1969 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser
The Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser is a station wagon manufactured and marketed by Oldsmobile over three generations from 1964 to 1977.
The first and second generation Vista Cruisers are noted for their fixed-glass, roof-mounted skylights over the second-row seating with sun visors for the second row passengers, a raised roof behind the skylight and lateral glass panels over the rear cargo area along the raised roof, and access to the third row of forward-facing passenger seating was accomplished by a second row split bench seat that retracted forward.
Sharing its body style with the Buick Sport Wagon, Pontiac Tempest Safari and Chevrolet Chevelle Greenbrier, the Vista Cruiser was introduced on February 4, 1964, as a 1964 model, based on the Oldsmobile Cutlass/F-85 Series.[1] The skylight roof panel was only shared with the Buick Sport Wagon and was not available on the Chevrolet Chevelle or Pontiac Tempest station wagons.[1] Prior to the 1973 model year the Vista Cruiser utilized a wheelbase which was 5 inches (127 mm) longer than that of the Cutlass/F-85 sedan.

Oldsmobile’s #VistaCruiser debuted in September, 1963, but the ideas behind its trademark feature - the “Vista Dome”-style roof, had been cooking for years. The origins of the roof design lay with stylist Pete Wozena, who worked in GM’s advanced studio; but Wozena was no doubt influenced by “Vista dome” train cars and - notably - Greyhound’s Scenicruiser bus, which had been plying the highways since 1948. The first kicked back, glass-top roofs Wozena sketched out where 1950s coupe rooflines, but in the early sixties he applied it to a wagon. The preferred form of American family travel in the early 707-era, a “vista” station wagon made for a practical and pretty car. - Wozena’s wagon idea was picked up by Buick and Oldsmobile, who built matching long-wheelbase wagons starting in 1964 - Buick’s Sportwagon and Olds’ Vista Cruiser, built on GM’s “compact” A-body. Though the divisions offered regular mid-size wagons, this pair were built on a 120” (3M) wheelbase, up from the standard 115” (2.9M). Aft of the B-pillar the rear doors were stretched and the rear section of the roof raised with a glassy surround. This made for more room and a proper forward-facing third seat. Passenger visibility was improved, but mainly the windows let in more light, for a large and airy interior. The pair soon supplanted the Buick/Olds B-body wagons, dropped for ’65. - When the A-bodies were restyled for ’68, so too were the Sportwagon and Vista, now looking very muscular (all the ’68-’72 As looked like muscle cars) despite having a “family” mission. “Regular” A-body wagons were on 116” wheelbases, Sports and Vistas now 121”. If anything, the restyle further emphasized the glassy, tall roof - both cars looked even more distinctive in 1968 and even less like each other - with Olds’ sleek sides and Buick’s trademark sweepspear. Buick dropped the lwb Sportwagon in 1969 and revived its big wagon for 1970; #Olds persevered with the proper Vista Cruiser into 1972. - Vista Cruiser sales were always decent, but being a single model on a long-wheelbase amid the vast A-body cosmos, the economics of renewing it in 1973 didn’t make sense. The name returned in 1973, but not the Vista roof. https://www.instagram.com/p/B1Jn5qElWPx/?igshid=q8556sgbxu4r

