Things I Would Ideally Want in Sofia the First: Royal Magic
(obviously this is going to be a show for pre-schoolers again, so they can’t get away with anything too dark. HOWEVER they did include some heavy topics in season 4)
(a lot of this is assuming that it takes place close to/directly after the finale)
• Cedric and Sofia father-daughter bonding time
•Sofia passes the amulet on/looses it in some capacity at the end and has to confront who she is without her powers. This would include parting with Clover, Mia, and Robin.
•Sofia and Roland talk about the fact that he indirectly (at best) killed his wife and they are most likely the only two people who know about it. Like take accountability bro
• The Protector’s acknowledging that they have basically made Sofia into a child solider
•The Magic Library episodes since those got really sparse at the end and felt really half assed
•Sofia confronts how much pressure has been on her for the past 4 years of her formative life
•Sofia and Miranda have a proper talk about the Amulet and how much Sofia had been hiding from her
•Tbh just have Sofia run away at some point, she is under so much stress and has the means to with her powers. Of course she’d come back and regret it, but acting that way wouldn’t be out of character for someone her age who is so mentally exhausted
•This one is pretty clearly going to be answered, but what exactly this Royal Magic School is. We didn’t see it at the school fair to my knowledge, so how is it found and why didn’t we know about it before?
•Sofia goes to the school by herself, rather than with James and Amber. Sofia’s already a very independent person, but I want to see James and Amber react to properly being away from each other for the first time
•It’s unclear if the schools that the royals choose to go to are sleep away schools, or another that they commute to. Either way, I’d like to see Roland and Miranda deal with empty nest syndrome while their kids are either living somewhere else or just very busy.
•Have focus on the other characters. Now that the Enchancian kids futures have been firmly stated, it would awkward to only have episodes focused on Sofia’s adventures. It’d be really rewarding to see James and Amber at their respective schools as well
•More detailed Cedric character arc. Now that Sofia is off at school and much more busy, Cedric has to work on being a good person without her influence being around to push him in the right direction as often. Give me a good one on one between him and Roland about their childhood issues
•If they could get Zach Callison back as James that would be AMAZING! Especially with how much his singing has improved, I think his and Darcy Rose Byrnes voices would sound amazing together
•SABRINA BACK AS VIVIAN imagine how much attention the show could get if they do! And because she was great as Vivian, of course!
•Miranda’s backstory. Who are her parents, how did she and Birk meet, how she adjusted to palace life. We see everything through Sofia’s perspective, so seeing Miranda dealing her same problems like grief or such a stark change of environment as an adult would be super interesting
•Tbh I don’t want to see Sofia in any romantic relationships. Like maybe it’s because of how young she is but I really can’t see her in a relationship with anyone😭😭 As much as a chunk of the fandom wants to see her get with Vivian or Hugo, I want them to just avoid the topic all together
•Do SOMETHING with Carrol of the Arrow, like they set up a whole thing of showing that the royals kind of suck and then never used the characters again
•Prisma doesn’t show up. Just mention her in passing like “Oh yeah remember Walmart Princess Ivy? Yeah lol that sucked”
•Jade just doesn’t show up <3
•Some sort of side special where Ariel Winter is fully interviewed about her time as Sofia. She seems so interesting, and was beginning the shower during Modern Family, meaning she would have been insanely busy but clearly cared enough about the show to continue. Desperately need an interviewer to ask her about her silly Disney Jr show😭😭
I have 2 years to come up with new ideas so expect more👹👹

Nightmares | Teddy & Gabe
where: Gabe's apartment when: 4 am, some days after the end of the spirit festival who: @teddy-byrne
The old town road was deserted. It was unnaturally silent, even the wind that normally made the wood of the houses creak was absent. Gabe was squinting in the bright light. From out of nowhere a streak of dark blood trickled down into the sand by his feet. The dark grew until it formed a puddle around him. The dark blood was all over his hands and his clothes, but he knew it wasn't his blood. How did he know it wasn't his blood? The thought worried him. And then he saw them. Hanging outside town hall.
He started running towards them, painfully slow, he had to get to them. Their faces, although he knew them, were blurry and smeared. He couldn't come close enough to see them properly, it was taking too long to run. But he knew why they were all there, because he had failed them, because he had let them die.
Gabe jolted awake. He was breathing heavily, heart pounding so hard it hurt in his chest, his face felt swollen and sticky from tears. If he closed his eyes he knew he would see the bodies again, Luke, Louis, Vivian and- he couldn't let himself finish that thought. His hands searched the dark around him, certain that there should be someone else there, that he couldn't be alone. "Teddy?" he tried, voice thick from sleep. No answer. Why was there no answer? "Teddy?!" he half-shouted, trying not to panic as he struggled against the bed-sheets to find his partner.

