sighs and nods his head before getting the rest of his equipment out. Pidge chuckles to herself as she gets the camera and her bag of gadgets. Keith just helps them carry their things since he doesn’t really have anything he brings with him on these adventures.
Once they have everything, they close all the doors and start to walk down the road. After a few minutes, they reach an abandoned building. This isn’t just any abandoned building though. It’s an old house that’s near the college campus. They apparently used to have parties here way back when. Keith made a joke that the ‘old timers’ wouldn’t know what a fun party was if it slapped them in the face to which Pidge replied with, ‘They wouldn’t have been old at the time. They would’ve been our age and people in the 1900s were kinda crazy.’ At one of their parties though, something happened and a fire broke out. There were quite a few casualties since so many people were drunk and drugged up. Now, it sits abandoned since no one bothered rebuilding it. Now people on campus tell horror stories about how it's haunted and frats dare their new brothers to stay the night here.
The trio wasn’t even planning on coming to this location, but a lot of their subscribers kept begging them to come here. So, who are they to deny their fans? Especially when it’s “a ripe place for ghosts,” as Pidge describes it.
They all stop in front of the building, each with a different expression on their faces. Pidge is already breaking out her camera, turning it on and starting to capture things with a grin on her face. Hunk looks like he’s five seconds away from puking and his hands have a white-knuckled grip on the mic. Keith just looks bored, his eyes looking at the red solo cups in the yard and the graffiti on the outside of the building. He doesn’t miss the greek letters on the building either. Well, two of them are there, one of them fell to the ground.
“Let’s head inside,” he announces, wanting to get this over with. He kinda believes in ghosts, but they haven’t exactly had much luck in finding any. There are always things that could be explained as ghost-like, but no solid evidence to prove that it was actually ghosts.
The fire left behind some soot, burnt wood, and what have you, but the place still looked stable. Well, stable enough for kids to come in a go crazy with some spray paint. The firefighters must’ve gotten here at a decently fast time since only half of the building seems like it caught the fire. There’s one room that’s completely demolished, the ceiling open and bare to the starry sky and trees above it.
They take their time exploring the different rooms in the house. Pidge, of course, throws stuff and pretends she didn’t just to scare Hunk. It’s a little amusing but ever since that one time Hunk actually threw up on him, he hasn’t been interested in participating in the scaring. Pidge manages just fine on her own anyhow.
Halfway through exploring, Keith suddenly starts feeling cold spots. What starts as cold spots though turns into permanent cold against his body. Keith shivers and rubs his arms, noticing that his breath is starting to get foggy. It silently waves at Pidge and he watches as she has to hold in a squeal as she zooms on his breath.
“Alright, let’s turn this bad boy on,” Pidge announces with excitement after getting it on tape, handing the device to Keith.
“I hate this thing,” he grumbles, turning the spirit box on.
Different noises and sounds leave the device as Keith sets it on the ground. “Is there anyone there?” he calls in a bored tone. When nothing happens, he repeats the question. Something akin to a ‘yes’ is suddenly heard amongst the noise and static.
“Aha! Did you hear that? They said yes!” Pidge calls. Keith rolls his eyes a bit, crossing his arms over his chest.
“What’s your name?” he asks next. No answer. “Do you have a name?” he asks instead. They then hear something along the lines of a name, but it was faint.
“Their name is Lance!” Pidge deduces, pointing at the box.
“I didn’t hear that,” Keith argues.
“Yeah. It sounded more like…pants…or chance…or-”
“Y’all are lame. I know what I heard,” Pidge argues, staring down at the box.
“Cute.” The three pause at that, hearing that word as clear as day.
“Did the ghost just say “cute”?” Hunk asks, his brows furrowed together.
“I believe it did,” Pidge agrees, nodding her head.
“Maybe he thinks Pidge is cute,” Keith supplies, smirking over at the blonde. She huffs and sticks her tongue out at him.
“How old are you?” Keith continues with the interrogation. When they get nothing, he tries again. With still no response, he tries another question. “Are there other ghosts?” No answer. “Are you alone?” Nothing.
Keith huffs and shuts the annoying device off. “It seems we’ve lost our dear friend Lance,” he declares jokingly, handing the device back to Pidge. She sighs and takes it, shoving it into her satchel.
“Oh!” she suddenly shouts, becoming excited once more. “Let’s try the new device!” Keith nods his head but doesn’t become nearly as enthusiastic as she does. She clicks the device into place on her lens and messes with a few things before focusing it in on Keith again.
A light square frames his face while information is filling out beside his head. “Face Detected: human,” she reads aloud, “Sex: male, Age: 25, Mood: neutral.” She pauses before looking at him with her eyes instead of the camera. “Neutral. Really?” she asks teasingly. Keith just shrugs, looking around them at the dirtied house. She points the camera at Hunk next. “Face Detected: human, Sex: male, Age: 24, Mood: scared.” She snorts at the last part and Hunk gives her a look. “Alright, seems to be working just fine,” she states, turning the camera back to Keith.
