in defense of the brat album art
my feed stopped when charli xcx dropped the album art for her upcoming sixth studio album "brat" a few weeks ago. like many angels, i was confused at first, as the image staggered out of the code on her merch site unannounced through a vinyl preorder link that originally had no image to go with it (and yes i ordered one before seeing any visuals...). even after she tweeted it, and the creative team posted about their contributions to it, questions were left unanswered. was it real? was it just a placeholder? was it an alternative cover for the brat_360 exclusive vinyl? this is not the album cover right? one angel dared ask our god in her twitter replies.
even before i got official confirmation that this was indeed the official cover, which i think came from charli's interview with vogue after the release of lead single von dutch, i was obsessed. the green: neon, but not tacky like the overdone highlighter trend already claimed by k-pop boy group nct, rather a muted, dull lime, catching your eye but not blinding you. the font: a simple sans serif, slightly condensed and elongated, nothing over-the-top or borderline illegible like the custom fonts artists usually commission. and the blur, the pixelization, the resolution, the quality (or lack thereof)—this is what really does it for me.
they're barely there, the rough, blurred edges of each letter, but once you see them you can't unsee them. the design evokes the feeling of waiting for an image to load in full quality on instagram, a youtube video playing in less than 1080p while buffering, a hi-res photo downloading from the cloud, a show or movie lagging its way into clarity on streaming services. or as oomf (@_alienmelissa) using a fan edit of von dutch lyrics put it:
(trans: lyric videos around 2008 all had fonts and backgrounds like this..........)
while thinking about the many implications of the low quality text on the cover, i read the essay "in defense of the poor image" written by hito steyerl in e-flux journal back in 2009, which perfectly put into words what i had been ruminating on:
[The poor image] mocks the promises of digital technology. Not only is it often degraded to the point of being just a hurried blur, one even doubts whether it could be called an image at all. Only digital technology could produce such a dilapidated image in the first place.
"one even doubts whether it could be called an image album cover at all," as many have due to the "poorness" of the brat art. better yet, steyerl goes on to proclaim "resolution was fetishized as if its lack amounted to castration of the author," also predicting the mass ridicule of charli for choosing and releasing such a "hurried blur" of an album art design.
regardless of what you compare it to, the low-res, early internet digital aesthetic it speaks to is something i haven't seen spoken much about. many twitter gays are up in arms about the lack of an image of charli on it, breaking her faceful cover streak (although she does hide it a bit on pop 2), and not giving them a new image to set their profile pictures to. charli has acknowledged this in the vogue interview: “I mean, as a female pop artist, what’s more bratty than not being on your album cover? Especially when there is so much pressure for women within the pop sphere to do exactly that," as well as in a tweet posted right before i started writing this:
which grimes replied to while i was writing this:
grimes scratches at what i'm getting at, but is more focused on the shock value that comes with its loud simplicity. this sentiment of breaking the feed, cutting through the visual muck and endless faces with a bold monotone color and by refusing to show face, is something i also admire. yet i think why i feel so passionately about the aesthetic value of this cover is that it offers me a respite from the overflow of high-res images mediated through the internet and onto my phone screen.
i'm so sick of the flood of iphone/digital photography, its quality increasing with each new device release. these images try too hard to replicate what they're representing, and create a false reality that many (myself included) get trapped in. we've sunken into the uncanny valley, and it's about time we claw ourselves out. i don't want to experience the physical through the digital anymore. i'd rather see all your pores when you're inches from my face than through the insane number of pixels resting in my palm. i want the images on the internet to be so obviously contained within it that there's no mistaking them for something material. i think this is why i'm such a fan of camcorder style photography and videos: like the chunky pixels surrounding "brat," they whisper i'm not real, i'm flawed technology, i will never replace the resolution of your retinas.
lucky for me, brat isn't the first artwork to do so, as there seems to be a shift back towards the materiality of the offline and the rougher edges of early internet interfaces within the broader art and design world as well. kat kitay describes this as "technoromanticism" in her essay "what's after post-internet art?" for spike magazine:
Exposed circuitry departs from the post-internet gloss typified by DIS Magazine, which shined up or hid away the ugly parts of technology. Hardware is made visible, laying bare the flow of power and information, at the same time transfiguring electronics into sacred objects.
replace DIS magazine with PC music (its audio equivalent imo) and you'll get an analogy more relevant to charli's own aesthetic journey here. the super slick black lamborghini on the cover of the vroom vroom ep has driven off, her impossibly iridescent skin on the cover of pop 2 has shed its shine, and the skyscraper she's perched on for the cover of xcx world (RIP) has long been toppled, leaving nicki minaj's gag city in its ashes. the brat cover is the antithesis to these eras.
while ecco2k croons all i wanna see is 1080p / but reality keep me on 240 on "hold me down like gravity," maybe it's time to embody the "240" of reality again. with charli teasing this record as her clubbiest to date, tapping back into her party girl roots attending uk raves in her tweens, brat offers us a chance, both visually and sonically, to embrace the blur, the sweat, the adrenaline, the tears, and of course, the poppers fumes, of a low-res life.

