A couple spotted Key’mydre Anderson hanging out of the window of a moving car before the 16-year-old was thrown to the pavement.
They shrouded the boy in their coats and jackets and offered prayers as he lay half-naked and covered in grazes on the floor of Clay Mathis Road, in Mesquite, Texas, on January 22, 2022.
“The witness says he was dangling,” Anderson’s mother Shenika told local news WFAA at the time. “My baby was holding on. He didn’t want to go.”
Anderson was pronounced dead soon after paramedics rushed him to a local hospital.
Authorities initially believed the victim was involved in a car accident, before they noticed a “puncture wound” to his chest.
Then the gravity of the situation became clear: he had been shot and thrown from a moving car, just a mile from his home.
Four people, including three teens and one of their mothers, were charged with his death after investigators gleaned intel from their TikTok and Instagram activity.
One of the alleged killers, Johnathan Pyle, 21, went to trial last week at a Dallas County courthouse charged with capital murder. If convicted, he faces the possibility of life in prison without parole.
‘He wasn’t in danger’
Anderson was described as a hardworking student at John Horn High School, whom his family affectionately nicknamed “Ears.”
The sophomore had an after-school job as a cook at a Sonic Drive-In fast food restaurant to help his single mother buy groceries and support his five younger siblings.
After finishing a shift at the restaurant on January 22, 2022, Anderson jumped into the shower and then met with his grandmother Tonya Palmer to buy groceries.
Later that day, between 6:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m, Anderson got into a black Honda Civic.
Shenika said she had seen the vehicle outside her house before, and that her son knew the individual inside.
But there was a twist: Anderson had been communicating with one or more of the defendants and had gotten into the vehicle to allegedly purchase a firearm, authorities said.
“I don’t know why my grandson was buying a weapon,” Palmer said at the time to KDFW.
“He wasn’t in danger or any kind or harm or anything like that. Not that we know of.”
Robbery gone wrong
At 7:05 p.m., a witness dialled 911 at 2800 block of Clay Mathis Road and told the dispatcher that they had seen someone fall from the moving car.
Anderson was only wearing a t-shirt and underwear when police arrived at the scene. His jeans were torn from his body as he was allegedly pushed out the vehicle.
His death, the Mesquite Police Department revealed, was ultimately over the $250 in his pocket, which he earned from his after-school job.
Police said that the teen died from a gunshot wound to the chest, sustained during a “failed robbery attempt.”
It is unclear if Anderson was shot while inside the vehicle.
“When they agreed to meet up, the suspects attempted a robbery of the individual, and our victim was shot during the course of that robbery,” MPD Captain Stephen Bigg said.
TikTok provides evidence
Police began their investigation on the evening Anderson was shot dead.
Doorbell video footage from the surrounding area was reviewed before detectives looked at Anderson’s cellphone and social media history, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.
Evidence was gleaned from TikTok and Instagram accounts which alleged that Pyle, then 19, and Simon Guillen, then 18, conspired to rob Anderson.
Guillen’s mother Crystal, who was 34 during the alleged murder, and an unidentified boy, who was 15 at the time, were also arrested following the investigation. All four were charged with capital murder.
“That’s not a parent,” Palmer, Anderson’s grandmother, said of Crystal. “A parent wouldn’t do things like that. That’s called a madman, not a mother.”
It is not clear how Guillen’s mother and the 15-year-old are connected to the case nor when the three other defendants are due in court.
In the days that followed, teddy bears and flowers lined the road where Anderson spent his last moments. A vigil was held at the Cornerstone Baptist Church just two minutes from the victim’s home.
“The problem in our city is not so much the presence of the demonic, as it is the absence of the glory of God,” said Mesquite mayor Dan Aleman, who is also a pastor, during the vigil, according to Dallas Morning News.
Anderson was laid to rest on February 2, 2022 at a funeral home in South Cedar Hill.