She is then gasping and pointing at Keith with her free hand. “There’s a ghost next to you! Oh my god! It works!” she screeches. Keith tenses up with wide eyes, looking to where she’s pointing to his left. He, obviously, doesn’t see anything, but now that she’s pointing it out, his left side does feel a bit chilly again all of a sudden…
“Face Detected: ghost–oh my god!–Sex: male, Age: 122–holy cow–Mo-” she suddenly stops, her eyes widening.
“What? What’s its mood?” Keith asks, suddenly a little nervous.
“Is it angry? Does it want to kill us? Should we leave?” Hunk spitfires, staring at the spot the ghost supposedly is with a mortified expression. Before either of them can even respond, Hunk is starting to back away while speaking. “Oh great and powerful spirit! We didn’t mean to offend you! We shall be leaving at once and we promise t-”
“Horny.”
This causes Hunk to stop, his brows furrowing. “What?” he asks, assuming he misheard.
“Mood: horny,” she replies with a smirk. She then starts to cackle, her whole body shaking with her laughter. Keith’s cheeks flare up but he doesn’t even know why. It’s not like the ghost is horny over him. It likes Pidge.
“I don’t know why you’re laughing so hard. The ghost is horny over you,” he speaks his thoughts aloud, smirking at her. This only causes her to laugh harder though. His brows knit together as he watches her, his arms dropping to his sides. “What is so funny?” he practically growls, suddenly annoyed.
“It’s not me that the ghost is glued to,” she teases with a few chuckles and snorts interrupting her. Keith’s cheeks turn into a furnace, looking away from the camera. “Mood: embarrassed. Awe, Keith, it’s okay! We can leave you and your ghost boyfriend alone,” she coos. Keith huffs and looks at her once more, his hands clenched into fists.
“Shut up.”
“Ooh, Mood: anger. Saw that one coming.”
“Let’s just move on with this,” he says, starting to walk away from them. He hears Pidge’s snickers even as he walks away and it doesn’t take long for the chill to return to his retreating frame. He sighs and runs a hand through his hair, looking around for anything interesting to talk about for their video.
“Should we use the EMF gauge?” Hunk asks like the angel he is.
“Why bother? There’s clearly a ghost humping Keith’s leg right now,” she jokes. Keith rolls his eyes for the nth time and stops, turning to face her once more.
“We should use it and make sure that your dumb camera is even accurate,” Keith grumbles. Pidge snorts and nods her head before digging around in her bag for the gadget. Once she has it, she turns it on. Where she’s standing across the room from Keith, there isn’t much energy being detected.
“No fluctuations in the magnetic field over here,” she announces, making it wordy to be dramatic. She points it towards Hunk, who is right beside her, and doesn’t get much. “No ghostly apparitions here.” She then turns to Keith with a smirk, wordlessly tossing the device over to him. He catches it with ease, but as soon as it’s near him, it starts going off. She starts to laugh once more, shaking her head before looking into her camera. “This is just too good,” she mumbles.
Keith stands like an angry toddler, his hands still fisted by his sides and his body ramrod straight. “This isn’t funny!”
“You’re right, you’re right. I shouldn’t make fun of the new happy couple,” she mocks. Keith switches the device off while muttering curses and profanities to himself, most likely about her.
“Digital thermometer?” Hunk asks, playing the peacekeeper once more.
“There’s no need. I can tell there’s a difference,” Keith replies, rubbing his left arm to soothe the chill there.
“We should still show it for our audience,” Pidge informs while taking it out.
“Fine,” Keith grumbles, looking to his left once more.
While the smart duo is going around testing it, Keith just continues to stare. He’s hoping that if he focuses hard enough, he can see the ghost. After a minute or so, he sees a slight shimmer right beside him, making his eyes go round. Did he just imagine that?
“Thermal camera?” Pidge asks, bringing Keith out of his daze. She starts to get it out without waiting for an answer. Keith just stares at her, waiting for her to get it set up.
“Oh my god,” she whispers, actual shock on her face.
“What?” Hunk asks before moving to look over her shoulder, surprise filling his features once he does. “Oh wow…”
“What?” Keith asks. When neither of them replies, he gets even more annoyed. “Guys, what do you see?” Pidge looks at him for a moment before looking right back down.
“We can see him.”
“Him?” Keith asks, confused. The ghost?
“Lance,” she supplies.
“We’ve never had such a clear reading before…” Hunk says softly, watching as Pidge holds it up for the camera to see.
“I know..” Pidge replies softly, still in awe. She then starts to grin like a madman. “I know! This is insane! We have actual proof now! Oh my god-”
“I want to see,” Keith interrupts.
“You can’t exactly look at it when it needs to be pointed at yourself,” she supplies.
“At myself? But I’m not the ghost,” he argues, starting to walk towards her anyway.
“No, but the ghost is literally clinging to your side. Where you go, he goes.” She then starts to smirk again. “What’s it like having a paranormal boyfriend? I bet this is teenage Keith’s dream.”
