I wrote this a while ago and I just found this in my notes app, unfinished and now I decided to finish it. It's all sfw!!! I hope you guys like it:3
Eris x Reader
When did I learn to write like the average Wattpad fanfiction writer wtf (looking back at it, it's nothing like that😭)
That's it. Everything is over now. You've everything. The last thing you've felt is someone, possibly a pillager dragging you out of your hiding place, that was under the bed in a small house. You failed to protect your village and was defeated by the illagers. Now, all your friends, belongings, and even your life might be taken away. As you're being dragged by your hand through a field, mud and dirt get into your wounds. You can also hear several illagers and witches still celebrating their victory. You can hear the cries of children, and the cruel laughs of the illagers, as they prepare themselves to leave, and take what now belongs to them back to the mansion and outposts.
When you wake up, you find yourself in a cell. You can barely see anything, you can only feel how cold and hard the rough, dirty cobblestone floor is. Some illagers' voice gets to you from afar. They seem to be arguing about something. Next thing you know is the rusty iron door that the cell is sealed with opens, and a tall, balding vindicator yanks you out of the cell. You groan in pain as you fall on the dusty, yellowish birch wood floor, right in front of the feet of the vindicator leader's son, but you don't know it yet, the only thing you know is that you're not dead yet, and you're grateful for that.
- I'll take care of it then. This will have good use... There's always something to do around here, isn't there, Mr? - the vindicator then looks at the evoker that he was previously talking to, only to see that he no longer seems to be interested.
- Just take it Mr. I don't need your reasoning. I know what your desires are with it... To torture and kill, that's all you're good for. Now go, bring this pathetic human out of my way. And call the guard back.- the evoker demanded, then walked around the other cells to inspect the villager children. He was hoping they're just asleep or unconscious, and not dead from starvation, horrible treatment or fear.
You felt the vindicator's strong arms picking your weak body up from the floor, and carrying you like nothing. Unlike most vindicators, he was way more gentle, less clumsy, and didn't grunt as much. He carried you upstairs to the 2nd floor, where his room was. You were barely conscious as he put you down on his soft, wool bed, then covered you with the thick, red wool blanket. The mansion was colder than any structures you've been in before (aside from the ocean temple), your teeth started clattering unwantedly.
- You'll get used to it. - he said... Or was the vindicator really a "he"? His voice sounded way more womaly now, while just minutes ago, he spoke to an evoker with a deep, male voice. You almost ended up thinking about it, but your head was hurting like crazy, just like every single part of your body, so your main focus was now on trying to distract yourself from the pain. Your eyes were squeezed shut, and your whole face and body was stricky from blood and dirt. You felt disgusting, and the dry substances made your skin irritated, but you were so weak and wounded you couldn't even open your eyes.
- You though ya' could just defeat us? - you felt the bed move a little. Seems like the vindicator sat down next to you.
- You'll need way more power for that! And a bit more... Bravery... And cruelty... Ya' won't be a fighter till you don't know when to spare and when to kill. You're just a weak lady messing with my nation! But in the end, I have a little slave in exchange for walking a few miles and killing some helpless people... - you suddenly felt cold hands brushing over your bruised cheeks. You whined in pain as you gathered all your strength to pull away. Maybe you're going to die if you dare to resist the vindicator. You were almost 100% sure the vindicator you were so afraid of is a lady. Her voice, even though it was deep and harsh, it sounded a bit more feminine. The vindicator lady laughed at your pathetic attempt of trying to get away from her touch, and gently slapped your cheek, to which you teared up. She was strong judging by just the way she picked you up so effortlessly, and by the way her slaps hurt, even though she clearly didn't put any strength into it.
Then, you decided to slowly open your eyes to look around. In the dimly lit, spacious room you could see a table with some gray thing and a flower pot with no flower inside it. Your vision was still recovering and you were still not completely in a good state. It was maybe early evening? you thought.
