"THE FULL SKIRT GIVES THE DRESS A FLOATY AND PLAYFUL NATURE, WHILE THE DROPPED WAIST..."
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on classic film actress Audrey Hepburn in the Givenchy wedding dress that her character Jo Stockton wore in the 1957 romantic comedy/musical "Funny Face." The dress is a white ballerina-length wedding gown featuring a full skirt, a dropped waist, and a tight bodice.
"Who better to take fashion inspiration from than the icon herself, Audrey Hepburn? She looks playful, yet elegant and refined in this Givenchy ballerina length dress.
Although Jo Stockton (Audrey Hepburn) was a heartbroken model when she first put on the Givenchy short tulle wedding dress in "Funny Face" (1957), her happy ending came in style as she wore the dress while dancing with Fred Astaire.
The full skirt gives the dress a floaty and playful nature, while the dropped waist really shows off a petit waist. The bodice is topped off with a Sabrina neckline, also known as a boat or bateau neckline. Givenchy often chose this neckline for Hepburn specifically as it showed off her prominent collar bones."

My Fair Lady opened at the Mark Hellinger Theater on March 15, 1956. It was an immediate smash. "A triumph" said the Post's Richard Watts. "Miraculous," proclaimed the Herald Tribune's Walter Kerr. "It has everything," said William Hawkins in the World-Telegram. Robert Coleman of the Daily Mirror called it "a masterpiece of musical comedy legerdemain." The Daily News's John Chapman wrote that it was the first musical since Guys and Dolls in which all the theatrical elements had been "blended so artfully and so enjoyably." Kerr also noted that when Julie Andrews, Rex Harrison, and Robert Coote let go in "The Rain in Spain," there was "no controlling the joy in the theater."
The show ran for a then-unprecedented 2,717 performances. Above, Julie Andrews as Eliza Doolittle in the opening scene.

does anyone have like an anti aesthetic. like something you look at and can recognize as a complete fashion/interior design/artistic movement and understand it but it makes you shudder seeing it. i am not talking like “its morally bad” “its poorly structured” like just sheerly devoid of joy for you actually invites a repulse response.

NO AUDREY LIKE "BEATNIK AUDREY" -- ALL THE RIGHT MOVES AND ALL THAT JAZZ.
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on the late, great Audrey Hepburn (as Jo Stockton) donning her "Basal Metabolism dance sequence" outfit, a.k.a., "Beatnik Audrey," for promotional photos of the 1957 Paramount production "Funny Face," Paris, France, c. 1956.
"...the "Funny Face" outfit that really cemented Hepburn’s fashion muse status was far simpler: black cigarette pants, flats, and a black polo neck so widely imitated it actually warrants that overused word, iconic.  “Banish the black!” editrix Prescott decreed in the film. Thanks to Audrey and her polo neck, nobody listened to her."

I know a lot is going on in the world right now but this kind of loss of art is breaking my heart in two.
Tumblr media
The Valentino’s Costume Group in Hollywood has lost everything after the death of their co-founder, the pandemic, strikes, etc. and is now being forced to do a very quick liquidation sale before having to send all of their years of hard work to be turned into rags. (Yes this is a real thing)
These people have crafted thousands of costumes over 20 years to rent to everyone and anyone who needed one. They’re sex worker and queer friendly. They’re also being accused of being “fast fashion” while being one of the few places in this world actively working against fast fashion with their work. They don’t want to have to turn their hard work into rags. It’s the only option for them with the enormous amount of costumes/fabrics they have to remove from the building very quickly.
So, Californians and anyone willing to travel to Hollywood: YOU can save a costume! (or two?) YOU can save someone’s art from being destroyed! YOU can own pieces of Hollywood! YOU can save so much sewing supplies and fabrics!
Where: 5535 CAHUENGA BLVD, N. HOLLYWOOD
Phone: 818-427-5248
Special hours for Influencers: May 20-30th 9:30am-4:30pm MON-SUN
What: Vintage, designer, menswear, historical, specialty, children’s, shoes, jewelry, vintage hats, show packages, racks, fabric, etc!
Important note: Please be kind and patient with the folks managing this sale. There’s maybe 2-3 people working at the most, and they all just suffered the death of someone close to them and the loss of their dream.
Please, please signal boost this. Their hard work should not go to waste and this terrible loss is already hard enough on them.

Because polls get the most engagement I’m making a poll lol
(For the sake of this poll: a collector is anyone who *currently has* a collection of things either physically or digitally that they intentionally acquired which can be grouped together)
Please please please please pleeeeeeeaaaaaaase tell me what you collect and optionally why!!!! (This is doubly true if your collection is related to a regulatory/“special” interest!!!!!!! That’s honestly the only reason I’m making this poll, I am begging youuuuuuuuuuu
Neurodivergent related tags are for reach as I know a lot of neurodiverse people are collectors. I do try my best not to clutter those tags, if anyone has an issue with it please tell me and I’ll remove them
