Chaotic photograph session of the stuff I got from goodwill because my house has been taken over by giant boxes of bean bag stuffing, and it's too dark out to take photos outside. Why don't they just cut out the middle man, am I right?
Anyway, on to the things I bought:
First up, I've been looking for scarves to use as gift wrapping, and I liked this green dramatic flowery one.
Tumblr media
I didn't know where else to photograph it, so I just threw it on the fridge. It went right into the cleaning pot anyway. My sister's birthday is Monday (I'm writing this on Saturday lol), so I have to get it cleaned and dried before then.
Another awkward shot, but this apron was really my style!
Tumblr media
It's from Reprime, I guess, not a brand I'm familiar with. I've been looking for an apron either for painting or cooking, or both, and this one was $1.50, is one of my favorite colors, and has a cool zippered pocket as well as two open ones, so I kind of needed it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ooo, bad photos. I found this sheet that's half white with dino prints and half blue with dinos (like, just straight up half-and-half, no border or anything). I really liked the look of the dinos, so I want to whip this into a skirt. It was also only $1.50, so even if that plan falls through, it can live in my stash for a while.
The next stuff is a group photo because of tumblr's dumb photo limit, but it's lotsa stuff.
Tumblr media
The Sailor Jupiter was a big surprise, I gotta say! I don't remember if I had Jupiter as a kid, but I did have some of the senshi, so a 90s Irwin Sailor Moon doll was really nostalgic to find.
Of course she's uhhh bald. The cashier saw her and went, "Wow, she's been through it," and I couldn't agree more. Her legs are a little sticky and stained, and the battery in her back was bad, so it's likely that her hair just fell out. I could reroot her, but I don't have hair on hand and I don't remember where my rerooting tool is, so she might get a wig instead. I haven't decided!
She was arguably overpriced at $6.50, but she did have her gloves, shoes, and necklace, and I wanted her, so she was my big splurge for the trip.
Tumblr media
Ooh that shadow. My kitchen is a terrible place for photos ooh.
Jupiter having her Catwoman moment.
Anyway, I love little plushies, and I saw a bag full of McDonald's plush and pound purries (it's stylized as Pound Pur-r-ries on the tag, but everyone just writes purries so idk) and I had to bite. The McDonald's plush are 1997's Animal Pals, and I think we had the moose when I was a kid? Also the Internet says the bottom one is a brown bear, but I know a wombat when I see one.
Kinda funny that the plushies and Jupiter are both marked 1997. The plush are also in good condition, and they fit right in into my tiny plush collection!
The book was mostly a response to my constant impulse to buy vintage or antique books that cost a dollar. I also love poetry, but these poems are... let's just say not my style. I haven't finished the book, but my favorite so far is "Cat".
Tumblr media
The twins have a bunch of toys, many of which make noise, and they love chasing their tails. The only thing is they aren't allowed out. They're indoor babies and also trapped in their baby house mostly.
And lastly, I have such a hard time resisting Halloween kitsch, so when I saw these adorably terrible hanging sign things, I just... I needed them.
Tumblr media
They also glow in the dark!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think I might put them in my window, and it's not lost on me that I passed on a trans flag but had to buy these. It's a compulsion.
Of course, I bought kind of a lot and spent kind of a lot of money, but things are really going on around here, and getting out of the house was a necessity. And I can't say no to things.
Also, interestingly, they've started a bag tax at goodwill! It's the first time I've seen that in Arizona; mostly cashiers are baffled when I pull out one of my dozen Halloween bags because I really don't like plastic bags. Bag taxes are pretty annoying, but it's good practice to use some sort of reusable bags. We've gotten a few from restaurants free with purchase, and libraries. The Halloween ones mostly from target, which used to have a whole bunch of cool stuff. Not anymore, though. Not anymore...
Ok bai!!