- You finally woke up? - the vindicator lady asked, although it was obvious. You glanced over at her, only to face her looking at you with her cold, dark blue eyes. "Why doesn't she kill me?... Did she like... Is she stupid?" you wondered, but at the same time you were grateful for still being able to live. You kept eye contact with her for a few seconds, then when you couldn't endure her starte for longer, you looked away. While you could though, you took a look at her face and clothes as well. Her skin was pale gray, with not a single spot or imperfection on it. "Must be makeup." and you were right, it was make-up. Although she didn't look girly at all.
(finishing it rn because this is an absolutely diabolical ending)
She looked nothing like the women you saw back in your hometown... Probably because she was an illager, so it was a bit of a culture shock for you. Were all of them like this? You couldn't decide.
You watched the vindicator lady as she stood up, then walked to what you figured was a chest... There were almost no lights in the mansion, except for the hallways... And it was way too dark for your eyes to get used to it. So you could barely see anything. There was only a torch in the room serving as a ligh source, but it was at the door so it was basically good for nothing. You could see the vindicator's figure slowly getting closer to you with what seemed like some strange potion and some bandages in her hand. She sat down on the bed, then firmly took your hand... It wasn't pleasant. Neither was the substance she poured all over your hand. It stung and burnt but only for a few seconds... Before the sensation completely disappeared and for some reason, your hand wasn't hurting anymore.
- It's a healing potion - The vindicator said like this was some kind of basic knowledge that everyone knew, her tone was grumpy and annoyed... Like all illagers'. Though you've had some experience with potion brewing, you never actually cared about it, or memorized their names even though it wasn't hard. You nodded weakly. Then you felt her grab your other arm... And then your legs... Your torso too... And finally, your face. She poured the last few drops on a piece of cloth, and grabbed some of your hair with one hand, while she pressed the cloth against your bruised face multiple times, until all the wounds were gone. You felt exhausted and hungry, since your body had to heal so fast. You looked up at her as she let go of your hair, letting your head fall back onto the mattress. She wasn't necessarily bad looking she was just... She looked like an illager woman. Thick brows... Shit ton of makeup, which only caught your eyes because you've never seen anyone with this much makeup before... The villagers didn't wear any... Guess it's another illager thing that you found a bit strange.
Then without any explanation, she picked you up, then put you down on the bed again, this time more gentle.
- Rest, human. - She said as she patted your freshly healed shoulder, then she left the room. You looked at the bandages on the table, wondering what the hell she needed them for. She probably put them here by accident... She looked exhausted too. Not even exhausted... Like seriously sleep deprived. And now you "took" her bed. Even if it wasn't your fault, you felt a bit guilty for her. Since it was late at night, you tried to fall asleep, but could hardly do it since it was cold and you felt uneasy being surrounded by all these deadly creatures.
After a while, the vindicator came back. She was holding a plate with leftover food on it. She kneeled down in front you, then took a piece of food and offered it to you. It was some gross looking meat... But you still ate it. You were hungry after all. Something about this vindicator felt off yet comforting at the same time... How a creature this brutal could care for her mortal enemy this gently... That fascinated you.
She put the empty plate on the table, then she touched your face again
- You're cold aren't you? - *She asked, even though the answer was obvious. Humans aren't used to these conditions, and the illager woman knew that. She took her coat off, you saw that she's wearing multiple layers underneath, a black waistcoat and a red shirt, and probably some bottom layers as well. And she looked strong... You've never seen a woman this muscular before. She then unexpectedly laid down next to you, pulled the blanket over herself and you too, then cuddled you tightly. She didn't smell like she's showered in the past few days, but her warmth was comforting. You were a bit shocked by the gesture though, unaware that this was a completely normal everyday thing for illagers to prevent each other from freezing to death at night. Not even a minute later, she was asleep, snoring loudly, which made it hard for you to relax. Eventually, you were so tired that you were unbothered by all that, and you too, after some struggles, fell asleep.
The next day, you couldn't find the vindicator lady, only a note on the table. You could hardly read it since she didn't really know how to write. You were familiar with their runes, you learnt it from the villagers already.
