finally finished the profile for the danseiroido!! this took way too long just because drawing anime headshot is my biggest nightmare... and then ended up not even looking That anime LOL... i've already had a few comics up in the tag (search em to read!) but. a brief intro is that i basically just made them idols (somewhat) and threw them in the same boygroup to write sitcom/4-koma slice of life random jokes, as i always do! they also share the same universe with my entire vocaloid neighborhood setup (but this will - might - be for another day)
there isnt a deep overarching plot as for now, its just daily lives of a boygroup that doesnt really do anything idol-like and occasionally featuring others around them from the vocal synth ville. oh and idk if i can call them a polycule because they dont really think or operate that way But! i do want all of them to fool around and have their own "ship moment" (if you want to call it that? i dont really label these things and i want to write it that way) tldr they all fuck one another. every single ship in the group canon (EXCEPT the obvious anyone x len. timeout for him he got his ass kicked out whenever they do it...)
my concept/idea for it (not much tbh this is just me rediscovering my love for vocaloid - though one can argue it never went away - and started make up random shits for them so its pretty much spontaneous and not a serious project or anything) is a parody of sort on stereotypical otome/bl genres and boygroups and anime tropes and obviously the vocaloid fandom/history. but i dont think i know enough about bl nor anime nor boygroups so at the end of the day its just guys hanging out XD hm i should just tag my other vocaloid stuff something else too considering its an elaborated world now, with these guys in it, but... that... really is for another day...
wait forgot to say also making len the leader is idk vocaloid meta funny or sth since hes the most popular but here hes just a wee child not even allowed to getting involved much (to be fair its cause most of the involvement are either freakish or sexual. or both) hes already more than involved in the irl success go away little boy. but Boom! funny ass kid leading army of 6 gay ass men (one of them isnt even a man. but only when its convenient) (sometimes there are 7 of them)
also: everyone learn vietnamese to understand how funny their viet names are rn
SORRY I KEEP EDITING. but they also have a playlist... just for funsies. some of them are serious canon lore related the rest are probably all shitposts

hello claire, love your blog! i want to ask you a question about vietnamese fandom of thai pop culture, is it very big or just dedicated? i did notice that i often can find something translated into vietnamese (especially if we are talking about tpop interviews) while i can't find eng subs for it, and i started noticing it even more after a couple of weeks ago you pointed out another vietnamese blogger who has more access to obscure thai BLs than non-vietnamese bloggers. i am curious now, what's up with that? thank you in advance!
hiiiii \( ̄︶ ̄*\))
i loveeee getting questions about thai pop culture and vietnamese fandom. for the short answer, i would say that it's both a combination of dedicated fandom and a sizable fandom. but please bare with me in my lengthy elaboration of this phenomenon...
i think the first form of 'thai pop culture' that was popularised and successfully exported to viet nam was thai lakorns. in a similar vein to older makjang korean dramas, thai lakorns had very soap opera and dramatic plots that were intriguing to viewers (mostly older grandmas who were at home). it was as if at a certain point, when vietnamese tv channels were running out of kdramas to buy the airing rights to, they looked to their neighboring countries dramas (notably, vietnamese networks were also buying rights to filipino, indian, spanish telenovelas so it wasn't just thai lakorns that they were outsourcing).
and so this was like around early 2010s, which also coincided with the emergence of thai bl series. even though i have absolutely no statistics to back this argument up, i would say that the familiarity that a portion of vietnamese audience had with thai lakorns, thai television, thai language also made it easy for them to get into thai bl series. with a number of thai-vietnamese lakorn fansubbers who were already subbing for thai series, they also took on the fansubbing for thai bl series, since they knew there was a niche but large audience who wanted to watch those series.
that being said, i wanted to make a distinction here because i wouldn't say that the vietnamese lakorn audience are the same audience who watch thai bls or they are the same fujoshi fandom who consume all things queer love/boys' love/girls' love related. but there is definitely a huge overlap between the fujoshis/sao y audience and the lakorn audience, which ended up as a very niche yet dedicated audience -> which was the biggest motivation for thai subbers to take on the subbing for thai bl series and anything related for certain thai actors who had been in bl series which are often lakorns that they've done before.
