[Portrait] @xaviertheunis was born in 1978, in Anderlecht, Belgium. He works with a large variety of materials, but the most identified and recognizable is industrial adhesives mounted on aluminum plates. But it seems that of all the materials Xavier Theunis uses in his practice, distance is possibly the one that always comes first. Xavier Theunis is graduated from @villaarson (Nice). His work has been shown in several museums, including @mamacnice_officiel. He is represented by @galerie_catherine_issert since the beginning of the 2000’s and by Backslash since 2012. We presented his work in 2 solo exhibitions and many group shows and fairs. The 3rd solo is planned for November 2020, to coincide with the 10 years of the gallery ! @simonnicaise was born in 1982 in France. Observing and absorbing the reality in its different dimensions (visual, material, cultural or social), the artist reproduces it through a work which disturbs the order of things, while often looking elementary. While each creation seems the logical result of a simple idea, the artist’s work is in fact about oscillations, shifts, absurd or counterproductive inversions. Simon Nicaise explores the sculpture’s field by experimenting, in his works but also their context; the exhibitions are themselves though as a sculptural work. In 2018, he started a “Tour de France”, as craftsmen have done for centuries, in order to shift his practice and studio, and learn new ways of thinking and working. Simon Nicaise has been showing his works in many museums and art centers like @fracnormandierouen, @villaarson, @centrepompidou, @musee_fabre, Abbaye de Maubuisson, @mamco_geneve, @circuit.lausanne, @cac_lahalledesbouchers, @frac_provencealpescotedazur, @fracfranchecomte, @mainsdoeuvres. Earlier, he won renowned @salondemontrouge_ and @jeunecreation prizes in 2009 and Sciences Po Prize in 2011. His work is part of many collections, including @cnapfr, @fracnormandiecaen or @josephkouli private collection. After showing his work in Backslash’s inaugural group show, he was represented by @dominiquefiat for years, Galerie Bodson and @albertbaronian in Brussels and more recently showed works at @galerieparisbeijing. "Most  gulls  don't bother  to  learn  more than  the  simplest  facts  of  flight-  how  to  get  from shore  to food  and  back  again.  For  most  gulls  ,  it  is  not  flying  that matters,  but  eating.” Richard  Bach  .  "Jonathan  Livingston  Seagull  ".  1970 Daedalus crafts wax wings and emerges from  captivity ,  along with his son, Icarus.  Icarus  took off from the Labyrinth but despite of Daedalus' warning, comes too close to the sun; The wax melts  and  Icarus  falls  into  the  sea. The Myth about Daedalus and Icarus. The  formula,  "free  as  a  bird",  seems ephemeral  like,    the  word  "responsibility". Drawing  a  line  between individual  and  artificial  as  (externally  imposed)  responsibility  is  as problematic  as  defining  the  word  "freedom",  for    these  two  are strongly  interlinked. Based  on  the  principe  of  an  ornithopter  ,  an  artificial (mechanical)  bird  will  try  to  fly  away from  an electrical power source  but won't be able to  get rid  of it.  Since it  is  connected  to  its own  source  of power  and  is  not  as  "free  as  a  bird". In  an  electronic  as  well  as  not  in an  electronic  way , human  beings  are  also  linked  to  their  mental power source. Media delivering artificial responsibility , which form an obstacle for free choice and  personal  responsibility . 

Exhibition (Response  :  Abilities) was held in  Nice, Villa  Arson //  École nationale supérieure d'art -Centre d'art  contemporain.In  exhibition participated  students  of  Contemporari  Art  of  Tbilisi  (CCA). During the  exhibition mechanical bird cut  the  rope  which was tied  and ruled by ,  and fell  down.  And now it looks  like  this  … In  the  video  it  can  be  seen  the  movement the  bird  was  making before  the  falling.Now  it  is second  phase  of  the  work.