"I won't be coming back until late evening. Don't leave the room. You could get yourself in danger"
You just nodded to yourself, too scared to leave the room anyways... You spent your whole day reading the books on her bookshelf, and drawing on some scrap paper... You finally heard the door open, and you were convinced it was the vindicator lady. However, she had some company with her... An old evoker, and another vindicator.* There they are. *She said, her voice was cold. You couldn't react as it happened all too fast. You were grabbed by the other vindicator, then before you could say anything, he knocked you out by slamming your head onto the desk.
That's when it all clicked... You're nothing to them... Just another experiment.
I hope you guys liked what you read :3333 i could write more stuff like this, both illager au and canon lore

Isidorus Hispalensis – Etymologiae, Liber IV, Caput XIII, 5
Medicina secunda Philosophia dicitur.

As someone from Holland (Rotterdam) I can say that having beef with us is incredibly fair. We deserve it. Prinsjesdag is quite Dutch I think yea. Koningsdag too, I'm pretty sure. I remember people on youtube being quite confused about the fleemarkets and little kids playing instruments (god that was AWFUL so glad I only did that like twice and then i quit the violin lmao)
Als het nog wat warmer wordt deze maand kan het altijd 💀 There is always time for a bbq.
ROTTERDAM. You’re kidding. That’s HOLLAND Holland. The beef is largely one-sided I believe but the majority of it is largely because of 1) the stereotype that we’re all uneducated rural dick, 2) the idea that our language, accents, and dialects are ugly (they’re not), and 3) the people from Holland who move to the countryside under the assumption that it’s ‘peaceful’ and ‘clean’ and then complain about tractors and farmers spreading manure over the fields. Tbf the latter are usually boomers though, so it makes sense that they’re nagging about normal rural things.
Koningsdag is an experience and I actually figured that different kingdoms also did similar stuff on their monarch’s ‘birthday’. Though I suppose that the orange can be rather… well. Disorienting lmao

Here where I live in the Netherlands we have this really infamous student association called 'Vindicat'. They are known for their stupidity (despite going to some of the best schools around here), their disregard for any rules and of course... their really cruel , inhumane and dangerous initiations when a new member wants to join.
Anyway, guess what they did this time? That's right, in the middle of a pandemic host a huge party.
I shouldn't have to tell anyone why that is a phenomenally bad idea.
But Vindicat is made up out of selfish bullies who don't care about anyone or anything but themselves. And they want to party, so they will party and bring themselves and their families in danger. :S

I don't think you're getting me. I am saying that it is NOT tautological. Ned's explanation to Bran seems tautological, because he's expressing it in the simplest terms for a child, getting his first in-person experience of the concept of the death penalty. But it is not the death penalty that makes the deserters dangerous. Their desertion is a symptom of their abandonment of the social contract, the rules and boundaries that let people interact with one another in safety. He has abandoned his position as a protector of the realms of men, of ALL men, not simply exchanging one master or liege for another, or leaving service altogether, it's the ultimate betrayal of mankind, short of actually signing up with the Others.
And lets not forget, that this is more than just a question of malum prohibitum in the case of Gared, who has actually broken. Gared's mind is shot, not because of anything society has done to him, but because of what he encountered in his service to the Night's Watch. He is the ultimate broken man of Merribald's account, reduced to little more than a beast, and furthermore, someone who knows, possibly the only living man who does know, exactly how important the vows he swore and the institution to which he pledged his life, are. And he failed at the first hurdle.
I am not judging Gared for this. Everyone has their limits, and his encounter with the Others took Gared beyond his own. But Will and Waymar, stayed and did their duty to the best of their abilities, each of them having his own limits. Gared has been through considerable adversity, and you can never tell how much and to what degree adversity strengthens one, or contributes cumulatively to bringing one to that breaking point. During their ranging, Will seems to think that Gared's experiences had done the former, making him a stronger and more formidable man than Waymar. But the young and callow Waymar stood his ground and did his duty, where even Will froze up at first. Will kept going and tried to overcome his initial fear, and continue with the mission. And Gared broke and ran. He did not return to Castle Black to report what he had seen, to warn his sworn brothers. Instead he went far out of his way to avoid them, to be derelict in his duty at every moment up until the end, at which point his own condition and prior behavior had destroyed his credibility. By any reasonable standard, he is beyond recovery.
