robert hasn’t told anyone who he is, only telling aaron after the car crash and their engagement, giving him the choice about whether he wants to live his life with a man who won’t ever grow old, who isn’t anything close to normal and secure. not all the rumours are good ones though, and for every high there’s a low. 105k.

Qu'ai-je fait de mes vacances ? Non, ce n'est pas une lamentation philosophique, juste une question rhétorique. Réponse : j'ai voyagé en Belgique à la (re)découverte du patrimoine culturel national. J'ai ainsi comblé une importante lacune en matière d'automobile. Lacune d'autant plus coupable qu'elle a pour cadre la ville de mon enfance, celle où mes parents résident encore et où je me rends quasi hebdomadairement : Leuze-en-Hainaut. C'est là que se trouve l'autre grand musée de l'automobile belge. Le plus connu est évidemment Autoworld, à Bruxelles, au Cinquantenaire. Mahymobiles ne lui cède en rien. Et pour cause : la collection permanente d'Autoworld est issue du fonds rassemblé par Ghislan Mahy. Seul défaut de Mahymobiles : être situé dans une petite ville. Quant au reste, les modèles exposés vont du remarquable à l'exceptionnel, en passant par l'étonnant.

À l'origine, était donc Ghislain Mahy, né à Gand, en 1907. Passionné de mécanique, il construit sa première voiture à l'âge de 17 ans. Huit ans plus tard, il ouvre son premier garage, vend des véhicules neufs et d'occasion et devient le premier loueur belge de voitures. Il débute sa collection en 1944, en achetant une Ford T semblable à celle que possédait son père. Il ne s'arrêtera plus : au total, il rassemblera un millier d'automobiles. Certaines sont en piteux état, il apprend à les restaurer en autodidacte. Après avoir entassé sa collection dans l'ancien Cirque d'Hiver de Gand, Ghislain Mahy décide de la rendre accessible au public. Après maintes péripéties, il ouvre son premier musée en 1970 à Houthalen. Malheureusement, celui-ci doit fermer ses portes en 1985, faute d'accord financier avec la province de Limbourg.

Le fils de Ghislain Mahy, Ivan, signe alors un accord avec le gouvernement belge et transfère deux cents de ses voitures au Cinquantenaire. En 1986, Autoworld est inauguré et connaît un succès immédiat. Onze ans s'écoulent. En 1997, Ivan Mahy achète une ancienne usine à Leuze-en-Hainaut pour y entreposer ses huit cents autres véhicules et ses archives. Mahymobiles accueille ses premiers visiteurs en 2000. Dans la salle principale, sont exposés une centaine de modèles restaurés, renouvelés périodiquement. La mezzanine comporte une impressionnante collection de voitures miniatures. Enfin, dans la salle annexe, sont exposés une autre centaine de véhicules, en cours de restauration ou dans leur jus.

Dès l'entrée, une Delahaye 138 cabriolet. Le ton est donné... Dans le couloir d'accès, quelques micro-machines d'après-guerre, dont une inévitable Messerschmitt KR200 et une curieuse Mochet à propulsion humaine. Dans la grande salle, d'emblée, la fameuse Ford T. Puis une Lincoln Continental Mk II, une flamboyante Thunderbird, une Corvette Stingray, une Mercedes 190 SL, une Ferrari Testarossa, une Jensen Interceptor, une Jaguar Type E entre autres, ainsi qu'un surprenant coupé Volvo et une Vivinus offerte en 1900 par Léopold II à la baronne de Vaughan. Dans la salle annexe, des trésors poussiéreux : Rolls-Royce Phantom II, Citroën de la Croisière Jaune, Hudson Hornet, Lancia Aprilia, Studebaker Starlight ou encore NSU RO 80.

Mais s'il ne fallait en retenir qu'une seule ? Alors, ce serait ce splendide landaulet Delaunay-Belleville de 1911. La marque fut fondée en 1904 par les frères éponymes. Établie à Saint-Denis, elle s'impose comme l'une des meilleures et plus prestigieuses au monde. Ses véhicules somptueux sont d'un confort, d'une fiabilité et d'une vélocité inédits. Ses deux clients les plus célèbres sont antinomiques au possible : Jules Bonnot (qui avait saisi sa supériorité sur les véhicules de police) et Nicolas II (qui accorda à Delaunay-Belleville le brevet de fournisseur officiel de la cour impériale). Préférons les têtes couronnées : Georges Ier, roi des Hellènes, et Alphonse XIII, roi d'Espagne, roulèrent également en Delaunay-Belleville. La Première Guerre Mondiale porta un coup fatal à la marque, qui vivota dans l'Entre-Deux-Guerres, avant de disparaître définitivement en 1948. La voilà ressuscitée pour quelques instants...
