other main character meta- Ochako, pt 1

“Could you send me there?” you ask, while i blink, confused. “The world where someone else is the main character? not because i have any hypocritical biases against the one i got, just curious how the fandom meta changes.”

“Oh, yeah, sure.” I nod, thinking, before tapping my wand against your forehead. “Let’s start with Ochako.”

"I'm going to warn you now- I will have to slightly adjust the plot like I did with Mirio, just to actually let her be the main character."

"Yeah, that checks out." You nod, thinking about certain arcs where the female fighting teams get no coverage while the dudes get four different backstory reveals and full fight focus.

"Very well."

The show begins with a brief narration by the girl of quirks and super hero fights- all flashy. Then it zooms out to show the destruction, and a small construction team moving in as Ochako explains that just as there are new careers in society for heroes, there's also a bigger market for construction companies, one of which her own family runs.

"I've always wanted to help them with it, and my quirk would be useful"- a tiny, adorable Ochako finally appears, making rocks in a park float- "but to get a work license like that is expensive and selective- you've got to make a lot of court appearances and convince them why is a good idea and won't destroy the economy. It's much easier to get a hero license."

Then she explains: "Of course, once you have a hero license, you can make a lot more money than just by helping the company. Especially if... Your family company isn't doing very well." A series of tired but loving parents are shown working all hours to make ends meet.

"I want to help them- my parents. They've done everything for me, and they deserve a break. So that's why I'm going to be a hero- their hero."

The training montage is quick, using her quirk during school in training, after school in secret, around the house. She saves up money too, and studies, aiming for a scholarship.

She applies and tests for many hero schools, and the exams all vary widely.

The first episode ends with her looking up at UA, her final one, the one she really hopes to get into.

"Oh, that's nice." You nod. "And we even get to know her parents' quirks here."

"Yep." I agree. "In general, there's a lot more of a look at the financial side. It's pretty interesting."

"And the fandom?"

"Well, certain people get praised for the bare minimum, but I'll admit having a female lead is super uncommon for shonen jump." It's an improvement, though it's up in the air how much of one it will be. "There's also, because we saw a lot more hero schools, a ton of "students at different school" fics, either because they were expelled or because of the danger UA gets into."

"I do kinda feel like this universe is lucky for that sort of world building." You nod.

"It's very cool to see the takes on the aus. But, I will say there's a cost for this world building- the AfO stuff reeeeally comes out of nowhere and tends to not be popular with fans."

The next episode starts, and Ochako helps a boy from falling. "Love interest alert!" The fans notice quickly when the cute boy blushes and doesn't manage to say much before she walks away.

"They caught on quick." You note.

"And they aren't wrong." Not that it's any real feat to be right.

The exam starts, and Ochako is off in a flash. You see a few glimpses of future classmates- Iida, Aoyama, Kirishima.

She does well, racking up villain points and rescue points, until she's a little too ambitious and falls into the rubble. Her nausea is well established by now, everyone knows she's at her limit.

She can't get up.

The green haired boy comes back and stops the zero pointer.

And breaks every bone in the process.

Ochako saves him in return, lifting up the rubble and stopping his fall.

And then vomits violently afterwards.

"You know, I think quirks suck, actually." The fandom tends to agree on this after that episode/chapter. "But it is interesting that there's such a price for the powers, balances it really well."

"Ha." You shake your head. "They caught onto that, quicker."

"Yep." I can't even say it's more highlighted here, it's the exact same way it was shown in our universe- down to the sparkling rainbow puke.

"Though..." You can't quite imagine that's the only thing the fandom is saying isn't actually that great.

"Ding ding ding." I nod. "Did our own main character get treated just like a damsel in distress? Sure, she saved him back, but that just meant she could have floated away on her own in that time, even if it made her sick. Better that than dead. Is it the sexism?" I shrug. "Most decide to wait and see a bit, and by the time they work together in the first battle exercise figure it's a pretty even split between them saving each other."

"So no sexism?" You get happy at that thought.

I cough. "Ah, no. Both in the show and the fandom. You wouldn't believe how many grown men complain about the lady mc, even as they keep watching."

"And have her body pillow."

"Please don't make me think about that." I cover my eyes, but don't deny that it's true. "Anyway, yeah. Get ready for a lot of people to point out that even though the main character is a girl, every single other girl is flat as cardboard so far and that she only has developed friends that are guys."