Mildly interesting things I own:
-a broken pocketwatch with two really pretty spots of wear on the face -the cover of a 100+ year old german bible -a ton of old vintage photographs, a dmv card from 1918, a brochure for the world’s fair from 1889, a bunch of old newspaper clippings etc, all acquired by not quite nefarious means from my old job -the components of a stained glass mobile that once belonged to my grandmother. she was part of an art exhibit and her poetry was printed and displayed along with this mobile. it includes orange sun-circles, blue waves, rectangles of green and clear glass, and two large white-and-mirror eyes. i haven’t put it together because i want some nice driftwood to attach it to. -a empty glass bottle with “knoxit” embossed on the side. apparently it was gonorrhea medication in the 1950s. -a globe which i bought from goodwill for ~50 cents and turned into a lamp -a heart-shaped pin made from abalone with the letter “p” on it in wire and a little red gem where the curves of the heart meet. i found it in a bowl of free trinkets on the street. -a jar of bent spoons -a jar of large dried up pieces of honeycomb taken from an abandoned beehive -a new york magazine from the 70′s with a main article about andy warhol and a smaller one about monty python’s new movie, holy grail -a small collection of letterpress blocks -a long robins egg blue wooden chest. i went to goodwill to buy an end table in 2017. there was no end table, but there was this chest and it spoke to me. it was $8. i never bought an end table -a working royal royalite typewriter -loads of old foreign stamps acquired from a local maker store -some pysanky eggs -a pair of porcelain hands i found in an alley in chicago -a pocket book (? i don’t know any other word for it) from 1923 by the nixon livestock commission company. the inside includes a 1923/24 calendar, an “identification” page to record your name, license plate, height and weight, etc, a “help in case of accident” page with handy tips if you get hurt or poisoned, a page on calculating interest, a bunch of pages about postage and mail, a few pages on the populations of various cities, space for addresses, a bunch of grid pages for notes, a page on anniversaries/holidays, etc. -a vintage wooden cigar box without a lid. i keep my packs of incense sticks in it. -a pair of old art deco-ish salt shakers that have oxidized a bit -a glass that was specifically made to look dimpled and bent out of shape, like it has a cramp and is bending over. it was given to me by a coworker who didn’t want it anymore. -a smallish turtle shell -a pair of old victorian-style wire sunglasses. i found them tangled in a dish rack full of dirty cups at my old job as a dishwasher. i have no idea how they got there.

Dark Academia (Thrifting Edition)
Thrift stores are the best thing that ever happened to my style. It takes some commitment (and a lot of trips because they are always getting new items), but it's so worth it. Goodwill is my go-to because they have everything from plaid pants from the 90s to brand new turtlenecks. Today I visited Re-Uzit and found a belt and like-new grandpa cardigan for a total of only $4.50. New, that would have cost me somewhere around $35-$40 minimum.
It's great when clothes are organized by color, because that way you can focus on your beiges, browns, blacks, and greys.
Find shoes! It's difficult for me to find shoes at thrift stores because I wear a women's 11, so if you have normal sized feet (or not!) embrace it and buy shoes for like $8 instead of $40. Plus, a lot of shoes at thrift stores will be more vintage-y and thus more dark academia.
Make your shorts out of bigger pants. It sounds a little odd, but my favorite shorts are ones that I got as jeans and curdoroy pants at least 2 sizes up. I have a pair of men's jeans that I cut and rolled up and are now the best shorts I have ever owned because they are perfect paper bag fit when cinched with a thin belt.
I've been looking for a leather messenger bag the last few times I've been thrifting, but no luck so far in finding exactly what I'm looking for. Bags are certainly something to look at, though!
Books. I cannot stress this enough. Get books to read. They're like $1. Or, like I did, you can get books to rip pages out of (calm your little head, it's not sacrilege) and tape to your walls. I got an art book printed in the 30s and I tore out some of the paintings to hang up. This also is great for poetry books.
Lastly, boxes and jars. I have found some of the best little wooden boxes in thrift stores and they look like they belong on a mantle in a mansion in the 1800s. I also find some cool apothecary jars that I put dried flowers in.
That's all I've got for now! Feel free to reblog and add on any other tips that you have :)