Keith blushes all over again at what she’s insinuating. “Would you stop that? The ghost doesn’t like me,” he grumbles, completely in denial.
“Yeah? Well, his ghost boner says otherwise,” Pidge replies with a snort before starting to full-on laugh. Keith’s mouth falls open, his blush spreading to his ears.
“He does not have a boner!” he argues, suddenly moving away from where he was standing to try and shake off the ghost.
“Oh yeah? Well, what once was a purple crotch is now a blue crotch.”
“Those are both cool colors, that doesn’t mean anything,” he hisses.
“Exactly. Ghosts are cold, meaning they’d be all blue or all purple. His crotch is warmer than the rest of him though. Coincidence? I think not!” she teases, laughing all the while. She’s really getting a kick out of this.
“Whatever! Can we go now? You got what you wanted!” Keith shouts exasperatedly, starting to move towards the door.
“Oh, c’mon! Don’t be such a sourpuss! Take it as a compliment! It’s an honor to have a ghost want to fuck you!” Keith shakes his head, continuing his march towards the front door.
“Alright, alright. Let’s at least use the spirit box one more time before we go.” Keith stops then, slowly turning to look at them once more.
“Fine,” he agrees. He shivers when the cold returns to him once more. God, he can’t wait to get out of here.
Pidge hands it to him and he cuts it on, keeping it in his hands this time instead of setting it on the ground. Almost immediately, they hear, “Don’t go.”
They all look at each other wide-eyed, not expecting that even remotely. “It’s okay. We’ll stay as long as you’re around,” Pidge reassures, seeing that Keith is at a loss for words. “Can you tell us a bit about yourself?” They listen to the random sounds for a moment before she looks at Keith with a shrug. She looks at the camera and finds that he’s still there. “It must take a lot of energy for him to talk. Maybe I can make a new spirit box that would be easier for him to use?” she suggests. Keith frowns at her though. As much as he’d like to have better communication with an actual ghost, she has no way of really knowing how to improve the spirit box.
“Can you leave this place?” Keith asks. Maybe he could come with them and Pidge can use his energy or whatever to help her?
“No.” Keith’s frown worsens, guilt suddenly eating away at him.
“Are there others?”
“No.” A few beats of silence, other than the spirit box’s usual racket. “Oth…passed…”
“Others passed?” Keith asks his group.
“Maybe he means the others have passed on?” Pidge offers unsurely.
“Maybe he can’t leave because he has, like, unfinished business?” Hunk suggests.
“Unfinished business? Like what? He didn’t get his turn at beer pong?” Keith jokes.
“Well, that’s always a possibility, but I was thinking more along the lines of he didn’t get to say goodbye to his family or something…” Hunk says softly. The three go quiet then, listening to the rapidly changing noises of the spirit box.
“Well, if he’s 122 years old, most of the family he knew is probably gone…” Pidge says regrettably. She looks to her scanner once more to find that Lance’s mood has suddenly changed to “sad.” “But we’ll be your friends! Promise!” she suddenly reassures, smiling at where the scanner says the ghost is. She checks the camera again, finding “Mood: happy” now. She smiles at this, the ache in her chest starting to be soothed away.
“We’ll come back as much as possible. Since this place is closed off though, we probably won’t be able to come unless it’s nighttime though,” she continues before pausing, turning to look at the oldest of the three. “Keith, why don’t you say goodbye to your friend here while we go pack up,” she suggests, already starting to walk away without waiting for a response. He huffs and turns to where he can feel the cold emitting from.
“Well…guess this is goodbye for now…” he mumbles awkwardly. How do you say goodbye to something that can’t respond? It’s silent for a moment, other than the stupid spirit box’s noises, when he hears a word.
“Mullet.” Keith scoffs at this, crossing his arms over his chest and glaring at the blank space in front of him.
“I do not have a mullet,” he snaps.
His eyes widen when he suddenly feels something akin to ice being pressed to his cheek. His brows furrow in confusion for a moment before he gets an idea. He smirks at the blank space in front of him now, his eyes searching for something they can’t see. “Did you just kiss my cheek?” Wow, getting hit on by a ghost. What a compliment. Maybe Pidge was right. This is such an ego booster.
He swears he can hear a chuckle before the cold suddenly evaporates, his body heat warming the cool skin back up. Keith hums to himself as he places his hands into his pockets, starting to head out to follow his friends.
“I promise I’ll come back,” he swears to the seemingly empty home just before walking out the door.

Some more Phantom Pidge doodles, this time starring Keith! He’ll have the partial role of Valerie Gray, being the ghost hunter and hunting after Pidge. For the most part his outfit is based on hers, but there are definite changes, especially the mask. I was gonna cover his head fully like hers, but I decided to leave his mullet showing because I want Lance to recognize him. “I’d recognize that mullet anywhere!” Also, I couldn’t resist Keith and Pidge being handcuffed to each other. Sendak (the role of Skulker is my plan) capturing them, wanting to hunt them down, and holding their flour sack baby hostage? Pidge wants him double dead.
