It finally feels like summer here in the UK as we’re welcoming the hottest days of the year so far! In the spirit of all things warm and sunny, here’s Sir Terry Frost’s ‘Carlyon Sunshine’, which seems to burst with solar energy. Here Frost combines simple shapes with block colour to create a joyful and dynamic image that conveys happiness and vibrancy. In addition to the screen printed inks, this piece contains 8 collages elements, giving it a feeling of greater depth. A signed and numbered limited edition silkscreen with collage, ‘Carlyon Sunshine' was made in the final year of the artist’s life. The simplistic, hand drawn image created by Israeli artist @guy_yanai for his limited edition lithograph ‘Tree’ is based on the tree that features in Italian Renaissance painter’s Fra Angelico's work ‘Noli Me Tangere’, something Yanai has been fascinated with for many years. Guy Yanai is recognised for his simplified shapes, vibrant colours, flattened depth of field, and curiously common subject matter. Often painting in geometric blocks, akin to the pixelated screens and over-digitalisation of the twenty-first century, his oversimplified representations compress the gigabytes of data we perceive and receive on a daily basis. In almost direct contrast with this, ‘Tree’ is much more organic, simplified but still reliant on the heavily linear style that defines his work. A well-received artist, Yanai has had numerous solo and group exhibitions worldwide. He currently lives and works in Tel Aviv. Published by CCA in an edition of just 25, ‘Tree’ is signed and numbered by the artist and available to buy for £375 from the CCA website, link in bio. #guyyanai #lithography #worksonpaper #art #printmaking #contemporaryart #picoftheday #instaart #instadaily #screenprinting #artwork #cca #ccagalleries #wortonhallstudios #silkscreenprint #originalprint #paper #forsale #artforsale #thecurwenstudio https://www.instagram.com/p/CK3vqphFUVt/?igshid=189qwbruyx6vx

‘Big Blue Bombom’ is our latest publication with artist Lucie Bennett. Following the success of ‘Big Pink Bum’ released earlier this year, Lucie continues her series featuring large-scale derrières with this new silkscreen edition of just 15, which sees a blue-turquoise line beautifully paired with a vanilla ice-cream inspired backdrop. She says: “In countries such as Brazil, the bum is very much an object of admiration; the big bum is fêted, as seen most noticeably on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro, and I thought it would be fun to reference this in the title”.

A special release;
Bed Springs by Mona Hatoum.
"The artist has decided to lower the price of her print in order to raise much needed funds for the NHS in the current health crisis”
We are now selling this unique work for £1000
Bed Springs (blue) signed limited edition lithograph print by Mona Hatoum made especially for the NHS 70th Anniversary Portfolio. Lithograph on 400gsm Somerset tub. "As an artist who often uses furniture and everyday objects in my work, for this print project I felt it appropriate to make a specific reference to beds. The image is created using bed springs that have been removed from the confinement of the metal bed frame and placed on a sheet of paper. I then sprayed over the springs with a spray can to create a negative image to achieve a photogram or an X-ray-like image. For the final lithographic print, I decided to use blue ink in order for it to resemble a photographic cyanotype print. I was very happy to be invited to contribute to this print project to support the NHS, such a neccessary and worthy service." - Mona Hatoum © Mona Hatoum. Courtesy Worton Hall Studios
"The 70th anniversary is an opportunity to appreciate the vital role the NHS plays in people's lives, and to recognise and thank the extraordinary NHS staff who are there to guide, support and provide care, day in, day out. We hope that this portfolio is a fitting tribute, and the funds raised continue to support the incredible work of the service for years to come." - Imperial Health Charity

Presenting Arctic Glacier new silkscreen edition by Barbara Rae RA made at Worton Hall Studios.
Now available for sale via the CCA Galleries website or by contacting the office.
Each one is hand printed and created by the artist.
Barbara’s unique marks and textures and brush strokes are applied directly to the true grain and transferred to the screens, together with application of numerous layers of colour through transparent, opaque and metallic inks has created images which transport the viewer into the very depths of this arctic landscape.
As Barbara writes;
Commencing in 2015, I undertook four voyages following the route of the fabled North West Passage. The search for the elusive route to the east took many lives and was an obsession by countries eager to be first to form a new trade route to eastern markets. I followed the desired route of the English explorer, John Franklin whose futile and ill prepared expedition ended in the loss of all lives. My namesake, Dr John Rae, was sent out to find what fate befell them. That was the motivation for my travels. I was fascinated by this immense, desolate landscape, the home of the Inuit, and the thought of these English seamen, completely unaware of their chances of survival in this harsh, alien environment. These majestic immense glaciers and icebergs in their quiet, silent world were compelling dramatic presences which in my mind contained the history of the futile struggle to tame the Arctic. Barbara Rae 2020