"Hey, they aren't flat-"

"In the first season? Yeah they are. Unless you meant, physically, in which case..."

"I didn't." You protest. "But I guess I can see your point, at the start."

"Right. Let's continue on."

Uraraka goes to Present Mic to offer her points. The man pats her on the head, and skyrockets to the position of fandom dad.

"It's all about Dadmic and then Dadzawa here," I explain. "The fans were very disappointed to learn Mic wasn't her homeroom teacher, but yeah... He got a huge head start before Dadzawa fics got going."

"Nice. And it's all fanon?"

"Yeah, it may be a good thing he's not actually in it much, or they might realize how much they just made up on their own."

Then she gets accepted in, on hero and rescue points- she's third place overall, and she gets the scholarship.

On the first day of school, she actually gets to know her love interest's name- Midoriya!

There's also the quirk assessment, which really leads to the "expelled to another school" au and the "fire Aizawa and replace him with better Mic" aus, the first of which lasts much longer in the fandom use, but the second one was just as passionate for a while.

Iida becomes the second friend, and gives her the "Infinity Girl" nickname- which actually is the fandom assumption of what her hero name will be for quite a while, a la 'ground zero'.

Then it's time for All Might's first appearance on screen, to much applause of the students, and the announcement that they get their costumes.

During the first battle exercise, there's a lot more lingering camera work in the changing rooms. Ochako gets to expand a lot more on how she didn't want her costume to be that tight. It's uncomfortable, especially when she thinks about wearing it in front of everyone.

"Oh, I forgot she didn't like it at first... Does she just, get used to it here?" It sounds horrible for the plot to just say 'get used to it' to the main character being sexualized by costume makers outside of her control, especially as a child.

"Not on my watch." I mumble, waving the wand. "Don't worry, she'll actually get more costume changes each time, like some other characters."

"Oh good."

Mineta, regrettably, still exists. You find the fandom manages to be even more violent in his removal.

The battle does even out the opinions on Midoriya, as well as lead to a boost in Iida's with his charming little attempt at thinking villainously.

And cements Bakugo as rather hated. No one has really liked him, when the first thing he did was blow up at Midoriya, then get revealed to have called him a cruel nickname all this time. And then specifically hunt him down because all he cares about it beating him up.

"Yeah he's not gonna get a lot of fans here huh."

"He sure never gets first place in the popularity poll." I agree. "Most consider him the subversion of the rival trope to show is just stupid and violent and in real life, people like that don't go anywhere."

"Most?"

I look away. "How dumb of a discourse do you think you could see today?"

"Oh please, show me." You lean in. "It's nice to not have to deal with it in my universe, so I don't care."

The discourse is such.

Bakugo is gay-coded for Midoriya, the violence is a result of him being shoved off for a girl's love interest when she should be single and independent, and the homophobic creator is vilifying all gay people by saying they are predatory to poor straight boys with refused.

"They............... What."

"If it makes you feel better, that's a very brief minority of the fandom. My favorite response to it was "he's not gay-coded, he's bully coded you sanctimonious sumph of a shmuck.""

"Oh good," you sigh. "I'm glad we don't have to deal with actual queerphobic tropes like that."

I stare at you.

"What?"

I sigh. "Nothing, put a pin in that until I bring up the predatory bi thing with Toga."

Your eyes widen, and you start to have some regrets.

"Anyway, we can talk shipping later. Time for more."

The 'exit sign Iida' gives him a boost in being shipped with Ochako, (as well as Yaoyorozu) and also the general idea that "Ochako has two hands."

That one hand can have a boyfriend with a lot of cash to spare for her and the other is also played with.

"I missed the main trio, like this." You smile as they walk off into the sunset after school.

"Yeah." I agree. "Anyway, time for some near death experiences."

The USJ marks the start of the gradual, gradual growth of Dadzawa fics. It also focuses far more on Ochako, Mina, Sero, and Iida having to think strategically to get around Kurogiri. It's only after Iida escapes that we cut back to a slightly abridged version of how Midoriya was doing, then the other kids, before help arrives.

He does still through his first non bone breaking punch though, which makes the audience happy.

All Might saves the day. Aizawa is battered afterwards. Many fans start out by saying they were disappointed, since this was supposed to be the first big fight, and the kids didn't do much. Many others say in response that's the point- we're looking at first years, they had to think and help each other, but in the end they had to rely on adults.