Anyway! I hope y’all enjoy this one! Until next time!

Ghost Hunters AU
Okay so this is a really stupid headcanon AU shit that probably isn’t original but fuck it. They dont own a show, its lik, a srupid youtube series or something.
LANCE: -He’s the dude who’s always in the frame, ya know? -Hes the most charismatic and camera friendly guy (he slowly gets better as time goes on) -Usually the one to be like “dude, a ghost just touched my ass…YO ANY LADY GHOSTS FEEL FREE TO TOUCH ME ;)” sometimes it works and he screams -VERY dramatic -Like im talking dramatic pauses, overhyping a location, stops talking to the camera to stop and be like “i feel…..a presence…” even if he doesn’t -He truely believes in ghosts and is always low-key scared thats why he never is alone
HUNK: -OH HE DOES NOT WANNA BE THERE -But he has to because these kids will do some DUMB SHIT if there isnt someone with the slightest sense of common sense -He never leaves lance’s or pidge’s side (both are secretly grateful) -whenever there is an “angry spirit” he somehow never has a stratch, even if everyone else has one -he usually brings treats he baked or something, he eats them during quiet moments and it freaks everyone out someone:“shhhh…..what is that..noise……..m” hunk: “*snack crunches* oh..was that me, whoops” -whenever he has to talk to the ghosts its usually very polite like “hello! Uh, how…how are you?” -usually the one who has to find keith when he wanders off, he hates doing that. -Whenever he knows Pidge is getting a little scared he sticks close to her
KEITH: -Oh my god this kid, needs a fucking leash. -He wanders off with a recorder and goes to the most “haunted” area and just starts talking -Oh hes terrified but he loves this shit -Whenever he comes back from wandering off everyone’s like “WHERE??? DID YOU GO??!?” hes always confused why they were scared, “i was literally like two rooms down, with the door open.” -Very camera shy, lance kinda has to keep him close for him not to wander -gets a lot of creepy recordings when hes alone -Ghosts LOVE to leave scratches on his back and shit, he sees these as badges of honor or something and everyone else is like “dude please, go get an exorcism.”
PIDGE: -Camera man, obviously. -Makes snarky remarks towards lance, jokingly of course, for laughs -Almost always the first to notice is Keith is missing. “Keith is gone…………*sigh* again” -She doesn’t do much outside of camera work and enhancing audio and shit -Is secretly always terrified and sometimes you can hear it in her voice, it quivers slightly, and Hunk doesnt leave her side, she is ALWAYS grateful and thanks him off-camera -sometimes when shes brave she’ll go into to small places -working to give keith his own cheap camera so they can get some footage of him being him
SHIRO: -He isnt a big ghost fan, he comes as like “speical guest shiro, a.k.a our ride” -He helps edit the videos with pidge, just to help. -He is the Ghost Gang's™ ride (unofficial name that everyone hates but no one changes) -Sometimes he packs little lunches for them, like oranges and granola bars and water bottles -When is there he’s by lance’s side because lance wants to show off their cool friend on camera -Easliy jumpy -“where’s keith?” “Oh he wanders off a lot” “Why do you let him??? He could be im danger??!” (Keith is always fine)
ALLURA: -number 1 fan -she tried to go on the show once but got a little spooked -made the mistake of wandering off with keith -She always recommends their videos to other friends -when she does agree to go with them she’s also very polite with the ghosts -lance also shows her off just as much as shiro
CORAN: -He is the gangs FAVORITE guest appearance, because the weirdest shit always happens with him -they forget theyre huntinf ghosts with him because nothing wrong can go wrong with coran -sometimes he’ll wander with keith, but he likes talking to the camera with lance so its not often -can get scarily serious and tell a chilling tale of the house or location they’re at, then immediately is super chipper and is skipping the halls while everyone is shitting themselves
The gang once did an episode with EVERYONE there and it was a hot mess but its their most viewed video so they plan to do those every so often

it’s you that’s haunting me by perfchan (6/6 |37,469 | Teen And Up)
Keith is a loner; his interactions with others tend toward clumsy or strained, but he has a persistent enthusiasm for the paranormal. Lance is a recent college grad; caught up in his day-to-day, he wouldn’t call himself unhappy, but suddenly feels that his life lacks direction. When Lance is introduced to Keith’s ghost hunting videos, his interest is piqued and he can’t help but want to tag along. Initially opposed, Keith soon finds himself warming to the company of the living.
A little tongue-in-cheek, a little cliché, and a little bit of a slow burn. A not-too-serious ghost hunting AU.

Here it is! Part 4! Enjoy!