Muses featured:
Steve Rogers (Captain America) - currently MCU + headcanons based
Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) - currently MCU + headcanons based - I am in the process of reading her comics! So there may be comics influence coming soon
James “Bucky” Barnes (The Winter Soldier) - currently MCU + headcanons based - I am in the process of reading his comics! So there will be comics influence coming soon
Test muses:
Ororo Munroe (Storm) - X-Men ‘97 based - I am planning to read her comics for more inspiration
Muses moving:
Vivian Lancaster (Agony) - she will be moved to a side blog since she’s a much lower activity muse + an OC
Caly Byrne (X-Men OC) - she will also be moving to the same side blog since she’s lower activity
Muses being dropped:
Kayla Silverfox - I haven’t done anything with her, and since she’s almost strictly headcanon based, I feel like she’s too ooc, verging into OC territory; so I’ll drop her from my roster

Movies I watched this week (Year 4, week 4)
The blue caftan, my first Moroccan drama by Maryam Touzani, and another one starring Lubna Azabal ('Incendies', 'Tel aviv on fire'), this generation's Hiam Abbass. A daring topic about a closeted bisexual tailor who hires a new apprentice while his wife slowly dies. It's extremely slow, and tbh took me a few starts to get into, but eventually it won me over with its beauty, especially the metaphor of the embroidered blue caftan itself which he eventually finishes. 8/10.
*Woman Director
🍿
“Everyone has their reasons”
First watch: Jean Renoir's The Rules of the Game, a comedy of manners about the haute bourgeoisie in Europe on the eve of World War 2. Banned nearly everywhere for two decades.
As of now, I haven't seen four from the Sight & Sound Greatest 50 films of all time list, ('Beau travail', 'Sunrise', L'Atalante' and 'Wanda'), which I plan on visiting soon.
🍿
2 with André Dussollier:
🍿 François Ozon's latest film, The Crime is Mine, was an unexpected 1930's-style screwball comedy. A light and fluffy murder bonbon with a lesbian subplot, a feminine message of sort, and Isabelle Huppert as a faded Norma Desmond diva who used to act in the silent movies of “the great Alice Guy”! 7/10.
🍿 Truffaut's worst film, A Gorgeous Girl Like Me, was a chore to finish. No wonder I never heard about it before. An unfunny, unsexy black comedy about a an immoral, horny grifter who was arrested for murder, and the hapless sociologist who fell for her. 1/10.
🍿
"... Evidently, an Ethiopian in the fuel supply: Seems to me I'm getting the old heave-ho..."
My Little Chickadee, a strange western spoof, with two completely subversive cynics, who really had nothing to do with each other, and yet were thrown here together in a middle of an otherwise-unfunny mix. W C Fields, a boozing, resigned con-man, and Mae West, an eye-rolling, horny sex-pot. How incredible this story 'could' have been, if it was given air to breath, filled completely with one-liners, was not censured, and stripped of all the fake moralities!
🍿
Now that Jon Stewart is returning to 'The daily show', I discovered that he wrote and directed Irresistible 3 years ago, which came and went without fanfare. It's a mild and old-fashioned political satire about a Democratic consultant, the likes of which were done many times before. But it contained a fantastic twist at the end that made the whole thing absolutely vibrant. Rose Byrne is gorgeous as usual, and Mackenzie Davis felt to fill the moral fulcrum of the movie, and the end showed why. Don't read anything about it beforehand, if you decide to watch it. I saw it twice in the same evening. 8/10.
🍿
Beyond the Bolex is an interesting documentary about a fascinating man, Jacques Bolsey. It is deftly told by a young director who was not aware that the unheralded inventor of the Swiss Bolex camera was her own great-grandfather. The story of this nearly forgotten pioneer is reminiscent of other giants of the arts, forgotten and now re-discovered: Hilma af Klint, Georges Méliès, Alice Guy-Blaché, Vivian Maier, each of them earned a new comprehensive biography.