I re-read my fav fic EVER — “and other iconic moments” —recently by @noellesthings and I just love love LOVE this passage so I figured I would post it on here!
It’s a John Bender/Donna Pinciotti fic which I think is exceptionally creative, and I never would have thought to do a The Breakfast Club/That 70’s Show crossover!!
So, anyway, make sure to check out the fic!!
Here’s the passage:
Donna’s outside the Hub, staring at a couple flyers tagged against the weather-eaten paint when suddenly the VistaCruiser pulls up with a clunk and a chug across the street. It takes Donna a moment to realize who’s sitting in it.
“Bender?”
“Yeah?” Bender pokes his head out the rolled-down window, looking entirely unconcerned.
“You stole Eric’s car?” Donna exclaims.
“Who’s Eric?”
Donna ignores this. “Does Eric know?”
“Yeah, Pinciotti. Right before I stole the car, I let the dork know I was doing it. Now are you gonna ask stupid questions, or get in?”
The door’s unlocked when Donna opens it.
—
Later, Red spends three hours yelling at them: Eric tries and fails to get a word in, - I wasn’t even in the car, dad! - Bob says his Donna had nothing to do with this, and Bender just does what he always does in the presence of an adult - stares down and scuffs at the driveway with his shoe.
When Red walks off, Bob informs Donna that he’s grounding her for a week, and Eric just looks miserable.
Bender’s eyes are uneasy when he looks up at Red’s receding back, but other than that he doesn’t move till Red goes inside the house and closes the screen door behind him. He doesn’t apologize for getting Donna grounded, and Donna doesn’t expect him to.
“That was fun,” Bender notes, unwinding now that the adults have disappeared.
“You stole my car.” Eric says.
“I had a good time.” Donna finds herself saying.
“You stole my car.” Eric says again.
“Well, Eric, next time don’t leave the keys inside.”
“But you stole it.”
“So?”
Eric turns to Donna, and points at Bender. “Are you hearing this?”
Donna tucks her hands into her pockets. She doesn’t feel like fighting, or listening to Eric complain, and Eric’s sorta ruining her buzz. She grins teasingly. “Did you really leave the keys inside?”
Eric scoffs, and Bender kicks at rock in Eric’s direction when he walks away.

Wait a second, that’s not an American MD-80! What the…... I think I caught more American retrojets today at DFW than I have in the past few years! This is the Allegheny “Vistajet” A319 at International Terminal D at DFW this morning getting fueled up. I never noticed the “Vistajet” titles near the nose. Very cool attention to detail. When Allegheny Airlines ordered the Douglas DC-9 Series 30 as its first pure jets, they were marketed as “Vistajets” upon their arrival into Allegheny’s network in 1967. Allegheny had turboprops already- in 1959, the airline introduced it’s first turbine equipment in the form of the Convair 540, which was a Convair 340 retrofitted with Napier Eland turboprop engines. When Rolls Royce bought Napier, they dropped the Eland from their product line and the 540s at Allegheny were phased out in 1962. The Fairchild F-27 (US built version of the Fokker F-27) was acquired to replace the Convair 540s, but around the same time Allegheny ordered the DC-9 Series 30, they also ordered the Convair 580 which had Allison 501s which were more powerful and reliable than the Napier Elands of the Convair 540. The F-27s in Allegheny service were called “Vistaliners” and the Convair 580s were called “Vistacruisers” to complement the DC-9 “Vistajets”. #avgeek #aviation #aircraft #planeporn #KDFW #DFW #airport #igTexas #planespotting #airlines #megaplane #instaplane #Airbus #A319 #Allegheny #N745VJ #American #AmericanAirlines #DFWavgeek #instagramaviation #splendid_transport #instaaviation #aviationlovers #aviationphotography #flight #AvGeeksAero #AvgeekSchoolofKnowledge #AvGeekNation #TeamAvGeek (at DFW International Terminal D) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2AQyviBIVh/?igshid=c65gi55gdsuq

Mercedes-AMG unveils 2021 GLE 53 Coupe 2021 Mercedes-AMG GL# 53 CoupeHandout / Mercedes-Benz Blurring the lines of vehicle segments has been a Mercedes hallmark ever since they dropped the Hammer on an unsuspecting sedan-buying public. Crossover coupes, which arent really coupes at all, take that blurring of lines to the next level. The newest entrant to this increasingly crowded field? The 2021 GLE 53 Coupe. Pardon us while we check our calendars.Of course, the 53 bears no relation to its actual engine size, which is a 3.0-litre inline-six making a healthy 429 horsepower. Juicing the works is 48-volt technology, part of its EQ Boost system and delivering an additional 21 horses and 184lb.-ft of torque. Combustion torque peaks at 384lb.-ft., while the run to 100 km/h from rest is yours in just 5.3 seconds. 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Coupe Tied to this powerplant is the AMG Speedshift nine-speed automatic transmission, a unit which can be shifted via steering wheel paddles or simply left in D like Pops Vistacruiser. Power is sent to all corners via Mercedes 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system, assuring this thing will cling to corners like a frightened cat to a wool blanket. As a crossover ‘coupe’, this GLE 53 prioritizes pace (and looks) over space, meaning theres a whole lot more sport than utility in the interior. Its fastback shape cleaves several cubic feet from the cargo area in the name of style, while high-contrast color options jack the visual drama to eleven and beyond. We prefer this new Mercedes