and i think you're referring to this post of mine about me finding out that @nonkul is a fellow vietnamese which allow us to have more access to "obscure lakorns". rather than this having to do with thai fansubbers for bl series/bl series related content/"bl actors" content, i think there's just more of vietnamese networks which are committed to outsourcing thai lakorns to air them (especially ones with big lakorn names attached to it like mai davika, baifern pimchanok, james jirayu, yaya urassaya, tor thanapob, film thanapat, esther supreeleela...). there are many local vietnamese networks who provide their own streaming services like tv360, fptplay... so they would often go to these film/tv series festivals to "shop" for thai series, allowing them to provide them exclusively in viet nam on both tv or their streaming site.
but to go back to the main subject of your question which is thai pop culture/tpop interviews, i would say that it's very much the result of 2-3 dedicated fansubbers with an equally dedicated audience who are willing to engage/interact with the content put out by the fansubbers. i've also come across a number of former kpop fans converted into tpop fandoms, so i could also see where the dedication-ness is coming from in trying to sub actor-related content.
but that also means that not very actors/ships will get dedicated fansubbers though. i think it mostly depends on how lucky a ship/an actor is to have a long time lakorn/thai series watcher/subber take an interest in them and they'll start basically subbing everything related to a series/ship/actor/group basically. it really does help that a majority of thai lakorn/series watchers have been watching thai series for so long, they're more likely to pick up the language along the way -> it's easier for you to see vietnamese translations for these kinds of content from thai actors/singers.
i know there are a lot of assumptions and generalised statements in my answer and it may not be the case for all the vietnamese fansubbers out there so please just take this with a grain of salt as it's mostly my perspective, after talking to a few fansubbers here and there. ƪ(˘⌣˘)ʃ
but i was really happy to get this question in my inbox though. i'm always over the moon to be sharing perspective of a vietnamese lakorn/thai series/tpop enthusiast.

Story ideas from my backlog that will never be written 😭 #5
Rebirth of the illegitimate eldest brother: f**k my father, I’ll raise my siblings properly!
Summary:
Lê Anh Quân ‘Quin’ was the eldest, and illegitimate son of the wealthy Lê family.
After he was “rediscovered” at one of City M’s state care facilities, Quin was taken back to the family. It was as though Quin’s IQ went offline. With his father’s ‘encouragement’, Quin fought with his half-siblings for inheritance and lost.
At this worst time of his life, his old childhood rival Li ZhengYu pulled him out and helped him up.
Things were finally going well, but then Quin and Li ZhengYu were reborn together back when they were aged 15...And on the very day Quin was going to be picked up by his scum so-called-father!
With this second chance...F**k his father! Quin will raise his siblings properly!
Would contain if it existed:
Double rebirth
Parents trying to do very scummy things, love triangles, cheating etc etc
The MC raising his young siblings, and the siblings banding together to fight the parents
Notes:
The double rebirth was inspired by Reborn with an Old Enemy on the Day of our Marriage; the concept of this story was inspired by all those family drama BL where the children fight against each other for inheritance and such. I wanted to see them band together and oust the person/people who were encouraging them to fight each other! Also, I wanted a Viet main character...
I wrote one complete chapter and some parts of later chapters. I think the problem was that I had a lot of inspiration, but there wasn't a concrete plot. I had notes, potential scenes, and vibes I wanted to portray, but no clear path.
Hence, this idea was shelved 😅

Kommentar #FCNREG: Historische Torflut
1. FC Nürnberg 8:3 Jahn Regensburg
⚽️ 1:0 Tzimas (17.) ⚽️ 2:0 Emreli (23.) ⚽️ 2:1 Hottmann (36., Kother) 🥅 2:2 Viet (Handelfmeter, 42.) ⚽️ 3:2 Justvan (45+1., Danilo Soares) ⚽️ 3:3 Pröger (49., Viet) ⚽️ 4:3 Justvan (59., Linksschuss) 🥅 5:3 Justvan (Foulelfmeter, 74., Yilmaz) ⚽️ 6:3 Schleimer (80., Justvan) ⚽️ 7:3 Castrop (83.)