A *Strange* Method Of Brainstorming Character Styles & Traits
Tumblr media
-- I really like finding unique ways of doing things and interesting approaches to getting tasks done, especially when it comes to writing. I, myself, have a strange way of brainstorming when I’m uninspired (which is 99% of the time, let’s be honest), and I’ve been asked by many friends and other writers how exactly my method of creating characters works. For those of you who struggle with finding somewhere to begin with your characters, I hope this helps, at least a little bit. Enjoy!
Side note: this focuses more on character styles, fashion tastes, aesthetic things more than actual character traits, though it’s totally possible to tweak it to fit your needs. This is a loose explanation and very flexible, and is more geared toward inspiring you than actually teaching you a carved out method of creating full characters.
Step-By-Step Directions
It’s important to clarify before you read the following steps that this is merely a suggestion. You can interpret these instructions and, as always, twist them to fit your own needs.
Step 1: Find a few flavors or describable things that compliment each other. Basically, umbrella things that have multiple, more specific, types or titles. I.E. for perfumes, you could pick “Tom Ford” or “Chanel No.5”, “Clair de Lune”, “White Diamonds”, “Black Opium”, and “Viva La Juicy”, and go from there. Some examples of these (as it’s hard to describe what I mean) would be:
Flowers
Teas
Perfumes
Songs
Textures
Times of day
Types of clothing
Constellations
Moon phases
Shapes
Animals
Step 2: Take the time to brainstorm things that you associate with each smaller piece. Things like:
Sounds
Songs
Feelings
Scents
Textures
Personality Traits
Physical Features
Colors
Styles
Aesthetics
Places
Situations
Memories
Concepts
Step 3: Assign people in your life to each little bubble in your brainstorm based on their looks, style, personalities, memories you associate with them, and so forth. Avoid characters from other books or movies or content written by other people. These people can be:
Friends
Family Members
Role Models
Celebrities
YouTubers
Models
Step 4: Research names that you think would fit well with the associations you’ve made in every category. If you think someone named Cynthia would enjoy sipping Pomegranate Tea while listening to “Somebody Else” by The 1975 on a rainy Tuesday morning before pulling on her baby pink “girl power” hoodie and leaving for pole class, then call her Cynthia.
Step 5: Fill in the blanks. Make a makeshift character development chart and use it to outline your character based on the brainstorm you’ve just done.
Here’s where the example comes in!
I’ve included an example of when I did this (the associations bit). If you’d like to try this out on your own, I recommend at least giving it a shot. It’s a good way to sort out what style and general tone you want to portray with your character and having some stray backup ideas is always a good idea. Have fun and remember to think outside the box. Happy character building!