Maybe, with modern medicine and psychological understanding, Gared could be helped, treated and brought back to himself. But Westeros has neither the resources nor the knowledge to help him. And, as mentioned in the previous post, he is a danger to anyone he might encounter. Sure, maybe he could be kept imprisoned for the safety of those around him, but that's easy to say in a modern world with no real scarcity of food. In a land where winter lasts for years, and men commit suicide by exposure to stretch the food supply for their families, just keeping Gared alive, no matter how restrained from active harm, is still a threat to society. This is what people mean when they talk about the harshness of the North (suggesting as well that the side-eye Wyman Manderly gets for his girth is more than simple fat-shaming).
I did not omit the end of the broken man speech because it weakened my point, but because it was irrelevant. Pity is something in your heart. Pity for the broken men is a thing to which Merribald is compelled by his own vows and vocation, and a luxury Brienne & Hyle can indulge in, with their horses, armor and castle-forged weaponry, hence Merribald's words to them. It's something Ned could possibly indulge in, but to what point? It's a rough world and there's no place in it for someone like that, because the other people have their own struggles with that world. Maybe it's not fair to Gared, but death never is.
And honestly, how can you rebuke Ned or imply that he needs more. He does pity Gared. He vindicated that final measure of courage Gared was able to muster in facing his end, when discussing the incident with his son. Do you really think Catelyn found him in his place of spiritual exercise, because he needed to perform maintenance on his indestructible sword? Ned spends the rest of the book exhibiting his own signs of PTSD. His takeaway from the Gared case, and recent others like it, is to plan to muster his vassals and troops and go to war to lighten the burden on the Night's Watch.
Of all the people in Westeros to single out for the need to show pity, Ned is probably the worst case in the books. Pity, mercy and compassion, above and beyond what his society, not just the aristocracy or authority figures, but the whole society, thinks is appropriate dominate his motives and choice throughout the rest of the book. No one gives more pity or more compassion than Ned, but he is as human as the rest of the characters, and just as there are limits to the courage a man can perform, so too, mercy. To fault Ned for not bending over backwards for Gared, is like faulting Merribald or the leader of the Quiet Isle for their failures to exact justice within their spheres of influence and activity (hiding any child murderers are we?). Hell, the conversation between those latter two shows that even in Westeros, there are mechanisms to forgive and grant mercy to people who fail in their roles and allow or cause harm. But those are not Ned's job. Ned's job is justice and mercy and he does better than most, and the Starklings are going to save the realm because they were raised by him, not in spite of it.
And regarding the question of applying the death penalty to desertion, it wouldn't work. By the very nature of the vows, and even the Watch's role in society, leaving the Nights Watch must be a death sentence. First of all, there is the practical matter. This is line of defense against the monsters who will come for everyone. It's arguably the most important job in the world, and you simply can't have everyone fucking off when the going gets tough. Then there is the meaning of the words. For whatever reason, the people who established the Night's Watch, close on the heels of surviving the last attack of the Others, felt it required a devotion unto death, and forsaking one's own life to preserve that of the rest of the realm. What good are those oaths and commitments, if you can simply walk away from them and receive no more than a slap on the wrist? How DO you deal with men who did this? How do you tell the difference between the Gareds and the Chetts and when you get right down to it, what practical difference is there between the one man's insanity and the other's selfishness? They have become predators, who swore to be sheepdogs.
Then there is the point that by this time, Night's Watch has largely become a dumping ground for criminals and losers in the game of thrones. The only reason this is even possible, is because joining is permanent. If Rykker or Thorne can leave the Watch, if they are permitted to flee and treated with pity, and spared, pretty soon no one else will be allowed to choose the Wall as an alternative to execution for treason or backing the wrong king. Or violent crimes against their fellow man.
Which brings up the next point. The Watch is already a mechanism of mercy. Most of the men who have taken the black are on their second chance or more. They have a trail of raped septas and incinerated families and girls like Bessa of Hag's Mire behind them. Even Will's crime of poaching might seem harmless, a mere violation of class privileges, but hunting laws are also rooted in the concept of conservation, and the idea that the wild game belongs to everyone, and someone has to decide how and when it can be hunted to preserve the supply for everyone. The nobles might have run wild with the authority for their own benefit, but when push comes to shove, they are the ones who need to think about feeding the whole community when Winter comes. A poacher is, in his own way, doing the same thing the lord does, when he sees the herds as his private resource, rather than one for the community.