Aufstellung FCN: Reichert – Jeltsch, Knoche, Karafiát – Villadsen (84. Hofmann), Jander, Castrop (84. Flick), Danilo Soares (46. Yilmaz), Justvan – Tzimas (69. Schleimer), Emreli (69. Goller) Letzte 10 Pflichtspiele: S–🏆S–U–N–S–N–N–S–S–S (BL-Saison: 5 S, 1 U, 4 N) Tabellenplatz: 8 ↑9 (16 Punkte, +4 Tore) Relegationsabstände: ↑ –3, ↓ +8 Nächstes Spiel: DFB-Pokal, Mittwoch, 30.10., 20:45 Uhr, gg.

The Strength of a High and Noble Hill (Outlander)
Chapter 39: War Wins Land, Peace Wins People
Masterlist
The reason – well, one of the reasons – that Brian went into journalism was that he wanted to investigate, to tell the truth of what's happening.
The Vietnam War was a catalyst. Before the United States' full-scale involvement began, Brian hardly noticed it as it was a war that still felt very far away. But by 1964, it all changed. The draft was developed to usher young American soldiers into combat to protect America and its allies from the communist Viet Cong.
The Vietnam War was unlike any war before, it was being televised and that led to Brian being glued to every development, how it was being reported, fascinated. When he was asked by his parents what he was going to do after high school, he knew what he wanted to do. The war being televised meant that the first time, the American people could see the horror of war from thousands of miles away. In colour, they witnessed firsthand accounts of the violence and devastation caused by the war.
The question that kept on swimming in Brian's mind was why are they fighting in a war that wasn't theirs to begin with.
It wasn't long before he heard of people's outrage and disapproval of the United States' involvement in the Vietnam War.
——
Brian groans as he stares down at his latest assignment. Maybe going out until 5 in the morning was not such a great idea with the assignment due in just a few days.
1964
There was a bar, Sporters, where Brian's eyes were opened for the first time, to see people like him being free. He meets Bill Conrad who works there, who tells Brian of his story in the army, in Germany, that he didn't know there was a community until he met Bob White who gave him the job.
In a way, college had become a sort of liberation for Brian. He could explore more than he could before, and work out what he now knows to be his bisexuality. He was no longer at home, no longer under his parents' watchful gaze though society wouldn't let him forget.
Bill gives Brian advice, advice on how to survive the police raids that happen every couple of months. Brian learnt to have his ID on him and to not react when they called them names.
He also meets Tommy Martin and Kenneth Jackson. Soon, they're joined by Joyce Harris and Ruth Walker who they meet in the Midtown. He gets along well with his friends, they're like him, outsiders, not accepted by society.
They also bond over their anti-Vietnam war sentiments. Questioning why America is bothering with a war that has nothing to do with them. It becomes a frequent thing, meeting up to discuss it then, that December, Tommy hears word that there's going to be nationwide protests against the Vietnam War in Boston, New York, San Francisco, Philadelphia and many more.
He knows his Dad will disapprove but he doesn't care because he feels like he's actually trying to make a difference, fighting for a cause.
——
Of course, it was all going to escalate.
November 1965
Brian has secured a college deferment to stop him being drafted but he knows his deferment won't protect him forever. These days, more and more men are being drafted to fight in a war that has nothing to do with them, pointless dying and for what? To stop the supposed great evil of communism?
In August, President Johnson signs a law making it a federal crime to destroy or mutilate draft cards. On October 15th, David Miller publicly burns his draft card, becoming the first person to be prosecuted under that law.
That doesn't stop it, if anything, David Miller becomes a symbol of the movement against the war. A movement Brian is a part of. No more passive non-compliance with the National Service Scheme, now it is time to actively demonstrate their distaste for the actions of their government.