Not a suggestion, more a question - how do you make your stickers? Your art inspired me to make stickers but I don’t know where to start!!
Ooh Tutorial Time! I have a small rundown of my process here. (I’ve got a video here, but I’ve had an update in my materials. Also this got a little away from me, I hope this helps and lemme know if there’s anything I need to elaborate on!)
--- Materials: Printer - Epson Ecotank 8500 Cutters - Silhouette Cameo 4s (I’ve got 2 at the moment) Paper - Zicoto Glossy Vinyl Laminates - Glossy and Holo Star Laminate (Both Self Adhesive) Misc Off Brand Sticker Cutter mats Ruler Squeegee with extra microfiber wrap Sports glove tack spray or sewing basting spray
Printer - Aim for a photographic printer at the minimum. General print quality, color variety, and paper handling will make sure your prints are the highest possible quality. They’re a little more expensive, but my last printer lasted 4 years with frequent weekly printing. The ecotank is nice, it’s more visual that the ink is actually disappearing than the pre-filled cartridges lol. Cutter - I’ve only used Silhouette, but I’ve heard to stay clear of Cricut due to general cut unreliability and lack of customer service assistance. I’ve also heard great things about the Siser Juliet cutter from mutuals. In order to use 2 machines at the same time, I had to purchase the Business license ( p sure it was a one time $50 purchase, but I can work twice as fast). If you want to cut by hand, check out what kind of ergonomic scissors you can find. Classic scissors over time can really screw up your hands, especially when you’re making fine cuts.
Printing and Sizing - The Silhouette Studio resizes your stickers without many issues with quality changes. This does kinda depend on the base size of your files. I always make my stickers on a canvas 3000x2000 pixels and 300 dpi. I wouldn’t go any lower than 100 dpi for print, and no larger than 500 dpi, but you can always test this out.
Paper - I enjoy the luster of the paper I linked above, there’s almost a pearlescent quality to it. If you’d like a different quality, I recommend still sticking with glossy vinyl for your paper. Laminates on matte sticker paper have had a lot of trapped air underneath for me and it tended to be more likely to bleed in contact with water despite being laminated.
Laminate - If you’re just doing paper finish stickers, you can skip this step :)
Laminate them to make them more water and scratch resistant. The laminates I’ve listed are all self adhesive. There are also heat adhesive laminates, which require a heat laminator. I haven’t experimented much with heated laminates. Mine are best rated for hand wash, though they can go through the dishwasher a few times. When laminating your sticker sheet, be sure to not cover your registration marks. When your cutter tries to read over them and the surface is really reflective, it can cause the machine to read improperly (and it’s worse with the holographics lol). Either precut your laminates like I do in the video I linked above, or you can use matte tape over your laminate to dull the sheen. If you accidentally cover your registration marks, the matte tape is a lifesaver. Self laminating takes some muscle memory to not get bubbles trapped under the laminate, but a wide squeegee and firm pressure helps make sure you get as few bubbles as possible. Mats - Your cutter will come with a few, but I find that my off-brand ones are just as good and less expensive. I prefer low-tack, but there comes a time when the tack is absolutely gone, and I have 10+ mats just sitting around. That’s where the Sports Glove spray or Sewing basting spray comes in! After washing them (soap and water, then dry for a few hours), I hit them with a few coats of spray. Right now I’m using Pow’r Tac Grip Spray. It’s just ok, but this leaves less residue on the back of my stickers than the Basting Spray I used to use. I retack every month or so, but that’s more bc I’d prefer the mats to be less sticky than risk ripping my backing sheets.
----
If there’s anything you’d still like to know, please let me know!!

If these are next-gen characters, who is who's parents? (like who is Stellar's parents, who is Kunzite's parents, etc etc)
I'mma answer this one in text this time, this is a next gen AU. Not all of the characters are next gens. Stellar is just an OC (Who's parents will be revealed in time but if I say who now it will be very spoilery) Then some of the next gens ended up in this universe from another universe because they were either adopted or I just wanted to create them.