Just as situations can be more complicated than the quick and reflexive notion of justice by the book, so too is the equally quick and reflexive notion of mercy. "What can we do for the condemned?" is no more pressing a question than "What do we owe the victims?" Regardless of what you think the answer to either question might me, there are much better places to go shining the light of that debate, than on Ned Stark, who does better than almost anyone in Westeros at both making the effort, and actually finding a reasonable balance.
Ned has this small speech in AGOT Bran I about why he must behead Gared, and I think there's some really interesting takeaways. Not about why he must do it, the part he focuses on; the part Ned doesn't focus on: why it's legal, and what that means for Gared.
"Do you understand why I did it?" "He was a wildling," Bran said. "They carry off women and sell them to the Others." His lord father smiled. "Old Nan has been telling you stories again. In truth, the man was an oathbreaker, a deserter from the Night's Watch. No man is more dangerous. The deserter knows his life is forfeit if he is taken, so he will not flinch from any crime, no matter how vile.
Ned moves our attention along to why Ned had to be his own headsman, but in just a few sentences here, we've been introduced to the paradox of law that makes this system so fundamentally unjust and broken.
We're told that "no man is more dangerous" than this deserter, so we might think, for a split second, that Ned feels he must kill the man because he is dangerous. But as Ned points out, the logic is actually the reverse: "he knows his life is forfeit if he is taken, so he will not flinch from any crime" (emphasis mine). It is not the prevalence of crime that is creating the demand for law, here, it's the existence of this extreme law that is generating the crime. Not wanting to be killed, the deserter would do anything to survive.
For Ned, the epitome of law in the North, who literally acts as judge, jury, and executioner, the tautology of the reasoning is irrelevant. The man is dangerous, now, whatever the situation. Of course, for Ned it's also really about an adherence to the laws of the Night's Watch, which is an institution as old as his house. It's their death sentence to declare, his to pass.
This time reading it, though, I was struck by how Ned's words here are an inversion to Septon Meribald's broken man speech, which is too long to relay here but ends with this:
"He turns and runs, or crawls off afterward over the corpses of the slain, or steals away in the black of night, and he finds someplace to hide. All thought of home is gone by then, and kings and lords and gods mean less to him than a haunch of spoiled meat that will let him live another day, or a skin of bad wine that might drown his fear for a few hours. The broken man lives from day to day, from meal to meal, more beast than man. Lady Brienne is not wrong. In times like these, the traveler must beware of broken men, and fear them . . . but he should pity them as well."
Septon Meribald is describing Gared here, just as much as he's describing the men at war. There isn't a mention here directly of the threat of punishment for desertion, which is more extreme with the Night's Watch than elsewhere, but the reality is the same. Here, though, Meribald's approach is entirely different than Ned's—Meribald, who walks among the smallfolk and gives away what good he can offer, has a much more understanding and empathetic view of these men.
Ned has the capacity for this understanding, but his role is simply not to have kindness here. All of the goodness and kindness Ned has otherwise just doesn't matter here, because here Ned is the law, and Ned is a lord still.
With the fact that even Ned is given this treatment, we see how rigid and unjust the laws and class structures are here. Even a "good person" is not good in Ned's position.
I think this highlights the cause behind the growing smallfolk unrest throughout the books and especially in Feast/Dance. Even the good lords, the ones who can see the problems at work here, are still lords, and still hold themselves to the status quo that keeps them in power above all else. And it takes a very different perspective—like the kind Arya has gotten, for example—to see it the way Meribald does. (Though Arya has gone the opposite route away from forgiveness... that's interesting too.)

The benefits entailed in a membership at a student association
In 2016, student associations were repeatedly mentioned negatively in the news. In particular, the reputation of G.S.C. Vindicat, full the Groninger Studenten Corps Vindicat atque Polit, was harmed. At the beginning of the current academic year a news item was published about the so-called ‘banga list’. Due to these kinds of messages student associations have been given a bad image. But what exactly are the benefits of membership? Through this blog I would like to tell you something about the student life and all the benefits that it entails.