Brian feels the heat of the flames flicker across his cheeks as he watches the paper of the draft cards begin to turn black and scrunch up until they're just ashes settling into the fire or blowing away in the wind.
Brian thinks of his friend, Tommy, who had sought to evade the draft by enlisting in military forces that were unlikely to see combat in Vietnam, such as the Coast Guard, like so many others but that didn't save him.
After a while (a couple of hours maybe?), the door is opened.
Sudden yelling penetrates through the smoke in his mind as well as the actual smoke around them. Brian quickly realises the police have arrived. Brian is grabbed and soon finds himself being shoved into a locked room with multiple others, some he recognises as his friends.
"Hey, Randall!" A guard yells, gaining his attention.
The guard grabs his arm and yanks him up. Brian has no choice but to follow him. He's pulled along corridors until they reach another room. The door is open and Brian is led in to see—
"Dad?"
Dad clears his throat awkwardly, nodding to the guard who releases Brian's arm and leaves the room.
"Brian." He says it so surely but Brian can see how his hands fidget where they rest at his sides.
"What's going on?" Brian questions.
"It's best you come home for a short while." Dad tells him. It's an order more than a suggestion.
Oh.
"They're letting me go?"
"Yes."
"What did you do?"
"People respect me, Brian. You're lucky they're willing to overlook the federal crime youcommitted." The accusation is heavy in his voice.
Brian hates how his Dad is making him feel like he did something wrong but he knows it's best not to say anything so he instead nods, clenching his jaw in frustration.
"Why did you do this?" Dad questions. "This isn't like you."
"You're wrong, this is me." Brian retorts, frustrated. "And you know it."
"Don't tell your mother or Ellen," Dad says as they pull up outside the house.
Sorry, I'm not like you.
Brian nods.
"And you're not taking part in these sorts of activities again."
Brian starts at that. "But—"
Brian hates being at home, he's trying to be on his best behaviour while at home. That doesn't stop Brian from being faced with pointed comments and questions by his Dad whenever he returns from being out of the house. Mama frowns at Dad, deciding he is at fault for whatever is going on here even though she doesn't know what's going on. He wants to go back to college as soon as possible.
"I mean it, Brian." Dad clamps down. "You've gotten away with a warning this time, doesn't mean it'll happen again."
Maybe that's why Brian felt such freedom when going to another protest in March the next year, only a couple of months after Dad's death. However, despite his friends' insistence, he doesn't go back to college, not when Mama and Ellen are struggling after Dad's death (in different ways) and he can't leave them.
——
Brian watches Roger and Ellen laugh as they dance on the quay before he takes his gaze off them and looks down at the newspaper in his hands. Roger had taken them to Loch Duntelchaig. Brian had let them run ahead knowing that neither would mind.
April 1968
In the back of Roger's car had been today's newspaper, which the Oxford Professor had thrown into the back of the car once they were all buckled in and driven off.
The headline reads: WESTMORELAND REQUESTS 206,000 MORE MEN, STIRRING DEBATE IN ADMINISTRATION: Enemy Hammers 7 Sites On the Outskirts of Saigon
The report seems to make it clear that America and its allies can't win the war. He hopes this is it, the catalyst for the rest of the country to turn against the war because it won't survive without national support.
Brian remembers that only in February did Walter Cronkite (known as "the most trusted man in America") say on CBS Evening News that the war was "mired in stalemate".
Maybe now, this increasingly sceptical and pessimistic tone of reporting may begin to reflect similar feelings among the American public. There are too many casualties on the American side, it keeps building up. People can't continue supporting a war that's just killing them all off for no reason.
What most undermined support for the war was simply the level of American casualties: the greater the increase in casualties, the lower the level of public support for the war.
Brian wishes he was back in the States, back at work to be a part of it all, reporting on this rather than follow his sister and his new friend gallivant across Inverness.