(Unfortunately in my view, this one was the blandest of the five, due to the narrator's irritating intonation.)
*Woman Director
🍿
"Stay Gold". First watch: Coppola's seminal The outsiders, the first of two coming-of-age adaptations he made of SE Hinton novels in 1983. Teenage gang members in a mid 60's Oklahoma town, born on the wrong side of the tracks, with early performances by a bunch of the "Brat pack" members, including young, red-haired Diane Lane, and cameos by Tom Waits, Melanie Griffith, and Sofia Coppola as a child looking for 15 cents. Now I'm off to see 'Rumble fish'. (Photo Above).
🍿
An Irish Goodbye, a benign trifle about two estranged brothers, one of whom has Down Syndrome, dealing with the death of their mother. Won the 2023 Oscar for live short.
🍿
3 re-watches:
🍿 “Sometimes you do your best work when you got a gun to your head.”
After reading the New Yorker story about $300K/week script doctor Scott Frank, I had to go back to his breakthrough Hollywood satire Get shorty. And indeed, wow, what a brilliant screenplay, economy of dialogue, elegance and balance, and a perfect cast (each of the 10 top billings stars was born to play their roles here). And so appropriate of him to place the emotional 'Touch of Evil' viewing scene at exactly the 45 minute mark, where it serves as the heart of the story. 9/10.
🍿 “This is your Rubicon. Do not cross the Rubicon!”
My second watching of Alexander Payne's absolutely charming The Holdovers (and the adaptation of the 1935 French 'Merlusse', which I saw last month too). 10/10 again for superb soundtrack and writing-directing as well as general kind-hearted wholesomeness.
I haven't seen 'American Fiction' yet, but in my opinion Paul Giamatti and Da'Vine Joy Randolph deserve to win this year's Oscars for best actors. Also that this will quickly become an American Christmas classic.
🍿 Oh, how I didn't like the heavy-handed Paths of Glory on re-watch. Yes, it exhibited a brave anti-military sentiments for Cold War 1957, but the injustice inflicted by the generals on the privates was laughably outdated. In was nice to see young Joe Terkel, in the second of his three Kubrick roles. And at least, it was the only time that Kubrick raised his own private curtain, by directing his (then-new) wife, as she closed the movie with her tearful cabaret singing. 3/10.
🍿
The Constant Gardener, my 3rd by Fernando Meirelles (after 'City of God' and 'The two Popes'). It's an adaptation of a John le Carré's thriller about corrupt British diplomats in Kenya, a corporate conspiracy by multinational drug companies, and a love story (which is the weakest part of the whole thing).
I had a mixed reaction to this, nothing serious, won't go into it. The only lasting memory of this for me will probably be the Kothbiro leitmotif. 6/10.
🍿
Torremolinos 73, a Spanish sex comedy from 2003. A bald, plain-looking man and his loving wife start making explicit home movies in 1973 Spain, after his career in encyclopedia sales ends, and 'become big in Scandinavia'. The premise is somehow promising, but it quickly develops into a ridiculous story about how he becomes interested in legit movies making. He ends up directing one symbolic Bergman-inspired art fart, with none other than young Mads Mikkelsen. 2/10.
🍿
2 short shorts:
🍿 Dollar Pizza - Food porn of the highest quality makes you hungry: Now I want a slice! No judgement! 9/10.
🍿 The sheep and the flower, a real time (2 minutes) animated movie that fits in 8 kilobytes. Decent graphics, animations, direction and camera work, and the matching music… all in 8kB.
🍿
Throw-back to the "Art project”:
Pizza Adora.
🍿
(My complete movie list is here)