Student associations in a bad light A news-site in Groningen, called Sikkom, received an anonymous message containing a strange file with concerning content about 22 female members of G.S.C. Vindicat. The file, intended to spread among the male members of the association, consisted of photographs, phone numbers and student houses of the female members. All the girls were given a ranking from one to four stars. The list, which resembled a notorious ‘banga list’ was spread by strangers on the Internet.
The University of Groningen (RUG), Hanze University Groningen and student association Vindicat wrote in a message on their website that they distance themselves from the recent events at the student union. Internal measures were taken and the creators of the list were suspended.
However, it did not stop there. There was a lot of commotion in media and the student associations had their compatriots angered. Heated discussions on the Internet, on television and within the student life itself followed. In less than a month a second incident took place at Vindicat which was not very fortunate for them. An apprentice member of G.S.C. Vindicat had been addressed so roughly during the hazing that he was hospitalized with head injuries. There are similar reports about hazing in Amsterdam, by the Amsterdamsch Studenten Corps (ASC).

Many people got a negative image of the associations. Hazing was not / is not humane. Why would you want to throw your life away with a membership? In popular view, there are only disadvantages.
I understand their thoughts. Negative news spreads quickly and a negative image or negative reputation is the result. I don’t agree at all with what happened during the hazing, but there certainly is another side to the story. The image the media creates of the student life is negative and the positive side of this life is not named in the articles.

My experience with student life I am going to take you on a journey through my experiences as a student. Through this blog, I would like to point out all the benefits that are entailed in a membership. The student life consists of more than drinking beer in the clubhouse in the hours that you don’t study. Not everything is about the hazing and tasks for freshman students. You learn a lot within the four walls of a clubhouse. You make new social contacts with whom you will enjoy the rest of your life and norms and values are important. The benefits of student life and student associations should be mentioned more.
When I was 17 years old, I made the first contact with student life. While I was doing intermediate vocational education, my friends from high school started their studies at colleges or universities. Because of this I was regularly found in the infamous student cities of the Netherlands. I went to parties, took my first steps in student houses and became acquainted with all the odd manners of student culture. I thought it was all really weird, but I think this was mainly because I was not part of it at that time. I liked to have a beer with them or to go to a party in the clubhouse, but to be a member of an association? No, that was not for me. No way.

I was really looking forward to start at the University of Applied Science and was actually truly curious about student life. I assumed that it was not for me. But when the summer approached I became more curious. Leiden, a real student city. Should I be a member of a student association? What are the activities for students in Leiden anyway? And are the associations also approachable for students from the University of Applied Science? There was only one way to find out. I had to experience the orientation week for new students in Leiden, the EL CID. A week in which you get to know the city and the college or university but where you also become acquainted with student life and all the associations that Leiden has to offer. As I travelled to Leiden, my only thoughts were that students were strange. And how did they all manage to study and be a member of a student association? I was dying to find out.
I've had a great week and I fell in love with the city and student life. How could people not love this life? Such nice people, amazing parties and activities for all kinds of people with different personalities. Students associations, sports clubs and even a club where they play board games.
I didn’t become a member of a student association that week. At that moment I thought I couldn’t combine a busy membership with my study. However, I have signed up to be a member of a student orchestra called S.M.G. Sempre Crescendo, the oldest subdivision of L.S.V. Minerva, full the Leidse Studenten Vereniging 'Minerva'. An orchestra where the members rehearse with a beer next to their music stand and the weekly get-togethers last until the early morning hours. There are unwritten rules, the so-called ‘mores’. You quickly manage to remember those during your membership. At the beginning, I thought all the rules were quite crazy, but as we speak I am completely entangled in the strange subculture.
I still enjoy the rehearsals every week with great pleasure, also the subsequent get-together. I’m even often found at the clubhouse on other days during the week as well and I’ve joined several committees. I have also lived in a student house, with roommates who are members at the other major student associations of Leiden, which makes me visit the other student associations regularly. There are a lot of things outsiders don’t know about the student life and that’s why I also think that the positive side of a membership needs to be highlighted.