A/N: The chapter title was found here: https://peacequilt.wordpress.com/tag/strive-for-peace/
Sporters bar was at 228 Cambridge Street, Boston. It opened in 1939 and became an "official" gay bar in 1957. It served as an integral gathering space for the burgeoning gay community in the city. The building featured an unmarked façade without windows—ideal for protecting the identity of its patrons. Sporters faced frequent police raids, as did many queer establishments. The police would ask for ID. If you didn't have ID, they'd arrest you and put your name in the paper. For many men, this meant being fired from their jobs and even evicted from their homes. Bob White and Bill Conrad were real people who worked there. It closed its doors in 1995.
Please leave comments on how you're enjoying this story and what you think.

It's safe to say they know each other beforehand since Gen 3 (minus Tle) has been around since 2022. They only got officially introduced on DMD Line Up 2023 in Dec 2022. After that, Gen 3 went to some events, practiced, and performed together in the DMD Land concert (edit: DMD Land 2 in 2024 before DMD Friendship 1). The most popular ship before DMD Friendship was ThomasNamping actually XD I don't know how close ThomasKong was at that time but KengNamping was casual co-workers coded™ (although people did find some crumbs, but still they barely interacted: How to #เก่งน้ำปิง — A Journey of #KengNamping's cookie crumble to established khanom shop).
(Sorry OP this got too long so I figured I should write a whole post instead of just replying to your post.)
Some long tangential thoughts about the show:
I think DMD Friendship 1, despite its fanservice-y nature and scripted reality dating show format, was created as a way to test some of the pairs' chemistry and to introduce the new Gen properly to Gen 1, Gen 2 fans (attract some new Y fans too, of course). People always say the show is 100% scripted, but I personally think it's just partially scripted due to (spoiler alert?) the temporary "throuple" trio of Tle-Latte-Firstone after the show and the awkwardness of KengNamping at first.
I genuinely believe DMD let the boys choose who they want to partner with and some of them just happened to have someone in mind already while others needed more 1-on-1 bonding time to know. Tle said he met Firstone when Naughty Babe was filming and he only got introduced in the show later, while Latte and Firstone were already paired for the Love Upon A Time pilot before. It should be an easy answer for DMD business (doing it GMMTV style - keeping the pairing to avoid re-casting) and yet, it took them a few months after DMD Friendship 1 ended to settle as TleFirstone (speculative but Kim appeared around that time and attended Latte's graduation with them too 👀).
I have so many thoughts on these boys on the show, not with shipping, but rather with their dynamics, their relationships with each other in this entirely new format, the aftermath pairings, the DMD business-making decisions, and how fans reacted in real time and after. I was not fully in the fandom during that time but reading back some posts about the show in the Vietnamese fans community, some fans behaved like dating reality fans LOL. While the Thai fans seem peaceful and harmonious for Gen 3, some Viet fans still hold grudges over Keng for choosing someone else instead of Namping (twice XD) even though the show told them to get to know each other + hating on Firstone for seemingly "abandoning" Latte for Tle (saying he was a gold digger since Tle was speculated to come from a wealthy and political background 🙄) even though they both shared a strong passion for music. All those things were presented in the show yet fans chose to build their own narratives. And it's because of the show's dating reality format + Thai BL fixed pairings culture. It's fascinating!
I also think DMD Friendship 2 was much more scripted cuz they got the experience from season 1 + the new cast was more engaging and good at playing it up for reality shows. But I have only watched Ep 1 of season 2 so who knows...
Since the conversation has already been started--and I don't pay a lot of attention to actors social media and all that--did Thomas and Kong already know each other before the reality show? Or know of each other? It seems like some of them already knew each other before going on the show. If they already knew each other, I guess the show was an excuse to get closer? I've only just finished the first episode.
Also, this is just like a dating show. Such a weird concept for me, haha.
I know they knew each other to the extent that they had each other on social media and interacted a fair amount. I'm not sure how close they actually were though beforehand.
Kong mentions in the first episode that he knew Net previously.
