Tell me about The Passage Back... tell me about writing Zevran, & your warden, and your undisclosed dragon age one feelings. if you want a more specific thing, the scene where he's dragged up in front of Surana is a++++ tell me more

That particular scene was going to be its own story which–surprise!–never went anywhere, and I threw it in as a flashback because I thought it was too entertaining to languish in my bottomless WIP folder, which is why it sticks out in the middle of the fic like a sore thumb. The whole fic is pretty winding and has 0% plot to speak of, so I didn’t think it would be remarked upon. This ran long, so here’s a cut.

I am not rising to your vile “”””dragon age one”””” bait, but (o peanut gallery, Rachel has never played a vidjer game in her life, let alone aged a dragon) the gr8 thing about ORIGINS is that the player character is an almost completely blank slate. you can do just about anything. 

Zevran is a fun character for me to write because he’s a disaster who jokes his way through his problems, which is hashtag relatable. I actually have a ton of Zevran POV fic sitting on my hard drive, none of which I managed to assemble a coherent plot from, but damn if there weren’t good lines in there. 

As for Zevran and that Warden… man. I try hard not to attach myself to any of my PCs, and I don’t talk about them. I have no lingering fondness for any of them, really–maybe one or two of them–and y’all don’t need to know that much about me. I make myself come up with a new Inquisitor(/Hawke/Warden to mention in the background) for just about every fic I write, even though I joke that they’re all basically the same character, but with the “asshole” and “crude speech” knobs cranked a little to the left or the right. 

But damn if I didn’t play the shit out of that particular Surana and romance the shit out of Zevran, too!!!!! Started out romancing Leliana, tripped & fell on that d. I very much have a lingering fondness, which is why I will never write about her again. If it had been a larger fest, with more eyes on me, I wouldn’t have written about her at all, but this was my excuse to get some closure, which is why I am so OTT fond of this fic.