For some, shoes are an accessory: a stylish embellishment to elevate the rest of your look. For others, they're more of a tool: a practical necessity to allow you to travel from point A to point B. The best shoes are a little bit of both. Regardless of style or comfort, almost all of us have at least one pair of shoes that holds emotional meaning much greater than any other pair. Because our shoes quite literally carry us throughout life, sometimes we find ourselves with a pair that holds a special place in our journey—a pair that we can't stand to part with no matter how broken or out of style it might be. These are exactly the stories told in the brand-new book Our Shoes, Our Selves by model, actress, and activist Bridget Moynahan (aka Natasha on Sex and the City ). This chic and inspiring coffee table book compiles photos and essays from 40 famous women (including Katie Couric, Cecile Richards, Rupi Kaur, Padma Lakshmi, and more) about the one pair of shoes in their closet that means the most to them. Preview some of the stories in the book below, as well as a few shared by us Who What Wear editors. Then feel free to DM us the story of your most meaningful pair of shoes on IG @whowhatwear . “They are Punjabi Juttia—boldly colored leather-crafted shoes that easily become the highlight of any festive function. Since the old days, they’ve become a staple of my outfits, in rural Punjab, basement bedrooms, college dorms, and eventually houses. I wear them on tour, at parties and weddings, on casual strolls at home, or on my travels. I’ve even begun to see them refashioned and reshaped for Western wear by those brands that always take the most culturally relevant elements of a people and re-create them for Western wallets.”. — Rupi Kaur, poet and artist “We first got to know Nike at a women’s event back in Los Angeles when I was sixteen and Halle was fourteen. We had just signed with Beyoncé, but we hadn’t announced it to the world. “Then Nike asked us to do a half marathon. We trained for about three months, and I remember being scared out of my mind. … It’s the only half marathon I’ve done, but every time I go running, I use this shoe. I have so many other Nikes, but I always end up with these because they remind me of that time of my life. “I got to customize my Nike Flyknit Lunars myself—I picked all the colors on the app, and they even have '1998' on them, for my birth year. … I feel that life is more fun when you’re uncomfortable and when you feel nervous about something. That’s when you know you’re doing it right, because if you always feel safe, you don’t really grow.”. — Chloe Bailey, R&B artist “I was a single mom living in L.A. The year before, I had gone through a very public breakup with my boyfriend of three years, who happened to be a well-known professional athlete. His new girlfriend was a very successful model. As a result, between the three of us, the gossip mags were having a field day. “From the moment I announced I was pregnant to well after my son was born, the paparazzi relentlessly scrutinized me, documenting every pound gained, every trip to the doctor. … Having a baby should have been the most joyous time of my life, but instead I felt assaulted. It’s unnerving to be followed and stalked like that, especially during such an emotionally vulnerable time. … I became reclusive for a bit, and I barely left my house. I became wildly private. I shared little and only with a select few. “It was late summer/early fall, which tends to be the best time to shop for a New England girl living in L.A. I was on a mission for the little man and had no intention of buying something for myself. I was off to the Grove to pick something up at the Baby Gap. I must have been naive to think that I could actually get there without a tail. Maybe I did, and I was just unfortunate to run into one of the many paparazzi that hang out at the mall to capture celebrities minding their own business. Who knows, but I saw him and I tried to lose myself in the crowd. I went down one of the mall alleyways and found myself in a Barneys Co-op. I hid in there to kill some time before I abandoned my Baby Gap mission and could get back to my car. Being followed made me want to go back to the safety of my home immediately!” "I love these Aquazzura heels because they were my first adult designer purchase (a Coach mini bag I got in high school doesn't count!). I got them on major sale, but they were still more than I usually spend. To this day, I own very few items I've spent more than $300 on. They're not everyday  per se, but I actually think they're super practical because the busy embroidered print doesn't show dirt or scuffs." — Erin Fitzpatrick, fashion editor. Shop a similar style: "I know this isn't the most original answer, but the  I hold most dearly are definitely the ones I got married in last year. They're gold glitter Manolo Blahnik slingbacks that I partly decided upon because I knew I could wear them again. (They don't really scream wedding ) In spite of that, it's been over a year, and I haven't worn them again. I'm hoping I get over wanting to keep them pristine because I've worn countless outfits since then that they'd complement perfectly. I honestly haven't even gotten the box down and almost worn them. They just sit on my closet shelf when I could be wearing them regularly and thinking happy thoughts every time I look at them. Actually, I just convinced myself to start wearing them. (Thanks, Amanda!) At the very least, I will get the box down from the shelf so that they taunt me for awhile." — Allyson Payer, fashion editor. Shop a similar style: "I bought these vintage navy-blue Doc Martens on a trip to Paris when I was 20. I was there for a program through NYU writing poetry all summer. Probably the most romantic summer of my life. I picked these up in a secondhand store on my first week there and wore them to the bone until they were quite literally falling apart. I remember trying to communicate 'shoe glue' to an employee at a French hardware store one day when the sole completely fell apart on a walk through Père Lachaise Cemetery. Though these shoes remain utterly dilapidated and unwearable (a shame since Docs are back), I still have them buried in my closet, unable to part with them.  “Vintage docs from Paris are unbelievably cool to have, but these shoes mean more to me than that: They represent the first summer of my life when I felt like a confident, independent adult. I was away from my family for the longest time ever in my life until that point, in this incredibly beautiful place, with all these interesting people, studying what I wanted and dressing how I wanted. These shoes were a glimmer of what the rest of my 20s would be—sometimes a total mess and falling apart but so much cooler and weirder and more exciting than adolescence was for me.”. — Amanda Montell, features and beauty editor. April is National Letter Writing Month, a celebration of snail mail and a way “to raise awareness of the importance and historical significance of card and letter writing.” The latest #IReadIndie campaign is spotlighting books that pay tribute to the art of handwritten notes, the fascinating story of our country’s postal service, and those times when sending an email just won’t suffice.