- Amanda Kate Carter-Byrne (Baby sister to Alfred and Arthur/ beloved only daughter to Vivian and Arnold, Model and Face of Carter Industries, the cool aunt/sister who just wants peace) fc suggestion: Nicole Kidman
Brief description: She was and still is to a certain extent the darling of the family. She's loved by everyone and she knows it. She's certainly a little narcissistic, but can you blame her? She's always been in the background when it comes to her opinions in regards to the company and she doesn't mind it at all, she prefers to be their aesthetic and their muse no matter how vintage the outfit is that she wears. She simply wants her family to stop fighting, but she knows that that is unachievable... that doesn't mean that she won't stop trying to force peace upon her dramatic family. She isn't naive but stubborn... much to the chagrin of her husband who is secretly trying to claw his way to the top of Carter Industries... unbeknownst to his beautiful beloved muse of a wife. Their marriage was a love match, much to the utter disappointment of her father and mother. They love each other and are loyal... but Amanda unfortunately doesn't know that the loyalty is one-sided because her husband has been cheating on her all in the name of getting a seat in the highest of societies and make a name for himself... he's using her family's company in order to open more doors for himself... and vying for owning Carter Industries wouldn't be a bad flex for him either... but, Amanda doesn't need to know that... and fortunately for her husband, she doesn't... or does she?

Teddy scoffed, visibly disappointed in the whole situation. "I don't blame you. It's just that there is no easy way for me to prove this to you, doctor." His word was his only resort and he was a rather private person, so he would not divulge details of his relationship to someone who was assuming the worst right off the bat. When Vivian looked at him, Byrne looked back and bit his lip, resisting the urge to check the time or quite frankly, to storm right off to see the human with or without her permission. "You could always ask one of your witch friends to check whether he's been glamored. I would have no issue with that." he said after a pause, "Gabriel's going to seek me out after this regardless, so why would I bother sitting through this if I wasn't telling the truth? Granted, I need you to help him but..I could've..not shown up at all."
As their topic shifted, the Rosu pressed his lips together..feeling the tension within himself grow by the second. "..you what? Isn't that risky? If he did.." 'die', Why he couldn't even mutter the word was ridiculous, but after a short while he just accepted it. "Fine. Whatever's going to set him up for recovery."
"And how exactly am I supposed to believe that, Teddy?" she asked rather coldly, glancing up at him as she crossed her arms. Gabriel had given her his side of the story while she'd been treating him, and had spoken rather highly of Teddy. Although Vivian was inclined to believe Gabe, she also wanted to ascertain if he was under any kind of glamouring or influence. She sighed as she glanced at the large window of her office, "Look, I want to believe you Teddy, I do. But you also can't blame me for being skeptical considering most vampires are not in the business of being trustworthy..." The blonde looked back to Teddy, taking in the small micro behaviors of concern, despite his attempts at composure. "How can I be sure this isn't some performance to get him well again just for him to end up right back in my hospital bed- or worse."
"I'll be honest, it's not going to be pretty. The blood he was given, and the mass amounts in his system were enough to do some real damage to his body. I'm afraid it may have grown dependent on the blood. If he quits cold turkey now it could very well kill him, Teddy," she let out as carefully as she could. The vampiress had extensive experience in giving bad news, but this one hit her a little close to home. She had just been down this road with Chris, and now Gabe. "I've been giving him my own blood to try to taper him off safely. It's the same thing we would do for someone with severe alcohol dependence." She paused momentarily to give him a chance to process everything she was saying. "I'm recommending he stay at least another three weeks so I can monitor his responses."

Headcanon #2
During an interaction with Izak Vörös, Gabe was fed vampire blood. This kicked in an addiction which he had previously experienced and gotten over.
When he couldn't find more vampire blood to sustain the addiction he started experiencing withdrawal symptoms. Following the suggestion of Teddy Byrne he sought help from Vivian Ambrose at the Garond District Hospital.
He spent three weeks in the hospital under Vivian's care and will continue to see her for some weeks after to make sure he doesn't relapse. The day he was discharged was the day after the attack at the art gallery.

the auror bros aka the six not straights and their not straight boss → raleigh byrne, mei huang, benji york, anderson reed, ellis donaghue, marisol torres & vivian li
All Raleigh has to do is close his eyes. He takes a deep breath and instantly the moment is conjured in his mind, all encompassing. He can smell the cool night air mixed with their proximity to the bar. He can taste the blood in his mouth, hear the soft voiced exchanges between Benji and Reed overhead, see Marisol and Ellis’s shoes in his peripherals shielding him from the rest of the world, and feel the weight of Mei’s head coming to rest against his shoulder. He looks down at her instinctively every single time. But she only takes his hand and just like that, the light erupts from him.
“Expecto Patronum.”