We are delighted to present 'Turkish Eye (blue and turquoise)' a silkscreen print by pioneering artist Gavin Turk. CCA Galleries and Worton Hall Studios were delighted to be joined by Turk over the bank holiday weekend at the London Original Print Fair 2018, where he produced the edition in a stimulating live printmaking demonstration at the fair's own Printmaking Festival.
A play on his own name, the print features the Nazar Boncuğu or 'turkish eye', widely displayed in homes, shops and businesses across Turkey to ward off evil and provide protection to the wearer in all aspects of their life. A prevalent part of Turkish culture, the turkish eye is believed to possess magic powers to protect you or bring you good luck. Nazar are often given as gifts to friends who have just had a baby, or moved into a new house, though sometimes they are given to foreigners as protection during their stay in Turkey. The Nazar symbol can also be traced back to the Ancient Egyptians, where the Eye of Horus was a symbol of protection, royal power and good health. It is said that when an evil eye cracks, it has done its job of protecting you. Reflecting the magical powers of the turkish eye, this print is available in an edition size of 29 prints, a primary number and considered magic in many cultures.

McLean's fascination with flora and fauna is inspired by his wife's gardens in London and Menorca and has long been a central theme in his prints and paintings. Drawing particular inspiration from the dark shadows and flickering light created as the sun moves around, these artworks are directly related to paintings originally created 10 years ago which developed into the 'Son Caragol' series. Through mark making and layering motifs, McLean builds up depth and injects a bold and bright palette to recreate this lush, flickering environment.

NEW RELEASES: Paul Huxley
CCA GALLERIES is delighted to introduce world renowned artist PAUL HUXLEY and present 3 brand new limited edition silkscreen prints PROTEUS, ANIMA and ANIMUS.
Anima Silkscreen print with glazes and embossing Edition size: 50 Image size: 690 x 690mm Paper size: 840 x 850mm BUY HERE
Acknowledged globally for his large scale bold and dynamic paintings, Huxley’s abstract work explores implied perspectives, combining stretched and distorted ellipses and shapes with flat blocks of colour and linear patterns to create dynamic illusions. He invites the viewer to unpick the paintings and consider why such elements have been considerately placed together.
Proteus
Silkscreen print with glazes and embossing Edition size: 50 Image size: 690 x 690mm Paper size: 840 x 850mm BUY HERE
Born in London in 1938, Huxley attended Harrow School of Art from 1951 – 1956 before enrolling into Royal Academy Schools at the age of 17. After extensive teaching experience he was appointed Professor of Painting at the Royal College of Art in 1986 where many now established artists such as Dino Chapman, Nigel Cook, Dexter Dalwood, Andrew Grassie, Tracey Emin, Chantal Joffe and Chris Ofili were his students. Upon finishing teaching in 1998 Huxley was elected Honorary Fellow and Professor Emeritus. He lives in West London, sharing the same complex of studios with Peter Blake and Ben Johnson.

Having grown up with the influence of American culture, a significant turning point for the artist was in 1964 when he won a Peter Stuyvesant Travel Award which saw him travelling to America. Spurred on by the excitement of experiencing the reality of life in the New World, he was introduced to many of the leading American artists of the period including Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman, Robert Motherwell, Helen Frankenthaler, Lee Krasner and Jasper Johns, visiting their studios and forming lifelong friendships with some. In 1965 he was awarded the Harkness Fellowship which took him to New York, funding a two years residency and resulting in his first solo show there. He rented a 100ft x 25ft loft which enabled him to realise his ambitions of scaling up his paintings and developing his shapes and compositions. By deconstructing the traditional monocentric format of American abstract paintings of the time, he created his initial studies for his so-called ‘key series’ works, which were seminal to the development of the divided canvases that have characterised his work ever since.
Huxley has spent the last 5 decades exhibiting in group and solo exhibitions all over the world. Some of his most iconic commissions include sets and costumes for the Rambert Dance Company (1991), wall drawings for the entrances to Pallant House Gallery, Chichester (2001) and Charing Cross Hospital, London (2011) and a room in the Azerbaijan International Pavilion for the Venice Biiennale (2015). His most recent solo exhibitions have been in the David Richard Gallery, Santa Fé, New Mexico and the Mark Rothko Art Centre in Daugavpils, Latvia.