And then the sports festival is announced. They want to do well, because this is how they get work-week placements, which could become internship offers.

Ochako thinks about Hado Nejire, the only intern of a top ten hero, and senior at UA, along with a few others who are on the up and up. She's determined.

"Really? You're bringing in the big three early?" You ask, glancing at my wand.

It's not sparkling.

I cross my arms with a huff. "Look. Nejire is at this point the only intern in the top ten, she would have been recognizable to the students for that, even if they didn't recognize the big three (which really means that they aren't actually called the Big Three by everyone, or at least not a wide enough group for it to be as big a deal as it's treated. Anyway.) But she wasn't, even if she should have been the most famous of the bunch, considering the coverage the first years got in just their first night. That's because a certain someone doesn't actually think of his female characters much, but he has to in this universe, so."

"Ok, yeah, that's fair. So does that change the sports festival?"

"Not... Much." I admit.

“What?”

“Well, keep in mind in the first universe, our main character didn’t make it past the second round in the one-on-one’s. So she’s not exactly guaranteed a win here either.”

You have to nod, admitting that is true.

“And the conflict isn’t so much about having to live up to any predecessor or breaking down some people’s walls via breaking bones.” I tap my wand against my chin, thinking. “There really is two- one about Midoriya, and one about Ochako’s parents.”

“Oh?”

“One, there’s been the Uraraka’s not happy about how much danger Ochako’s been in. Its been hinted at in the phone calls, but really shows up when we get to see them at home before the SF for the first time since she moved for school. They aren’t sure if she can stay there herself, or if the right thing to do would be to pull her out and maybe try a smaller school.”

“I suppose that's fair, if they haven't been able to actually see her or her progress.”

“Right. The second one is- well. in this, Izuku’s win of the first round, and then breaking out of brainwashing, is more about really piling on how good his mind is- all that brain power. This adds more pressure when we see Ochako being offered a plan from him to beat Bakugo.”

“Oh that does sound neat.”

“Yep- but of course, she still refuses. It’s held up as a worse thing, strategically, initially- but then she comes up with a plan that Midoriya confirms in the stands is better than his, and proves to her parents that she’s smart and skilled enough to handle continuing at the school.”

You smile. “That is a cool arc to do, i guess, if very not traditional. But what about all the character setup and growth with Shinsou and Todoroki?”

“Oh, Shinsou’s largely gets delegated all the way later for the joint training arc, where Ochako’s team is directly against him. Todoroki...” I begin to giggle.

You wait for me to answer, getting more concerned the longer i laugh.

“Pocket?”

“Sorry, sorry, yeah. He actually tells her himself in this canon, a bit after stain. Oh! right, i forgot- the cheerleader incident.”

“Oh no.”

“Oh yes. of course they need this merch opportunity! But yes, it happens. The... shall we say, non-body-pillow portion of the fandom, generally saw it as the end of any goodwill to Kaminari, who had previously been seen as a tertiary possible love interest, since he’d flirted with her on the first day. Flirt, but harmless, and unlikely to be important. Then there was that breach of trust and international embarrassment, and anyway he’s basically the second least likely in 1a to be shipped with her now.”

“Wow. So none of that changed?”

“Well, the setup wasn’t under narration from Todoroki about how his mother was bought for her body and how much that sucked and impacted her and the family while on screen we see multiple girls tricked into barring their bodies and its treated as a laugh instead?”

You stare at me. “I’m not sure if that’s better or worse.”

“Neither am I.”

“So, the Todoroki reveal?”

“Right. So, first you need to know the Stain thing- the claims he has against ‘false’ heroes focusing on money is better spotlighted. After Stain’s arrest, Ochako hears a couple of sidekicks at Gunhead’s agency-”

“Wait!” you interrupt. “She still interned with Gunhead? Then what was the point of showing Nejire and Ryukyuu earlier?”

I try not to massage my forehead. “To build up to it. She only made it to the first of the final round, she couldn’t get an internship with a top tenner yet. She’s also got to learn how to disarm someone who fights with a knife. These things build up over more time, small steps.”

“Ah.” You’re satisfied, and let me continue.