I've also only watched the first episode. (I'm super slow at watching things)
But the concept for the show is so golden to me. It LITERALLY is a matchmaking show. They compete to have "special friendship time."
Thai bl is always at the cutting edge in new and interesting innovations of situationships. I'm here for it.
So funny though, how like. They had to do an entire TV show instead of just talking to each other.
#thomaskong#kengnamping#dmd friendship the reality#domundi#tlefirstone#it's good to get these thoughts out somewhere somehow cuz i don't have friends that are inter dmd fans#that also watched dmd friendship :/#so i resurrected this old J-V tumblr of mine to ramble#i'm a relatively new fans so maybe i missed something tho

Okay! Not สาธุ related! But...
Wandee fucking Goodday, holy shit!
Yo, my best friend is fucking obsessed with this!!! I'm not a romance fan (which BL falls under), but that one time I had a sleepover with her, she could not function at all on that Saturday and just waited for the latest episode to drop. And then forced me to watch it with her! Aahhaha! Good times.
But her obsession didn't just stop there. She flew all the way to Bangkok last-last Friday just to watch the final episode with the cast in a theater and get this photoshoot thing with the main leads. She stayed there only for one night and came back to Malaysia the next day! It was insane! And to make it even more insane—it was during that IT outage too, so her flight was also grounded for hours!!!
That bitch's dedication to Wandee is whack, ahahhaha!
I do have a bit of fondness for people who like Wandee, even though I personally don't know what it's about beyond "doctor, gay love, a lot of purple lights in someone's bedroom." I remember the show being really casual and cheerful, which makes it a wonderful comfort show, I think!
----
Also, it's always fun to find a random Southeast Asian on Tumblr. I've got two Singaporean friends here now, so I wouldn't say no to a Vietnamese friend!
I'm Malaysian myself!
Oooh another southeast asian tumblr-ian \( ̄︶ ̄*\))
I wish I could have attended that event too. Unfortunately, I'm currently in Australia for my master degree so I can't go events in Thailand. I totally would have if I were in Viet Nam though (I can totally understand how your friend feels though since I also attended a final EP screening in November last year for another Thai BL series that I was insane obsessed crazy about and it was such a fun experience).
Also not สาธุ-related and you might have already watched this but if you haven't yet, I totally recommend Bad Genius (2017) (available on Netflix Malaysia) which also stars James Teeradon (Win in สาธุ) where he also takes part in a money making heist scheme (the main character name is Lyn!!!!!). I think my appreciation for สาธุ is partially fuelled by the nostalgia I felt when watching สาธุ while being reminded of this film. It was the first Thai film I ever watched and also the reason I've been following James work until today, I'm so glad to see his growth as an actor.

THE MOST PEACEFUL PLACE IS MY PLACE | s02e04
Full Episode List
The third wheel appears. Oh he is a homewrecker, look at that smirk, you snake in the grass. I really like how Tung has a relationship with Phucs younger brother Son, who he treats like family and confides in him things he can’t tell his real brother and vice versa with Phuc and Thanh, its a interesting dynamic of the four. Also Vu, pretty sure most of your language skills have come from watching p0rn. XD

Yes!! It is called goblin! I have some more rec!
Netflix:
(Korean)Doctors: ML used to be FML high scholl teacher but rn he is her colleague (maybe more like a senior doctor) and persuing her, not too much into medical. I like FML character, she is independent and cool. Good soundtrack also! (Especially ‘it’s love’ and ‘ no way’)
(Korean) The king eternal monarch: WATCH IT FOR LEE MIN HO. He is sup hot here~like rlly rlly hot, cant write much cos i’ll end up spoiling. Cool plot concept. FML is the same with goblin FML, so cutee. Many unexpected events. Despite having FML i ship ML and his boduguard😂, they are so cute ur honor
Non-netflix
(Japanese BL series) what did you eat yesterday?: about a middle age couple, a lot of cooking, not cheesy or fluffy but rather kinda wholesome, i was surprise at some point (which remind me not to judge the book by its cover😂 if you watch it u’ll know what i means)
(Indian BL movie) Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan: strict parent caught Their son kissing men(ML) then try to turn him straight, one method is arrange marriage. It is beautiful to see MC&ML fight for their relationship. Not cheesy but you can feel their love. More like Slice of life, comedy, happy ending.