‘You Mexicans shouldn’t be here’: Man killed neighbor in front of his kids
Tumblr media
Lonnie Ray Holcombe
A 54-year-old man in Texas was arrested over the weekend for shooting and killing his 49-year-old neighbor in front of his son and daughter.
Lonnie Ray Holcombe was taken into custody on Sunday and charged with one count of murder for fatally shooting Carlos Gonzalez, court documents reviewed by Law&Crime show.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Gonzalez on Saturday was hosting a large family party at his home in the 900 block of Hoke Smith Drive in Dallas to celebrate his granddaughter’s sixth birthday. Police said the party continued after the children slept.
As the festivities continued, Gonzalez’s son returned to the residence in his pickup truck with another man. Police wrote that the pickup truck was also playing music loudly.
Holcombe, who lives in the adjacent house, sat on his porch when the pickup truck pulled in front of Gonzalez’s home. Police wrote that Holcombe grabbed a BB gun and “fired multiple shots at the pickup truck, hitting it and causing damage.”
The man with Gonzalez’s son was also struck by at least one of the BBs Holcombe shot.
The shooting took place at about 1:15 a.m., police said.
The son and the other man then went to Holcombe’s residence to confront him about shooting the BB gun. During the confrontation, Holcombe allegedly struck Gonzalez’s son, prompting Gonzalez to leave his home and go to Holcombe’s.
During a physical altercation "suspect Holcombe pulled a .9mm Taurus handgun out of his pocket and fired it one time, striking [Gonzalez] in the chest."
Both men then returned to their properties, and several people called 911 to report the shooting and request medical assistance.
Gonzalez was transported to Methodist Central Hospital, where he died. Holcombe told officers that the BB gun and handgun were on his front porch, and he consented to both being seized, the affidavit said.
Speaking through a translator to Dallas Fox affiliate KDFW, Gonzalez’s daughter said that her family had feared Holcombe for some time. She also indicated that race and national origin may have played a role in Holcombe’s alleged animosity towards Gonzalez and his family.
“He actually told them, ‘You Mexicans shouldn’t be here. You Mexicans shouldn’t be here. You need to go back to place,'” the translator reportedly told the station.
Holcombe is being held in county jail on $250,000 bond.
The family has set up a GoFundMe:

After an 80-year-old janitor had to return to work after his rent was increased, Texas high school students raised more than $250,000 to help him retire.
The janitor, known to students as Mr James, returned to work in January after his rent shot up by $400 a month, according to KDFW. The students at Callisburg high school, about 80 miles (130km) north of Dallas, started their campaign last week and shared it on TikTok, hoping to raise $10,000. As of Friday afternoon, it had received nearly $270,000.
James’s story underscores the severe financial barriers older Americans face.
Millions of Americans are working into the years when they would typically retire – by 2030, the number of people aged 75 and older in the workforce is expected to grow by 96.5%, according to the US Bureau of Labor and Statistics. People aged 75 and older are the only age group for whom the labor force participation rate is expected to rise over the next decade.

An illegal immigrant man has been arrested for the shooting death of two sisters in their home in Dallas last week, while he also allegedly shot his daughter during the same incident.
Jose Santiago Chairez, 50, has been booked into the Dallas County Jail, and faces charges of capital murder and aggravated assault, according to Fox 4 KDFW.
Chairez allegedly shot sisters Catalina Valdez Andrade, 47, and Merced Andrade Bailon, 43, in the head inside their home in Farmers Branch on Nov. 24 at around 4:20 a.m. Farmers Branch is a city in Dallas about 11 miles north of Downtown Dallas.
Chairez’s daughter was also at the home and was shot in the arm, per a police report viewed by The Dallas Morning News. She told officers her father shot her and the sisters, according to the report.
A motive for the deadly shooting is unclear. It is also not known what type of relationship Chairez had with the sisters or why Chairez’s daughter was in their home at the time.
Chairez was arrested on the day of the shooting and was given a bond of more than $2 million. He also has an immigration hold that prevents him from being released, according to Fox 4.
The shooting took place in the 13200 block of Castleton Place.