“Right, so, Overhears a couple of them talking about Stain’s philosophy and ends up just feeling really bad about it for a bit, trying to figure out if she’s actually being selfish or a bad hero for, you know, wanting her family to not be crushed due to capitalism.”

“Poor girl.” You shake your head in sympathy, the freeze. “Oh. did not intend that pun.”

“It’s alright, i know what you mean. And yeah, she bottles it up for a bit, until the second day back at school. Then Iida reminds her that him bottling things up last week got several kids in mortal danger, and she begrudgingly admits that he has a point and tells them about what has been bugging her.”

“And they comfort her?”

“Well, Todoroki also offers to tell off Kaminari because at this point his mention of stain upset both her and iida, but yes, A lot of reassurances.”

You squint. “I feel like shippers.”

“You’re learning! Yes, Todoroki is just a bit behind Iida in terms of popularity shipping with her. and she does basically get shipped A Lot with each girl in her class too, like imagine double to triple the amount with each girl now, and for the minor guys- but yeah. There’s a lottttt of ships. This was basically called ‘todoroki’s introduction into ochako’s harem’ in the fandom.”

Shipping. fandom just can’t escape it.

“So, then she learns about Todoroki’s past? oh, and what about Hosu? Does she- and everyone else- actually think Endeavor saved the three??”

I snort. “Oh, no. Todoroki’s flat ‘yeah my father totally helped us, as you read on the official report’ basically tipped the fandom off that something else had. But nothing confirmed either, you know? Filling in the hosu gap is another trope in fics that is pretty common.”

“Neat.”

“Yep. But yeah Todoroki tells her his backstory a bit after his introduction into her ‘harem’ of friends. It’s really played up more to caution Ochako- its alright for her to want to help her family, and to work for money to do that. But Rei accepted the marriage offer for money for her family too, and it ended up breaking her. Ochako has to accept a balance- she can work to help her family, and its good, but there are some things she cannot morally do to help them, and other things that she shouldn’t do because she has to take care of her own health first.”

“Ohhhh.” You hadn’t quite expected that, but you sorta liked it, now that you thought about it.

I smile. “It is pretty neat, yeah.” I glance at my watch. “Look, i hate to cut you off, but this post is gonna end up thrice the length of Mirio’s and i think tumblr might stop me, so we’re gonna have to do a two-parter.”

“That’s fine.” You are gracious for what you’ve gotten so far, and do have questions that you’re excited to see answered for the rest of the series. “It’s been fun.”

“It has been.” I agree. “Lets take a break, but you can ask me any questions too, before I return for part two.”

The league of villains have been defeated. class 1a has just graduated and all seems to be well in japan. Until a new threat arises in America. Apparently there had been a group of villains that had been lurking in the shadows. Unfortunately, America was still trying to piece itself back together, and did not have many strong pro heroes left to destroy this group. So they looked to Japan for help, the same country they had helped only a year before. However Japan was suffering its own repercussions from the war against the villains and couldn't spare hero's either. But it was thanks to the idea of one red feathered chicken that all hope might not be lost. (warning, I will disregard most character deaths, and if they got injured, well then they somehow made a miraculous recovery, and definitely not because I want to kill them myself, and because I love Mirko too much not to put her in this fic-)

Why i hate hawks and what i think about the heroes and villains :

Firstly I always thought of hawks to be really sus when i was watching bnha, and even before season 5 or when i started to read the manga this year. I didn’t trust that he was a good character and got really bad vibes from him. While everyone else liked him, I just couldn’t bring myself to see how. Sure he’s cool and I guess good looking to others. But I never understood why people could like him. Moving on. He’s a huge ahole. In season 5 , he really made me mad when he was treating tokoyami that way. Even though he ended up being a great teacher and helping him out, it still bugged me, idk but that’s my opinion. Now to the biggest reason I hate hawks, is what he had done twice. He had no reason . No reason to do that to him . Even though it was his job to betray the Lov, he really didn’t have to go down that path. Where was the good in killing twice? Making him think that they were friends, making him think that twice had another person to trust and someone else who understood . It's like hawks said right ? That he was only going to take him into custody, and help him change his ways . He said this right before he killed him off. And even more, what was the point at ALL for saving him from dabi’s fire???? What was the reason, if he was just going to kill him off himself . How is that being a hero ? Heroes are supposed to do anything to stop the villain, without causing deaths. There was no justice in killing twice, there was no justice in betraying the league, there was no justice in even giving the hero's information on the villains, because in the end, they just ended up having a huge war that they didn't even when, and let many heros die and villains get away, and everyone disagreeing with the heroes and having them against them. All i'm trying to say is , i don’t think hawks should be called a hero , and i hate him for what he has done, not only to twice, but also making things so much worse, gaining the trust of people who really believed him and then betrayed them, and for him getting justice for killing when isn't that a crime when the villains do it?