Neither Snow Nor Rain by Devin Leonard
The United States Postal Service is a wondrous American creation. Seven days a week, its army of 300,000 letter carriers delivers 513 million pieces of mail, 40 percent of the world’s volume. It’s far more efficient than any other mail service in the world, and it has a storied history. Founded by Benjamin Franklin, it was the information network that bound far-flung Americans together, fostering a common culture. A first-class stamp remains one of the greatest bargains of all time, yet the USPS is slowly vanishing. Neither Snow Nor Rain is a rich history, full of remarkable characters, from the stamp-collecting FDR, to the revolutionaries who challenged USPS’s monopoly on mail, to the renegade union members who brought the system—and the country—to a halt in the 1970s. An exciting, engrossing read, Neither Snow Nor Rain is the first major history of the USPS in over fifty years.

January 2017
After a whirlwind of a year in 2016, including lots of workshops, community projects, commissions as well as my first print fair, I was keen to start 2017 with a clearer roadmap of where I wanted to go.
This year I’m keen to produce a lot more personal work, learn new techniques, collaborate, and work on projects close to my heart.
The big news from January is that I was awarded the Eirian Llwyd Memorial Prize by Arts Council Wales for a Welsh print-maker. I am over the moon to be given this award!
Tumblr media
Eirian Llwyd was a distinguished print maker but also somebody who worked hard to better things in her community, especially through her work establishing women’s refuge centres. I hope to embody some of that community mindedness in my future printmaking projects.
2017 is shaping up to be another adventure of a year and this award equips me well for it!
I intend to use it to explore food stories and memories in North Wales and beyond, collaborating with groups of all sorts of people to document their personal traditions around food and to capture the ways in which this shapes our national identity.
I am a real geek when it comes to food with an extensive collection of vintage cookbooks, especially from Eastern Europe and so inspired by this, and keen to learn more about all kinds of ingredients and to commit to regularly publishing personal work I have started a new project, Saturday Kitchen, whereby I will be illustrating one ingredient a week which is new and/or a staple in my kitchen.
January’s ingredients were Black Garlic, Dill, Ginger and Asian Pear.
Tumblr media
You can follow the project over on my Instagram page  https://www.instagram.com/rhimoxon/ and as the ingredients build up I will be creating a new Instagram dedicated to them.
I’ve also been busy this month getting my website ready and I’m pleased to say that it is now live at www.rhimoxon.com. It includes lots of new work, commissions and community projects. I’ll be publishing photos of prints and textiles work very soon and launching my Etsy shop in early Spring.
Tumblr media
Tuesday nights have become my printing night, and this month I have been continuing with my Castles and Palaces series. Inspired by European architecture, folk art, and journeys in Romania and Ukraine I’ve been having fun creating grid based screen prints with lots of blues and textures.
Tumblr media
January saw me complete 2 a3 castles in 4 colours each, and I’m looking forward to continuing in this style and creating bigger and more ambitious castles throughout the year for this ongoing series.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ve also been working on the identity and design of a set of Poetry Boxes that are going to be installed in and around Wrexham town in the coming months. I’ve been working with a local woodshop to come up with the shapes of boxes and I am currently busy planning out designs for the front of each one. Through this project, I have had the pleasure of joining a wood carving group and trying my hand at chip carving, which is proving to be harder than it looks!
Tumblr media
So in all, it’s been a brilliant start of the year with lots of elements falling in to place to allow me to pursue projects that will challenge me creatively and develop as a graphic artist in 2017.
February is already shaping up to be an exciting month with some commissions and printing workshops already in the mix, as well as a food adventure around Southern Spain which I will be embarking on at the end of the month.. Watch this space!