I can show a list of the current next gens though, fair warning, the list is long: Pixel Note: Button Mash x Sweetie Belle Apple Slice: Caramel Chance-A-Lot x Applejack Appleseed: Caramel Chance-A-Lot x Applejack Sharp Gleam: Diamond Tiara x Snips Gem Shine: Discord x Rarity (another universe transfer) Sunrise Illusion: Discord x Celestia Muffin: Doctor Whooves x Derpy Hooves Time Bubble: Doctor Whooves x Derpy Hooves Rose Seed: Feather Weight x Babs Seed Blue Ribbon: Flam x Cherry Jubilee Constellation Sparkle: Flash Sentry x Twilight Sparkle Apple Cider: Flim x Apple Fritter Apple Crisp: Big Macintosh x Fluttershy Crass: Grogar x Everest(OC) Star Tricks: Luna x Trixie Lulamoon (another universe transfer) Dream Walker: Sombra x Luna Mint Swirl: Lyra x Bonbon Pop Rocks: Lyra x Bonbon Shooting Star: Mordecai x Twilight Sparkle (another universe transfer) Midnight Aurora: Nightmare Moon x Everlight Everlasting (another universe transfer) Record Label: Octavia Melody x Vinyl Scratch Play Wright: Pink Tom x Trailblazer (another universe transfer, parents are from the @projectfimily universe) Honeycrisp Apple: Pip Squeak x Apple Bloom Surprise Pop: Pokey Pierce x Pinkie Pie Quick Dash: Rumble x Scootaloo Luminia: Sassy Saddles x Thorax (another universe transfer) Gem Gleam: Snails X Silver Spoon Cumulus: Sky Stinger x Vapor Trail Spectra: Soarin x Rainbow Dash Thunder Cloud: Soarin x Rainbow Dash Molto Vivace: Songbird Serenade x Rainbow Dash (another universe transfer) Crystal Fire: Spike x Rarity Kunzite: Spike x Rarity Opal: Spike x Rarity Bright Idea: Sunburst x Starlight Glimmer Sunset Sparkle: Sunburst x Starlight Glimmer Luster Dawn (Yes, I know she's from the show but I wanted to incorporate her in the next gens): Sunburst x Starlight Glimmer Dawn Delight: Sunset Shimmer x Trixie Lulamoon Royal Blue: Blue Blood x Twilight Sparkle (another universe transfer) Spring Breeze: Vapor Trail x Tree Hugger Evermore: Zecora x Gizmo Lightning Strike: Master x Marble Pie (He is not sure where/when he came from anymore)

Jujutsu Kaisen HugMy Tamagotchi Set First Impressions
Our first HugMy Tamagotchi Set review! Bandai America sent us the Jujutsu Kaisen HugMy Tamagotchi Set to review and we want to share our first impressions of this Jujutsu Kaisen collaboration with cute vinyl figure. Here’s our first impressions of the device:
Packaging - The box that the HugMy Tamagotchi come in is really cute, it’s bigger than what you’re probably use to, but it gives Bandai more space to show off the product. The box itself for our Itadori is orange and the front shows off the set, while the sides show of the set you’ve purchased, and other side shows off the entire collection. The box is made of cardboard and feels pretty solid, and glossy!
Once you open the box, you’ll see the Tamagotchi Nano itself facing down, and once you pick it up, you’ll then see a cardboard separator. Underneath the seperator is where you’ll find the vinyl figure that is paired with your Tamagotchi. The packaging of the Tamagotchi Nano is just like every other imported Tamagotchi from Japan. The packaging is significantly smaller than what you would see in North America. We really do enjoy the smaller packaging of the Tamagotchi itself. The packaging is a mix of white and orange with the Jujutsu Kaisen characters the device.
The vinyl figure at the bottom is covered in a plastic page, and partnered with a paper insert in Japanese explaining the functionality. The vinyl figure even has Itadori’s signature outfit and everything.
Build Quality - You know the routine, these Tamagotchi Nano’s are solid. They can definitely survive a few drops without an issue, and perhaps any scratches. It is important to note that since this device is imported in from Japan, and not localized, the back features the push pin mechanism for the battery door, instead of the traditional screw. Fans can rejoice, as this seems to be a rather popular ask of the community. Our only complaint is that the buttons are harder to press on the model we have received, but that might just be ours. We struggled to have the Tamagotchi understand which button we were pressing.
The vinyl figure is solid too, you can definitely feel that is made of quality materials. The paint on it was precise, and we really love how both the neck and arms moves. You can place the Tamagotchi Nano in their lap, and then move their arms on the left and right to cradle it. No reason the move the neck, but we like the option if the opportunity presents itself.
Screen - The Tamagotchi Nano platform features a higher resolution screen than the Tamagotchi Mini platform, so you’ll notice more pixels and details over the Mini. It is very important to note that the screen on these Tamagotchi Nano’s is recessed, its cute deep in the device and is very hard to photograph because of the reflection and necessary angle to capture a clear shot.