Title: Forget About Ghosts, Demons are the Fucking Worst - Part 1
Series: It’s Just Me, You, And These Fucking Ghosts
Rating: T
Words: 19.8k
Summery:
“Pidge told you where they were going, right? To the woods?” Lance said. “If...If it came down to it, would you go?” “Yeah…” Keith answered, voice quiet. “I would.” Lance didn’t respond. He only tightened his grip on Keith’s hand and let out a shaky breath. It was the kinda breath that Keith could feel in the deepest part of him. The kind that spoke volumes without a word being uttered. It was worry. It was regret. It was fear. It was resignation. But most of all, it was bravery. And while to most, bravery would be a sign of comfort, a sign that maybe everything would turn out okay, to Keith, Lance’s bravery could really only mean one thing. The situation was so much worse than he could ever possibly imagine. ~~~ OR an AU where your favorite team becomes ghost hunters! Featuring: Keith 'I've got trauma!' Klance Buzzfeed Unsolved AU
So @jillyfisherman is sick and getting ready to have a birthday, so here’s an early birthday/feel better fic!
Klance Buzzfeed Unsolved AU 2: the one where the two go to a haunted house known for demonic rituals in the middle of nowhere ft. freaked out Lance and not freaked out Keith who likes to taunt things he probably shouldn’t taunt..
Lance’s fingers are digging hard enough into his arms to leave dents, yet he can’t shake his defensive stance that’s stemmed from a gripping sense of fear burning in his stomach. The second he and Keith stepped into the house, he felt a wave of dread wash over him, leaving him terrified-- shaking as he and Keith walk from room to room-- and it’s only heightened when the two moved a dusty rug in the living room to find a pentagon painted in white, chipped paint atop the creaky, wooden floor boards.
Lance squints out the dirty window at the seemingly endless miles of trees surrounding the house. He and Keith are in the middle of nowhere in a house with a pentagon that Keith finds oddly amusing. He feels scared, trapped, and a slew of other adjectives he can’t quite piece together within his fear-riddled mind at the moment.
“So we should, what, sit in the center?” Keith starts with a slight laugh that has Lance whipping around with wide eyes.
“Keith, are you out of your mind?” He starts, panicked tone doing nothing to counter the smirk playing across Keith’s lips. “Do you want to summon a bunch of demons? What if we become possessed? What if we become bound to this house?”
“Only one way to find out,” Keith says as he steps into the center of the pentagon, leaving Lance to gasp sharply, jaw practically hitting the floor.
“Keith-”
“Hey, demons!” Keith calls out as he pans the camera around in a slow circle. “Why don’t you come on out, you little shits.”
Lance backs himself against a wall as his heart thumps against his chest loud enough to echo in his ears. His mind filters through the stories, through the history of the house-- so many families have tried to live here throughout the years, and yet they’ve all left after, what they claim to be, demonic possessions. All started out so stereotypical, Lance almost didn’t believe it-- mysterious scratches and bruises, weird thumping sounds against the walls, the whole ordeal.
But, there’s a pattern that didn’t go unrecognized. Everyone entered the house, but not everyone left. In each story, one family member got left behind, too far lost against a brutal battle with some demonic entity that took hold. And, no one knows what happened to all of those left to the house, which is why Keith and Lance decided to go investigate.
“Maybe they only come out at night.”
Lance blinks, taken aback to see Keith standing in front of him, and he can’t help the sigh of relief that slips past clenched teeth when he notes that Keith still looks normal.
“You’re insane,” Lance mutters against a shaky breath as he pats his hands along Keith’s chest and arms.
“Relax,” Keith says with a smile, pointing the camera toward the floor as he leans in to brush his lips against Lance’s. “I’m still me... for now.”
He sidesteps around Lance, a teasing smile pulling at the corners of his lips, to go get their sleeping bags from the car, leaving Lance sinking to the floor and running shaking hands through his hair as fear webs in his stomach at the mere thought of spending the night.
*****
“Okay, you fucks,” Keith starts, sitting with his legs crossed in the center of the pentagon while Lance films with one hand and points a flash light toward Keith with the other.
“I’m right here-- a huge mound of innocent flesh waiting to be possessed.” Keith finishes as he shoots a knowing look toward the camera, one that Lance knows all too well.
“Why do you do this?” Lance asks, frowning deeply at Keith.
“Do what?”
“Taunt them.”
“Them,” Keith draws out with an arched brow. “There’s no them, Lance.” He looks away from the camera, dragging his eyes around the room. “Right?” He asks, voice echoing against the walls. “Because if there were, you guys would be here, right? Possessing me and all that fun shit. I’ve got a great body, really. You guys are missing out!”
“Keith,” Lance hisses, but Keith ignores him.
“Come on!” Keith shouts, right before there’s a loud cracking sound that booms across the house and brings a brief but blinding flash of light that has Lance yelping out Keith’s name as he squeezes his eyes shut. But, just as soon it comes, it goes, leaving the room in pitch black silence.
Lance can hear Keith breathing harshly, and he fumbles around for the flashlight he dropped, abandoning the camera in the process. “Keith,” he calls out as he gets on shaking legs and clicks the flash light on toward Keith. “Keith?”
Keith’s lying in the center of the pentagon. He’s propped up by one elbow, and he’s got his shirt pulled up, revealing a large, red scratch in the shape of an X across his torso.