The wrong impression Not only the previously mentioned news reports have drawn a false picture of what happens in the lives of students. Also in the television series ‘Feuten’ is greatly exaggerated. Many students were not pleased with the production of the series produced by the youth broadcasting BNN. The scene from the film ‘Soldaat van Oranje’ is also cited during a discussion.
All very entertaining, but the 'regular Dutchman' now thinks we're a bunch of disordered people without decency and respect for each other during hazing and other activities with freshman students. We students are more than that. The positive side of student life should be highlighted more and this blog will hopefully give more information about what is really going on in the life of an active member of a student association and what benefits the membership entails.

The benefits of a membership at a student association Being a member of a student association involves more than living in a student house, drinking lots and lots of beers and wearing a nice suit or dress during daily activities. There are many benefits to mention.
First of all, it’s much fun to join an association. You should be able to relax when you’re not studying and the associations provide that opportunity. Convivial evenings at the club, many activities and trips in which you can participate and there are almost always events to go to. Your social life unfolds in full speed!
You get to know new people very quickly and your network will be expanded significantly in a short time. Increasing your network can be very beneficial for the rest of your life - and it also brings you lifelong friendships. Especially if you are new to a city, it is not only nice to make friends quickly or even find a room with the help of your connections but also after finishing your study a large network is convenient. For example in finding a job.
During a job interview, your membership can also work to your advantage. More and more companies are looking at how much experience you have gained during your studies with extracurricular activities instead of only looking at your study program. The fact that you can combine your study with a membership and extracurricular activities says a lot about your personality and motivation. According to research by TNS NIPO on behalf of the Volkskrant, over two thirds of the most influential people in the Netherlands have been members of a student association.
Secondly, you can develop tremendously. You can join committees within the association and, for example, organize parties, manage the bar, write for the almanac or even provide some more politically oriented activities. If you are really ambitious, then perhaps a place within the board could be something for you. You can develop skills that you would not normally think of, you expand knowledge and gain new experiences which helps you to unfold and enriches your career.
Tumblr media
Several studies show that members of student associations or students who have lived in student houses often achieve better academic results than non-members. The people around them will always stimulate them to study properly. The students study together, they encourage each others and good results will be rewarded at the student associations, for example by offering you to join committees.
It is also remarkable that many associations engage in a collaboration with the municipality. For instance, A.L.S.V. Quintus from Leiden organizes an annual event called ‘The Museum Night’ and is engaged in developing a plan to solve the bicycle and litter problem which the city is facing at the moment. There is regular consultation between associations and municipalities in all major student cities and this brings advantages to both parties.
What is also important to point out, is that not all members are preppy and typical frats. There are lots of student associations in the Netherlands, in all kinds of forms, which you can join. In Leiden alone there are more than 20 different associations. Take a look at the associations which you are interested in and don’t be afraid of hazing or tough first year. Remember that you are not alone. Lots of new students are all sitting in the same boat. Hold on a bit longer. It's all worth it. The benefits are for the rest of your life. All benefits I’ve just mentioned. Keep that in mind.
Basically, when you join a student association, your student life will be an experience you will never forget, accompanied with a lot of benefits in the future.
Your college years are the best time of your life. It is therefore important that you fully enjoy it. Be aware of all the parodies that have been made about the student life and just laugh at it. When you’re a member of a student association, you know better. It is quite okay to laugh, which I would certainly recommend. Therefore, I will conclude this blog with two humorous videos about the student life, played by the men of Jiskefet, a humoristic and foolish television series from The Netherlands.
I hope the image of student associations is more positive thanks to this short blog and that the benefits which a membership entails now are clear. I’m a proud member and I have the most amazing time living in my student house. I wouldn't miss this for all the gold in the world!

What do you think would happen if Matsuda listened to Light and shot everyone in YellowBox?
This is the perfect opportunity to post a snippet I have that I still haven't found a fic for...
