Vikings watchers I need your thoughts! (Spoilers below up to s4e16)

I haven’t picked up this show in a long time. After Ragnar died, even though I knew that it was gonna happen sooner or later and was pretty telegraphed by that point, it was a while before I watched the next episode. But then I did watch another episode or two, but again haven’t watched it in a while since then.

I’m sorry but I just. I don’t give a crap about his sons. I just don’t. None of them are likable in any way. Besides Bjorn of course, who I’d love to see more of but the focus hasn’t really been on him. Same with Lagertha - LOVE her, but have hardly been seeing her.

ANYWAY. I just want to ask for anyone who has seen it all or at least more than me - should I keep watching? Does it get better? I know Ragnar dying is a big adjustment and historically accurate but I just can’t see continuing without him, especially after we already lost Athelstan… And when the replacement story/ies seem to be largely leaning towards the 3 younger sons, I just don’t know man. But fuck, I REALLY love Vikings in general and want a good show like this in some way!

omg fun fact i'm helping my sibling study for a religious education exam, so this is very on the nose

athelstan is so poor little meow meow

and that kind of translates into his relationships

he drinks a lot of tea

and lagertha makes it for him

athelstan loved taking care of gyda, it reminded him of his own siblings

and he mourned her. so much.

even though he knows they wouldn't understand, he prays for all the people he loves, to every god he knows

rarely gets sick

but when he does, it's bad

stayed in contact with lagertha post-divorce

he's the reason why ecbert admired her so much

he definitely had a strong friendship with lagertha

i think in general, athelstan had more female friends than male friends

ragnar being the exception

modern!athelstan is a foster care child

lives on the found family tag

he has a tumblr, i know it

trauma dumps with ragnar

him and aslaug don't get along at first, but she appreciates it when athelstan takes care of the kiddos while ragnar is off *somewhere*

in general, athelstan takes care of everyone around him but not himself

this also applies to relationships

athelstan is a quiet partner. he's always there, always helping, but doesn't say much

love language is acts of service

struggles with his feelings and expressing them

he's not sure if he wants a family, just bc there's been so many families he's been in, and had to leave (his own, monks, ragnar's in s1, then in England with Ecbert, and back and forth)

likes to cook and do the laundry, but abhorrs cleaning

especially scrubbing floors

opens up only very far into the relationship

Update of my journey watching Vikings: Lagertha left Ragnar, finally!!! But then married an abuser... They didn't give her one minute of happiness before throwing her in misery again. I repeat myself: WHY????

I just started S3 Ep1 of Vikings and bro… Athelstan and Ragnar are definitely in love you can’t tell me otherwise. Ain’t no reason for them to be so tender and adorable with eachother idc idc I ship them. Also I want Lagertha to be my wife I love her so much.