Btw, there are many BL novel in novel updates!!!
omg tysm for these recs! i’m noting down everything frantically because these are life-savers.
#(i learnt of novel updates recently as i got v into reading manhwas)#bc id often read too fast and end up needing to read raw chapters on newtoki#so i needed to to have their OG names to search lol#for BL novels esp the ones from China#id often read fan translated ones on wattpad but in Vietnamese#bc there are so many Viet editors/translators out there that our fanbase in VN never have a shortage of novels to read#it is also a challenge to find novels that suit my taste#bc im v picky in terms of writing and genres#probably bc im so old lol#i feel like i only have read 2 good ones since 2018#one is Zhen Hun#the other is The General doesn't want to (sleep with the King)?#idk its English name so thats a v bad direct translation from me#but its such a good one too bc#the general is reborn and learns that his previous life he lived for the king and his feelings werent reciprocrated#so he was like ok lets avoid dying by staying farrr away from the king#in the end he ends up with (spoilers) the king's uncle whos super sweet/smart/considerate/excellent EQ/really a romantic at heart#i also love their dynamic so much#this has become an essay length tags party#imma stop now#Anonymous#asks#replies

For an example of why you don’t want to use a wired mic in an intimate scene, here’s some BTS footage from Nation’s Brother, which being Vietnamese of course did not use a boom. Tuan Viet’s character is supposed to be cuddling with his hand under Ba Vinh’s shirt, but then they have to redo the take because unsurprisingly he exposes Ba Vinh’s mic as soon as he starts moving. Starts at around 0:56. And of course Mr. Cinderella just straight up left a shot in the bathroom scene of shirtless Ba Vinh with a mic taped to his chest.

Since you mentioned bad sound a few times already, it made me wonder, what exactly would be an example of good sound in your register? And what is an example of a really bad one? From what little Thai stuff I've watched (Bad Buddy, He's coming to you, The Gifted) they didn't make my ears bleed, but I'm also somewhat new and fledging to watching any kind of live-action series so maybe I just don't have any benchmark set up enough to expect any better? (Where does JP rank in comparison? Like for example with Utsukushii Kare or Kieta Hatsukoi?)
Oh GMMTV is good (all the ones you mentioned are from them). They use a boom most of the time. But they are a large production company... for Thailand.
When we (the royal and the collective) are complaining about sound in Thai BL it's usually the pulps (or Vietnamese or Pinoy stuff). I think I actually dropped a whole show recently because the sound was so bad. (I can't remember which one though, Restart(ed) maybe?)
So you could check out, erm let me think, looks like you may only have YouTube... How about Evening Cafe? (It's not good, but it's short and its a classic pulp with all the problems they have including sound and last I checked it was on YT).
Here's an example of an interesting use of wired mics in elevated pulp You're My Sky (it's actually better than most on production values):
I was recently rewatching SaenAii's sex scene. (As ya do. Excuse? I was looking for the elevator scene to screen cap, and then just kept watching.) And they have them micced up. (AKA wired for sound)
So in Hollywood wiring an intimacy scene would be VERY odd, since bedroom scenes are the easiest and most important to use the boom on: the actors are in one low position, close together, so all that is required is a steady grip in a confined space. You really don't want to wire them, since there will be clothing coming off, lots of rustling around, not to mention skin smacking and lip noises etc...
If you watch this scene in YMS you can hear the actors’ breathing as they talk beforehand. And I kinda liked it. Oddly. It's very intimate and sexy. (In the way I really love it when Kpop drops us a wet recording.) So I guess sometimes it occasionally works for me.

I should set time aside soon to get into Viet BL if only because I think it’d be kind of funny to see two dudes address each other as anh/em and they’re not dating only to date after and have no change in how they address each other.