Ide and Matsuda went out on their second night back in Japan at some bar near NPA headquarters that Matsuda always forgot the name of, and five drinks in, Matsuda’s tongue got looser than his lips.
“I’ve been wondering,” he said, “why’d he want my help?”
Ide blinked. “What?”
Matsuda gestured ineffectually. “Y’know. Light, in the warehouse. The hell did he think I could do for him?” He shrugged his own question off. “Eh, he was probably just desperate…I mean, Takada was dead already and he begged for her, he really lost his mind.”
Ide thoughtfully leaned his chin on his hand with a little quirk to his lips. He was used to going back there by now, as Matsuda treaded those boards again, over and over till they wore to nothing beneath his feet. “Well, let’s walk through it. You’re in the warehouse. You’re siding with Light. What do you do?”
“Lidner first,” Matsuda said immediately. He could see the scene like it was before him. He wasn’t usually good at visualization, but that warehouse was always there. It was easier to see than dismiss.
“Lidner?”
“Smallest target, I’d want to get her before she could move. And she wasn’t distracted by Mikami. Then…then the other guy. Near’s other guy. Rester, that’s the name. I could probably get both of ‘em before one of you shot me, but only with one shot each. So they probably wouldn’t even die, not if they got an ambulance fast enough. But that would’ve given Light time to write Near’s name.” He takes a swig of his drink. “Mikami would try something, and Gevanni would stop him — let’s say that keeps him busy; Mikami was handcuffed, but never underestimate the strength of crazy. Aizawa would kill me. You would get Light, or maybe Mogi would. Gevanni would get Mikami under control. Then medical attention for Lidner and Rester. Three to five casualties. Kira loses.”
“Okay, okay, okay,” Ide said, gesturing like a keynote speaker. “Near’s team is dead or occupied. You anticipate us drawing our weapons and pull out your second gun —“
“Ide, I just had the one gun.”
“You slide across the floor, firing with each weapon —“
“That’s not how it works! Dual wielding’s just a movie thing, I’d miss every shot —“
“Dropping Aizawa and Mogi first, then me.”
“C’mon, Ide, I’d hesitate! That would have given you time.”
“Mmmmm, I don’t think you would. You didn’t hesitate to shoot Light, right? Once you decide a shot needs to be fired, you fire it.”
“Okay, fine. I do some John Wick shit, Near’s team is dead, you’re all dead, it’s just me and Light. And Mikami, I guess.”
“Light picks up the notebook and writes both your names,” Ide said. “That’s what he hoped would happen.”
They looked at each other for a long moment. Then they burst out laughing, high and bubbling like champagne, Matsuda slapping Ide’s shoulder as if he could sap Ide’s strength for himself.
“Our imaginary Light watches too many movies,” Ide said.
“Yeah, man, no kidding. D’you know I taught him to shoot a handgun once? First time he fired it he dropped it. Took three days before I gave up.”
“Okay, seriously, though,” Ide said. Matsuda’s smile turned like he’d tasted a lemon. “I think Light knew he couldn’t kill everyone there, even with your help.”
“So why tell me to shoot you? Why not give up? Just the desperate ravings of a doomed man, or…”
Ide shook his head. The amber light of his drink scattered onto his face like a sunset, and for a brief moment he was the brightest thing in the room. “No, I think he was trying to win.”
“Hm?”
“I’m no Ryuuzaki,” Ide said. “I don’t know Light — never knew how he thought, not really. But…in the end, he was trying to justify himself. Trying to prove that he was right.” He swirled his drink, and the sunset turned to water. “If you’d sided with him, it would have proved something. He’d still have died, but he’d have died vindicated.”
“Hm. Neat theory, but you’re forgetting something.”
“What?”
“Light never gave a shit about what I thought.”
“Maybe not,” Ide said. “But in the end, what you believed meant everything.”

Charec shakes the enderman's hand and gives him the journal.
"I hope your friends have a good time cracking the code. Oh and another thing, If you see a vindicater in full netherite armor and with a villager child, don't attack. That's my brother and the kid has PTSD." He wars with a stern face.
The nameless brewer was still standing there.
"Uh.... Hey! You dropped your helmet. You alright?"