“Holy shit,” Lance breathes out, body shaking all over. “Keith?” He stumbles toward Keith just as Keith gets to his feet with a frown.
“I fell and got scratched by a loose floor board,” Keith mutters, keeping one hand pressed to the throbbing scratch.
“You honestly believe that?” Lance spits out, but his face falls when Keith’s eyes meet his-- revealing a faint hint of unquestionable fear that will never find Keith’s voice.
“Nevermind,” Lance says, dropping one hand to Keith’s shoulder and offering a faint smile instead. “Can we leave?”
The tension flees from Keith’s shoulders as relief washes over his face. “Yes,” he says all too quickly, and it only takes the two five minutes to get packed up and piled into the car, leaving this literal hell hole as nothing more than a fading image in the rearview mirror.

For the ghost hunters vld au, what tone/genre of show do you think the gang goes for? Do they focus more on research and keeping it serious or do they just run towards the nearest haunted sighting and let chaos ensue?
Listen, I like to think Pidge does a lot of actual research. She doesn't want to be like one of those hack sensationalists channels. She wants to put some actual thought into things.
Unfortunately, her co-producer is Keith, and the guy does not seem to be acquainted with things like 'fear' or 'common sense'. Unfortunately, Lance loves any chance to be a camera hog and make himself look cool. This causes Lance and Keith to bicker constantly. The viewers love the bickering. Unfortunately, Hunk will freak out at the drop of a hat and start ranting. The viewers also kind of love Hunk's ranting.
All in all, it's kind of a mess! Pidge quickly learns that the best thing she can do is to do a pre-recorded spiel and then just sort of let things happen as they happen. And people eat it up. So hey! It works! It truly is just 'four friends dicking around but two of the said friends can't stand each other' energy.
#asks#lance: hah. the internet loves seeing my epic take downs of keith#keith: what 'epic take downs'? I don't remember you ever winning an argument#lance: yeah. of course you wouldn't#keith: what does that even mean????

Voltron Ghost/Cryptid Hunter AU
• Coran is the one that makes all of their equipment. Hunk and Pidge help out a lot, and take a lot of notes during their searches to use to improve all of tech they have now, and come up with ideas for news ones.
• Allura is the camerawoman. She goes along with the squad because she's one of those horror junkies that lives off of scaring herself to death. Also, she's still learning how to use the camera so the shots aren't always as good and she tends to focus in on Shiro more often than not. She doesn't realize this until they're editing the footage and “Allura, the dOOR SLAMMED SHUT ON ITS OWN AND YOU WERE ZOOMING IN ON SHIRO’S FLOOF.”
• Speaking of Shiro, they always bring him along. He does it mostly to humor them. They do it because when they go ghost hunting, the spirits always seem to latch on to him. They've found him wandering out on his own with no idea how he got there and acting really strange too many times to count. Twice they thought they REALLY lost him. The spirits also leave lots of scratches behind. Nothing too serious, don't worry. Lance called it “kinky” once and then was almost pushed down the stairs by some “unseen force.” But Shiro is always the most affected and as a result carries sage with him a lot to use at the end of each hunt and on a regular basis has to say, “No, Pidge, I am not about to smoke the world’s biggest joint.”
• Keith likes to do all of the research beforehand. He’ll spend hours sitting in front of his laptop, scribbling down information in his old notebook with that horrible handwriting of his. He’s quieter than the others, but he also likes to spout out little facts while they're hunting. Things like, “They found the bodies right here in this room” or “This is where the hikers went missing” because he knows it scares the others, and he gets way too much entertainment from terrorizing his team than he should.
• Hunk is the one they send off on his own to do sessions or to explore. You know Aaron from that “Ghost Adventures” show, who is always forced to go alone? Yeah. That's Hunk. He’s also the one that uses all of the fancy equipment. Because the others know how easily he gets frightened, they like to mess with him a little. But he gets revenge by purposefully messing with the tech to startle them. No one knows quite how he's able to do it, so they can't always tell when he's the culprit or if it's some paranormal force, and it gives them a newfound respect for him. Until they scare him again oh the next hunt.
• Pidge is the debunker. She’ll always be the one who will be the first to come up with a “reasonable, scientific” explanation for what happens. A tree suddenly shows up, lying on the ground in front of the car when they're out hunting for Bigfoot? Nope. Definitely not Bigfoot. The tree just fell on its own, completely natural. Doesn't matter that no one heard it fall. The ball rolling across the room was just… a draft? In a room with the door closed? Sure! Although she’s the one who sticks to science and logic like glue, she's also the most excited when something happens. It confuses them.
• Lance is the narrator. He does the interviews with the tour guides or past witnesses, and people like his charisma. He’s literally able to charm their stories out of them, and at this point Lance just makes it a sort of challenge to find someone who's immune to him. It hasn't happened yet. He also is the one that likes to joke around, especially when they're doing sessions, asking the spirits if he looks good and then screams when he actually gets an answer. When the team gets frightened out of their wits (after composing himself and making sure he isn't going to die of a heart attack) he pulls them back together again and calms them down, usually with a horrible pun.