Designer Trees Bruce McLean
Silkscreen print with collaged elements Edition size: 100 Image size: 790 x 583mm Paper size: 943 x 748mm Published: 2011 BUY HERE
Two black Trees combines dynamic geometric shapes suggestive of architectural forms and with tree-silhouettes. Though effectively abstract, McLean’s palette and inclusion of a segment from a London street map perfectly capture the atmosphere of a sunny day in a London park.  The urban atmosphere is increased by the inclusion of graffiti –like text. Companion piece to Pink Moda.

Encounter Danny Rolph
Silkscreen print with glazes Edition size: 15 Image size: 700 x 985mm Paper size: 725 x 1010mm Published: 2017 BUY HERE
Usually finding inspiration in philosophy, poetry and history, Rolph wanted to produce a print that related to his current interests in the studio. Having only produced one silkscreen edition before, Rolph saw creating this edition as an opportunity to allow him time to investigate the process further, which he found informative and exhilarating in equal measure. ‘Encounter’ will shortly be followed by another silkscreen edition. “Recently I swam in the Indian Ocean and encountered colours, animals and geology I had only previously seen on TV. The experience of being in such a stimulating, other worldly environment influenced my choices quite strikingly in ‘Encounter’. The objective in using these particular shapes, forms and colours was to communicate the experience I had in nature and to expand my visual vocabulary in a new direction.” - Danny Rolph

This is the Big City Baby Dan Baldwin
Silkscreen print with gold leaf, diamond dust and glazes Edition size: 100 Image size: 800 x 400mm Paper size: 950 x 560mm Published: 2014 BUY HERE
This piece was created in collaboration with Allison Mosshart (lead singer of The Kills). "Allison Mosshart, lead singer of the band The Kills, wrote a piece called ‘THIS IS THE BIG CITY BABY’ when sitting with Jack White from the White Stripes, they had been sitting in New York by the wishing well fountain, and the events of that day prompted the written piece. It was then given to a project SFWAM - (Songs For Words and Music) which is a charity based literacy project with Jeff Antebi Waxspolitation records, pairing artists with musicians - Tom Waites, Nick Cave and many more. Allison had been hanging on for several years waiting for the right artist to illustrate her piece, my image was inspired by her writing - the cats and freaks come out at night whilst the city sleeps, as the clock strikes 12am some magic occurs. It’s quite a specific illustrative piece as it was a specific image for a project." - Dan Baldwin.

Faith, Hope and Charity Peter Blake Silkscreen print Edition size: 125 Image size: 990 x 547mm Paper size: 990 x 547mm Published: 2012 BUY HERE
Faith, Hope and Charity is a nostalgic triptych of segments made up from collaged elements of Victorian postcards. This delicate and feminine work illustrates the three Christian virtues mentioned in Paul’s first epistle to the Corinthians. This work is about sentiment and the power of words.  It continues the exploration of this power, these eternal themes, that Blake examined in his recent ‘I Love You’ and ‘Hope’ prints. Using floral motifs on postcards was very popular in the Victorian era; here Blake has re-arranged these ornamentations to suit his own aesthetic vision. Cherub heads and child-figures playing musical instruments feature in the ‘Faith’ section; echoing the themes of childhood innocence and joy that recur throughout Blake’s work. The rectangular panel at the peak of the cross is taken from a work by Sir Joshua Reynolds ‘A Cherub Head in Different Views’ 1787.  Each panel includes the design of a hand holding a messages ‘Remember Me, Forget Me Not and A Tribute of Love’ that would have been the centre-piece of the original postcards from which they are extracted.

Philip Morris Peter Blake
Silkscreen print with silver leaf Edition size: 175 Image size: 760 x 1015mm Paper size: 760 x 1015mm Published: 2007 BUY HERE
One of Peter Blake's found art cigarette packets or fag packets as they have come to be affectionately known. This series demonstrates Blake's belief that beauty can be found anywhere, even in objects that most would believe to be rubbish. The fag packets highlight iconic 20th century design and branding, a key component in the pop art movement. The simplicity of these pieces adds to their wallpower.
Tumblr media
Milk Maids Peter Blake
Silkscreen print Edition size: 175 Image size: 455 x 660mm Paper size: 595 x 820mm Published: 2009 BUY HERE
Milk Maids is part 11 of the 12 pieces that comprise Peter Blake's portfolio box set, based on his work in the early 60's. The bright colours, bold patterns and simplistic compositions of pop art are heavily present, as are 60's pop culture icons such as Marilyn Monroe as seen here, Kim Novak, Lavern Baker and Billy Rainbow. The paper border has CCA's publisher stamp embossed in bottom right hand corner (not shown).

