I'm actually trying to think of who. Straff Venture was still an active threat, Sadeas practically bragged about how his continued existence was a problem for the world. Vivena was punished by the narrative for vengeful actions.

The fact that those first two were getting a comeuppance was part of what made them satisfying, but that was far from the only reason.

Time and time again characters in the cosmere are rewarded or at least justified in the text for committing revenge murder but when MOASH DOES IT-

Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is my first Sanderson book. I started with this one because is a standalone just in case I didn't like his writing style or something... but... I love it. I mean, I was already a fan of Sanderson because of his YouTube channel (I watched all his classes about writing and that stuff) and so I'm really glad that his work fulfill my expectations.

What I can say about this book? I'll try to write something coherent lol

First off: the magic system.

I was hooked from the very beginning! I knew that it was based on colors, but I wasn't expecting this wonderful system. All the rules and limitations, the exploration of those and all the different perspectives and prejudices about it... just my cup of tea.

The characters:

I loved Siri and Susebron, Lghtsong, Vasher and Denth. I didn't care much about Vivena, specially in the first half but then in the end I kind of liked her. Not as much as the rest tho. Lightsong is my spirit animal, there's no other way of expressing it. In the moment he appeared I was like "yes, this is me". I even send a screenshot of one of his lines to my boyfriend and his immediate response was "that's you". He's my favorite character, for sure.

I was really sad when his dead came, but also kind of happy because he finally realized what he was suppose to do with his life, the meaning of it and of himself, that realization, that moment of clarity, the vision of his *first* death and the understanding of his own self just make me love his character even more. And obviously the fact that he gave his life to help Susebron was just perfect.

The plot: 

I was intrigued from the beginning. I didn't know where we were going but when it clicked and was even more hooked.

I was totally fooled by Denth and could't believe his betrayal. I honestly thought that Vivena was hallucinating when it happened lol He was my second favorite character after all. Still was even after that betrayal. I would want to know more about his backstory thought.

The plot with Susebron's priests was really fascinating, I love that kind of stuff. Everything about the God Kings was actually fascinating and I love the fact that Siri was just in the middle of it investigating and using her resources the best she could. Their romance was so cute and cool, too! I loved her character growth.

I kind of called the ending, with Lightsong giving his life to heal Susebron and Vasher being both Peacegeaver and Kalad but that didn't make less epic. I looooooved that last two/three chapters.

SO, basically... I LOVED THIS BOOK.

I cannot imagine that being an issue for several reasons:

The properties don't mix like that (so far at least). There are only 3 major characters that we have seen cross series: Hoid- who can and does change his appearance a lot, to the point where it would almost make sense to have a different actor play him in every series. Vasher/Zahel- Who can change his appearance does (iirc he isn't described as looking non-Alethi which is pretty signficant seeing as Alethi and Nalthis individuals don't resemble eachother at all) Vivena/Azure- Again based on description it seems she figured out how to change appearance slightly at least. Now, I know we have a bunch of minor world hoppers that reappear, but I would be shocked if they are included in the addaptation at all. So no reason to care about how well the character designs translate.

I am pretty sure the Cosmere is going to be split up among several companies, I don't think it would have been bought lump sum. He mentioned previously that just Stormlight or Mistborn were optioned. So unless he said something that I missed it is a non issue.

I think worrying about Era 4 is a touch premature. I would be shocked if we see it within 20 years.

Every time I see conversations about cosmere adaptations, it feels like people are just shitting on live action to prop up animation. I love animation, it’s my favorite medium of art however I respect the work that goes into live action productions. And the cosmere fandom has a tendency to go “animation is the only way to go. It’ll be better if it’s animated versus live action. You can’t do the cosmere in live action!”

My main writing project (for now)

Title: Burning Soul (I am debating on whether this will stay the title or change)

Summary/Plot (I’m bad at this part): For most of history there have been two groups of deities, the alliance and anyone else. The alliance forced the other deities onto another planet. The alliance came from misguided ideas and soon became full of bad ambitions. While this happened the rest of the deities were in their own chaos because they were not one singular group but instead many small factions. This caused the planet’s land to be split among everyone. Eventually a human like species is created,but soon the alliance notices how some of the population has powers. The alliance kidnaps these people as children and uses them to create an army, to use against the other deities. They soon notice how some of the other deities are saving the children they leave for dead and try to find an ultimate weapon (child) to destroy/defeat the othe deities but one of the other deities is done with the alliance’s bs and plans on fighting back.

This is a story of: self healing, sacrifice, demented government, hard choices, self discovery, and family.

@kaladinofhearthstone you're totally right but it extends beyond just them.

Like, one of Sanderson's best qualities as an author is that he researches the hell out of the type of people here puts into his book and a major part of that research is interviewing people from those communities. It's how he got such an excellent representation of atheism and feminism in Jasnah, how Vivena is such a great example of a reformed religious extremist, how half the characters in stormlight are wonderful representations of people with often misrepresented mental illnesses. I think he made a mistake here, though, because, with things like feminism and atheism, he already knew the arguments against them. When he tried this approach with cops without looking into criticism of them, he missed the facts that the perspective he got from the cops didn't answer the most common criticisms against them. The result is something straight out of the fantasies of a paranoid, entitled sheriff. In the first book, Marasi goes on a full page rant about how sensible broken windows policing is. The prologue in the third book is about how fatally flawed and dangerous a self policing community is. The second book's plot is entirely about how the governer and city government are corrupt bureaucrats who are just getting in the way of police, allowing a cabal of outside agitators to stir up riots among labor activists and oppressed minorities, and most of the problems are resolved when they replace the corrupt and cowardly governor with the police chief who lets the cops get on with their jobs. I love these books but it's frightening how pro police state they can be. It covers it up with surface level progressive things (it has a lesbian recurring character, one of the protagonists is an autistic woman, it criticizes huge age gaps in relationships and the woman in the fridge trope) and that's super troubling. At least B99 pretends to be critical of police. I just hope that, like the woman in the fridge thing, Sanderson is just teeing up a scathing criticism of this stuff.

So, CFSBF and all that, so I think we can have a mature conversation about this: era two mistborn is full of some pretty horrendous copaganda.