#i still need to come up with their team name#but#here you go#i fell asleep halfway through working on this and finished it when I got up#ghost hunter au#Vld#voltron legendary defender#i have a serious weakness for AUs

For whatever reason I started thinking of a VLD Danny Phantom AU (ft some shancey shance)
Lance, Pidge, and Hunk are all best buds and one day they are over at Pidge’s house bc she is showing them the cool ghost portal that her parents built, but sadly it doesn’t work. Lance thinks it’s awesome and wants to go inside to check it out, Hunk doesnt think it’s a good idea, but Pidge says “why not” and just tells him to make sure he’s wearing a protective suit.
So Lance goes in and runs his hands along the walls, accidently hits some buttons, and POW, the portal powers on and Lance “dies” and becomes a half ghost and also unconscious. Pidge and Hunk are freaking out, but thankfully Lance comes to shortly after and he feels fine, looks fine, acts fine, so they all think he’s fine and keep it a secret from Pidge’s folks that they were messing around with the portal.
Later that night, though, Lance starts experiencing some weird things. Like his fork falling out of (through???) his hand, how he doesn’t even remember opening his bedroom door, yet here he is in his bedroom (but of course he didn’t just walk through the door.... right...??? no just a lapse of memory or something)
These strange occurrences persist through the next morning and he’s freaking out, waiting for Pidge and Hunk so he can tell them about all this weird stuff and maybe they can find out what the heck is going on. Lance thinks he’s being haunted or something probably and says as much to his friends, but Pidge comes up with the theory that maybe he isn’t being haunted by a ghost but actually is a ghost... or at least part ghost. The two of them help Lance out through the day as they all try to figure it out and Pidge suggests they come over to her place after school and can use some of her parent’s ghost hunting equipment to find out more. Lance is hesitant because if he really is a ghost is it smart to go into a house of ghost hunters?? Pidge promises that everything will be fine, though and so that’s what they do.
Anyways, ghost Lance confirmed, Pidge and Hunk try to help Lance get control of his new powers and abilities and just try to continue on as normal.... except ever since the portal in Pidge’s basement was activated ghosts have been slipping into their town and so they somehow become a team of ghost hunters themselves?? That’s a thing and it goes on for awhile.
Cue Keith, the new kid who just moved to town and he notices all the strange paranormal activity and is extremely interested. He also notices the two kids in his class Pidge and Hunk, who are always around and they fight these ghosts??? He’s gotta get in on that!! If only it weren’t for that annoying boy Lance who’s always trying to rile Keith up.
SO Keith finds Pidge and Hunk.... and Lance... after the appearance of another ghost and tells them he wants to join their team. They’re all hesitant and Lance is especially adamant about refusing Keith because that would mean Keith would know about his secret and he doesn’t exactly get along well with the dude, but it’s not the best time and Lance is just like “FINE” before taking off so he can go transform somewhere hidden. Keith is confused and wonders what Lance is doing, he was never around before when Keith was observing these fights, so why would he even have any say in whether or not Keith tags along??
And then another ghost comes flying in and starts fighting the other ghost?? He looks to Pidge and Hunk and they don’t seem surprised, does this always happen?? Keith usually has to get out of the area when debris starts flying so he hasn’t actually stuck around for one of these fights before. The aggressor ghost goes down fairly quickly and... that’s it...? Hunk sucks it into the thermos looking device and Keith hasn’t noticed but the other ghost has left as well??? And then Lance is back and his friends are high fiving him and Keith is so confused??? Because Lance was no where to be found?
But then the team invites Keith back to Pidge’s place and that’s where they explain everything and oh, that was LANCE fighting the other ghost, that’s.... a little unbelievable... because if Lance is ghost why does he look so human?? And then they explain the whole accident bit and Keith still doesn’t understand, b but he gathers that none of them even understand the how’s of what happened and they leave it at that.
The four of them become a well oiled machine of a team and they’re better than ever before.
Things are good and they can all relax a little more, Lance starts paying more attention in school and to the people AT his school resulting in him taking notice of a v hot senior named Takashi Shirogane who mostly everyone just calls Shiro and Lance falls very hard and quick, Shiro is so kind and nice to everyone he sees. Lance knows he doesn’t stand a chance, especially with his secret, it’s bad enough Keith now knows (though he has been a very helpful addition to their little team), but Lance can’t risk anyone else knowing and he has a feeling that that part of his life would be too hard to keep a secret in a relationship.... not that he thinks Shiro would go for him ANYWAYS, but it helps him rationalize that it wouldn’t work even if Shiro did return his interest.
A few months following there’s a very powerful ghost giving Lance and team a run for their money, they can’t seem to take him down and Lance is getting his butt kicked. There are deaths. Two of those deaths are Shiro’s parents (and the loss of Shiro’s arm), Lance finds out a few days after they FINALLY take out the ghost. Lance hates seeing Shiro so down, such a happy friendly person should not look as miserable as Shiro does. Lance decides to approach Shiro and tell him how sorry he is and offers to be of any comfort he can to Shiro and Shiro is appreciative and thanks him.