Speaking of heros. I don’t condone any of the villains for their crimes. But none of it would have happened if it wasn’t for society . The way I see it, it's the world's fault for how every villain turns out. No one is willing to help them. Listen to them. Understand their story . Villains, in my opinion, are understood people that lash out against the world, because the world turns their back on them. Just like what happened to Shigaraki when he was little. The old lady went up to him, gave him some type of hope that someone was there, got a good look at his appearance and she walked away and said “I'm sure the police or heroes will come soon” . Even the people on the street just gave him glances , not even bothering to see what's wrong.

“ After that, i left home and ran away . I had no idea what to do .” None of this would have happened if his family treated him better . “ What am i supposed to do now ?. Someone … Anyone… please tell me. Help me!”

“ But even so , in a society overflowing with heroes , I couldn't help but wonder if no one saving me was my punishment for killing my family “ . He even feels guilt for what happened, but he was put in a position where he had no choice, or that's what he was led to believe. That if he could take away the thing that led to his itchiness, he’ll finally be okay. He didn't know that it was a wrong thing, he was desperate to be finally okay, he didn't even know what to do , he didn't know what he was doing

“ If only he had done something , if only she had done something, I thought the itching went away but . If at that time, just one person had lent a helping hand … maybe all of the itchiness would have gone away.”

Why wasn't anyone there? Aren't heroes supposed to always be there, saving people, helping them, isn't society responsible for what happens around them since they are the ones who control how it can change and what happens to it from their actions? And then they wonder why things happen to them. Why not step into the villains shoes. Why can't the world just be kind , and right . But his itching went away, because just when he found himself all alone, surrounded by nothing but loneliness and getting hurt by the people around him, someone came to save him. And that person wasn't a hero, but a villain . Do you understand where I'm getting at? Of course shigaraki would grow up thinking that things that are illegal are okay, and why he turned out that way.

Fake heroes couldn't care less. They are in it for themselves , not giving a dang about anyone else. It's just for show. They just want to keep up appearances, show that they could never do wrong . But a true hero would keep fighting, and keep helping , making sure everyone was okay and preventing things from happening. He would fight for what's right. I dont think a true hero would let the villain get away of course, but they would look for the good in them and help them become a better person. Again, i do not condone the villains' actions. Because I do also believe that there are just some things that are purely evil and cannot be forgiven or even have an excuse for , but I'm saying, there are always two sides to a story. We just need someone who can look at both and make a change .Because maybe the heroes aren't really the people who should be getting praise in the story . In the end, sometimes the heroes are the hypocrites and the ones doing wrong. And we just need people to see that.

I don't know if I have a strong sense of justice, or think in grey, or maybe I'm just rambling. But I always felt strongly about these types of things. I am happy to share some more thoughts on bnha and some opinions and theories i have - 🔥❄️️

And anon!! You are super valid to have this opinion

I do understand where you’re coming from. I’m a very indecisive person. So when it comes to this situation I understand both sides. I understand why it was awful for Hawks to kill Twice, but I also understand why he had to do it. I generally agree with what you’re saying though and do understand where you’re coming from. But I also think it’s important to remember that Hawks did not want to kill Twice. It was 100% the worst case scenario — the scenario that had happened. It was an awful thing to do and you’re once again very valid to dislike him for this reason, totally understandable. I personally like Hawks bc,, he is the personification of what’s wrong with hero society. He was a child with a gifted quirk who was groomed to be what is perfect for societal standards — to be a good hero. He was stripped of everything from such a young age and to him,, this was normal. This shows how fucked up hero society is and how, being someone raised by the government, that has influenced his thinking. For example with the Twice situation and how he did not hesitate to hurt Twice

As for the villains, I 100% agree with you. They are a result of a failed hero society. Take Toga for example, she was completely trashed bc of her quirk. These people are pushed to villainy bc they literally have no where else to go. Where was Toga supposed to go after everyone treated her so horribly? Where was Dabi supposed to go after Endeavor? These people had no one. They are the result of a toxic mentality that revolves around quirks. The lesser or more “villainous” your quirk is, the further down you are in the chain. This was shown with Deku, but to a much lesser extent. Bc Deku was quirkless, he was treated like his quirk — he was treated like nothing. This is why I love villain!Deku AU’s so much bc,, it’s so interesting to think about where Deku would have gone if he had grown hatred for the people who treated him so horribly.