Game Play - If you’re a Jujutsu Kaisen fan, then you’re going to love this Tamagotchi. Everything from the opening sequence, to being able to raise 16 characters total including the students from the Tokyo School of Magic College, Kyoto School of Magic College, and more.Don’t call them mini games, they’re training! The training activities are adorable too, and are just what you would expect on the Tamagotchi Nano platform. “Put the Cursed Corpse to Sleep” is where you’ll press the button displayed on the screen to keep the corpse sleeping, otherwise you’ll be punched! The second training activity is “Catch Sukuna’s Fingers” where you will catch the falling fingers while avoiding nails. Lastly, the “Use your Cursed Tool” training activity is where you will press the “A” button as many times as you can for 15 seconds or else the cursed spirit will rejoice!
Now it’s not just all fun and games, you have to make sure you train your Tamagotchi to be strong because you will be constantly fighting off cursed spirits, that’s what Jujutsu Kaisen is all about! We also really liked how you will see some surprise characters periodically. Just like every other Tamagotchi Nano collaboration, you really see the theme throughout the daily gameplay.
Don’t forget about the vinyl figure. This definitely adds to gameplay in our opinion. We really enjoyed resting our Jujutsu Kaisen Tamagotchi in the lap of Itadori and having Itadori hold it snug throughout the day. This also helped us see what was happening on screen. We must admit, we’ve even used the Tamagotchi inside of the arms of Itadori too! It really helps the character and Jujutsu Kaisen experience leave the screen and become tangible. If you’re a big Jujtsu Kaisen fan, then you’ll probably want one of the four vinyl figures, if not all!
This version is awesome for Jujutsu Kaisen fans. You’re going to love the simplistic game play, raising your favorite character, and training your Tamagotchi. Oh did we mention those surprise characters that just appear? Just by periodically playing with the device we’ve already been able to care for several characters that we’ve recognized from the movies, and we’re so excited about caring for all 17 of them!

Benefits of digital theatres
Unlike digital visuals, the films used in analogue theatres (which are based on vinyl records) deteriorate with time. Even if a DVD is scratched, it can still be easily backed up, for instance on a hard drive or another DVD. A career in design from MAAC institute guarantees success and heights.
*In contrast to analogue film-based cinemas, which require dedicated employees for receiving, preparing, exhibiting, dismantling, and returning the movie cassette films, digital cinemas can be displayed and maintained in the theatres by unskilled labour (with minimal training).
*Digital cinemas can be distributed electronically via the Internet, satellites, or even hard drives, which is easier, faster, and less expensive than handling and shipping bulky film tapes.
*In the film industry, supply and demand are rarely in balance. Suddenly, a movie could become a smash hit, creating a need for screenings on extra screens. In certain circumstances, it is significantly simpler and quicker to distribute extra copies for digital theatres.
*With digital theatres, adding and removing scenes after a film has been released is simpler and less expensive.
*With strong copy protection, encryption, and watermarking procedures for digital movies, piracy may be managed more efficiently. In the digital format, there is a greater probability of the introduction of new anti-piracy technology.
*The solid state projectors used in digital cinemas are more compact and take up less room than analogue ones.
*The cost of the digital tapes/external hard discs used in digital cameras (camcorders) is significantly lower than that of analogue film-based cameras, allowing the same scenes to be shot more frequently until the director is pleased.
*With a digital camera, the sequences can be seen right away after being shot, allowing the director to decide right away whether new lighting conditions or reshoots are necessary, etc.
* In digital cinema, there are many instruments at our disposal for adding special effects. In actuality, the sequences might be entirely produced utilising computer animation and visual effects.
*The movies playing on the different screens in a multiplex can be scheduled automatically with the help of management software designed for digital theatres.
* To ensure compatibility amongst the major digital cinema manufacturers, a group established by the major production studios called DCI - Digital Cinema Initiatives - is working to standardise the key requirements for digital cinemas.
*For versatility and upgradeability, digital cameras frequently use detachable modular components that are extremely adjustable. Additionally, they are able to capture photos with a resolution of up to 4096 by 2304 pixels.
*If a theatre can show digital movies, it can also stream live events or host conferences with very little adjustments to the theater's setup.
*In digital 3D, the 3D effect is portrayed via polarisation rather than coloured glasses, as in traditional 3D theatres. This guarantees that the final image's colour is not distorted.
*Digital cameras are said to be superior for indoor photography and low-light shooting at night.
*Digital cinema is helpful for low budget films produced with minimal manpower because such films have fewer budgets and there are alternatives for less expensive digital cinema recording, processing, and dissemination.

Pixel Scratch
Tried out pixel art kinda for the first time. I’ve always considered myself as being bad at pixel art, but I found out an easy technique to do it.. I think the head is a bit too small, but hopefully you like it.. x3