Dark Side of the Moon 30th Anniversary Storm Thorgerson
Silkscreen print Edition size: 325 Image size: 480 x 480mm Paper size: 835 x 660mm Published: 2004 BUY HERE
Storm decided to rework his iconic album cover for the re-release of Pink Floyd's album, he says 'Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon was remixed from original tapes in 5.1 surround sound or super audio to provide an even more detailed and splendid audio experience. It was the same music but not the same mix. A different beast, in effect, and it seemed appropriate to indicate as much on the cover by reworking the original design, which was an airbrush illustration with line work for tint lay.'

Peter Blake celebrated his 80th birthday in 2012, the year was peppered with projects and events to celebrate the occasion. In Spring Blake unveiled a variation of his magic crowd composition: Vintage Blake: Peter Blake’s 80th Family Friends and Icons that was created especially for the celebrations around his birthday. Sea Rock Louise Cattrell
Silkscreen print Edition size: 20 Image size: 815 x 655mm Paper size: 815 x 655mm Published: 2017 BUY HERE
"The opportunity to make a large scale screen print made me evaluate many of the ways in which print evolves from the process and how that responds to the way I make paintings. Printmaking has always been a part of how I develop work fusing drawing, tone and colour. My work is inspired by the natural landscape, in particular where the boundaries of sea, sky and land come together and depart. I make the paintings using thin layers of paint akin to watercolour in substance; using the transparencies of the screen printing film was a new way of building an image. Using early examples as a base, the context was developed through the application of watercolour as the ability of the movement in the paint responded to the ideas behind Sea Rock - where a rock within sight of the shore becomes a landmark and guide for those on both land and sea. Encompassed by all that the change of light and weather does to transform the known into the mysterious."
Tumblr media
To the Lighthouse, Ile de Re Lucy Farley
Silkscreen print Edition size: 100
Image size: 1070 x 800mm Paper size: 1270 x 1020mm Published: 2013 BUY HERE
To the Lighthouse, Ile de Ré showcases Farley’s fresh and dynamic take on nature, landscape and the spirit of place. Romantic and windswept, Farley’s sweeping lines and washes of colour draw the viewer into this coastal scene of lighthouse, boats, ominous sky and swelling water. She combines a tremendous sense of atmosphere with a modernity and minimalism that reflects her personal connection with the landscape. The title of this piece reminds us of the novel of the same name by Virginia Woolf, and indeed the flow of line and colour is reminiscent of Woolf's stream-of-consciousness style of writing.
Tumblr media
Beachscape Wester Ross Donald Hamilton Fraser Silkscreen print Edition size: 175 Image size: 453 x 560mm Paper size: 605 x 725mm Published: 2006
BUY HERE
Beachscape Wester Ross by Donald Hamilton Fraser. Fraser's dramatic use of colour lends the landscape an almost surrealistic air. The marks of his palette-knife technique can be clearly seen in the foreground, lending real texture to the picture surface. The bright swathes of colour are not blended together, but stand in stark contrast and create a feeling of joy and vivacity that dominates the work.

World renowned as an equestrian sculptor, Nic Fiddian-Green's Horse at Water limited edition silkscreen print is an edition size of 50 and demonstrates the dramatic elegance of his iconic horse's head. Whilst studying at Chelsea School of Art, Fiddian-Green took a trip to the British Museum and found inspiration in the shape of the head of the horse of Selene. 'The encounter paved my future. It was as if lightning had struck twice in the same place. The horse's head was so beautifully made, so considered, so right. It was as if it had been carved by the gods: a lesson in balance and harmony and proportion. Immediately it became my benchmark. For the past 30 years I've focused on capturing the beauty of a horse's head.'