This reminds me of Ochakos question of “who saves the heroes” bc the answer is that the heroes save the heroes. They are the ones who are there for each other. This is why I want her to change her question to “who saves the villains” as she tries to save Toga,, bc who does save the villains? Bc it sure as hell isn’t the heroes

BnHA/MHA Thoughts in Light of recent chapters

I’ve let myself have more time to digest 287 so here are some more thoughts and personal opinions. I reference an previous post-linked here- a couple of times..

1) Shigaraki is never going to be free of a vestige of AfO trying to take over at anytime. This is due to the fact that AfO explained that his version of vestiges/lingering bits of genetic memories from stolen quirks only left him whenever he got rid of those quirks. Shigaraki is not about to get rid of the quirk called All for One since he is Izuku’s foil and Izuku is the holder of One for All.

Therefore, it doesn’t matter what Shigaraki does to that mental form of AfO, as long as he as that quirk, he has that vestige just lurking, waiting.

It’s pretty much the closest to a form of demonic possession the BnHA/MHA universe has. Which, leads me to my next train of thought.

2) What will become of the AfO in the real world locked up in Tartarus now that his original quirk is in Shigaraki like a trojan horse virus with part of his consciousness in it.

We know he has a “copy” of his old quirk but since he was the original holder it doesn’t seem to be as...lessened as any other copies he’s given out before--see Nine from the second BnHA movie of very questionable canon. I phrase it like that, btw, because it just doesn’t quite fit the same way the first one does. I digress, back to AfO the Potato Bastard in a cell. Either he is going to go braindead/just plain dead or something else is going to happen. Something big. and it’s not going be seen coming because Horikoshi is tricky.

My bestie pointed out, Horikoshi’s favorite tactic to keep fans off balance is the “distract and drop” method wherein he’ll go from one very exciting thing to another. It’s a good trick and he does it well without it feeling jarring within a story. So, we might not find out for awhile if anything has happened to AfO the person during all of this. So what’s the something big?

I still think he’s going to prison break. I felt that since he was locked up. Will he be a focus? No because Shigaraki vs Izuku is the focus. We’re in a sequel to an All Might vs AfO the man story and we’re still missing a lot of pieces from that tale. AfO missing his original quirk is still diminished a lot like All Might without One for All, which is another great parallel going on but I just feel like there is something else to it. I just don’t have enough in text clues to figure it out.

3) The Secret of One for All is going to end up known.

Maybe not all of the secrets but if we go back before Izuku went head first into a fight against Shigaraki, One for All was something being spoken about, even if people weren’t quite sure what it was. They knew it was something Shigaraki and the villains were after and once something like that is out there should be people digging into that phrase and whatever it is. I can’t fully remember how it was spoken about and my online source doesn’t let me go back more than two chapters prior to what is posted (I’ve gone legit for manga translations) but I’m half sure that someone who survived the rampage will still remember that One for All was something Shigaraki was after.

4) From the way the manga’s been cutting back to Ochako, she and Toga are going to have a head to head and it’s not going to be pretty but it’s going to be major for Ochako’s character.

This is because she has been cut to a lot in these past several chapters and showing up in art for these chapters despite not having her turn with “screen time” for the Jaku arc. I also think that Ochako isn’t going to approve of Twice’s death but her answer is still going to push Toga over the deep end.

5) We are going to get Dabi vs Endeavor-probably.

I listed this so far down because it’s one of those things that I think is semi-obvious because it was set up after the High-end Nomu gave Endeavor his come-to-kami-moment (and made him realize what shit dad he was). Dabi will either go off on his own and pick this fight or it’ll be an ambush on the retreating Shoto as he tries to get his injuried friends and father to safety and Endeavor shows he’s not as down for the count as he appeared.

6) More explanations from my first post about why I now think DfO is dead in the water.