In public Shiro is a miserable mess. In private, though, he’s angry and vengeful and he wants to destroy ALL ghosts, especially the ones who took his family away from him. Haggar, also a ghost unbeknownst to Shiro, offers Shiro a way to fulfill his wish. She fits him with proper ghost hunting equipment and a pretty fancy hoverboard and protective battle suit. He questions her motivations, but easily accepts her explanation of hating ghosts just as much as Shiro does and says Shiro is much more fitting to destroy ghosts than she is herself.
And so Shiro goes out, on the hunt for any ghosts that may cross his path. The main ghost he has in his sights is the one everyone calls Blue. He looks younger than most ghosts, has bright glowing blue eyes, white hair, and a pale tint to otherwise dark skin. This ghost is always seen at the scene of every ghost attack on the town, so Shiro seeks to make him the first ghost he destroys.
With the knowledge that he can get his vengeance, Shiro is more at ease. He falls back into his life and even starts talking to the cute boy Lance in his class. He’s noticed Lance’s not so secret glances in his direction before the incident with his parents and always assumed Lance was shy and that’s why he hadn’t approached Shiro before, but then when he offered a hand of comfort to Shiro, Shiro decided that if Lance was shy he would be the one to approach Lance himself. The two get close to one another quickly and start dating officially, they become very happy together and both unaware of the other’s secret.
Shiro starts showing up at every ghost sighting in hopes the ghost boy, Blue, will appear. He usually does, but Shiro waits to make his move. He observes Blue and how he appears to be fighting for good, always sucking the defeated ghosts up into a.... thermos? And Blue never sticks around long after. He also takes notes of the other three teens who he recognizes as Lance’s friends. He starts wondering why they are always there with Lance no where to be found. He’s frustrated about his lack of answers, but proceeds with coming up with a plan to trap and take down Blue.
Shiro’s plan involves luring Blue away from the sight of any eyes, including those of Pidge, Hunk, and Keith. Shiro manages to snare Blue with an enforced ghost hunting net and he’s yelling and screaming all his frustrations and his long held grudge against ghosts and Blue specifically and he can see how terrified Blue is and Shiro then decides to take off his mask. He wants Blue to see his face as he destroys him.
Shiro does not expect the look of shock and the whisper of his name coming from Blue’s lips. It sounds so familiar and suddenly Blue is looking familiar, but it can’t be, right? This ghost is manipulating him like ghosts are known to be, but then Blue is saying Shiro’s name again and suddenly there’s a light and Blue is no longer trapped under Shiro’s net, but Lance is and Shiro KNOWS it’s really Lance because everything is slamming into place as if it’s been so obvious the whole time, but Shiro was so blind. Lance is Blue, Blue is Lance, he almost destroyed Blue. He almost killed his boyfriend.
Shiro is distraught and conflicted and he knows the two of them have to talk about this, but all he does instead is run, cutting the net before he takes off on his hoverboard, leaving Lance behind.
Shiro stops going to school, avoiding Lance and trying to sort through... everything... all his time spent hunting his own boyfriend and he didn’t even know. The fact that he didn’t know should make him feel better about it, but it only makes him feel worse.
Everything is vague after this point, but eventually they DO resolve things and Shiro joins the team and they end up fighting and taking down Haggar or something who is a v powerful ghost who basically control lots of other ghosts?? Or something, ghost army probably, I’m not sure.
(pssst, feel free to talk to me about this bc I love the idea a lot)

When Shiro’s Crossroads Deal came due, he fully expected to stay trapped in Hell forever. Instead, something yanks him out and throws his soul back into a perfectly healed body. Some of the only clues he has: a brilliantly red handprint, branded on his shoulder and bicep, and radios acting up around him.
Fortunately, Shiro’s family are some of the best hunters alive, and his best friend is a demon who stands against his infernal brethren. Together, they should be able to figure out who pulled Shiro out of Hell—because the answer cannot involve something as ridiculous as angels, thank you, Uncle Mitch—and what the creature wants with him.
Good things don’t just happen like this, after all. Not in Shiro’s experience. He doesn’t care how much this so-called “Leliel” disagrees.
Shiro frowns. “What are you, then? Some kind of extra-dramatic ghost?”
A chorus of voices hums through the radio as if the creature’s weighing several options. “You would not believe me if I told you of my true nature, Takashi Shirogane.”

Keith is a loner; his interactions with others tend toward clumsy or strained, but he has a persistent enthusiasm for the paranormal. Lance is a recent college grad; caught up in his day-to-day, he wouldn’t call himself unhappy, but still feels his life lacks direction. When Lance is introduced to Keith’s ghost hunting videos, his interest is piqued and he can’t help but want to tag along. Initially opposed, Keith soon finds himself warming to the company of the living.