Firstly, I love that theory so I’m not trashing it. It’s a fun theory full of angsty goodness.

Secondly,

I’ll elaborate in less vague terms now that I’ve had time to let this digest.

AfO the malevolent vestige inside the fight between the quirks called Izuku “worthless” which is what gave me Master Xehanort vibes because he called Sora a dull, ordinary boy” at one point in one of the numerous in-between-quels prior to KH3′s release.

So, AfO the vestige thinks Izuku was a bad choice because he was a “worthless” boy unworthy of the power he coveted. Like I said in my other post, this is what sinks DfO because even at his angriest, AfO the person and the vestige never seemed to call first OfA worthless even at his most pissed. He’d called first OfA pathetic, though.

Which means this might be partly a red-herring or AfO the vestige is warped by Shigaraki’s hatred of Izuku. AfO the vestige could also be warped by his hatred of his brother refusing to submit AND the fact that Izuku now has something he desperately covets which leads to this sour grapes moment of “you chose someone worthless” with the added unspoken caveat of ‘worth less than me who wants it more.’

First OfA also called out AfO on his tactics of just seeing people as tools he could use. I wouldn’t put it past AfO to have spawned an offspring for the science and been disappointed by a “worthless quirkless” child. So, there is still some slight hopes but I am not optimistic but that’s ok.

AUs were made for those things that aren’t canon and AUs are my favorite things about fandoms.

Tagging System

As it’s a new year, I thought I’d offer a reminder about what the symbols produced by the automatic tagging system mean, and some more details on the filters themselves.

♥️ = Romantic (“/”) Tododeku is the main ship, and there are no side ships with either Izuku or Shouto listed.

Romantic “Main Ship” Test:

A) It’s the First Slash Ship, found within the first four Relationship Tags B) It’s the Second Slash Ship, after a Family Member or Teacher ship (Toshinko, Erasermic, Touyahawks etc.) while Izuku and/or Shouto are mentioned in the Title or Description

In all cases Izuku and/or Shouto must be mentioned in the first four characters or in the first two relationships, or it is moved to the next category.

♡ = Romantic (“/”) Tododeku is not the main ship, but there are no side ships with either Izuku or Shouto listed.

For “main ship” factors, see above.

Searching for all possible ship names would be unreasonable, so the code detects side ships by looking for ships where they first four letters before or after the slash mark are NOT an expected part of Izuku or Shouto’s name.

Side Ship Test Example:

Midoriya Izuku/①②③④_____ ________ ①: Doesn’t Start with “S” or “T” (for Shouto or Todoroki) ②: First one matches, but no “h” or “o” after (for Shouto or Todoroki) ③: First two match, but no “o” or “d” after (for Shouto or Todoroki) ④: First three match, but no “u” or “o” after (for Shouto or Todoroki)

The code then searches specifically for Slash (“/”) Ships with the rest of the Midoriyas and Todorokis, and other common nearly matching names (Shouta Aizawa), to block them specifically.

♣ = A Polyamorous Romantic (“/”) Ship including both Shouto and Izuku is the main ship, but there are no side ships outside the polyamorous group for Izuku or Shouto.

“Main ship” test is as above, only step B isn’t restricted to Family Member or Teacher ships first.

The first/last four letters of the characters in the polyamourous group are added to the “side ship” test, and any known family members to the family member secondary check.

Poly ships with their own feeds include Todobakudeku, Todokirideku, Todobakukirideku, Todoshindeku, Todoiideku, Todochadeku and Todomomodeku. Other poly ships can show up courtesy of the Tododeku Plus feed, if they tagged “Midoriya Izuku/Todoroki Shouto” separately, though the extended restrictions mentioned below apply.

♧ = Romantic (“/”) Tododeku is included, but there are side ships, OR a Polyamorous Romantic (“/”) Ship including both Shouto and Izuku is present, but it is not the main ship or there are side ships also.

Basically, if it fails all the other criteria it ends up here.

Adult/Child ships are skipped with the help of a master list of common adult characters. This filter cannot detect misspellings or characters I didn’t think to include, so some ships might slip through. Please report any works with untagged, mistagged or unskipped adult/child ships. (Note, Canon Young Adult/Canon Student Ships are fine as long as it’s a future fic or an AU where they’re all adults. For Example: Adult Izuku/Hawks is fine as a side ship).

Because predicting all possible ships is impossible, anything tagged with an “Underage” warning or anything in a list of common “NSFW” tags is skipped. Again, my NSFW list isn’t infinitely long, so please report NSFW works with Izuku or Shouto side ships.

This tag doesn’t have it’s own feed, but can be added by either the Tododeku Plus or Polyamorous Tododeku feeds.

♦️ = Platonic (“&”) Tododeku is a main ship. No Romantic (“/”) Ships including Shouto or Izuku are present.

Platonic “Main Ship” Test:

A) It’s the First Relationship. B) It’s the Second Relationship, or later in the tags with Izuku and Shouto as the First Two Characters, ALSO there are either No Slash (“/”) Ships OR the first Slash Ship is a Family Member or Teacher Ship.

The same “Side Ship Test” above is done in the “Additional Tags,” so any ships besides Tododeku listed there will result in the work being skipped.

♢ = No listed relationship, but Izuku and Shouto are the first two characters.

This tag doesn’t have it’s own feed, but can be added by both the Izuku and Shouto feeds.

♠️ = Solo character stories. The focus is either Izuku and his family, Shouto and his family, or Izuku and Shouto both but not as the first two characters and with no listed relationship.

Because Izuku based stories are more common, the Izuku’s feed requires a main Platonic (“&”) Relationship with him and at least one family member. All for One, Toshinori and Aizawa are considered family members if there are “Dad for One”, “Dad Might”, or “Dadzawa” tags respectively.

Any Character Death, Villain Izuku (sans Villain Shouto), Female Izuku (sans Female Shouto), Suicidal Izuku, Chat Fics, and Crack Fics, are also removed to further trim down Izuku stories.

The Shouto feed accepts other Todorokis simply being listed in the First Four Characters, or First Two Ships, and only trims out Chat Fics and Major Character Death.

Both feeds ignore all the previous rules (except the Chat Fic one) if both characters are listed in the combined First Four Characters and First Two Ships.

Because of past issues with badly tagged ships, Platonic Izuku & Katsuki, Ochako, Toga or Shigaraki, OR Platonic Shouto & Momo or Inasa are never allowed listed first, and cannot be listed at all without additional platonic Izuku or Shouto ships present.

If there are Slash (“/”) Ships, they must be Family Member or Teacher Ships, and unless Izuku or Shouto are in the description, or the Slash Ship is later on in the ship list, they will be tagged as below.

♤ = Solo character stories with a Family or Teacher main ship.

If either Izuku or Shouto aren’t in the First Two Characters AND explicitly mentioned in the Title or Description, while the first relationship is a Family or Teacher Slash (“/”) Ship, this tag is added in place of the one above.

While family centered stories are quite likely to prominently feature the kids involved, that’s not always the case, so this tag acts as a bit of a warning.

FanFiction.net Stories:

All these rules were replicated to the best of my ability for the FanFiction.net feed.

Since platonic relationships are not a thing on FanFiction.net, stories where Izuku and Shouto are the only characters listed, or are the first two characters while one of the genres is “Friendship”, are those tagged with “♦️”.

If Izuku and Shouto are the only characters and either one genre is “Romance” or “Tododeku” is in the description, it is assumed they were meant to be in brackets it is tagged with a “♥️”.

Since multiple ships per character can’t be tagged, the “♧” tag will only occur if other common ship names (like “Bakudeku,” “Ochadeku” or “Todomomo”) are in the description, while Tododeku is the main bracketed ship.

The “Romance” genre with no bracketed ships, and more then two characters, will cause the story to be sent to this feed’s draft folder. There is no good way for the auto tagger to tell what’s going on, and I don’t always have time to manually go through the drafts, so unless something pops out at me they’ll usually just be deleted. Sorry!

Other Details:

If you’re wondering how First X Characters are determined, my code deletes all brackets, finds "Characters:", deletes common non-Characters and fluff words (Class 1A, Class 1B, UA Staff, "Some", "Mentioned", etc.), and then splits up whatever is left. (The same is done for "Relationships:") Useful groupings (1st, 2nd, 1st & 2nd, 1st-4th, and 1st-8th) are set as variables, which are referenced by all the steps to follow.

Sometimes people tag very strangely which can mess things up (why there are weird tags occasionally) but it works a vast majority of the time.
